Organic Lawn Topsoil in Your Garden to Enrich Productivity and Plant Growth!
Gardeners and landscapers can make a wise investment by spreading lawn topsoil to increase the condition of their soil. High-quality gardening topsoil usually contains a blend of soil particles and different organic materials, typically high in nutrients and necessary for strong plant growth.
In areas where the soil is not uniformly flat, builders frequently purchase crushed concrete and interlocking concrete blocks to construct different landscape features like driveways and pathways.
Why is Top Soil Application Good for Plant Growth in Gardens?
Builders or property owners often apply a layer of topsoil from reliable sources, to enhance the nutrients where the terrain and soil conditions differ. This will improve drainage, retain moisture better, and provide a healthier growing medium for plants.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, when anyone uses organic topsoil from trusted suppliers it promotes plant growth by facilitating the development of a more robust root system through the organic topsoil; it also inhibits soil erosion and compaction.
Applying natural topsoil is an economical and effective way to revitalise garden beds and lawns, and it offers long-term benefits for plant vitality and soil health.
Meanwhile, to create a lusher, more vibrant garden with fresh air, and improve the environment in their living area, people can use fine quality topsoil from reputable recycling companies that sell a variety of gardening and landscaping supplies.
Additionally, filling the garden with topsoil is a cheap and easy method of preventing soil erosion and water damage in low-lying areas. These well-known suppliers specialise in the collection, processing, and sale of recycled materials at a significantly lower cost to builders than when utilising conventional building materials.
In addition, they provide precisely ground and crushed building debris and concrete to make durable driveways, parking lots, walkways, and sub-base material for roads, trench backfilling, void filling, stabilising slopes, shorelines, or drainage channels at a reasonable price.
Therefore, anyone who needs to create driveways, pathways, or lush foliage in their prime can purchase these suppliers to meet their needs.

Large positive ecological changes of small urban greening actions
(Published August 21st 2023 by: Luis Mata, Amy K. Hahs, Estibaliz Palma, Anna Backstrom, Nikolas Johnston, Tyler King, Ashley R. Olson, Christina Renowden, Tessa R. Smith, Blythe Vogel, Samantha Ward)

This study shows how even small greening actions in urban environments can have a big impact on insects! The researchers chose a site next to a major road and many tall buildings in Melbourne, Australia. At the start of the project it was just a few trees and lawn. 80% of the site was substantially transformed through weeding, the addition of new topsoil, soil de-compaction and fertilization, organic mulching and the addition of 12 indigenous plant species. They conducted 14 insect surveys across 4 years. After only 1 year, the 12 plant species that were planted during the greening actions supported an estimated 4.9 times more insect species! By Year 3, the nine remaining plant species supported an estimated 7.3 times more insect species!

