Ledaleane Smith, an indentured servant, ideally should have approached more humbly as Amalie had both done and advised, but she was a sharp-tongued woman with buckets of pride and instead smiled confidently while laying out her wish to open a pottery shop selling her wares. This would put her in competition with the Gregg family... but Arndt thinks that might be a good thing!
Bernike and Isidor can't believe how audacious the Smith woman was, but Arndt approved the request before they could truly object.

While Joseph speaks, Amalie inquires as to why Ledaleane is there. When she hears about the pottery studio, Amalie offers a few tips and pointers, but Ledaleane is not interested in being told what to do, thank you very much!

Alojzy, the Earl of Blumenthal, is petitioning for more regular patrols of the Edirann borders. He asks that all travelers provide paperwork when traveling between Penrith, Tenby, and Edirann to ensure any troublemakers and criminals are preventing from entering their kingdom.
His passionate plea was sparked by the kidnapping of his wife, a topic of heated debate among commoners and nobles alike, and there's a murmur of agreement amogst the waiting crowd.
Bernike thinks this is an excellent idea - and it's her immediate assent that almost guarentees that Arndt's temper doesn't flare up. He agrees to provide more soldiers for patrols and to begin the discussion of traveling papers with his future son-in-law Taliesin Kenton.
Reluctantly, he'll also need to speak with Daega Oriol of Penrith, but it will be done.
I was worried Arndt would be grumpy, because he's a brooding loner with three whole nice points, but he seemed all too happy to agree! As a reminder Alojzy is Arndt's first cousin.

It's time for petitions! There's six this week, including two Tenby residents with business in Edirann City, and one of the petitioners is already pleading his case...

Her pottery shed is modest but honestly, Ledaleane loves it. It feels like home. Finally.

Now that they have a bit more space Ledaleane is able to dig up clay on her own to help cut costs when it comes to making pottery. She's hoping she might be able to afford her own stall at some point, maybe even a shop!
Albine thinks she is dreaming too small, but Ledaleane thinks she's just being reasonable.

Given his Thief trait, it's no surprise that Adelard very quickly gives in to his sticky fingers. Poor Ledaleane :(
This time he wasn't caught.
Note that I said this time.

These two don’t always get along, but every now and then Ledaleane manages to get Albine to smile, and it’s always worth the trouble.

Ledaleane has an impressive nose, I must say. (Fun fact: she was added to the household via a RoS roll for a distant relative to move in.)

Our next household - Albine and Ledaleane Smith!
Albine is yet another van Aalsburg - I swear, they are the most prolific sim family I’ve ever had in any neighborhood medieval or modern! - though not descended from the main line.
Her father was the unconventional Tristram, who I believe was a second son but might have been a third, of Mary and Asher van Aalsburgs - the founders of the family. Her mother though, her mother was Roswitha, was from a humble peasant family, though I no longer remember which one. Tristram was in love with his sister-in-law Josseline, and Roswitha was madly in love with Piers (Tristram’s brother - Josseline’s HUSBAND). Yet they found happiness together, if not lifelong love.
Her mother also adopted the Newson’s. But that’s another story!
Having grown up as the daughter of a somewhat shunned parents as part of the gentry class, Albine had no intention of being like her parents. Acceptance was extremely important to her and she married a wealthy landed knight, Matthew Smith, who was her senior by some 30 years in order to secure acceptance by her peers.
They only had one son, Joshua, but then the war ruined everything. Albine secreted Joshua to Tenby, bribing everyone she had to to save her beloved son, and was left indentured, working for the Castelow family. Matthew was imprisoned and died, no doubt to the poor conditions there, but he held out long enough that the Castelow’s knew there would be no use in Albine marrying: she wouldn’t be having any more children. (And she is spitefully delighted by this fact.)
Of course, unluckily for her, Ledaleane (Matthew’s much, much younger sister from his father’s third marriage) IS of an age to be married, and by her association with her brother and Albine, Ledaleane found herself indentured almost as soon as she made arrived in Edirann. She had been in a convent before, sent there by her family, but with everyone else in her family long dead, it felt only right to find Matthew’s son... a decision Ledaleane greatly regrets given she is technically an Edirann citizen and subject to Arndt Blumenthal’s laws.
Yes, Albine should look older, but she’s had a rough life, she gets to be Aes Sedai ageless.
