𓆩♡𓆪 APPEARANCE (i'm bad at describing since i rely on memory + drawings) ↳ human — a heavy set, tan male with fluffy dark brown hair — dark olive green eyes, very tired looking/relaxed — long scar going down his right eye — low maintenance: retains a short beard, chest/body hair, arm hair, leg hair, etc. he's just a very hairy dude. — calloused hands, very work-worn — back scars from past; mostly healed over but still prominent in sight and touch — ear piercings on his right ear — nipple piercings, usually horseshoe shaped (got them when he still was under human ownership and still keeps them on as a reminder) ↳ partial transformation — relatively the same, height becomes slightly taller by a few inches — horns grow in; pale ivory in color and smooth to the touch — lower canines grow out; left canine is slightly chipped — tail grows back, still able to be hidden in his pants — slight more hairier — nails on hands start turning black (hoof color) ↳ minotaur — head turns into a complete bull/cow head; brown fur, floppy ears, horns + canines grow all out to max size — legs turn into bull/cow legs, feet turn into hooves — torso + arms stay relatively human in appearance — height is at full standing length — long tail is fully grown out — has to wear a loincloth due to having no clothes at this size — considered to be an "abnormal" minotaur due to his underbite/outgrown canines and his tail (he's seen depictions of his species and he believes he's abnormal)

𓆩♡𓆪 PERSONALITY (i'm also really bad at explaining this lmfao) ↳ achelous considers himself a rather isolated man. once scorned and feared by mankind, and used for his immense strength prior to the creation/reliance to machinery, achelous shares no fondness for them at all. most of these feelings hasn't changed even a little as the years went on, and he continues to try and keep contact with the townspeople at a minimum. he's not unnecessarily or outright violent towards the ~30k town population in particular as they're rather peaceful, but when it comes to city folk or outside tourists, his somewhat calm demeanor changes drastically towards them.

↳ achelous believes that he is a cruel monster, but the townspeople do not think the same. they genuinely believe that he's rather a sweet gentleman, seeing that he's a big softie towards the children and the elderly. he's actually more indifferent and hostile to adult men and women, having the belief that they are the cruelest when humans are in their 20s-60s.

↳ achelous is a particular rule follower, especially on his ranch. break his rules, he'll break you until you follow them correctly.

↳ he's stoic and straight to the point, there will never be a day where he sugarcoats his words. lying to him is similar to breaking the rules, so he's not fond of not being honest.

↳ achelous has a pretty even temperament unless there's a rule breaker, annoying human from the city/outside, or brats. his punishments are down right cruel, and that's coming from someone that had personally experienced the worst from humanity.

↳ achelous can have his flirty moments, but only if he's wasted from the alcohol he makes since normal alcohol isn't strong enough. his attempts are rather poor due to his lack of socializing and picking up cues, so he normally comes off as sleazy with an ego, but he's really trying his best.

↳ though it may not seem like it most of the time, achelous is rather possessive and protective over the one he loves. he has pretty conservative views when it comes to having a family, believing that the man must provide for the woman while the woman takes care of the kids and the home. his cruel words and actions make it so his love stays (as that's the only form of affection he learned how to portray), and his last resort is usually harming/threatening/killing the one closest to his love.

↳ achelous is a good convincer, it's why his products are usually sought after in the farmer's market every sunday. it's technically not lying when what he says and believes is true.

↳ of course, achelous prefers not to socialize unless it's absolutely necessary, but he's so good at fixing things and helping others out accidentally that he's constantly requested around for his assistance. he doesn't really want to do it, but if it gets them off his back and property, he will.

↳ achelous is hard-working, he hates bad/lazy workers and prefers to do things his own way. that's why there's no other farmhands/workers besides him, not including his obvious distaste for humans. from 5:30 am to 7:30 pm, he follows his routine to a tee every day. sundays are his breaks, even if he technically doesn't really need it.

↳ he's the most fatherly out of all my posted ocs, probably due to the face that he's the one that's completely determined and decently stable enough to start a family. achelous has also been waiting for the same species as him, but since he never seen another minotaur for most of his life, his patience is growing thin and he may have to take to a human mate the longer he waits.

↳ achelous has extreme guilt/shame over his true form, it's why he managed to find a witch to help him appear more human (ironic isn't it). to him, it's a protectant from being even more outcasted, despite his consistent insistence to be left alone. his partial/full transformation only comes out when his emotions become extremely high (mostly out of anger, but can come out in states of high arousal). he has quite the steady composure, and is very in-tune with his emotions, giving him that needed control.

𓆩♡𓆪 ABILITIES ↳ extreme strength — can lift up multiple logs or hay bales without struggle — occasionally lifts up his animals to make sure they're right where they need to be ↳ intelligence/experience — due to his long-lived life and the experiences he's gone through, he's rather quickly decisive on what to do/say — this unfortunately makes him the "i-told-you-so"/"this-is-what-you-get" type ↳ heightened senses — minotaurs have near perfect vision and heightened senses (taste and scent especially) — due to this, achelous has quick reflexes and reacts to situations accordingly. this can also make him vulnerable to extremely strong smells or sudden bright lights. ↳ endurance/speed — achelous rarely or doesn't even get tired, sometimes his daily routine gets finished earlier if he's at the top of his game. he merely fakes exhaustion to look less suspicious to the townspeople, that's the only time he lies to them since it's for his protection. — due to his species type, he's rather quick on his feet. not as much as normal minotaurs (if there are) due to his heftier build.

𓆩♡𓆪 BACKGROUND ↳ around the start of the roman empire years, achelous was born to a lower class family. to their horror, he was born with a calf's head and legs, believing that their gods have spited them even more. rather than killing him to be done with it, they chose to sell their newborn to a higher status family, seeing that he'd be used for their entertainment. there was never such a creature as him, only passing legends and stories, no one truly thought that a minotaur could possibly exist. they were paid a good sum, and achelous' fate was finally sealed. as he grew up, he was tormented with their mockery, forced to work in the fields from day to night with no breaks. achelous was the face of jokes and laughs during their lavish parties, food constantly thrown at his face and being tossed about for their amusement. this so-called family of his abused the poor minotaur, making sure that he knew his place and how disgusting he was to everyone around. even as they dragged him around publicly, he was forced to wear a hood and cloak, but his size was impossible to hide and the people around would tear at his disguise to taunt jeers at him, constantly leaving him filthy and bloody at the end of the day. it's strange though. no matter how much he was hit, how many wounds they left on his back, achelous never fought back. he himself never knew why, even to this day.

