Some FF2 echoes
There are traces of and nods to Final Fantasy II all over the Final Fantasy games, but especially in Final Fantasy IV. FF2 was the first Final Fantasy that tried using a large and varied cast of individual characters, many of them playable (something that 1 and 3 didn't do), and it also tried making a story with some personal stakes for the heroes (also something 1 and 3 didn't do). On top of that, it introduced a lot of Final Fantasy staples, such as the Chocobo and a character named Cid.
Some particular character callbacks:
Yosef FF2 and Yang FF4. The middle-aged, bald martial artist. Has a family. Sacrifices himself to get the other heroes out of a trap.
Prince Gordon FF2 and prince Gilbert FF4. The cowardly prince who loses his castle during the war and needs to find his courage to fight back. Is inspired by a loved one who was killed in front of him (Gordon's brother Scott, Gilbert's girlfriend Anna).
Leila FF2 and Faris FF5. The kick-ass female pirate captain. (Although it's arguable if Faris is a woman. I think they're very easy to read as transmasc. Still a callback to Leila, though.)
Cid, of course. The very first Cid is - what else - an airship engineer. All the Cids are airship engineers throughout FF2-FF5, though not in FF6. And the only Cid that is playable in the Nintendo games is FF4's.
Baron Bogan is a minor villain in FF2, who has echoes both in Baigan FF4 and in Kefka FF6. Echoes in Baigan: High ranking official in the "good" country, and then turns around to the "evil" side. Gets turned into a monster by his new overlord. Echoes in Kefka: Dresses outrageously, is petty and cruel, and has a funny laughter sound effect that goes "ohohohohoho".
Some other minor similarities/callbacks:
Casting a spell so powerful that it kills the caster: Minwu FF2 does this to open the way to Ultima for the other heroes. Tellah FF4 does this to try to kill Golbez.
Saved by being eaten by Leviathan: In FF2 Richard is saved from the battle that kills all the other Dragoons on Dist because he was eaten by Leviathan. Your party finds him inside it there when you're eaten, too, and then you fight your way out together. In FF4, of course, Rydia is eaten by Leviathan and taken to a safe place to spend her childhood.
The ball dance: Both FF2 and FF5 have a ball dance celebration when people think the war is over (and then it turns out it's not). This dance is animated almost exactly the same.

5, 11, and 18 for siavash for the wotr asks!
Thank you Kate! 💕💕 Some massive spoilers so the answers go under a cut
5. Do they have a family? If so, what kind? Do they miss them? Do they still have hope to see them again?
I’ve talked about his family before but thank you for this chance to ramble...
He’s a kindred-raised half-elf from a stable, happy family in Almas. His parents are Nilufar (a Kelish arcanist) and Doran (a professional lutenist in the Almas Municipal Orchestra); his three older sisters are Zarin (unmarried; one child, Kyrash), Fati (married to Talo, two small girls Daria and Tahmine), and Leila.
He loves them and misses them, but whenever he’s in Almas he can’t wait to get away again. During the Crusade he writes to them frequently and his nephew Kyrash sends him crayon illustrations of his adventures that he hangs up over his desk.
In fact, his healthy, happy family life was one of the reasons Areelu chose him for her experiment. Controlled variables. But since I discovered that Pathfinder half-elves can be mentally unstable it’s added a dimension to him (and his relationship with Camellia, but that’s another story): he comes from a line of half-elves who have been able to reconcile their two sides unusually well, making him an even more promising experimental subject.
11. For martial KCs, favorite weapon? For spellcasters, favorite spell?
Answered here
18. If they survived, what is their life post crusade?
Spoiler for the secret ending!
To put it mildly - Siavash is impulsive. This is a man who picks up every bit of luck Desna puts in his path and runs with it, from the Light of Heaven (“Ooh angelic sword, cool”) to flipping Iomedae the bird, keeping the power and becoming a true azata. He’s an explorer of possibilities.
So in the end he and Areelu help each other make the outrageous move of ascending to demi-godhood, in part because as much as he’s horrified by her means, he's on board with her ends—the liberation of mortalkind from the chains of death and separation. Inspired, or something he may live to regret?

Undead Unluck ch.180 thoughts
[You're Back! And Your Front - You're Both Here!]
