notes: ever since that beautiful, lifechanging, showstopping, incredible, amazing strange aeons video, i’ve been trying to channel back my 16 year old pretentious and bookworm self. you know, the one that couldn’t wait to go to the library to fish up some books, buy more at the second hand tent every saturday at the market, and just spend her afternoons learning about artists, composers, history facts, etc.

i wanted to go back to the me who cried reading about achilles and patroclo, sending long voice notes to my friend about dalí and lorca, virgina and vita, and listen to the voice notes my friend would send back about modigliani, about fucking rodin and his bullshit. 

somehow, i let myself stray away from such amazing feelings and i wanted to go back, hence why im rather going to call this the 100 first days of da challange. because nothing gives me such a rush better than this lifestyles. where i thought i was lone, it appears there’s community and, quite frankly, i’m in love with it.

gosh, okay i’m ranting, i won’t do that here (that’s reserved for my journal) but again, i hope you do this alongside with all of us, do it for as long as you want to like i’m doing it, turn this into a lifestyle if it suits you!

1. What does their bedroom look like?

The 6th Expeditionary Brigade is permanently stationed at Arca Barracks on Coruscant. As a lieutenant Leya gets a small suite of private quarters there consisting of a single room containing a bunk, a footlocker, and a desk. The officers get communal ‘freshers. She doesn’t have much in the way of personal belongings aside from ten billion bobby pins and makeup that she keeps in her desk. It’s all very neat and spare. After the war she starts to amass more personal stuff, but it’s still highly organized and she’s always ready to take off at a moment’s notice.

6. Eating habits and sample daily menu

Ration packs, ration packs, and ration packs, maybe with a light side of ration packs if she’s feeling peckish. 

Leya eats to keep her body running smoothly or occasionally as a social activity, but she isn’t particularly fond of food or picky about her options, so she usually defaults to whatever’s in the mess that day.

12. Favorite book genre?

Leya doesn’t spend a lot of time reading, but when she has time she prefers clever mystery novels or some kind of trippy pretentious-intellectual fantasy (what even is fantasy in the Star Wars universe though). She likes intrigue and the satisfaction of a good puzzle more than anything.

35. What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time?

Anything leisurely. She’ll go out to eat or drink with the other officers if they’re stationed somewhere with a nightlife, and she’ll get involved in games of get’shuk or meshgeroya, because she sees the value of social activities, especially eating and sports, as tools to build trust and camraderie. But any more self-centered lesiure activity she tends to avoid. She’d rather be training, working out, or resting because she considers it more important to be in good form as a soldier and set a good example to her men than to be happy/relaxed, but if she were ever in a situation where those pressures were completely removed she would relish the luxury of not doing anything useful or productive.

Apple Leisure Group Will Likely Continue Growth After Sale

Skift Take: It's one thing for a private equity group to own many fragmented hotel and travel assets. It's another to own a distribution platform to sell those products. Apple Leisure Group's new owners have to feel good about leveraging the company's scale and using its resources to help increase the viability of its existing assets.

Considering the size of its holdings and impact on the North American travel marketplace, the sale of Apple Leisure Group to private equity giant KKR and its travel-centric affiliate KSL has gone relatively under the radar since it was announced last month.

Apple Leisure Group, which was initially given an equity infusion by Bain Capital in 2012 to ostensibly finance its growth, underwent many changes following the acquisition that were fueled by the money it received.

Most notably, it bought CheapCaribbean.com to sell its resort products to consumers and vacation packager Travel Impressions to amplify its ability to sell vacations through travel agents. The company sells the most all-inclusive vacations in North America, along with a variety of other vacation products and hotel management services.

Apple Leisure Group now owns resort brands, a tour operator, an online travel agency, a vacation packager for agents, and a destination marketing group. This vertical integration helped increase the wholesaler’s value for its inevitable sale to KKR and KSL.

The company also swapped in a whole new executive staff following Bain Capital’s investment, promoting AMResorts founder Alex Zozaya to CEO.

“The doubling up of our distribution not only allowed us to be more successful on the resort side with the openings of new in hotels, in addition to the ones that had just opened in 2013 and 2014, but also made us a stronger management company on the hotel side resulting in the signing of more contracts and stronger pipelines,” Zozaya told Skift in late 2014.

In early 2015, Apple Vacations president Jeff Mullen took over Apple Leisure Group’s chief operating officer position and Travel Impressions president Tim Mullen moved over to Apple Vacations.

Apple Lesiure Group’s new owner KSL acquired Outrigger Hotels & Resorts in November, adding to its portfolio of upscale hotel properties. It also owns or has an investment in more than a dozen other resorts in addition to a wellness brand and country club operator. Combined with Apple Leisure Group’s luxury all-inclusive product, particularly its AMResorts brand which stands at about 60 properties heading into 2017, KSL now owns a particularly strong luxury portfolio.

Apple Leisure Group can help manage KSL’s hotels, sell them to consumers, and package them for travel sellers, in addition to offering vacation activities like tours from Apple Vacations while in destination. Looking down the road, KSL can also help finance further acquisitions for the travel giant.

The combination of these assets will almost certainly make a profitable sale for its private equity stakeholders in a few years.