↳ as the empire finally fell apart, achelous managed to finally escape, not without burning the house down and making sure he saw his abusers' faces contort as they burned alive while he ran off. hiding in a boat traveling to where england is now, he stayed there for years underneath the docks, surviving on whatever he was able to find, until he heard word of travel to "india" and managed to sneak onto the next boat going there. once he reached the americas, he traveled further into the south, around where mississippi, tennessee, alabama, and georgia is currently located. achelous finally found the freedom is wanted for so long, finally building his own home and farm, ensuring that no other human may make their way on his land.

↳ this peace didn't last long, well, to him at least it didn't. at this time, he had previously sought out a witch that was able to alter his appearance semi-permanently, so long as he didn't lose control of himself. achelous now is roughly 2000 years old, and a town had begun to be built nearby his ranch. winterborough, from what he's heard from others as he sold his products at the market, a new town for new beginnings. he didn't care, so long as they didn't bother him or figure out he lived there. they figured it out. the first group of townspeople decided to greet him, since they're the ones sorta causing a disturbance as the homes and buildings were still being constructed. to achelous' surprise, they were kind, offering him gifts and words of praise about the work he's done for himself. he's... he's never experience this before, he could tell that they were being genuine from their smiles and expressions. hm... maybe these humans weren't so bad. as the years went on, they never quite questioned his origins or why it seems that he never quite ages the same as them, achelous brought them a good amount of financial stability in their small town and he was overall just a great guy, even if he was a little antisocial.

↳ achelous is still not openly fond of humankind in general, but he is rather protective over winterborough and its residents. it had grown into a place where he thought of as a warm home, minus his ranch. he actually knows everyone by name, who's family member belongs to which; achelous cares deeply, even if he doesn't show it. the townspeople all know him as well, they like to say that he's their guardian (which is mostly right since there's barely any crime in their town). they all adore and deeply trust achelous for what he has done for them, but they still don't know his true nature, his true form. all in all, the townspeople and achelous' relationship towards one another is symbiotic.

𓆩♡𓆪 OTHER INFO ↳ achelous shows up to every town event, to everyone's surprise. they know he's not really fond of interacting with everyone, but his intentions are to ensure that the tourists/city folk isn't causing any trouble for them. he hates crowds, but he hates newcomers even more.

↳ the town only knows him as louis bellock, achelous thinks they don't have the ability to pronounce his actual name, so he lets them call him louis. bellock was made up on the spot when he was asked.

↳ when the first townspeople met achelous, he was a complete rugged mess. all his hair was completely outgrown, his clothes were mostly in rags, and he kinda smelled like dirt and grass. he was pretty frightening as a first appearance, and they also kinda assumed he was a squatter before he clarified that he was the owner of the ranch. it was then achelous decided he had to keep a decent appearance.

↳ his voice is on the lower octave, very gruff and rough. achelous almost has a complete southern accent, but still has hints of a greek/roman one that occasionally slips out. he's also very blunt sounding, almost as if he's bored or very uninterested with a conversation, and he'll usually only talk in a few words or less if possible. sometimes it'll come out scratchy or crackly if he hasn't spoke in a while.

↳ achelous owns 2 kangal shepherd dogs and 2 bernese mountain dogs, they're all male. — agre (kangal) — hyrcanus (kangal) — nebrophonos (bernese) — ichnobates (bernese)

↳ achelous had to teach himself how to read and write, and thanks to the library and this new-fangle internet, he managed to learn much quicker. his penmanship isn't the best, but it's still legible.

↳ achelous's sexual orientation can be considered to be aroace since he never met anyone like him and most humans disgust him anyways. however, due to his conservative values, he's more interested with the female gender. he's also kinda still a virgin, due to the fact that he literally has no experience with romance/sex in general.

↳ achelous is skilled at the guitar (he had years to learn and perfect it), and he'll often play it deep into the night in front of the fireplace.

Reintroduction/Update

Hello everyone! Probably too late to do an intro, given that I've been writing on this blog since 2017, but since I've returned after a few years away from writing, I wanted the opportunity to talk about my blog and projects completed and my upcoming plans!

I go by Avaleon everywhere else on the internet, but respond to pretty much anything, including Screaming, hey you, etc! Started this blog in my mid 20s, and aged normally into the early 30s from there. I love writing, have always loved it, but between work and life, it's definitely something that I mostly do late at night and on weekends. I love hearing from people, but I usually answer asks in bunches, and typically right before I post writing. Love hearing about other people's projects as well!

I write short stories, novellas, and occasional full length novels. I am not published, but actively working on self-publishing some of my full length works. Everything I write is posted online, I enjoy sharing my work. The main reason to self publish for me is to have physical copies for myself or anyone who might want one!

bookinit’s byler fic recs

happy new years! to celebrate, i’m posting a list of some of my favorite fics of this year, sorted by word count. i tried not to include a bunch of super well-known, commonly-recced fics, and of course, there are SO many more that i didn’t include just because there isn’t enough time in the world. but i really wanted to lift up some amazing authors, my friends included, as well as some more underground fics. happy reading!!🥳

my top byler fics of 2022

1 - 10k

- it’s a choice (getting swept away) by @wiseatom. i just skimmed this again to see if i wanted to include it, and even just SKIMMING, i was having goddamn heart palpitations. there is something so special about healthy communication and resolving misunderstandings with emotional intelligence and kindness instead of anger. don’t get me wrong, big dramatic blowups are lots of fun to read, but this one stands out for how quiet it is. how gentle. not only is the willel done FANTASTICALLY, but byler here is so soft and tentative, and i was eating up every minute of it. as always, with thea, a phenomenal read. (categories: post s4, mileven breakup, painting conversation, getting together, willel)

- the body is a blade by inblue. this author is severely underrated—incredible prose, such unique fics, and so much genuine emotion in such a short space. i sincerely recommend all of their works!! phenomenal, and despite their short length, they’ve stuck with me since i read them—this one in particular. (categories: poetic, unique, character study, will byers needs a hug)

