watch for the sunrise
Lena Luthor, a titan of industry, buys and sells land with mechanical precision. Her life has been reduced to a never-ending cycle of numbers and percentages, her heart now dedicated solely to her brother. There, she meets a dusty cowboy, brimming with fury and defiance, who refuses to surrender her land without a fight.
Kara Zorel is a fighter, but her existence is one of perpetual struggle. Unending drought, unrelenting debt, and a father who drowns his sorrows in alcohol have left her unable to rest or even keep her head above water on her desolate piece of land. The arrival of a development executive poses a threat to all she holds dear. Driven to despise Lena, Kara finds herself with a choice: succumb to the insurmountable odds or convince this strikingly beautiful woman to reconsider her plans.

No Powers AU (Female Reader X Yelena Belova)
Summary: You and your roommate, Yelena Belova, invite some friends over for Mario Party; however, Yelena has no idea about your feelings for her.
Word Count: 4K
Content: Feelings, Crushes, Mario Party, Friendship, Comfort/Hurt
Tumblr media
Your roommate, Yelena Belova, was one of a kind.
Truly, you had never meant anyone like her. From the way she talked to how she made babies cry with one look. Or how the one thing she knew how to cook was Mac and Cheese.
You knew there would never be anyone else like her.
Which is maybe why you started to feel different around here... what began as two strangers needing a place to live slowly morphed into something else.
At least for you.
Yelena's asexual identification didn't make it impossible for her to find someone she could share a life with. It was just that you had never seen her with anyone since knowing her. So, IF Yelena were attracted to you, you would have no idea.
Regardless, your tiny crush was making itself known tonight as you waited for a few friends to come over. It was Saturday night, and after a shit week at work, you, Yelena, and your friends decided to have an impromptu game night.
"So what is it?" Yelena asked you again as you set an assortment of snacks on the hardwood coffee table. "It's called Mario Party. Each person chooses a character, and then you hit dice, play minigames, get coins, and you have to purchase stars." You looked up from the candies and savory snacks to a confused-looking blonde. "Whoever has the most wins." You said.
"Is it easy?" She asked after staring at you. You shrugged. "It can be a little challenging sometimes." Yelena hummed. "So it's not like that animal island game?" She asked with her eyes precious and wide.
A fluttering was happening in your stomach.
You cleared your throat with a smile. "No, Lena, it's not like Animal Crossing." Yelena pouted. She loved Animal Crossing no matter how much she hated Tom Crook, as she called him. Yelena opened her mouth to ask if the two of you could practice a round of this Mario Party, but a knock on the apartment door followed by its slowly opening stopped her.
"I got pizza!" Kate Bishop yelled as she entered through the small hallway. You walked past Yelena after your eyes fell to her lips without noticing. She was too busy looking at the game icon on the switch home screen. "You didn't bring Lucky?" You asked as you took the pizza boxes from your childhood friend.
Kate shook her head. "Figured it might get hectic." You nodded to her reasoning. Kate had followed you into the kitchen as you set the pizzas down. Pulling out some plates and dipping sauces.
Ranch and hot sauce for you and Yelena.
You turned around to find your friend eyeing Yelena. You looked between the two and raised an eyebrow to yourself.
"So..." You started pulling Kate's attention to you. You could see Yelena grab her special Joy-Con from the corner of your eye.
It was just the plain blue one, but she loved it.
Yelena clicked on the game as she pulled up a Let's Play on her phone of the game. You hide a laugh.
"How's your mom and her new man." Kate rolled her eyes. "He's so annoying, and he's doing things where he wants us to be like a family. It's just weird..." She shook her body as if she had a cold chill. "Plus, he has one of those old man smiles that could be threatening when all he's doing is asking for ice cream." Her voice was unhappy. She did not like this Jack guy at all.
"Y/n!" Yelena called out from the couch, making you and Kate leave the kitchen. "Yes?" You smiled and kept your voice level as you approached Yelena's side. Standing as she sat.
Yelena lifted her eyes to you before doing a double take at Kate. "Kate Bishop!? When did you get here?" Kate smiled awkwardly before licking her lips and speaking. "About five minutes ago." Yelena tilted her head. "Hmm. I did not know. You're sometimes too quiet." Kate did what she did best and chuckled lightly with a nervous laugh. "Yeah, like a mouse."
Yelena nodded before looking back at you and her phone. "Who is this?" She pointed to a Mario Party character on her tiny screen. "Oh, that's Wario." You replied. Yelena looked at you with all the seriousness in her voice. "Can I play as them?"
You nodded. "If you want."
"I want to." With one look into her eyes, you would go through hell to make sure she played as that little idiot.
"Okay, then you will." You smiled, and her face morphed into pure happiness. Like a puppy in the sun. "He reminds me of that fat short guy from that one show with the horrible people." She said as her attention moved back to the phone. You thought for a few seconds. "Are you talking about Danny Devito?!" Yelena smiled wide and bright. "Yeah, from the Sunny show!"
You couldn't help but laugh.
"That's a great character, Yelena!" Kate spoke up from behind you before not so subtly moving past you to sit next to Yelena on the couch. Her gaze was on Yelena's phone as well.
Were her cheeks pink?
"That character is like best friends with my character," Kate said, raising Yelena's eyebrows. "Really?!" You couldn't recall a time when Kate played as Walugi, but her favorite color was purple, so it probably happened at some point, and you just didn't remember.
Seconds later, a knock came to the door before YOU could explain how different Wario's dice block was from the other characters.
"Wanda! Pietro! Nice of you to join!" The twins were too busy bickering with one another to return your niceties. But Wanda did make sure to place the wine bottle in your arms.
"Y/n, did we have to knock, or could we have just let ourselves in?!" Pietro turned and looked at you with intensity. Wanda was doing the same. "Uhhh..." You looked between the siblings. "You could have just come in." You said with caution. "See!" Pietro threw his arms up while Wanda rolled her eyes. "But that's not how Mama raised us!" Wanda yelled as the two of them stormed into the kitchen.
Pietro had his nose leading him to the pizza. Wanda followed to grab glasses for the wine.
"But it's like the sitcoms you love so much. We're the friends that can come right into the apartment and join the shenanigans!"
Wanda groaned because her brother was right, and she hated it.
"Shut up!" Wanda replied before joining you in the living room, taking the wine from your hand. "Sorry. I need this NOW."
Wanda would be two and a half glasses in by the end of the night. All because of her lovely, annoying brother.
"Hey, Wanda! Hi Pietro!" Kate waved to the twins, who sent smiles and waves back. Yelena looked up and to them and gave them a nod. "Okay, so now if you land on a red monster face, you get in trouble?" Yelena asked Kate. Kate nodded and briefly explained who Boswer was.
Your eyes caught Yelena's briefly when she glanced your way. You could've sworn you saw her lip twitch upwards before she looked back to Kate.
"Here, Kate, it'll be easier to explain some of the mini-games once we're actually in the game." Kate looked up to you and your regent words sheepishly. She nodded after fumbling with her words. "Okay."
A moment later, when Kate left to grab the three of you slices of pizza, you took her spot next to Yelena. "I'll help you out if you need it." You said, which Yelena appreciated greatly but shook her head. "I shall win this game on my own!"
