A Legend of Zelda AU where Link ends up being in the Royal Family and Zelda a small farm family throughout the time line.

A boy raised by royalty, raised knowing his role in the great legend of their kingdom. He’s a born knight, a fighter and protector. He has eyes on him at all times, expectations of him to become the bearer of the sword. The thing is, females are still expected to become the main ruler of Hyrule. So if a Link doesn’t get married, their sister. Link doesn’t care. He wants to find someone who will care about him for him, not because of his status. And many Links do find them. Find her.

Zelda grows up in a farming community, always hearing rumors and legends of the one connected to the goddess often is born in there small village. Zelda does find the legends interesting, being a big fan of old tales, legends, and ancient history. Many Zelda’s become librarians at the royal castle due to their knowledge and experience. Many Zelda’s become archaeologists and go exploring for the history they adore, sometimes to the risk of their safety. They always end up running into the Prince called Link, who similarly has an interesting in history and exploring in general.

I think Zelda would obviously be the main character and be the one often saving Link. It’s a swap after all. She’s still the reincarnation of the goddess, and Link the chosen knight. I like the idea of things flipping around though and Link needing to be the one who gets rescued. Zelda I can see being more of an archer and magic user. So the bow of light and master sword can kinda switch places as well!

Maybe in the past instead of a knight Hylia met, it was a Prince or King? A goddess pretending to be a commoner and meets and falls in love with royalty. That Prince/king giving his life to save her, and then Skyward Sword happens.

I like the idea of their roles swapping, and the master sword and bow of light and master sword roles switching. But Zelda is still the reincarnation of Hylia and Link her chosen. Fi in the bow of light? The master sword more being a very ancient and powerful weapon that’s passed down in the royal family that only Hylias chosen can wield. Sword of the goddess/light and the master/champions bow? Maybe less protected by the royal family and only can be summoned by Hylias chosen? Like how canon Zelda can summon the bow of light.

you've been assigned to him for as long as you could remember. people have observed your bond, and it's quite obvious that you're the only reasonable match— the only one he's willing to let take care of him. you wouldn't want to change that fact either, but taking care of link comes with an unfathomable amount of responsibility. such as...

★ "put down that damn frog!"

you're the closest you've ever been to a heart attack at this point. taking the prince out on a voyage where there were monsters lurking about was the last thing you had wanted to do, but unable to resist his insistent, silent pouting, you couldn't exactly denyhim what he wanted.

he's cute when he's curious, which is everyday. you let him roam around with his large observational book, studying and taking notice of whatever shroom or flower was blooming by whatever random tree.

speaking of a tree, you figured to set up a small campsite under a large tree not too far away from the castle. there was a fire going in a pot, and the boy had been throwing random food stuff inside and hoping for the best dish to come from it. you watch with a soft smile— that is, until it deflates as you spot a few bokoblins a little too close and sigh, standing up.

"Stay here." you mumble softly, to which the boy smiles and nods, eyes glued to the way you reach up to grip the handle of your sword, pulling it up and out of its sheathe.

yoi don't take long— really you don't. the bokoblin type was blue, more than easy to take down. you don't even break a sweat until you begin walking back to the tree, only to feel your breath hitch and your heart stop. that damn monster of curiosity (or, link) was holding a poor frog over the pot, probably more than ready to drop it in for Hylia knows what.

your shouting startles the boy, making him go wide-eyed and sheepish as you storm up to him. you take a second to glare before snatching the creature from his hands and setting it back into the small body of water that he was most likely snatched from.

"seriously? I was gone for five minutes." you protest.

his face goes expressive,

'it's for science!' he signs

"I know, link... you always say that." you sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose, opening your eyes to see him flipping frantically through his research book before holding it open, shoving the open page in your face.

a silly healing elixir that he had been mentioning non-stop. it was probably the reason he was so adamant about tagging along.

"yes, my liege, I know about the elixir. but if you want it so bad, why don't you just simply buy one?" you suggest, exhaustion in your voice.

his face scrunches in disgust at the idea, throwing the book down before signing again,

'too far. want to experience creating it on my own'

you look from his hands to his face, being met with his saddened eyes. if he were anyone else...

"fine..." you mumble, to which he silently celebrates, "just, not in front of me, please?"

'thank you.' he steps closer, and you smile.

'no problem'. you sign back.

★ "please be careful, my liege." you voice to the blonde prince.

he'd gladly tell you that he was fine if his hands weren't currently full. if anyone else saw how you and link interacted outside of the castle, you're sure you'd be killed for your crimes.

maybe it wasn't a good idea to let the prince of hyrule use your sword and swing it around however he pleased, but in your professional opinion— he's a natural.

"you're doing great!" you smile, shaking your head as he was caught up in his own little world. and he really was. so great that he couldn't heat a word you said. holding a weapon just felt so natural to him, and he absolutely loved it when you offered it up for him to use during leisure time.

his swings are heavy and lethal, but it's obvious to you that he isn't pacing himself. the movements are so natural that he doesn't even comprehend the strain it's putting on his body— not until his swing is stopped.

link looks down at his tightened grasp on the handle, but looseness it as he realizes that you had caught his wrist. his disgruntled expression softens significantly as he looks up at you in awe and embarrassment as you hold his wrists with one hand, and remove the handle the handle from his grip with the other.

