Triremes over Europe
Summary: “But isn’t it weird that it took me so long to realize this?” Jason asked, his expression still terribly vulnerable. “Shouldn’t this be something I just… know?”
“Sometimes it’s not,” Piper said, trying to keep the trembling out of her voice. Something in her chest was resonating, threatening to spill out, and she wasn’t quite ready to face it. “You know how the Mist works? How it will make people see what they’re expecting to see? It can be like that, too.”
It had been so easy to lean into it and ignore all evidence to the contrary. Piper McLean was in love with Jason Grace. There wasn’t a giant trireme flying over Europe.
Or: After the events in Split, Jason breaks up with Piper. Piper’s world shifts, but not in the way she expected.

Posting some more of this little fic universe! This time featuring Piper and Jason having a very amicable breakup. Piper and Jason are both queer and confused (there’s some level of comphet and internalized homophobia going on here for anyone who doesn’t feel like dealing with that right now), main focus is on the two of them being friends.
Piper has a crush on Reyna and doesn’t realize it and Jason has some perfectly normal platonic feelings towards Leo, thank you for asking. Please note that the tagged ships are pining only for this fic and this is a friendship fic first and a ship fic second.
Quick story note before we begin: for this universe I’m ignoring the whole Calypso situation (Percy can go yell at the gods to get her off the island when they’re done), so if you’re wondering why Leo is on the Argo during the Notus part, here’s your explanation!
———
Piper was about to get ready for bed when someone knocked on the door to her cabin.
She rubbed her eyes, confused, wondering if maybe she’d started drifting off and imagined the noise since it made no sense.
It was after midnight, way past the time when anyone except whoever was on watch was supposed to be walking around the ship. If it had been some sort of emergency, she couldn’t imagine her friends knocking instead of yelling about whatever was trying to kill them for the whole corridor to hear. And there hadn’t been a ton to report since they’d gotten stuck with Notus, anyway. Most likely, the main danger to Leo and Frank right now was that they’d bicker each other to death.
Hedge had already done his rounds, and he didn’t knock, exactly. He just yelled about how they all better be sleeping and banged his baseball bat against the door so loudly that if you really had been asleep before, you wouldn’t be after.
This only left Hazel, Nico or Jason, except Hazel had headed to bed early because she had a headache, Piper and Nico weren’t exactly friends, and Jason… he just wasn’t the type to break the rules, for any reason, no matter how much Piper wished he was.
The person knocked again, making it pretty clear that she hadn’t, in fact imagined it the first time, so Piper got up to open the door.
She was baffled when the door opened to a really sheepish, obviously anxious Jason.
“I didn’t wake you, did I?” he asked apologetically, looking at a point past her head.
“This might shock you, but I don’t usually sleep in jeans,” Piper joked. She raised an eyebrow. “Are you bending the rules to spend time with me? Who are you and what have you done to my boyfriend?”
Jason didn’t smile. He looked exhausted. The only benefit of the Notus situation should have been that Jason got some rest, since they weren’t constantly dealing with venti trying to crash the ship. Apparently he hadn’t been getting very much sleep regardless.
“Piper, listen, I… can I talk to you? It’s kind of important.”
She knew the instant the words were out of his mouth that this was it. They were done.
She’d been dreading this breakup for a while. Part of her had always known it was coming—that their relationship came with an expiration date. It was hard to put into words why. She just had. The way he’d been acting since his last mission had only made her more sure of it.
“Come in.” Piper forced a smile, trying to swallow the acid in her throat. She stepped aside to let Jason through, shutting the door behind him. “If you’re going to break up with me, I’d rather not have an audience.”
Jason didn’t argue. He wouldn’t even meet her eyes, dashing any hopes she might have had that she was misreading the situation again.
She sat back down on her bed, and a moment later Jason sank down next to her with obvious reluctance, far enough away that they weren’t touching. Great. Like this situation needed to get any more awkward.
“Listen, Pipes, I’m really sorry.” Jason was looking down at his hands, fidgeting uncomfortably. “It’s not that you’re- You didn’t do anything wrong. You’ve been great, actually. We’re just- I’m just not-” he broke off with a sigh, pressing his hands to his face. “Gods, I’m a disaster. I can’t even get the words out.”
“Here, I’ll help,” Piper huffed, crossing her arms. “It’s Reyna, isn’t it?”
She felt… she wasn’t sure what she was feeling, actually.
Not surprised, exactly. She’d need both hands to count all the times she’d thought Jason would break up with her in the last few weeks. She wasn’t even sure she could blame him, really. Reyna was gorgeous. She didn’t need charmspeak to control a crowd—her general air of authority was more than enough. She was an awe-inspiring force of nature. If Piper could gather all that from the short time they’d spent together and a few flashes in her dagger, she couldn’t begin to imagine what years with her would be like. Of course Jason was in love with her. It seemed utterly impossible for anyone not to be.
So what was it that Piper was feeling? Jealousy, maybe? Anger? Neither of those felt like the right way to describe it.
There was a pressure in her chest that she couldn’t explain. All she knew was that it hurt. That it had been hurting ever since she’d started thinking about Jason and Reyna together, hands linked as they walked through the streets of New Rome.
It hadn’t been an issue when he’d first told her—when Reyna had been a vague idea of a person that had meant something to Jason in a different life. But that had been before she’d actually met Reyna.
Everything felt different since.
“It’s not Reyna,” Jason choked out. He looked more upset than she’d ever seen him, despite the fact that he was the one who’d decided to break up with her. “It’s never been about Reyna.”
Piper’s heart did something weird and awful, then. It unclenched slightly. Some of the tension went out of her shoulders, like it fundamentally wasn’t as bad if it was anyone else.
“Then who is it?” she asked, because she was supposed to want to know. Because she wanted to go on ignoring the confusing ball of emotion in her chest that told her maybe it didn’t matter.
She wanted to shove those feelings back in the box and never look at them again.
“It’s not about anyone. It’s just me.” Jason looked like he might cry. Piper wasn’t sure she’d ever seen him cry before.
He’d never been good at letting his walls down around her.
Despite the hurt and confusion, Piper reached out to put a hand on his shoulder. It felt like the natural thing to do. He’d been her friend before he’d ever been her boyfriend. “Hey, Sparky. Look at me.”
“Something happened. In Split,” Jason admitted after a long moment of silence. He did lift his head, then, but he still wouldn’t meet her eyes.
“Yeah, that much is obvious from how weird you and Nico have been acting.”
Neither of them had talked about what had happened or how they’d gotten the scepter.
For the first few days after, Piper had barely seen Nico. He hadn’t even shown up for meals. He’d always been withdrawn, but not like that. And Jason… he’d been acting different around her. Pulling away when Piper tried to hold his hand, sincerely apologetic and terribly awkward at the same time. She’d hoped he was just stressed. The threat of the end of the world would do that to most people.
Apparently not.
Jason also seemed to have a newfound soft spot for Nico. He’d gone from jumpy every time Nico moved like he kept forgetting he was there to being protective of him whenever the subject came up, like he’d suddenly decided Nico was his younger brother and any bad word about him was a personal offense.
Piper wasn’t sure what Jason had done to change Nico’s mind, but whatever the case, as of two days ago he was back to eating with the rest of them.
“Tell me what happened.”
Jason shook his head. “I can’t. I’m sorry. It’s not my place to talk about it.”
“So tell me what you can talk about,” she said, not forcefully. She didn’t want him to tell her because she’d accidentally used her charmspeak. She wanted him to tell her because they’d been dating for months at this point and she deserved to understand what was going on, even if she didn’t like it. “Because if you’re going to break up with me, I’d at least like to know why.”
“I’m sorry.” He did cry, then, his eyes pressed shut like that might make the pain go away. “I'm just really confused right now. I know my timing is awful. But it wouldn’t be fair to just keep dating you when I…” Jason clenched his hands into her blanket, apparently trying to steady his breathing. He didn’t quite manage. Then he looked directly at her, his expression more vulnerable than she’d ever seen it. “When I’m not even sure I’m into girls. I. Uhm. I think I might be gay?”