(Contents: Fuuko analysis)
After over a year completely absent from the story, Andy has finally returned!!! Sort of. This one's just a clone, but it's still his consciousness, so we can't go so far as to say he's a fake or anything like that, it just means that he's not back permanently just yet. Sadly, he'll be gone before we know it, probably by the end of next chapter or the following depending on how quickly a "minute" passes
While that is the most exciting part of this week's chapter, though, I have already talked about it in a separate post, and thematically it contributes very little to the chapter as a whole, so it doesn't give me much to chew on right now
But you know who does? Fuuko. Fuuko continues to be one of the best protagonists I've ever read if for no other reason than because she is constantly growing. In fact, this chapter gives us two instances of her immense capacity for growth, one retroactive and one current
First, I want to talk about her surgical skills. Upon seeing Fuuko's proficiency with a scalpel, Rip notes that it took him ten years to get that good, to which Fuuko replies that everyone has their own set of talents - it took her 100 years to get to that level. We know that Fuuko's been kicking around this loop for 200+ years now, but aside from getting in on the ground floor of the fossil fuel economy and flirting with old martial arts masters, we don't really know how Fuuko spent most of her time. This revelation makes it clear that she wasn't just twiddling her thumbs and waiting for everything to fall into place, she was using her time to learn everything she might need to know going forward. She couldn't rely on being lucky enough that someone would know how to perform Leila's surgery aside from Rip, she had to be the one who could do it just in case. It was difficult, obviously, but that didn't matter - she had to do it, and when you have a potentially infinite lifetime, something being a "waste of time" isn't a valid excuse anymore
Compare this to when Fuuko was instructed to write a manga to get close to Anno Un in ch.37 - immediately she tried to get out of it, declaring that there was too big of a gap between reading and writing for her to be able to succeed. It didn't take a ton of convincing to change her mind, obviously, but she still needed to know that Andy was at her back and had the skills necessary to cover for her before she was willing to take even so much as the first step. This time, though, she had nobody. She had to do everything all alone, with no safety nets or guarantees, and she was able to turn those anxieties into the motivation she needed to succeed
It's also interesting that this means that she's taken the same basic path as Andy this time around: when Andy learned he was immortal, he started dabbling in various skills, such as hairdressing and manga authorship. However, whereas Andy was just aimlessly picking up skills to kill the boredom, Fuuko used her time wisely to plan out every eventuality along her 200-year path
I will say it's not exactly fair to say that it took Fuuko ten times as long as Rip to learn how to perform surgery, though - if she took 100 years, she must have started 100+ years ago. How different was medical knowledge and technology between 1800 and 1915? What tools do we have now that they couldn't have had? Society moves as fast as its tech will allow, so obviously someone working with outdated materials is going to learn that much slower, especially if she's trying to learn modern techniques
Not only has Fuuko shown her growth as an individual, though, she's also shown her growth as a leader. In accidentally triggering Unluck on Rip (with the same level of affection as she had for Andy when she first kissed him, I might add!), Fuuko summons a meteor that she knows will destroy the hospital. The last time this sort of accident happened was at the end of the Buroja Conflict in ch.153 when she inadvertently dropped Disc on Nico. At the time, she was paralyzed with guilt and fear, crying from the knowledge that she's not only killed one of her best friends, but possibly everyone who matters to her, and she can't do anything about it. What snapped her out of it was the reassurance from her friends that this was not an inescapable tragedy, but a problem to be solved by everyone working together - all she had to do was give the order
This time, Fuuko still knew that what was coming was terrible and was afraid of the outcome, but instead of wallowing in guilt, she jumped into action, figuring out the best course of action for everyone involved near instantly. Of course, she still didn't have the solution totally figured out, but she was able to create a plan on the fly because she didn't need any reminders that everyone present was strong enough to come together and save the day so long as they have strong enough leadership to unify them
But of course, Tozuka wasn't going to let Fuuko get away with simply minimizing casualities, he was always going to give her a definitive way out that would bolster her courage to the max. With Andy's return, all of Fuuko's anxieties are washed away, and the path to the goal has become clear as day - all she has to do is give the order

Day 2:
I decide to make 2 favorite moments for reasons I ‘ll say later.
My favorite loop 101 moment has to be Andy’s return and the 1 minute fight.
Up until that chapter we have basically zero clue as to Mr Undead’s whereabouts, outside of what I have to call a very misleading shot of him on a camel. Then suddenly, amidst a fight with this huge powerful UMA who gets really close to killing Leila, a random arm flew from nowhere and faceplanted Sick.
