In the end, Jemma’s location spell does the trick. Well, kind of. The enchantment leads you through paranormal markets under the city, finding the right people to interrogate. It turns out vampires have few friends in your city. People who seek out vampires are either signing their own death warrant or ready to stake a few of the arrogant bloodsuckers.
Either way, it wasn’t anyone else’s business. One lead turns into a dead end. Another has no substantial foundation. Yet another tries to extort money and goods out of you, which led to Jemma actually turning that informant into a toad. With each new bit of information, you’re all led further and further out of the city.
Eventually, weeks after Tabaeus left, a tip finally strikes solid and true.
Two states away from home, you sit in a rental car with Jemma, Ewan, Liuva and Bjarka at a late-night diner. Despite the time of night and the fact the building is shuttered up, the mall across the way from the diner is seemingly popular.
Even when you ask the waitress - Tess, she/her - if there’s an event going on over at the mall, she shoots you a puzzled look. When her eyes flick up to the window, you spot a glaze tinting her gaze as she informs you, “Nothing’s supposed to be happening over there. The old mall is about as dead as it ever is.”
Even as the waitress stares, you watch one group head into the allegedly abandoned building as others leave. Some are elegant, others are crude and punkish. Yet it seems Tess does not see or notice them.
As the waitress falls into her rehearsed spiel, you share a look with Ewan and Jemma. Tess doesn’t seem to acknowledge the dense air settling around your group as you all realize she - and likely the rest of the diner’s staff - is under some vampiric sway. You push the discomfort away before ordering.
Something burns in your chest. Tabaeus has to be nearby. This feels like the right place, but you have no reason beyond the smoldering in your chest. You never felt like this with any other lead before. Or maybe you’re just tired of searching, sick of getting your hopes up.
After you’ve finished your meal - saying nothing further of the mall to the staff - the three of you trudge to the parking lot.
“What’s the plan?” Ewan takes out his phone, swiping through random apps. It’s only when he points vaguely toward the highway that you realize he’s putting on a front for anyone potentially spying on you. His green eyes tilt toward you, uncharacteristic seriousness making his words sobering, “Are we heading in now or biding time?”
“We should bust in, magic blazing.” From the backseat, Jemma leans forward, her own phone in hand. She, too, has taken up Ewan’s ruse.
Unlike the other two, you don’t bother with a phone. Shaking your head, you fight the urge to flick your gaze back toward the mall. “I think we should be subtle.”
Silence settles over the car as Jemma and Ewan continue to look at their phones, their hands, you. Anywhere but directly at the mall. If anyone watched your little crew, they’d believe it wasn’t even on your radar, you think.
Finally, something glints in Jemma’s eyes as she meets your gaze, raising her eyebrows. “Don’t malls usually have skylights or vents on the roof?”
“They’ll hear us coming.” Another shake of your head. Besides, how would the three of you get up there without causing a commotion?
Ewan nods to the back where the imps-turned-sugar gliders sit with ethereal intelligence gleaming in their eyes. The two have been silent as potential plans have bounced around the car. Upon them being noticed, Bjarka and Liuvia exchange a look. Wordless communication flies between them until Bjarka nods and says, “We will do it for a pie.”
You frown at their little demand. “I thought you wanted Tabaeus back.”
“We do,” Liuvia says, but they smile in a way that reminds you they are supernatural, “But we also want pie. A strawberry rhubarb one.”
With a heavy sigh, you glance from the imps to Jemma and Ewan. They both return your look with mild amusement and shrug.
“Ugh fine,” you sigh as you open your door. “You could’ve said something when we were still inside.”
“You didn’t ask,” chirrups one of the imps, though you’re not sure which as the door closes. You trek back to the diner, still fighting the urge to look toward the mall. Despite your efforts to remain realistic, you can’t help but feel a little lighter. As if you were one step closer to a conclusion.
—
It’s early morning, just as the sun half climbs above the horizon line, when you decide to put your plan into action. Through a scrying mirror conjured up by Jemma, you watch as Bjarka and Liuvia embark toward the mall from the nearby woods you deposited them in the night previous. The two dart along the dwindling shadows as dawn rises. As squirrels, they easily scale the building and prance along the roof with light steps. They duck and bounce around, taking stock of their options as far as vents, grates, and skylights go.
As the imps decide their next course of action, the rest of you wait. Liuvia and Bjarka eventually pry a grate off a vent and clatter into the metal tunnel. The image on the mirror follows as they scurry through the twisty ventilation. The motion and lighting makes your stomach cramp, so you turn away.
You sit in the backseat with Jemma, who continues to watch the mirror, eyebrows furrowed. In the front, Ewan drives. Last night, after leaving the imps behind, the rest of you drove off and found a clearing to hunker down in for the night. Sleep hadn’t been easy and, now, exhaustion battles in your veins with mounting adrenaline as you near the mall again.
Your plan banks on the fact Lachlan and Tabaeus are different - older, stronger, more powerful - than the average vampire. That should make walking into the mall-turned-vampire-nest easier. Well, as long as Bjarka and Liuvia managed to unlock a door for you.
