He could earn plenty of money other ways such as taking up odd jobs, carrying out bounties, etc. So when he started dating your high maintenance self, he knew he'd have to up his earnings in order to provide for you (partner lemme Upgrade U). He's a simple man after all - why wouldn't he wanna provide for you, even if it was just by giving you a few hundred dollars to run your errands? Quite possibly the only thing that he kept from his family was his provider mentality. Never again would he see someone close to him suffer or starve because of his shortcomings.

Hearing the car pull into the lot, Toji knew it was you when you came home from the music that he could hear through the walls—that infectious late 90s beat creeping through his veins. He paused the MMA fight he was watching, turning around as the door hinges creaked open.

"Tojiii, I’m home!" you sang from the doorway, putting your keys away in your cute little Dior saddle (the one Toji got you after saving up several paychecks). Do you have any tips or advice for running an artists booth at a convention? I'm thinking about doing it eventually and been wanting to hear from people who have done it before :^)

yeah!!! lemme rattle off a few things off the top a my head also, pardon me 4 using amazon dot ca links for products that i mention. its just easy to find references that way (and often u can look up the brand and find their non-amazon store etc etc)

this got super long so im putting it under a cut!!

• join an artist alley group!! i'm in this artist alley discord and it is a fantastic place to get info about cons, table display ideas, manufacturer recommendations, etc. there are more than just this group out there and i think there are bigger ones but i personally really like this one ^u^ i make a ton of use of the display resources and manu recommendation channels!

• if you can afford it, be choosy about the events you apply to. there are a lot of cons out there that are fantastic, and a lot that aren't worth the trouble, and i don't necessarily mean small vs big cons. some of my fav events are smaller artist alleys local to me, and most of the artists i know avoid informa (fanexpo) like the plague. check out what other artists have to say about past events and keep an eye out for red flags: personally i find cons with really out of date/poorly advertised social medias and websites that have mismatched info are a warning sign of a mismanaged and not well attended event. • you don't need a lot of fancy display stuff to start, those sorts of things you can build up over time. im a fan of getting a ton of my display stuff from the dollar store >:)

when you're ready and need the space to display a good amount of art the main thing you wanna pick up is definitely something that gives your table some verticality, whether that's a pvc pipe style setup, pegboards, or modular cube shelving (we all used to use these big heavy grid ones until the plastic sheet covered ones came out and now we all use those. theyre cuter and lighter and fit better on a table and come in more colours yayay. im sure some people still like the grid ones since they fit gridwall accessories tho) there are lots of other ways to display stuff but these r what i am most familiar with. definitely helps to look at youtube and pinterest and discord groups for display ideas!!

another thing you will want to start is a tablecloth. not every con has their tables already covered! there are those plastic picnic ones at dollar stores, and you can thrift bedsheets/fabric too.

• depending on the type of display and art you do you'll need some way to attach signs/prints/charms/etc to your display. i just moved from blu-tack to magnets but i used to use sewing clips (back when i used the grid cubes) and before then masking tape. all of them are okay and cool! except blu-tack. don't make the same mistakes as me it adds like 40 whole minutes to teardown and it leaves gross oil on the prints after some time. evil

• if you don't have business cards you can make a sign with a qr code that links to you/your shop! there are lots of qr code makers online that u can even customize with images and colours and stuff. there will be people that wanna know how to find you again after a con!

• these days a lot of people don't bring cash to conventions and it's pretty vital to bring some sort of card reader or other digital payment method. most of us use square - they recently made it so that the phone app can accept tap! so you don't need to jump for the expensive physical readers. i've also got a paypal dot me qr code and my etransfer email (i think this is a canadian thing) on a lil sign on the table so people have lots of payment options. usually over 50% of my con income comes from non-cash sales!

• make sure to bring change!! we've forgotten in the past and done okay but it's always handy to be able to make change for people. you'll want a secure place to put cash as well, whether it's a locked moneybox that you keep out of sight or a place on your person (friend of mine uses a fanny pack!) you never wanna leave your table completely unattended but especially when it comes to the moneybox. if it's a multi day con this is an item you mustn't leave at your table overnight.