for @domaystic day 6: under the same umbrella
Clover and Fescue | Hob/Dream | 900 words | G
Rain fell heavily in the garden, loud on the crown of the apple tree and the surface of the pond, and softer on the lawn and garden beds. New plants, perennials fresh from the soil and annuals from the nursery, glistened with beaded moisture that pooled and dripped into topsoil and compost, saturating the ground. Crocuses and daffodils bounced and sprang under the weight of the rainfall, and the grass danced as though stirred by an army of inch-high men, a Birnam Wood of clover and fescue marching on the cobble path. It was nearly too early to see, the murky light of dawn and dark clouds dampening the view, but everything was the vibrant green that only came from a spring storm.
Dream, utterly still and soaked to the bone, sat in the midst of it on the garden bench.
His dark hair was plastered to his neck, though still stood up in extravagant cowlicks in the back where he'd slept on it. His t-shirt (technically Hob's) was translucent and clinging to his shoulders, in a way that would be distracting in any other circumstance, and he had his bare feet planted in the grass. Air plumed from his nose in grey clouds of mist in time with the slow expansion and contraction of his ribcage.
"You're going to catch your death out here, love."
Hob did his best to drape the wool blanket he held around Dream's shoulders while juggling the handle of his umbrella, dripping a great deal of water on his own head in the process. When he finally had both blanket and umbrella mostly under control, he settled beside Dream on the bench, umbrella held between them to attempt to keep the rain off them both.
Dream remained silent, the only acknowledgement of Hob's presence being a subtle lean against his shoulder. From this angle, Hob could see the way rain had gathered in his eyelashes, darkened and clumping like he'd been crying.
He hadn't been, at least not recently. Dream was not one for an inconspicuous cry—his eyes went red-rimmed at the barest provocation, and retirement had made him susceptible to blotchy cheeks and congestion as well. His nose and cheeks were pink with chill now, but his eyes were clear, his breathing even. And Hob liked to think he had developed a good sense of Dream's expressions by now—he did not seem sorrowful so much as pensive, lost in thought and perhaps not fully emerged from the stillness of sleep.
They sat together in silence for a while, gazing out into the garden as the sun rose behind the clouds.
Eventually, the weight of the umbrella began to wear on Hob (even being in permanent fighting trim, fatigue was inescapable), and he broke the quiet as softly as he could.
"What's on your mind, my friend?"
A long pause followed, and for a moment, he thought Dream would not answer, that they would remain blanketed in only the shushing sound of rain until his arm fell clean off.
"The rain," Dream finally said. His voice was startlingly clear, steady, for so early in the morning.
Hob only nodded. He was learning that sometimes all it took to get Dream to open up was the space for him to speak. So he waited. He made space.
"In the Dreaming, the rain was always part of some larger emotional overture." Dream frowned. "It was part of me. When I looked upon it, it was like looking upon ones own tears in the mirror. I came out here this morning because I wanted to experience it as it is, removed from the trappings of my own emotions. As the waking world does. But it still feels curiously melancholy."
Hob tried to imagine what it would be like to have the very air around him bend to his emotions, every thunderstorm and ray of sunshine a well-timed bit of atmospheric storytelling. He thought about what it would be like, if he had spent all of his lowest moments surrounded by the chill and damp of the rain, could never be pulled from dark thoughts by cheerful sunshine on his skin. But then, that was just it, wasn't it?
Hob looked at Dream earnestly.
"Tell me, love, how were you feeling when the rain began last night?"
"I… do not know. I was asleep. The rain was there when I woke."
"Okay," Hob said, soft as the rain. "Do you think perhaps that it might not be you who has summoned the rain, then, but the rain that weighs on your heart?"
Dream seemed loath to agree, but he nodded.
Hob placed his free hand on Dream's knee, awkward though it was, and gave it a squeeze.
"Probably experiencing it just right, then. Plenty of people get a bit sad when it rains. Though you don't have to."
Dream, face cast in the red light filtering through the umbrella, looked at Hob like he'd nonchalantly offered to slay several dragons on his behalf.
Hob stood and offered a hand to Dream.
"Why don't we go find some dry clothes, and I can show you the wonders of staying in on a rainy day?"

Landscaping Dump Truck
In S3E36 “Dirt”, the action focuses around a load of topsoil that Dad has had delivered to the Heeler’s yard so he can top-dress the lawn.
Tumblr media
The soil is delivered by a landscaping dump truck.
The cab-over-engine design points towards this being an Isuzu or Hino model.
Tumblr media
This kind of truck fills the niche between a large conventional dump truck and a pick-up truck, with a bed designed to carry loads of soil or mulch, or even equipment like lawnmowers, etc. while being relatively fuel-efficient.
These trucks don’t need massive payload capacities like a dump truck.

some people are queer in the same way that my mother is someone who loves nature. which is to say: spending all their time cultivating neatness, orderlieness, pulling weeds and amending topsoil, mowing lawns and spraying weed killers. My mother derides weeds and bemoans the quality of her topsoil in the same breath, with no recognition that the weeds she hates bring life to the soil that won't grow anything. She talks about plans for a pollinator garden among her vegetable beds, and kills all the grass and weeds around them. There is no recognition of the relationships, the cycles, the chaos of nature.
Transmeds, LGB alliances, exclusionists, respectibility politickers, they all treat the queer community like a garden and a lawn; and the fags and dykes and crossdressers and transsexuals and whoever else using whatever other words and being queer in whatever ways they disagree with like weeds that must be pulled. And then they bemoan the lack of depth and flavor in the queer community.