As Ewan pulls the car into the mall’s parking lot and settles the car in a spot close to the door, he turns to Jemma. “How’re the smallfries doing?”
“They can see us and they’re unlocking the door now,” Jemma answers and, with a wave of her hand, the scrying mirror fizzles off. She’s already climbing out of the car, stowing the mirror in her bag. Despite long conversations last night, Ewan and yourself weren’t able to dissuade the witch from coming along.
“Ready?” Ewan pops his door open, though he’s still turned toward you. Concern etches into his features, as if he’s on the brink of saying you didn’t have to come along. He could handle this, he could save Tabaeus in your place.
But he can’t. Something in you knows this. With a swallow, you nod and open your own door.
The trek into the mall is short and blessedly uneventful. There don’t appear to be any vampiric thralls or familiars standing guard. Perhaps it is hubris on Lachlan’s part, but you don’t dismiss the possibilities of guards or problems deeper inside the building.
Liuvia and Bjarka hitch a ride in Jemma’s bag as Ewan leads your group, with you smack in the middle. He tilts his face up, nose twitching. The barest of a transformation touches Ewan’s features. Some thicker hair, a slew of stubble, the vaguest shift of a nose becoming a snout. He’s delaying the transformation to keep the vampires from sensing him, but you’re sure he’s nervous.
Hell, you’re nervous. You strain to hear the smallest sound, nearly holding your breath the farther you wander into the mall. For the most part, it’s silent. You don’t see or sense anyone else around, other than your group. Though that’s not saying much, considering you’re just a human. With a glance to Jemma, then to Ewan, you confirm nothing seems immediately suspicious.
Though their features are pinched as they focus, neither says or indicates a danger is nearby.
Faintly, you wonder how long he can hold a semi-shift as your eyes take in the corridor. Illumination surprisingly spills in from the sunlights. The stores appear chained and locked, the windows blacked out. Squinting at the locks and darkness, you wonder if there’s more beyond. Is each store a vampire’s personal territory? Is it like a hotel here? Or are they all lower in the building?
All five of you remain as silent as possible as you journey deeper and deeper. Past stores, through the food court, to a stairwell. Jemma conjures up a ball of light without further instruction, lighting the stairs. The aesthetic of the mall holds firm with tiled walls as you descend to the underground section of the mall. A vague chill creeps along your limbs, realizing you’re now underground.
Apparently, the basement is still a commercial area, you realized as the stairs open up to another floor of storefronts. Here, however, the stores are larger and, if you squint, you realize there’s faded signs like ‘bowling alley’ and ‘community development’ hanging over the entryways. No light manages to filter this far down, though. You try not to think about that as you follow Ewan, who keeps close to the walls.
Along with the faint chill, the silence of the area weighs heavily in your ears. It’s too quiet, even as your group scuttles over the expanse of tiled floor.
Quickly enough, you’re led down a slightly obscured hall, before Ewan finds another door. Pushing it open reveals a second set of stairs. This time, the stairwell feels industrial. There’s no happy white-and-blue tiled designs. Just stark metal and industrial grey that devolves into shadows as you peer down into the stairwell.
There’s a brief moment when you look at Ewan and Jemma. Their gaze seeks yours as well, checking to see if you’re still determined to continue. As one, the three of you nod. Jemma hoists the light a fraction higher and it glows a little more intently as you all descend.
The atmosphere grows colder, now raking across any bare skin. Dankness tinges the air as you notice thick gatherings of cobwebs and dead rats on the stairs. Eventually, you come to a landing that leads to a heavy door. The air is locked in your lungs as Ewan slowly shoulders the door open, obscuring your view as he peers around the other side.
After a beat, he opens the door further and the scent of damp and mildew overpowers the air around you. You choke down a cough as Ewan motions for you to follow him into a darkened hall.
If possible, it’s even harder to discern your surroundings now as you follow the werewolf. The shadows seem deeper, darker, more dangerous. The chill in the air bites at your throat. From the light of Jemma’s magic orb, your gaze follows various pipes and catches on rusted, industrial machinery. You have no clue what this all is. Elevator and escalator mechanisms? Gas piping for the food court? Long-abandoned generators?
Whatever is down here, you feel the vague sensation of continuing to go downward, on a gentle slope.
A startle rocks through you as you freeze, hearing something skitter on the concrete floor and echo in the distance. The other two pause. In the span of a breath, fur sprouts from Ewan and his face elongates further, his limbs and muscles growing. A crackle of energy hisses behind you, but you can’t bring yourself to turn and see what Jemma has conjured.
A low rumble of a growl catches in Ewan’s throat as you all wait.
Nothing and no one makes itself known. Slowly, you all carry on in the darkness.
You’re not sure how far you walk when Ewan stops and turns suddenly. You follow as he stalks down an adjacent hall - one you barely even saw - and stops at a wrought-iron door. This time, he doesn’t look at you and Jemma.
Ewan reaches for the large handle, yanking it open so fast your heart trips.
