leo walked into the clinic holding his hand in between loosely and tightly and went to the first person he saw. "i'm the worlds biggest clutz," he said chuckling and held up his wrist now clearly swollen, "who should i go to about this and who won't ask questions because it's a little embarrassing."

Yasmin Williams and Tarta Relena at Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, Ohio, March 28, 2023
Yasmin Williams is the reason why the term see a concert - rather than hear a concert - remains in use.
For while it’s temping to close one’s eyes and float down the cascading river of Williams’ solo-instrumental music, to do so puts one at peril of missing the fascinating visuals of the 26-year-old musician at work.
Williams made her Columbus, Ohio, debut before some 70 hard-listening fans March 28 at Ohio State University’s Wexner Center for the Arts - “It’s weird - why do they call it THE Ohio State?,” she asked - on a double bill with Catalan vocal duo Tarta Relena, whose choral voices washed over a church-mouse audience.
On their first U.S. tour, Helena Ros and Marta Torrella were mesmerizing, filling the small Wexner space with an admixture of Gregorian, new-age and operatic, often a cappella, music accompanied by ambient, computer-generated sounds; a mic’d metal urn; clapping hands and stomping feet; and phasers on their microphones. Their 55-minute set in Catalan, Spanish and English drew from the sixth-century B.C. through to Bjork, eliciting a standing ovation and a sense of wonder among the listeners who were left as intrigued as entertained.
Then came Williams, who spent 65 dizzying minutes hypnotizing the audience with still-untitled songs from her forthcoming third album - including one that will feature the “angelic” Aoife O’Donovan on wordless vocals - plus samplings from 2018’s Unwind and 2021’s Urban Driftwood across a 10-song playlist that found “I Wonder” dedicated to the victims of the March 27 school shooting in Nashville.
Like her predecessors, Williams earned a standing-O and played no encore.
Akin to Leo Kottke and Tommy Emmanuel in that she sounds like several musicians at once, Williams is an entirely singular musician.
Deep in concentration, with her guitar across her lap and a mic pointed at her tap-shoed feet as they clicked and clacked on a piece of wood on her guitar case, Williams employed a capo, a guitar hammer, thumb and finger picks and a kalimba Velcro’d to the top of her axe to create the soundscapes that range from the contemplative “On a Friday Night” to the more rambunctious “Guitka.”
She knocked on the guitar’s body and used her index fingers on its neck to create rhythm and melody inside unorthodox, open tunings.
Engaging and talkative, Williams introduced each song with a story about its origins; explained how her musical path had taken her from “Guitar Hero” to Nirvana (“easy to learn”) to Jimi Hendrix (“not easy to learn”) to where she is now.
And where she is now is a musical space inhabited by one. When a fan asked how Williams manages to do what she does, the musician happily revealed her technique.
“I don’t know,” Williams said as everyone shared a laugh.

thanks for the tag @tiny-steve! (absolutely delightful choice of topics on your side btw!!)
Rules: List five topics you can talk about for an hour without preparing any material, and tag five (or more) people!
Guitar Making
Obviously. It's my job after all. From building guitars from scratch to a top 10 of my most interesting repair jobs to amazing and annoying customers to all the guitar maker gossip to species protection to tools to being a woman (or not being a man) in trades.
2. German Crime Shows (esp. Tatort, Polizeiruf, Blind ermittelt)
I'm obsessed with Tatort since I'm fourteen, I made friends because of it, I watch it kinda religiously and dissect every new episode with my mom on the following wednesday over the phone. I guess I could talk about Stedefreund's undercover-arch for an hour alone and why I don't ship Leo and Adam romantically and why I find Leo's reaction to Adam reappearing disappointing. Also the lost potential of Adam Raczek and Vincent. Why Bukow and König were so appealing until they weren't and why Pöschi is the most underrated character ever.
And also on a more general note why it's so uniquely german, how to spot the culprit and why some dynamics between characters are so appealing and how 'the fandom' works.
3. Zine Making and Bookbinding
I could teach you how to make a zine in an hour, I guess? Like a little folded one, but I could also talk about how we did the Crime Zine and all the work that went into it.
