D: What’s the most personal fanfic you’ve written?

The first one that comes to mind is Hold me tight 'cause I'm just holding on for tonight, which is actually a Leia/Evaan fic 🫣 I came up with it around the same time as I was coming to terms with my own identity, and it took me several years to finish writing it not only because I'd never written same sex relationships, but also because it deals with Leia's grief immediately after Alderaan. And another one that came from a very personal place was Either way, which has Han and Leia having a pregnancy scare and discussing not keeping it.

L:  Which of your fanfics was the most emotionally challenging to write?

I think there are at least a few like that - one of them is again Hold me tight, but there's also Under starless skies we are lost, my take on a post-Jabba's palace missing moment (another idea that I'd been thinking about for several years before finding the best way of telling it), and Homecoming, which is about the Alderaanian diaspora settling on a space station that was made with scrap metal from the Death Star, and again has Leia processing her grief.

M: What’s the weirdest AU scenario you’ve ever come up with?  Did it turn into a story?

Well, I have a wip where Leia gets turned into a vampire and she feeds on Han, so maybe that one 😂 Oh! and I also have a wip about Han and Leia meeting through Space Tinder. Just full of great ideas 😛

Because I know what fandom you've been writing recently, and I like to mess around with how to interpret these things... 1) Number: 7, Ship: A battle-damaged Y-Wing, and 2) Number: 29, Ship: The empty bridge of a mothballed GR-75 rebel transport.

7. … to shut them up

She lands hard and pops her canopy, untangling herself from the harness in a hurry to get up and out. Her astromech took damage from the same hit that cracked her head against the canopy, and he’s responding, but sluggishly; she wants to check him out, and once he’s taken care of there’s the damage to her starboard pylon to deal with, which looks like mostly nothing serious but she’s definitely drawing less power than she should be, and then there’s all the components that ion blast knocked out–

She’s not even fully unstrapped before she hears a ladder clang up against the side of her fighter, and a half-second later Leia appears at the top of it, wide-eyed and out of breath. “Ev?”

“Hey,” she says, grinning.

“Are you hurt?” Leia clambers the rest of the way up the ladder and swings a leg over, perching on the edge of the cockpit and leaning in. “You sounded awful on the comm. Stay still, let me look–”

“I’m fine,” Evaan says – not that she exactly minds Leia’s hands cupped around her face, but she’d rather it wasn’t just to inspect her for injuries.

Leia doesn’t appear to hear her. “Your fighter’s a mess, I don’t know how you got it back in one piece. Can you get out? Look, are you sure you’re not hurt? I think you should–”

“Leia, I’m fine,” she says again, and when that doesn’t seem to break through either, lowers her voice and tries, “Ma’am–”

“–can worry about your fighter after the medics check you out, I know you don’t–”

Evaan rolls her eyes, pulls Leia down into her lap and kisses her.

Leia makes an indignant noise into her mouth, which makes her laugh, which makes Leia laugh; they break apart for a moment, Evaan keeping her arm around Leia’s waist to keep her close, butting her face up against Leia’s and seizing the chance for another quick kiss. “I said I’m fine,” she says, and she’s still laughing a little. “But I’d be better if you’d let me get a word in edgewise.”

“Sass from my pilots, every commander’s dream. You’re lucky you’re my favorite.” Leia swings back onto the ladder.“I still want you checked out.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Evaan says, clambering down after her, and then dares, “Maybe someone should walk with me, I did hit my head.”

“Yes, I can see you need someone to lean on,” Leia says solemnly, and tucks herself in against Evaan’s side, letting Evaan drape an arm across her shoulders. “Can’t leave one of my pilots in this condition, my reports will just have to wait.”

Sooooo... the @starwarswritingalliance challenge prompt of the day is “barely averted disaster,” and the pairing on my list for today is Leia/Evaan, so that basically adds up to the most Okay Satan prompt possible, but hey, that’s just how the sabacc dice roll sometimes.

Evaan plays it through night after night.

I go with the Scarif team to the planet and outsmart the Imperials, and somehow avert whatever the hell happened down there and the Death Star plans leave with Cassian’s team and never pass through the Princess’s hands at all.

I’m on the Tantive and we disguise me as the Princess and sneak her onto another ship, I lead the Imperials on a wild porg chase through the ship — for hours, she’s fast and strong for someone her size but I’m faster and stronger — and she’s far off when I finally get captured and they take me to Vader and he realizes he’s been tricked, and I die alone in a torture cell but the Princess is already on Yavin briefing the Rebellion on how to blow up the Death Star.

I go to Scarif and infiltrate the imperials and find Tarkin and shoot him in the back of the head, and get killed instantly and never meet the Princess but the battle station is thrown into chaos and they never get to Alderaan before the Rebels blow them up.

She often sits awake while Leia sleeps. Leia’s hair spills around her as she sleeps, hugging her pillow face down, often holding Evaan’s hand in her sleep while Evaan stays sitting up against the backboard, holding a datapad she isn’t reading. Sometimes she twitches and grips Evaan harder in the night, but she doesn’t wake in the middle of the night, doesn’t talk in her sleep or thrash around. Evaan is mystified by the soundness of the Princess’s sleep, but forever grateful for it. Life has shown so few other mercies to her sovereign, her commander, her only love.

I stay on Alderaan instead of joining the Rebel navy, I stay in the Queen’s mentorship program and I meet the Princess back then and I learn how to use the Force and we start communicating with it across the stars, and when she’s captured on the Death Star she speaks to me through our connection and gives us enough warning time to evacuate the planet.

I’m on the Tantive instead of Captain Antilles and I outfly Vader himself and I get the Princess to Tattooine and the Empire eats our dust.

Evaan doesn’t like lying down. She’s just...generally not a fan. She keeps herself awake until she passes out, most nights. She knows it’s bad for a pilot to be chronically underslept, but she’s also never known a pilot who wasn’t. Except maybe Luke Skywalker, farmboy looks like he’s slept from dusk to dawn and eaten a hearty nutri-balanced breakfast every day of his life. No wonder he was the only one who could make the shot.

I stay on Alderaan and meet the Princess back then and we fix the culture in the Rebellion so everyone starts getting enough sleep, and all of our missions go better and more people join and we blow up the Death Star before they can even test-fire it.

Leia is curled up next to her right now, holding Evaan’s left hand. She grips harder a couple times, spasmodically, and doesn’t relax her grasp. Evaan puts her datapad aside and strokes the back of Leia’s hand gently, until her death-grip loosens a little bit. The muscles around her eyes twitch but she stays sound asleep and silent.

They never talk about their dreams.
