Ptolemaic Egypt
Ptolemaic Egypt existed between 323 and 30 BCE when Egypt was ruled by the Macedonian Ptolemaic dynasty. During the Ptolemaic period, Egyptian society changed as Greek immigrants introduced a new language, religious pantheon, and way of life to Egypt. The Ptolemaic capital Alexandria became the premier city of the Hellenistic world, known for its Great Library and the Pharos lighthouse.
From Persian Rule to Alexander
In 525 BCE, Egypt was conquered by the Achaemenid Empire, beginning a period of harsh foreign rule and cultural repression. Egypt briefly regained its independence from 404 BCE until 342 BCE before it was reconquered. Discontent with the Persian government resulted in the Egyptians welcoming Alexander the Great as a liberator when he invaded in 332 BCE. Alexander had already broken the Persian army at the Battle of Issus (333 BCE), and Mazakes, the satrap of Egypt, surrendered without a fight.
Alexander demonstrated a deep respect for Egyptian culture, choosing to be crowned pharaoh according to traditional custom. He offered sacrifices to the Egyptian gods in Heliopolis and Memphis and hosted Greek athletic games to celebrate his reign. Next, he traveled south to the Oracle of Amun, whom the Greeks equated with Zeus, in the Siwa Oasis. Alexander believed himself to be the son of Zeus, which the oracle seemingly confirmed for him. The idea had precedent in Egyptian royal ideology in which kings were considered living gods, the offspring of deities like Ra or Amun. It was an unusually grandiose claim for Greek rulers, but Alexander's reputation was great enough for the Greeks to accept him as a demigod.
Alexander's grand design will slowly have come to encompass the idea that all peoples were to be subjugated for the formation of a new world order; for this purpose, the Egyptian pharaonic system presented a very suitable ideology that was well established and has been accepted for millennia.
(Hölbl, 9)
In 331 BCE, Alexander visited the fishing village of Rhakotis where he planned the foundation of a new city, Alexandria. He intended for Alexandria to be the capital of his empire, a link between Egypt and the Mediterranean. Before leaving to continue his conquests, Alexander appointed two governors, Doloaspis and Peteisis, and named Cleomenes of Naukratis, a Greek Egyptian, as his satrap. He also left a small army to occupy and defend Egypt.

After the death of Alexander the Great in Babylon in 323 BCE, his general Ptolemy I became satrap of Egypt. He was nominally the servant of Alexander's successors Philip Arrhidaeus and Alexander IV of Macedon, but in reality, he ruled on his own initiative. Ptolemy I quickly executed Cleomenes, whose exorbitant taxation was unpopular, and began establishing royal policies to modernize the country. By 310 BCE, the last of Alexander's heirs had died, and during the Wars of the Diadochi, Alexander's generals claimed pieces of his empire. Ptolemy I was crowned king of Egypt in 306 BCE, establishing the Ptolemaic dynasty.

Princess Ankhnespaton [sic] (June Elvidge), daughter of King Akhnaton [sic] (Howard Gaye), has a run in with a band of thieves while traveling. Prince Karmit (Malcolm McGregor) of Syria arrives, disguised as a merchant, and saves the princess. The princess becomes enamored with Karmit and invites him back to the royal residence in Thebes.
While visiting the royal gardens, Karmit encounters a dancer, Arvia (Carmel Myers). He is instantly smitten. The princess is furious that Karmit has rebuffed her for a mere dancer.
Meanwhile, tension between those loyal to the king and those loyal to the old gods erupt when the seasonal flooding of the Nile river doesn’t occur. The princess finds in this situation an opportunity to get her revenge on Arvia.
The princess decrees that Arvia will be offered as a human sacrifice to the god Sobek, in order that the Nile will rise as expected. Arvia is adorned with a poisoned amulet to knock her out while she is fed to the crocodiles.
In an unexpected turn of events, the high priest Pasheri (Sam De Grasse) discovers that the intended sacrifice is his own daughter. Pasheri sneaks into the chamber where Arvia is to be sacrificed and saves her at the last moment.
