Raspberry Pi 5 / RP1 chip support for Neopixels with Python bindings coming soon 🎉💡🖥️🌈🐍
Hot off the PIO-presses, our resident Jepler created a Python binding for the Raspberry Pi 5 that lets us use the RP1 chip
on the 5/500 series boards to drive Neopixels using PIO. This is great because we can now use Neopixels
and friends on the latest Pi boards, and we can use any pin because PIO is not limited by underlying peripherals. You do need the latest kernel and firmware, so it is not quite ready for prime-time, but once piolib
is more readily available, we'll be able to have folks test this out.

FUTURE ULTIMATE PHONE PEOPLE THINK
Google pixel 9pro
The Google Pixel 9 Pro is the new kid on the block in this year's lineup. The Pixel 8 Pro was succeeded by the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and the 9 Pro is a new addition to the portfolio - it is a compact, full-featured flagship with all of the bells and whistles of its bigger XL sibling
A compact Pixel is not a new concept in itself, of course, but this is the first time Google is bringing the entirety of its A-game to this form factor. The Pixel 9 Pro packs a 48MP, 5x optical periscope telephoto camera - the same as the Pixel 9 Pro XL. There is also UWB onboard the Pixel 9 Pro. Frankly, it's kind of amazing that Google managed to fit so much extra hardware inside what is essentially the same footprint as the non-Pro Pixel 9.
Google Pixel 9 Pro specs at a glance: Body: 152.8x72.0x8.5mm, 199g; Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus 2), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus 2), aluminum frame; IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 min). Display: 6.30" LTPO OLED, 120Hz, HDR10+, 2000 nits (HBM), 3000 nits (peak), 1280x2856px resolution, 20.08:9 aspect ratio, 495ppi; Always-on display. Chipset: Google Tensor G4 (4 nm): Octa-core (1x3.1 GHz Cortex-X4 & 3x2.6 GHz Cortex-A720 & 4x1.92 GHz Cortex-A520); Mali-G715 MC7. Memory: 128GB 16GB RAM, 256GB 16GB RAM, 512GB 16GB RAM, 1TB 16GB RAM; UFS 3.1. OS/Software: Android 14, up to 7 major Android upgrades. Rear camera: Wide (main): 50 MP, f/1.7, 25mm, 1/1.31", 1.2µm, dual pixel PDAF, OIS; Telephoto: 48 MP, f/2.8, 113mm, 1/2.55", dual pixel PDAF, OIS, 5x optical zoom; Ultra wide angle: 48 MP, f/1.7, 123-degree, 1/2.55", dual pixel PDAF. Front camera: 42 MP, f/2.2, 17mm (ultrawide), PDAF. Video capture: Rear camera: 8K@30fps, 4K@24/30/60fps, 1080p@24/30/60/120/240fps; gyro-EIS, OIS, 10-bit HDR; Front camera: 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60fps. Battery: 4700mAh; 27W wired, PD3.0, PPS, 55% in 30 min (advertised), 21W wireless (w/ Pixel Stand), 12W wireless (w/ Qi-compatible charger), Reverse wireless. Connectivity: 5G; eSIM; Wi-Fi 7; BT 5.3, aptX HD; NFC. Misc: Fingerprint reader (under display, ultrasonic); stereo speakers; Ultra Wideband (UWB) support, Satellite SOS service, Circle to Search. Google also paid some extra attention to the display of the Pro. It is a bit bigger than the Pixel 8's and better than that inside the regular Pixel 9. The resolution has been upgraded to 1280 x 2856 pixels, the maximum brightness has been improved, and there is LTPO tech for dynamic refresh rate adjustment.

Super Famicom - Wing Commander
Title: Wing Commander / ウイングコマンダー
Developer: ORIGIN Systems / Mindscape Inc.
Publisher: ASCII Corporation
Release date: 23 July 1993
Catalogue Code: SHVC-WC
Genre: 3D Space Combat Simulation
The Confederation has been at war with the Kilrathi for the past 20 years, and you're just now joining the Vega campaign. You're a 2nd Lieutenant just out of the Academy, with some good work under your belt. You're posted to Tiger's Claw, the flagship of the Confederation Fleet. Will you help the Confederation to victory, or go down in infamy? Wing Commander is a space combat simulator interspersed with shipboard dialogs. Onboard the ship, you can save/load the game, visit the bar to get the latest gossip or go on to the next mission briefing, and the 3D space combat part.
