Hag Moth

Phobetron pithecium

From the limacodidae family. They have a wingspan of 20-28 mm. They can be found in North America. Their larvae are known as Monkey Slug.

That was when Velvette felt it, a sudden weight accompanied by a static, prickling sensation at her neck, as if she was wearing an electrified collar… She turned to glare daggers at Vox, who glared back. His claws were tightly holding onto the end of a shimmering, cyan-colored chain that crackled with yellow electricity. Her eyes followed the chain, watching as it terminated at a collar that was, indeed, wrapped around her throat. “Fine. You own me. You have me collared like a fucking dog and you're holding onto my leash. Do whatever the fuck you want, Vox. I’m over it” Velvette snapped.

Two observations from the ongoing turmoil surrounding pro-Palestinian protests:

First, free speech is vitally important, will always come under attack, and must always be defended.

Second, it doesn't matter if someone "feels" threatened or in danger, it matters if they ARE in danger. If walking by a peaceful protest makes you feel threatened, that is something to discuss with your therapist, not the campus police. (This also applies to all those stupid Stand Your Ground laws which result in people getting shot for knocking on the wrong door because the homeowner was "afraid.")

Fear is an emotion that garners sympathy. So we get people describing how scared :( they are . . . when actually they're annoyed. Actually they're disgusted. Actually they're angry. It is embarrassing to behold, like a soccer player rolling around clutching their leg to buy time on the clock.

Fear can be real too, of course. In the early days of the internet I stumbled across a newsgroup for people with lepidopterophobia--the fear of butterflies. The members talked about how disgusting butterflies were and how their stomach clenched when they saw them fluttering around. It is reasonable to feel sympathy for people with a fear of butterflies. But it is not reasonable to dust the world with pesticides to get rid of something harmless.

I tend to start inktober full of excitement and ideas, but then quickly get overwhelmed by all the options.

So this year I decided to set a theme

All my illustrations will be of, themed after, or in some way related to invertebrates.

Although that still leaves me with [quite literally] billions of options to chose from, it narrows the scope just enough to make it manageable.

Needless to say, if you’re not the biggest fan of insects [which I don’t blame you for having phobias or even just being squeamish] feel free to mute my posts for the month.

I will be tagging each drawing with its respective phobia as well as more common tags for the creatures. I apologize in advance if an illustration slips through the tags and ends up on the wrong dash.

You reached right into the darkest recesses of my brain and plucked out exactly how I imagined one of the darkest and bloodiest scenes in the entire fic. The DETAILS! The blood splashed all over the sofa and Velvette's hair, Vox's hand gripping onto Velvette's, Vox's glare, Velvette's confused and fearful expression, and Valentino supplicating himself to Vox.
