I squeezed in another creation for #scbwiartober this evening with this #bonfire that I cut out from my happy meal wrappers and a few of the #collagepapers I painted this this week. I watched #theresomeoneinsideyourhouse on @netflix while I cut and pasted. I had listened to the #audiobook by #stephanieperkins on a road trip a few years ago and was excited to see it on screen only to be disappointed. It wasn’t nearly as suspenseful as the book which really had you wondering who the hell was in Makani’s house by the time the reveal happens at the end. The movie had no suspense and felt very underwhelming by the end. The next #collagemaster I’m studying is #ericcarle. I watched a few videos of Mr. Carle painting papers and building his characters. I was so fascinated, I could have watched him create all day. He makes it looks so easy, but it’s really not. I’ve been going crazy #painting tissue paper. I didn’t try to find out the kind of tissue paper Mr. Carle used. I just went with the gift wrap kind I had handy already. What a pain in the butt! I ended up doing a mixture of tissue paper and found paper because cutting tiny pieces of painted tissue paper also sucks. Though again I didn’t use a razor to cut shapes like he did, I used scissors, but still tiny pieces of tissue paper 🤬🤬🤬🤬 I now understand why his character pieces were larger than they appear in the books. I love my little #grouchyladybug though. I do like the idea of tissue paper and how the colors can change with layering. Still working my way through my #mastersstudies of #collageartists This is another one done in the style of @clover_robin I learned a few things with this one - I should’ve spaced the flowers out more, to add details before gluing it all down, and to be careful with pieces painted with cheap chalky paint cause the color rubs off on everything. I painted some tissue paper yesterday so I can try out Eric Carle next. Last night in class @vanessabrantleynewton encouraged us to learn from the #collageartists that inspire us. So since I have class all day, I thought I would let my brain play this morning and learn from an Artist Vanessa introduced me to a year ago @clover_robin I could look at her #illustrations all day. I have her #book #cutpaperpictures and used it today to create these #forgetmenotflowers. I made the blue and green #collagepapers. The yellow paper I found on a walk and the white and black are from #paperscraps. Now it’s time to get busy. I’m excited for #illustratingwithcollage class tonight. We have been working on backgrounds and these are the two I did along with @vanessabrantleynewton in the modules. Day 35/100 #the100dayproject I had hoped to finish this layout today, but my CFS flared up today and my fatigue dragged me under. Hopefully I can finish up the details tomorrow, but it has been an interesting process to create a #collageillustration like the exercise from my #watercolorclass on @domestika The instructor used frogs in her example, so I thought I would too. Frogs are oddly shaped creatures and not easy to draw let alone cut into pieces and reassemble again so I’m proud that I have gotten this far even if it isn’t perfect.