Piper couldn’t stand the fear in his eyes. Before she fully registered what she was doing, she’d looped her arms around Jason’s midsection and pulled him to her chest. “It’s okay. You’re okay. Breathe.”
Jason made a surprised noise, but he obeyed, steadying himself against her as his breaths evened out against her shoulder. She wasn’t sure she’d ever held him like this before. It felt intimate, maybe more than any of their kisses had.
“You’re not mad?” he asked when they broke apart, looking at her like he was still expecting her to change her mind and start yelling at him.
“Why would I be mad?”
“Because I just broke up with you?” He sounded more confused than anything now. “Because I wasted a bunch of your time?”
Piper blinked, momentarily baffled by her own reaction. Jason was right. Maybe she should feel mad—not at his sexuality, obviously, and probably not even at him, but definitely at the situation. At the very least, she should probably feel bummed out, especially considering how long they’d been dating.
Somehow, she wasn’t feeling either of those things. She had, for a brief moment at the beginning, but not for the reasons she was supposed to be feeling that way. By now, any upset she’d felt had vanished completely. The confusing knot of emotions in her heart had unspooled into a treacherous feeling of relief.
For weeks, she’d assumed Jason breaking up with her would be the worst thing that could happen. Now that it was done, it felt like someone had removed a weight from her chest. Like she could breathe freely for the first time in months.
“I’m not going to be mad at you for something you only just realized about yourself,” she said, squeezing his shoulder gently.
“But isn’t it weird that it took me so long to realize this?” Jason asked, his expression still terribly vulnerable. “Shouldn’t this be something I just… know?”
“Sometimes it’s not,” Piper said, trying to keep the trembling out of her voice. Something in her chest was resonating, threatening to spill out, and she wasn’t quite ready to face it. She thought back to the conversation she’d had with Hazel a few nights ago. “You know how the Mist works? How it will make people see what they’re expecting to see? It can be like that, too.”
It had been so easy to lean into it and ignore all evidence to the contrary. Piper McLean was in love with Jason Grace. There wasn’t a giant trireme flying over Europe.
She thought about how she’d told Jason she loved him when she assumed they were going to die, only to feel the same treacherous relief she did now when she’d realized he hadn’t heard it. She’d rationalized it by saying it would have been too soon.
It was starting to click that that hadn’t been the reason for her relief at all.
Piper had an actor for a dad. Maybe it made sense that she was just a little bit too good at pretending.
Jason looked at her, surprised, and then he smiled, tiny and fragile and like he could see right through her.
He hugged her again, and Piper felt like her chest might cave in—like all the things she’d refused to let herself feel might come tumbling out for everyone to see.
It terrified her. But something about this—about the fact that she wasn’t terrified and confused alone—made it easier to breathe.
“I’m glad we’re friends,” Jason said softly. “I like you so much. I think you’re awesome. I just… I don’t think I ever saw what I was supposed to when I looked at you.”
Piper’s head hurt, the way it sometimes did when she knew she was going to start crying. This was why it had been so perfectly easy to pretend with Jason. Why it might have been even without the fake memories and her mom telling her they were meant to be.
Jason was nice and brave and conventionally attractive. He was her friend, and Piper cared about him. Why wouldn’t she want them to be more? He was like a cardboard cutout of the love interest in every high school romcom she’d ever watched.
He was everything she was supposed to want in a boyfriend. She was supposed to fall asleep thinking about him. She was supposed to want to be alone with him. Instead, every time they were, she wished Leo was there to bridge the awkward silences. When she closed her eyes, she thought of Annabeth and their game of domestic breakfast theft. She thought of Reyna’s determined expression reflected in her knife.
But Annabeth was her friend, and Piper was worried. Of course she was thinking about her.
And Reyna… Reyna wasn’t anything to Piper. She was just a girl Jason had never dated, a girl he’d repeatedly stated he didn’t see as anything more than a friend. She wasn’t a threat to the relationship that Piper had convinced herself she wanted. There was no reason for the amount of space Reyna had taken up in Piper’s head.
She’d taken up residence regardless, and whenever Piper let her thoughts wander, her fingers wound up tangled in long brown hair.
Gods, fuck.
“Well, turns out we’re both kind of a mess,” she choked out, rubbing at her eyes, and yep, she was definitely crying now. It was as close to the truth as she allowed herself to get.
Jason swayed a little as he held her, like they were the strangest pair of dancers in history. It was weirdly soothing.
“And we’re both going to be okay,” he said, like it was the most certain thing in the world.
Piper held on tightly and let herself sink into that feeling. She wasn’t in love with Jason, but gods, she did love him. Curled up against his chest, that was one of the few things she felt certain about.
“Do you want to talk about it?” she asked quietly, after she managed to get a bit more of a handle on her emotions again.
They’d never been great at the talking part. They made a decent questing team, sure, but the moments before and after, when it was just the two of them… Piper never knew what to do with those. Jason didn’t seem to have much of a clue, either.
Needless to say, she was a little surprised when Jason nodded.
“It’s confusing. It’s been confusing since Hera took my memories. They still don’t really feel like mine. They’re more like a movie I watched a few times—I know the plot and remember all the important bullet points, but that’s it. I’m not attached to them in the way I’m supposed to be.” Jason sighed. “I don’t remember ever seriously thinking of dating anyone, but maybe I had crushes. Some of the emotional parts didn’t carry over great. Maybe I was getting there, and then Hera decided it was inconvenient for what she had in mind, and now I’m confused all over again.”
Piper cringed. Having to do this once was bad enough. She couldn’t imagine what it’d feel like to have to go through it twice.
“I’m sorry.”
Jason was back to wringing his hands.
“I’d never even kissed anyone before you, which is probably part of why I didn’t figure things out sooner. I have no idea how it’s supposed to feel. Just that whatever I am feeling probably isn’t… that.”
This seemed like something Piper was supposed to know. She was the daughter of the goddess of love, for crying out loud.
The truth was, she didn’t. Not really.
Jason was the only person she’d ever kissed, in whatever moments she felt warranted a kiss. That in itself maybe should have told her something a lot sooner—how she’d thought of kissing him not as something she wanted to be doing, but as a task to be checked off a list.
It was incredible what the Mist could hide if you didn’t think it was there. If you weren’t ready to see it. How well your brain could pull wool over your eyes when it came to things you weren’t willing to process.
It was one thing to risk being all over the tabloids with a stupid stunt she'd pulled to get her dad's attention. If people judged her for that, she could brush it off because they didn't truly know her.
Because that behavior was a choice she made, and one she could stop making at any time. But she already had enough people who judged her based on her heritage. If she could at least take this part of herself and package it up until it was unrecognizable so she never had to deal with what anyone else thought of it, wasn't that worth it, even if it made her miserable?
But you couldn't will the Mist back once you'd seen through it. And here, with Jason, who got her even if she still couldn't get the words out, Piper didn't think she wanted to.
She wanted to hold that piece of herself to her chest and just be, damn it. The world might end in a few weeks. And if they couldn't stop it, she'd so much rather live these last few weeks as herself. And if they did manage, well… she would cross that bridge if Gaia didn’t blow it up first.
Piper let that decision settle, with all the mixed emotions that came with it. It felt mostly good.
Then she gave herself a moment to really consider what Jason had said about kissing, thinking back to the campers who’d come to her for advice. In retrospect, that felt terribly ironic. Who was she to give romantic advice to anyone when she’d made herself so blind to her own feelings?
“I think there’s supposed to be sparks,” she finally said. “Not that I’ve got any more experience in that department than you do.”
“What, like I should fry them?” Jason raised an eyebrow. “That doesn’t sound safe.”
“Not literal sparks.” Piper paused, thinking about the gems that appeared whenever Hazel got nervous, or the way Leo would sometimes catch fire when he was stressed or excited. Maybe Jason’s thought wasn’t completely absurd. “Actually, there might be literal sparks, with your powers. But for most people, it’s more metaphorical. A warmth in your chest whenever you think about kissing them. Your heart flutters, and you want to keep doing it, today and tomorrow and maybe forever. Everything just feels right. It fits. Like you’re two sides of the same coin.” She laughed. “Oh Gods, I sound like a cheesy Valentine’s Day card.”