Your lips curled upwards with a laugh. "Oh, is that right, Lena!?" Yelena smirked and took a big sip of the wine Wanda dropped off. "Prepare to lose Y/n Y/l/n."
You took a sip of your wine as well. "We'll see Lena. We'll see."
About fifteen minutes later, You, Yelena, Kate, and Wanda were ready to start the night's first game. The disappointed look of Kate having to sit in her own chair was missed by you.
"How come there's five of us for a four-person game!" Pietro whined as you let Wanda select the level. "I asked Sam to come by, but he's busy with his test and all that." You said while waving your hand. Your friend Sam Wilson was training to become a pilot. Pietro huffed. "Fine."
"Also you fairly lost at rock papart scissors so sorry dude." You added on like rubbing salt in the wound. Wanda turned around and stuck her tongue out to her brother. Pietro angrily bit into his third slice of pizza and flipped her off.
The game was underway, and the order was set. Kate went first, followed by you and then Wanda. Yelena rolled a 3 and had to go last.
"Hey, that might be good; you can make your moves based on where other people are. Not where they might be." You said, cheering Yelena up slightly.
Kate and Wanda dominated the first few turns and minigames as you and Yelena struggled to move more than 4 per turn. You knew it was bad luck, but Yelena was about one more 1 v 3 mini-game from switching her joy-con until Kate got the first star.
"Who is that again?" Yelena asked as Toad started moving to a new spot on the map. "Toad. He's like a mushroom guy." Kate answered before you could. "Fuck! It's farther from me!" Wanda exclaimed as you turned towards the TV. Your eyes moving away from Yelena's side profile.
Toad landed seven spots in front of Yelena.
She could make it to him but she didn't have enough coins.
Luckily, when it was Yelena's turn, she rolled a five and landed on a blue space. Yet she was still short in terms of payment.
"Oh great, it's this one!" Wanda groaned. "Y/n's the be-" "Who wants to practice!?" You cut Wanda off and gave her a quiet glare; the other two people playing didn't seem to notice.
When everyone loaded into the practice mode, Wanda just gave you a confused look before forgetting about it.
Surprisingly, Yelena was just as good as you at rapidly clicking the button to send the little shy guy flying. But still, you won the practice mode. "Oh, come on, Y/n!" Yelena whined. "How did you do that?"
"What happened to winning the game on your own?" You said with your teasing voice dripping. Yelena loved that attitude and smirked. "Okay, Y/l/n, watch this." You turned towards the TV just before the mini-game started properly.
But not before you saw Kate's eyes on your blonde roommate.
"Come on!" Wanda yelled as her fingers smashed the button repeatedly. Kate groaned and held her breath as she did the same. You kept your technique unchanged, and Yelena did her best to copy you.
However, you knew from the practice round and every other game prior that you could do this with one with your eyes closed. But you had a crush on the blonde sitting next to you who cursed at her little yellow piece of shit character. Her words. So, without anyone realizing it, you stop mashing your button a few seconds before the timer ran out.
"Fuck that hurts!" Kate waved her hand around as the four shuguys began to take off.
Wanda's was the first to hit the ground. A laugh from her brother earned him a slap on the arm. Kate's followed the same destiny not long after, and to everyone's surprise, yours was the next to fail.
Wanda turned to you, shocked, but once Yelena realized she had won, Wanda put the pieces together and joined in the celebration of your defeat.
You were more than fine with it. Because now Yelena had enough coins to get her first-ever star.
She would never know it was really because of you.
"I'm taking a picture of this moment," Pietro said, making everyone laugh as Yelena hit the button to accept the Star from Toad.
"You Got A Star!" The game applauded! "I did it!" Yelena cheered and clapped to herself before you wrapped an arm around her and smiled at Pietro's dad's pose with the camera.
You thought Pietro had taken the picture when you shifted your face to take in Yelena's happiness.
Except, that was the picture that was taken.
Wanda made sure to show the one that followed where it looked like you were looking at the corner of the room.
After that, Yelena's luck turned for the better. She was on a roll. A few turns later, she earned another shiny star from a hidden block that left Kate flummoxed. "All I ever get is coins from those! Are you serious?!" Yelena laughed loudly at Kate.
Yelens then landed on Toad's space again after using a triple dice, and not even the prediction that you would win the game could stop Yelena.
Which left you, Kate, and Wanda struggling to do as much damage as possible to each other in the final turns of the first game.
"Yes!" Kate cheered when she got the last star next, making her and Yelena tied going into the Bonus Stars.
"Well, this sucks." Wanda sighed as she fell back against the couch. "There's no way I'm going to catch up!"
"What's happening?" Yelena asked no one in particular, but you still spoke up. "Bonus Stars. So once the game ends, it will still award additional stars to people. It makes it more exciting. Usually, it's like whoever landed on the most green spaces or landed on Bowser the most. Stuff like that." You explained, and you smiled when the blonde shifted her face to look at you.
However, your smile faltered a bit when you saw her eyes and the pout she wore. "So I might not win?"
"You can still win." You said with your voice soft. Yelena looked over your face as the moment became more intimate.
At least to you. You felt Wanda's gaze on you but moved your eyes to the TV.
"Yelena, look!" Kate pulled Yelena's attention away as the bonus star for the most distance traveled was being awarded.
It went to Wario.
And so did the next Bonus Star, which left Yelena jumping off the couch and into your arms when you stood up. "You did it!" You exclaimed loudly.
"I won the Mario Party!"
Your eyes shined as you looked at the way Yelena, how she couldn't control her excitement. It reminded you of the time you had won $200 on a lottery ticket, and you and Yelena went shopping. She bought a fur coat and wears it every time it hits below 45 degrees. (Fahrenheit)
You would always wanted her to be happy.
With the first round of Mario Party over, Wanda switched out with Pietro, and you did your best not to get competitive over the next game on the map in space. Yelena tried her hardest but found herself struggling. Pietro was just as fast in the game as he was in real life. Zooming from star to star, leaving you and Kate reeling.
"Y/l/n third place again!" Yelena teased as she landed herself in a solid second place behind Pietro. You went to jokingly retaliate, but Kate stole Yelena's attention and challenged her to a different Mario game.
Mario Kart.
Yelena's eyes went wide with fear before you slowly watched how they shifted.
Determined Yelena would be.
However, that would have to wait for another night as you looked at your phone, seeing how late it had gotten. Everyone agreed and helped you and the blonde clean up.
Pietro helped by eating two more slices.
"Oh hey, Y/n, before I leave, do you still have that red jacket? I wanted to borrow it for a party Lorna is throwing next week. It would fit the theme." Wanda said, shrugging her arms. You nodded and let her follow you to your bedroom.
"Here." You said, pulling the jacket off the hanger and holding your arm back. "Oh, thanks!" Wanda said as she grabbed it, and you turned around. Your eyes immediately noticed how your door had been shut.
"Wanda?" Sure, the two of you kissed when the clock struck midnight on New Year two years ago, but Wanda didn't have feelings. Did she? "Okay, spill!" Wanda said as she was closer than before—her voice above a whisper.
"Spill?"