As much as I hated Wing Commander on the Amiga (I never played on an Amiga or Amiga-based system), I can't deny that it makes a damn fine console game. Even the Amiga CD32 (which I haven't tried yet) and Mega CD versions should play quite well, and I heard the 3DO update titled "Super Wing Commander" deserves my attention as well. It looks good, sounds good, and is the sort of game that the SNES has been screaming out for ages! Okay, so it's not a patch on the all-conquering Star Fox by Argonaut Software but it's much better than the tragic Warpspeed (which only saw an American release on the SNES) and Vortex even and shows that the SFC can do impressive-looking 3D even without the aid of a special chip! I'm not sure how long it'll hold its appeal, but you're guaranteed plenty of fun for as long as it does.

Forget Samsung: Xiaomi 14 Series Ready to Dethrone Galaxy S24 as King of Android
The Xiaomi 14 series has been officially unveiled in China, and it looks like it will be the Android flagship series to beat in 2023. The new Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro come with improvements across the board, including bright displays, the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, upgraded cameras, super-fast charging, and a titanium frame option for the Pro model. While we wait to get the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro in for full reviews, here is a preview of the key specs and features to expect from Xiaomi's latest flagships. We'll update this preview once we have the devices in hand and can provide more details from our hands-on testing. The Pro model also introduces a variable aperture main camera and titanium frame option. We'll need to thoroughly test out these phones to see how all these specs translate to real-world performance and experience. Stay tuned for our full reviews! Xiaomi 14 Series Design The Xiaomi 14 series retains the premium design identity of the previous generation, with curved displays and backs, rectangular camera modules, and slim profiles. The Pro model introduces an eye-catching new titanium frame option. Both phones also utilize Xiaomi's new proprietary Ceramic Glass material on the front and back for added durability.
Xiaomi 14 Pro Color options include: - Xiaomi 14: Jade Green, Black, White, Pink - Xiaomi 14 Pro: Titanium, Black, White, Green
Xiaomi 14 Xiaomi 14 Series Cameras The Leica-tuned cameras on the Xiaomi 14 series bring some exciting upgrades. The main 50MP sensor on the Pro model features a variable f/1.4-f/4.0 aperture for more flexibility. The new 50MP ultrawide camera promises improved quality. The telephoto camera uses a floating lens element for better edge-to-edge sharpness. New AI tricks like eye tracking autofocus and Night OIS should also help boost photography. We look forward to putting these new camera systems through their paces.
Xiaomi 14 Series Software The latest Xiaomi 14 series introduces an exciting shift from MIUI to the new HyperOS. Running on Android 14 out of the box, HyperOS promises an improved user experience focused on four key areas: performance optimization, seamless connectivity, predictive intelligence, and robust security. While full details on HyperOS are yet to come, early reports suggest substantial AI and on-device neural processing. This enables advanced contextual awareness and personalization. Software support remains unconfirmed, but if last year's models are any indication, the Xiaomi 14 line should receive major OS updates for at least four years. Xiaomi 14 Series Availability The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro launched first in China, but global availability typically follows a couple months later. Pricing is also usually a bit lower for global markets. We expect the Xiaomi 14 series to compete head-to-head with the Galaxy S23 series in many regions later this year. The Xiaomi 14 in particular looks like excellent value if they can hit a competitive price point. In summary, the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro bring some exciting upgrades and look very promising on paper. We can't wait to get them in hand for full reviews. They have a good chance of being the top Android flagships of 2023 if their real-world performance lives up to the hype. Stay tuned for our detailed analysis. Read the full article

Remarkable Features of the iPhone 15 Pro Max
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is Apple's latest flagship smartphone, and it's packed with impressive features. Here's a closer look at some of the most notable ones:
Design and Build
The iPhone 15 Pro Max features a sleek and modern design with a titanium frame and Corning-made glass on both the front and back. It's also IP68-rated, making it water and dust-resistant.