With Pasheri’s aid, Karmit whisks Arvia away. As the Nile rises, the new couple sail away to Karmit’s kingdom to live happily ever after.
The princess goes on to marry Prince Tutankhamen (Bertram Grassby). And, after the death of her father Prince Tut will become King Tut.
Additional sequence(s) featured in the film (but I’m not sure where they fit in the continuity):
The Temple of Amun-Re is also depicted in the film.

Points of Interest:
While many contemporary reviewers of The Dancer of the Nile (DotN) didn’t mark it as an especially good film, props were given for the artistic effects achieved by Director Earle. Earle and his brother, Ferdinand Pinney Earle, were both pioneers of the era in special effects.
Ferdinand was a painter who contributed matte paintings and art titles to many films of the 1910s and 1920s. While William was primarily a director, both brothers ambitiously created films that were on the cutting edge in regard to techniques of incorporating matte paintings with live actors/studio-shot footage.
For William, it was DotN, and for Ferdinand it was A Lover’s Oath (1920/1925, presumed lost save for a few fragments), which was an adaptation of Omar Khayyam’s Rubaiyat. (ATM, I’m planning on doing the next installment of this series on this film!)
(Explanatory note: One technique at use here involves double exposure. Part of the frame is obscured while filming, leaving the obscured part of the film unexposed. The film is then rewound, with the exposed part of the film obscured, to film another element. The final result is, hopefully, a cohesive sequence.
Another technique is shooting through painted glass, which, if painted and lit correctly, results in the painting and the scene occurring behind it appearing as a singular space.
For example, a fully painted environment with live actors moving across the scene. In DotN, there is at least one scene where a live actress ascends a set of stairs, which is a painting. These techniques require an amazing amount of precision, but when done right they can be really dazzling. The double-exposure matting technique has persisted through most of film history, albeit rarely at the scale the Earle brothers were using it!
Below is an illustration of how a moving version of matte photography works from a 1926 issue of Photoplay, followed by some stills from DotN that used the multiple-exposure technique.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have a few posts coming up that go into more detail on how special effects were executed in films of the 1920s!)
William P.S. Earle’s focus on the artistic elements without much regard for story or characterization may have left many critics cold, but DotN did prove to be a lasting attraction, running in theatres around the world for years following its release.  DotN was produced hot on the heels of the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb in 1922 in Luxor, which launched a new wave of Egyptomania. On one hand, Earle was cashing in on a trend, but on the other, he took the opportunity offered by assured profitability to experiment. In addition to the special effects discussed above, Earle attempted to capture as much period accuracy as possible in the painted settings, props, and costumes. Balancing historical accuracy with perceived “authenticity” in period art is exceedingly difficult—Earle seemingly had mixed success. However, one contemporary review in the magazine Art and Archaeology by Dudley S. Corlett (also the film’s technical advisor) is highly complementary of DotN’s attention to historical and artistic detail. [You can find the review in the transcription section!]
After Earle had more or less finished DotN, F.B.O. bought “Tut-ankh-amen” for distribution. F.B.O. financed reshoots that shifted the narrative away from Tut and towards Arvia, the dancer—hence the title change. I guess F.B.O. believed that cashing in on the trend of movies about dancers would be more lucrative than cashing in on Tut-mania!

Somehow I wrote 137k words of The Sandman fanfic in the last 5 months. Behold: the result!
This has been an incredible journey - I decided to step back into fandom while I was waiting on some publishing info and news, just as something to do to keep my creativity sharp. The community and reception I discovered, however, has been astoundingly welcoming. I feel reinvigorated and ready to tackle my revisions on my next novel!
THE HOB ADHERENT SERIES
In which Hob Gadling's Stranger returns, they start a weekly hangout, Hob becomes Morpheus' Emotional Support Human (tm), Matthew bullies Hob onto a Docudrama TV series where Hob pretends to be his own ancestor, and Morpheus is the King of Repressed Symbolism.