Soft, warm light spills over you from the room on the other side of the door. Rapidly, you blink to dispel the blots of blurry color. The room slowly takes shape in front of your eyes.
Lanterns hang around a large circular room, glowing low and vague. The room is as industrial as the rest of the underground hell, with large pipes and metal and machines. At odds with the metal, however, are mountains of cushions and fabrics draped haphazardly around the room. The pillows and fabrics - of all colors and styles and sheerness levels - bring some color to the deary grey, but somehow that makes the room worse. It sends agitation scraping down your spine.
Then your gaze lights on Tabaeus.
They are chained to a hulking system of pipes, lounging on a smaller hill of pillows. They’re naked, covered only in bruises and fresh bite marks. Their head lolls back, their hair a tangled waterfall. Your heart cracks at the sight, the rest of the world melting away as you step closer to them.
“You’re free to try and take Tabaeus, but… Well, they likely won’t go. This is what they know, this is home.” Lachlan’s voice shocks you from your thoughts. Your attention jerks to Ewan and Jemma, both looking as startled as you feel. Their attention doesn’t snap to the door you just entered from - nor any other dark crevice on your level.
No, you realize their attention is tilted upward. You follow the angle of their gazes and dread curdles in your guts. Lachlan is positioned overhead, on some sort of walkway that snakes through the pipes. He sits on a railing, draped in a way that screams egotistical ease and surety. Others linger behind him, ranging in muted hues and wearing clothing from an array of eras. More pallid vampires start to poke their attention out from the dark shadows of the room, all watching you with red eyes.
Mounting dismay fills your chest before you see Lachlan’s smile twists into something smug. In an instant, rage flares in your chest. Your hands fist at your sides, your shoulders straightening as you glare up at Lachlan. Somehow, through the sick sensations in your stomach, you manage to bite out, “Let Tabaeus be the judge of that.”
Lachlan’s answering chuckle makes your blood boil as he languidly motions toward Tabaeus. “Be my guest.”

The Celebrity Next Door: Chapter 13-Discovering Home
Pairings: Jensen Ackles x Reader
Chapter Summary: Jensen brings Y/N home to Texas to show her something important, and reveal some truth, and maybe ask a very important question.
Warnings: Slight angst, mentions of physical abuse, mentions of cheating, but fluff.
Series Masterlist here!! & Main masterlist here!
Six months ago, if you had told me I'd be impuslively traveling to Texas with the love of my life, Jensen Ackles, to see something important to him, I would have thought you were crazy. Adding that Jensen is a adored celebrity, would have only made me scoff.
Yet, here we were, at the airport, buying tickets on Jensen's insistence to "show me something." It was unreal how quickly my life had changed. Anyone hearing our story might assume I was after his fame or fortune, or that I loved only his outside persona.
But Jensen and I knew better. We loved each other deeply. Deeper than we've ever loved before.
I also in no way wanted Jensen to pay for my ticket. I insisted and begged and lightly argued to pay, but Jensen, ever the gentleman, insisted on covering the cost since it was his idea.
We boarded the plane quickly, benefiting from his celebrity status, and soon found ourselves on our way.
To Austin, Texas.
After landing, we hit the ground running. Jensen handled the car rental while I grabbed us coffee, both of us eager to reach... well, wherever he was taking me.
Jensen seemed tense, his anxiety evident as we drove, leaving me wondering if he was nervous about what he wanted to show me, or perhaps dreading what he might experience.
His grip on the steering wheel was tight before my hand rested reassuringly on his. He managed a small smile as he lowered the radio. "I'm sorry, I'm probably acting weird."
Shaking my head, I offered him a supportive smile. "No, you just seem a little nervous. Is everything okay?"
He nodded, lifting my hand to his lips and kissing gently. "I will be."
It didn't take long for us to arrive. Pulling into the driveway, I was stunned by the most gorgeous, and biggest looking house I've ever seen. It was stunning-white and cream bricks, large windows, and a lawn so green it seemed unreal.
Stepping out of the car, Jensen followed suit, as my eyes took it all in. I turned towards him slowly, "Who's house is this?"
Jensen smiled nervously, taking my hand firmly. "It's mine. It's where Sarah and I used to live."
I nodded understandingly, pulling him in for a tight hug. "Is this why you were so nervous?"
He shrugged shyly, leading me towards the door and unlocking it with his keys. As we stepped inside, I was blown away once again. The interior was flooded with light, releasing warmth with its wooden walls, beams and floors-a Pinterest-worthy dream home brought to life. Seeing this side of Jensen felt like stepping into his mind.
I turned to face him with a grin, "Wow, this place is incredible."
He smiled gratefully. "Thank you. We put a lot of work into it. You should have seen it before-it had a real '90s vibe."
Giggling, I glanced around at the posters, photographs, and the unique decor. Then, noticing jensen still looked anxious, I realized I had gotten carried away with admiring the house. "I'm sorry, you brought me here to show me something, didn't you?"
He shook his head, smiling softly. "No, I'm glad you like it. It means you like me."
