put a bit of space between, but i think it's time for the second half of this request:

Thought it'd be nice to save a big one for the 99th ranking! And Latias/Latios get a crazy amount of love from the TCG - including one of the most sought-after cards of the last decade. If you don't know why, I'm sure you will after this!
As for ranking 100, well. Stay tuned.

Zircon Info Post!!!
aka: Hey, what's with that Latios you keep drawing Steven with?
So if you've seen this blog in this past couple months it's highly likely you've seen art of this guy, a Latios named Zircon who i often draw with Steven Stone, but I realize that not everyone coming across my blog may know what his deal is, and so i've decided to put together a post explaining his lore as of March 8th 2025!
Zircon is one half of the Lati duo encountered by the player in ORAS, with my verse taking inspiration from Alpha Sapphire in that Team Aqua tried to capture his sister April and he reached out to Steven and May for help rescuing her. Much like in the plot of the game his sister ends up joining May's team and he kinda goes off to do his own thing for a little while.
He doesn't end up joining Steven's team until after the events of the delta episode, when Steven has started to question himself and is wanting to step down from champion to do some soul searching. It's around this same time Zircon starts to feel lonely without his sister around all the time, and doesn't know what to do with himself either, and he decides to search out that kind man who helped him out, and he asks Steven to let him travel with him as thanks. Steven is, very caught off guard by the offer, but in the end agrees.
(pssst i wrote a fic about this interaction)
Steven and Zircon's story in my head primarily follows the two of them traveling across different regions, and having a bit of a pokémon journey alongside Steven's other pokemon, and the hijinks that come from the ex champion of Hoenn suddenly having a legendary pokemon on him out of nowhere. The two eventually develop a very close bond and Zircon is basically a part of the family by the end of everything.
If you have any questions or curiosity please don't be afraid to ask!!! i love info dumping about this guy! He's a very dear and special oc to me right now! I thought it was wild i had never seen anyone expand on the fact Steven was associated two separate Lati side quests and so i decided to play with the idea myself.

soul eater pokemon au no one asked for
would take place in a region with lord death as the champion and his death scythes as the elite four, and of course stein as the pokemon professor
i'm thinking the elite four would be marie, azusa, justin, and spirit and the rest of the major adult characters would be gym leaders (ex. mifune for fighting types, sid for ghost types maybe, medusa for poison types)
(spoiler alert i've put the most thought into spirit and stein here. as usual)
spirit serving as the last member of the elite four before you fight the champion--it used to be a double battle with his wife before they got divorced. their ace pokemon respectively were latias and latios (spirit having latias) with their corresponding mega stones being embedded in their wedding rings.
so spirit's ace pokemon serves as a constant reminder of his divorce. yikes.
anyway beyond that i think spirit would specialize in support pokemon even after he stopped doing the whole double battle strategy. i'm thinking gardevoir and audino. yes he would be constantly avoiding the allegations that come with training a gardevoir.
definitely takes a liking to pokemon that are in tune with their trainer's emotions.
besides that i think he would have a lycanroc (midnight form) because it fits the dog motif and also reminds me of how he forms his scythe blades in the show sometimes.
and then there's stein of course. whose character design does not change at all. he already looks like he belongs in pokemon.
he would definitely take an interest into man-made pokemon and pokemon that have appeared in recent years due to human activity (i'm thinking porygon-z and magneton would be some of his partners)
also definitely has a soft spot for ghost types and is very interested in researching them because of their connections to the concept of souls. absolutely has a mimikyu and a banette i mean come on.
isn't too interested in battling despite being very good at it, more concerned with developing and filling out the pokedex.
i can also see stein being interested in the concept of evolution, specifically split evolutions. i think he would have an eevee just to see what it would evolve into with no pressure towards a specific outcome. but the little guy is so spoiled that it probably ends up staying an eevee and just hanging out in the lab with him.
