its been a couple days since i finished the first klonoa game and im still thinking about that ending tbh

it just feels so rare to have a platformer aimed at kids with a sad ending that doesn't try to soften the tragedy? like. they reveal that klonoa is not from phantomile and all his memories of living there were fake all along, and now that the evil is defeated and lephise is saved he can no longer exist in this world and gets forcibly pulled out of it. they do the tragic last moments with huepow trying to hold onto him while klonoa is screaming that he doesn't want to go, and then that's it. he's just Gone

there's no post-credits scene which suggests that the door to phantomile may reopen and klonoa can return to see his friend again. there's no happy 'true' ending if you 100% the game. hell huepow's 'ill always be with you' speech is said upon defeating the final boss and then he returns almost instantly afterwards, not during the parting scene. they just tear these two friends apart forever right in front of you and you have to sit there and Deal With That just like how huepow is left to cry alone

... and then if you saved the other residents you unlock the extra stage which just Does Not explain why klonoa is back to witness balue get rejected by his waifu lephise at all, but hey. cant win em all

i say this because there are four explicitly said to be gods in dtp's wiimake manual (though in the psx manual, they are just referred to as "spirits") and one in lunatea's veil. However there's also ghadius, the dark spirit, and a never-referred-to-but-there-has-to-be-one-because-it-just-makes-sense-i'm-just-filling-in-the-blanks sun spirit, who despite not being referred to as gods (or at all), may count as gods.

some people also think lephise is a deity? no idea where that comes from but it's an idea. so. possibly eight* gods in the klonoa franchise

here are some ideas for tokiponaised klonoa character names:

klonoa = kulona

huepow = pupo (😔)

ghadius = katesu

karal = kalu

solare = either solalu or sunolu

soleil = either soleli or sunoli

baguji = bakuja

some characters' names are easy to tokiponaise, like lepisu [lephise] or popuka [popka]. but others, especially characters whose names are titles (moon queen, high priestess, king of sorrow), or are a bit punny (seadoph) are a bit hard to think of names for in a way that sounds similar and gets the point across. i am very lucky that solare and soleil's names easy work like that in toki pona. you can even really emphasise the "sol"/"solar" part of their names, too, and it still works.

Update Post: 3rd Nov 2021

It's been a week since the last post, and the response from y'all has been unanimously positive!!! I'm so glad that some of y'all want to have this event again!

Now, I do have a big University assignment that's due around December, so I can't guarantee that'll I'll be able to get everything together in time, but I'll certainly try my absolute best!

As you can probably tell, I've gotten a lot busier now in these past 2 years XDDD

But yes, it's settled now, Klonoa Week 2021 will be happening! (To the best of my abilities! XDDD)