Inverse: Even Just a Little of This 1 Overlooked Activity Can Reduce Depression
Spring comes with many little rituals and urges: A deep clean, the shelving of winter jackets, a desire for a salad instead of soup — and an urgent, gnawing need to buy and cultivate as many plants as possible (garden optional). Nature is aligned: The stretch of time right before summer is also the moment when bright, flashy flowers start to bloom and suddenly your lawn needs to be cut. It’s a moment for impulse buying tomato plants, lugging bags of topsoil, and investing in some fresh gardening gloves. Fortunately, this particular ritual does more than beautify our spaces: Gardening has a powerful effect on our mental health.
Consider this: In the first months of the Covid-19 lockdowns, some studies suggest people used their gardens and outdoor spaces 50 to 82 percent more than they did before the lockdown. In one 2022 study, researchers quote a participant who hits on the truth that gardening relieves stress:
“You can’t worry when you are engrossed in weeding, building rock walls, and installing stone paths, or planning and planting a garden,” the participant explained. “Having your hands in the earth connects you directly to nature, which is a welcome companion in my life.”
The findings jibe with a mountain of evidence showing interacting with nature — taking a walk, for example — holds massive health benefits. But gardening is distinct in that it's an active engagement with green spaces. In turn, it offers unique perks. Any garden, big or small, can aid your mental health, but there are certain elements you can include that can enhance the benefits and create a fulfilling space scientifically shown to boost your brain.
Why gardening is good for your brain
What I’m about to state might seem obvious, but science backs it up: Being in nature is good for us. A large body of research shows that time spent in natural settings provides physical and psychological benefits, including (but not limited to) feeling happier, more relaxed, more focused, less anxious, and less fatigued.
Studies on gardening also support the link between enjoying green spaces and better mental health. Gardening can reduce depression and anxiety; it can also improve emotional well-being.
For example, in the study that examined the mental health impact of gardening during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, people who gardened were less anxious. The paper’s senior author, Rachel Rosenberg Goldstein, says the study also found a connection between spending more time outdoors on weekdays and decreased anxiety scores.
“People who listed exercise as their motivation for gardening have less anxiety, suggesting that the physical activity involved in gardening might impact mental health,” explains Goldstein, who is an assistant professor at the University of Maryland. She is also leading a project examining how gardening can address mental health challenges and food insecurity.
Naomi Sachs, an assistant professor at the University of Maryland and the founding director of the nonprofit Therapeutic Landscapes Network, adds that studies suggest “green exercise” — exercise performed in nature — even “benefits people more than the equivalent amount of exercise indoors.”
How to garden for your mental health
Gardening is good but gardening with others can be even better. Getty Images
Gardening is demonstrably helpful for the mind and body, and there are certain actions that can enhance the experience. These include:
Gardening with others
In a recent study published in the journal The Lancet Planetary Health, researchers found that first-time gardeners found their stress and anxiety lessened after they started tending a plot in a community garden. These new gardeners also got more physical activity than the comparison group, which suggests this outdoor work could play an important role in preventing disease.
Jill Litt is the paper’s senior author and a professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She says that it's possible that the social support in the community garden amplifies the general benefits of gardening.
“This social support can activate a series of social processes such as shared learning, reciprocity, and relatedness,” explains Litt. “All these processes tap into intrinsic motivation, which is important for behavior changes that support health and well-being.”
Creating a garden that activates the senses
While what you can grow often depends on where you live, It can be helpful to “have a variety of positive sensory engagement plants — plants that engage all the senses throughout the entire year,” says Sachs.
“For example, lavender is beautiful to look at and smells lovely, and can even taste good when used in baking,” explains Sachs. “It’s also great for pollinators.”
She also recommends serviceberry trees, which come in different varieties that are native to various regions. They are visually striking in different ways throughout the year — in spring they bloom, in fall they often turn orange-red — and their summer berries are edible. They also provide a great habitat for animals.
“The aesthetic experience of gardening is crucial for awakening the senses and creating a sense of wonder,” says Litt.
Other ways of engaging the senses include getting your hands dirty, planting colorful flowers, and making the space inviting to birds — research also suggests the sound of birdsong benefits the brain.
Incorporating other joyful elements
Your garden doesn’t need to be limited to plants and flowers. You can also make space for other activities that destress you.
“Maybe it’s a space for yoga and a separate space for kids or dogs to run around,” Sachs says. “Maybe it’s a space for entertaining, or a hammock for reading a book or taking a nap.”
Litt describes spaces that are hospital to company as “interactional spaces” — areas where people can come together, meditate, and more. You can make way for these sorts of spaces by adding shade and walking paths, she explains.
“These spaces can amplify the social experience by activating social support, promoting shared learning, and fostering friendships,” Litt says.

