I don't know how close they stayed to the book at this point, but it's so obvious that Lestat is not in a good state and is being forced into this charade of a trial, and that he doesn't want any harm to come, as much to Claudia as Louis.

And the worst thing is that I still see people trying to deny that there is surely another version to this mess, as many had already done with the scene of the fight in season 1 between Lestat & Louis. Today we know that yes, Louis' memories are not reliable, and frankly, who trusts Armand ?!

I don't mind that we don't like Lestat, but a little objectivity here. Many try to paint him as the worst of the lot when he is very far from being that.

At this stage, I am just waiting for Lestat's entire version of the events (notably the bullshit told by Armand), and if this point remains faithful to the books, know that Lestat's version has already been reported by the author as the more objective of events.