Status: Complete
Fandom: The Sandman (TV 2022) Includes some comics canon, and some fun cameos from the wider Gaiman-verse, but it’s not necessary to know to enjoy the story.
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Discussions of grief and in-canon character death.
Relationships: Dream of the Endless/Hob Gadling, Eleanor | Hob Gadling’s Wife/Hob Gadling (past)
Primary Characters: Dream of the Endless | Morpheus, Hob Gadling, Matthew the Raven, Lucien | Lucienne (The Sandman), Mervyn Pumpkinhead, Patrick the Bartender, All the Endless Siblings, Rose Walker, Jed Walker, Lyta Hall, Daniel Hall, Orpheus, Lucifer, (plus some cameos from other characters from the Gaiman Television-Literary Universe)
Tumblr media
CLING FAST
Hob Gadling is a clingy bastard, and he’s not ashamed to admit it. He clings to life. He clings to hope. He clings to his love of humanity. He clings to his Stranger. He also, unfortunately, has a habit of clinging to his name.
Which means, when the BBC is looking for a new pet history expert to appear in their educational docudrama series “Elizabethan Manor,” they’re overjoyed to find a professor who (according to their meticulous research) is actually descended from the Master of the National Trust building they’re filming in - Gadlen House.
Only Hob knows how right they are.
Picks up a few hours after the end of Season 01 Episode 6.
Tumblr media
CARPE DIEM
Hob turns six hundred and sixty-six, invites some fellow Immortals to his pub to celebrate, and receives a gift from Satan themself. Or, the Key to Hell was always going to Be a Problem(tm).
Set between the epilogue and chapter one of Cling Fast.
Tumblr media
HOLD TIGHT
Hob is tasked with his first quest as Vassal of the Endless, Morpheus is bad at using his words, Destiny thinks he's so clever, Desire makes a confession, Rose Walker meets her Uncle's boyfriend, and Lyta Hall punches Dream of the Endless in the nose. Or, the one where Hob Gadling turns into everyone's therapist, and honestly, he ain't mad about it.
Set at the end of Cling Fast - after the premiere of “Elizabethan Manor”, but before the Epilogue.
Tumblr media
KEEPSAKES
Short ficlets set in the Hob Adherent world, based on prompts received from readers. Includes tales of how Hob and Eleanor met and wed, Hob being a badass at a Ren Faire, some hurt/comfort and sleepy smut, and the story of how Hob met Orpheus.
Tumblr media
TAKE ROOT
A deleted scene for a sequel I ended up scrapping.

After a long and arduous journey, the day finally comes that Ben is able to step foot on the pitch at Stamford Bridge again.
It feels like a lifetime since you’ve seen him play, and you couldn’t be more excited. You’re seated in a box with Kai’s girlfriend Sophia, anxiously awaiting kickoff.
You know how hard Ben has trained for this moment and that he’s been cleared by a team of doctors and physios who are at the top of their field, but you can’t help but feel incredibly nervous as you see him emerge from the tunnel with the rest of the team.
“Hey, he’ll be fine,” Sophia says reassuringly, patting your arm. “I know it’s nerve-wracking the first time back, but he’s ready for this.”
You nod, forcing a smile despite the anxiety still lodged in your chest, which you suspect won’t go away until the final whistle is blown.
It’s a tough match against Arsenal today, and only the second last of the season. You know how crucial today’s game is for securing their spot in the top 4, and as a Chelsea fan, you’re incredibly nervous about the outcome.
It’s 1-1 at halftime, and continues to be until late in the second half.
Your fists are clenched tightly as you see the Arsenal striker on the breakaway, sprinting toward the goal. A few of the Chelsea players are trying to catch up to him, but Ben is the fastest, making a successful challenge and passing the ball back to a teammate as the crowd roars.
Your panic begins to dwindle as the game finishes up and Ben continues to play with the level of skill and talent that he possessed before his injury. He’s back - really, truly, finally back to playing the game he loves.

The week that the England squad is set to be announced for the Euros, you can tell how nervous Ben is.