10 - 20k

- i’m caught up in you by @wiseatom. the first half of this is genuinely novel-worthy—beautifully written & crafted, to the point where i couldn’t stop writing down sentences as inspiration. the second half kicks you into an apocalyptic adventure, filled with byler banter, miscommunication, wound tending, a Painting Debacle™️, and literally everything you could want out of byler in the upside down. thea’s byler is SO much fun to read—they absolutely are best friends, and they don’t let you forget it! the banter is so realistic and snarky and fun, and i’ve read this a million times over at this point. infinite kudos always💗💗 (categories: byler in the upside down, miscommunication, angst & fluff, tension, wound tending, will has a gun)

- i hate accidents (except when we went from friends to this) by blackdeathmamba. a classic, and for a good reason. great tension & pining, super butterfly-inducing, with a twist at the end that simultaneously had me yelling and giggling into my pillow. ADORABLE. so, so wonderful. (categories: pining, miscommunication, college byler, roommates, fluff)

- running up that road by @smoosnoom. i had a really hard time trying to figure out which of moon’s fics to rec bc i feel like all of them, in general, defined my 2022. and of course, everyone and their mother has recced tearing you asunder! but going back over the fics, i think this one truly had the biggest impact on me. first of all, it was the first fic i ever read while listening to the accompanying playlist, and that experience literally changed my life. it is so hard for me to read without listening to music now😭 but seriously reading this w/ moon’s song choices felt like watching a movie. second of all, i really got inside mike’s head here. his character was great, and the fic displayed some of his more unpleasant qualities that some people might shy away from, like anger or resentment. this was just a very real portrayal of byler, and of mike in general. and a lot of the scenes in here—specifically the beginning and end—have stuck with me since i read them. overall, incredible experience, and i’d read it again in a heartbeat. (categories: post s4, character study, mike centric)

20 - 30k

- the gaps and the silence by delusionaltogether (whyyyyy) aka @parkitaco. i read this last night and cried my heart out—not big dramatic sobs, but more of a silent & continuous cry that would pop back up without warning. this was just so exquisitely written—the best of parker’s work that i’ve seen, which is such an impressive feat because i love absolutely everything they publish. the resolving of miscommunication, the healing of byler’s fractured relationship, the responsibility taken on both sides, and the love that still persists through all of it—this is a masterpiece. it is a triumph of human emotion, and a truly excellent mark of good writing. cannot recommend enough—along with absolutely all of parker’s other works. (categories: angst, miscommunication, reunion, college byler, first dates, mutual pining)

- mike wheeler’s guide to falling in love with a superhero by @smoosnoom. this was my first introduction to spiderwill, and i loved every minute of it. this is fun, fast-paced, a little crazy, and just SUCH an enjoyable read. plus, i get a cameo as bagel girl, which in my opinion, is the best part!! but fr this was honestly so well done and even as i’m writing this, i’m getting the urge to read it again. loved, loved, LOVED. (categories: spiderwill, fluff, light-hearted, energetic)

30 - 40k

- you can hear it in the silence by @astrobei. there is truly not enough praise in the world for suni’s fics, or her writing in general, but this one was really something special. mike in this fic is one of my favorite mikes ever, and i think about his big conversation with robin at least once a day. this is truly just a magical coming of age romance. it is so soft & tender & real, and i genuinely could read it every single day and never get bored. also, as someone who worked in food service, i appreciated the accurate portrayal🫡 but also. never again. customers can suck my dick. getting off track here :) (categories: coming of age, friends to lovers, mutual pining, soft)

- i know, i know, i know by aude_sapere. season 4 rewrite!! the writing of this is incredible, the plot is fantastic, and it was one of my first really notable reads in this fandom. really gives will his main character moment, as he deserves!! (categories, s4 rewrite, main character will, pining, action)

40 - 50k

- i’ve come home, i’m so cold by @astrobei. this one is just. ohhhhh my god where do i even start?? this is my ideal college byler fic. it’s literally so perfect, start to finish. will’s narration is incredible, and additionally the plot is just so, SO interesting?! there’s something about suni’s writing that i just can’t get enough of. she writes exactly the way i think and it results in prose that flows effortlessly and is so much fun to read!! i am just chomping all of her fics up one by one and i am still hungry☹️ i think suni needs to write just for me forever & always actually. (categories: college byler, mystery, pining, best friends to lovers, roommates)

- boys don’t cry series by @padmedala. this series is so special to me, specifically the first installment. it was one of the first works i really read that focused on will’s queerness in other terms than his relationship with mike! there was so much queer joy & healing & growing up in this series, and it was really beautifully explored in a way that left me crying, but still unable to put my phone down. really, really wonderful, and criminally underrated. (categories: coming of age, season 4-5, queer joy, healing, romance, pining)

50 - 100k

- chiron in gemini by babydraygen. this was one of the first season 5 fics that i read, and i still think this is a REALLY interesting take on it. eddie’s alive, mike is kind of a dick, and the apocalypse is in hawkins, but everyone’s pretty chill about it. i think the characters here were so complex and interesting, and i was honestly hooked the whole time. (categories: season 5, coming of age, angst, getting together)

- there is a season by ghostlin. yet another s5 fix-it, mike-centric this time. really well written, great character development, and truly so much fun to read. to quote my original bookmark: this is, without a doubt, one of the best fics i’ve ever read. writing is impeccable, everything (EVERYTHING) is perfect, and i cherished every single word. this is my season 5. if you are reading this right now, stop and read this fic. yes, me too. read it again. (categories: s5, character development, slow burn, apocalypse, drama)

- i’ll find a new place to be from by @andiwriteordie . clearly i have a thing for s5 fics, but this was honestly so amazing!! i think about it a lot, and am definitely pulling inspo for my own eventual s5 fic (hopefully coming next year!) andi has written so many (and i mean SO. MANY) wonderful fics for this fandom, which is a gift in itself. but there’s nothing that i think about more than this one. (categories: s5, drama, will byers has powers, getting together)