• keep count of your sales and expenses properly so that you can see how much you made at the end of the con. i really like spreadsheets but you can even just note it down in a book. here's a little example of one con for me:

• you'll want to make a checklist of stock and display stuff to bring, but don't forget to make a list of minor stuff like phone chargers and scissors and tape and glue and pens and paper. multiple types of tape and paper if possible. they don't feel super important until you're stuck because you forgot to make a price sign and have to get by with a sharpie and a napkin. don't let that be you!! dollar store sticky note pads are super useful for this type of thing.

• plan out your prices and do as much prep (counting, sign making, display planning, packing/sorting) as you can beforehand so that the event doesn't feel too stressful. make sure your merchandise is stored in an easily accessible way for you behind the table so you aren't scrambling or rummaging too much when people are asking for stuff!

• similarly, whatever you can leave out for people to just pick/grab themselves, the more of it you're likely to sell. things like stickers and charms are good for this - people like to touch stuff! and it makes it so you don't need to go fishing for items for people as frequently. generally i don't do this with more expensive items just to be safe.

• if you sell prints, people are gonna ask for sleeves to keep them safe, especially at outdoor events. sometimes people ask for sleeves/bags even if they dont buy anything. they're a good idea to have on hand and you can find em for pretty cheap online and for a bit more expensive at dollar stores (i use OPP bags. if you dont wanna use plastic you can always get paper bags/envelopes/glassine bags instead)

• a cushion for the chair is a good idea. lots of conventions have really uncomfy chairs. some folks even bring camping chairs instead!

• pack snacks/lunch/water/drinks/have lunch plans. if you have a table buddy that is able to run out for food that's always nice. you might be sitting but it uses a lot of energy to interface all day!! you'll be exhausted and hungry and it's gonna be important to get enough fuel for your brain to function properly. i genuinely would recommend juice/soda/coffee/energy dink alongside water and food if you wanna live, especially if its a multi day con. get good sleep on days between!

• if you're excited to do trades with other artists during the con, the general etiquette is to wait until later in the day/near the end when the crowds are winding down! it's always okay to ask if someone's doing trades, and don't be upset or press them if they aren't interested or have certain stuff they don't want to trade.

• speaking of con etiquette, depending on the type of vert you are (intro/extro) and or how much customer service experience you have, interfacing can be nervewracking. my general rule is that if they stop to look, i say Hello and let them browse. if they seem interested in my table i try and do some small talk. stuff like How are you/How's the event been for ya/compliments on their outfit/cosplay/merch they have on like pins etc are good! kids and old folks love this. as tiring as it is to do some of my favourite parts of cons is talking to nice people that like my art!! all the folks that say nice things about my work are what keep me drawing ;w; i keep my sketchbook with me to jot down/doodle nice and funny encounters just cus it makes me happy to look back on XD

• when it's teardown time try to put stuff away as neatly as you can. you might be tired and just wanna toss all your stuff into whatever it is you brought it in but i promise future you (especially next-con you) will be so thankful that you put all your price signs into one baggie etc etc.

• speaking of bringing and putting away merch - you'll need a way to get it all from your home/car to your table and back. lots of people use dollies and other types of utility cart (i can guarantee there are a bunch of those grandma grocery ones at your local thrift store!!) - i personally use a big luggage bag and a collapsible wagon, but back in the day we used to CARRY bin after bin of stuff from the car and back in multiple trips which i would NOT reccomend lol. not every convention hall is easily accessible or close to parking so not having to lift stuff if you can avoid it is gonna be vital.

Not an idea but a thought to a question that came up,

I've realized now that you've brought up kitchen use...and carmen mixing up salt and sugar cause they can't taste....

How are they gonna feed MC? like, is she gonna be fed take out? From your last answer to the ask, Tanya definitely isn't gonna want to let her cook when MC's attention could be on her,

But let's say Carmen, who wants to work on humaning tries to make her a meal...