He’s proven himself to have made a spectacular recovery in the last two Premier League games of the season, but it remains to be seen whether that was soon enough for him to have caught Gareth Southgate’s attention.
You’re incredibly anxious, too, as you wait for any news. This is what he’s been working toward his whole career, his whole life. To play for England on that scale, to finally get the chance to show the world what he is capable of, is everything he’s ever wanted. It’s the reason he’s fought so hard this year, through all the pain and setbacks.
As a result, you’ve both found a fun, helpful way to distract yourselves - having sex in every corner of your house, as often as possible. It began with you “christening” the home after you first officially moved in, which you knew didn’t make a lot of sense as Ben’s lived there the whole time you’ve been dating and you’ve already pretty much had sex in every room.
Then, it became a useful tool when Ben was getting particularly anxious about the call-up, which was becoming more and more often as the day drew closer. You’re also enjoying his return to full fitness for numerous reasons, including the fact that he’s now able to carry you upstairs and have his way with you like he used to, displaying a level of athleticism you had sorely missed.
This particular morning, you were having a lazy cuddle on the sofa watching Sky Sports, which inevitably led to the pundits discussing the possible England lineup and Ben pulling you into his lap to take his mind off it.
You’ve helped each other strip most of your clothes off - you in only your knickers and the t-shirt of Ben’s that you slept in, him in only his boxers - when his phone starts to ring.
“Shit, I’d better-“
“Yes, get it!” you exclaim, tearing yourself off him.
Ben would never normally take a call while you’re in the middle of such activities, but it’s a different scenario when he’s waiting to hear from the manager of the national team.
He scrambles around frantically looking for his phone, eventually finding it between the couch cushions.
“It’s Southgate,” Ben exhales as he looks at the Caller ID, and your eyes go wide.
“Answer it!”
Ben nods and gulps quickly before taking the call.
“Hello?”
Your heart is racing with anticipation and you briefly wish you had asked him to put it on speaker as Ben paces back and forth across the room, saying nothing except the odd “yes, sir,” giving you absolutely nothing to go off.
After a minute or two, Ben ends the call with a “thank you, I won’t let you down,” and your breath hitches. The moment he hangs up, he turns back to look at you with a slightly dazed expression.
“Did you-“ you begin to ask, and he just nods as a massive smile takes over his face.
“I got the call up,” Ben confirms, nodding his head. “I’m in the squad!”
You squeal with delight as you run across the room to him, throwing your arms around his neck and your legs around his waist. He catches you and holds you just as close, burying his face in your neck.
“You did it, baby,” you sigh with relief, your fingers digging in slightly to his bare shoulders. “Your hard work paid off. I’m so proud of you.”
He pulls back just enough to crash his lips down on yours in one of the most passionate kisses you’ve ever shared, his soft lips parting to slide his tongue into your mouth.
“Good thing we’re already dressed to celebrate,” you murmur teasingly, tightening your legs around him so you press against his hardened cock, making him moan against your mouth.
Within seconds, he has you laid out on the couch, climbing over you and smothering you with kisses as his hands work to remove the remaining clothing you have on.
-
The time leading up to the Euros seems to drag on forever.
You’re so incredibly happy and proud that Ben made the squad, and you wouldn’t have it any other way, but you underestimated how much you would miss him while he’s away at the training camp.
You’d gotten used to him being home all the time while he was injured, so you can’t help but suffer from a bit of separation anxiety while he’s gone, and you find yourself texting and calling him more often than you’re proud to admit.
It gets to the point that when Ben picks up the phone, you hear a chorus of “hi, Y/N!” on the other line before he’s even greeted you. It’s one thing being teased by Mason or James or even Jack, who you consider close friends, but you do feel a bit embarrassed to think of national heroes like Harry Kane or Marcus Rashford knowing you as Ben’s needy girlfriend.
Mostly, though, you’re just so excited to finally get to see Ben play at such a massive level, achieving his childhood dreams.