Tumblr media
With this, Andy with his grin ask for Fuuko’s command and started the best one minute UMA jumping I’ve read.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andy skillfully calls and commands every Negator available to restrain Sick and obliterating him with Dead Road, then greets Rip and Latla before flying facefirst into a meteor-comet duo is a great way to celebrate a year after him being gone from the story.
One part of this fight I never saw mentioned (likely because people made the connections already but whatever) is that the Andy clone contains so little of his actual Soul to the point where it can only last 60 seconds after landing and only uses physical attacks whereas the Andy on the Sun would probably take at most 3 seconds to skewer Sick’s soul.
It was also this fight that finally allows Fuuko to pursue a Master Rule into its hideout and making her declaration of war against Master Rules not just high talk. It is kinda hard to believe this moment is only 20 chapters ago, and 25 chapters ago we were just barely out of Chikara’s school arc.
Tumblr media
Anyway, I had to make a category for the 101th loop, and some could guess why I’m doing this: The best moment of UU thus far for me is obviously, the final minute of Ragnarok.
Before this, everyone pretty much threw everything they had at Sun, with some seemingly push them back ( Chikara, Yusai, Creed-Mico-Phil tagteam, Backs, Andy and the martial arts gang) before getting countered somehow, and Juiz’s sacrifice buying 5 whole minutes, then Victor went berserk.
Within the last minute, the fight to push Sun back or beating them suddenly becomes one to just hold this godly force back long enough for Fuuko to escape as the loss is inevitable. Even the Union’s barrier crumble as Haruka succumbs to her wounds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From Chikara sliding himself to the Union’s pitfall, Feng’s return after incapitacing Seal (I’m convinced he stealthily used a Soul attack that Seal had no way to defend against) and showing that he cares about what his disciple was fighting for, Kurusu praying and crying in a street corner, the gang fighting Ruin falling down to the Roundtable, to Victor firing his blood beam in conjunction with the staff.
Everyone did one last sacrificial move, be it basically punching God, holding the giant staff in place, blocking with an Untouchable sphere, and using a stasis sight one last time, all for the crying girl less than a meter from getting trampled before the timer ticks 0 and she goes with the uncaring Goddess to the next loop. Honestly I think unless there are actual insane moments in the final arc, this will be the best moment in UU for me.

You know she really started out as a self insert and turned into an OC yet I don't talk about her enough
So anyways here's some info of hers down below
Name: Katherina Tanith Erebus-Lane Nicknames: Kathy, Rina Age: 17 Gender: Female Race: Human/?? Appearance: She has tan skin with long black hair and indigo eyes that she inherited from her father.
Height: 5'6" Weight: 130 lbs. Hair style: Ponytail (season one to seven) / Edgy bob (season 8-present) Hair Color: Black Eye Color: Prussian/Regal Blue (Hex Code: #00416A) Skin Tone: Cameo (#CCA289)
Weapon of choice: Mother's katana and Father's sabre. Varies most of the time. Element: Darkness Manipulation Abilities:
Shadow Generation -The power to generate shadows and darkness. (inspired by Lord Garmadon during the pilot episodes. We should really extend the use of that or give reason why he gave that up. Shade is capable of this as well but it was only ever in the mobile game.)
Shadow Camouflage - The power to become invisible while in shadows. (inspiration: Shade and the Shinobi from Samurai Jack)
Umbrakinetic Combat - The power to fuse manipulation of darkness with physical combat to create a devastating form of martial arts. (As it says on the tin)
Umbrakinetic Constructs - The ability to create objects and other constructs out of darkness. (Why her weapon choice varies. It is unknown if she could create entire structures or environments yet)
Personality: At first, she is standoffish, but getting to know her, you learn that she's been through a lot before encountering the Ninja and becoming one of the Kunoichi. She's tough but kind, known to be analytical but fun. Call her genre-savvy if you will. Occupation: Kunoichi Affiliations: The Ninja (currently), Serpentine Rebellion — through Vasuki (currently), Dragon Samurai — through her mother and "aunts" (currently), Elemental Masters (off and on) Hometown: (Spoilers)
Status: Alive Bio: Katherina here is the daughter of the previous Master of Darkness, Luther, and Clarissa, Lady Azure of the Dragon Samurai. She is their fourth child after their eldest, Xander and their twin girls, Mariana and Veronica. She lived in a city far away from the world of Ninjago with her parents having left that world behind in order to not let their young get involved with any fantastical affairs of the like. However they couldn't escape the world of fantasy after all. Katherina was open to the world and she grew up in it. One day, during one of her adventures while she was a teen, she had lost her brother due to a blast of magic and it would be sometime after the event of her loss that she would be framed for something she didn't do, due to her powers waking up after so long, and her grandparents on her mother's side had given her a way to get out of trouble. Unfortunately this would lead her back to Ninjago where she was needed the most. With her panicking and her powers sometimes lashing out with her not being taught to use them right, she was eventually found by Wu and the team of Ninja with their most recent addition, Sam, their wind kunoichi. It took Lord Garmadon to sift through the Darkness to reach Katherina. (Recalling how Leila, the former Master of Shadow had done the same for Luther, their old "friend".) Kathy would eventually be taught her powers correctly (more like without accidentally leaving a door open to Overlord, but she doesn't know that yet) and she joined the fight against the Serpentine. However, it was one night on her own that she would meet a Serpentine Hybrid who, for some reason, she felt a strong connection to and felt the need to hear him out and help him in their endeavor to take down Pythor and his followers.