I nodded, leaning in to kiss his cheek. "I do. Is that why you brought me here?"
He hesitated, scratching his neck nervously. "Sort of. Yesterday we talked-or argued-about how there's nothing keeping me in LA. I wanted to show you why I stayed, and why I haven't wanted to come back."
I nodded and followed him as he led me around the house, his anxiety rising with each step. We paused in the kitchen, where he finally began to explain.
"This is where our problems started, and where our relationship began to dissolve. I came home from filming, and she picked a fight over nothing, just coming home later than I usually do. It escalated quickly-she criticized my career, said Supernatural's end marked the end of my success. It was out of nowhere. We were fine one moment, and the next she was cold and unforgiving."
I listened quietly, knowing words wouldn't heal the wounds he carried. We moved to a glass room in the back, similar to a green room, where Jensen visibly winced at the memories flooding back.
"This is where one of our worst fights took place. After dropping the kids off for a sleepover, I returned to find her here, cleaning. I offered to help, and she accused me of slacking off at home. It escalated into a huge fight.."
He stopped suddenly and I could see himself zoning out, haunted by the memories. Stepping closer, I placed a comforting hand on his arm, apologizing when he flinched.
He manages a sad smile, leading me to sit with him on the couch. "Sorry. Anyways, things got out of hand and she lost her mind on me. She attacked me verbally, hitting below the belt about my parenting, my career, my age, and just beating me down. She kept pushing me and I said some unkind things back, you know how I get when I'm defensive-but I shouldn't have, and she ended up losing it, and threw a bottle at me in anger, hitting me right in the head. I ended up in the hospital with stitches, but the thing that hurt the most was the mental guilt she put me through, she blamed me for pushing her to that point and i believed it. I refused to tell anybody because I was ashamed that I did that, I drove her that crazy."
My heart ached for him, tears welling up at the pain he had suffered. His demeanour, so closed off and bitter, finally made sense. His hand tightened around mine as he stood, frowning at me.
"I know this is heavy," he apologies. "I have one last place to show you."
He led me down the hallway to a small black door at the end. Pushing it open, he gestured for me to go first. It was unmistakably his bedroom, but what struck me was its beauty, a gasp of amazement almost escaped me.
"This is where it all fell apart. She texted me earlier in the day, and ended things. Said she wanted a divorce, and asked me to stay somewhere else. I decided to come home and talk to her about it, because I didn't understand how we got to that point and how she could tell me this over text.. but when i came home I found her... with one of my good friends."
My head spun as I turned to him, shock evident on my face. He nodded understandingly and shrugged, "I blamed myself for our problems for so long. When she asked for the divorce, I knew it was because of me. But seeing her here with him, I realized it wasn't me. I packed up my bags and I left. The reason she's in LA now is because of the kids, we both spoke about trying to get auditions here, maybe move here, not just me. But she made it seem like she made his huge sacrifice."
I bit my lip hard, tears threatening to spill out any moment. He turned to me, brushing hair from my face with concern.
"Shit, Honey are you okay?"
I nodded, tears already falling, quickly hiding my face in my hands. "Yeah.. I'm sorry."
"You don't need to apologize," he murmured, wiping away my tears, "Tell me why you're crying, was that too much? I know it was a lot..."
I shook my head frantically, reaching my hand to his. "Oh god no, Jensen you did nothing wrong and I'm so thankful you told me. I'm just... sad for what you went through." I managed between sobs. "I'm angry and sad and..."
He held me tightly, resting his chin on my forehead until the tears diminished. After a while of silence, he cleared his throat, speaking again. "I don't want you to feel sorry for me and I really don't want you to cry over what I've been through. I'm okay, more than okay now. I brought you here only to show you that I stayed in LA because I wasn't ready to come back."
I finally understood the pain he was trying to avoid, unable to face his past here. His coldness and bitterness was justified.
"There's another reason I brought you here." he admitted shyly.
I smiled, encouraging him to continue. He took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for whatever he wanted to say.
"You were right when you said I should be here. It's not fair for my kids to live in two different places, and I would be able to spend more time with them if i moved back here, and I don't want to put you in a position or pressure you or anything..."
I chuckled softly, placing my hand over his heart to calm him. "Take a breath. Whatever you want to say, just say it."
He nodded, taking a deep breath. "I want to move back here, with you. I know you're worried about me moving for the wrong reasons, but if you want to stay in LA, I'll stay with you. I'll make it work with my kids. I just want to be with you."
His words left me stunned. He paused, color draining from his face. "If you want to move somewhere else, not into this house, I'll understand. I just want you with me, and I..."
I cut him off gently, placing a hand over his mouth with a giggle to quiet his nerves. After a moment he smiled back at me and took a breathe, and I spoke. "We will move here. Together."
I released my hand, and he stared at me in disbelief, blinking rapidly. "Really?"
I nodded firmly. "Yes. I lvoe you, and I love your kids. I can't imagine being without you. And if your comfortable with living here, I'd love to share this beautiful house with you, it's filled with your personality."