Jason snorted. “A bit. But thanks for trying. I think I might just be hopeless when it comes to this stuff.”
“You’ll figure it out. At least one of us has to,” Piper said, elbowing him gently. “It’ll probably get easier once we’re done constantly worrying about how the world might end in a month.”
“Yeah. Or maybe I’ll just be dead.” Jason bit his lip. “I hate this stupid prophecy. I don’t want to die. But I could never let it be Leo.”
There was something so determined in his expression that it scared her—like Jason had already decided how this was going to go, and the Fates should just try to lay a finger on Leo instead. Piper understood the sentiment—Leo was her best friend, and the thought of something happening to him just about killed her. But Jason was her friend, too, and she wasn’t any more okay with losing him than she was with losing Leo.
“Even if I’m right about the prophecy, we’ll find another way,” Piper said, trying to sound reassuring. They had to. It didn’t seem fair that a bunch of sixteen year olds would have to make that kind of choice. “Besides, you know how Leo is. Tell him he can’t do a thing and he’ll take it as a personal challenge. One time, back in Wilderness School, one of the other kids told him he couldn’t possibly eat fifteen Jell-O cups. Made himself sick for two days, but he ate twenty just to spite that person.”
There were few scenes from that time Piper remembered clearly, thanks to Hera’s Mist memories. Why this was one of them, she had no idea.
The corners of Jason’s mouth ticked up. “Yeah, when Leo sets his mind to something, he’ll do it, laws of the universe be damned. The Fates won’t know what hit them.”
Jason’s voice was soft and fond. He had an expression like he’d follow Leo to the moon if he asked—over a stupid story about Jell-O cups, of all things.
“You like him a lot, don’t you?”
“I mean, obviously.” Jason smiled softly. “Leo’s kind of the greatest person I’ve ever met.”
“Aw, you sap.” Piper elbowed him again. “Please don’t tell him that, though. I’m not sure he needs his ego even more inflated,” she joked.
Jason rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “It… might be a little too late for that.”
Piper raised one eyebrow. “What did you do?”
“I maybe told him that he was important, and that people with special gifts like his show up when they’re needed the most. Half a year ago, in the sewer.”
“Oh my gods.” Piper couldn’t help it. She burst out laughing. “That’s really sweet, don’t get me wrong, but I cannot believe I fell asleep early one time and you immediately started hitting on my best friend.”
“That’s not- I wasn’t-” Jason’s face turned crimson. “I didn’t say anything I didn’t mean.”
“I wasn’t saying you didn’t mean it.” She didn’t push him, no matter how much she wanted to point out that this was the most romantic thing she’d heard him say since they met. It would have been too much, too soon, even if they hadn’t had the prophecy hanging over their heads. “I am, however, saying that you are the corniest person I know. If I was boring enough to be genuine, I’d say Leo probably really appreciated it, though. He’s not the best at admitting when he’s having a hard time, and you saying sappy stuff like that is sometimes more helpful than me joking with him.”
“Good.” Jason’s shoulders slumped in something that looked like relief, and he gave her a tentative smile. “I’m glad. I’m sure he appreciates you joking with him just as much, though.”
And somehow, after all the breakup talk and the half-spoken truths about themselves and each other, this was almost easy.
Piper believed Jason when he said that it wasn’t about anyone in particular. That he was just confused and this didn’t feel the way it was supposed to.
She was also pretty sure she now knew something he didn’t.
~~~~~
It was the middle of the night by the time Jason left her cabin, and Piper was glad no one was around to witness it. Frank probably would have had a stroke. Coach Hedge would have promptly beaten them both up with his baseball bat before either of them got the chance to explain that they’d actually just needed some alone time to break up in peace.
Piper was still kind of shocked about how well things had gone. Despite the circumstances, it had been her and Jason’s first non-awkward solo conversation in what felt like forever. Go figure that breaking up would somehow make things less weird between them.
They hadn’t exactly decided what to tell the others, or when they would. Piper had joked that they could just wait for someone to awkwardly point out that they weren’t kissing anymore. With them all constantly trying not to die, their friend group really had more important things to worry about than the non-existent relationship drama between Piper and Jason.
Sure, it would probably take them a moment to figure out how to properly go back to being friends after they’d dated for months, but amicable as their breakup had been, they’d manage.
Piper really should have tried to sleep now, considering the fact that she was supposed to be on watch in the morning and it wouldn’t be great if she slept through that.
Instead, she sat at the edge of her bed and got out Katoptris. It hadn’t shown her any new visions since Rome. She’d been hoping to get confirmation Annabeth and Percy were alive, at first, but it vehemently refused. The only thing it bothered to show her now was a still. Every time she looked at the blade, the same stupid image of Reyna on her pegasus stared back, like the blade had gotten stuck on it somehow. Like someone had pressed pause on this exact frame and then decided to lose the remote.
Reyna looked exhausted. Her hair had come loose from her neat braid and was completely disheveled, but there was a grim determination in her eyes like she could handle anything. When Piper looked at her, she really, truly believed that.
She wanted to reach out and brush the stray strands of hair back behind Reyna’s ears. Maybe redo her braid, despite the fact that she wasn’t great at braiding and Reyna probably wouldn’t want her to even if she had been.
This was the part where usually, Piper’s brain would kick in and start trying to rationalize things away. Girls were objectively pretty. Piper admired Reyna. She needed to know the competition. She wanted to be friends with her. There were perfectly heterosexual reasons for why she wondered what her palms felt like and why she really needed to figure out how well Reyna’s jaw fit into her hands.
But it was three in the morning, and there wasn’t a Jason-shaped weight pressing down on her chest, and for the first time, Piper let the thoughts linger.
Some notes:
-My favorite interpretation of Jason and Piper’s relationship will always be one of them breaking up with the other because they figured out they’re queer and the other promptly going “oh thank the gods I thought it was just me”
-Split actually went down a lot like it did in the book, it didn’t change in any massive way, except afterwards Jason just kind of looked at Nico confused because “is that not a perfectly normal reaction to have to Percy Jackson” and Nico just kind of stared at him for ages. Jason is still sorting out a lot of stuff (it turns out getting your memories and entire sense of self ripped away from you will mess with you in some pretty severe ways. Who’d have thought). He does not have his feelings for Leo figured out even slightly. But he’ll get there. Once I feel more confident writing Nico I’d really like to do a little prequel fic about him and Jason bonding, but we’ll see how it goes.
-Piper trying to be heterosexual for all of HoO while describing Reyna in the most romantic terms imaginable and tenderly pressing her forehead to Annabeth’s is highly comedic to me. Piper doesn’t even know Reyna and I swear she’s on her mind more than she is on Jason’s, lol
-The way Piper’s visions dagger works in the series has no actual consistency and therefore if I want to use the plot convenience dagger for queer purposes I can and I will.
The Curse of Oenone (Leo Valdez xFem!Oc)
A/N: Currently on the road back home having a good time (hopefully bc i sure need it) -Danny Words: 1,952 Series' Masterlist Previous Chapter // Next Chapter
III: I Use The Power of Friendship (Goes Wrong)
Ara's glad to be left alone with the girls. Reyna is an old friend and Annabeth... well, she's like a sister.
As they leave the dining area, Ara remembers what a fun little girl Reyna used to be. Maybe they can find a way to build something, an alliance that will satisfy both sides. She must be careful, though, the last time Ara tried to be the voice of reason, it didn't end well, which brings her back to Nico.
Gods, she really hopes Lily doesn't know about his disappearance, she's got too much on her plate already.
"Come," Reyna gestures at the girls. "Walk with me."
Ara spent many years telling Nico that Camp Half-Blood was the best place for them, and technically, this place is for Romans, not Greeks, but still... Now she understands why Nico started to disobey her months into her leadership, he'd found New Rome, and he knew Ara was clueless.
How many times had she thought of Lily that way? Lily was too wary, and Ara was all about going big or going home. She'd forced her to participate in flashy plans just because they were easier. Now, standing in the middle of New Rome, witnessing what could be achieved with patience and careful planning, Ara couldn't blame Lily for being exasperated by Ara's approach.