The titanium frame is stronger and more durable than aluminum, and it also gives the phone a more premium look and feel. The Corning-made glass is also very durable, and it's resistant to scratches and cracks.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is also slightly thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This makes it more comfortable to hold and use, even for extended periods of time.
Display
The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a stunning 6.7-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10, Dolby Vision, and a peak brightness of 2000 nits. This means that you can enjoy your favorite content in stunning clarity and detail.
The 120Hz refresh rate makes animations look incredibly smooth and fluid. HDR10 and Dolby Vision provide a wider range of colors and brighter contrast, resulting in more realistic and immersive visuals.
The peak brightness of 2000 nits makes the display easy to see, even in bright sunlight. This is especially useful when you're using your phone outdoors or in other well-lit environments.
Performance
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is powered by the latest A17 Pro chip, which is built on a 3nm process. This makes it one of the fastest smartphones on the market, capable of handling even the most demanding tasks with ease.
The A17 Pro chip is also very efficient, so you can expect to get long battery life from the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Camera System
The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a triple-lens camera system on the back, consisting of a 48MP wide-angle lens, a 12MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide lens. This system takes stunning photos and videos in any lighting condition.
The 48MP wide-angle lens captures more detail than ever before, and it also performs better in low light. The 12MP periscope telephoto lens provides 5x optical zoom, which is the most on any iPhone to date. This makes it possible to zoom in on distant objects without losing any detail.
The 12MP ultrawide lens captures a wide field of view, making it perfect for capturing landscapes and group photos.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max also has a new ProMotion camera system that features a faster autofocus system and improved low-light performance.
Video Recording
The iPhone 15 Pro Max can record 4K video at up to 60 frames per second. It also supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR recording.
The new ProMotion camera system also features improved video stabilization, making it easier to capture smooth and steady videos.
Battery Life
The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a large 4422mAh battery that can easily last a full day on a single charge. It also supports fast wired and wireless charging, so you can quickly top it up when needed.
Price
The iPhone 15 Pro Max officially hit the market in September 2023, with an initial price point of 230,000 BDT in Bangladesh. This price applies to the 8GB 256GB variant, while the higher-storage variants are expected to command higher prices. It caters to a wide range of preferences and needs.

Apple's Move to USB-C is Apparently Really Popular with Consumers
It took some time, but Apple's new iPhone 15 series phones finally ditched the company's own lightning port for the more standardized USB-C hardware format, joining the likes of the MacBook and iPad lines, not to mention countless other Android phones all over the market. With that said, it looks like Apple's latest move has been popular among consumers, especially folks who like to do a bit of reading online. More specifically, data from the folks over at mobiles.co.uk shows that the buzz surrounding Apple's new USB-C-equipped smartphones is nothing to scoff at - more than a hundred thousand news posts about the iPhone 15's new hardware feature have gone live, proving that the move to a more standard hardware connectivity solution - no matter how late - is favourable on Apple's behalf, at least in terms of public awareness and marketing reach. While USB-C ranks as the top dog in mobiles.co.uk's data chart, second place goes to Dynamic Island. The feature was introduced with the iPhone 14 series, and marks Apple's move from its rather divisive notch design, to a more mainstream camera cutout display style also seen on competing Android brands. These aren't the only pre-existing smartphone trends that Apple has adopted though, as the incorporation of AOD (always-on display) on the iPhone 14 series also proved popular, ranking in third place in terms of news posts. Given this new information, it's quite possible that Apple is feeling the building pressure from the competition. While iPhones continue to reign among the world's top-selling smartphones, it's no secret that they're somewhat behind in other hardware and software aspects compared to a multitude of Android phones, especially when it comes to battery technology and camera hardware. Still, the popularity of Apple's flagship handsets is something impressive in itself, amounting to huge