You obviously can’t miss an entire month of work to relocate to Germany, but you make travel plans and take vacation days to ensure that you see as many as possible. Every time you show up to a game and get to see Ben play his heart out for England, it’s all worth it.
As the weeks go on, England continues to succeed and Ben gets more and more playing time. He’s obviously proven himself as a force to be reckoned with, having come back even stronger from his injury, and it makes your heart swell with pride each time you see him come on - whether you’re watching on TV or in person.
When England makes it to the semi-final against Italy, there’s not a chance in hell that you’re missing it. You make the necessary arrangements at work and book flights for you and Charlotte before letting Ben know that you’ll be there.
You only get to see him for a few minutes when you fly in the morning or the match, as he’s deep in training mode for what may very well be one of the most important games of his career.
“You’re going to be amazing,” you tell him earnestly, cupping his face. “Whether the gaffer subs you on in the 89th minute or you’re on the starting lineup - which you should be - I am so proud of you.”
“Thanks, baby, you have no idea how much it means to have you here,” Ben says quietly, squeezing your waist. “I’ll see you after the game.”
He leaves you in his hotel room as he returns to the training pitch for warmups. You know his hopes aren’t high for much playing time in such an important game, but you’re still optimistic. He’s been just as good or better than the other left-back on the team, and he’s already got two assists and some impressive defensive plays to show for it.
Above all, you know he wants his team to win, however that is achieved. You just - a bit selfishly, maybe - want Ben to play a role in that win.
An hour before kick-off, you and Charlotte change into your Chilwell and Mount England NT shirts, respectively, and head down to the Alilianz Arena, home of Bayern Munich.
It’s definitely one of the most massive and electric sporting events you’ve ever been to, including some impressive games hosted at Wembley. The crowd is full of fans from all across Europe, and both English and Italian flags line the stands.
“Oh my god, did you look at the lineup?” Charlotte asks, glancing at her phone as you take your seats with some of the other girls.
You shake your head and she shoves her phone in your hand. Your eyes immediately scan down the list until you see “CHILWELL” in big bold font.
“Oh my god!” you practically shriek. “Ben’s starting!”
“That’s amazing, babe!” Sasha exclaims from beside you, grabbing your arm.
As kick-off approaches, you see the teams make their way out of the tunnel. Seeing Ben stand on the pitch as the national anthem plays, dressed in his England kit, fills you with unimaginable pride.
The next 90-odd minutes are some of the most intense and exhilarating of your life. You’re on the edge of your seat the entire time, jumping up when anything happens.
Kane scores first, followed by an immediate equalizer from Italy. At the end of the first half, the Italian side gets one more past Pickford, which appears to be offside but is ultimately ruled a goal.
At halftime, the mood in the English supporter section is somewhat grim, but you know they can turn this around. They need two goals to win this, and they have an incredibly strong team here.
You send Ben a quick text as Charlotte and Lauren run to grab you some cocktails to take the edge off.
You - 3:52PM Amazing start, babe. You got this second half 💪💕
When the game resumes, the team appears to have been reinvigorated during the break.
England starts strong, retaining possession well and creating some solid chances. You know it’s only a matter of time before they score and level the game.
Then, the most remarkable thing happens.
Ben is running toward the net with the ball, Italy’s defense lagging behind as they attempt to catch up with him. He’s running faster than you’ve ever seen him, obviously looking for an open teammate, and his eyes find Jack from across the pitch. He passes to him with incredible precision, despite the speed he was running at, but Jack doesn’t have a clear shot on goal.
In a split second decision, Jack passes the ball right back to Ben, who volleys it without a second thought.
There’s a brief moment of hesitation as you wait for confirmation of the goal, and then the crowd erupts with cheers.
You jump up in your seat, screaming at the top of your lungs along with thousands of other supporters. You’re pretty sure your boyfriend is the most beloved man in England at the moment, but the moment he realizes it’s a goal, he turns to where he knows you’re sitting and points right at you.