And while we're at it I could also talk about my favourite hobby, which is bookbinding.
4. The Franklin Expedition
Watching The Terror led me down an excessive rabbit hole, esp after reading "Erebus" by Michael Palin. So I could also talk about both ships and their former expeditions.
5. Having an Ateliergemeinschaft
I could go on an on with stories from my colleagues and the almost eight years we know each other. Also how to found and set up a good old german Verein and how to defend your Gemeinnützigkeit.

next chapter is here!
"It's really windy out today, isn't it?" Cassie shouted over the sound of the aforementioned winds.
"Just a little further!" Alex shouted back as he somehow managed to drag both Ciara and Cassie on his sled. "Almost at the top of the hill!"
"He's dragged me up this hill every year since I was little," Ciara said as they slowly inched up the snow-covered hill. "Though I can't imagine it's gotten any easier."
"Hey, what good is having muscles for if not for this?" Alex asked, taking one of his hands off the rope tied to the sled in order to flex his bicep. "I'm putting my skills to good use—oh, shit!"
Cassie yelped as the sled began to slowly slide down the hill. She grabbed at the sides of the sled, bumping into Ciara as she did. Alex immediately grabbed at the rope and hefted them back up.
"Having trouble over there?" An unfamiliar voice called as they finally reached the peak of the hill. Alex looked up at the voice and started groaning.
"Will!" Ciara shouted, climbing out of the sled and almost immediately falling face-first into the snow. "Hi!"
Now that the speaker was in sight, Cassie could see that it was a boy in a bright blue parka, and neon orange scarf. His long, black hair was secured in a ponytail with a white headband, and it flapped in the wind. He was holding what looked like a snowboard.
"William Cheng," Alex said as he bowed deeply, seemingly mocking the other boy. "To what do I owe the honor, Yale acceptant?"
"You got into Yale?" Cassie asked in awe. Ciara nodded vigorously, while Will just shrugged. Alex scoffed, loudly.
"Alexios Ramirez-Moreau." Will bowed back. "Fancy seeing you here, this fine day."
"Cassie, this is Diane's son!" Ciara took Will by the hand and dragged him over to Cassie. "Will, this is my new friend, Cassie!"
"Good to meet you!" Cassie reached her hand up, and Will shook it with his gloved hand. "Hey, uh, are you actually die-hard enemies with Alex?"
"Alex?" Will glanced over at the other boy, who was still scowling at him. "Nah. He just thinks we are. I've been keeping it up just for fun."
"Lin! Lin!" A tiny voice shouted, coming up from the hill. "Liiiiin! Push me again! Again!"
A small girl, with the same dark hair as Will's, came running up the hill, the two purple pom-poms on her head bouncing up and down. Cassie assumed that this must be Orchid, Will's younger sister.
Loud stomping could be heard behind her, and Cassie belatedly realized that there were four other kids running up the hill behind her, dragging their own sleds behind them.
One of them had dark red hair tied back in a braid. She was tugging her sled the most aggressively, shouting for someone named Nagi to hurry up. Behind her was a boy with short black hair and a pale blue hat—this must be Nagi—whining for her to slow down. Behind them was Doremi—this was a small world after all—and a girl with dark brown hair with blonde streaks.
"Hua-hua," Will said as Orchid shoved the sled she was tugging into his arms. "Say hi to Ra-ra! You remember her, don't you?"
"Ra-ra!" Orchid said cheerfully, pointing up at Ciara's face. "Will you race me and my friends?"
"We just raced!" The boy whined, tugging at Orchid's sleeve. "Gimme a break!"
"Ugh, Nagi." All four girls chorused, staring at the boy.
"You're such a killjoy!" The girl with braided hair—her hat had the word 'Aoife' stitched across it, so Cassie assumed that was her name—declared, bonking Nagi on the head.
"Now, now, give Nagisa a little break." Will patted Nagisa on the head. All the children began crowding around Will, vying for head pats as well. "Hey, all of you have a new friend to play with! This is Cassie!"