100k +

- you are the heart by touchthesky. i spent months reading this one, chapter by chapter, as it uploaded, and i don’t regret it one bit. this was such an interesting, complex, and well-done take on season 5. there were some really shocking plot twists, gripping moments of turmoil, and satisfyingly resolved arcs for every single character. the action sequences are god-tier, the internal dialogue is fascinating, the worldbuilding is INCREDIBLE, and i honestly just cannot say enough good things about this fic. will probably be giving it another read soon! (categories: s5, angst, the full package, slow burn, will pov, intense worldbuilding, main character death)

Citadel redesign/some lore improvement or change

I have an idea of some time now (6 years lol) of changing the Citadel structure and that the CC/race themselves. Mainly that while I like the Citadel design itself (one of my favorite space stations), it's not that impressive, especially the size and shape itself. Citadel is meant to imitate an O'Neil cylinder, which is not good as those space habitats meant to be built by today technology. What happened if an alien race, who built hundreds of cylinders already, come across the Citadel? They will laugh themselves silly. So, I came up with my own version.

The Citadel itself

I based the idea of mixing the Original Citadel and Omega stations itself, with the arms fully open and spread.

With the arms attracted around Omega uppermost section. The version itself looks like this:

The Citadel total height is 1,000 km, from the upper-section (the round head) to the cylinder bottom (referred to as the lower-section). The antenna-like structure in the mid-section is the main space port, where all the goods are imported and exported. The lower-section is a regular cylinder (I think 500 km in height), using configuration for gravity.

The upper-section uses eezo for artificial gravity and uses "levels" for separating. Each levels has 2.5km of space height, connecting by pillars. So, in a way, the upper-section is similar to Aincrid from SAO.

The arms- which has 5- 500 km in length, and around like 20 km in height. Like the upper-section, each level has 2.5km space height, with a total level of 6. Some levels have strict biome and meant for national parks (with some towns and whatnot). Some are only meant for certain species like volus so they could live without suits. There're likely 2 levels that are heavily urbanized, with some population density of 100k km².

The arms (and majority of the upper-section, let's be honest), are fully enclosed, meaning the uppermost does not have glass/transparent metal. How they receive light is through hundreds of light overheads with radiators. So they do have some kind of sky, being bluish hue, but it's possible seeing the next level floor. It's like the sky in Requiem from Halo 4.

There're parts where glass/transparent metal is placed so people can gaze at the Serpent Nebula or the stars, usually parks and lounges. However, there're likely private space that rich people could own (like owning an apartment/housing adjacent to the glass/transparent metal).

The very uppermost in the upper-section is where the Council and species-nations/states embassies are located. I called this part The Crest. The Crest has it own space port meant for diplomats, nations/states military (like the Normandy), certain organizations, or very wealthy people kr business.

The arms could close (like the original), sealing upwards to the Crest. That, and with the kinetic barriers, it's nearly impossible to break through (unless you have 1 peta-ton weapon). The Citadel Fleet itself is far bigger, having 30k of warships guarding, with the Turians having 20k, including 1.8k dreadnoughts and battlecruisers. Asari also has 25 Ascension-class, with the lead ship, Destiny Ascension, being the flagship (their main reactor generates 2.5 peta-joules per second; fuck you Halo fans 🖕🖕, suck at these blue clit lol). There're also hundreds of space defense platform, ranging from arsenal missile platform-using metallic hydrogen as payloads and rocket propellant- to fucking mass accelerator (each ranging from 250 tera-joules [60 kiloton] to fucking 100 peta-joules [24 megatons]). They are going make you work for it lol.

I don't really know the total population. Either 15 billion or, at maximum, 100 billion. There are likely people who not only never leave the Citadel, but never even venture out of their arm or level.

I can't really think anything else to add that isn't about the station itself.

Turians

Nothing much to add, except fleet and ship size. There is an ME book that said there're tens of trillions of beings, and I took that fact seriously. However, of that true, than their fleet numbers has to be fucking huge. I saying they have likely 10 million ships, with 900k dreadnoughts (400k) and battlecruisers (500k). An average dreadnoughts size is 2.5 km in length, with a reactor core of 450 terawatts. Battlecruisers is 2km in length with a reactor of 340 terawatts. Their ships size are similar compared to other species nations/states military, though they have a numerical size advantage to back it up. (It's not the ship size or crew that makes a ship expensive, but the mass effect/eezo core is what limit it.)

Like what many codex and books say, Turians have multiple alien clients, with a more concrete number of 5. Two submit willingly for protection, however really fuck-up their chance having a seat in the Council. The other 3, however, were forced into submission, doing a "fuck around and find out" situation. Turians did so, so they will never be a threat to them again. Because of this, some of their client race form extreme Sangenists rebel/terrorists (Sangenism from Latin, Sanguis [blood] + Gen [race/people], mainly species nationalist). Humans almost suffer the same fate if the Asari didn't interfere.

Asari

Nothing much change for the Asari either, only adding or making it definite. Asari has around 25k planets and satellites (Turians has maybe 30k planets and satellites), the majority of which are in the Athena Nebula. They don't really have a large population. Actually, humans (300 billions, will explain) will nearly reach theirs at (1.95 trillion) by the end of the millennium. This is thanks of never needing to expand their lifespan.

I think this is already canon, but Asari mostly romance their own kind (I saying 80%), with only being a taboo of having a pureblood. Also, they are not actually omnisexual, with around 70% preferring females, other mono-sex, or hermaphrodite (i think the hanars are hermaphrodite, not sure).

They have 100 Ascension-class dreadnoughts, though it's a fucking financial nightmare due how large the Eezo Core has to be. I think increasing it twice or thrice it size. Something like this:

Humans

Instead of the canon events taking place in the late-22nd century, this took place in the late-23rd century. Humanity did discover the Prothean artifacts at Mars in 2148, however they didn't contact the Turians until 2256. So they have like a century of colonization expansion.

The reason why Humanity population explored is due to discovering expanding a human lifespan (decreasing telomerase shortening through mitosis) in around 21th century, increasing average life expectancy to 180 years. Even though this solves the so-called "fertility crisis", it cause an overpopulation crisis since now the death rate is nearly absolute zero lol. Actually this common for any other race that increases their lifespan. I took the idea from my races, Indrin/Rin/other species, who, in 1955, have a population of 50 billion, and by 3456 (first contact with Earthian humans), reach 25 trillion.