"You and Yelena! What's going on there?" Ah! "Did you need this?" You said, picking up the arm of the jacket. Wanda shook her head. "I saw how you were looking at her! I take it she doesn't know?" You sighed. If there was anyone, you could count on sharing your newfound crush with, it was Wanda. "No, she doesn't know." You sighed again as you sat on your bed.
"Are you gonna tell her? Tonight?" Wanda asked, joining you by your side with her arms clutching the jacket. "I don't know... I want to... But."
"But it's Yelena." You nodded to Wanda's words. "I would also just hate to ruin our friendship." Wanda could understand. "Well, sometimes the biggest risks have the best rewards." You hated her cat poster-like words of wisdom, but she wasn't necessarily wrong. "Plus." You lifted your head to Wanda's green eyes before she continued. "At the end of the day, it's Yelena. Even if she didn't reciprocate those feelings with you, you know she wouldn't want anything to change between the two of you. You're best friends. She'll always be in your life. I'm sure it might be hard if she doesn't like you like you. But-"
"But I'd want her around." You finished Wanda's sentence. Wanda nodded, put her arm around you before her hand moved, and rubbed your back. "You're a big girl. You got this."
"You had to ruin it."
Wanda laughed loudly and let you rise from the bed. Before you helped her up. You definitely needed a new box spring.
Opening the door to your bedroom, your eyes caught Yelena's as she exited a hug from Kate. Her eyes quickly moved away from you and Wanda as she confirmed her plans to practice Mario Kart for the next game night, whenever that would be.
"Got the jacket. Let's go!" Wanda yelled to her brother, who was helping out and putting the leftover pizza in foil for you. Oh, no, wait. He was grabbing some to go.
Kate noticed where your eyesight had gone and laughed at Pietro's actions before giving you a tight hug. "Tonight was so much fun, thank you!" You hugged your childhood friend just as tight. "Thanks for coming."
Kate then moved to Yelena and was awkward as she accidentally punched Yelena in the boob as she lifted her arm to hug the blonde. Again. Yelena laughed loudly as Kate blushed before they hugged. Kate left with a cloud of smoke after that.
"Bye, Y/n. Bye, Yelena!" Pietro said his goodbye first with a quick wave to you and a side hug to Yelena. Wanda turned around and hugged you before turning and doing the same to the blonde. You smiled as you walked closer to the door at the end of the apartment hallway. "Bye, guys!" You waved as you shut the door to Wanda, mouthing, "Talk to her."
With a click, the door was locked, and it was just you and Yelena. "That was a good time, Y/n!" Your cheeks wore a light pink as you moved away from the door. Following Yelena in the living room area. "I'm glad you had fun, Lena."
Yelena moved to the couch and grabbed the remote as you entered the kitchen to grab some water. Your mind racing with a way to bring up you're feelings. "I'm not tired yet. Do you want to watch a movie?" Yelena called out from the living room. "Uh, sure! Just pick whatever!" You called out with your voice jumping from your nerves.
You took longer than one would need to fill out their water bottle. Thankfully, Yelena didn't seem to notice as she swiped through hundreds of different options.
She was trying to find something specifically tailored to you.
"You like this one, no?" Yelena asked as you finally sat down. The movie was Legally Blonde, and Yelena knew you loved it, so why was she questioning it? One look and you could see her mind had been racing too.
And for some reason, that calmed your nerves just a bit. What if she felt the same way you did?
You hid a smile and scooted closer to Yelena, who tensed up slightly before pulling you in and dropping an arm around you. "Should I have made popcorn?" You asked. Yelena shook her head. "Still full."
You were, too.
As Elle Woods began to wake up on the screen, you bit your lip. Would during or after the movie be an appropriate time to talk to Yelena?
"Y/n?" Yelena's voice broke you from your thoughts as you lifted your eyes to her. Yelena was chewing on her lip. "Yeah?"
"I have something to say, and I don't know how you're going to take it." Your heart started beating faster than you ever thought possible. "Okay." You said as the movie fell into a black hole behind you. Your body lifts off Yelena to give her your entire attention.
Could this be it?
Yelena sighed before her eyes fell on you. They were gentle. "Tonight, I discovered something... and I'm unsure how to move forward."
You knew the feeling.
"Okay..." Yelena moved her leg below her and turned more towards you. "I... I-" You had never seen Yelena so nervous and flustered. Not even when she booked a trip to Paris, Texas, and not Paris, France. "Yelena." You reached for her hand and took it. "Whatever it is. I'm here for you. I can help."
Yelena knew this, yet she was anxious. "I think I might have a crush on-" "Oh wow! Okay! Tha-"
"On Kate," Yelena said with the words flying out of her. She needed to get this off her chest. She needed you to know. She didn't like this feeling inside of her as she was keeping this to herself. Plus, Kate Bishop was your childhood best friend. Yelena didn't want to make that uncomfortable for you.
"Now! I know this might be weird! But I-" Yelena stopped and quickly gathered her words—enough time for you to process what just happened and to hear your heart become shattered glass.
"There is just something about her. I'm drawn in. She's clumsy but beautiful. Funny!" Yelena laughed to herself as a fake smile finally appeared on your face. "But!" Yelena gripped your hand, and you still felt butterflies in your stomach due to the touch of her soft fingers. "If you have a problem with this or feel uncomfortable, let me know!"
Yelena was dead serious. If you told her that it would make things... unbearable she wouldn't pursue any bit of this with Kate. But you couldn't do that to her. You wouldn't put her own happiness in jeopardy. "It's okay." You said with a smile—another fake one.
You had to fake it now. You could cry later.
"Are you sure?" You nodded. "Absolutely!" You said. Yelena nodded a tad. "It's just she's your childhood friend, and I'm your best friend-"
"Yeah. You're my best friend, Yelena, so of course I want you to be happy."
You said with an enthusiasm you didn't know you could muster. But it finally convinced Yelena, who pulled you in for a hug. "Oh, thank you, Y/n Y/l/n!" She said into your neck. You closed your eyes and let the moment happen. "I love you, Y/n!" Yelena said with a loud cheeriness in her voice.
"I love you too, Yelena!" You whispered back.
By the time the next game night rolled around, Yelena and Kate were dating.
You hated Mario Kart after that.

Tumblr media
Author's Note: I went with a slightly "nontraditional" approach, mixing different wedding customs together as that's partially how I imagine things on No Man's Land to be (a blend of different Western (sorry) traditions), but I did lean more pagan and Celtic since I am self indulgent.
Tumblr media
This has gotten a bit out of hand. You think to yourself as you look out the window at Kasted City. You can't believe how much the city has changed since you were last here. Repairs have been made, and everything looks as good as new. The last scars left by the bandit infestation have been wiped away completely. The city is thriving once again. You stand in the middle of the room on a chair, and the narrow window only reveals a small glimpse of the landscape. You lean forward, trying to see more, but immediately get pricked by a sharp needle.
"Ow!" you complain before settling back.
"I have told you time and time again to stand still! Stop fidgeting so much!" Granny scolds you as she makes the last alterations to your dress. "I'm almost done with the hem."