Relationships:
Luther and Clarissa: Her parents. They are semi-strict types and protective of her and her siblings. The protectiveness definitely shows when they find out she's with Wu, someone they tried so hard to avoid yet somehow got circled back to. Xander: Her older brother who she looked up to. The two of them went on their own adventures through the city they lived in, encountering so much and experiencing more than their fair share together until that incident happened. Mariana and Veronica: The older twin girls. For the most part, they were cordial with her like some siblings are. They were actually studying magic and sometimes Kathy would join, trying to hang out with them and sometimes being shot down, but not maliciously. When Xander died however, their demeanor to her changed, shutting her out nearly completely until she herself disappeared one day. Samantha: A kunoichi of wind who became her friend. Vasuki: He is a Hypnobrai-Anacondrai hybrid she had followed, mistaking him for one of Pythor's followers. After hearing him out and being led to the border of their encampment, the Ninja had mistaken her for being kidnapped but they find out it's not the case. Events come to pass, and Kathy and Vasuki are inseparable to the point of when she was done helping rebuild the City of Ouroboros after the Battle of the Devourer, he ended up following her and eventually becoming her partner.
Fun Facts:
Originally, she was a self insert in an RP years ago back on DeviantArt. That was until I gave her a different name and watched other material that would make up her backstory. If you've seen my old DeviantArt journals, you'd know what I had laid out for her. However the story did change quite a bit.
She didn't actually have an official ninja suit design that wasn't customized to her. The most I ever got was her color. Now her suit is based off of several things. There's the unused Leonardo concept, Karai's armor, and that one Ninja costume from this site. That's basically the three main things that helped.
The names her family members, notably her father and brother, are called aren't their real names but by middle names.
She is a middle child. However, her younger sibling Tsukiko would have been born around the time she became a teen, aka the time her powers were presenting itself, so she didn't get much time to get to know her.
There is a reason Vasuki and Katherina already feel so familiar with each other around their first meeting. Of course, that is spoiler related and only one other person knows about it.
She only has so few abilities because her father is keeping the other half of the Element of Darkness so she cannot reach true potential until after he gives it up. (He does not give it up willingly, of course. Especially after he's learned that using too much of the Darkness Element would lead Overlord to an open door. He doesn't want that for her.)
She will get an appearance in another fic. The current Ninjago fic I'm writing is another OC, one by a friend, and I still love her so.
I was going to give her the Romanian version of her name, Catalina, but the more I thought about it, I realized she didn't really look like a Catalina, not even a Catina. Maybe if she were vastly different, I would do so but Katherina had been stuck to her for so long that it feels wrong to give her another name.

finals beating my bum cheeks but here, have some crumbs from the ghost-hunting au 🫶
The video cuts off abruptly.
“No. Fucking. Way.”
Leila stares blankly at her screen, eyes wide as the video finishes and the story icon disappears.
“What?”
Leila lifts her head from her phone, mouth agape as she stares at her best friend. Imani lays opposite on the couch, eyebrow raised, and face twisted in confusion.
“Johnny Cage just posted to his story,” Leila says as she scrambles over blankets and limbs to try and shove her phone under Imani's nose. Her fingers clumsily fumble to pull up the video.
Imani makes a noise of discomfort at the rough treatment of her legs under the blanket but gives her attention to the screen.
When the video ends a second time, Imani angles her head, face unimpressed.
“Yeah, and?”