“And it appears Ben Chilwell is dedicating this goal, his first in a major international tournament and his first since returning from injury, to someone special in the England supporter section!” the commentator declares, making you blush as you feel so many eyes on you.
The game continues, and you’re unable to take your eyes off Ben as he continues to dominate on the pitch, their defense like an unbreakable barrier for the Italians.
In the final minutes, Saka scores with an assist from Declan, and the crowd goes wild once more. The final whistle blows, and you all jump up and cheer as England takes the win, advancing them to the final.
You feel like you’re buzzing off much more than the couple of drinks you’ve had as the stadium erupts with cheers and chants from the English fans, the players celebrating enthusiastically on the pitch.
You and the girls rush down to meet them in the changing room, and there’s already music blaring and champagne being sprayed everywhere as you enter. They have a week until the final, so they can let loose a bit tonight.
“Y/N!” Reece exclaims, the first person you see when you walk into the room. “We did it!”
“You did it!” you shout back over the noise, pulling him into a tight hug. “Have you seen-“
“He’s over there,” Reece says with a knowing smile, gesturing to the other side of the room, where Ben is posing for photos with Bukayo and Mason.
The moment Ben sees you, his already wide grin grows impossibly bigger. He drops his arms that were around his teammates and holds them open for you.
You don’t think about the many people watching you, or the fact that they’re all currently recording on their phones, or anything other than running into Ben’s arms and hugging him as tightly as possible.
When you reach him, he catches you and spins you around in the centre of the room, making you laugh into his neck as you squeeze him tight.
“That was incredible!” you say, your voice muffled by his skin as you leave a few kisses there. “That goal, Ben, I-you took my breath away. You’re amazing.”
Ben pulls back and cups your face in both hands, kissing you firmly. Your kiss him back just as fervently, trying to convey every emotion of the past two hours into one touch of your lips.
“Thank you,” are the first words out of Ben’s mouth when he pulls back, staring at you as if you had gone out there and scored all three goals yourself. “I couldn’t have done any of this without you, babe. Seriously.”
You meet his wide, slightly watery eyes, getting lost in them just like you do for hours on end when you lay in bed together, or for a brief moment each time you meet his gaze from across a crowded room.
There were so many times over the past year that you saw nothing but pain in those beautiful blue eyes of his, and all you wanted was to fast forward to this moment - this perfect, glorious moment - when he would be healed and back to achieving his biggest dreams.
Every time you woke up in the middle of the night to find him in pain, clutching his knee, making your heart shatter in a million pieces; every argument you had over what was best for him; every game that he had to watch from the sidelines.
Every setback, every gruelling physio session, every time he wanted to quit but didn’t.
It all led to this - him making a massive impact, securing his team’s place in the Euro final and giving them the chance to make history.
“Baby, why are you crying?” Ben asks softly, and you snap out of your train of thought to find him caressing your face and wiping away the tears that have started falling from your cheeks.
“I’m just so proud of you,” you choke out, smiling through your tears. “I knew you could do it.”
“Thank you for believing in me,” he says, pressing a kiss to your forehead, followed by a few more to your cheeks and lips. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too,” you breathe, pulling him into another tight hug - partly because you want to feel his warmth all around you again, and partly so you can hide your tears in his shoulder. You’ve had enough of being totally emotionally vulnerable in front of thirty other people for one night.
-
A couple of hours later, you’re still partying with everyone at a club near your hotel, celebrating the win while also ensuring the boys drink enough water and don’t get too out of control. You know Southgate will be thanking you for that tomorrow when they show up to training with hopefully not too much of a hangover.
Ben is definitely feeling a buzz after just a few drinks, though, especially after having not really drank at all since they’ve been in Germany. He’s even touchier than usual, constantly keeping an arm around you or his hand in yours as you walk around chatting with his teammates and their girlfriends.
Eventually, you two end up in the corner of a booth squished between Jack Grealish and James Maddison, watching with amusement as Mason and Declan attempt Wonderwall on karaoke.