He nodded slowly, pushing his head down. I lifted his chin with my finger and saw tears in my eyes. "Jensen, don't cry. What's wrong?"
He shook his head, chuckling softly. "I thought I might lose you. I didn't expect you to agree."
"I'll follow you anywhere, Jensen." I assured him. "But before we finalize our plans, there's one thing I'd like to ask."
He nodded eagerly, urging me to continue.
"I want to go home to New York to visit my parents, share the news with them, and I'd like to bring you and the kids, if Sarah agrees. I also need time to sell the townhouse and find a new job, or see about a transfer."
He squeezed my hand tightly, "Don't worry. We'll do whatever you need. I'll talk to Sarah, and if you can't do a transfer you can take a break from work if you'd like. There are also plenty of opportunities if you decide to change career paths."
My heart raced with excitement as I looked around the room-now ours. It was a big step, but I was ready to take it if it meant a future with him, forever.

When Beomgyu said he wanted to take her somewhere fun, YN thought maybe they’d go to to an arcade or even lotte world. But, when he excitedly took her hand to pull her into an roller skating rink she grew more nervous than ever. YN had only been skating less than a hand full of times and she was certain she was going to make a fool of herself.
They came upon the rental desk and asked for their sizes from the young worker behind the counter. Beomgyu’s smile beamed as he took their skates and led YN to one of the many benches. He motioned for her to take a seat while he knelt on the floor, adjusting the laces for her skates as she took her own shoes off. He reached for her foot to put her skates on for her, but she jerked her leg trying to take the skates herself. Beomgyu furrowed his brows and whined.
“Hey! I’m trying to be romantic here,” he huffed. YN stifled a giggle as she watched Beomgyu’s infamous pout take form as he resumes putting her skates on for her. He took the heel of her feet and carefully pushed the skates on, tying them securely and making sure they’re comfortable.
“Is this something Danny would do for Sandy?” YN asked as Beomgyu got up to sit on the bench and put his own skates on. He shrugged, “I dunno. But, it’s definitely something Beomgyu would do for YN.”
YN couldn’t help the blush overtaking her cheeks and the tips of her ears. He always said cheeky things like this, why are they starting to get to her just now?
Beomgyu didn’t notice the redness of her ears when he got up and took her hands, guiding her to the rink. He carefully walked backwards, trying not to laugh at the panicked steps she was taking and the power grip she had on his fingers. They entered the rink and YN turned into a stiff board. She refused to let go of Beomgyu’s hands, pleading with him to help her.
“Relax,” Beomgyu laughed. “It’s easy! Just glide through your steps!”
It was no use. YN shook her head fiercely, refusing to move her legs in fear of falling. It was actually rather amusing seeing the way she bit her bottom lip, trying to stop herself from crying as Beomgyu gently pulled her along the wall of the rink. He carefully placed her hands on the edge and tried to wiggle his hands free.
“No, Beomgyu, please don’t let go,” she pleaded desperately. Beomgyu let his hands travel from her arm up to her shoulder and down to her waist, assuring her that he had her and wasn’t going to let her fall. He positioned himself beside her, hands on either side of her waist.
“Don’t worry. I got you. Just follow my lead,” he whispered into her ear. YN felt the stiffness in her body dissipate, replaced with the relaxation of being secure in Beomgyu’s grasp. He slowly began guiding her steps, gently pushing her. YN still kept one hand on the ledge as she clumsily tried to glide through her steps like he said.
Embarrassment aside, YN was already starting to feel better. She nearly forgot all about the messages from Soojung. It was almost like they never happened. All that mattered to her in this moment was being with Beomgyu. Hearing his laugh and teasing comments all while doing his best to take care of her and make sure she didn’t fall. The smell of his cologne rubbing off his shirt onto her shoulder. And, most importantly, his flirtatious advances all covered under the guise of ‘method acting’. Hm. Method acting.
YN didn’t date. She claims to have more important things to worry about than having a boyfriend. But, she never knew it could be this lovely having one. Beomgyu may not have been her real boyfriend, but he sure knew how to act like it. Maybe it was just in his innate nature to be a bit of a flirt, but either way, it felt nice. It felt nice being attended to and called such lovely things. It felt nice being looked at like she was the most precious thing in the world. It was just a shame it was all a part of an act. But, YN couldn’t deny she was loving every second of it and pretending like it was real for her. Even if it’s just in brief intervals. She’d never admit it out loud. It’s better it’s not real. Less to worry about when she finally moves to New York.
Too engrossed in her clouded mind, YN almost didn’t notice how Beomgyu had let go. A mischievous smile across his lips as he slowly let go of her waist, watching as she started skating by herself.
“There you go!” He exclaims, immediately bringing her out of her thoughts. YN is startled and looks back to see Beomgyu a few feet behind her. His distance makes her hyperaware of her position, causing her to forget how to move and begin stumbling. She gasps, trying to reach for the ledge to catch herself when she feels Beomgyu pull up behind her and wrap his arms around her waist. He held her so tight she held her breath.