Offense writes itself across Leila's face. “Do you know what this means?”
“That your favorite actor is trying to be another one of those wack-ass ghost hunters?”
“Paranormal investigators,” Leila corrects, “and no. He isn't trying to be anything. If anyone can find proof of spirits, it's him.” Leila says it with such conviction that Imani almost doesn't want to laugh.
“The martial arts movie star? We are talking about the same guy, right? The dude from Ninja Mime?” Leila can't be serious about this. This Cage guy was no better than some YouTuber.
A vague recollection pops into Imani's head. “Wait,” she pauses, eyes flicking from the phone and back to Leila's face, “is this a dig at Ethan Sterling? For that whole Spirit Endeavors thing?”
Leila opens her mouth, no doubt to refute that statement, but freezes. Her eyes widen impossibly further as understanding takes hold. “Oh, holy shit, Imani, it is! This is totally to get back at that douchebag. Oh, that settles it, we're so watching the stream tonight. Cancel all your plans, this is more important.”

So I’m done with my season one rewatch. I feel like I need to make a little list of my own.
Favorite Episodes
1.07: What Are Little Girls Made of? - A good first exploration of the "Are robots humans?" question, plus Andrea was hot.
1.22: Space Seed - Holy fuck, Khan is just brilliant.
1.21: The Return of the Archons - Really nice costumes. Interesting exploration of the theme of individuality versus stability
1.26: Errand of Mercy - Awesome costumes, commander Khor and a great twist at the end
1.28: The City on the Edge of Forever - A classic that needs no explanation.
Best bad Episodes
1.04: The Naked Time - Pure gold in terms of the different reactions to the disease.
1.15: Shore Leave - The fight scenes were a bit too long, but the episode still stands out for its sheer insanity.
1.19: Tomorrow Is Yesterday - Humorous, Kirk totally flirts with that pilot, but a weird ending.
1.18: Arena - Despite some slow moments, the Gorn and the surprisingly thoughtfull ending make it absolutly great.
1.25: The Devil in the Dark - The Horta. Spock being protective. Bones nailing it. Awesome.
1.29: Operation — Annihilate! - Rubber brain cell aliens and great hurt/comfort dynamics.
Really bad episodes
1.02: Charlie X - Ugh to the implications and handling of assault.
1.05: The Enemy Within - Again the implied assault. They killed the unicorn dog. Also surprisingly dull.
1.20: Court Martial - Boring. Weird anti-technology message for a sci-fi series
1.24: This Side of Paradise - I’m not sure where to put this. Leila forcing Spock into a relationship via spores and then having him declare that he was actually happy was unsettling. The message of productivity being more important than happiness also didn’t sit right.
1.27: The Alternative Factor - Sooo boring and forgeteable.

HOUSE MARTELL :: 101 AC - 158 AC
Not much was known of House Martell during the Dance of Dragons, and most of the history prior to its induction into the Seven Kingdoms is either hidden or lost.
What is known is that Prince Qoren Martell and his consort Arianna Martell nee Manwoody, were blessed with four children, three daughters and one son. Leila Martell was the eldest and as such, she inherited Dorne when her father passed. Aliandra, younger by three years, grew up into a spirited young lady and was said to hold the affection of Ser Alyn Velaryon. Prince Qyle and Princess Coryanne were the youngest, and while Prince Qyle’s martial prowess became well-known throughout Dorne, Princess Coryanne preferred to keep her skills private, and so not much was written of her.
Stranger still was the inconsistent appearances of Prince Qoren’s younger brother Andar Martell and his paramour, Selyna Ladybright. It is unknown why the two nobles never married yet shared three daughters, affectionately known as the Daughters of the Dorne for their loyalty to their kingdom.
Meera Sand was rumored to be Princess Leila’s own Mistress of Whisperers and personal assassin, while her sisters moved behind the scenes, fulfilling different duties for the Princess of Dorne.
Princess Leila refused to have any other ladies in waiting but her cousins and sisters, which was not unusual for Dorne, although it did lead to some tension between the vassal houses and the Great House.
The fates of House Martell largely remain unknown, as Dorne stayed a far removed kingdom until Prince Daeron married Princess Myriah Martell, Leila Martell’s own granddaughter, several decades later.

Catch These Hands- 1
Martial arts rivals to lovers! I did this instead of homework.
tagging the people i remember expressing interest? ask to be added or removed from the taglist lol: @tiergan-andrin-alenefar @rainbow-frog-earrings @everblaezing @aphelea @rat-with-coffee
Content warning for violence (nothing serious, just martial arts stuff), and mentions of anxiety.