sales numbers every year. The iPhone 15 series features four different models, which include the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. The Pro models come with new Titanium builds, as well as the new USB-C ports. The phones also feature the new A17 Pro chipset from Apple, which features some promising performance upgrades including ray tracing technology for gaming. Apple even went so far as to announce a handful of console ports for the iPhone 15 Pro series, which include the Resident Evil 4 Remake, as well as Resident Evil Village. Meanwhile, the "regular" iPhone 15 and 15 Plus count as the more wallet-friendly models in Apple's 2023 lineup. They do adapt some newer hardware, and in addition to USB-C the iPhone 15 also features the Dynamic Island camera cutout, as well as an upgraded 48MP main camera sensor, a considerable improvement over the 12MP lens that Apple has used for so long in previous iPhone models. One caveat however is that the base models run on last year's A16 Bionic chip, instead of the A17 Pro as with the Pro models. With all that said, USB-C is a step in the right direction for Apple, and we can only hope that the company adopts more competitive hardware on its future handsets. Buyers can grab the new iPhone 15 series starting at £799 for the base model iPhone 15, and £999 for the iPhone 15 Pro. Read the full article

Overcoming the Mobile Buying Challenge
Purchasing a new cell phone can be an exciting yet overwhelming task. With an ever-growing number of brands, models, features, and price tags to consider, it's no wonder that many consumers face what is often called the "portable purchasing challenge." This article aims to guide you through the process, breaking down the key factors to consider and offering practical tips to simplify your decision-making process.
Understanding the Portable Purchasing Challenge
The sheer variety of cell phones available today creates a significant challenge for buyers. This difficulty arises from several factors:
Overwhelming Choices: With hundreds of models launched each year, choosing the right one can feel like finding a needle in a haystack.
Technical Jargon: Terms like RAM, AMOLED, refresh rate, and 5G can confuse buyers who are not tech-savvy.
Budget Constraints: Balancing desired features with affordability adds complexity to the decision.
Rapid Advancements: Smartphones evolve quickly, making it hard to keep up with the latest features and trends.
Marketing Overload: Aggressive advertising campaigns often create unrealistic expectations, further complicating the decision process.
By understanding these challenges, you can better prepare to make an informed decision.
Step 1: Identify Your Needs
The first step in overcoming the mobile purchasing challenge is understanding your unique requirements. Ask yourself the following questions:
Why Will You Use the Phone?
Basic Use: If you only need a phone for calls, texts, and occasional browsing, a budget-friendly model will suffice.
Gaming and Entertainment: Gamers and movie buffs may prioritize a high-resolution display, powerful processor, and ample storage.
Photography Enthusiasts: A phone with advanced camera features, optical zoom, and high megapixels would be ideal.
Work and Productivity: Look for models with multitasking capabilities, stylus support, and productivity apps.
What Is Your Budget?
Entry-Level Phones: Typically priced under $200, these phones offer basic features and performance.
Mid-Range Phones: Priced between $200 and $600, these phones strike a balance between cost and performance.
Flagship Models: Starting at $700 and above, flagship phones offer cutting-edge technology and premium designs.
Which Operating System Do You Prefer?
Android: Known for its customization options and wide range of devices.
iOS: Offers a seamless ecosystem and premium app experience but is limited to Apple devices.
Step 2: Research and Compare
Once you've identified your needs, it's time to research potential options. Here's how to go about it:
Consider Specifications
Focus on the following key specifications:
Processor and Performance: Look for phones with processors that suit your usage. For heavy multitasking or gaming, opt for higher-end chipsets like Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series or Apple's A-series Bionic chips.
Display: Consider resolution, size, and technology (AMOLED vs. LCD). A higher refresh rate (e.g., 120Hz) ensures smoother visuals.
Battery Life: A battery capacity of 4,000mAh or more is recommended for all-day use.
Storage and RAM: Ensure sufficient internal storage (at least 64GB) and adequate RAM (4GB or more for casual users, 8GB+ for power users).
Camera Features: Pay attention to megapixels, lens types (ultra-wide, telephoto), and video recording capabilities.
Use Comparison Tools
Websites like GSMArena, PhoneArena, and official brand sites offer detailed comparisons of smartphone specifications.
Read Reviews and Watch Videos
Consumer reviews and hands-on video reviews can provide valuable insights into real-world performance, durability, and user experience.