All the children turned in unison towards Cassie, and Cassie briefly felt a shock of fear run through her.
"Hi!" All five elementary school kids shouted, all together.
"I'm Lailah!" The girl with blonde streaks shouted. She seemed to be the most outgoing of the group. She grabbed Doremi by the hand and dragged her over to Cassie. "This is my friend Doremi!" She then grabbed Aoife by the hand and dragged her over as well. "And this is my friend Aoife!"
"I know Cassie already!" Doremi said, wrenching her hand out of Lailah's grasp. "She helped me build a snowman!"
"Can we race you?" Orchid asked, pushing her way to the front. "Please? Pleaaaaaaase?"
"Hm, I don't know about that," Ciara said, standing up. She pointed at each kid, counting out loud. "One, two, three, four, five. There's seven of us! And only four sleds! Can you get another person to join our race, so it's fair?"
“Jiejie!” Orchid declared, sweeping her hand across the hilltop. “She’s coming up right now!”
As she said this, another figure began approaching. Her hair was streaked with dark blue and tied back in a long braid. She was laughing, texting someone on her phone as she trudged up the hill.
“Zuzu!” Orchid shouted, running towards the woman. The woman—Zuzu, apparently—looked up as the girl crashed into her legs.
“Lily!” Will shouted, waving his hand towards his sister. “Did Mama tell you to come here?”
“Hm? Hi!” Lily said, patting Orchid’s head. “Yeah, Mama wanted me to watch over you guys.”
“What, she doesn’t trust me enough?” Will asked, walking over to stand next to his sisters. “I’m a college student now. I live, like, ten thousand miles away from home! I've been functioning perfectly fine!”
“Yeah, and the last time she left you with Orchid, she was crying because you googled ‘magical girl anime’ and decided it was a good idea to show a five year old Madoka Magica.”
Will opened his mouth, closed it, apparently saw that he had no good retort, and then turned back to Orchid. "Well, now you can race against them, yeah?"
"Yeah!" All of the children shouted at the same time.
"We're gonna kick your a—" Ciara hesitated for a second, realizing that she was about to swear in front of a bunch of ten year olds. Cassie had to repress a laugh. "Your butts. Yeah. That."
"Let's start!" Will declared. From somewhere in the back, Alex groaned.
-
Alex was voted as the person to draw the finish line, and so he was forced to walk all the way down the hill. He drew a huge line in the snow with a stick, between two large pine trees.
"Good enough?!" He shouted, waving both his hands up at them. He looked so small, all the way down there. Ciara laughed, pointing at her older brother. "Hey! Stop laughing! You look way smaller than normal too!"
"Can't hear you!" Ciara made the 'L' sign at Alex, who made it back. "Too tiny!"
"Whoever crosses the finish line first owes everyone else a cup of hot chocolate!" Will fumbled with his phone as he spoke, presumably wanting to record the races.
"Gege, I can't have hot chocolate, remember?" Orchid tugged at Will's jacket. "Mama said I can't have hot chocolate without my special pills."
"You can get one of your cookies, okay?" Will gently picked up his younger sister, placing her on the sled in front of Lily. Orchid nodded, placing her older sister's arms around her shoulders.
"You ready?" Ciara asked, tugging at the ropes of her sled. Cassie nodded, climbing on the sled behind her and wrapping her arms around her shoulders.
"I hope you know how to steer this thing." Cassie looked around cautiously, looking for any particularly sharp rocks or tree roots. "Please don't kill us."
“I got this.” Ciara planted her foot on the ground, preparing to kick off. Cassie did the same. Next to them, Orchid was excitedly playing with her sled ropes. Lily was sitting behind her, holding the ropes as well. Nagisa and Aoife were on one sled, and Doremi and Lailah were on another.
“READY!”
Ciara tightened her grip on the ropes.
“SET!”
Cassie sucked in a deep breath.
“GO!”
They all kicked off at the same time, gaining speed as gravity took hold of the sled. The trees and rocks all blurred together, becoming colorful smears against the white backdrop of the snow.