Other races/history/etc.

The books and codex said there're dozens of species instead of just the ones in the game (the game engine could only handle so much). I put the number at least 76 species, with a total population of 1.5 quadrillion. Turians have one of the highest populations, at least 20 trillion, and Turian females are one of the most common bedmates (genetic donors) or lovers for Asaris. At least have of the species are gonochoric (having only two sex for reproduction like humans), though some of those races are not similar to humans (I strongly in the belief Turian males do not have dick; Garrius tribs the living shit out of femshep [I'm a strong Shiara shipper lol] and he does well). Mono-sex species like Asari (though even other mono-sex species found Asari odd for theirs) are evenly proportion with gonochoric, other S.R like hermaphrodite, multiple different sex (think Andorian from Star Trek), and others.

Can't really think of anything else: some ideas i have like the formation of the Citadel Council and why the Treaty of Farixen was signed. The idea I have is that there were multiple other international organizations like the CC (though CC is the strongest) and that it lead to multiple arm races, some of which lead to wars (causality up to dozens of billions of death). These I.O. merge with the CC and the Farixen was signed so that there wasn't another interstellar war. Another idea is that the Rachnie War (taking place at 900CE, last for 1 century with interspersed skirmish for another 2 century) led to 1 trillion deaths (oof) and the Krogan-Citadel War (1300-1400 CE) cause 250 billion deaths (the Krogans throw a fucking Moon-size satellite at a Turian planet the fuck?).

I also thinking of an alien nation having a robotic army before the Rachni War, and use it against a war with the CC (like the CIS Droid Army from Star Wars). Only, the robots, after gaining sapient, didn't like to being told and cause a brutal genocide against them. Through the CC managed to stop them, this incident, and Quarian Genocide, what drives the fear of AI to them.

Despite the fact that I have uni to focus on and poor motivation I want to write and post more fanfics! So, I'm doing a poll were you lot choose what I should focus my attention on.

(please note all fics will likely be written at some point)

option 1: lets leave together (till death did up part)

currently ongoing and uploads one a week, voting would cause 2 uploads a week.

This fic follows Barty through first year and through to the war. It will be endgame rosekiller with other ships happening before that.

option 2: studying methods of staying alive

current wip, fully planned but has barley been written, voting would (hopefully) cause 2 uploads a week throughout october. Will be 10 chapters.

This fic follows the marauders girls (lily, mary, marlene, dorcas, pandora, emmeline, alice and narcissa) It's a modern, no magic au where the girls are all in univeristy and during reading week they deside to go to a cabin to turn studying into a fun girls trip. However, it all goes wrong when one by one the girls start disappearing.

option 3: on the rosier ranch

current wip with little planning but has started being written, voting would cause one chapter a week. Length unknown but around 20-30k.

This fic follows 6 povs (evan, barty, marlene, dorcase, lily and pandora) with 3 povs per chapter. It's a modern no magic horse riding au that follows 3 romantic plot points of; lily and pandora working on a project together and becoming friends, marlene starting work at a ranch where dorcas does all her riding practice, and evan and barty competing in a tournament.

option 4: untittled nobleflower

Just an idea currently, voting would cause one chapter a week but uploads would take a few weeks to start. length unknown.

This fic would follow alice and narcissa, being split pov. It's a regency era fic that would take inspiration from brigerton but NOT be a full au. Its a slow burn forbidden romance with exploration and criticizations of feminism in the era.

Whoo! Alright! After two years in the works, And a Grove of Palistrom to You, my Owl House Daemon AU, is here! Being posted! Slowly! And so everybody knows just what that will look like, I decided to throw together this post, so I can talk for as long as I want without flooding the poor AO3 author’s notes.

So, let’s hit up the main points!

How much of the show will this cover?

This AU covers all of TOH seasons two and three, starting at "Separate Tides" and ending with an epilogue that takes place after the events of this AU’s version of "Watching and Dreaming." While the events of season one happened in this AU, and are referenced, they will not be covered like the rest of the show is. You can assume that, unless specified otherwise, likely the plotbeats were roughly similar.

Do I have to know His Dark Materials/Daemon AUs in general or The Owl House to read?

This series does assume a familiarity with daemon AUs and The Owl House. If you’ve never read His Dark Materials you’ll be totally fine, and if you’re confused about daemon AUs things will be explained in the series! If you’ve never seen The Owl House, you might be left a bit more lost, but not so much that it should be too confusing.

If you do have questions regarding this aspect of the story, feel free to send me an ask! Worst I can do is say spoilers, in which case all will be revealed in time.

How will the series be formatted?

And a Grove of Palistrom to You is a series that will contain 43 individual works, which I’ll be calling “episodes.” Each episode will be posted as its own work on AO3, within the And a Grove of Palistrom to You series. The best way to get updates on the series as a whole is to subscribe to the series, not to the individual works!

Episode length ranges anywhere from a short oneshot (3-5K words) to a novel (80K words). This is because there are two “types” of episodes, which each have their own average length. These types are:

Full episodes: these works cover the events of a canon episode of The Owl House. They will also be referred to using whole numbers (ex. 2, 13). There are 24* of these, and they tend to be between 20-30K words.

Inbetweens: these works cover the events that take place in between the full episodes, and as such are about events that did not happen in a canon episode of The Owl House. They will also be referred to using half numbers (ex. 2.5, 13.5). There are 19 of these, and they tend to be less than 10K words, with a handful of exceptions.

* while there are 24 full episodes, 21, 22, and 23 have slightly different rules from the rest. 21, 22, and 23 are this AU’s version of the hour-long season three specials, and each of them are around 70-80K words each. In addition, 24 works more like an inbetween, covering events that do not take place in a canon episode, as it is the epilogue to the entire series. Keen-eyed readers might also notice that there are 24 full episodes of TOH—21 episodes in season two, and 3 in season three—but only 23 here. This is because in this AU, two episodes (19/O Titan, Where Art Thou and 20/Clouds on the Horizon) have been combined into one, this-AU’s full episode 19.