Thinking about how pretty this girl looks is decidedly not a good strategy to win a fight. Vari’s lucky she has good reflexes, otherwise she would’ve lost in the first second, and that would be embarrassing. There are people looking at her and she should maybe not make a fool of herself. She blocks the girl’s uppercut, thankfully, and retaliates with a jab to the stomach that her opponent sidesteps.
Breathing. Breathing is important. Vari tries to remember that breathing is important as she swings her leg up to the side of the girl’s head, doubling the kick when her first attempt is blocked. The second try doesn’t work either, so she tries using her other leg to kick straight forward to the chest. Blocked again. Her opponent steps closer, close enough that Vari can’t conveniently stretch her legs out long enough for a good kick.
Cutting her legs off. Smart. Very annoying. Vari does not like this pretty girl she’s fighting against.
Kicks are better, but since her legs are a bit cut off, Vari attempts a few punches and then switches to defense as her opponent comes after her with a hammerfist spinning backfist double punch double punch jab-
There.
Vari shoots out a sidekick to the stomach. It lands. The girl grunts, but recovers quickly, and extends her hand for Vari to shake. She takes it, trying very, very hard not to melt into a puddle of blushing homosexual goo. The instructors judging declare her the winner, and the girl gives her a half smile before gliding over to the loser side, and Vari walks over to join the winners.
She can’t stop looking at her opponent.
Why can’t she stop looking at her opponent?
Probably because she’s absolutely beautiful, but whatever. Even now that she’s out of the ring, she wears the same intense determination on her face; eyes narrowed, jaw set, lips turned to a scowl. Her meduim brown skin, a bit lighter than Vari’s own, flushes pink from exhilaration. A few strands of black hair hang loose from her otherwise neat ponytail, brushing over the bindi on her forehead, and Vari has the oddest urge to fix it for her. Irrelevant. The girl catches her eye and smiles, and Vari absolutely cannot look her back in the eye, so she drops her gaze to the girl’s nose, long and straight.
“Vari and Adam, come on up!”
Right. Fighting. Other things exist in the world, beyond this stupidly beautiful girl. Heat floods her face and she scrambles to the ring.
Focus. Ignore all the shit around you. Just fight hard, don’t think.
That’s what martial arts is for. Not thinking. Sixteen years of living with anxiety, three years of therapy, and this is the only thing she’s found so far with a high success rate of making her head go quiet. She might as well make it useful.
Adam comes at her with a roundhouse kick, and she stops thinking. Starts fighting. She beats Adam, but loses her next round, against Leila. Standing over on the loser side is her opponent, the first one she beat. She furiously avoids eye contact and stands on the other side of the group. Her eyes keep sneaking glances.
It’s very annoying.
Finally, finally, class is over. Vari is very much looking forward to showering when she gets home. Even the chilly November air that blasts through every time someone shuffles through the door offers some relief from the sweat and heat of the dojo. She loves martial arts, she does, but it’s so hot in there and she feels gross. Probably smells awful. Which is not ideal for being approached by a pretty girl, even if said girl is definitely smelly too.
Vari would have been perfectly content to let this girl be just another person she sees once, falls in love with for all of thirty seconds, and never speaks to. But this stupid girl with her stupid hair and curves and her muscles, stupid muscles, stupid lesbian brain, walks over to Vari with a bright smile on her face that contrasts her earlier ferocity so sharply it almost gives Vari whiplash, and says "Hey, hi, I'm Harathi- you have really good kicks."
Huh. She has a name now.
And Vari, who is apparently not done being stupid, extends her hand to shake. "I'm Vari. And thanks, but a lot of good it did me when you cut my legs off, you jerk." She laughs to let Harathi know she's kidding.
Mostly kidding.
"Well, you won in the end," Harathi says with a shrug.
"Damn right I did.
"Do you train on Wednesdays regularly?"
"Um, yeah?"
"I'm switching to Wednesdays, so maybe I'll get another chance next week."
It's unclear what kind of confidence came over her usually doubt-riddled self, but she is enjoying this a lot. "Well, I'll probably beat you next week too."
"Keep telling yourself that," says Harathi,  and she walks away before Vari can respond, leaving her blinking at the swinging door. Slowly, a grin comes over her face. That was the most fun she's had in a long time.
