the whole "kinosaki is actually a girl twist" thing has been stuck in my head this week. on today's rant: i understand consuming a midia for entertainment but can you even be entertained if said midia doesnt align with your taste and/or believes ? (prefacing this ill be talking in a general level and am not claiming this is every "kinosaki is a girl" believer, i just fell deep in the pit)

bc like its a thing people tend to consume what they already established they agree with and like. so i really dont understand why someone who: doesnt care for queer living and visibility ; believes in the "blood is thicker than water", "family above everything else" and "you should always forgive and respect family despite anything" ; doesnt care about breaking cycles of trauma and abuse ; doesnt care about dismantling abusive systems of power ; doesnt like progressiveness in general:– can truly enjoy marriagetoxin, bc the manga does all that like it follows these themes. gero chose to take his lesbian sister's burden of forming a family by the abusive clan's demands, despite not thinking he can even have that he's actively looking to form a healthy and loving family of his own on his own terms – with some clan members already being against him getting married –, he's accompanied by an openly queer gnc crossdresser guy (who he has romantic tension with) on his quest, and he's been dealing with the other clans since the beginning even helped on the falling of one of them, and this is just the beginning just this past week we reached the 100th chapter. and most of the themes were established within the first 10 chapters, if someone doesnt like any of that they cant even say they werent warned they knew what they were going into. knowing all that and still reading when you dont agree with the core of the story, is it really worth it ? is it even entertaining ? even if the visual style is appealing is it worth it to just visually enjoy it when you cant even relate with the story overall ?

So, I decided to rewatch Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated, it's been 3 years since the last time I watched it, by now I am midway season 1, it has been a nice experience, I really appreciate the writers effort for trying to make a plot focused Scooby Doo show while keeping all the tropes the franchise is known for, and I keep wondering why someone at Warner Bros. haven't tried to give it a try on it again (Unless you count HBO'S Velma, but let's not talk about this, we all know how bad this show is).

But one thing that keeps coming back everytime I watch an episode of the series, is how in order for the series to work, the gang needs to be either out of character or very one note. Their dynamic is really weird because you have these two opposing forces on the series where in one hand they want us to root for their friendship and for them to stay together but at the same time when they are together they are this close 🤏 to split up and never see each other's faces again.

I kept remembering the 2002 live action movie where the gang has a similar dynamic, but there they at least have a reason for why they acted like that, they've been together for too long and can't stand each other anymore because every monster they find the same thing keeps happening, that's why they break up and keep acting completly rude and apathetic towards to each other. Here though, there really isn't a reason why, they know each other for a while, have solved some misteries by the time the show begins, but overall, they are just really toxic to each other, the prime example being the way they write Velma and Shaggy's relationship, I know that Tony Cervone has stated that this was because Velma is lesbian in the series, going through a compulsive heterosexual relationship but this is not enough to explain way her relationship with Shaggy is so messed up, with her trying to change how he talks, how he dresses, what he eats and the whole rivalry they pull out of nowhere between her and Scooby, I'm all for Velma being lesbian (Even tho I'm more of the Bi Velma team) but this really isn't the way to do it.

I stil like the show, but we all need to adress criticism when criticism is needed, specially when the show is often regarded as the best piece of midia in the franchise, and that could be a problem for new interpretations of the characters that have the same issues as the ones from SDMI.

Something interresting I've had noticed about some ships:

1°-Fans get crazy about their subtext.

2°-Fans "force" them to be canon.

3°-They become canon.

4°-Now that they're canon, fans forgets them. (mainly when they're not gay items).

So, this is basically what happens to 80% to 90% of the anime, movies, series, and games's straight (sometimes gay/lesbians) canon couples, like, if they take too long to be together, people forgets them, if they start dating in the middle of the story, and the story didn't end up with any family's drama, people forgets their existence too. It's just facts guys!

Its seems like, when their "otp" gets canon, they haven't anymore reasons to be rooting for it, they kick off feeling so empty, that even fics gets boring, bc they already have a concrete happy ending, so "why do you gonna waste your time imaginating another love story if they already have one?".