Sitting on the sled, watching the scenery pass her by, Cassie felt as though she was light enough to fly away.
“HECK YEAH!” Ciara screamed as they careened down the hill. Her hair whipped around her face, and Cassie was sure that her own hair was doing the same.
Near the bottom of the hill, there was a patch of rocks hidden underneath the snow, and Cassie swore she could feel every single jagged rock underneath them. To their left, Orchid was squealing every time she and her sister ran over a rock. To their right, Nagisa was screaming in fright, with Aoife yelling at him to stop being such a scaredy cat. Behind them, Cassie could hear Doremi shouting about how they got stuck, accompanied by Lailah's groaning.
“Really bumpy patch coming up ahead!” Ciara managed to warn Cassie before they ran over a truly massive rock.
“Hold on!” Ciara screamed, as Cassie wrapped her arms tighter around her shoulders.
“I’m holding on!” They hit rock after rock, both girls screaming as they did. The one time Cassie managed to glance over at Orchid and Lily, she found that they had pulled over, probably opting to forfeit the competition. Nagisa had chickened out, abandoning his sled and lying in the snow. Aoife was standing over him, probably berating him.
“The finish line!” Both girls shouted at the same time. The line in the snow was barely visible from where they were, Alex standing and pacing back and forth.
“So close!” Cassie yelled, mentally trying to urge Ciara to go faster. “C’mon!”
And just as they were close enough to clearly see the finish line, their sled crashed into the biggest rock yet. The end of the sled jammed into the rock, sending both of them flying into the snow.
“WHOA—“
“OW—“
“JESUS CHRIST—!” Alex yelped as he dove out of the way of the girls. Cassie was sent flying face-first into a snowdrift, while Ciara landed on her back, her head coming dangerously close to a nearby tree.
“You good?” Cassie called out, pulling her face out of the snow. She shivered as the cold wetness managed to find its way into her jacket.
Ciara seemed to be worse off, as she seemed to have gotten snow into her shirt, and was violently trying to shake the slush out of her clothes.
“Cold! Cold, cold, cold!” She yelped as Alex picked her up to try and shake the snow out. “Alex, not sure if that’s helping!”
“The winner is…!” Will shouted as he snowboarded down the hill, expertly weaving his way in and out of the rocks and trees. “C & C! Cassie and Ciara!”
“We won!” Cassie held out her hand for Ciara to high-five, the latter giving her a full-hearted high five despite her condition.
"No fair!" All the children slowly began trickling down the hill, all of them being very disappointed that they lost.
"Rematch! Rematch!" Lailah shouted as Doremi lugged her sled behind her. "Ours got stuck! Not fair!"
"Nagi chickened out!" Aoife shook Nagisa back and forth by the shoulders.
"Now, now," Will said, spreading his arms out wide. "I think we should all go back inside for some snacks! We should warm up a little bit, yeah? Ciara definitely needs it."
"Snacks! Snacks!" All of the children dutifully trooped down the hill, their ire forgotten in the face of snacks. Lily lead the way to her house, with Will and Alex following in her stead, arguing as they went.
"That was pretty fun," Cassie said, though her teeth were clattering from the cold. Ciara shivered as she walked next to her. "Hot chocolate sounds pretty good."
"Yeah, it does." Ciara shook her head, still trying to get all the snow out. "But, hey, at least we won!"
Cassie grinned, bumping her fist against Ciara's. Despite the cold, the thrill of victory warmed their hearts.
"We won."