"The harpy Ella..." Reyna says, bringing Ara back from her brooding. "It was a prophecy she spoke. We all know that, don't we?"
"It sounded like a prophecy," Annabeth agrees. "But I've never met Ella before today, and I've never heard those lines exactly."
"I have," Reyna sighs. "At least some of them—"
Argentum, Reyna's automaton dog, starts barking when some kids gather around to play with it. Leo hasn't seen Reyna's dogs yet, but Ara wants to take them onto the ship so he can take a look.
"You have a beautiful life," Ara says. "And you built it with hard work, I respect that."
"When we met, you were just an Aphrodite," Reyna smiles a little. "You don't sound like one now, but it shows."
"You should see her when she's with Leo," Annabeth quips.
Reyna turns to her with a raised eyebrow. "The scrawny boy with the curly hair?"
Ara knows what Reyna thinks because it's what most people think. It's what Lily said when she found out: Really? Him? Ara clears her throat. "Anyway..."
"We should move on," Reyna walks forward, and Ara appreciates it.
"We've also met before," Annabeth points out. "You were younger, right?"
"Very good. Percy didn't remember me. Of course you spoke mostly with my older sister Hylla, who is now queen of the Amazons. She left just this morning, before you arrived. At any rate, when we last met, I was a mere handmaiden in the house of Circe."
"We played tag," Ara tilts her head, trying to remember. "You said my teddy bag was cute and I gave you the bag of gummy bears I kept in it. You thought it was funny that I kept gummy bears inside my bear bag."
Reyna smiles openly and Ara feels comforted by it. This teenager had been like her once, a little girl with not much to offer, and her rank had sharpened her edges. Now, Ara is on her way to becoming Reyna, and she doesn't hate what she's seeing.
"Wait," Ara blinks, finally processing what the older girl said. "Your sister is the queen of what?"
Reyna chuckles. "You're a lot like Percy."
This catches Ara off guard. No one ever says that about her—not in a positive way, at least.
"This is my favorite spot," Reyna announces. "The Garden of Bacchus."
When Ara sees Baccus's statue she lets out a laugh. "You guys got a great involuntary sense of humor..."
Reyna hums. After a moment, she continues. "I wanted to hear it from you."
"Hear what?" Annabeth asks.
"The truth. Convince me that I'm not making a mistake by trusting you. Tell me about yourself. Tell me about Camp Half-Blood. Your friend Piper has sorcery in her words. I spent enough time with Circe to know charmspeak when I hear it. I can't trust what she says. And Jason... well, he has changed. He seems distant, no longer quite Roman."
Reyna raises a hand to stop Ara before she can argue.
"My dogs determined you're a reliable person, charmspeak and all. You have an honest heart, like your brother, but I brought you here and not him, because you probably know Camp Half-Blood way better than Percy nowadays."
If Ara weren't dating Leo, she'd be crushing on Reyna by now. If the girl keeps complimenting her, Ara's going to apply for Roman citizenship.
"Well," the girl shares a look with Annabeth. "Where do we start?"
"Guess what!" Nico bounces on his feet. "Something cool happened this morning!"
"You got to ride a pegasus?"
"No!"
"You convinced Percy to play Mythomagic?"
"Better!"
I look around, and that's when I realize my brother isn't by the fountain. He waits there for Annabeth and I before breakfast, even if we don't sit together. Now that our friend is missing, I'm expecting to see him staring at his reflection in the water, sulking or something, but he's not there.
I notice his cabin's door is wide open and my stomach drops. "Where is Percy?"
The young boy smirks. "I helped him sneak out so he could follow Bianca!"
I'm not very strong, but I pull Nico by the neck of his shirt until we're face to face. The sudden action causes him to yelp.
"Why didn't you wake me?" I whisper in panic.
"H-He told me not to! 'You look after my sister, I look after yours'—I thought it was fair!"
Percy calling me his sister even when I'm not around makes me giddy, but I'm also upset that he's decided to leave me behind without saying a word. It's the first time that he goes on a quest without me, and it stings.
Nico removes himself from my grip, looking guilty. "I wanted to go too, but Percy said I had to stay with you."
I realize I'm not Nico's mentor. I'm just an older version of Nico. We've been left behind by our siblings because they didn't think we were strong enough to keep up with them.
"Does Chiron know?"
"I won't tell on Percy," Nico stands proudly. "I promised I wouldn't."
His devotion to my brother confirms we're the same, so I wrap an arm around his shoulders and guide him to the Athena cabin.
"Alright," I sigh. "It's you and me... That isn't so bad! We'll be a great team. Come on, let's get Lily."
"If you go to the ancient lands, especially Rome itself, there is something you should know about your mother," Reyna mentions.
Annabeth steps back. "My—my mother?"
"When I lived on Circe's island, we had many visitors. Once, perhaps a year before you and Percy arrived, a young man washed ashore. He was half mad from thirst and heat. He'd been drifting at sea for days. His words didn't make much sense, but he said he was a son of Athena."
"What happened to this demigod?"
"Circe turned him into a guinea pig, of course. He made quite a crazy little rodent. But before that, he kept raving about his failed quest. He claimed that he'd gone to Rome, following the Mark of Athena."
Ara stares at her friend. Annabeth used to confide in her, and now they're both keeping their hands behind their backs, waiting for the other to give the first step. It feels wrong.
"Yes," Reyna continues. "He kept muttering about wisdom's child, the Mark of Athena, and the giants' bane standing pale and gold. The same lines Ella was just reciting. But you say that you've never heard them before today?"
"Not—not the way Ella said them." Annabeth's voice quivers. "Did this demigod—did he explain his quest?"
"At the time, I had no idea what he was talking about. Much later, when I became praetor of Camp Jupiter, I began to suspect."
"Suspect... what?"
Something explodes behind them, interrupting their conversation.
"Giants?" Annabeth looks around frantically. "I thought their army was defeated!"
"It isn't the giants," Reyna says tensely. "You've betrayed our trust."
"What? No!"
"Annabeth," Ara turns her around. "The ship!"
The girls run fast to reach the commotion. Ara searches in her pocket and seizes Almighty but she doesn't turn it into a sword yet, she has to try and de-escalate the situation first.
Jason and Piper are fighting side by side. Percy, Frank, and Hazel are all together. Only one person is missing.
"Leo!" Ara hurries to the Argo II. A group of demigods approaches her menacingly, and she uses charmspeak. "Drop your weapons!"
They obey her at once. Percy shouts her name, so Ara elbows the soldiers out of her way. She arrives at the same time as Annabeth.
"Girls!" Her brother scowls. "What—?"
"I don't know!" Annabeth exclaims mortified.
"I'll tell you what!" Octavian climbs down the rope ladder. "The Greeks have fired on us! Your boy Leo has trained his weapons on Rome!"
Ara rushes past the crowd again, dodging attacks from pretty much all around her.
"I was just there!" Octavian continues. "I saw it with my own eyes!"
The girl reaches the ladder and jumps, kicking Octavian out of her way. She climbs fast, yelling Leo's name hoping he'll answer. She finds him near the ballista, and he is shooting.
"Leo, stop!"
The girl doesn't use charmspeak at first, she never uses it on her loved ones, not since Nico. Besides, Leo usually stops when Ara tells him to, but not this time.
"Enough!" Ara grabs him and the boy stumbles back. She cups his face. "Leónidas!"
In his eyes, she sees a flash of something that reminds her of Luke. She moves away from him as soon as it happens. Ara decides to take the ammunition out from the ballista, and that's when the boy reacts. He yanks her back by the cloak, tossing her against the railing.
"Get out of the way," he says numbly.
Ara's on the ground when Percy and Annabeth reach the deck. Percy doesn't hesitate before attacking Leo, tackling him to the ground. Annabeth helps her up.
"What's wrong with him?"
"I don't know!" Ara gulps, her left side is pulsing. "He's acting weird!"
A dragon lands on deck and drops an unconscious Jason and a stressed-out Piper, then turns into Frank Zhang. Percy drags Leo away. "Girls, get us out of here!"