(he always says he's gonna dissect it to find out more about evolution and potential energy. never does)
and, of course, blair is a talking purrloin
#ive been sitting on this for awhile and finally started sketching it out#but i sorta want to wait till i get my drawing tablet back to post that stuff#i feel like maka would have a scorbunny starter but im not sure abt soul#scraggy fits his aesthetic but its not technically a starter yknow#mine#soul eater

Pikachu, Psyduck, Duraludon, and the case for NFE (Not Fully Evolved) Pokemon for Pokemon Unite.
The Pokemon Unite Championship Series has come and gone, congratulations to everyone who made it to the big stage. As a casual player, however, I'm a bit more interested in the trailer teasing the next three pokemon coming to Pokemon Unite.
The first one coming soon is Armarouge, the counterpart to Ceruledge. Both of them evolve from Charcadet, but can only do so through an evolution item exclusive to a specific version of the game. This is par for the course, as plenty of pokemon have parallels between them, like how Latios and Latias can only be obtained in either Pokemon Ruby or Pokemon Sapphire, or how you can only get a Cranidos or a Shieldon in either version of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. This also applies to the available pokemon in Pokemon Unite, though a lot of them are missing their contemporaries.
Like, Sableye has been in the Unite roster for a while, but its counterpart, Mawile, has yet to make an appearance. Trevenant is also in the game, but there's no sign of Gourgeist. Buzzwole and Pheromosa are from the same dimension, but only one is playable. And that's not even without going over the EX pokemon having to fight solo. I mean, what is Zacian without Zamazenta, or Miraidon without Koraidon?
Ok, I'm digressing, but I think I've made my point at how we're getting a pair of pokemon pals on the roster at long last. Hopefully the collection is filled out soon with more acquaintances reuniting with each other on the roster. Gotta catch 'em all, right?
And then there's Darkrai, a long time fan favorite from Gen 4. You know how it goes with these kinds of pokemon, the shadowy, edgy, demon-like monster attracts all the typical quarry, but it helps that it got its own movie.
What's more interesting to me is how Darkrai, along with many other pokemon on the Unite roster, also had a spot in Pokken Tournament. Normally there'd be minimal correlation, but eagle eyed fans of both games would recognize that there's some shared animations between the two.
There are other examples, like Garchomp's Dig being 1:1 in how it is animated, or that Pikachu's Volt Tackle is functionally identical in both games, but the big idea here is that the Pokken Tournament roster is slowly being integrated into Pokemon Unite.
If that theory is true, then there are several pokemon very likely to be put into Pokemon Unite within the games lifetime, that being the likes of Empoleon, Sceptile, Weavile, and Suicune.
That even includes long shot ideas like this guy.
Now's the part where we talk about Psyduck and NFEs in general. NFE stands for Not Fully Evolved and it is a technical classification due to the item Eviolite only working on NFE pokemon. But that's neither here nor there, because the real headscratcher is how Psyduck got into the game instead of Golduck.
A big part of it is popularity, something Psyduck and Pikachu have in spades over their superior forms. It also helps being the favorite pokemon of Junichi Masuda, one of the founders of Game Freak and Pokemon in general. However, not being able to fully evolve limits your potential on the battlefield in Pokemon Unite, but given Psyduck's characteristic of constantly being plagued by headaches, the Supporter role was a shoo-in for the doofy duck.
Psyduck being in the game opens the door for other NFE pokemon to join the roster. The reason we're looking at this now is because Pikachu, having been in the game since launch, was guaranteed a spot on the roster due to its mascot status. It's also the status quo that Raichu gives the spotlight to Pikachu in all things related to pokemon, so no love lost there.
I do need to mention Duraludon real quick because its status as an NFE pokemon in Pokemon Unite was entirely coincidental. It gained an evolution in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, during the Indigo Disk expansion which was released several months later after launch. Before that, Duraludon was a standalone evolution when it was revealed back in Pokemon Sword and Shield, and no one would have guessed that it would gain an evolution so soon. It's not like the Unite devs could've known, they're a separate company in a different country away from Game Freak. You may have been banned from Little Cup, Duraludon, but you're still an honorary NFE in Pokemon Unite.