She looks up at him, eyes wide and clearly frightened. Beomgyu looked down at her with a small reassuring smile. His eyes were so gentle, almost like they were spilling out with adoration as he stared at those pretty features looking up at him. “I told you I got you,” he reminded sweetly.
They took a break briefly to have lunch. Beomgyu went to order from the concession bar, leaving YN at a table with her thoughts again. She couldn’t shake off the feeling of Beomgyu’s arms around her. It wasn’t the first time he held her, considering the scenes they’ve rehearsed so far. But, it felt different this time. It felt real.
When Beomgyu returned, she blinked herself back to reality and smiled up at him. He set down her order and took the seat across from her. YN watched him settle in, unaware that she had her chin in the palm of her hand and was smiling like a fool. He had the prettiest eyes…
“So, how are we feeling?”
YN furrowed her brows, immediately sitting up straight. “What?”
“Are you feeling better?” Beomgyu rephrased, looking at her with concern. “You seem like you have a lot on your mind.”
Yeah, you, YN thought.
“Do you wanna talk about what happened? I’m here for you, you know? I know we’re just costars and all, but I’d like to think of us as friends, too,” Beomgyu smiled, reaching out to take her hand in his. He gently stroked his thumb across her knuckles. His touch felt so comforting.
“I don’t know,” YN sighs. “I’m starting to think maybe I’m being childish. It was so long ago, you know? And people probably don’t even remember any of it, so maybe it really wasn’t that big of a deal?”
Beomgyu furrowed his brows and shook his head, his grip on YN’s hand tightening. “No. You were hurt, and you still are. Don’t dismiss your feelings like that! Her intentions clearly aren’t pure and that’s really messed up. You have every right to feel reluctant to accept her sketchy apology.”
Beomgyu seemed more upset than YN. His eyes were sharp, the warmth they radiated replaced with.. pain? One would think Soojung had personally wronged him with the way he held his ground so firmly. Of course, only Beomgyu knew why he felt so strongly about this. He knows how painful it is to be wronged and receive a half-assed apology.
“I suppose you’re right,” YN says carefully, staring at the way her hand fit so perfectly in his. “I guess this is just one of those things she does to get in my head.”
“From now on, only focus on me,” Beomgyu proposed. “We’re the only two people you should be worried about until this is all over. Okay?”
YN smiled and nodded. Beomgyu held his pinky up, making her promise to keep her word. She obliged, wrapping her pinky around his and locking their promise. It wasn’t a hard task. After all, she’s been focused solely on him since he texted her that afternoon. She liked thinking about him. About Choi Beomgyu.

Blockchain & Beyond: The Decentralized Future
What’s up, Tumblr fam! 👋 Today we’re diving into something that’s about to blow your mind—decentralized technology. I’m Joshua Lori, your host for Business Story of the Week, where we dig into the stories and ideas that are shaping the future of business and tech.
This week, I had the privilege of chatting with none other than Roberto Capodieci, a tech entrepreneur and blockchain guru. 🔥 If you’ve ever wondered how decentralized tech will change your life (and trust me, it WILL), then keep reading.👇
🚀 Roberto's Decentralization Journey
Roberto’s story starts way back in his childhood when he was playing around with CB radios and bulletin board systems. Even then, he was fascinated by communication and how technology could connect people from opposite ends of the globe. 🌍 His curiosity eventually led him to decentralized systems like Napster and BitTorrent, where he learned the power of peer-to-peer networks.
Roberto is passionate about how decentralization could transform EVERYTHING—from how we buy houses to how we exchange digital assets. No middlemen. No barriers. Just peer-to-peer connections. 💡
🏡 How Blockchain is Changing Real Estate
One of the coolest things Roberto talked about is how blockchain can completely revolutionize the real estate game. Picture this: you can own a piece of a house—like, literally buy a token that represents a share in a property. When that house earns rental income, you get a slice of the pie! 🍕
Decentralized tech is breaking down walls and making it easier for everyday people to invest in real estate. You don’t need to be a millionaire to own property anymore—all thanks to blockchain!
🎮 Gaming + Blockchain = The Future
Let’s get real for a second: Gaming is HUGE. And it’s going to get even bigger with blockchain tech. Imagine owning a digital avatar in one game and being able to bring that same avatar—with all its gear and accessories—into another game. 🎮
This kind of seamless ownership is only possible with decentralized tech, and it's going to be a game-changer. (Pun intended, haha!)
🌍 The Big Picture: Blockchain and AI
Roberto also dropped some MAJOR knowledge about the future of blockchain and AI. 🤖 He’s working on decentralizing AI itself—yep, you heard that right. Imagine a world where AI isn’t controlled by big corporations but is instead spread out across a peer-to-peer network. No more bias, no more centralized control. Sounds like a dream, right?
💡 Final Thoughts
Decentralization is coming, and it’s going to change everything from how we do business to how we play video games. Blockchain and AI are going to be at the heart of this transformation. 🌱 If you’re not already on board, now’s the time to dive in and start learning.
Got thoughts? 💬 Drop me a message, and let’s chat about the future of decentralized tech!
