L sends Light letters in prison/whatever confinement center he's in. He doesn't get an answer. He figures Light isn't replying because of his hurt pride. And after months, maybe an year, L gathers the courage to go and visit Light in person.

Turns out, Light's been dead a few days into his sentence. Maybe someone killed him, maybe it was a heart attack, maybe Light killed himself. He never got any of L's letters.

And no one told L.

lawlight angst hc (spoilers)

i started reading the death note manga and there's this one panel talking about light's nightmares and i like to headcanon that those nightmares never go away. even when his memories are gone in the yotsuba arc, he's still having nightmares that he doesn't fully understand but he knows it has something to do with him possibly being kira. he always brushes it to the side though and keeps gaslighting himself into believing it's not true. i especially like to headcanon that the night he gets his memories back, the night before he kills L, he has the worst nightmare he's had since the start of all of this and it completely ruins him. like he just wakes up in a sweat and starts sobbing, to the point where he can't even try to deny himself from anything anymore. i also like to think that on this same night, him and L are sharing the same room together despite not being handcuffed anymore. L probably requests it just because his suspicions are up again, and watching light wake up in a complete panic is the last piece of evidence he needs. but instead of acting on this, he just chooses to ignore it. because despite everything, light is his friend. and he would like to die knowing that the night before his passing, he was beside his friend, not his murderer.

♡ 1. i’m drowning; please save me: L looks at Yagami Light and drowns. There is no other way to put it. As the days pass and blend into weeks, L looks at Yagami Light sitting next to him, the harsh lines of his face creased and determined, and he swallows water.

L looks at Yagami Light and he cannot breathe.

great characterization, always makes me very emo, and is probably a pretty major influence on my writing. one shot. 1,817 words.

2. always waiting for you just to cut to the bone: And then, breaking through the pounding in his head he hears what would be the last words out of that wretched man’s lips.

“I love you.”

fic for teh death note drama (2016) canon! title is unfortunately from a t*ylor sw*ft song (/silly) but this fic is so good and sad.

3. Our Bodies, Possessed By Light: L. Lawliet is a gifted photographer who believes he has understood the light and its secrets. Light Yagami is a young, unstable and slightly crooked model. Together, they kill time.

modeling and photography au. make sure to read all teh tags and warnings for this one; there’s nothing gross, but some potentially triggering subjects for some people are in here. multi chapter. 81,218 words.

4. Hearts and Spades: Which would you choose? Love or death? RaitoL, slight AU.

short but sweet piece featuring that classic fanfiction dot net era vibe, an emo-ass playing card metaphor (/pos), and a recounting of l’s death scene that made me sad over him all over again (also /pos). and also light being obnoxious, but it’s death note, so that’s usually a given, lol. one shot. 1,801 words.

5. Not Quite Drowning: Sometimes Light ponders happiness. L/Light

a short lawlight and light character study. i like it a lot, and i don’t usually like light, so that should tell you something about how well i think it’s written! one shot. 424 words.

♡ 6. Water, water, water: In the bath, they forget they’re a detective and a suspect; they remove these identities along with their clothes, layer by layer until there are only the handcuffs left. And them; facing the other in the eerie calmness of their bathroom.

At least, it’s how Light sees it.

i really love this one! make sure to read teh tags, as eating disorders and drugs are mentioned, for example. angst with a happy ending! one shot. 3,504 words.

1. Silver Bells: Silver bells...silver bells...

They’ve made it. Everything is okay now, when they’re dancing in the candlelight.

really, really cute! i recommend it as a palate cleanser to make you feel better after reading a sad one, lol. one shot. 1,255 words.

just a cute little new year’s eve lawlight fireworks show! this one is also from 2009 which is kinda cool to me, haha. i like this author’s descriptive language a lot. one shot. 507 words.

♡ 3. Do Gay Penguins Go to Hell?: Too many New Year snacks bring about a family discussion between L, Raito and their daughter about healthy diet, common sayings and nature of good and evil. And gay penguins, of course. AU

a really darling kid fic, based on teh stupid, homophobic controversy over that adorable kids’ book about teh gay penguin couple. one shot. 3,791 words.