"Can you stand?" Annabeth asks worryingly.
"'Course I can..." Ara groans, struggling to reach the control board and typing away, then pulling the throttle steadily to glide higher.
The crew stumbles back thanks to the change in speed. Ara tells Annabeth to get her dino bag and then orders Percy to tie Leo to the main mast. She has to know what's going on with him before she can let him walk around freely.
"Thanks," she tells her brother once he's done. "Check on Jason, see if you can help Piper with him."
Percy frowns. "I'm not leaving you alone with—"
"That's an order, Percy!" Ara urges him, still pushing buttons and flipping switches.
She doesn't want to be rude, but if Leo wakes up and sees Percy's glare on him again, he's gonna freak out and it's going to make things harder for her. Annabeth returns with the T-Rex and Percy leaves, though he asks Frank and Annabeth to keep an eye on Leo.
Once she stabilizes the ship, Ara grabs her bag and pulls out her bottle of nectar. She crouches in front of Leo and tilts up his face to pour the liquid down his throat. Leo bends forward coughing and she pushes him back against the mast.
"Easy," she speaks gently. "Easy, Leo... what happened?"
"I... I was having a..." His eyes glide across the deck and realization hits him like a ton of bricks. It wasn't a nightmare.
"Leo," Annabeth crouches next to Ara, but she sounds way less chummy. "What is the last thing you remember?"
Hurt me with the truth
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/CdAinPF by ccoda Steve Rogers has not had an easy life. After leaving both his best friends behind in 1945, the world has moved on without him. Quickly rising to the ranks of Praetor, Steve embarks on a solo quest to save the Universe, at the cost of what just might be his life, his sanity, and his- quite frankly, broken heart. When a demigod named Tony Stark unapologetically bursts into his life by knocking him off his feet (literally) and takes the shape of one of the ghosts of his past, Steve is all too aware that their friendship might be their only chance for survival. Together, they go through an adventure and a half, fighting for their lives as they learn to trust each other and reach Alaska before their enemy can collect all six infinity stones and revert the Universe back to its original state. As dangers close in from all sides, Tony and Steve band together to fight the greatest evil they have ever faced: Chaos itself. What the Seven’s relationship should have been like
We didn’t get to see a lot of the seven bonding as it was more focused on the quest, which makes sense in the story. But, I feel like some relationships people had and everyone instantly being best friends doesn’t make sense. So here’s a web of what I think the relationship between each member of the seven should have been like, with explanation.
Key
Pink- Dating
Dotted Pink- Crush
Close Friends- Blue
Friends- Green
Civil- Grey
Distrustful- Orange
Percy + Annabeth - Dating
Okay, I feel like this seems kind of obvious so I’m not going to go into much detail, but there were five books that built up their relationship with each other. It’s a healthy relationship and they trust each other. I might explain this in detail later why I ship Percabeth and why it’s not toxic but I’m not going to right now.
Percy + Jason - Friends
Okay, the bromance stuff was completely made up by the fandom except I think for one time where they called each other “bro.” They also have sort-of a Greek-Roman rivalry going on, but after the fight in Kansa, they seem to ditch that except for a couple of jokes about them being able to beat the other in a fight.
Percy + Leo - Distrustful
I’m pretty sure (I haven’t reread HoO in a while) that Leo didn’t like Percy. But Percy definitely didn’t trust Leo after he bombed the Romans while he was possessed. He knows that Leo wasn’t in control, but it was very important to Percy that the Roman and Greeks got along, and Leo blew up the Roman camp.
Percy + Hazel - Friends
Okay so they definitely became friends in SoN when they were on a quest. I just don’t see them becoming really close friends like Percy is with Grover and Thalia? Like, I can see them as the type of friends that talk in school, but not the type of friends that would schedule days to hang out together unless it was for a project.
Percy + Frank - Friends
Basically same as Hazel and Percy. I love their friendship, but I can’t see them trying to figure out time to hang out between their schedules.
Percy + Piper - Close Friends
Okay, this is partially influenced by posts I saw about the potential for their friendship, but I definitely see a lot of potential for their friendship without headcanons and just reading the books.
Annabeth + Jason - Civil
So, in different circumstances, like a mortal au, I can see them being friends. But in the canon universe, her boyfriend disappears, Hera gives her a clue, she goes thinking Percy will be there, and it’s some Roman kid that’s supposed to be his replacement. I just don’t see them being able to get past that and actually be friends. I don’t think she would hate him or distrust him though, because he didn’t exactly have a say in it.
Annabeth + Leo - Friends
Okay, there was so much potential in this friendship and Rick just ignored it. Annabeth and Leo both like to build (Annabeth more so the planning part of it but still), they’re both extremely smart, and they’re also both dating people that are considered the hero of their respective camps. I just feel like we could have gotten a lot more interaction from them.
Annabeth + Hazel - Distrustful
Okay, so we’re going to start this from Annabeth’s point of view: your boyfriend goes missing for months, you go to find him, and he’s just chilling with some new Roman friends he found? He didn’t even tell you anything? Time for Hazel’s point of view because that’s all I have for Annabeth: There’s this boy that shows up at camp, he’s a son of Neptune and also your cousin. He has amnesia and doesn’t remember anything except for his girlfriend. If you hadn’t know what Percy and Annabeth’s relationship was like and how well they knew each other wouldn’t you find that a little suspicious. Also as Reyna mentions, Minerva (Athena’s Roman form) doesn’t have demigod children. It would probably be harder to trust a child of someone who isn’t supposed to have kids.
Annabeth + Piper - Close Friends
It’s implied that they’re pretty close friends in canon while they’re at Camp Half-Blood, and I love that, but it’s like the second they were on the Argo ll Rick completely forgot about that. I think they only interacted once or twice on the ship.
Annabeth + Frank - Distrustful
This is pretty much the same as Annabeth and Hazel’s but a little less distrustful. I see it as more distrustful at the beginning, but as time goes on they grow closer and maybe become friends.
Jason + Leo - Dating
I will die mad that this ship isn’t canon. It had much more potential than Piper and Jason, which seemed kind of forced. I think that this ship would definitely be better if Jason didn’t wake up on the bus already dating someone, and everyone had time to figure out their feelings.
Jason + Piper - Friends
I just don’t really feel like they worked together as a relationship. Hera literally forced it together when Jason woke up on the bus. If I was Rick Riordan (and I am very obviously not since I’m making this post), I would just not have made Piper and Jason wake up on the bus already dating. You need to give them time to figure out what they actually want to do and not shove them into a relationship on the first page.
Jason + Hazel - Friends
This is purely based on the fact that they’re both Roman and I’m assuming they talk at the Argo ll meet up parties that Percy mentioned. They get very little time to talk in the books (I don’t remember them talking at all) and they never mention each other. Hazel seems sad when he dies though so it’s kind of implied they were friends. (Am I still supposed to tag for spoilers for that?)
Jason + Frank - Friends
This is again based on the fact that they were both Roman and the fact that Jason promoted Frank to praetor in the middle of a fight. You probably don’t do that if you only kind of know the person, you need to build a relationship* with each other and trust each other.
Leo + Piper - Close Friends
Hmmmmmm, okay. They definitely knew each other before Jason just popped onto the bus, and they were definitely close (possibly dating?) But I see their relationship ship as more of a sibling relationship instead of romantic. 10/10 I love them though.
Leo + Hazel - Close Friends
Okay, so. Because Frazel isn’t happening in my mind, there isn’t any weird tension between them except for the Sammy thing. So, they figure that out and through that just become really good friends. I would also die for this friendship. That was underdeveloped because Rick rushed a love triangle.
Leo + Frank - Friends
Okay, no Frazel here still so there’s no weird tension between “are you trying to steal my girlfriend?” which was the main part of their relationship. Frank would definitely be wary of Leo because of his fire powers but Calypso gave him the fireproof fabric and he made the bag for Frank’s firewood so they definitely don’t hate each other.