This was supposed to be just a little homecoming to fulfill your promise to Lena and Granny. Vash had sworn that when the time came for the two of you to finally tie the knot, they would be included. In your mind, it meant that you return to the toma farm, perhaps sign a piece of paper, and go to have a drink, but it turns out that word travels fast. Especially when it comes to the Humanoid Typhoon and his companion, who have touched many people's lives. Meryl made quite a fuss when she found out about your plan, and Milly was close to tears when she got the impression that they weren't welcome. So you assured them it would be nothing fancy, but if they wanted, they were more than welcome to join. You get the feeling that's where the cat got out of the bag.
When you got to the city this morning, you were greeted with a buzz of excitement and anticipation. You brushed it off as just something unrelated to your arrival, but as you made your way to Granny's ranch, it had been decorated with streamers and bows. Lena and Meryl were hanging up a giant sign adorned with both your and Vash's names, and you felt a shiver run down your spine. You knew this was going to be a day to remember. While a hint of tread creeped into your soul, you turned your head to see your beloved fiance's face light up at the sight before him. A smile crossed his face, and you knew that whatever happened next, you would face it together. That's when Granny appeared, and after a warm welcome, you were separated from your dearest.
Granny and Lena had been working on a dress for you. It's simple but elegant and made with love. There are no extravagant embellishments, but you could see the care and effort put into every stitch. They also showed you the tiny pocket on the inside of your dress at the back of your neck that had a 5 cent piece in it. They did not, however, elaborate further.
From Granny's care, you move on to Meryl's, who makes you sit by the window to do your makeup. She chatters about all the preparations for the wedding as she carefully applies your lipstick. The others come and go, busy with preparations yet desperate to catch a glimpse of you.
"Done!" Meryl proudly proclaims, but she tilts her head and looks at you thoughtfully. "Something's missing…"
Her piercing gaze makes you nervous as you try to figure out what she is talking about. Suddenly, her eyes light up, and she reaches to remove her earrings.
"Here! These will work well! But I want them back!" She grins as she hands you the long golden earrings. You take them hesitantly as you look at them.
"Thank you, Meryl!" You smile up at her as you turn to the mirror and put them on.
"I see you have something borrowed. How about something blue?" A new voice speaks up from the door behind you, and you whip around in your chair.
"Luida!" you exclaim in surprise. She smiles her signature calming smile at you.
"It's good to see you again," she says and comes closer. "My, you look gorgeous!"
A slight blush colors your cheeks as you thank her for the compliment. Your eyes trail downward slightly, and you see something in her hand. Before you can ask, she lifts it up and removes some paper from around a brilliant blue bouquet made from the flowers she grows on Home.
"I meddled a bit with them; they should be preserved in time as they are, and hopefully they will never wither," Luida says softly as she hands you the beautiful flowers and you take a whiff. The scent is sweet and fresh, filling you with a sense of calm and happiness.
"I too have something for you," Milly says, coming closer with a slightly nervous look. "Or rather, Livio sent it with his apologies since he couldn't make it today."
"Oh, that's okay. Someone had to stay with the kids and birds." You smile, but then look at the little box Milly puts in your hand. "What's this?"
"Something old. Livio wanted you to have this since you and Mr. Priest were so close. He said he had this since the orphanage; apparently, it's the only thing he had from his birth parents. After he passed, Livio held on to it but always intended to give it to you." You hear the tears threaten to roll down her cheeks in Milly's voice. She has always been the emotional kind. You open the box, and inside you find a small cross pendant with no chain.
"Thank you, Milly! And give my gratitude to your dear husband too!" You smile at her reddening face as she tries to keep it together. You pick up a safety pin from the vanity and carefully fasten the cross to the inside of your dress's neckline, close to your heart.
"So, we have something old, something blue, something borrowed, and a 5 cent piece! We're only missing something new!" Granny said with glee, and before you could start to protest against any more gifts, Lena appears with a giant box.
"Lucky, we received a parcel a few days ago, and it's addressed to you!" She announces happily as she holds the box towards you. You hesitate for a moment, your fingers hovering at the edge of the box, before you remove the lid. The inside still doesn't give you a clue as to what this could be, as the item is carefully wrapped in paper, on top of which lays a small card. You pick it up to read it.
My dear!
The wonderful news has reached us here at Misdon! We are all so happy to hear that our two biggest heroes are getting married! You saved our lives and our livelihood! The whole town will forever remain in your debt, even if you didn't save the rest of the world too! We wish we could attend, but times have been busy, so we send you this gift. I hope you like it. Everyone pitched in and did a little bit!
Your friend,
Adeliene
You are reminded of your adventures in the mining town of Misdon, where bandits tried to take over the crystal mine. You and Vash had your hands full driving them out, and you had to personally protect Adeliene, the daughter of the mine owner. You even took a bullet for her. You carefully remove the paper to be greeted by a blinding shimmer. The sunlight from the window hits the content of the box and sends dots of light dancing all throughout the room. Everyone gasps at the sight. You touch the delicate translucent fabric and let your fingers run over the hundreds, if not thousands, of small crystals sown onto it. They look like constellations.
"This is gorgeous!" you whisper in awe as you continue to admire the intricate design.
"Alright! I can't wait to see it on you!" Lena seemingly shakes with excitement. "But first, we need to fix your hair!"
The young girl puts aside the box before quickly moving on to grab the hairbrush.
"We should get back! Let's make sure everything is perfect for the big day." Meryl announces and drags Milly away by the elbow, Luida quietly following them. You remain in the room with Granny and Lena, who fill your head with hairpins and finally fasten the veil to your hair.
"You are the most beautiful bride I have ever seen in my long life. We are truly blessed to call you part of the family, my love!" Granny squeezes your shoulders as you sit in your chair and gives you a kiss on the cheek. Gratitude swells in your chest as you thank Granny for her kind words and embrace her tightly.
"The big goofball is wholly your responsibility now!" Lena chuckles, giving you a playful nudge with her elbow.
As you are left alone in the room, you stand up and take a long look in the mirror. You can't help but feel a rush of excitement for what the future holds. Your face is covered by the light fabric, and as you let your fingers run over the delicate lace, the room is filled with sparkling lights dancing on every surface. This is not how you imagined the day going—to be surrounded by your friends and family, turning this day into possibly the most magical one of your entire life.
It doesn't take long for the music to start sounding from the parlor, signaling for you to make your entrance. So you head out through the backdoor as instructed and walk around the building to the large saloon style doors at the front of the house. The music sounds more clearly now and you can hear the chatter of the guests inside. You're not sure if Granny saw you from where she sits behind the piano or if someone else spotted you and signaled her, but the music changes. The beautiful melody has a different rhythm, and everyone knows to quiet down.
You take a deep breath and clutch the bouquet of flowers tightly. Two men push the sides of the doors and keep the doorway open for your entrance. All eyes turn to you, and gasps of adoration fill the space. The people standing on either side of the aisle are all people you've left a mark on. You have saved them in one way or another, and today they are here to pay their respects and celebrate with you. If you looked at them, you would see people from Kasted City and the neighboring villages, people from far and wide, but your eyes are on the dark haired man waiting for you at the end of the red carpet.