Anyways, more NFE pokemon joining Unite is a matter of supply and demand. There are NFE pokemon out there that have their fans, but are they loved more than their evolutions? Are there enough NFE pokemon out there that have a shot at the Pokemon Unite roster?
I already mentioned Croagunk before, so let's go over its odds. While most NFE pokemon that reached the peak of popularity reside in Gen 1, Croagunk is a special case in that it seems to be liked more than Toxicroak. Now, I like both, but if it were up to me, I'd choose Toxicroak over Croagunk. I'd be fine if the latter got in over the former. I understand the appeal though, as something about its lax demeanor made it popular enough that it got into Pokken Tournament as DLC.
In Pokken Tournament, its fighting style revolved around randomness, with random effects happening through some of its moves, or random items being thrown out, or even utilizing random debuffs and buffs to its benefit. In Pokemon Unite, it would most likely be a Supporter with a gambling gimmick, having the potential to deal high damage randomly, but would most likely debuff the enemy with poison and hindrances.
So, are there any other NFEs that can join Pokemon Unite? Well, for one, Meowth has a fair shot, having been in just as many episodes in the anime as Pikachu. I actually made a case for Meowth for Pokemon Unite a while ago, though I made my opinions clear that I preferred Persian instead. Also, a frail Supporter that was reliant on its ability to hinder the enemy is something that is typically difficult to balance. I mean, look at Sableye, having once been feared for its invisible tomfoolery, now underwhelming when it appears in a Unite Match. There's gotta be a fine line in making tricky Supporters fun and fair for everyone. And what does Meowth bring to the table?
As it is themed around good luck and good fortune, a gambling gimmick may also be utilized for its moveset. Since it is well known to use the move Pay Day to fill its trainers pockets, perhaps it could augment an allies Score Pocket by filling it with points or boosting their scoring speed. Although, if Meowth were to take the spot away from Persian, maybe it could take on the Speedster role and throw coins that deal random damage and capitalize on its good luck. Of course, it's odds are even at the beginning of the game, but with more move upgrades it could lean into a very lucky lightning bruiser to make up for its low defenses. (this bit is inspired by @reefs-n-relaxation comment on my Meowth for Pokemon Unite post.)
Beyond these two, I don't really know of any other NFE pokemon that they could possibly add. I mean, maybe you could throw in niche picks like Spheal or Smoliv, but do we really want to see the Supporter archetype cluttered with NFEs? I'm not sure we'll be getting anymore after Psyduck releases, but hey, I'm happy to be proven wrong.
What about you? If you've read this far, maybe you have a favorite NFE that could join Pokemon Unite. I'd love to hear about it.

Heroverse- The "Canon" Protagonists
contrary to the title this isn't about the Heroverse protags at all. this is basically me explaining the roles the "canon" PKMN protags play in the verse. when I say this I mean like Lucas, Ethan, May, etc. because a good chunk of these guys actually DO exist within the Heroverse lore even if they're not in the role of "protagonist"! well, some of them exist, and some of them are taken up by "placeholders".
Akari- doesn't exist. her placeholder is Hana, ancestor of Quartz and former chosen of Shaymin and Giratina.
Rei- also doesn't exist. Placeholder is Atticus, ancestor of Blake and a former chosen of Reshiram.
Red- The only "canon" protag that is also still a protag in Heroverse. Specifically of the FR/LG games, I don't feel I have to explain it. Chosen of Mew and Articuno.
Leaf- Red's sister. Became Prof. Oak's assistant as a side thing in her pursuit of Mew/Mewtwo. Still fleshing out her story, but it has something to do with Red disappearing and her thinking that finding Mew/Mewtwo will bring her the answers. Haven't decided who she's a chosen of yet, potentially one of the Legendary birds?
Ethan- Al's best friend. A Pokemon breeder, Pokeathlete, and chosen of Celebi.
Lyra- Another one of Al's traveling companions. An expert battler and future gym leader of Mahogany Town, after Pryce retires. Chosen of Suicune
Brendan- Arcelia's rival, future professor, and chosen of Latios.