(god i can't wait to finish this fic and share it with you)
By the time she got in front of the panel at B&H, she was seven interviews deep into this hellish marathon of graduate applications, and was still waiting for call-backs. That day, there were five lawyers in front of her. Three partners, two associates, three men, two women - all of them eyeing her application folder with a mixture of scepticism and mild amusement. Aoife never felt like she was being taken seriously by any of them. Most of their questions were designed to bait future trainees, identify flaws and weed out the ones who wouldn’t fit within law firm culture, or withstand the pressure. She spent hours upon hours that year, sat on chairs, thinking that she didn’t, in fact, fit. The pressure wasn't the problem. She was just too different. That one time, they’d put her in the middle of the room, like an interrogation room - no desk for her, no notes - with her badly ironed shirt and the pencil skirt she’d got from Penneys that didn’t really suit her. The oldest of them sat at the centre of the table facing her - messy greying hair and bushy eyebrows. ‘You, er - you seem to have taken a gap year between your secondary school at Muckross College and starting in UCD, is that correct?’ Aoife pursed her lips. She’d tried to camouflage it a bit, only listing the years rather than the months. She didn’t have much to say right now about that time of her life. ‘Yes,’ she nodded. ‘And, what did you do during that time?’ ‘I worked.’ ‘Oh, interesting! You should definitely write that down, then. Where was it?’ She closed her eyes. Snapped. Isn’t quite sure why she snapped. She was so tired, perhaps. Looked up again, crossed his gaze. ‘I was a rebellion leader in a war between wizards,’ she said. ‘There was a dictator, he went by the name of “Lord Voldemort.” He wanted to kill everyone who wasn’t a pureblood witch or wizard.’ She paused for breath. ‘So, my friends, my brother and I, we joined an organisation called the “Free Irish Wizarding Force,” which was overseen by an entity in the UK called “the Order of the Phoenix.” We fought Voldemort’s oppressive regime by hiding refugees and bombing weapons and potion supply chains and committing armed robberies to claim funds for the rebellion. Eventually, on the 2nd of May 1998, there was a big wizard battle up in Scotland - I was there - and we finally won. We went back to our daily lives,’ she amended. ‘Especially me because I’m not a witch, you see, but not before I’d shot someone.’ In front of her. Silence. Dead silence. Her gaze scanned their stunned, shell-shocked faces. Her eyebrows raised, like ‘any other questions?’ and she was struggling to keep them in. The giggles threatening to spread. She bit her lip so hard and almost broke down, definitely wasn’t going to get that one. In fact, looking at the woman to her right, Aoife wondered if they weren’t going to call an ambulance, get her committed right away. But then, this: her saviour. Her knight in shining armour. The youngest partner - at the end of the table to her left. She remembers stealing a quick glance at his nameplate again. Leo Ashford, it read. He just - burst out a laugh, she recalls now. Uncontrollable, sudden, and incredibly loud. His messy dark hair moved with the motion of his head, and his steel blue eyes almost squinted into oblivion with his large smile. It lasted a second, maybe two, and then - all of them. Even the stressed out woman, and the old man. ‘Oh-kay, Miss Finnigan, you’ve certainly got a sense of humour,’ he grinned. ‘On the form, I’ll say “travelled” - does that suit?’ She got an offer. Incredibly. Can you already tell that this is a love story?

Is that LEÓN OROZCO? I heard the THIRTY SIX year old belongs to the OUTLAWS MC as a VICE PRESIDENT. I’d stay away from them if I were you. I heard they were EXPLOSIVE, but they can also be UNFLAPPABLE, so proceed at your own risk.
S T A T S
FULL NAME: León Samuel Orozco NICKNAME(S): Leo OCCUPATION: Mechanic at Velocity Motors & Vice President of the Outlaws MC
GENDER: Cis Man PRONOUNS: He/Him NATIONALITY: American ETHNICITY: Mexican/White
BIRTH PLACE: Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, USA HOMETOWN: Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, USA SOCIAL CLASS: Middle Class EDUCATION LEVEL: GED FATHER: Teo Orozco MOTHER: Aoife Orozco neé Doherty SIBLING(S): tba CHILDREN: n/a PET(S): a blockheaded stray pitbull named Carl (don't ask)
B I O G R A P H Y
León Orozco was born into a world that never gave him a chance to be anything but hard. The son of a Mexican father and an Irish-American mother, he grew up in a volatile home where love and violence coexisted. His father, a mechanic with past ties to a cartel-affiliated gang, tried to instill discipline in him, teaching him how to fight, fix bikes, and handle himself in a world that didn’t tolerate weakness. His mother, fiery and unpredictable, had her own struggles, and while she loved him fiercely, her instability often left León fending for himself.