I've just had a realization that they've lived for quite some time, and it's been a long time since any of them were people who required food and used a kitchen in such a manner,

Like, I assume they'd have been taught to cook within their time periods before when they were still humans growing up,

But also, how well do they truly remember those recipes from, say (carmen was turned in the 1700s? and tanya kate and irina 1000s?) so like centuries to millenia old recipes that they partially remember from their time when they were still human if they even remember at all that is (don't get me started on if they can't find the necessary ingredient for some old dish that they assume MC will love)

Like they don't eat human food unless MC offered and is watching them 👀 and they think it'll score them some points or infuriate Tanya(getting off track whoops) and haven't cooked for way way WAY longer,

And they technically could follow a recipe, but at the same time, what are the odds that one of them go

"I feel like this needs more seasoning, the amount the recipe lists honestly sounds like it'll turn out bland in proportion to the volume of liquid in here already"

*proceeds to add in a cup of salt to the stew or whatever it is they're trying to cook*

"don't want it to be under seasoned"

*dumps in half a cup of saffron and cinnamon*

"I used to make this all the time when I was human....now how much of this spice did I need?"

Or how some people go "measure with your heart" and pours in a mega ton of whatever other ingredient

And they wouldn't be able to know that it's bad or overly seasoned since it's human food in the first place.

Unless they actually follow a recipe for something or make simple foods that actually turn out edible.

Like MC is gonna either have take out, home cooked overly seasoned to the point that it's questionable if edible meals, old old recipes, or idk maybe like instant meals. At least until they hopefully give in to letting MC cook

But also like imagining Tanya at first trying to cook for MC to get her to warm up to her and maybe thinking she can try to gain her affections by feeding her her cooking or whatever, but it just goes no.

I´ve been thinking about that as well, actually. Quite often.

Like yes, I defo think they got some recipes that they´ve frequently cooked up as humans, especially Carmen. Yall can´t tell me that woman wouldn´t serve MC some Spanish cuisine like a true chef-

She used to. But it´s been years since then. I do think they kinda remember the things that were most important to them as humans, but it´s probs fading more and more the longer they wander this earth. In the end, it´s nothing more than an echo - still there, but just out of reach.

BUT-

Good thing she´s got her vampy brain. It´s faster. More capable. Stores information better. All MC´s gotta do is make damn sure those jars are properly labeled (salt, sugar, etc.) and we´re good. 💪

It might take a bit (like, 2 days probs) but, before long, Carmen will have read any and every book about Spanish cuisine there is, and she WILL work her way through every single recipe, and she WILL cook them all up, if it´s the last thing she does.

Tanya´s probs gonna take one look at that recipe and go like "Hmm, okay yeah sounds legit but no" and yknow, just put her own spin on it because there´s no way she´s just gonna copy someone. Especially when it comes to doing anything for MC. (She must stand out.)

(We´re not gonna talk about the fact that she still kinda copies someone by using that recipe in the first place. No, we´re not.)

She´s Tanya Denali, head of the Denali coven, and she will NOT rely on others when it comes to providing for MC. Not on her watch. She´s gonna use Carmen´s recipe and morph it into something that screams "Tanya Denali". (Only Tanya knows what that means, I´m afraid.)

This statement is what encapsulates his whole cognition. Lemme explain.

tw: su**cide mention, religion & existential philosophy

I've seen some takes saying that Aventurine embodies Absurdism and I agree completely. Even though he has his own need to search for the rain even knowing it's end, there's still the underlying doubt that it's somewhat pointless. He still hopes for something, a revelation of sorts, even if very buried in deep skepticism, there's still a part of him that wonders if the he's really destined. And for all intents and purposes he should believe it given that whenever he attempts the near impossible, he somehow always manages to escape.

However that's where the rational kicks in, and the perfect lining of events unfold as according to the plan erasing whatever factor of luck may have been present there. As he accepts both fates, he is ready to roll and adapt with whatever outcome, denying then the actual point of "chance" as most bets are binary and easy to assert each possibility. If you bet between red and black, the answers will always just be red or black.

Where the blessing shines though is on what he cannot predict. I'll use his rescue from Nihility as example cause it's the easiest illustration of this. The outcome of going through the Nihility was either to survive or not. Possibilities that he assumed would be done alone, as his talk with Acheron suggest that there is a chance he'd make it on his own. Argenti finding him while in Nihility is the true surprise factor, it's no longer red or black, it's off the table. A possibility he did not consider and that forces him to accept the luck factor.