Expert Sprinkler Repair Services | S&L Sprinkler Repair
A lush, vibrant lawn is a captivating sight that can enhance the beauty of any home. Achieving and maintaining such a lawn requires the implementation of proper irrigation techniques and thoughtful landscaping. At Sands Sprinkler Repair, we understand the significance of a healthy lawn, and we are dedicated to providing exceptional sprinkler system services to help you achieve your dream yard. In this blog post, we will explore various aspects of lawn irrigation, the contribution of landscaping to a healthier lawn, the benefits of drip irrigation, and the importance of drainage systems. So, let's delve into the details!
Lawn Irrigation:
Lawn irrigation is a process that involves the controlled supply of water to your lawn to ensure it receives adequate moisture for healthy plant growth. An efficient and well-designed sprinkler system is crucial for the uniform distribution of water across your lawn, preventing issues such as overwatering or underwatering. Our team of experts at Sand Sprinkler Repair possesses the knowledge and experience to assess the specific needs of your lawn and install a customized sprinkler system that will keep your lawn well-hydrated and flourishing.
Landscaping and a Healthier Lawn:
Landscaping plays a vital role in nurturing a healthy lawn. Thoughtful landscaping practices contribute to enhanced drainage, weed control, and improved soil health. Proper grading of landscapes facilitates effective water drainage, preventing waterlogged soil and the potential for root rot. Strategic placement of plants, shrubs, and the application of mulch inhibit weed growth, reducing competition for essential nutrients and moisture. Landscaping practices such as aeration, soil amendments, and the use of organic mulch promote healthier soil conditions, supporting robust root development and optimal nutrient absorption.
Drip Irrigation and Its Benefits:
Drip irrigation is a highly efficient method of watering that delivers water directly to the roots of plants through a network of tubes and emitters. This irrigation technique offers numerous benefits, including water conservation, weed reduction, and improved plant health. By precisely delivering water to the areas where it is needed, drip irrigation minimizes water wastage through evaporation and runoff. Targeting water to the root zone of plants limits water exposure to weed seeds, effectively minimizing weed growth. Additionally, drip irrigation ensures a consistent and controlled water supply, preventing overwatering and reducing the risk of diseases caused by moisture-related issues.
The Importance of Drainage Systems:
Adequate drainage is essential for maintaining a healthy lawn. A well-designed drainage system prevents waterlogging, soil erosion, and minimizes the risks of diseases and pests. Excessive water accumulation can suffocate grass roots, leading to poor growth and yellowing. Proper drainage ensures efficient water drainage, preventing water logging issues. It also prevents soil erosion, which can result in the loss of topsoil and nutrient depletion, compromising the overall health of your lawn. Moreover, a robust drainage system eliminates stagnant water, reducing the risk of infestations and the spread of diseases.
 Conclusion:
Investing in a high-quality sprinkler system and adopting proper irrigation techniques is a wise decision when it comes to nurturing a healthier and more vibrant lawn. At Sands Sprinkler Repair, we are committed to providing exceptional services and expertise to help you achieve the lawn you've always envisioned. With our customized sprinkler systems, landscaping knowledge, and understanding of the importance of drainage systems, we can assist you in transforming your lawn into a thriving oasis. Enhance Your Garden with Quality Mulch Supplies and Lawn Topsoil
Creating and maintaining a beautiful garden requires the right materials and knowledge. Two essential components for a thriving landscape are quality mulch supplies and lawn topsoil. These elements play a crucial role in promoting plant health, improving soil structure, and enhancing the overall appearance of your garden. Let's explore the benefits and applications of mulch and topsoil for your lawn and garden.
Mulch Supplies: Protect and Nourish Your Plants
Mulch is an invaluable addition to any garden, offering a multitude of benefits. It helps retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, regulate soil temperature, and improve soil fertility as it decomposes. Quality mulch supplies come in various types, including organic options like wood chips, bark, straw, and compost, as well as inorganic choices such as gravel and rubber mulch.
Tumblr media
When selecting mulch supplies, consider the specific needs of your garden plants and the aesthetic you wish to achieve. Organic mulches, for example, not only provide nutrients as they break down but also create a natural, attractive look. Regularly replenishing your mulch ensures continuous protection and nourishment for your plants.
Lawn Topsoil: The Foundation for a Lush Lawn
Topsoil is the uppermost layer of soil, rich in organic matter and nutrients essential for plant growth. For a healthy and vibrant lawn, using quality lawn topsoil is crucial. It improves soil structure, enhances drainage, and provides a fertile environment for grass roots to establish and thrive.
When laying new turf or reseeding an existing lawn, spreading a layer of lawn topsoil can significantly boost germination rates and root development. This nutrient-rich layer supports robust grass growth, leading to a lush, green lawn that enhances your outdoor space.
Combining Mulch and Topsoil for Optimal Results
For the best results, combine mulch and topsoil in your garden maintenance routine. Start by applying a layer of lawn topsoil to nourish and prepare the ground for planting or reseeding. Once your plants or lawn are established, add a layer of mulch to protect the soil and retain moisture. This combination ensures a healthy growing environment and reduces the need for frequent watering and weeding.
In conclusion, investing in quality mulch supplies and lawn topsoil is essential for creating a beautiful and healthy garden. These materials provide the foundation and protection needed for your plants to thrive. By understanding their benefits and proper application, you can transform your outdoor space into a lush, vibrant landscape.