Vash's eyes are wide, and you can see the moment his lips part for a gasp. His gaze is so filled with love and adoration that you feel tears prick at the corners of your eyes. You can't believe this is happening to you. You have found such a wonderful man, and you're about to vow your everlasting devotion to each other in front of all these witnesses. And as you look into his eyes, you know that this is just the beginning of a beautiful journey together, despite everything you've been through already.
He wears a dark burgundy suit jacket, and you are sure Granny had a hand in his attire. From the chest pocket, poke out a few crystal flowers and small silver stars, catching the light and sparkling at you, mixed together with the blooms of red geraniums. He looks magnificent and handsome, and you can't help but smile at the thought of Granny and the others conspiring to make him look his best for this special occasion. You see the tears well in his eyes as he looks at your approach, and he takes half a step forward as if wanting to run towards you and lose the distance as soon as possible. However, he holds back, his emotions overwhelming him, and he lets out a small sob before brushing the tears away.
The tall windows on either side of the parlor cast light on you, and the warmth stroking your skin makes everything else fall away. In your mind, there is only you and him. Together, as always. As you reach him, a smile is painted on your face, so wide it almost hurts. He reaches out his hand, and you gently take it, feeling the electricity between your fingertips.
"My beautiful Stardust! You make the night sky jealous!" he says as the two of you stand there, basking in each other's presence, knowing that you are each other's forever.
Meryl, who has taken in her position as officiant, lets out a small cough to wake the two of you from your trance. You take another step forward without letting go of the man you love, ready to start the next chapter of your lives together.
Meryl begins the ceremony, speaking with a warm and calming voice that fills you with joy and excitement. She thanks the guests and begins to share heartfelt words about the love and dedication you both have shown towards each other. But you can barely hear her as you steal glances of the man standing beside you. His handsome silhouette and glimmering eyes as they meet yours fill you with butterflies. You can feel your heart racing with anticipation as he gently squeezes your hand.
"My dear friends, the bride and groom, I ask you to look into each other's eyes," Meryl speaks, and you turn to face your soon-to-be husband. The love and adoration in his eyes overwhelms you, confirming that you are about to marry the person of your dreams. He still holds your hand, but lifts it up a bit as he faces you. "Will you honor and respect one another and seek to never break that honor?"
"We will," you both say devotedly.
"Will you share each other's pain and seek to ease it?"
"We will."
"Will you share the burdens with each other so that your spirits may grow in this union?"
"We will."
"Will you share each other's laughter and look for the brightness in life and the positive in each other?"
"We will."
"Dear bride and groom, as you bind your souls together here, in front of people who adore you, may your spirits be joined in a union of love and trust. Above you are the stars, and below you is the earth. Like the stars, your love should be a constant source of light, and like the earth, it should be a firm foundation from which to grow. Let your love guide you through the darkest of times, and may it always be a beacon of hope in the storm. Do you have vows of your own you would like to share?"
"Yes," Vash speaks as his eyes stay on yours. "My love, you are the one person with whom I can share all that I am. I promise to trust you and to be honest with you. I promise to listen to you, respect you, and support you. I promise to laugh and play with you and grow and bend with you. I promise to cherish every day we have together. I promise to do all of this through whatever life brings us—richness or poverty, health or illness, through good times and bad—until the end of my days. And beyond this, I will cherish and honor you through this life and the next."
Lena steps forward with a small pillow, and Vash takes a golden ring from it. He releases your right hand, and you take your flowers into it so he can gently slide the ring onto the ring finger of your left hand. He bows down and places a small kiss on the band. You have Lena take your bouquet so you can tightly hold onto both of Vash's hands, feeling overwhelmed with love and joy.
"My love, I choose you. We shall walk side by side, through sunshine and storms, health and sickness, good times and bad. We will meet whatever comes together. Under the starry night sky and in the scorching desert heat. I promise to love you forever and a day. My love, I choose you to be my partner in life and always. Our love endures, forever and a day." You make your promises while looking into his tear filled eyes, your own vision blurring from the emotions too. You pick up the golden ring and slide it on his prosthetic hand. You whisper, "I will never leave your side, no matter what challenges come our way."
"And with that, I pronounce you husband and wife!" Meryl's cheerful voice sounds over the room. "You may kiss the bride!"
Vash carefully takes the edge of the veil between his fingers before he lifts it up, revealing your face completely. He lets the veil fall over your head and gently takes your face into his hands, planting a soft kiss on your lips to seal your marriage. You feel overwhelmed with love and happiness as you realize that this is just the beginning of your life together. The whole room erupts into cheers and applause, celebrating your love and new journey as a married couple.
As he pulls away, you look into his tender face, and he mouths a silent I love you. Lena hands back your bouquet, and hand-in-hand, you walk through the room again, now with Vash by your side. Feeling like the luckiest person in the world, you head out of the parlor as the people gathered throw colorful confetti at you. Further away, from the city's chapel, you hear bells echoing over the desert.

Could it be possible for you to write a lena Luther x male cowboy reader? Lena takes a trip to the country side and meets Reader who's the one who works with the horses he has the whole souther charm you know the whole hot cowboy aesthetic
Tumblr media
Lena Luthor x Male!reader
Following a lead that her mother may have spent some time living in a small town called Sutton Hills in Kansas, Lena decided to spend the summer there hoping to learn more about her.
You and your family owned a cattle ranch outside this town and you were doing some of your daily tasks when you saw a woman standing next to her broken down car on the road in front of your home.
"You must not be from around here or else you'd know high heels and dirt roads don't mix," you laugh, riding up to her on your horse with two cattle dogs running behind you.
"I think the engine overheated," she tells you, the hood of the car popped with some steam coming out of it.
"Let me take a look," you say hopping off your horse and taking a peak, "yep looks like you're out of coolant, let me call my buddy who works at the auto shop in town and he can drop some off," you tell her pulling your phone out and sending a text to your friend, "it'll be at least an hour till he can get here and it's hot as hell out, do you want to come inside for a drink? My mom just made a pitcher of fresh lemonade. Oh and I'm Y/N by the way, this sweet girl is Dakota and those two are Scout and Jasper."
Every horror movie ever says that she shouldn't go inside a complete strangers home especially in the middle of a small town but the summer sun wasn't the only thing that was hot out here, your cowboy chic and matching accent was quite charming to say the least and your horse and dogs were pretty cute as well.
"Sure, lemonade sounds nice and I'm Lena," she replies.
"So where are you from Lena?" You ask guiding her towards your home, tying your horse to a post in the shade next to a water trough.
"National City," she says as you walk up the front steps.
"That's in California right? What are you doing all the way out here in Kansas," you ask, opening the door and letting her inside, taking your cowboy hat off and hanging it on the rack.
"This might sound crazy but I think my mom lived here about 30 years ago, she died when I was young and I was just hoping to learn more about her," she explains.
You walk into the kitchen and pull the pitcher of lemonade from the fridge pouring two glasses and handing her one, "that's not crazy at all, what was her name?"
"Elizabeth Walsh."
"Elizabeth Walsh? Hmm, that names sounds familiar," you say when your mom enters the kitchen, "hey ma this is Lena, her car broke down out front. She's in town looking for some information about her mom who lived here a couple decades ago. Maybe you knew her, names Elizabeth Walsh."