From a young age, he was drawn to trouble. The streets were his real teachers, and by the time he was in his early teens, he was already making a name for himself in underground fights and street hustles. He was smart, but school held no interest for him; the only lessons he cared about were the ones that ensured survival. He learned how to handle a blade before he learned how to drive, and by the time he was sixteen, he had his first charge for aggravated assault.
Violence wasn’t just something he did—it became the language he spoke best. He had a reputation for keeping his cool when it mattered, but when he snapped, it was like a bomb going off. He didn’t just fight to win; he fought to make sure no one ever tried him again. And it worked. People feared him, respected him, but no one ever truly got close to him. Not even family.
Prison was inevitable for León. By nineteen, he was locked up for nearly killing a man in a brawl that got out of hand. It was inside that he met the Outlaws MC. The gang had deep ties in the prison system, running smuggling rings, enforcing debts, and making sure the right people owed them favors. León, with his short fuse and sharp instincts, was the kind of soldier they liked—dangerous, disciplined when needed, and, most importantly, willing to do whatever it took.
He earned his place fast. Not just because of his fists, but because he understood how to play the game. He wasn’t just some thug who liked to throw punches—he was calculating. He knew when to strike and when to bide his time. The older Outlaws took notice, and by the time he got out, they had a place for him. He wasn’t a recruit; he was already family.
Starting at the bottom, he proved himself time and time again. He handled debts, ran protection, and took care of problems no one else wanted to touch. But where others might have been satisfied with being just another soldier, León wanted more. He saw the Outlaws as more than just a brotherhood of bikers—they were power, and power was something he intended to have.
León didn’t just climb the ranks—he carved his way up with blood and fire. He earned his reputation as the Outlaws’ most unpredictable weapon. While he had a hair-trigger temper, he also knew how to use it strategically. He made people fear him before they even had a reason to.
His defining moment came when an internal betrayal nearly shattered the club. One of their own had been feeding information to a rival syndicate, setting them up for ambushes and undercutting their operations. The Outlaws knew there was a traitor, but no one could prove it—until León took matters into his own hands. He figured out who it was, handled it quietly, and left a message so brutal that no one dared to question his loyalty or his willingness to do what needed to be done. That was the day the President started looking at him as more than just muscle.
By the time he was offered the role of Vice President, León had already solidified his place as the enforcer no one wanted to cross. He leaned into the Outlaws’ reputation—if the world wanted to see them as mindless brutes, then he’d be the monster they feared.
To the outside world, León Orozco is the embodiment of the Outlaws MC’s most terrifying aspects: loyalty that runs deeper than blood, an unshakable belief in retribution, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to keep the club on top. While the more refined syndicates may look down on the Outlaws, León doesn’t give a damn. When the chips are down, it’s not strategy that wins wars—it’s who’s willing to get their hands the dirtiest. And no one’s hands are dirtier than his.
H E A D C A N N O N S:
He has a fascination with old mythology, particularly Aztec and Irish legends. He doesn’t talk about it much, but he’s drawn to stories of warriors, gods, and sacrifice—things that reflect the brutal world he’s always known. Sometimes, he sees parallels between those myths and his own life, reinforcing his belief that violence and loyalty are the only true currencies.
He believes that fear is a more reliable currency than respect, though deep down, he craves the latter.
Despite his hardened nature, he has a soft spot for dogs and often finds himself taking in strays, though he never advertises it.
His biggest motivation is proving to himself and others that he is more than just a tool for violence—he wants to leave a lasting mark on the Outlaws, shaping them into something bigger.