May- Her story is a bit interesting. The events of Ruby are semi-canon in Heroverse, in which Team Magma did try to awaken Groudon before the events of Alpha Sapphire, it just wasn't as intense and the rest of the region never learned about it. May managed to stop them which is why Team Magma are "good guys" by the events of Alpha Sapphire. Potentially chosen of Groudon? I haven't really decided. If she is her bond with it is dormant, since its asleep. Besides all that she's a pretty renowned trainer who everyone thought was gonna take on the league and beat Steven, buuut inexplicably gave up on it and kinda hid herself from the public eye. Also the daughter of Norman.
Dawn- Not sure about her yet tbh. Haven't come up with a placeholder for her yet, or decided if she has a place in the canon.
Lucas- Professor's Rowan's assistant and Quartz's friend. He's also dating Barry. Haven't really decided what to do with him outside of that yet, but Sinnoh has a fair amount of Legendaries to work with so he might become a chosen.
Hilbert- Placeholder is Cole, an ex-trainer who became a double agent that's pretending to work for Plasma, but in truth is gathering intel to deliver to the League on how to stop them. Also trying to find his sister and get her out.
Hilda- Placeholder is Ashlynn, Cole's little sister. Also an ex-trainer, but Team Plasma managed to guilt her into releasing her Pokemon and joining them. She was formerly King's trainer, Blake's Snivy.
Serena- Haven't decided. Potentially one of Auberi's distant cousins. Might make her a chosen of one of XY mythicals.
Calem- Also haven't decided, and will also potentially be one of Auberi's cousins and a chosen of an XY mythical.
Serene- Haven't decided
Elio- Haven't decided
Victor- A friend of Hop's who lives in Wedgehurst and eventually ends up dating him. Potentially a chosen of Calyrex
Gloria- Haven't decided, will potentially be Victor's sister
Juliana- Haven't decided
Florian- Haven't decided

Have you dealt with legendary pokemon before?
Okay so. When you're in an area consistently, without any intent to battle and regularly perform tasks that help the local pokemon, you just naturally start seeing more and rarer pokemon. Pokemon are really, really good at not being spotted when they don't want to be, and that goes doubly for pokemon that trainers have decided are valuable for whatever reason. An established ranger see way more shinies and a higher amount of biodiversity than a trainer passing through an area has even the slightest chance to (ex - I doubt the new deerling herd in Tagtree is going to make itself known to any passing trainers for a LONG time).
And sometimes there are legendaries protecting certain areas. And when those legendaries see you doing the exact same job as them, they will often get comfortable enough to make themselves known and say a brief little hello. I somewhat regularly saw Latias and Latios back in Hoenn swinging through the forest on their little rounds. Suicune and Celebi pretty are also commonly reported sightings.
But the one legendary that any field ranger worth their salt has seen and subdued. The one legendary that basically provides us with a hazing ritual for newly minted rank 10 and field op rangers. The bastard himself, is Heatran. That weird ass lava gremlin just LOVES to harass rangers, and they are widespread enough that most of us have been stationed somewhere long enough to have dealt with one. And since they are still legendaries, the Union will always send out at least one field ranger with back up to deal with whatever destruction the fuckin beast is out there wrangling.
If you have made the field ranger position or achieved rank 10 and you have never dealt with a heatran you simply do not get the same respect from other rangers. It has all the communal bonding of a hazing ritual, but since it's outsourced to some random super-powered lava jerk so no one has their trust broken. Best of both worlds. Assuming you come out of it okay.
All that to say - I have met legendaries before. The only one I've gone toe-to-toe with is Heatran. And wow. That sucked.
#pokeblogging#brandy chat#ranger lore#//I have been mulling over this ask for SO LONG I genuinely had not given any thought to legendaries for bran's canon lmao#//so REALLY good ask#//thank you!

Since it’s father’s day, some assorted thoughts on Norman most of it is based on Emerald’s interpretation but I do touch a bit on Ruby/Sapphire and Pokemon Masters EX:
(Warning, this is very unorganized and I’m just writing whatever pops into my head)
Norman has two kids, Whitney and Brendan.