"that's enough," tour voice rings through his head as you chuck the sword to the side, face growing serious as you keep holding his wrists, "you alright?"

he can't respond with occupied hands, and so he nods, heart pounding at your serious expression. he wonders what he's done wrong, or what should be wrong, until he begins to feel an ache in his back and shoulders, making him wince. you notice.

"I know that feeling... it's why I stopped you." you explain whilst removing your hands from him. "you're good, but you're straining yourself. you're not fit for that type of intensity."

he mouths a small 'oh', and you sigh, frowning as he rubs his aching shoulder.

"it's alright... I've got something to heal you right up."

the male smiles softly, nodding in appreciation. you were always taking care of him like this. but your encouragement for him to get a little rough and rowdy is why he liked you so much. though you wanted him safe, you weren't constantly sheltering him. he hated that.

he taps your shoulder, to which you turn to him,

'sorry.'

you smile and shake your head, "don't apologize. you did really good my liege. wonder what you'd be like as a knight, actually." you chuckle.

he smiles back, letting the butterflies float around in his tummy.

★ "what do you think you're doing?"

you felt like you've done this... a lot. for the umpteenth time, you've caught the prince walking around the castle grounds, barefoot, and draped in a softened blanket as he attempts to protect himself from the nighttime breeze.

the look he gives you is one of disappointment as he thinks you're going to take him back inside, but he's pleasantly surprised when you shake your head and simply rest a hand on his shoulder, guiding him forward.

"Don't worry...I'll sit with you."

he smiles, clutching the blanket tighter. beyond the wall, he can spot the swaying of the grass, the wispyness of the clouds in the deep blue sky, and the stillness of the ancient guardians that settled into the ground. he truly loves his kingdom, and you can see it true. he walks until he reaches a spot that makes it easy to see the vast land and takes a seat on the edge of the castle walls.

"this is nice..." you sigh as you sit beside him

he nods, and your eyes glance over to him incase he's ready to talk back. and he does:

'I think I enjoy nighttime the best.' he signs, glancing between you and the beautiful view amongst him, 'sometimes, i think about running. I want to explore.'

you heart aches

"I know, my liege... I'm sorry you feel trapped." you whisper

to your surprise, he laughs softly, shaking his head, 'not trapped... just hidden potential'

you smile. such a purse and positive response. his head turns to face you, eyes so blue that you can't help but observe them thoroughly. he scoots closer beside you, careful, as to not fall, and rest his head on your shoulder.

"I think..." you wrap his blanket around him tighter, "I think we were definitely meant to be this way, my liege." you whisper, and watch as his eyes flutter shut

but not before he nods in agreement, and your heart tate spikes at what he says next.

his hands don't communicate, no. nit this time. instead, you're blessed with a sound ao angelic, so soft that you'd dread if you accidentally missed it.

"I think so too..." he whispers.

Totk swap!!!!!! I've got more art of them to post after this but I'm trying to finish a few more pieces before posting ^^

Anyway! Zelda, the new hero, and Link, Sage of the Wild. I changes some of the Sages abilities just a bit. Link gives Zelda the flurry rush ability. Tulin stays the about the same. Yunobo also doesn't have any changes. Sidon's water shield acts more like Daruks Protection, and is instantly activated by double tapping ZL in quickly. Riju's lightning also changes slightly! No more charge up, and it's activated by double tapping ZR, so you can do it midair as well. And Minaru also has no changes!!!

Link is the Sage of the Wild, and his abilities to communicate with the Koroks and other spirits has been amplified. They can reveal Koroks to other people by being close to them, and also speak to fairies. That's why they have a new fairy who i named Nava (after Navi lol).

A redraw of the Dragon Of Time from my TOTK Zelink role swap fanfic “Twist In Time and Fate” by Hopelessly_Confused!!! The original was done on paper with limited colors so I felt I needed to redraw it.

The fic itself is still on hiatus as I cannot for the life of me get myself to write anything at the moment. I’m very sorry for it.

Please go read what I do have finished though, I’m trying to get back into it so anyone who is waiting can read it again soon.

I will ruin this land, he hissed, his voice insidious, poisonous. I will tear Hyrule apart piece by piece and make you watch. This world be shrouded in darkness. And when nothing is left, then I will allow you to die. I will make you face the magnitude of your failure and make you beg for death.

The threat made Link feel sick. It would be a blatant lie to say it didn’t. After one hundred years of constant fighting, Link was exhausted. His powers were draining; his light was paler, weaker. Cracks kept appearing in his protective barrier. The light encasing him flickered. 

If he slipped, if he messed up, Ganon would break through that barrier and escape into the world. And then all of Ganon’s threats would be made reality.

Hyrule would be destroyed. The world would be destroyed. Everyone would die and he’d never see Zelda again, Link would never see the end of this.

He couldn’t fail. He couldn’t.

Link's been fighting Calamity Ganon for one hundred years. But how is our impossible sacred prince getting on, trapped with the incarnation of rage and hate?