Everyone is laughing and documenting it, but Ben is fairly focused on you in his lap, his thumb stroking the exposed skin between your shirt - with his name on the back, which is definitely getting him going - and your jeans.
He’s pressing kisses to your neck every once in a while, sending shivers up your spine and making you wonder how obvious it would be if you two disappeared to the bathroom for a few minutes.
“Oi, look who went viral,” Madders chuckles, sliding his phone over to you and Ben.
You’re not sure who posted it first, but the video of you leaping into Ben’s arms in the changing room seems to have gained millions of views already.
“Oh, god,” you groan, rolling your eyes. “Our families are gonna see me making out with you.”
“Worth it,” Ben laughs, kissing your shoulder. “It’s a cute video, to be fair.”
You giggle as Ben begins to trail his kisses up your neck, not hesitating to show you affection even amongst all his teammates. You love seeing him in this great of a mood, riding on the high of his performance today, which earned him his first Player of the Match award for England.
“Have I told you how proud I am of you?” you murmur in his ear, pressing your lips to his temple.
“Yeah, you’ve mentioned it,” Ben jokes, squeezing your thigh - you’ve probably told him about ten times since you left the stadium, not to mention the thousands of times you’ve repeated the words to him throughout his recovery.
“Well, then,” you smirk, shifting your weight on his lap so that you run against his crotch just enough to drive him crazy. “Want me to show you?”
Ben’s eyes darken as they look into yours, seeing just how serious you are. It’s almost comical how quickly he shoves Madders out of the way so the two of you can escape the booth.
“Going to celebrate the win, Chilly?” Jack asks teasingly, slinging his arm around Sasha as he sips his beer.
“Yes, we are,” you say smugly, taking Ben’s hand in yours. “We’ll see you all at breakfast. Maybe.”
The guys all laugh at your unusually brazen comments, but Ben just tugs on your hand like an impatient child, clearly ready to go back to your room.
“Night, boys,” Ben says, already looking toward the door, and you laugh as you’re dragged along with him.
Within fifteen minutes, you’re making out in the elevator on the way up to your room, and within twenty, all of your clothes are off and you’re riding him on the king-sized bed as he moans into your mouth.
“So good,” Ben groans, his fingers digging into your hips as they roll over his. “Fuck, baby, you’re so amazing.”
“You’re amazing,” you sigh, pushing down on his shoulders for leverage as you try to thrust him deeper inside you. “You’re so good, Ben. So strong. You feel so good inside me.”
He grips your hips even tighter and thrusts upward into you, making you cry out in pleasure as he increases the speed and intensity.
You knew it would be good, but this is one of the best times you’ve ever had - and you and Ben have had some great ones. Every touch feels like an electric shock to your system, every kiss is like a drug, and every pump inside you makes you feel like you’re ascending to another plane of existence.
“I love you,” Ben groans, and you can feel him getting close as you approach your own climax.
“I love y-oh!”
You cry out in pleasure as you crumple over him in your release, your body relaxing against his.
Ben holds you close for a moment, pressing soft kisses to your shoulder as you ride out the orgasm, still joined together.
“You good, love?” he asks in a breathy whisper.
He waits for your nod of consent before moving you onto your sides carefully and thrusting into you a few more times. He moans into the crook of your neck as he comes, finally collapsing against the mattress.
You lay there, both breathing heavily, for a moment before meeting each other’s eyes. A wide smile spreads across Ben’s face as he looks at you, sheer adoration in his eyes despite the fact that you’re sure you look like a mess right now, your hair tangled and your makeup smudged.
“That was the best thing that happened to me today, and the bar was really fucking high,” Ben laughs, wrapping his arms around you and tugging you closer.
You laugh into his chest, nuzzling your nose against his warm and slightly sweaty skin, pressing a kiss there.
“I need a shower,” you mumble into his skin - after a few hours in a crowded football stadium, then in a locker room full of sweaty men, followed by a night club, you’re definitely in need of one.
“Me too,” Ben smiles, although he showered after the match. “Let’s go.”
Eager for more already, you don’t argue when he follows you into the shower.