4. A Feeling: It's LxLight fluff! This takes place after Light was confined and lost his memories, chained to L. : D SO YUS. SOME FLUFF FOR YAH D: Hope you leik it :D

very cute “l and light cuddle and kiss” fic, written by a scene kid in 2008, which is extra points with me! one shot. 1,006 words.

DEATH NOTE SPOILERS

It was around 10.pm. Light was outside, on the roof of the building. He had just gotten his memories back of the Death note. Everything had gone as planned. Now all he needed to do was have Misa start the killing’s again, once that happened, Rem would have no choice but to kill L. It was perfect, he should be ecstatic! But…he wasn’t…why wasn’t he happy? L would finally be gone and then, Light could continue his goal of becoming the god of the new world. So why was he so hesitant to go through with it…to kill L… This is what he wanted, right? He wanted L dead, did he not? Light let out a frustrated sigh as thought to himself.

“What the hell is wrong with me?”, he had a neutral face expression despite the anger he had towards himself “I’m so close to getting rid of him! So why can’t I bring myself do it? God Damn-“, Light’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps. He looked behind him to see L walking towards 

“Hey, Light” L spoke as he walked over to Light, standing next to him on the roof. Light watches as L walked over.

“Oh, hey Ryuzaki, what are you doing out here this late?” Light asked as he turned to face L.

“I could as you the same question, Light”, L spoke in his same monotone voice as he looked up at the sky.

“Just trying to clear my head is all, I mean after everything that has happened it’s a bit overwhelming” Light spoke with a small smile on his face. Why was he feeling like this? Why did talking to L make him…. happy?

“Ah yes, I suppose that makes sense” L responded. Silence fell between them before L spoke up once again. “Light… after all of this is over…I want you to join me…you don’t have to, but I find myself enjoying your company…” L looked down as he spoke, his voice and expression as emotionless as always.  Light was shocked but smiled as he spoke.

“I’d like that Ryuzaki, I too enjoy your company.” Light responded without a second thought. Why was he so eager to agree? He didn’t know why but the idea of spending more time with L made him….excited. L was surprised by how quickly Light responded. When he heard Lights response, he looked up to meet his gaze and L smiled at him. His face and voice filled with something more than what it was usually filled with.

“I’m glad, you feel the same way Light” L’s tone of voice had joy in it as he smiled at Light. Light’s heart almost stopped when he saw L smile. A small blush appearing on his face. Why was he feeling like this? He wasn’t gay! Was he? He didn’t know now. Light had always said he was straight and denied it anytime someone asked him if he was gay, but now this is happening he didn’t know what to think. Was he gay? What was going on. Why was he evening developing feelings for L! L is his enemy! Is he even developing feelings for L? What was this feeling, why was it there, did this mean he was gay? Did he seriously fall for the sleep deprived emo twink? Light snapped himself out of it and responded. 

“Y-yeah, I am too...” Light spoke before mentally scolding himself what kind of response was that! L chuckled and nodded before speaking, the smile still on his face.

“Let’s get some sleep it’s getting late” L spoke as he smiled at Light. Light nodded and smiled and started to walk inside, L following behind him. As L followed behind Light, he thought to himself.

“I’m 100% gay for this man” L admitted to himself as he followed the attractive boy. They got to the shared room that they both used since Light didn’t have a room made for him, due to the building was made when him and L were chained together. Light got ready for bed and laid down, L was sitting in his same sitting position as he always sat, Light looked at him still trying to figure out if he’s gay or not, but the more he looks at the dark hired boy…the more obvious the answer became. Sadly, it didn’t matter if he had feelings for L or not…because they could never date. L was Kira’s enemy and needed to be gotten rid of. That was what needed to happen, but Light found himself questioning if he could bring himself to do it. To have L killed. Light’s thought process was yet again interrupted by the dark-haired detective. 

“Light? Are you ok? You seem stressed.” L asked as he looked over at Light who had been staring at him for a while. 

“Yeah, I’m fine Ryuzaki, just need some sleep.” Light spoke as he laid down in the bed getting comfortable, facing away from L. “Goodnight, Ryuzaki.”

“Goodnight, Light.” L spoke softly before looking over at his computer and started to work. Though after a bit it got hard to work when all L could hear where bells….