So yes, in this sense, he embodies Absurdism as even in a setting where there should be a fixed outcome, the absurdity happens to undo it and denies him of his rational conclusions. But there's more factors that add up to this philosophy. Some responses to "combat" Absurdism is to either a) suicide, b) seeking religion or c) fighting the absurd.

Throughout the Penacony story we see him go through all three. His plan is suicidal, even if heavily planned and curated, it was meant to end with his death one way or the other (and i did already discuss the death of "Aventurine" over him but that's just one of the outcomes he was aiming for, the chance of his actual death was still very much there). We then see him going through a religious journey, be it through Xipe, forcing him to accept a path between death or Harmony, or through Gaiathra, as he's reminded of his original beliefs and all that it entails to it. And then, finally, we see him go through the fight against the Absurd, via an acceptance of it on his talk with Acheron in the Nihility, and him choosing to still attempt to succeed through his own accord when the answer still remains unclear.

The last option is the one that is optimal when fighting Absurdism as it fully accepts it and addresses it for what it is. The willingness to accept that the answer exists but is still not within reach. The other two deny Absurdism, thus letting it win by default as it either it prevents the existence of an answer or offers an answer that may not be correct. When i speak of Aventurine being somewhat of an atheist this is what i mean.

He doesn't deny the existence of a higher power (that's almost impossible in the HSR verse since the Aeons are physical). However, the notion of fate and destiny is paradoxical enough to be contested as the Aeons play games without regarding humanity and "luck" exists. And he understands this, which is what makes him skeptical. He often clamors words like "cog in the machine", "humble servant", and these are very easily applied to him in the IPC system, but also to how he views himself in the grand scheme of "destiny".

He never once out right says that he his blessed. He does say that he is lucky, something that he only starts saying after his talk with his sister, who chastises him for putting his life on the line.

"You're a child blessed by Gaiathra Triclops and can lead the clan to happiness. So, always remember to protect yourself and never resent the pain and poverty you're going through…"

This line is very significant to him. While his sister does start with worry for him as he is her last living relative, the following scolding by reminding him of the blessing strikes him fully. It reduces him to be only valuable because of this "blessing", even if he clearly states that it was his smarts that had him winning. And this is where he starts counting luck as a factor in the universe. Because he figures that if his smarts isn't what the blessing is, then it must be something that he cannot control and that acts in favor or in detrimental of himself. Something that is beyond the justification of "this is all Gaiathra's plan to you."

Being lucky is what he interprets as the blessing, but even he cannot fully accept this answer when luck contradicts destiny. Even if the outcome can be perceptible, true pure and unadulterated luck, denies the existence of a pattern and thus, it should mean that he should be able to veer between paths and have several outcomes. But he does not.

He's still very much destined. We see it in his gambles with life, we see it in his last chat with his "past" self. He accepts that there is something that is waiting for him, in this case, he accepts that it's his family, he accepts death as the final destination.

"So until the time comes...I should be preparing." "Preparing for what?" "Preparing to face them, Kakavasha, and to make them proud."

But he also accepts that there may be something else that he'll only unlock as he gets to his destiny. That one thing that will make his family proud. And this is the part where he actually accepts Absurdism and faces it. Because even if luck is present, there is still something that he will learn, regardless of outcome, when and as he walks to meet his end.

I still stand by my stance that the whole trial with his kid self and other self are just character affirmations rather than renewal of faith. Because even after the whole ordeal, he does not mention anything other than the horrors of Nihility. And while we can excuse that as him not being close enough to anyone to share what transpired during his trial, as no one but himself (and partially Acheron (maybe Sunday?)) should know what happened. The fact that he was brought to a Doctor of Chaos says that Nihility revived Absurdism rather than smash it. So even if he did arrive at an "answer", since this answer is vague enough to encompass Absurdity with it, it did not prevent him from falling victim to Nihility's corrosion.

To seize fate by the throat, we have no choice but to stake everything.