"Oh yeah I knew Elizabeth, we worked at the convenience store together before I married your father Y/N," your mom says.
Lena coughs, choking on the lemonade she was drinking, "wait you really knew her?"
"Sure did, real sweet girl and everyone loved her. She lived here for two or three years if I remember correctly," she responds.
"Do you happen to know where she went after Sutton Hills?" Lena asks.
"Last time I saw her she came into the store to quit, told me she met a man from Smallville not far from here and she was leaving to be with him," your mom tells her, "you know she left me a few of her journals, said she wanted to keep them safe."
"What was inside them?" Lena questions having a feeling she knew the answer.
"No clue, they all had locks on them not that I would have even felt right reading them, I put them in a box in the attic somewhere I can have Y/N look for them if you'd like," she offers.
"Y/N you would be doing me a huge favor," Lena says.
"No problem, I'd be happy to look for them," you reply.
"Mind if I help you?"
"Follow me," you smile at her and she blushes.
Up in the attic you start moving some boxes, looking for ones with more dust on them that haven't been touched in a while.
You spend twenty minutes looking through boxes, getting to know Lena when you finally find what you were looking for.
"These must be it, I wonder why she put locks on them," you say handing them over to Lena.
"I think I know why," Lena states, running her fingers over the lock of the first journal.
"Not sure how you're gonna open them, those locks don't even have a slot for a key, your mom must have some pretty interesting secrets," you chuckle.
"You don't know the half of it," she mutters, she already had a few spells in mind that she would try to get the locks open but you didn't need to know that.
Your phone buzzes and you see a text from your friend, "James is here, let's get your car cooled down and you'll be good to go."
Outside you and James pour the new bottle of coolant into the radiator of her rental car.
"You're all set," you say popping the hood back into place.
"Thank you Y/N, and thank your mom for the journals, you don't know how much this means to me," she says hugging you.
"It's my pleasure Lena and I hope you enjoy your summer in Sutton Hills," you tell her.
"Well maybe if you aren't too busy you can be my tour guide, maybe even take me on a ride on your horses," she suggests.
"Why don't we have breakfast tomorrow at Sal's diner, it's right next door to the motel you're staying in," you say.
"How's 9 o'clock sound?"
"I'll be done with my morning chores by then, 9 sounds perfect."
"Great I'll see you tomorrow," she says opening the car door, "and thanks for the coolant James."
"No problem," he replies and you wave at her as she drives off into town, "don't tell me you're falling for that city girl, I saw the way you were looking at her," James laughs..
"Aren't you the one who's always telling me I can't spend all my time on the ranch?" You joke.
"You didn't even get her last name," he teases.
"I'll get it tomorrow when I'm having breakfast with the beautiful woman from California unlike you," you crack back.
"Alright farm boy have fun fulfilling some fairy tale romance."
"I sure will, there's something special about her I just can't put my finger on it."
There certainly was something special about Lena and maybe you'd just be lucky enough to find out this summer.

Fem gip spider girl- Phoebe Parker part 2
Part one
(I might make this into an actual Fic.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fluff, mentions of intimacy, possessives, golden retriever x black cat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Phoebe grabbed the glasses from the cabinet as she helped Kara prepare dinner for her and her annual friends night.
When she started dating the blonde superhero, she didn’t realize how different her and Kara actually were, but that’s what made them perfect together.
Kara’s golden retriever energy lightening up the room, whole Phoebe black cat energy threatens anyone who dare disturb Kara.
“You don’t have to stay if you don’t want to.” Kara tells her, walking to her as she came back from the living room.
“This is important to you, babe, I’m fine. Just your friends.” Phoebe muses as she was her won boss anyway, her and Lena going 50/50 on the company due to both of them being billionaires and well Phoebe loved working, especially photography. Reporting just came with the job.
Phoebe rolled up her sleeves, revealing the tattoos she had prior to getting bitten by a spider. Her black silk shirt matching her dark aesthetic as a silver necklace hanged from her neck. It was a matching one with Kara.
She had supergirls symbol while Kara had a spider. And the some of the many rings Kara got her her littered her fingers.
“You get the door, I got the pasta.” Phoebe tells her as her hair was in a lose pony tail, her black curls showing off.
Kara stiffened for a second, signaling she was listening to the footsteps walking towards her door.
“Just a sec.” Kara tells her, grabbing her face and pulling her in for a lingering kiss knowing Alex would be too over protective to let her kiss her girlfriend. Older siblings were a pain in the ass.
“Your cute.” Phoebe muses, watching her walk off before taking the Pasta out the oven, mixing the salad in a giant bowl with a salad grabber thing? Phoebe didn’t really pay attention to what Kara told her it was. Too busy staring at the blonde.
She brought it all the to the table as Kara greeted her friends, opening the door for them.
“It smells great, Kara!” Winn hums as the smell hits their noses.
“Thanks!” Kara smiles widely, proud of herself even though Phoebe had to make 99%, the on 1% helping put the cheese on the pasta. Phoebe didn’t mind as long as it made Kara happy.
“Hey Miss. Patera.” Winn greets her, still not used to seeing his boss outside of work.
“Please, Phoebe outside of work.” Phoebe tells him, giving him a brief smile before walking back into the kitchen.
“Damn.” Kelly mumbles to Kara as her, Lena, and Alex gawk at the woman who was currently grabbing wine from the cabinet.
“I know.” Kara tells her, starring at her girlfriend as she could practically hear the cocky smirk she was wearing.
“Babe? Could you bring the ranch in here?” Kara asks her as she walks towards the table, setting the napkins out once she breaks her trance.
“On it.” Phone calls back out, grabbing the sauce before walking into the kitchen. The wine bottle in her other hand as she sat next to Kara.
~~~
“Uno!” Kara calls out as she leans back into Phoebe, sitting in her lap as she played Uno with her friends.
Phoebe on her phone as she went online shopping, buying more things for Kara, who could see it.
“Attached to your phone, much?” James comments, narrowing his eyes at Pheobe. His comment creating unwanted tension.
“Have something to say?” Pheobe looks up at him, raising an eyebrow in a challenging way.
“It’s friends night.” James laughs, although no one laughs with him. “Phones aren’t typically allowed.”
“James-“ Kara glares at the man, annoyed with his constant jealousy.
“It’s fine, he’s right.” Pheobe hits order on her shopping cart which was really a bunch of stuff for Kara before putting her phone down.
Lena looks at Pheobe knowing the woman well enough, hiding her smirk.
Pheobe grabs the cards, shuffling them through her fingers, slightly showing off.
~~~
“Reverse. Reverse again, plus four, change the color to red and uno.” Pheobe calls out her cards as she sets it down before setting her last card down, winning the game, and leaving James with about 24 cards.
“Should have warned you she was a pro at Uno, banned her from playing.” Lena laughs, as James looks at his cards and back up at the woman who kicked his ass.
Kara stiffens as she hears something in the distance, police sirens and crashing. “Babe. could you help me get the mail?” Kara turns to her.
Pheobe focuses on her hearing, hearing the sirens too. “Of course.” Pheobe smiles, allowing Kara to get up before following her out.