Totk roleswap because of course I am doing that

(might add on to this when I completely finish the game. I have only mentioned stuff i am absolutely certain about currently)

Link and Zelda finding Ganondorf is different, instead of Rarus hand imprisoning him, its fragments of Sonia and her Time magic. Raru was killed instead of Sonia, his Stone stolen by Ganondorf. Sonia using her stone and time magic to seal herself and Ganondorf in a bubble of frozen time.

Link gets sent to the past instead of Zelda, he was the one to end up falling instead. The Sonias Zonai stone ending up on his person during the chaos of the fall. Zelda while trying to catch Link and ends up grabbing the master sword instead, this is the moment Link teleports to the past and Zelda to the Sky islands

Links arm was still infected with gloom and needed to be amputated when he arrived in the past. The Zonai stone he arrived with helped keep the gloom at bay. Raru takes him under his wing due to his remarkable abilities in serving the light, and to help with the gloom infecting him. Sonia is impressed by his abilities in time magic as well, his flurry rush has a unique use of time magic.

Link doesn't immediately connect the dots of Ganondorf being the corpse that attacked him and Zelda. He does know he absolutely doesn't trust him. Ganondorf doesn't like Link either, mutual hatred for the other.

Before officially meeting Ganondorf, where he tries to brute force his way into taking over Hyrule, the battle goes differently. Instead of a beam of pure magic that nukes the Moldugas, due to not having Zelda around, with Links Zonai stone combined with a boost from Raru and Sonai. Link is able to destroy the Moldugas one by one at a fast pace, a super powered version of his flurry rush. This battle was much more close and Link was a last resort that Sonia suggested last second as a desperate measure. Her hope of powering up his flurry rush worked, she just wished she didn't have to put him in such harms way, however.

Raru is dead, the sages have fallen, Ganondorf is sealed away thanks to Sonia but that's only temporary. Link is at the temple of time, a tale as old as time, he's hoping for an answer, he gets one. Through the sands of time he and Zelda unknowingly briefly connect, Zelda sending not only the master sword but a large portion of her powers of light to him. He briefly remembers that the master sword can heal any damage done to it over time if the holy power is strong enough. He remembers what he was told about Zonai stones and the sacred dragons.

Link turns into a sacred dragon so he can heal the master sword and arrive in the future. Although he isn't a dragon of light like Zelda would have been. He's the dragon of time. A large green dragon that can be seen entering and exiting portals from different eras of time ever since his ascension into the dragon of time. Is the one you're approaching the correct version of him? Will it be the one where the sword is healed or still healing? His golden mane seems to be made of sand. His tears leave behind Sundilions instead of silent princesses. He has one less legs than the other dragons. Zelda feels safer around this dragon and he wonders why. She figures out why when he finds all the dragons tears.

Zelda wakes up at the sky islands, and is led by Sonia. Much like how Link was led by Raru. With Zelda being the mortal goddess and not infected by gloom, he is not restricted by the door of the temple of time like link would have been. Giving the sword and a portion of her powers to link through a hole in time. Now being weaker due to him sacrificing most of his powers to heal the master sword, Sonia guides her to shrines on the islands to help rebuild her strength.

Due to Zelda being distantly related to Sonia and his status as mortal goddess even if she has been weakened, she is able to open the shrines and use anything with the Zonai symbols on them. His reason for going to shrines is to strengthen her powers over light again after giving most of it to Link through time for the purpose of healing the master sword.

I don't think Zelda would fight with a sword or similar weapons. I think he would like bows and magic based weapons and attacks. Distance is her friend, although I doubt you want to be hit full force at close range by his powers even when she's weakened. He's a force to be reckoned with. He's the descendant of a goddess for Pete's sake.

Zelda would love exploring the skies and the depths.

The dragons of times portal ls only work for him. Although you can look through them and see the different eras he's traveling from or to. There are three noticeably different dragons of time, all based on how much the master sword has healed. The first one where he's basically just turned into a dragon and the sword is still heavily damaged. The second one where he's right in the middle of the past and present, the master sword is noticeably still damaged but on its way to being healed. And the third one where it's the most recent version of himself, the master sword is completely healed. But all three can travel through time, and you won't know which version of him it is until you check the master sword. If you try and pull one of the still damaged swords you will be flung into the nearby skies. A good way to get to higher sky islands.

I wouldn't be surprised if Zelda disquises herself, feeling like he can't completely be there for her kingdom without Link. Plus i think Ganon and the Yiga would be more aggressive at hunting him down. Zelda's also never got to try out fully being a him before being a princess and all. Sheik time. I like gender fluid Zelda. Why not both gender? Also Sheik gets to be included, everybody loves Sheik

Some things I haven't added because I would need time to figure it out and write it down. Like Links growing relationships with Raru and Sonai, Mineru, how the final battle goes before and when Sonai seals Ganon, ect. The more dialog heavy story bits mostly.

Zelda brainrot has begun! I was thinking about how comfy the Ordonian clothes looked and wanted to try my hand at giving Zelda and Midna some. Honestly criminal that we only got that outfit on Link during the tutorial and sumo scenes and never saw it again, I would've played the whole game like that.