Step 3: Prioritize Essential Features
It's important to distinguish between must-have features and nice-to-have ones. Here's a breakdown:

These phones have a raft of new "Galaxy AI" features, along with a faster Snapdragon chip, improved displays, and more efficient cooling, among many other upgrades and updates. They're also taking some cues from the latest iPhones, which we'll explain shortly. There's the compact Galaxy S24, the slightly larger Galaxy S24+, and the flagship S24 Ultra adds an S Pen and quad-camera array. The phones are all roughly the same size as last year, but there is a notable design change. Rather than having a curved aluminum frame, the S24 and S24+ are flat all the way around. And that's a good thing—the phones are comfortable to hold, and the bezels are a bit narrower. So, you get an extra tenth of an inch of display on the S24 and S24+. All three phones also run the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, at least for versions launching in the US. Samsung notes that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 also offers significant performance lifts versus its previous generation Galaxy S23 line-up, with 20% more CPU throughput, 30% better GPU (graphics) performance and a 41% lift on the NPU for a sizeable AI processing uplift. “We’re proud to continue working alongside Samsung to lead this new era for the mobile industry and provide consumers with extraordinary premium experiences,” said Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handset, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy instills its advanced AI capabilities in the Galaxy S24 series, to enable new experiences with AI features to empower users’ everyday life."The Ultra still has a slight curve to the frame, but the frame is titanium similar to the iPhone 15 Pro. The screen, however, has lost all its curve. The flat edges will mean more usable space for writing and doodling with the S Pen stylus, but it's a big phone at 6.8 inches. Samsung Galaxy S24+ Samsung has also upgraded the 120Hz OLED displays for the base and Plus variants. They're now LTPO just like the Ultra, so the display refresh can drop as low as 1Hz to save power when the phone is idle. The S24+ also steps up to a 1440p screen from 1080p in past years. Don't fret about the battery impact of that change, though—the S24+ has a sizable 4,900mAh battery, up from 4,700mAh in the S23+. These phones will ship with Android 14, and Samsung promises even better update support than previous phones. The Galaxy S24 family will get both security patches and OS updates for seven years (through early 2031). This is also one of the biggest software updates to Samsung's smartphones in years, mostly thanks to the myriad of AI related features coming this generation. Galaxy AI is a collection of features integrated with many of Samsung's pre-loaded apps. For example, Live Translate claims to offer real-time translation of phone calls, and a similar "Interpreter" feature translates conversations in real time so both parties can read what the other said. Samsung points out this feature works even without a data connection, which is rare for AI tools even when the phone has powerful machine learning hardware, like the engine inside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. There's also Chat Assist if you're too lazy to write your own text replies, and Note Assist, which summarizes and creates templates in Samsung Notes. The only non-Samsung app with Galaxy AI is Android Auto, which will summarize messages you get while driving. The camera hardware of the base S24 and S24+ are unchanged compared to last year's phones, but the processing will be different due to the new Snapdragon chip and Galaxy AI. Galaxy AI brings a suite of new editing tools to the S24 family. The phone can use AI to suggest edits, and there's a even a full generative edit feature that can change and fill parts of an image with whatever you want. Interestingly, Samsung says images edited with generative AI will be watermarked so they aren't passed off as a real photo. Galaxy S24 Ultra With S Pen Silo The S24 Ultra gets a new 50MP 5X telephoto camera, replacing the 10x 10MP shooter from last year. While this might sound like a strange choice, it makes the zoom progression smoother (1x, 3x, 5x) with enough resolution on the 5x that you can still digitally zoom all the way to 100x. The Galaxy S24 lineup will be available for pre-order starting today, and the phones will hit shelves on January 30th. Pricing for the S24 and S24+ are consistent with last year, at $799 and $999, respectively. However, the S24 Ultra is getting a small price bump. Instead of starting at $1,200 like the S23 Ultra, this phone will retail for $1,299. If you're going to pick up a Galaxy S24, you might want to order early. Samsung offers enhanced trade-in values for old phones and free storage upgrades to pre-orders. We'll have a review up and live soon, so stay tuned. [ad_2] Source link