In addition, the series can also be broken up into five arcs and an epilogue, where the end of each arc marks some sort of major “shift” in the story—think, Season 2A vs Season 2B in TOH. These arcs are as follows:

Arc One: Episodes 1-4.5

Arc Two: Episodes 5-10

Arc Three: Episodes 10.5-16

Arc Four: Episodes 16.5-20

Arc Five: Episodes 21-23

Epilogue: Episode 24

How long is the series?

The entirety of And A Grove of Palistrom to You is around 900K words long, split into about 160 chapters.

How long will it take to post?

As the entire story is fully written and edited, barring unforeseen real life circumstances, you can be confident I will post the entire series! However, because the entire story is also very long, instead of being posted all-at-once, it’ll be posted chapter-by-chapter.

The update schedule will change throughout the life of this series, though my goal is to post at least one chapter a week.

Currently, the fic updates three times a week: Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

I saw you posted a TOH Daemon AU back in 2021?

Yup, called our ever-changing souls! In a sense you can consider this series a “redux” of that fic, which I wrote back when there was only season one and now with more context, well, uh, I’d do a lot of things differently! Which I did. Which eventually became And a Grove of Palistrom to You!

That fic is in no way canon to this series. The only things I carried over were the names of two characters (Mari and Alma).

What about the one posted in 2023?

Ah yes, Creatures of Star and Sky. That fic was written when "For the Future" came out, and you can see it as a sort of test-write of a character dynamic I wanted to explore. However, the events of that fic are not canon to And a Grove of Palistrom to You.

Okay, what about the short ficlets you’ve posted on this blog?

While I was writing And a Grove of Palistrom to You, I would sometimes write little “sketch-stories” by shuffling my music playlist and writing a ficlet for however long the song happened to be. And sometimes I’d post them! Though these are closer to canon than anything else discussed, they function more as test-pieces of character dynamics or plotbeats I hadn't yet hit and as such aren’t truly canon to And a Grove of Palistrom to You.

Will you write or post any more ficlets?

Maybe! There's quite a few that have never been posted yet, and I'm not opposed to writing more covering events that don't happen in the series, such as stuff from season one or after 24. Perhaps for special occasions.

2-4k anon here. I read different types of fic and original fiction. 10k for 10+ chapters is annoying even if it works for 2 or 3 part stories - I don't like it for a proper longfic. Especially if I'm getting live updates.

I have also read novels where the chapters grow in length each chapter. Starting at 2k going up to 20 or 30k. Crazy.

Longer chapters mean losing my place more

Writing/Art Update 2.12.2024

👏I 👏had 👏a good 👏writing week 👏for once!👏

I finished Chapter ?10?

I wrote ✨7702✨words!

I sort of figured out a title--I haven't finalized it yet, but I've got about six variations on a phrase that I'm rolling around trying to figure out which one I want to use. They're all better than "Ductwork," which I had all but resigned myself to using

I even drafted a story summary? It could probably use some polishing, but it's not even terrible

Chapter ?10? came out to 8668 words, which is an ideal chapter length. I might tweak the chapter opening a little, but there's no point in stressing about it until I've actually written Chapter 9, so I feel like I earned the checkmark for that as last week's goal.

The big thing I have left to do is to fill in the chunk from Chapter 8 to Chapter 9*, where Chapter 9* will probably be two chapters. At this point, I'm just trying to write it based on filling a day and a half of story-time, and then I'll worry about how many chapters I have to chop it into. My guess is that this is all going to take between 20 and 30k words, of which I have written 10k (spread over a number of non-connected scenes, most of which are about Byakuya, even tho this fanfic is not about him, a thing I have to keep reminding myself). This is one of those things that is either I'm just going to do, and the ideas will show up when they are required to, and it will be fairly easy OR I will have no ideas and it will be agonizing. I feel like a grizzled cowboy muttering "we can do this the easy way...or the hard way" except I don't get to pick, it's just that one of them is going to happen.

The little thing I have left to do is the epilogue, which, for some reason, I had budgeted at 5k words, but that's absurd. I looked back at the epilogues to Between Tides and Call Me Back, and they were, like 1-2k, which is more like what I'm looking at here. In any case, the epilogue isn't even important to the story. It ought to be fun to write, so I'm leaving it for last for a treat, and if it's not fun or easy, it's not even strictly necessary.

I temporarily gave up on my daily art thingie. The theme for February has just...not been very appealing to me. I watched a tutorial on doing collage early in the week, and I tried to talk myself into trying it, because perhaps, I would find that something rewarding in the activity, and then I realized that I had energy and drive that I wanted to put into my fanfic, and I can do exploratory art activities later.

Anyway, for my own record-keeping: the Part B document is at 35,175. My estimate for overall workcount right now is at 85,085. Novel territory, baby!

List of Current Klive Projects

So I have waaaaay too many unpublished WIPs in various stages of completion, from just plot bunnies, to complete outlines, to partial chapters, to almost completed fics, lmao. Currently my main focus has been If It's Not Love (Then It's the Bomb) with some oneshots or short multichapter fics scattered. However I've just started posting the follow-up to my Hitman Five fic (Kill Me Twice), Let Me Tear You to Pieces, which is going to be multichapter, and later this month or next month I'll be posting something else--but what that is remains up for debate, as I'm spoiled for choice on what to work on.

The question I have, I guess, is what of my 9 billion ideas sounds most appealing to others. So poll time! Here's a brief(ish) rundown of my various projects for Klive. Take a look and tell me what you'd most like to see!

*Accidental Sugar Daddy AU (~50k ish?) Season 4 AU where the rest of his siblings are making lives for themselves without their powers, but Klaus has no idea what to do with himself. Luckily for him, Five is more than happy to take care of him in the meantime. But as Five goes to more and more extravagant lengths to keep him happy, Klaus feels like he should be giving something back. And when Diego jokingly calls him Five's Sugar Baby, Klaus can't stop thinking about just how he could show his appreciation. Basically Didn't Know They Were Dating followed by Mutual Pining While Fucking, Misunderstandings, Angst, and a delightfully cheesy Happy Ending :D

*The Professional Cuddler AU (likely ~20k) - Ben is a professional cuddler who has an emergency and asks his BFF Klaus to take his appointments for him one day. Five is a maladjusted, touch-starved little psycho and his BFF Viktor buys him a session with a professional cuddler to see if it might help. *Danger Days AU (multi-chapter probably in the 75k+ range) Set in the Danger Days universe (from My Chemical Romance's album/videos/comics), Reginald rules the world and various of his adopted children run major cities. Five runs Battery City, with the Handler training his SCARECROWS. Five ends up with a new sexbot that doesn't behave like bots are supposed to, but as angry as it makes him, he's not about to return the bot... Klaus, meanwhile, is a top of the line, self-aware, true AI and secretly working with the underground, sending info back to Diego and Lila, and trying to find out where Reginald's last son, Viktor, has disappeared to.