It's bc of this shitty situation that shippers prefers secondary couples, unlike the main destined couple.

Cause they came out of nowhere, and they don't have "romance rules" to obbey, they can follow whatever path they want to, and surprise us!

It's just my opinion, I guess this happens more in shoujo and even in shounen couples, there are series and other midia's items that are the same trouble situation at the fandom.

However, I'm just waiting your opinions about it.

Happy Lesbian Visibility Week !!! In honour of this week, I want to do something to celebrate it by posting more fandom content here on tumblr...!

I'm thinking of doing a three paragraph fic or maybe a moodboard, which one would be better? I'm thinking of doing it for Assault Lily, World Dai Star, Avatar: The Last Airbender and maybe for Miraculous Ladybug... I could also try to recommend some yuri manga, even if I don't think I know too much.

I hope this year we get more lesbian art we can enjoy, be it from fans — like us — or from mainstream midia!!

First impression: She was the first Daedric Prince I had encountered when I played the game for the very first time. I thought she had a cool aesthetic and would imagine her and Azura kissing. (Yet it would take me another year before I realized my lesbian nature)

Favorite moment: Bending the rays of light that shine into oblivion to create her own realm is a certified Girlboss moment

Idea for a story: Perhaps something exploring her decision to follow Magnus to Aetherius and leave Mundus behind.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think she should be called a bitch or 'irrationally angry' when her male counterparts don't receive the same treatment.

Favorite relationship: Her relationship with her purified. She's said to hate free will, and I think you could spin some interesting narratives from that.

Favorite headcanon: I like my headcanons revolving around her existence prior to creation as favoured daughter of Magnus. Her rebellion and creation of Mehrunes Dagon

"The Henna Wars" review

I finished The Henna Wars and my god what an incredible book. I devoured this book, in one day I read 80% of it. It has such a pleasant rhythm, the writing is so addictive, it generates so much curiosity and makes you freak out so much that it's honestly very difficult to stop reading.

This book debates cultural appropriation in a way I've never seen before. Yes, you can use art, food etc made by non-white people, no, you can't take it as your own, want to go over someone whose thing you are using/reproducing/consuming be part of that person's culture and then act as if it were just fashion, as if diversity were something just for profit, as if it wasn't part of someone's experience.

Appreciate and even utilize art from other cultures made by people from those cultures, and when someone from that culture is saying that what you're doing (without even knowing what you're doing) is cultural appropriation and racism, shut up and listen. It's not about you.

Nishat suffered racism and homophobia in a hellish way. She saw other people using her culture to win a competition and profit /while/ they were racist and violent towards her at the same time that she had to deal with her own friends saying that her discomfort was victimism and childishness. It's no wonder that she had no desire to respond to the violence, because even her own friends saw her pain as nonsense or selfishness. No one cared what she had to say, or her feelings.

I am genuinely happy to have followed the development of these people, especially Nishat's parents. Her parents, whose story made Nishat muster the courage to come out to them, but who were ashamed of their own story and didn't want Nishat to be the shame of their family like they were to hers. However, they really sought to understand, they tried hard to change their limited mindset and support their daughter.

I understand their fear of also not wanting their daughter to suffer from gossip, rejection and other violence, because I've heard my own mother say that too, but after someone brought her out to the entire school, I believe this made them start to put Nishat's safety and happiness first. And it was actually really nice to read, it reminded me of how my mother reacted to me being a lesbian.

Her reaction was the same as Flávia's mother, in fact, but the way Nishat's parents went about studying the community out of love for their daughter reminded me of my mother. It was really cute to read them worrying about what Flávia would want to eat for dinner.

As for Flávia, her development is also very good. I didn't really like how oblivious she was to the racism and bullying that Nishat suffered, it made me very uncomfortable, mainly because her cousin is precisely the person who did all this to her the most, but I believe that she improved a lot like everyone else there, she recognized her mistakes and would be someone who would continue to improve after the end of the book.