Stay tuned for more Business Story of the Week—we’ve got some killer guests coming up!

While monied industry groups merely affect the posture of grassroots action and woke language while advancing high level political and legal crusades, small landlords like Lincoln Eccles, uniquely affected both by the pandemic’s economic precarity and its emergency regulations, have taken to the streets and Twitter, where they trumpet slogans like “landlords are people too,” “justice for mom’n’pop housing providers,” and “small landlord lives matter.” Some have even rebranded themselves as “indentured landlords,” “carelords,” and “community-based landlords.” When the New York City Council mulled a bill to target discrimination against formerly incarcerated tenants, a state committee member and shareholder of a Bronx gated community, spun it as “The End of Black Landlords.”
This narrative—and the cash machine behind it—has proven effective in swaying politicians, blunting tenant progress. It was reportedly influential in stopping Good Cause Eviction for the fifth straight year. Discussing the bill, a central Brooklyn assembly member representing a district of nearly three quarters Black renters argued that regulating rent increases would actually lead to “Black grandmas out on the street.” New York Mayor Eric Adams, himself a landlord, said in February that it’s important to “remember that small property owner—who came from the Caribbean [and] was able to buy a ten-unit house—how their increases are going up, what they’re going through.” When pressed by a Holocaust survivor tenant about city-wide rent increases on stabilized units approved by the Rent Guidelines Board, the members of which he appoints, Adams accused her talking to him like a “plantation owner.”
This pernicious rhetoric has succeeded not only at moving liberals but at arming conservatives, offering them the guise of populism while muddying the waters of debate. It has allowed the real estate establishment to cannily exploit the contradictory commitment of Democrats to both wealth-building through private property and, nominally, social justice.
For landlords, the language of victimization, which both identity politics and right-wing grievance draw upon, proves a potent force, tying together a relatively economically and politically diverse movement. It is the central engine of real estate’s outrage machine. No matter how absurd some manifestations of the social justice-minded mom-and-pop trope are, they’re the face of a deadly serious campaign—one close to snuffing out rent control entirely.
The narrative of the “woke” mom-and-pop landlord has since been taken up across the country. During public hearings about a new rent control program in St. Paul, an opponent—on Zoom from a beach vacation, naturally—characterized the policy as a form of redlining. Small landlords seeking to roll back rent control in Portland, Maine, adopted progressive language to do so, with some arguing that their willingness to rent to asylum seekers, those on federal housing vouchers, and other marginalized communities demonstrates notable liberal bonafides. In Seattle, opposition to a local measure was led by a mom-and-pop group called Seattle Grassroots Landpeople. A Democratic city councilwoman in Minneapolis who led the charge to scrap consideration of a rent control program derided tenant advocates as “wealthy beer drinking pants rolled up white men” who need to “get out of mommy’s basement.” In a landlord forum, she described her role as “getting ready, putting my lipstick on, curling my hair and selling our message. [Landlords] are the experts at giving me what I’m selling.”
…
Outside of New York, this dynamic has played out most notably in California. The successful fight against Los Angeles’s pandemic eviction moratorium was led in part by the Coalition of Small Rental Property Owners, “a California-based advocacy group that mostly represents black and Latinx landlords.” This past February, one small landlord launched a hunger strike to push for the end of Alameda County’s eviction moratorium, calling himself and other immigrant landlords “victims of government abuse.” The moratorium was ended by April.
Across the country, small landlords wielding social justice language are on the march, but their efforts could prove unnecessary. At the time of writing, the Supreme Court is mulling whether or not to hear any combination of five separate challenges to New York’s rent control law. Rent control has previously been upheld by the court, but with a ultra-conservative majority unbothered by established precedent, there’s ample reason to think they may take the case on—and undermine, if not outright abolish, rent control. Amid a national housing crisis in which rent prices are up just over 30 percent from 2019, the average American tenant is rent-burdened, eviction filings are 50 percent higher than the pre-pandemic average in some cities, and homelessness has reached record highs, the few restrictions on rent hikes that exist could be made unconstitutional overnight. The effects would be catastrophic, especially on renters of color.

