lauren’s right hand held the door to keep it just cracked open as she leaned against the doorframe. at least, that’s what it looked like to her sorority sister. her shoulder was leaning against the doorframe, but her hand was over ellie’s mouth in attempt to keep her quiet. she listened to her sister ramble on about one of the other girl’s in the house, “i appreciate you coming to me with this. let’s just sleep on it tonight and if you feel the same tomorrow morning, find me and we’ll take the next steps to resolve this immediately.” the sophomore was apprehensive, but nodded knowing that lauren had seniority as president of the sorority. “have a goodnight,” the blonde waved off, as she shut her door and quickly locked it. “jesus christ,” lauren hissed under her breath as she eyed ellie, dropping her hand from the girl’s mouth. “do you think she heard you?” they never hung out in lauren’s room because it meant she had to sneak ellie into the sorority house, but the other girl had managed to convince her. it was fair to say that the blonde was paranoid to say the least.

"okay, ms. labels." lauren rolled her eyes dismissively. far more interested in the thought of ellie coming over more often (even if she was paranoid of them getting caught by one of her sisters). "no one wants to be on the receiving end of grumpy ellie," lauren teased, "i am sure it's nothing 'little old me' can't fix. cheesy movie? cuddles?" she raised her eyebrows temptingly before a gleaming smile grew on her face. though it slightly faltered for a second before she broke into a laugh. "babe, it's so rude for you to ruin my plan like that. i already had my outfit picked out and everything," she kept the quip going before being a bit more serious. "it'll be nice." she squeezed the other. "you can stay as long as you want. mi casa es mi casa or whatever. my dad is always at work and my mom spends her time between the country club bar and her therapist so, it'll just be us for the most part. you can even bring nev along if it'll make you feel more better."
a fit of laughter filled the room, especially when she was referred to as a sugar mama. “now that you have a car, it wouldn’t hurt if you came to visit more often,” lauren reminded before horror hit her face, “oh god, i do sound like one.” everything seemed so much simpler when it was just the two of them, tangled in each other’s arms, with grinning smiles. eyebrows knit together for a moment, “did i miss a chapter there?” she questioned at the other girl about her job but was quickly distracted with the possibility of a getaway trip. “well,” she studied the other girl before blurting out what she had been thinking about for a while now, “after my internship, i’m spending my summer on east end of long island… “ the hamptons, “why don’t you come visit?"
"i don’t have a car, i’m borrowing your car,” ellie was quick to remind; she knew lauren meant well, but there were times when it was clear how differently they were raised. ellie’s parents were hardly wealthy, with her mother working for a non profit & her father working for the municipality they lived in. lauren, on the other hand, came from what seemed like another world. “but i do love the idea of seeing you more, i get grumpy when i can’t come see you. your sisterhood’s busy season is really cramping my style,” the young woman joked, although there was a hint of honesty in her remark. the next question made her pause, cocking her head to the side as she lay with her arms and legs entangled with lauren’s. these stolen moments of privacy were some of her favorite things, what would it be like to spend almost a whole summer with lauren? “for how long? i mean, that sounds fun, but what happens if you get sick of me? i’ve heard rich, white women like to kill their lovers in the hamptons & then dramatically stand at the bottom of a lighthouse staring at the sea,” ellie was almost incapable of having a serious conversation, hiding insecurities and fears inside sarcasm.
