shelley duvall’s legacy

hey guys.

so iconic actress shelley duvall died a few days ago and there are already videos on youtube exploiting her “TRAGIC LIFE” for views.

we shouldn’t sweep her trauma and mental illness under the rug. to do so would paint an inaccurate picture of her life, and the film industry should continue to be held accountable for how she was allowed to be treated.

but we cannot let her be another marilyn monroe, another dead star who people drag out every once in a while so everyone will pay them to see the beautiful thing be destroyed.

we cannot let the cultural memory of her be only the most painful parts of her life. it would be a disservice to her and to her loved ones.

lift up her fantastic style, great talent and sweet spirit. yes, she was in the shining, but she did so many comedies. she created several children’s tv shows. she was fucking olive oyl. there was so much more to her life and career than being traumatized. as there is to every person who has experienced trauma.

let’s celebrate her as much as we mourn her.