When they were living in Johto, Norman was a super stern father. To the point when both Whitney and Brendan asked to dye their hair he said no.
Whitney waits for her family to move to Hoenn to dye her hair
Brendan learns to knit and makes his iconic hat. He made it while in the back of the moving truck and used his Advance SP as light.
After moving to Hoenn he wanted to loosen up and because he felt like he was too hard on them (I think there was some period of time where he moved to Hoenn first just so he could get acquainted with the Hoenn Pokemon and properly become a Hoenn gym leader there)
He taught Whitney how to catch her first Pokemon outside of Olivine.
He wanted to teach Brendan how to catch his first Pokemon, too but decided to teach Wally how to catch his first pokemon as warm up (This was promptly ruined the moment Brendan showed up to Petalburg gym with his starter and at least one Pokemon) Hence why Norman says “Oh. I see, you’re with your Pokemon”)
Norman then gets the brilliant on the spot idea to get Brendan to teach Wally how to catch Pokemon because he believed in his abilities (and also because he thinks it’s a great opportunity for Brendan to make his first friend not knowing that technically Brendan’s first friend was May)
After Brendan beats him and wins his Balance Badge he tries to come up with a way to schedule time so they can eat a meal together.
After you beat him in Emerald he talks about how the player should go home and visit their mother (a hint to the player the mother will give you the Amulet Coin)
If you call your mother in Emerald after you beat your dad she mentions Norman only ever comes home to eat and then goes back to the gym and jokes that he took losing to you very hard
Conclusion: Norman is trying to ask in a very roundabout way to ask his son to eat a meal with them as a family.
I have also thought Norman set aside the Amulet Coin to give to his son as a congratulations for beating him.
This is even better in Pokemon Masters EX where Norman asks the playing character if there’s a good place that young people like to eat: "Do you know of any good restaurants that are popular with young people on Pasio? I was thinking I'd like to take my son out the next time we have a day off!"
(Brendan may or may not have already eaten with Latios: "Latios has the ability to make people see images of what it has seen or imagines in its head. But my Latios is actually kinda shy. Earlier he was acting so fidgety, I was wondering what was up... And it turned out he just wanted to tell me he was hungry! Isn't that cute?")
(My favorite running gag is to constantly have his plans “foiled” by outside forces, hang in there Norman....)
Norman sometimes tries to bond with his son by giving him rare berries he finds on his walk (in Ruby/Sapphire when you scanned in the E-Reader berries you go to Norman to pick them up).
Similarly when you scanned in the Eon Ticket the only message that is played when you load up the game is just the game saying “Go see your father.”
When you use Arbitrary Code Execution to activate the Eon Ticket event, you just go get the ticket from the Lilycove Department store, one way to read this is that Norman won the lottery and his decides to give the ticket to his kid
In general Norman always frets about his kids but learns to give them room to grow and is just overall doing his best
(He even mentions this in Emerald if you call him after you get your 2nd badge: "Hm… Little by little, but also very surely, you're getting tougher, <player>. The stronger you get, the farther and higher you soar from Mother and me… This feeling is hard to explain." )
To some extent, I think the reason he doesn’t accept Brendan’s challenge right away is because he knew his team would be hard to beat for a rookie. Losing can be pretty discouraging, so I think he wanted Brendan to develop a stronger sense of confidence and gain more experience before accepting his challenge.
Even though badges 2-4 can technically be done in any order, I do think it makes sense narratively for Flannery to be the last gym leader to fight before Norman.
When you first arrive at the Petalburg Gym Norman says this: Hmm… Then I guess you're going to become a Trainer like me, <player>. That's great news! I'll be looking forward to it! , which I can imagine Brendan reading as he’s expected to eventually hone his skills and become a gym leader (even though that’s not what he actually said) Coupled with a personal HC that Whitney is his older sister, it adds an extra layer of pressure to follow the “family tradition”.