Piper + Hazel - Friends
Okay, this just seems like a really neat friendship to me? They don’t interact that I can remember beside the visit with Aphrodite/Venus and they don’t really talk during that. There’s definitely a lot of potential for a friendship here though.**
Piper + Frank - Friends
Okay, I absolutely love the potential for this friendship. Again, it didn’t happen because Rick is a coward but I absolutely love this and they would be such good friends.
Hazel + Frank - Close Friends
Okay, so. I put two lines between them. ‘Crush’ and ‘close friends.’ No matter what’s going on, I feel like Hazel would have a crush on Frank. He obviously doesn’t like her back, because he is two years older than her. I know that people are saying Frazel isn’t problematic, and I somewhat agree, but I feel like if Hazel was aged-up a little it would be better. No matter what, they’re definitely going to be best friends though. And Hazel definitely still carries his firewood.***
*by ‘relationship’ when I mention it, I don’t always mean a romantic relationship.
**I do really want to put all of them as friends, but I just can’t see that happening, as they were seven demigods out on a ship and told to save the world. In a random group of seven people, there’s going to be at least one you don’t like.
***Another point I wanted to put on here but don’t know where to put it is that Rick forced them all into relationships. A lot of teenagers just don’t date anyone, and that doesn’t feel reflected at all in his books, as he just pairs every single character off with someone.
#I added footnotes cause I’m extra#my opinion#please don’t attack me#percy jackon and the olympians#heroes of olympus#trials of apollo#the burning maze spoilers#idk if I still have to tag that but just to be safe#percy jackson#annabeth chase#leo valdez#frank zhang#hazel levesque#piper mclean#jason grace#percabeth#valgrace#most relationships in the rioridanverse were too rushed#the seven#argo 2 crew#frienship#rr crit#kind of?????#I didn’t proofread this so there’s probably spelling and/or grammar mistakes#I mean no disrespect to people that do ship these ships though
Friendships in PJO (Part 1)
I know a lot of people talk about headcannons of the couples or ships and sometimes people forget some pretty great friendships in the books. These are headcannons of friendship that didn’t really happen but I think these would be pretty good friendships.
Trials of Apollo Spoilers
Also I’m ignoring Jason’s death because I don’t consider that cannon.
Percy and Piper
A lot of people talk about this pair and honestly these two would be such a good duo.
One night, Piper wakes up from a nightmare from the war. Jason was at Camp Jupiter so she went to go the Posiden Cabin. She knocks on the door and Percy answers. They both couldn’t sleep and start talking about there nightmares and they really bonded after that.
They would be such a sassy duo. Like both of them would not really listen to authority and pretty much piss of the Gods a lot.
They like to go skateboarding together and make stupid vlogs about all the tricks they would do or something stupid stuff like either of them falling. Afterwords they would get their nails done and this was mostly Percy’s idea, and sometimes when they go to a mortal salon, someone might give Percy a dirty look. Saying some excuse like “Oh he’s a boy, boy’s shouldn’t get there nails done that’s for girls”. Piper curses that person and is like “Bitch no!” Otherwise they go to the Aphordite cabin and those guys are chill and really don’t care, they like to make people feel beautiful or handsome.
They both go surfing togther too. Piper misses the beaches in California and Percy takes her to the closest beach near Camp Haft-Blood. They like surf and collect seashells by the beach. Percy likes to take Piper underwater using his water bubble thing and they see all the sea life and coral under there.
They watch “Dance Moms” or any drama show, and get so invested in all the drama.
Piper and Percy cuff there jeans and listen to Sweater Weather togther. They would blast it at full volume in the Posiden Cabin at 3:00am, singing it at the top of their lungs. Sometimes Leo joins them (those three are all bisexual, no one can convice me otherwise). They like to go to Pride together with other LGBTQ+ campers and they both paint small bi flags on there cheeks.
They also help each other set up dates for Jason or Annabeth, during anniversary’s or just dates in general.
They both would really support each other in anything and have a very chaotic friendship full of teasing and so much sass.
Jason and Frank
At first Frank never really knew Jason. Jason was missing for a while and let’s face it, at Camp Jupiter, Jason was talked about like a hero. To Frank he was important and once he met Jason, he was a normal guy. During Argo ll, they never really got to know each other since they were saving the world from LITERAL MOTHER EARTH
After the war, the Romans were going back to there Camp meaning Reyna, Frank, and Hazel were leaving soon. Jason had to go, to bring his stuff and move to Camp Haft-Blood and teach Frank about being a Praetor. During there few lessons, they became close and got to know each other.
Anytime Jason gets stressed, Frank turns into a kitten and calms him down. When Frank gets stress from being a praetor, Jason tells him to rest and take a break.
They love to watch cheesy Rom-coms and Disney Channel Original movie and either laugh about stupid it is or cry of how sincere it is.
They like to train together and honestly they are both the moms of the demigod friend group (The Seven + Nico and Reyna) They plan hangouts for there friends.
There really just a nice, chill duo who hangs out and just have fun.
Rachel and Hazel
Hazel and Rachel never properly met. Mostly because Hazel is Roman and at this point Rachel is just Greek like everyone just considers her a Greek. One day, Hazel came to visit CBH, to see her friends and Nico.
Chrion asks if she would like to help Rachel out repainting the Camp’s van and making it more different and less boring. She agrees and properly meets Rachel. At first Hazel is sort of scared because Rachel is the Oracle but once she gets to know her, she’s really just a goofy, fun-loving person and they really hit it off.
They like to paint or draw together and just talk. Sometimes Hazel would be Rachel’s muse or Rachel would be Hazel’s muse. Rachel would also go on art rants and Hazel’s a pretty good listener, so she listen’s even though sometimes she has no idea what Rachel’s talking about.
Rachel introduces Hazel to Disney which she got hooked on. They like to have Disney marathons in Rachel’s cave and will spend hours watching Disney.
Rachel also helps Hazel navigate the mordern world and technogly. Hazel also taught Rachel how to ride a horse.
Rachel is pretty adventurous which Hazel loves and they try new things every time they visit each other.
They were overall a very fun loving pair of friends who are artisy and obsessed with Disney.
Nico and Leo
I know a lot of people ship Valangelo, I love these two but I personally see them as a really great friendship. Sorry to Valangelo shippers but here’s there friendship.
At first Nico and Leo hate each other. Nico just finds Leo annoying and Leo just thinks of Nico as the creepy Hades kid. After hanging out a lot more since there in the same group of friends, they become closer.
If Nico ever feels sad, Leo would always cheer him up with a dumb joke which surprisingly makes him laugh. Anytime Leo is sad, Nico will attempt to make a joke and Leo would look surprised and yell across the room “Hey guys, Nico made a joke!”
When Leo overworks himself, Nico will go to Bunker Nine and brings him a Happy Meal. Leo takes a break and they both play Mythomagic, which Nico got back into.
Leo built them motorcycles and they like to race around the woods with them, Calypso and Will would be cheering on the sidelines being supportive.
Leo introduces him to Pop Culture a lot more and even gives him (and Hazel) lessons on what’s been going on in the world and how it’s changed since the 40s
During the days when Bianca and Esperanza died, most of there friends and campers would leave them alone execpt there significant others (or annoyance in Will’s case) and each other. Nico and Leo both empathize with each other because Esperanza and Bianca were there rocks and there only family (besides the gods but there not really around)
Overall, they would be the Keith and Lance duo. Leo being the more jokey one and Nico being the more tough and cynical one. Its one of the more unexpected friendships.
Reyna and Annabeth
Reyna and Annabeth never were really friends at first because of the whole Greek and Roman war going on and once Reyna helped them, the seven had to go stop Gaea and she had to go deliver the statue to Camp Haft-Blood.
After the war, the Romans and Greeks became friends, Reyna and Annabeth made a peace treaty/alliance togther. They became pretty good friends after that.
Annabeth helps Reyna make renovations to New Rome and Camp Jupiter. Reyna helps with a few new battle plans for Camp Haft-Blood so there a lot more prepared for another war or battle.
If either of them are stressed, they will play Minecraft or Animal Crossing online. Like they both have those gaming headsets and will go online for each other.
When they visit each other, they go to a small, quiet coffee shop and get coffee or pastries and just chill and catch up with each other. Afterwords, they go to Centeral Park or a park in California and have a walk.