Another point of agreement of him being the embodiment of Absurdity, is the mention of him being invited to the Tavern. The Masked Fools live in Absurd, choosing to laugh at the possibilities and toying with the strings for the funniest outcome to them. Aventurine has this potential, as he is "blessed" without being blessed, and is smart enough to make plans that can bend the outcome to his side.

The way he incorporates what is actually part of himself with his Aventurine persona is also a factor to have him join the Tavern. Mixing the gambler with the corporate and the survivor, making it be a mask without it being one. He chooses to maintain parts of his past on display, parts that should be buried, but when faced with them it's just acceptance. He is the kid of the desert as much as the slave who killed for his freedom and the gambling liquidation expert. But he is also the "lucky one" who is tearing at the IPC from the inside.

However, people only see what they wish to see in him, and he allows this to work in his favor. Whether proving them right or wrong it doesn't matter, it's all still a part of him, a part that they have to accept. He's unapologetic being himself without being himself, the greatest charade that is enough to warrant an invite from the Tavern.

Absurdism does fit Aha's stance in some degree, but I won't discuss this as I'm not as familiar with the Masked Fools nor Elation. But this would fall in line with why Aventurine would have been given the invite.

One thing i wanna quickly mention. Even though Absurdism is a strain of Existential Nihilism, it is not the same as Nihility in the game. Nihility in HSR is in it's pure form, not taking a stance as it does not even know of it's own existence. HSR seems to be adopting the strain of Cosmicism as the existence of Aeons and their behavior are echoing this ideology more than Absurdism. Absurdism denies the existence of higher powers as a whole while Cosmicism embraces the possibility of such, only it doesn't categorize it as higher, but as another species that coexists with humanity on a macro scale. While Absurdism can somewhat cover the existence of other entities, it does not factor them as coexistent in causality, as it does not contemplate the consequences of interactions between these beings and humanity like Cosmicism does.

do you have any tips on how you draw the way you do (in your rendered abstract looking kind of style)? i'm like, totally enamored with that style. it makes me want to make art

ermm oh boy lemme see.

First tip: straight lines are your best friend. I use clipstudio so idk about other programs but I turn up the post-correction instead of holding shift and making a line but tbh the shift straight line should work (or just use an eraser)

Second tip: 100000 TEXTURES. Lay those layers on. If you had a chosen palette for the color be prepared to throw that away when you layer on a texture and find a prettier hue. Also download some wack ass brushes. Here's my main ones:

Use a big flat brush for the base area, erase until you get a general shape, then detail with a smaller brush

I know I had a separate post with my all my brushes, but I am always getting new ones, however, I will still link my most used here again

Epic textures to use

Third tip: I know I said be prepared to throw away your chosen palette, but you should still have a main color. For example my Suns drawing had mostly yellows and reds, but I also used purple and blue as complementary colors, and if they didn't look good? Copy paste the layer and hit it with a gradient map + blending mode (pin light is a personal fav)

Fourth tip: 100000 blending modes. Put a texture, play with the blending mode. Multiply, color burn, pin light, overlay, whatfuckingever. If it looks good keep it and add even more

Fifth tip: go ham. I have no rules ever. It's pure luck that my art comes out consistent with my mad scientist method of drawing. If you find a epic brush, send it to me I want more and am never satiated

OMG HEYYYYY i just remembered that i made this blog, oops!! thanks for the ask anon!!

i don’t even know where to start with my OC honestly lol. her name is Ephira (Fablehaven anyone? lol) and at the start of my fic she’s 19. she lives in O’khasis with her family and is the reason Zane got his hands on Esmunds relic. shes blessed with a magickal gift but at the start views it more as a curse which has restricted her for her whole life. she can sense past and present magick in people/objects/animals. this causes her headaches and hallucinations, sometimes even blacking out depending on the strength of the magick she’s interacting with. because of this she’s always wearing gloves! later it turns out there's much more to her gift than meets the eye. right now i'm toying around with the idea of her being a fragment of Irene's soul.