“Are they?” Lena turns to Kelly who smirks. “Go little Danvers.”
“Hey hey hey, they did not sneak off to…” Alex shivers in disgust.
Before she could get up, super girl flies past the window, with Spidergirl swinging behind her, showing off as she flung past the window.
“That explains a lot.” Winn muses, putting two and two together.
“What? How?” James rushes to the window, watching them swing and fly off.
~~~
Pheobe lands on Kara’s balcony, roses in her hand as she takes off her mask, walking into the building.
“You didn’t-“ Kara walks over to her, bringing her in for a hug, making sure not to smoosh the flowers.
“Here, my love.” Phoebe’s Russian accent showing as she grabs a box from her pocket.
Kara’s eyes widen in pure happiness, making Phoebe smile at her. “Open it.” Phoebe tells her, setting the flowers in a vase.
Kara opened it to find a rose ring, decked out in diamonds as a sapphire sat in the middle.
“Babe- I-“ Kara’s words got stuck in her throat as she put the ring on her right ring finger.
Phoebe walks up behind her, wrapping her arms around Kara’s waist.
“You deserve the world, Mon amour.” Phoebe kisses her neck, her black of her suit contrasting to Kara’s pastel clothes.
Phoebe pulls Kara back into her as Kara lets her head fall back onto her shoulder, enjoying the attention.
Kara gasps softly, turning around so she was facing Phoebe. “I love you.”
“I love you more.” Phoebe smiles, pulling her in for a kiss, her hands trailing down to the blondes waist, gripping it.
“Show me.” Kara tells her softly against her lips. Getting a smirk from the spider superhero.
“Jump” Phoebe mumbles against her lips as Kara wouldn’t let them part for a second. Following the command Kara jumps, Phoebe grabbing her thighs for her legs to wrap around the superhero’s waist as Phoebe walks them into the bedroom, not disconnecting their lips for a second.
WHO: Lena & @treywright
WHERE: Harmony Ranch
WHEN: Creek Fest (September, 2024)
Having an afternoon to herself, away from the hustle and bustle of people coming in and out of Universal Rocks, Lena had decided to take the hay ride over to Harmony Ranch, visit the petting zoo, maybe hop into the sunflower maze, pick up some fresh baked goods to take home with her. But first, rabbits. She swished the coffee in her cup, making her way towards the petting zoo, and wasted no time in paying for several cups of food, emptying some onto her palm. Reaching down to offer pellets to a nearby goat, she bumped hands with someone doing the same, letting out a laugh. "Oh! Looks like you had your eyes on this little guy, too."
Sweet Love-Chapter 7
Fandom: Supergirl
Relationships: Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor, Alex Danvers/Kelly Olsen
Characters: Kara Danvers, Lena Luthor, Alexa Luthor-Danvers (OC), Liza Luthor-Danvers (OC), Jess, Lillian Luthor, Alex Danvers, Kelly Olsen, Krypto, Mable Longhorn (OC)
Summary: Lena is stressed about family and work decisions that need to be made. Kara believes that a family vacation to the Danvers' family ranch will get her mind off of things. However, the more they find out about the history of the place, the more they realize that the place holds quite a few hidden secrets.
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6
As Lena walked through the horse stalls some more, she zoned in on a particular horse. It was chestnut colored with blonde hair. It had white small splotches on its left side that looked like raindrops. Lena’s eyes grew wide when she realized that she had seen these before.
She turned around and asked, “Hey Kara, can you come here?”
She quickly came over to her and kissed her on the cheek.
“Is everything okay?”
Lena pointed at the horse startled.
“Doesn’t this look like Rain to you?”
Kara looked at the horse more closely and started smiling really brightly.
“This is her!”
Lena reached out to pet her and the horse’s nose met her hand and nuzzled it.
“How is this possible?”
“The horses were the only original animals that I was able to get back.”
Lena nearly jumped in her own skin. She turned around to see her mom standing right next to her.
“A little bit of a warning next time,” muttered Lena as she tried to control back her breathing.
“So quickly forgot that you guys weren’t the only ones in here?” smirked Lillian.
“You know that isn’t it,” pouted Lena.
Lena looked back over to Rain whose nose was trying to nuzzle her hair. Normally, Lena would be irritated, but she smiled and petted Rain instead. She turned back and gave her mom a quizzical look.
“How were you able to get the horses back?”
“The new owners wanted to make use of the riding trails and offer it as a service to the new homeowners in the area.”
Kara shook her head while patting Rain.
“They were really trying to milk everything for what it’s worth,” muttered Kara.
“Would it make you feel better that the horses were well taken care of while away from the ranch?”
“Yes,” said Kara rolling her eyes.
“Well good. I originally came over to tell you that everyone has picked out a horse and is ready to go.”
Lena looked back and did indeed see the girls, Alex, and Kelly all saddled and waiting on their horses. She looked back sheepishly at her mother.
“We’ll hurry up!.”
Kara went off to quickly find a horse. Lena let Rain out of his stall. As she saddled up, she began to think about the first time she went horse riding with Kara on the ranch.
15 years ago
Lena had a lovely night with Mable and Kara. She especially loved that Mable told very embarrassing stories about Kara from childhood. She had never seen Kara’s face get so bright red before. It was adorable.
The next day Mable suggested that they should definitely do horse riding and then camping. As they walked with their supplies to the horse stables, Lena noticed the other customers as they walked through the ranch. Some of them would just stare at her. Given her family’s history, Lena was used to being stared at, but this seemed different. Usually, people stared at her with judgment in their eyes. However, the people that she has seen so far have been staring at her like they wanted to dissect her which creeped her out.
There were two people in particular that seemed to be following them. It was two twin ladies. They had skin that almost looked like the color of snow and black long hair. The chilling thing was their eyes. They seemed unusually large with their dark brown irises staring back at you. It gave Lena goosebumps. They had notepads with them and were continuously writing in them without looking down. It was unnerving. Lena quickly tapped on Kara’s arm and motioned her closer.
“I think we are being followed,” whispered Lena into Kara’s ear.
Kara looked down at her with concern.
“Where?”
Lena pointed slightly behind her.
“They are behind us about 30 ft back.”
For this next Act, more interludes from other characters will happen. This one is all about Andrea and Alex. Let's dig into their demons. Also, Kelly gets a fun arc -- she will eventually have an interlude too. Got to weave all the threads in Act 2, so we can see the full tapestry in Act 3. EXCERPT:
Andrea followed Alex up a spiral staircase of a nondescript apartment complex. Andrea sighted at least seven DEO agents in civilian clothes. Most were faces she recognized due to her infiltration of the DEO for them. That knowledge left her uneasy, but she refused to let anyone see it. She kept her expression neural, her armor at its highest.
Neither of them spoke. Andrea felt unsettled still about the meeting the other day. The way Lena’s sword had effortlessly sliced through a metal table, and how Lena glowed silver-gold while holding it — that had been a terrifying sight. The little vial Lena had given her she had wrapped in cloth in her pocket, but if it truly kept her safe, Andrea didn’t know.
She still couldn’t wrap her mind around the fact Lena had magic. Where had it come from? Had she always had it and just kept it a secret? No one gave her any answers. And as much as Sam had grown to like her — Andrea wished she hadn’t — Sam never answered any of her questions about Lena. Her loyalty was steadfast.
