Some weeks ago I‘ve announced to post some reviews of my working cameras. So view this as the first of these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my „Fujuca Zoom 8 Deluxe“
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It‘s a fully electric double-eight film camera. So it films two lanes (into both directions) of 8mm frames onto a 16mm film. This used to be the standard way of amateur filming from it‘s invention by Eastman Kodak in the early 1930‘s until the introduction of Super8 cartridges in 1965.
This exemplary was exported out of japan in 1964, so it‘s a pretty late model with a lot of features, like zoom, fades, „electric eye“ automatic exposure (which doesn‘t work any more because there are no more 2,4V mercury batteries around anymore 😬).
I got it in it‘s original leather bag (which is soooo stylish 🤩🤩), it‘s original users manual and the export confirmation from 1964. And it basically still works which is just so cool.

The Last of Us Joel Miller Character Study S1E1: Joel's Drawer(s)
His literal drawer(s).
I changed the shadows to try to make out what he keeps in this top drawer and to the best of my eyes:
Tumblr media
A green CD case. I have a green CD case just like this I keep DVDs in. Twins with Joel!
Sunglasses or eyeglasses case, which, come on Craig Mazin, we couldn't get even one shot of Joel in sunglasses? Have you never watched Narcos? Pedro looks divine in sunnies. Have you never watched We Can Be Heroes? Pedro looks divine in eyeglasses. Petition for more Pedro roles who canon wear glasses, please. Anyway...
Some sort of leather case/dopp kit style bag. Wrong shape for CDs, and I don't remember ever seeing a cassette holder like this. And that would be unlikely in 2003. Perhaps a keepsake box? It's well-worn around the edges and looks older, so whatever it is, it's important to Joel.
Random paper, maybe business cards or phone numbers?
And of course, money
Tumblr media
6. What looks like a checkbook cover, which were def still in heavy use in 2003
7. The checkbook is resting on a darker object that I would guess is an address book. These were still very common in 2003 as we were making the transition from paper books to phone contact lists. I still had a contact book because at that time if you changed your phone, you could not export/import/sync contacts, so w had a master list. (I still have mine I think, but I don't update it anymore.)
8. The yellow plastic device looks like a stud-finder I used to own, which would not surprise me and would match the construction ephemera we saw on the desk. But, perhaps someone else knows what this is?
9. The white trim looks like the top of a catch-call basket and I can't figure out what the orange loop is. Not a headband. Maybe a kind of strap?
10. There looks to be some metal pieces inside the basket, and a metal device outside of the basket against the back drawer wall. It almost looks like an older pencil sharpener, but other than that, I can't guess. Anyone else have an idea?
Tumblr media
11. It looks like a roll of Smarties candy under the stud-finder(?). I love the idea of Joel stashing candy in his drawer.
I love that the brown leather case and checkbook cover are classic, simple yet elegant in leather and very practical, and the brown leather case looks especially loved. I wonder what he keeps in there?
All together, this drawer is functional, relatively neat, and obviously he is not worried about Sarah borrowing money or seeing these possessions. Maybe he even leaves the candy for her, knowing she'll be in the drawer at times. Cutest dad ever.

Another piece of the big upcoming Evangelite Fashions article, this time featuring information about two lower-class citizens.
Lore under cut:
WIDOWED PEASANT
Location: Eastwalk
Her husband died, leaving her widowed with their young children. Widowed and divorced women face much difficulty in Evangeline Kingdom, for they are considered undesirable to all but the most desperate men. Worse yet, women are viewed only as homemakers and mothers in this culture, so most employers will not hire them. When they do manage to get hired, they receive less than half of a man’s wages for the same amount of work. This Widowed Peasant is a troll, who are considered the lowliest of commoners in Evangelite society, fit only for soldiering and sanitation work. With so much working against her, she could only find employment as a street-cleaner, and her clothes are a testament to her poverty.
She wears a faded red dress and a shawl that was nicer in its heyday, but is now dull and stretched-out. Her pants are tattered, but she cannot afford to replace them. She also cannot afford shoes, which are expensive anyway, but troll shoes even more so because of their much larger size. Until she saves up the money for new ones, she walks barefoot upon the littered streets she spends all day sweeping. Her hair is unwashed and in need of a trim. She wears it loose to signal that she’s seeking a man–any man–to marry.
FARMER
Location: Greenhearst
Food is Evangeline Kingdom’s most profitable export, so many of its citizens own–or work for–farms. Farmers with large plots of land can make a lot of money, but those with smaller plots and worse soil quality must make do with meager profits. They work very hard for very little money, but they don’t typically need much money anyway, as their livelihood allows them to be mostly self-sufficient. They do not live luxurious lives, but between their crops and animals, they usually have enough resources to get by.
This roshavan farmer makes use of his four arms to get work done faster than most. But these extra limbs also mean his shirts are more expensive, so he does not rush out to buy a new one every time it gets a tear. Instead, his wife mends it for him and he squeezes yet another year out of it. The same principle applies to his pants, which are old, worn, and covered in patches. His boots and satchel are both made from cowhide, which he procured from his own farm. He trades this raw leather to the town’s cobblers and leatherworkers for discounts on shoes and bags. He did not spend a coin on his hat, for it was woven from straw by his crafty wife. It helps keep him shaded while he works his fields. She also cuts his hair for him, keeping it short for practicality, and he has grown a mustache to signal to other women that he is already happily married.
Wealthier citizens look down upon his patches, muddy boots, and home-crafted garb. The Farmer may not win any fashion shows, but then again, that is why he is in the field and not on the catwalk.