*Time Travel What Ifs # 1 (multi-chapter ~25-50k) When Reginald throws Klaus out of the tunnel in season 3, he doesn't manage to die in time before the Kugelblitz gets him...and he wakes up back in the season 1 timeline, tied to a chair in Hazel and Cha-Cha's motel room. Klaus sets about fixing the timeline in a decidedly Klaus way, much to the bafflement of his siblings who wanna know what the hell happened to change their brother so dramatically overnight. (Also, Five keeps walking in on Klaus in various stages of undress. This is not essential to the plot, but I do adore it :D)

*Time Travel What Ifs #2 (probably a fairly porny oneshot ~ 10k at most??) Five's equations end him up in the mid 00s in a hot young 20-something body. 15 yo Klaus is super fucking into it, and trying to seduce Five, while Five tries to resist. He eventually fails to resist...

*Mob AU (?? 15-30K ish??) Psycho Mob Enforcer Five is the Boss's favourite, but has to leave town a while to lay low. Upon coming back and he takes a special interest in, and starts stalking, the Boss's newest sidepiece Klaus. Klaus is, predictably, super into it (and all the glorious fallout of that relationship when Five's not willing to share with anyone, boss or no...)

*Old Man Five/Hooker Klaus (25-50k) Old Man Five hops through the timeline trying to help improve his siblings' lives, even if they don't know it's him. When he gets to Klaus, he figures some money could improve his situation, but Klaus is disinclined to take money without providing services in return...Five doesn't mean to fuck his brother, but once he gets started, he's not about to stop. Klaus becomes his kept boy, and Klaus, despite the fact that he doesn't know much about his mysterious benefactor who disappears for long stretches of time, starts to fall in love. Except then Five disappears for good (after the Handler threatens to kill Klaus if Five keeps going back). Upon returning to his 13 yo body, Five doesn't want to tell Klaus the truth, assuming he'll be pissed to find out it was Five all along. But then Luther, the only one who's seen Old Five finds a photo of him in the background of some major historical event, and upon seeing it, Klaus blows up like wtf how could you not TELL ME??? and there is DRAMA and a fair amount of angst, but an eventual happy ending.

*Daemon AU (a la His Dark Materials; 10-20k ish, oneshot-ish, probably with other short one-offs in same ' verse) I have SO MANY FEELS ABOUT KLAUS' DAEMON OKAY??? And I don't want to get into them too much without being spoilery. But basically some vague timeline what timeline where they avoid the apocalypse and still have their powers and settle back into the manor. No one has seen Five's daemon since he returned to their timeline, leading his siblings to believe she must have been severed from him. No *humans* have seen her, but Klaus' daemon has, and the two of them hang out a lot. Meanwhile Klaus' daemon is as much of a mess as he is, thnks to various experiments Reggie performed, and of course the issue of what becomes of the daemon of a person who can die and return to life, when upon death, a daemon becomes Dust? Basically these two have some fucked up issues that are reflected in their daemons, which leads everyone around them to jump to conclusions. But mostly it's a really soft, romantic fic, of Five's daemon taking care of Klaus and Klaus taking care of Five, and just...lots of feels guys, okay?!

*Meet as Teens AU (25-50kish) Cancer Patient Five's family move to America for treatment. In the small town nearby, he meets Amish Klaus, who works at his family's market. Five's going through a bit of a rebellious phase (facing some really bad odds with his cancer) and Klaus lives on the fringes of his society, an outcast because of his weird abilities. Of course they gravitate towards one another, but when Five gets bad news after his most recent round of treatment, Klaus decides to visit the Girl and ask for a favour. *Commune AU (under 20k oneshot/maybe several short ~2-5k ficlets) Instead of selling Five when Reginald comes calling, Efa, whose family has a plot of land, invites other mothers of the powered children to drop off their babies if they don't want them. And if you want your baby but can't keep them because of shitty family situations, drop yourself off, too. Basically some of the moms stay and together they raise and teach and train the children together. The kids grow up happy and moderately well-adjusted and Reginald gets none of them, the dick. Five and Klaus are good friends, but then genius Five heads off to university pretty young, then a year of study abroad, and they mostly only keep in touch via mail. Five comes back from his study abroad to find Klaus has finally moved off the commune, and when he mentions not wanting to live in the dorms next semester, his mum mentions Klaus having space in his apartment. The last time Five saw him, Klaus was still that sort of wary, fluffy farm boy. But then Five walks into Klaus' gallery and both of them are all "oh no he's hot." Klaus is all cool and sexy and tattooed, and has all these friends and Five's despairing "what is he going to see in me, his square, nerdy friend." and Klaus is all, "ugh, Five is so hot and serious and he must think I'm so immature and stupid"

IDK if this will get any response whatsoever, since Klive fandom is so small, but I figured I'd try!

random observations about kudos/hits ratios on ao3

so i've been reading fic on ao3 since uhhhh about 2016? 2015 maybe? and writing since 2018 ish. during those years i've made a few observations about common ao3 reader/author behaviors. i thought i'd share them with the obvious caveat that i am limited to the fandoms i've been in and my own personal experiences

One-Shots

generally the standard for one-shots is a 1/10 kudos/hit ratio. meaning if a fic has 3,000 hits, it has at least 300 kudos.

if a fic has a kudos/hit ratio below 10%, it probably has an unsatisfying ending. i almost never see the ratio lowered for poor writing quality.

the exception is fics tagged Unhappy Ending or Hurt No Comfort. those get less hits but the people reading know what they're getting in to. those fics will generally stay within a 10% range.

generally fluff one-shots or fics that are all comfort, no hurt have the highest ratios of any category of fics, sometimes reaching as high as 20%.