And now she’d broken Sam’s trust. Last night had been painful. Sam aloof and estranged, and Andrea too prideful to beg for forgiveness. Instead, they had a tense silence, only broken when Kelly and Ruby dropped in since Kelly and Alex would now be in the penthouse below them. Andrea wasn’t sure what to think of that, or the fact that Lena owned it all. Where was Lena even staying?
Alex reached the top of the stairs and glanced at Andrea. “You sure you want to go through with this? He said no when we asked if you could see him.” A hint of concern wavered in Alex’s voice.
Which was weird to hear. It had been a long time since people had been concerned for her. “I must. He is angry, that is the only reason he declined. But he deserves the truth.” Her guilt seared her; she’d lied to him so much to keep him safe. Would he forgive her?
Alex nodded and led her to a door at the end of the hallway. Everything about the place stank of sterility. No colors, the rugs a dull grey, and the doors metal monstrosities. For a safe house, it felt more like a prison than anything else.
Alex unlocked the door and pushed it open. “Sr. Rojas?” She smiled and waved. “¿Cómo estás?”
Hearing Alex speak Spanish surprised Andrea. She didn’t know the director knew it.
“Bien,” came her father’s rich baritone voice. “I take it she is here?” His English was heavily accented; hearing it brought back memories of her youth in Patagonia. Homesickness twisted her stomach.
She missed their ranch in Argentina. The mountains loomed like sentinels, a harsh dry wind blowing down their crags, while rivers cut deep valleys and followed into the steppe grasslands. Farmhands handled the sheep on the ranch, while her father had spent most of his time teaching her the ways of business.
She recalled the long horse rides across the steppes, over rocky outcroppings and past craggy hills. Her father had pointed out each unique feature, his stories rich and full of fantastical lore. She’d been devastated when he sent her to boarding school; losing her mother had broken him.
She’d hated it at first until she’d met Lena. Lena had helped her recover, to forgive him for sending her away.
Now she was no longer welcome at home or really anywhere. Not after what she’d done.
Re: Twisters
As an Okie myself I'm torn. Because on the one hand, just the THOUGHT of Katie Mcgrath attempting a Southern Drawl brings tears to my eyes. (So many times it's wayyy too exaggerated. But we do say y'all consistently. And I will have no peace if I keep imagining Katie Mcgawwww herself calling "y'all come back now, ya hear!") But on the other, Kate in the movie is known for being able to mask her roots well, so maybe I shouldn't get so hung up on it. I will say, Kara being the one canonically enamored with the Wizard of Oz could still be the inspiration for her wrangling career. And the idea of Lena returning to her mother's humble ranch and showing Kara all of her old science projects in the barn while a good old fashioned Oklahoma rainstorm gently patters on the tin roof is kinda sweet to imagine.
*fun fact! The scene in Twisters where Kate and Tyler first meet, in between those grain silos, was filmed just outside my home town!
I always love casting Lena outside her type. Let her have some fun yall!
angelina & ivy & fleetwood & honey & veronica & graceland all musicians or songwriters and could easily have friendships and opinions between the group especially about who they are dating or keeping around them at the time. fans, rivals, producers, songwriters, dancers, bands, the options are limitless. hell, journalist? chicken shop date shit? asmodeus & lila work together at the supernatural version of the good company. patrons, supernaturals in need, there's a lot of room to play with these two. bo & sawyer & maggie & sosh & tyler & libby laura & susanna & lori & ward & ingrid & nellie & drew obviously all live on the golden ranch, or have spent a lot of time at the golden ranch. rival ranchers? rodeo competitors? an ex from the past, buckle bunnies, the law, conservation officers, locals, a well of options. booker & rory & coen & josie are all part of the eden family. very messy. lots of connections to be had. significant others play best in this production, especially when coming from coen's corner. boone & claire & odyssey & lydia odyssy and lydia are close friends of boone, who slings weed, especially to lydia. claire disapproves of all three. someone buying drugs? a friend from a party? someone claire's chasing but who knows boone better, honestly, this can get really messy if we want it to. cobie & icarus & royal & millie & elena it's called the nepo club. you can be born into you, you can be adopted as a pet, you could try to save someone from the club. lots of space to play here. seeking additional nepo babies, someone from the outside, savior, pet, someone who got out of the life, just, there's so many options here? money can get you basically anything tbh. darius & francis & erik & lila all work at or are connected to the good company bar (nonsupernatural edition), or to the landon crime family. an assassination target? someone saved from death? someone owing the landons? someone looking for safety or protection from the landons? someone caught in a bad deal who has to be brought in? dima & lev & roman & lena & sasha three brothers, all working for koschei the deathless (which leaves a lot of room to mess around with) and two sisters, all working for the baba yaga (who has a longstanding rivalry with koschei) someone who's playing both sides or someone who works for one side but loves the other (hello romeo & juliet lovers), someone who is getting pulled into the life. halen & lita & alice hello dysfunctional and judgmental siblings. much drama. this is another where the significant other really can play well. these three do not play well together, so anyone walking into that is walking into danger. lena & madelaine & maryam all working in the medical field, easy to tie together actually. even easier to form connections with in that same field. doctor, nurse, tech, admin, patients, family of patients. hello hospital nonsense. koa & perry small business owners stick together. and frequently talk shit together over coffee or cosmos. favorite customers? worst patrons? connections galore. honey & poppy & romeo i don't know if you know that i love a set of siblings. meet the girlfriend? meet the boyfriend? meet the lover? please, the messes and miracles made with these three and their extended connections are a dream. winnie & lila sisters & witches who lead familiar lives, with different opinions. i would love to see some confrontation between a connection of these two.
@colecassiidy asked:
"don't sweat too much, now," He grins, "horse might just mistake you for a salt lick." //smthing smthing, post-prison road trip and they're out for some horseback :^)
Lena was in no mood for his jokes. How he managed to coax her out to this farm in the middle of nowhere, New Mexico, was still beyond her comprehension. While he had been the one driving, Lena regretted not speaking up the moment the sparse towns faded away to dusty farms and lifestock ranches. Vegas was the promised destination, a glittering city with trouble aplenty and the bustle of city life, of people. But instead, Lena was forced to watch with growing trepidation as he turned the old truck up a dirt drive, and eventually to the barn of a public farm.
Horseback Parking Here, read the sign affixed to the front of faded red barn. Part of her was incredulous that these things actually existed, and weren't some figment of Western media construction. Another part of her wondered about the stability of the weather-worn boards that sagged against the years.
Lena was built for speed, for the warm hum of gear-against-gear, fingers slicked with brown oil and the wind against her hair. Already, the trip in the old truck - you need the full experience, Cole had sworn, as they prepared for the journey - had worn her nerves thin with the slipping transmission and clicking idle. And now he wanted her to get onto a beast with a mind of its own, and trust that all would be okay. Great. Just, great.
"Right." Her voice was tight as she watched the herd gather in a nearby field. "Listen, I'll try a lot, but I dunno about this one. 'ave you seen how big they are?! I'd rather jump out of a plane I think."