This Feeling

The "I love you" "it'll pass" scene but make it lawlight

Sorry it's a day late!!! We thought today was day 7 :(

"Our game has come to a draw, hasn’t it?” Light asks, he already knows the answer; he always has, but asking the question made it real. He could no longer hide in the quiet comfort of inner doubt that hung in the place of a solidified answer. The flimsy moment of hopeful delusion is over. This is real. This is it. There are no more moves to make. No checkmate to be found. Just two men, sitting on a bench, coming to terms with the reality that their time together is over.

They sit in silence, the question weighing heavily in the air, seeming to crush them both as neither says another word. Seconds go by and feel like years. Water no longer drips from the roof of the bus stop station, and the buzzing neon lights of the route schedule sign seem to pause, leaving the two in the hollow silence of the wind.

“Yeah, it has.” L breathes, wishing the wind could take the sound of his response away in its path and leave them in the peace of their fantasy. But it didn’t. It never seems to.

The answer could change nothing about their knowledge. They both knew it was over. The situation, however, was irreparably changed.

The air sparked with the fate of the moment, with the long pent up confession that would follow the response that doomed them both to reality.

“Do you know what?” Words softly break the quiet moment. Light hesitates to continue, turning to face his partner. “The worst part of all this… the worst part is that I love you. God, I hate it, but I love you.” He knows that he’s wrong, that his love is wrong, that he should be ashamed, but he can’t look away from him. He can’t turn away for fear that if he turned back, his love would be gone to him forever.

He’s not supposed to love the man who is meant to catch him and condemn him for his actions. His love should be reserved for someone who agrees with him, who melds with his opinions and actions, but he can’t choose who to love no matter how hard he tries. He tried to love her, but he couldn’t. Lord knows he tried, and he’s afraid that the lord knows about this too.

L pauses for a moment. He doesn’t know what to say. He should, he knows he should. He’s always so prepared, always one step ahead, always ready for anything. Anything but love. He moves to try to speak, to say something, to find one more move in this impossible draw, but he’s interrupted before he can even begin.

“No, L. Please, just let that sit for a minute.” He knows if he doesn’t say this all now, it’ll be too late. This is his one chance. Not for a happy ending, he knows not to hope for that, but to at least tell someone of his love, to let it be out there, to let it be real.

“I love you.” The two detectives sit in silence as the wind sings in an air of fate. It sings of would-been’s and will-be’s. It sings of love and loss and the way the two dance as an inseparable pair.

The silence is too full for another word, so the two just sit and listen to the water drip, and the lights buzz, and the wind sing. Each sound rings with the words ‘I love you”.

When the silence is quiet again, and the echo of the words dies down, L turns to Light.

“It’ll pass.” Light can only laugh.

He takes Light’s hand in his, mourning a love never to be lived, and intertwining their fingers. Their wind chilled fingers melds into one mass through the field of burning tears in their eyes, and there is nothing left to be done.

They pause for their final, infinite moment before L slowly separates his hand from Light’s before slowly bringing his legs beneath him. He takes a few steps away, each echoing his words as his boots step into shallow puddles on damp concrete.

‘It’ll pass… It’ll pass… It’ll pass…’

“I’m leaving the case. It’s time for me to move on, and I hope you can do the same.” L’s words drip with finality as he begins to walk into the darkness down the street, his shoes still echoing the words.

It’s okay. Light knows those words are a lie anyway. Love never passes, it just changes. It changes into hate, grief, pain, memory, but it’s always there, and it was always love.

L turns back to the bus stop one last time, to face his lover one last time. “I love you too.” He says quietly, only this time, the wind does carry his words. His lover nods and L turns, resigning from their stalemated game, and from Light’s life.

“Checkmate.” Light whispers to himself, knowing exactly what to do next. L may have resigned his king, but by no means did Light have to take it. He wants the game to go on and by God, that game will go on.

He takes the Death Note out of the inner pocket of his coat, its black cover becoming spotted with raindrops as a light rain starts to pick up. Light smiles, tears out one page, and throws the rest of the book in the bus stop trash bin. After all, there’s only one more name he needs to write. He folds the final page into a neat square and tucks it back into his pocket, beginning to walk down the street away from the bus stop, and away from his lover.

Two different paths will always have the same outcome if one is determined enough. It will never end like this. Love will never pass, and even if it would, do you really think Light would let it?