Annabeth introduced Reyna to Harry Potter. They both finished the movies in like a week and the books take them longer because of there dyslexia but Reyna fell in love. Reyna takes the Pottermore quiz and gets Gryffindor. Annabeth and Reyna are that iconic Slytherin and Gryffindor team.
Once Reyna becomes a hunter, Annabeth, Reyna, and Thalia all go hunting together. I feel like all three of them have completions of who can hunt the most. Sometimes Annabeth will tag along with the hunters and go camping. Artemis is fine with it because she likes Annabeth.
They would be that badass duo that you don’t mess with or else they won’t hesitate to snap your neck.
More PJO headcanons
Once Annabeth was really tired and she saw a spider in her cabin. She killed it with Lysol. Her sibling still have no idea that happened and are/were confused why the cabin smelled like chemicals
Bast definetly had issues with Anubis, a 5 thousand were old, dating Sadie, a 13 year old
If a camper is curious what a pegasus is saying, they’ll ask Percy to translate. If the pegasus swore, then Percy will do his best to censor the translation (depends on campers age)
Every year, on Jason’s birthday, Piper and Leo go to his grave to put Jason’s favourite flower down with a poem and some updates on either life or their friends
The 7 (plus Nico and Reyna) really like Sally’s cooking/baking
Percy once hid some blue cookies his mom made from his friends, jsut so the cookies wouldn’t be gone in 60 minutes or less
Piper crochets on her free-time
Piper once gave Annabeth a crocheted bee because she felt like it
Drew likes plants
Will likes brownies
A camper once gave Rachel more paint and a canvas either for her birthday or because they thought it’d make a good start to friendship
At least one camper is intimidated by Rachel since she’s the oracle
Leo tried to bake a chocolate cake once, it ended up tasting like pure vanilla since he misread ‘a cap of vanilla extract’ as ‘a cup of vanillia extract’
Despite Hunter’s last words to Flap being an angry order, I’m gonna say Flapjack knew it wasn’t really Hunter saying it.
PJO Headcanon(s?):
Annabeth’s near sighted
Percy makes the best hot chocolate
For some unknown reason (even to her) Annabeth always smells like coffee
Leo’s allergic to peanuts
Piper had to have braces
Jason once lost his weapon so he resorted to biting the monster (raised by wolves)
When children of Zeus/Jupiter are a bit upset, a mini personal storm cloud appears above their head
Nico often has to remind Will to take a break once in a while
Will has a southern accent that usually comes out when he’s feeling a strong emotion
Either Nico, WIll, or Leo accidentally taught a younger camper how to swear and just went: It’s their sibling’s problem now
Piper bakes on her freetime
Will bakes when stressed
Nico bakes when tense
Percy bakes whenever
Annabeth doesn’t like baking too much but will if she wants.
For a drabble prompt could you do 5.”Don’t yell at me like I’m a child!”-“DONT THROW SCISSORS!”for Percico please?😊💖
Advent Calendar: Day 5
“For fuck’s sake, watch out, Percy!”
“Don’t yell at me like I’m a child!”, countered Percy frustrated.
“DONT THROW SCISSORS!”, exclaimed Nico agitated.
“Woah there. How about you both take a step back and calm down…?”, suggested Leo.
The son of Hephaestus stood awkwardly in the doorway to Percy’s room, watching them doubtfully. Leo and Percy had moved in together when they had moved to New Rome for college and had soon enough formed a close friendship with each other.
“I didn’t mean to throw the scissors at you”, offered Percy softly after a moment. “I just… I just got frustrated, I guess. Why does this not fit together?!”
Groaning, Percy sprawled out on the floor. With a sigh did Nico collapse right next to Percy and turned onto his side to look at the son of Poseidon.
“I don’t know. But we’ve been at it for three hours now”, sighed Nico.
“Right. And neither of you figured to just… ask your local tinkerer to help you build whatever the heck it is you two are trying to build there?”, asked Leo pointedly at that.
For a moment, Nico and Percy just stared at each other, before Percy lifted one arm. “In our defense… we didn’t know you were home…”
“Yeah, I thought you were at my place, annoying my sister”, agreed Nico. “That’s usually what happens whenever I leave the apartment. You and Frank come sneaking in.”
When Nico had moved to New Rome, he had moved in with his sister. Frank all the while was still the current praetor and thus living in the praetors’ mansion together with Reyna. So whenever Leo left the apartment, Nico liked to go and spend some alone time with Percy, while whenever Nico left, Leo and Frank found their way to Hazel.
“Well, Frank has a meeting and Hazel said she has to study”, grumbled Leo.
“Ah. That explains that”, nodded Percy amused. “So—o, you wanna help us, oh great tinkerer?”
“Sure. What are we building?”, asked Leo eagerly and got his tool-belt.
“Uhm. A rocking horse…”, admitted Percy with a blush.
“…That’s not hard. How are you-”, started Leo doubtfully.
Nico glared at him so hard that Leo immediately shut up. Instead, Leo went to work on the rocking horse. Which was actually a rocking hippocampus. All blue and with a fish-tail.
“Aw, that’s cute. Laura is gonna love this”, grinned Leo as he started working.
“I hope so. It’s her first Christmas and I just wanted to get her a really great present”, replied Percy.
Nico smiled gently at his boyfriend and cupped Percy’s cheek to bring him close so he could properly kiss him. Percy was still so excited about his baby sister and he tended to hover a little, buying her a lot of stuffed toys and other cute things that reminded him of her. Nico knew that one day, years down the line, Percy would make an excellent father.
“It’s nice that your mom invited us for Christmas too”, said Leo softly after a while.
“You’re my roommate, a heartbreakingly adorable orphan and also the steady boyfriend of Nico’s sister. And since Nico and Hazel only have each other, of course did mom invite them both and not just my boyfriend”, offered Percy matter-of-factly. “And leaving Frank home alone would just be sad. Especially since Ty insists we’re brothers too, because distant legacy didn’t cut it.”
“You could have just said ‘Yeah, my mom is awesome’ for short”, teased Leo. “A—and done.”
“Done? What the… Valdez, we have been at this for hours!”, grunted Nico.
Both he and Percy stared at the perfect rocking horse while Leo just grinned broadly.
/break\
Laura was giggling happily, the stuffed hippocampus she had gotten from Tyson tucked under her arm as she patted the rocking hippocampus. Honestly, her whole bedroom had a distinct ocean-theme by now but Paul had gotten used to it. He smiled as he leaned over to kiss his wife. Sally was in the middle of a conversation with Hazel and Ella, who had tagged along with her boyfriend. Tyson was sitting on the floor with Laura, excitedly talking to Percy and Leo, though Percy was rather distracted by Nico who had his arms tightly wrapped around his waist and his chin resting on Percy’s shoulder, kissing his neck every now and again. Leaving the rest of their family to it, he returned to his chess-game with Frank. Their family was loud and large by now, but definitely good.
“Who is the best little sister on the whole planet?”, cooed Percy softly, kissing Laura’s cheek.
“Me. That must be me!”, chimed Hazel with a bright smile. “Right, brother?”
Nico opened and closed his mouth a couple of times. “Don’t do this to me. Don’t put me between the love of my life and my sister. That is just… unfair.”
“Love of your life?”, echoed Frank with a teasing grin, just to earn a glare and shut up.
“When they get married, I get to be best man”, stated Tyson proudly.
“Ella wants to be the flower girl”, hummed Ella and tilted her head, tickling Laura with her feathers.
Laura giggled, trying to grab Ella’s wing but not being fast enough. Everyone smiled as they watched the little girl’s excitement at her first Christmas and at having her family all here.
“Let’s not plan our wedding before we’re even engaged”, muttered Nico embarrassed, blushing.
Percy smiled pleased and leaned back, tilting his head to kiss Nico’s cheek. “That train’s left the station months ago. I’m pretty sure the entire Aphrodite Cabin has like a whole 3D model of what our wedding is going to look like, decked out with seating arrangements and menus.”
“They do. Pipes showed me before”, confirmed Leo with a broad grin.