Multi-Chaptered Fics

these fics are damn lucky if they reach 10% lmaooo

this is a gradient of sorts, though. complete fics with 2/3 chapters have a much higher chance of being near a 1/10 kudos/hit ratio, while those decade-long 400k 50 chaptered epics are probably near 1%.

based on how ao3 hits work, i would guess that this is because there's a higher chance of ao3 registering another hit even if the reader is just reading the latest updates.

basically, a 2-chapter fic started and finished within two weeks has a very good chance of being above the 10% ratio. that really long fic you spent a week reading three years ago which made you feel like you just ran a marathon? not a chance.

a brief tangent into chapter lengths: a higher length correlates with higher quality. i want to emphasize (actually, i want to tell twelve-year-old self this, but 12 y/o me is beyond our help now) that quantity does NOT make quality. just because you can squeeze an extra thousand words into chapter 3 doesn't make the story any better. however, in general, the writing quality of a 30k fic with 3 chapters will be higher than that of a 30k fic with 30 chapters.

there are exceptions! i once read a very long fic with very long chapters where the writing was, for lack of a better descriptor, extremely childish. the author mostly rotated the same ten verbs around and around for 100k. also sometimes you read a 400-word one-shot that mentally destroys you for weeks.

of course, at the end of the day none of this matters. i wrote a barely decent 42k 5-chapter fic which is somehow over the 10% ratio. i cannot for the life of me understand why this is. it's not good, you guys. it's really not. on the other hand, i wrote a 37k one-shot which is below the 10% ratio. the kudos/hit ratio has not changed how i view the quality of those fics, it just convinced me that some of y'all have no taste.

these really are just random observations i've made from my six ish years putting fic on the good old Archive. it's not meant to be a reading guide, just something that makes you go "huh."

I think @kennyomegasweave tagged me in this OTP meme like...months ago? And I just found it half-finished in my drafts and decided to actually get it done.

1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care anymore? 20s, not my teens, but I used to be utterly obsessed with Jack/Kent from Check Please and now, IDEK what happened. I still love them, but I have old fic I saved and never read and can't bring myself to care anymore. IDK it makes me sad.

2. Which ship would you consider your first one? Hmm probably Betsy/Joe from the Betsy Tacy series or Anne/Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables? My first ships when I actually got into fandom were Sawyer/Kate and Sara/Grissom from CSI.

3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple? Magnus/Alec!!! I never thought I would write fic and then I watched season 1 of Shadowhunters and banged out (lol) 7 fics and almost 30k of porn in less than 2 months in 2016. They all have an insane number of hits (like. the highest has 54,878 hits and the lowest has 15,836 hits.........) and I still get kudos on them almost every day, it's wild.

4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over? Genuinely no idea, but the first one in my fan art tag is Katniss/Peeta from 2012 <3

5. Did you ever get into ship discourse? My first instinct whenever I see someone talk about something I don't like is to mute/block, so perhaps not actively, but I'm sure I have at some point.

6. Did you used to have any no-otp or have it currently? LOL. Yes. I still fucking HATE Jack/Kate from Lost and always will. Also Dan/Blair from Gossip Girl. Lately...I'm such a multi-shipper but I gotta say Kate/Anthony from Bridgerton bc I've genuinely had to restrain myself from bitching about how much I hate them SO many times since s3 came out lol.

7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read? I finished a rewatch of Beyond Evil last night so I've been rereading some of my old bookmarks bc I've read almost everything that's out there 😔. Shout out to the masterpiece simple & clean by whir.

8. Currently, do you have any OTPs? So many!!! Taemin/Kai is still my #1, but also Juwon/Dongsik from Beyond Evil, PatPran from Bad Buddy (it took me several episodes to actually get into the show but once I did I cried...so much over them and how much they love each other LOL), KunTen from WayV, Louis/Lestat...I feel kinda bad that I don't have a major current f/f OTP but I'm literally checking my kpop tags multiple times a week for rule 63 fic and most of my current WIPs are rule 63 f/f so there's that. (Two KunTen including what hopefully is gonna be a long one, plus a Jigyu I started yesterday for a fest that I'm hoping I'll be able to get done - not because of the length, but because I've never written Seventeen before)

9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together? So many??? I feel like I have to say Dean/Cas.......Lee/Kara never really got together so them for sure. Sawyer/Kate from Lost even though I 100% choose to believe they got together post-canon pre-flash-sideways. Oh my god I'm looking through my "forever bitter" tag and it's a lot of Cooper/Audrey from Twin Peaks as I expected, but I forgot about Mini/Franky from Skins. and ABSOLUTELY THEM. Everything about series 5 was terrible but that especially.

10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting? IDK I feel like I don't usually change my mind like that. I wouldn't go as far as saying "kind of interesting" but I guess I don't hate Bree/Roger from Outlander AS much on the show as I did in the books lol.

11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be cancelled over? Hmm...Cesare/Lucrezia maybe? If not them almost definitely Norma/Dylan from Bates Motel LOL.

12. What was your favorite crack ship? I was gonna say I couldn't remember any that truly fit this definition, but then I remembered the Kent Parson/Claude Giroux series #dirtbags and that was great. Actually no my real answer is Syd/Richie from The Bear. Now *I* don't think it's a crackship but they have that vibe.

13. Who is the couple you read more fanfics of? Here's a side by side view of my most bookmarked ships vs the tags I have saved rn on my front page. Unfortunately you can only have 20 but I think it's a pretty good representation. (Other than the ENHA ship, where I legit don't know anything about them or frankly even what they look like, but that tag produces so much incredible unhinged porn that I read canon-blind.)

14. What most of your ships usually have in common? I feel like I have several different ~types, but: friends to lovers, I LOVE bicker-y couples, age gap relationships, especially when one of them is a mentor-ish figure, and power dynamics in general.

15. What do you absolutely hate in a ship? Nice Guy characters, whether they're a guy or a girl. The OG example is Xander (duh) and Chloe from Smallville but you also see it with characters like Sol on My Stand In...there's def more things I hate but that's one of most major ones for me.