Added to that in the original RSE designs, Brendan’s sprite shows his sideburns that are of similar color to Norman’s hair, meaning it’s possible Brendan was design to look a lot like Norman (And why I HC Brendan made that hat and wanted to dye his hair, he wanted to create an image of himself that was for him)
After you beat Flannery she says this: "Oh... I guess I was trying too hard... I... I've only recently become a Gym Leader. I tried too hard to be someone I'm not. I have to do things my natural way. If I don't, my Pokémon will be confused. Thanks for teaching me that. For that, you deserve this." and apparently after you talk to her again: she says this: "Your power reminds me of someone... Oh! I know! You battle like Norman, the Gym Leader of Petalburg."
I think this always sets up to the core part of Brendan’s early journey about struggling to be himself and while getting comments comparing him to his father (I say this but the only other time it’s mentioned is Birch mentioning that the playing character is a chip off the old shoulder kind of comment)
This is also why I really think Brendan’s hat is important to his character design and why I think Brendan was always designed with the intent on being Norman’s son (even though throughout this entire post I’ve been sort of using Brendan/the playing character almost interchangeably)
Overall, if you made it to the end, I don’t think Norman is a bad father, but I think he was unprepared for fatherhood and was trying to figure it out as he went. Also I guess, the post got derailed at some point and started to talk a little too much about personal interpretations of Brendan, but I think they were important to explain Norman’s effect on Brendan, specifically.
Edit: I forgot to include it but if you do have a Pixiv account please like and bookmark [this work]. There’s a lot of cute works where Norman is just being a dork with Brendan and May and his junior trainers and made me appreciate Norman a lot more.

Hello, I am Jax, an ex-team aqua grunt, the leader of Operation: Clean Seas, a student at Blueberry Academy (a member of the league club now I guess), and the current champion of the Trading Card Game Islands. I am a berry farmer, like most of my biological family (@julie-winstrate-and-star-no-mi is my sister). I will occasionally snowboard or stream games when I have the chance.
also all of the mail stuff and magic anons are on. I think I'm supposed to say that here
I have a lot of Pokémon that I'm taking care of, my Swampert Skipper, my Jolteon Sparky, my Gholdengo Oro, my Cinderace Queso, my three Tinkatons Lydia, Leona, and Laura, my Slither Wing Pillow, my Chi-Yu, my Blissey, my paradox Zoroark/Hiding Illusion Blanket, my Nihilego Peanut Butter, my shiny Hatterene Hattie (@miss-cool-hat), my Hoppiny Pikmin, my Raticate Remy, my Audino Audio, my Hisuian Sneasel Sneezie, my Eevee that has part of my soul, my Froslass Shiver, my Latios Sapphire, my Cosmoem Fwoofy, a Torchic, a fairy type Torchic, Lavarus, Knight the Iron Spinner/paradox Kirlia, a shiny midnight Lycanroc, a weird Deoxys, a giant Muk, a "Palamute", Goopster the Ditto, Floofster the 'M, Hokey Pokey the h POKe, Miku the shiny Meloetta, an Alolan Sandshrew, and Terapagos.

ooc info under cut
hello, sorry for the new intro! this blog is run by @half-or-nothing!
this blog is pretty high-stakes at times, and there will be a lot of wacky shit. y'know, for funsies. Jax is a Mew hybrid, and has Nihilego poison in him, so he can do some weird stuff like learn every tm and use poison fang. he also used to be an aqua grunt! those were fun times. oh well. he's also a criminal probably. so you can do some fun stuff with that if you want. I think that's all for now. feel free to tell me if I'm forgetting something. I'll update this when I remember to add something. also Winstrate is a Porygon 2 now thanks to Jax's coding abilities
anyways here are some rules
No NSFW! this character is a minor and this is run by a minor!
Don't send ooc hate to me or anyone I interact with! the people running the other blogs are really nice and cool!
be respectful! no homophobia or transphobia or any of the shit here! none of it!
ok that's all of the rules I can think of for now. feel free to send a dm or an ask with any questions you might have!