The number of housing cooperatives rose steadily, if not sharply, after World War I. And all but a handful of them went up in the early and mid-1920s. What is more, a few labor unions were showing a growing interest in cooperative housing. In the forefront were the Amalgamated Clothing Workers, the ILGWU, and a few other needle trades unions, many of whose members had been hard hit by the postwar housing shortage, which had driven vacancy rates down to record levels and sent apartment rents skyrocketing. During the early 1920s the Amalgamated, the ILGWU, and a group consisting of tenants’ leagues, religious organizations, and an insurance company came to the conclusion that the housing problem of the working class could only be solved by applying the principle of “collective self-help” and thereby eliminating the landlords and their excessive profits. At its annual convention in 1924 the Amalgamated passed a resolution in favor of building a housing cooperative. And a year later the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Corporation, which had been formed by Abraham Kazan and other members of the Amalgamated’s credit union, acquired thirteen acres in the North Bronx, at the edge of Van Cortlandt Park, for what would become the Amalgamated Houses. At the same time the ILGWU joined forces with a few other needle trades unions to sponsor a $2 million housing cooperative in the South Bronx, which would be designed by Andrew J. Thomas and constructed by the Labor Home Building Corporation. Known as the Thomas Garden Apartments, it would provide homes on the Grand Concourse for roughly 170 working-class families. Besides the support of some influential New Yorkers like Clarence Stein, the needle trades unions had a couple of other things going for them. During the 1920s the United States was in the midst of a nationwide “Own Your Own Home” campaign. Led by the US Department of Labor and the National Association of Real Estate Boards, the campaign was based on the deep-seated (and long-standing) view that homeowners were better, happier, more productive, and more responsible than tenants. As Secretary of Commerce Robert Lamont said in 1931, “It is doubtful whether democracy is possible where tenants overwhelmingly outnumber home owners.” The Own Your Own Home campaign was focused on the residents (or prospective residents) of single-family homes. But many New Yorkers were convinced that the benefits of homeownership applied to apartment-house dwellers as well. Starting in the late nineteenth century, a few New Yorkers had built cooperative apartment houses for the well-to-do, mainly on the Upper East Side and other posh Manhattan neighborhoods. Several others followed suit after World War I. And in an effort to circumvent the Emergency Rent Laws, which imposed rent control in New York and Buffalo in 1920, still others converted rentals into cooperatives.

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (FOX 9) - Ramsey County law enforcement officials said what started out as a plan to catch a credit card thief led them to a "disturbing and dangerous" discovery at an Airbnb in Maple Grove.
Images shared by the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office show 11 guns found at a home in Maple Grove, including stashed in board games and a McDonald’s bag.
"The guns were in backpacks, purses, above the furnace, in the walls, behind couches," said Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher. "This is the fourth Airbnb incident involving guns. We had three here in St. Paul. We had one in Roseville."
Finding the weapons actually started with the search for a 17-year-old suspect from St. Paul. Deputies said the repeat juvenile offender stole credit cards from a car in Shoreview last week and used them at Target.
Deputies learned the teen's mom had reserved an Airbnb in Maple Grove Saturday night for his birthday party, so they staked out the home. More than 50 people between the ages of 15 and 21 were inside, along with alcohol and marijuana. Deputies have had contact with most of the party attendees before because they belong to a group that's been involved in auto thefts, carjackings and shootings the last two years.
"One of their members was knifed and killed at Harding High School," Fletcher said.
The sheriff said the most unusual and troubling part of the Maple Grove incident is seven of the guns recovered had what's known as a "switch" or "auto sear," which allows them to fire fully automatic. Possession of a switch is a state and federal offense.
"An extended magazine of 33 rounds, which many of these guns had extended magazines, can be fired in two seconds or less," he explained.
The 17-year-old fraud suspect was arrested. At the time, he was out on bail for previous credit card fraud from August. He's been booked in the juvenile detention center on the new credit card fraud charge and for violating the conditions of his release.
More party attendees could be charged if authorities can match fingerprints or DNA on the guns. Fletcher believes the weapons were involved in other recent crimes, including a shooting at a St. Paul cemetery.
St. Paul police are working hard to find answers for the friends and family of those affected by the shooting at the cemetery, and those answers, as well as firearm testing, take time. It is an open and active investigation.
"There were 130 casings found at the Oakland Cemetery shooting. We believe these guns were probably used in that shooting," Fletcher said.
The crime is also further proof to Fletcher that suspects from the cities are bringing their parties and illegal activities to the suburbs in jurisdictions where they’re not known to law enforcement.
He encouraged citizens to call 911 when they see something suspicious in their neighborhoods.
"There was a citizen that saw [the 17-year-old] breaking into the car that started this whole cycle for us. So, the good news is if citizens call when they see things suspicious, we never know where that case is going go, and in this case, it went to 11 guns," Fletcher said.
In a statement, Airbnb said, "Unauthorized and disruptive parties are banned on Airbnb, and our Safety team has removed the booking guest from the platform. We are supporting our Host, including through AirCover, and we stand ready to assist the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office as they investigate."

From Northeast Indiana Public Radio/WBOI 89.1, comes this story about a Fort Wayne school play that got canceled, then revived when students and parents went ahead with plans to do it anyway:
“Carroll High School students announce independent production of canceled play” by Ella Abbott.
Fear and apprehension over the school’s choice to produce of Marian: The True Tale of Robinhood (in which Maid Marian, as she’s usually referred to, is actually Robinhood) as the spring play led to its being yanked by the school board.
“’Originally when the play was canceled, we weren’t necessarily sure what was going to happen next,’ [said senior cast member Meadowe Freeman] ‘I mean, we always talked about “well, what if we just put it on anyway?” But we weren’t really sure about the logistics or what could happen with that.’
Not long after, some students connected with Fort Wayne Pride, the organization that puts on Pride events for the LGBTQ community, and began planning to put the play on independently.