Ephira is quiet and observant. she's very close with her family. hates big crowds. her dream is to build a house by the ocean (far away from other people lol) and spend her days making art. she loves swimming and bodies of water in general because water can’t hold magick, so she’s always felt the most relaxed underwater.

most people in O’khasis are quite wary of her. there are rumors about her being a Shad worshipper due to her “strange behavior” aka the side effects of her gift. she was also bullied at school because of this behavior to the point of switching to homeschooling. all of this adds to her dislike for crowds and people in general lol. there's a lot more to her ofc but i feel like i've already written a ton in this post!

in response to your other question! Zane and Laurance were my favs when I was a kid! i'm pretty sure he started my love for evil conniving emo characters lol. i spend a lot of time in my fic exploring his motivations/backstory/etc. since he's kinda mysterious in canon.

Oh what? You dont get enough appreciation if my ask got you like that! Your stories are awesome!! While i will shamelessly admit its the oc x reader thing that lure me in, the way you love your characters sm that you keep developing them is exciting for me too! Before sending my previous ask i read all the webtoon, while im really lost (i understood it after few reread) uphill daisies, the lovecraft one is very fun and so cute! Lovecraft is my fav webtoon of yours. While I, once again shamelessly, feel sad if there's no reader content (im needy of their attention and need to be included LOL) i understand how hard it is to include a reader into your projects and i also understand if you want to grow your characters as their own series rather than fanservice characters and to be honest! Im excited with lovecraft series (im taking my time absorbing uphill daisies T—T) take your time writing though! Drawing multiple webtoon with such complicated world building and lots of character must be difficult and time consuming, cheering for ya!

tbh i miss yulian.. I'm tempted to pick up writing again to make a fanfic of him myself but mischaracterization my WORST enemy! Sorry i got too excited that you feel appreciated of my ask that i rambled more T—T

What better way to market a series if not to make readers fall in love with them? Shameless (x GN Reader) fanservice! And as for the lack of reader content, it kinda is true in UD because it's meant to be a mystery/crime series buuuuuuuttttt for the CatboX series, there'd be 'readers' appearing in the series.

LCH will have approximately 6-7 readers (although they are more of a character, I still consider them to be a romanced readers), with almost all the main characters paired with at least one reader! The one with the most spotlight is expected to be Scribe (Caelus) because he's my favorite.

As for another unpublished CatboX series would be 'The System Forbids' for the 2025 contest (if I have enough time to spare after finishing at least 3-5 episodes of UD). The OG novel protagonist (aka FMC) is pretty much the reader with the amount of romcom going on although it's not the best x reader.

Identity Crisis is pretty much Blue with reader except it's girlfriend now. His character is still problematic (yandere?) in the series [IC has no chance of being republished for now]. Yulian is Yulian. He's also problematic and I can kinda see the slander he'll receive if UD is published until the ending.

Why am I yapping (slaps slaps slaps), anywayyyyyyy words can't express how much I love your support. Thanks for sparing your time to read my current works (and years years ago work…). It really motivates me to keep going and makes me know there's still someone waiting and reading my work.

For you getting confused over UD, lemme tell you something, it’s because the second episode is a bad pacing decision, and makes no sense to be slapped out of nowhere without a proper continuation. The only good thing from that webtoon right now is the opening so I am amazed if you can even understand a bit of it (because I won't as a reader)

I've always had the dilemma of making my webtoon. Most times I wish I could just tailor myself according to what's trending (like Yulian or Blue) but I ended up working on other characters and feel bad for providing 'who the fuck' stories. Another concern is that the 'reader' is now an established character with personal lore to the point it no longer feels inclusive… not to mention I mostly make GN content, it kind of concerns me how every GN reader here would feel (Since it's all just female and I have no plan to add new readers).

Regarding mischaracterization, I understand you sm anon TwT. Even I as their mama sometimes OOC them! And if I'm not OOC-ing them, I'd cringe reading the answers to asks despite being in character (pls why are you so wattpad-y). It's a struggle but I don't mind reading it, I've read countless mischaracterized Yulian in my asks haha. (So sorry, he's not an exemplary father, the last in the ranking board if he even made it to the leaderboard…)

My plan currently is to write more content according to what webtoons I'm going to publish.