June 23 - Tapei -> Yilan - Air raid drill, Clog museum, Boba, Hotel hot spring
Today was our last morning in Taipei. I woke up and wrote my independent excursion reflection at a nearby Starbucks. Afterward, I still had plenty of time, so I met up with some of the guys on the trip and got some scallion pancakes with egg and some pork buns from nearby restaurants, which were absolutely delicious. Then, there wasn’t much time till we departed from the hotel.
Once on the bus and onto the freeway, we soon received notifications about the air raid drill. The drill happens once a year, and unless you are on the highway (which we were), you are required by law to stop and follow police instructions (either stay in place or go to the nearby shelter). Unfortunately, we didn’t hear any sirens or see anything besides the notifications on our phones. Our tour guide, Peter, sent us this article if you want to read more about it: https://focustaiwan.tw/society/202407210012.
Once in Yilan, we stopped at a wooden clog museum. This museum was fun. First, we tried a massage clog, which was just a clog with large wooden grooves where your foot goes. It really wasn’t comfortable. Then we tried clogs inclined upwards so your toes point to the sky. These were for stretching your calves, so we put those on and followed a stretching routine by the guide. Finally, we designed our own leather clog keychain! I put a monkey on mine because that’s my Chinese zodiac and my initials (see picture below).
Next, we went to Kili Bay and made our own Pearl Milk Tea. First, we dipped the tea bag in hot water 80 times, mixed in the cream powder, shook it with ice, mixed in the syrup, and finally poured it over the boba tapioca bubbles. It was delicious, and we even got to keep the cool glass mugs. At the gift shop, I bought some Taiwanese milk tea packets and instant tapioca so my family can try them at home!
Finally, we went to the hotel and checked in. This hotel was a spa hotel, and they had hot springs in the back. There were cold springs (60 degrees Fahrenheit) that were like ice baths, some hot springs that went up to 110 degrees, and even a sauna. It was super relaxing and a great break.
Tomorrow, a typhoon will hit, and our activities have been canceled. We went to 711, grabbed a few instant ramen and water, and will be ready to eat during the typhoon!
Academic Reflection
As many people know, boba tea is one of the most famous products invented in and exported from Taiwan. Today, we made the milk tea and added it to the tapioca pearls, which was a fantastic experience. The readings, however, have made me appreciate that experience more. Boba tea isn’t as old as I thought, as it was first made four decades ago in one of two tea houses (Chun Shui Tang in the central city of Taichung or Hanlin Tea Room in southern Tainan). They both believe that they were the ones who invented it in 1986. Learning how it is made was exciting and made me appreciate it. The pearls are made from starches, brown sugar, and water. When rolled together and boiled, that’s what makes them gummy, chewy, and glossy. Overall, learning about the invention of the famous milk tea, how the tapioca is made, and experiencing the tea itself made me appreciate it much more.
One other super exciting thing I learned today wasn’t from any activities but from traveling from Taipei to Yilan. There were tons of tunnel systems through the mountains that we went through on our bus ride. During the travel, we were taught that building that tunnel freeway system took about 2.8 billion dollars. It was complicated to build with the amount of volcanic activity and water pockets. Apparently, a giant tunnel drill is still underwater in the mountain. Overall, the building of that system made a 2.5-hour drive around the mountains into a 45-minute drive from Taipei to Yilan. I find it interesting how critical highways are and how challenging and expensive building them can be.

GIDEONS HAMMER PROP-
I'm sad that Tumblr will only allow me 10 images 🥲
I started this project in early December 2023, and then had to hold off on parts because of snow (I don't have a garage or shop that is well ventilated so I do everything outside lol). I finished the Hammer completely on May 21st, 2024.
But here are some progress shots!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So a quick jog thru for these pictures:
1: I found a file for the Skyrim hammer for attaching to a mop head, so I downloaded it to print on my 3D printer. I sacrificed a spirit Halloween scythe for the pole.
2: I soldered any seams on the hammer for durability sake. Melting the plastic together helps it maintain form a bit better than just gluing or together. I prepared and sanded bondo over the seams and hammer details after this. It was cold outside and I don't have a mouse sander so ya girl had some *sore arms* haha.
3: I found and adjusted files for hammer details. The rings and pomel were designed by someone else for the Skyrim hammer but I brought them into TinkerCAD and used basic shapes to get rid of the specific detailing, giving myself a blank slate. I also typed the kanji into Adobe Dimension, esported it as a 3D Object and printed the parts out to glue to the hammer later.
4: I glued all of the details parts in place.
5: after ensuring everything was set the way I wanted, I sprayed a couple of layers of plastidip over the entire hammer.
6: on the next nice day with no snow I brought the hammer outside, used Rust-Oleum primer and then spray painted the entire hammer black.
7 and 8: I needed an asthetically pleasing but practical way to carry the hammer through a convention, so in May I took one of the ring files and made a hookable loop, exported the file, printed it and then soldered it around the pole at certain points. To hold the rings somewhat in place but allow for movement, I took some black elastic I had sitting around from another project and used 'Liquid Nails' to adhere the straps on either side of the ring. I made sure to was going to sit in the right place on my back before gluing things down. The strap is just a replacement laptop bag leather strap. I wanted it to be able to go across my body.
9: Painted final details!
10: Brought the hammer to Con :3 the picture shows the size really well for scale. It's fairly lightweight. I can swing it within reason but cannot actually hit anything with it or else it'll break. Haha 😆