He has a deep-seated hatred for snitches and traitors, viewing them as the lowest form of existence. Nothing makes his blood boil more than

Sometimes its common that some films comes out without my knowledge, particularly non-Hollywood English language films. This British film was about a wealthy couple from the New York, especially the husband who tries his best to fulfill his seriously ill wife’s dream to be an opera singer. The problem is she’s not any good. Not just him, but everybody who is close to them and once laughed at her, try to understand them and give their support. But not all the occasion seems to remain the same. So on one such a big event, the disaster strikes and how it affects the couple is the rest of the tale to disclose. A very surprising film. I thought it was just a comedy like it brings small smiles on our face, but I laughed out loud on many occasions. This is definitely a right time, because I felt like it was a music and cinematic version of the American presidential candidate Don Trump. Yep, there not much difference, but still this ...

Irish Film, TV Nominations 2023: ‘The Banshees of Inisherin,’ ‘Bad Sisters’ Lead With Most Nods
“The Banshees of Inisherin,” starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, led the nominations for the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs) as the full list of nominees was unveiled on Monday night local time, picking up 11 nods in the film category.
“Bad Sisters” – Sharon Horgan’s Apple TV+ mystery series – led the pack in the drama category with 12 noms.
Coming off the back of a stellar year for Irish film and television, the nominations include a number of familiar names and titles, including Paul Mescal, who has been nominated for best lead actor in a film for “Aftersun” and best supporting actor in a film for “God’s Creatures” while Farrell is also competing in both categories, both for his star turn in “Banshees” and his supporting role as Penguin in “The Batman.”
“Conversations with Friends” has also scored noms in multiple categories while Aoife McArdle is up for best drama director for Apple TV+ series “Severance.” Sinead O’Connor doc “Nothing Compares” is up for best feature documentary.
The IFTAs are set to take place at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre on May 7. They will be broadcast on local network RTÉ.

American Acoustic - Punch Brothers, I’m With Her and Julian Lage at Taft Theatre, Cincinnati, Ohio, Aug. 12, 2017
“Good luck,” Chris Thile said.
These final words came at the end of a powerful encore on the Cincinnati stop of the American Acoustic Tour, in which nine musicians - the members of Punch Brothers and I’m With Her and guitarist Julian Lage - performed a dichotomous, two-song encore that began with a bursting-with-joy version of Three Dog Night’s “Mama Told Me Not to Come” and ended with the melancholic strains of the Brothers’ “This is the Song (Good Luck).”
It was the end of nearly three hours of music - delivered in sets of 70 and 100 minutes, respectively - in which the bands played together and alone and in various combinations and took the nearly full Taft Theater and its hard-listening audience on a tour through the power of music and the human voice. Not only acoustic, this show was unplugged - fiddles, guitars, mandolins, banjos, basses, et al. were not tethered by cords; they were channeled through center-stage mics - no amps allowed.
The result was breathtaking. And the audience sat silently rapt through it all, exploding into cheers only as songs ended and after particularly powerful solos. Concertgoers knew the nuances of these performances were important.
This was a low-frills presentation. A large, beige backdrop touted the tour’s title and the players played under minimal lighting and engaged in understated, but sincere, banter, which showed they were beyond happy to be where they were, with whom they were with and doing what they were doing.
The nine musicians spent the final 55 minutes of the show sharing the spotlight, sometimes playing in a nonet, other times in various combinations while colleagues sat in chairs on either side of the stage, taking in the show like the fans they were. A staggering run of performances, this segment featured a mini Nickel Creek reunion on “Destination;” the entire group playing Thile’s hilarious and timely “Comey’s Waltz;” a jaw-dropping rendition of the Beatles’s “Julia” with Thile, Aoife O'Donovan and Sarah Jarosz singing tender harmonies while fiddlers Sara Watkins and Gabe Witcher added plaintive violin melodies; and other traditional and original numbers that seemed designed to ease the tension after a day in which America was rocked by neo-Nazi terrorism in the South.
This set- and show-closing segment segued directly out of Punch Brothers’ 45-minute, second-half-opening performance in which the quintet gathered around the mics to share its quirky take on bluegrass music. Dressed in various versions of office attire - jackets, ties, vests, smart shoes - the Brothers oozed virtuosity whether they were reinterpreting Debussy’s “Passepied” or inserting jazzy riffs into the proceedings with original numbers such as “Julep.”