When my OH and I moved into our house it had one of those fake plastic lawns there’s not a chance in hell we could afford to replace with topsoil.
We’ve been there four years now. I’ve grown lots of stuff in raised beds but also made an effort to make it more wildlife-friendly.
All these things shall be overgrown.
Even fake plastic grass.

I know I've said it before, but--that first point, there, about the "A" profile of his soil? Every time I think of it, I am taken aback with genuine awe.
Tumblr media
So this is a picture of the soil horizons. The O profile/O horizon is stuff like fallen leaves, sticks, and so on, which are biodegrading into the A profile. A fair amount of soils might have no O profile at all.
If you are a gardener, the A profile is what you're concerned with most of the time; it's what we also call "topsoil." Your seeds germinate into it, and shallower plants might root into it alone without ever reaching the B profile. Worms and other small delvers live in it. It's what you're amending, what you're testing, what you're tilling, what you're trying to fill up with good microorganisms to work with your plants and provide you with food or flowers or cover.
I see this quote around sometimes, attributed to radioman Paul Harvey: Man — despite his artistic pretensions, his sophistication, and his many accomplishments — owes his existence to a six inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.
Without the topsoil, bluntly, we starve. And there are other problems, in places with a lack of it; without the topsoil, when the rains come, the water strikes hard soil. Hard soil doesn't accept water easily, so instead it pools and runs downhill. That action makes flooding, makes flash floods, makes standing water that carries disease, it contaminates the water table. Cholera is a huge problem in places with a low A profile that receive too much water at once.
We are seeing topsoil depletion across the US. I can't speak for other countries, but the heavy-tilling agricultural habits we've adopted here have obliterated inch after inch of our topsoil; in the 1800s the average depth was fourteen inches! Today it is six. Many suburban lawns have even less. This has knock-on effects we don't even consider on the day-to-day (for instance, there's some suggestion that the lower amounts of various minerals in vegetables and fruits today in comparison with earlier decades might be because of the lower amount of minerals in the soil for the plants to take up into themselves).
And this gentleman took soil that had been that abused and not only returned it to what it had been before the aggressive, destructive European agricultural policy had its way, but trebled that earlier depth.
His land protects the land around it from flooding. His land grows plants less susceptible to disease, because of all the various stressors and pressures those plants aren't confronted with. His land almost certainly has a considerably higher concentration of microorganisms and it would follow that we'd also see greater diversity of macroorganisms thereby.
Honestly, it just takes my breath away.