Winter Care for Leather Shoes, Boots, and Bags
Afterlife is then and downtime is just around the corner. That means it's time to make sure your leather shoes, thrills, and bags are defended. Flexible, strong, functional, and ornamental, leather is one of the most protean accoutrements around. But it isn't imperishable. As experts in leather care, we ’d like to offer you the following ideas that help cover and watch for your leather.
Be sure your shoes or thrills fit duly. Have a cobbler put a thin, defensive sole on the bottoms. This helps help redundant wear and tear.
Maintain your thrills, shoes, and leather bags regularly, especially during downtime rainfall. Doctor and moisturize leather regularly so it withstands normal wear and tear and gash. A good leather conditioner or oil painting works best.
Encounter your leather pieces between cleaning/ moisturizing. An affordable plastic shoe encounter is perfect for removing dried slush or dirt. Be sure to brush before moisturizing your leather. Invest in a good charge and shoe teetotaler that will fully dry your footwear overnight. Use the teetotaler on your gloves, headdresses, and scarves that get wet in wintry rainfall as well.
Leather needs to breathe. Store your thrills and shoes in the cardboard boxes they came by. These allow air to circulate but keep them dust free andclean. However, drill air holes so that the leather can breathe, If you store your shoes and thrills in plastic lockers. Do n’t hang your leather bags. Hanging puts stress and wear on the shoulderstraps. However, store it upright in a cloth dust bag, If your bag is stiff andstructured. However, lay it on its side in a dust bag, If it's flexible.
Use cloth dust bags for shoes if the boxes have faded. Eventually, find a good shoe repairperson. A good cobbler will tell you when you can fix your shoes( like having themre-soled) and when it’s time to replace them. They can also tell you how to make your shoes last longer. Indeed little changes like the way you walk can help extend the life of your shoes.
At faculty Cleansers, our professionals and expert cobblers in Studio City and Burbank will help keep your leather accessories clean and in good form.

Continued from here for @tvstarkuma!
Sonia nodded, following his lead to the tills. Purchasing items herself was a new thrill she'd come to enjoy since arriving in Japan: the thought of the Princess stepping into a shop at home, beyond some sort of ceremony or official reason, was unfathomable. But here, especially in a town so remote from the bigger, busier cities, no one looked twice at the fact she had a wallet with actual cash in it. No, it was likely her blonde hair that would garner stares. But at present, maybe it wasn't so odd: after all, the boy in the department store had golden hair too.
Unfortunately, that might have been all they had in common: her questions seemed to perplex him. Of course, she had to remember that: most teenagers didn't need to concern themselves with politics, or economics, or public policy. In fact, most teenagers didn't spend the majority of their time harnessing their prowess in a single skill or discipline, either. Even though she'd been thrilled to attend a 'normal school,' Hope's Peak was anything but normal. Case in point: allowing the Ultimate Princess to miss a week of classes in order to carry out official duties.
Tumblr media
"Not quite like a doctor's appointment," She admitted with a pained smile. The poking and prodding that a doctor's appointment had would still be present, except in the form of prodding her conscience and cheerful nature. By compliments and questions that were phrased one way but had an entirely different meaning: that was the nature of being royal, especially when someone wanted something from you. "Perhaps more like a meeting over dinner. Which is a bit unfortunate: I passed what looked to be some lovely restaurants along the way as I walked here. I imagine they're owned by families, several generations over. I quite like experiencing places like that."
As she waited for him to ring up her purchases, Sonia reached into her quilted leather bag and retrieved a coordinating wallet, pulling out a series of yen bills that would cover the sale. "That's good, then: a variety of ages and backgrounds working together," She gave him a real smile this time. "I imagine you would be able to learn quite a lot from one another, as long as there are enough members of staff to keep the business running smoothly." Not that she had any experience running a business of her own, but she'd accompanied her parents on enough visits to various shops, factories, and farms in Novoselic and listened to what the owners had to say about them. Without a trained and enthusiastic staff, their goods might have never succeeded in their home country, much less be used in international export or, if truly lucky, given a Royal Seal.
Sonia paused her train of thought, eyebrows raising in interest as she carefully set the bills on the plastic tray provided to collect them. "You have only resided here for a year?" She half-asked, half-repeated. "Where did you come from before, then?" If it wasn't too much of a personal question, anyway. But it was an indirect way to see if he was from her part of the world or not.