Although Thile is the clear ringmaster, he never dominates his Brothers and together they create a family-style performance that takes bluegrass to places its never been while - and this is the truly amazing part - never straying too far from its home base. This was a powerhouse demonstration that - because of the setting in which it occurred - was not the highlight of the evening.
That honor belongs to I’m With Her, the trio of Watkins, Jarosz and O'Donovan, which formed spontaneously in 2015 to open for the Punch Brothers.
Resplendent in floor-length black dresses, the Americana supergroup sang like sisters, Watkins’ willowy rasp, Jarosz’s smooth alto and O'Donovan’s confident whisper-to-wail blending to create on instrument that raised skin and neck hair early and often during their 40-minute showcase.
Watkins and O'Donovan are pregnant - with children and songs - and the band debuted new tracks to be included on a forthcoming album. The set that could have been longer included the title track from their new EP, Little Lies, and well-chosen covers like Jim Croce’s “Walkin’ Back to Georgia” and John Hiatt’s “Crossing Muddy Waters.” They all played guitar - with Watkins alternating on fiddle and Jarosz also playing mandolin and banjo - and switched off on lead vocals.
Brothers bassist Paul Kowert made I’m With Her a quartet, adding bubbly bottom end to the final song that lead to a short, 20-minute break before the headliners took over. This was rewarded with an exuberant standing ovation from the audience and gigantic smiles from the performers.
After his single-song, solo performance, Punch Brother and banjoist extraordinaire Noam Pikelny - looking like he’d just woken up with hair on end, a wrinkled jacket and tie askew - introduced I’m With Her as the best band going for his money and they lived up to the lofty billing.
Pikelny’s slot was the capper on a rotating 30-minute, opening sequence that began with Thile, Lage, O'Donovan and Jarosz kicking things off sweetly with the first of many awe-inspiring pieces that would follow and ran through Watkins leading a large grouping through her own “Young in All the Wrong Ways” and featured 29-year-old Lage - performing alone - building the foundation of a reputation that will one day place him along side the likes of Tommy Emmanuel and Leo Kottke on the Mount Rushmore of acoustic pickers.
Each of these musicians and bands could easily carry a show on their own. But they’re stronger together. And together, they carried some 2,500 music lovers to a high plane only rarely attained - a rare state of contentment where nothing outside the happenings at hand matters and where the problems of a bleak world disappear, if only temporarily.
Grade card: American Acoustic - Punch Brothers, I’m With Her and Julian Lage at Taft Theatre - 8/12/17 - A+

If you don't mind me asking, who are your OCs? Are they for a fandom or an original story?
All original! I have many many many OCs to populate these stories so no one should ever feel bad for not recognizing an OC of mine btw.
I have three main stories:
Eternity, which is about two best friends who hunt cryptids together and may or may not have magical destinies together as well. This has the characters Sam, Alex, Leo, Jynx, Tally, and many many more.
Vendetta, which I don't talk about as much cause it's sad lmao, is about a young woman who realized that the superheroes of her city aren't much of heroes at all, and after being antagonized by the media for saying as such, became a supervillain to oppose them. This has characters like Vendetta (or Morgan), Victory (or Vivian), Bromaine (or Chadley, yes his names are weird), Techno (or Spencer) and Danielle. Or Philip he's there sometimes but not usually.
And Nexus, which is my main story, about a generic teenaged Chosen One who is given superpowers, and starts making enemies. But also friends. This one has the characters Arely, Aoife, Ellie, Malcolm, Imogene, Corey, Xander, Neo, Kim, Joe, Christie, Marcus, Quinn, Monica, Lillian, Mikkel, Reuben, Neo, and just.....soso many. So many.
It has been a very long time since I've reblogged the post I made briefly (....kind of) explaining all of this, but now I'm thinking it might be wiser to just make a new one, OR find the Google document I made for this purpose and immediately misplaced, because of course I did. Hopefully this helps some though?
#my ocs#i do have some fan ocs but not many and i don't talk about them so much. and if i do it's usually prefaced as such or at least tagged#my writing#nexus#Vendetta#eternity#thanks for the ask!
