Arndt and Bernike have a long discussion about Katinka's upcoming stay in the cloister. Their second daughter is rather frustrated that they won't allow her to go directly to her new home, but Arndt and Bernike both feel she needs to be an example, just as her sister is.

Arndt and Bernike have a quick gossip in the hall early before everyone else wakes up - no doubt about Anxo and Nadzieja being so young and silly.

As the children are make nuisances of themselves in his office Arndt hides in one of the upstairs galleries. He knows he can order them to get out, but honestly he needed a bit of a break. Salathiel is not a resident of Edirann, rather he's a resident of the newly formed Archduchy of Tenby, but as he's hoping to export his handmade oils to Edirann he made the journey to petition Arndt for permission to do so.

Seeing no issue with new luxury goods entering the kingdom, Arndt provided permission, though he intends to tax the goods appropriately.

Ledaleane Smith, an indentured servant, ideally should have approached more humbly as Amalie had both done and advised, but she was a sharp-tongued woman with buckets of pride and instead smiled confidently while laying out her wish to open a pottery shop selling her wares. This would put her in competition with the Gregg family... but Arndt thinks that might be a good thing!

Bernike and Isidor can't believe how audacious the Smith woman was, but Arndt approved the request before they could truly object.

Learning her lesson from the last time she approached Arndt with such a request, Amalie approached the throne much more humbly. She claimed that at her age she was beginning to struggle to care for her home and children.

It would mean ever so much to her if Arndt could allow her to hire one of the indentured servants within the kingdom. Tennyson London, perhaps?

Seeing his wife and son looking so encouragingly at him, Arndt grunts his assent. He doesn't like feeling as though they're treating him like a recalcitrant child, and to be fair the London girl does need work.

Humbly, Joseph Hartman approaches the throne. He wishes for his family to advance in society, which means purchasing the title of baron. But this must be approved by the crown - something Katinka thinks is a no brainer - and thankfully, Arndt sees no issues with the Hartman family becoming nobility.

The cost will be $50,000, which goes directly to the Blumenthal family.

Young as she is, Lisolette has to stay up in the gallery, but she's curious about the proceedings and sneaks a look over the bannister.

Alojzy, the Earl of Blumenthal, is petitioning for more regular patrols of the Edirann borders. He asks that all travelers provide paperwork when traveling between Penrith, Tenby, and Edirann to ensure any troublemakers and criminals are preventing from entering their kingdom.

His passionate plea was sparked by the kidnapping of his wife, a topic of heated debate among commoners and nobles alike, and there's a murmur of agreement amogst the waiting crowd.

Bernike thinks this is an excellent idea - and it's her immediate assent that almost guarentees that Arndt's temper doesn't flare up. He agrees to provide more soldiers for patrols and to begin the discussion of traveling papers with his future son-in-law Taliesin Kenton.

Reluctantly, he'll also need to speak with Daega Oriol of Penrith, but it will be done.

I was worried Arndt would be grumpy, because he's a brooding loner with three whole nice points, but he seemed all too happy to agree! As a reminder Alojzy is Arndt's first cousin.
