With Non-Strikers Help, Bowler Completes Never-See-Before Catch. Watch
Bizarre catch taken in T20 Blast© Instagram In arguably a never-seen-before incident, the T20 Blast witnessed bizarre scenes as a bowler completed a catch on his own bowling, but with some help from the non-striker batter. Leicstershire’s Colin Ackermann was caught by Steven Mullaney but not before Wiaan Mulder helped him while standing at the non-striker’s end. While it was pure ecstasy for…

MAIDSTONE STROKE GROUP
NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER 2021
MIRACLE PILL 'HALVES' COVID DEATH & ILLNESS
A new pill halves the risk of being hospitalised with covid and may slash deaths by even more. The wonder drug was branded “game-changing” in trail results and could banish lockdowns for good. Health chiefs are in talks on a deal for the molnupiravir pill, which could be taken at home. US drugs firms Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics say it slashed rates of severe covid by 50% and all patients who were given it survived the virus. Ridgeback chief Wendy Holman said: “Antiviral treatments that can be taken at home to keep people with covid out of hospital are critically needed.” The drug is said to prevent the virus multiplying as quickly, allowing the bodys natural immune system to fend it off. In tests on 775 patients testing positive but not seriously ill, 7.3 per cent given the pills ended up in hospital compared to 14.1 per cent not taking them. There were eight deaths but none in the molnupiravir group. The firms will now apply for a licence from US regulators. But Oxford professor Peter Hornby said: “Quite a lot of people need to be treated to prevent one hospitalisation or death.” Merck says there are large supplies available. Do hope its past and rolled out in the UK soon.

AT A STROKE
Three in ten stroke survivors under 60 have lost a job afterwards and six per cent lost their homes, a poll shows. I was just turned 47 years old when I suffered my stroke, my job was Sales Development Manager for a food company but after four months was told there was nothing that could be offered so had to let me go. I have never worked since, but because of our stroke group have made numerious friends that I would not had if still working and not had a stroke so not all bad. Article by Peter Fenton
FAREWELL TO CHIMP NODDY, AGED 50
A CHIMPANZEE thought to be one of the oldest in Britain has died aged 50. Keepers said Noddy had been “quiet” but showed no signs of being unwell before her death. She outlived most wild chimps, which usually live to around age 35. Noddy was born in 1971 and was among the first chimps at Twycross Zoo, Leicstershire when she arrived in 1973. She died there last Thursday and leaves children William, 39, Flyn, 35, and Jomar, 30. Another Twycross chimp, Coco, is 56. A zoo spokesman said: “Noddy will be missed dearly. She was an important part of the European breeding programme. Our veterinary experts are now undertaking a full post mortem to understand more.
Sad but nice story to see some Animals can and do live longer in captiverty although its not my views.

AVOID EYE STRAIN... WITH 20/20/20 TRICK
THE average worker spends six hours a day staring at screens, so it's no surprise that computer eye strain is a modern epidemic – with more than ten million GP visits for related symptoms including sore, watery eyes, blurred or double vision and headaches. Offer your eyes some relief with this '20/20/20' trick, recommended by the American Academy of Ophthamology. Every 20 minutes, look at an object that's at least 20ft away for at least 20 seconds. The academy says that while excessive screen use will not cause permanent sight damage, this simple exercise can help prevent blurred vision, eye strain and headaches by forcing you to look at something other than your screen.
WHY A HOUSEPLANT CAN GIVE YOU SMOOTHER SKIN
Houseplants are cheery, but they might also improve our skin. Dr Tijana Blanusa at the Royal Horticultural Society, found that certain shrubs and flowers can counter skin dryness caused by central heating during the winter months, because of the process of transpiration. This is where plants emit water through their leaves into the air, which has the knock-on effect of helping keep our skins moist. 'Plants with high transpiration rates provide good humidity benefits,' says Dr Blanusa. 'A plant like a peace lily can transpire 100ml of
water in a day, the equivalent of a small teacup-full, evaporated. Ivy also performed well, but there are likely to be many other species whose characteristics lend themselves to the job.' Interestingly, early research that suggested houseplants can improve air quality has been debunked - the numbers of plants that would be needed to have an impact would be vastly more than would fit in the average home.

DRINK MILK TO PRTECT TEETH
A tip dentists swear by: if you nip downstairs for a midnight snack, wash it down with a glass of milk. John, Richard and myself usually wash a midnight snack down with Gin, I digress back to the milk. When we eat sugary foods, the bacteria in plaque on our teeth produces acids that harm the tooth enamel. Researchers at the University of Illinois found that after volunteers ate a bowl of dry, sugary cereal, drinking a glass of milk rather than water or apple juice and NOT GIN milk was most effective in reducing the amount of acid on the teeth. If you're not a milk drinker, snack on a small piece of cheese instead – it has the same effect. Did you now that if any of your teeth get knocked out, and are in one piece if you kept them in milk until you get to Hosp or Dentist you keep the tooth alive, then maybe your tooth could be put back?.

Our stroke group has been around for 23 years, we have outlasted most other stroke groups in and around Kent. I was at our first meeting held at Cobdown Ward at Preston Hall on the 10thNovember 1998, I had spent 3 months and was still in the Boxley Ward at Maidstone Hospital, but was allowed to attend the first stroke meeting accompanied by my pyshio Jane and Wendy my wife in a wheel chair. The only other person I can recall was Michael Goucher who used to be a member of our stroke group, look at us now still going, maybe not so many members now but like myself I now our group has helped many members over the last 23 years, its something each of you should be very PROUD of and here's to the next ? However many years.