Huffing, Nico buried his face in Percy’s neck in mild embarrassment. He knew that, somewhere deep down. The love-life of Percy Jackson was the most interesting gossip for the Aphrodite Cabin and ever since Nico and Percy had been going steady, there were even more rumors and all.
“You’re so cute when you’re flustered, big bad Ghost King”, whispered Percy teasingly.
“Shut up, Sea Prince”, warned Nico annoyed. “Or I’ll keep your present for myself.”
Percy gasped dramatically, making Nico smile softly and kiss him.
His Blood Runs Gold III
Percy is a God: Part III
Here’s my masterlist for the next part and my other stuff
------------------------------------------------------------------
they made you into a weapon
and told you to find peace.
They travelled for hours by the light of the moon. Conversation was sparse and restricted to the quest, made clear only by Jason’s refusal to answer anything beyond that.
“I don’t know how long to follow the star for,” The demigod was mumbling, staring into the skies.
“Leave it to a prophecy to be as vague as possible.”
“Can’t you use your godly-hood to help?”
“You know it doesn’t work like that.” Percy frowned.
“Yea I know but it was worth the shot,” Jason sighed.
“What do the arrows look like?”
“Hah, you should know the lovely divine would never tell us such helpful details.”
He laughed, “I remember frantically searching for Zeus’ lightning bolt on my first quest. We didn’t know how it would appear and then suddenly it was in my backpack while we faced the God of the Underworld. Fear had never tasted so deadly before.”
“Tell me about it. Trying to slay that damn Trojan monster felt like a one-way ticket to the end of the road.”
Percy shuddered as moments from various quests reeled through his mind.
“Guess nothing much changes, hey?” Jason huffed. “I’m still going on fatal quests for spoiled Gods.”
“At least this time you have one of those Gods by your side,” He joked
“Are you admitting that you’re spoilt?”
“Am I?”
“I don’t know Percy Jackson, are you?”
He turned his head, to see blue eyes piercing into him. “This is a pointless conversation.”
Jason mumbled something under his breath before turning forward again.
“What have you been doing these last years?”
“I’m sure Reyna has kept you updated.” The bite in those words tore at Percy’s gut.
“She just told me you were volunteering for every quest or burying yourself in camp activities.”
“Yea well it’s a good distraction from the flaming pool of horror that is my life.”
“What?”
Ignoring the question, the blonde gestured to the land below them, “You think you can use your godliness to find the arrows, so I don’t have to do this?”
“If I knew I would have gone to get them myself.”
“Well what’s the point then?” Lightning flickered in those eyes.
“What’s the point of… me?”
“Yes.” Jason glared, “What is the point of you Percy?”
“You asked me to protect you?”
“I asked you,” The demigod gritted, “To guide me.”
Percy swallowed the snap of pain, “What was the prophecy?”
Jason gave him a look, but recited the words:
Go north and follow the brightest star
Retrieve the arrow of foe but gain a scar
When you move on to the land of old
Find what you seek in a heart of gold
Indeed Son of Jupiter and Child of Greece
When this is over you will find peace
“That actually seems nice. It says you’ll find peace.”
“When does the prophecy ever say something it actually means?”
“Well I don’t know what else that could mean?” He frowned, confused.
“It probably, most definitely means I’m gonna die, but fuck it right? There’s not much to live for these days anyway.”
“Jason what are you talking about? This isn’t like you at all.”
“Yea well I stopped being like me three years ago when my best friend faked his death, and my other best friend left me to become a god, and my girlfriend admitted she didn’t ‘love me that way’ and she ‘needed space’,”
Percy reeled back in shock as blow after blow was delivered.
“So I’m sorry I’m not really ‘up to life’ these days. Forgive me.”
“Why didn’t you ever tell me any of this?” He asked softly, willing Zarya to move forward.
“How could I have told you I was breaking apart when you were finally starting to stitch yourself back together? You had just become a God, and you and Annabeth were so– so happy.” Bitter was a horrid taste.
The Son of Jupiter turned to face the God once more, “You guys were even going to therapy together. You seemed care-free for once and I didn’t want to ruin that. It just seemed better to drift away, to keep myself.” Tears pooled and spilled over golden cheeks.
“Oh Jase,” Percy whispered, and with half a gallop the demigod was in his arms.
“I can’t believe you’ve felt so alone all this time. I’m sorry you thought you couldn’t come to me. I– I should have been a better friend.”
At this the sobs increased, wracking his whole body.
It may have been seconds, or minutes, or hours while the two sat on their mounts, embracing each other, pulling themselves together.
When they broke apart, it was Jason who gave a watery smile, “Thank you.”
“I missed you Grace.”
“I missed you too Jackson.”
And as the sun came up the half-blood and the God used those rays of light to fill in the cracks of their friendship.
When Jason lolled forward in exhaustion Percy picked him up and with a nod to Tempest and Zarya, descended to the earth once more.
From what he could tell they were still in the North Atlantic Ocean but fast heading towards the South. If he had to guess, they would reach the equator within another night’s travel and Polaris– the North Star– would disappear.
If his hunch was correct, they would find Eros’ arrow at the place that separates the earth’s hemispheres; and the half-blood in his arms, who was born for the skies might dismay that it rests between the African and South American coasts. Percy would think on it all tomorrow. For now, he formed a bubble around Jason and dropped him into the sea before diving after him.
He didn’t need to rest really, not anymore, so he kept watch as his friend slept. He spent the time talking to the creatures that passed; helped a little seal who had got caught in a fishermen’s net, and munched on some ambrosia. It was weird to not have to monitor how much of the godly food he was eating– weird that the burning sensation after eating more than one small piece didn’t race up his throat.
He didn’t have to eat as much unless he was expending power. He supposed it was convenient that he really only needed these golden squares to survive, but he missed gorging himself on cheeseburgers after a fight and washing everything down with coke.
With a sigh, he tucked the rest of the ambrosia into the folds of the waves, and watched as it disappeared. He knew it floated in the between, waiting to be summoned once more, as with everything he had but didn’t need. It reminded him of the tool-belt Leo Valdez wore.
Percy smiled softly as he remembered his reunion with Leo. The demigod had knocked on the door of Sally’s apartment, Calypso in tow, and demanded to know why Percy hadn’t been at camp-half blood or SPQR for almost six months. When his mom had explained that he was a god Leo had burst into flames because he was so excited. Percy popped in just in time, pulling water from the kitchen taps and dousing the demigod and the plants that had caught alight. After a long and bruising hug, the two had talked for hours.
He was surprised to find that seeing Calypso again wasn’t awkward. In fact, after they had gotten teary catch-ups and soft squeezes out the way, her and Sally had disappeared to the garden leaving him and Leo to tackle the enchiladas his mom had been making for lunch.
Over the next years Percy often found himself walking into his mom’s house only to see Leo, and most times Calypso, sitting around the kitchen table or on the couch playing with Estelle. Sally had practically adopted the two, claiming that having Leo around reminded her of Percy when he was young- so full of buzzing energy and always busy, busy, busy with his hands. Paul, who by now could see through the mist relatively well, was fascinated by Leo’s power and Calypso’s extensive knowledge of history so he was happy to have them there too.
It was entirely ludicrous that fire and water could become such good friends but there was something about Leo that made Percy feel energized, awake, alive. in the rare moments that Percy had more than a few days on his hands, the two would get lost in video games, egging each other one, and creating general chaos in his mom’s house. It helped that the demigod made a mean plate of tacos and used his power to make the cheese all melty.
He was grateful, beyond grateful, that he had found someone who reminded him of his old life. Who kept him tied to the fun, child-like wonder he had so long possessed. He feared if he ever lost that, he would truly be a spoilt god indeed.
Pulling himself from his memories he turned to check on Jason and sighed softly at the peaceful look in the half-blood’s face. It was times like this, when he was surrounded by sea with only his thoughts to keep him company, that he felt most godly; strange he knew. But something about currents matched the constant push and pull of his mind. He became more ocean than being.
So Percy Jackson, God of protection and guidance, floated in the blue Atlantic waters and waited for his protégé to rest.