I really liked how the author addressed xenophobia against Brazilians too. I don't know if you, foreign moots, have any idea, but, as Brazil is known as the country of Carnival, Football and Funk, foreigners (mainly Americans and Europeans) end up relating these things to mess and bitching, also adding to the fact that they see us as a people incapable of forming complex thoughts (there have literally been Europeans saying that either you are Brazilian or you are a thinking being), and those who suffer most from this are women.

Latina women in general already suffer from a lot of sexism, and speaking as an afab Brazilian, I know how sexualized Brazilian women are, seen as someone who would accept anything and treated like stupid, quarrelsome bitches.

Flávia is a black, bisexual and Brazilian woman, the stereotype gets even worse with people like her.

The author portrayed this very well, she perfectly showed how much Flávia feels out of place in Ireland and uncomfortable because she is fully aware that being Brazilian makes her a very big target of sexism there, while also showing that her dual nationality makes her also have some identity crisis.

The characters in this book will definitely remind you of at least one person you knew in real life, and I think it's impossible for you not to identify with anything there or not feel welcomed/represented.

as much as i enjoy “bl” and yes i do watch quite a lot of this type of show, sometimes it’s just very tiring having to conform with second-hand representation that isn’t truly made for me and my community because we are still heavily stigmatized as some kind of fetish for straight men or just a full slut for being with multiple genders. and then when we do get representation that’s more or less acceptable, it’s usually a bi girl - and please don’t take this as an offense but i really really wish i could see just one properly written lesbian character, for once. no excuses, no slut-shamming, no fetishization, no internalized homophobia, no behind closed doors kinda relationships... just let me see lesbian characters living their best lives, being happy and enjoying their partners. that’s literally all i’m asking for.

Favorite character: Esther and Sally. Don’t make me choose between them. I miss them so much, omg. I fell in love with Sally instanly, and to hear her developement was one of the best midia experiences I’ve ever had. And to see Esther grow in the story, to learn more about her and her complexity… I love my disaster lesbian.

Least Favorite character: Donovan, ew. Straight from a old cold-war movie. His nickname is “Wild Bill”, come on. What good can come from that.

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Esther x Bridget. (OMG, THEY WARM MY HEART). Mateo x Nikhil. (best jock x nerd pairing ever). June x Helen (Thanks, Julianna, for blessing my life with them). Penny x Chet. June x Quentin.

Character I find most attractive: Omg, so hard. Sally, I guess? Her nerdness is just so loveable. And I love her voice (Kristen, you’re amazing)

Character I would marry: Helen. Omg, I’d her  all the love she deserves (sorry, Anthony). Oh, to hear her sing in day to day life

Character I would be best friends with: SALLY, NO DOUBTS.

A random thought: I really wish we could’ve seen more of Petra and Carman together. The sadness that permeates their story is essential to the plot, and to Petra development, but I really loved Carmen and wanted to see more of her.

An unpopular opinion: I didn’t really like the fighting scenes. At one point or another, mainly in the last season, it all became to confusing for me and made me lose my energy to find out what was happening a little. 

My canon OTP: Esther x Bridget (i cRy)

Non-canon OTP: Helen x June. 

Most badass character: Esther, I suppose. She’s just so strong. The judgement episode, omg. And she’s constantly growing, fixing her mistakes, really feeling bad for the errors she comitted and working to change what she can… I love her. 

Pairing I am not a fan of: Chet x Anyone, pretty much. I really couldn’t picture him in a relationship with anyone. Maybe cause I’m not a big fan of him, even if I find him interesting.

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I don’t think anyone was “screwed up”, but I felt that Jack was kinda wasted, his friendship with Esther was so good… and then he just vanished and never really had much attention again.

Favourite friendship: So hard. Ars has so many amazing friendships, it’s incredible. I guess I’ll go with Sally and Athony’s ‘cause I love to suffer.