Regardless of what happens in the final, he’s your champion, and you’re going to treat him as such.

AMBER RESTARTS X FROM ITALY After a long silence, Amber Heard returns with a film, presented at the Taormina Film Festival. At the center of the plot is a woman who is not believed. Just as it happened to her, who narrated domestic violence and was the subject of a hate campaign during the trial pitting her against ex Johnny Depp, triumphantly welcomed at Cannes only a short time ago By Enrica Brocardo
A little more than a year after the end of the defamation trial that had seen Amber Heard and ex-husband Johnny Depp confront each other in the courtroom in Fair- fax, Virginia, and ended with the star's victory, the actress chose the Taormina film festival for her first public appearance. Her new film, In the Fire, or In the Fire, premiered June 24, accompanied by Heard, who walked the red carpet that evening. Last May, on the other hand, it had been Johnny Depp's turn to indulge in a crowd at the Cannes Film Festival, where Jeanne du Barry - The King's Favorite, in which he plays France's King Louis XV, had been chosen as the opening film. Awaiting him was a winner-take-all reception, where it was the seven-minute standing ovation at the screening rather than sympathy for Amber that weighed in. Yet this collective takedown somewhat contrasts with the entire court story, which actually ended in a draw of sorts. It is true that, in America, she was found guilty of defamation for an editorial she wrote in 2018 in The Washington Post newspaper in which she spoke about the harassment and violence she had suffered (but never mentioned her ex-husband's name). But it is also true that Depp had lost his previous lawsuit against the British newspaper The Sun, which, again in 2018, called him a "wife beater." Many wondered why two such similar prosecutions could end with two opposing verdicts. One of the reasons, according to an analysis by British lawyer specializing in Media Law Mark Stephens, is that while in Britain the decision was made by a judge, in the United States it was a people's jury that convicted Heard. "It reflected the judgment already made by the public opinion, which, from the very beginning of the trial, had stood up for Depp," the expert explained. Another reason would be that the judge in the trial against the Sun had defused the strategy of the plaintiff's lawyers, namely to prove that Heard had lied on a few occasions in order to undermine his credibility, and had focused rather on the evidence of the incidents of violence against his wife. In Fairfax, conversely, Depp's lawyers had a free hand in discrediting Heard. Moreover, not only in the eyes of the jury, but of the world inter- not because the trial aired live on the web, resulting in a hate campaign against the actress that, a few months later, prompted her to leave Hollywood and move with her 2-year-old daughter Oonagh to live in Spain. Meanwhile, late last year, the two exes reached an agreement whereby she would no longer have to pay over $10 million in compensation, but "only" $1 million, which the actor, in turn, said he would donate to charity. At the same time, alongside the actress, associations against gender violence and feminists lined up with an open letter (see opposite page) also signed a few days ago by French writer Annie Ernaux, who will be awarded the Nobel Prize in 2022. In the Fire, which will hit theaters in the fall, is a supernatural thriller of sorts: the story of a psichiatrist who in the late 1800s is called in to take care of a child that people believe possessed by the devil. She tries to pit science against superstition but, even as a woman, is not believed. A more muted return to the scenes than that of Depp, who also recently signed a contract with a luxury brand. In short, refinding her place in Hollywood, despite the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom next December, promises to be more complicated for Heard. [ The open letter supporting Amber can be read here. ]

That (Other) Time I was All In
Tumblr media
From this angle it seems like I was farther away, but I assure you I was at least 10 rows closer this time XD
Another All In is in the books and I had the pleasure of attending it again. I promised myself last year that if I was gonna come back it'd only be under 2 requirements; I'd get closer seats and the card had to sell it to me this time. And for the second consecutive year AEW delivered massively.
I'll discuss more below, not a lot of action pictures I'm afraid they all came out blurry.
Also Spoilers for All In 2024 if you don't already know the results
So there are two things to talk about, one is the show (split into before and during) and the other is travel, so I'm just gonna rant about both in case anyone else thinks about going to Wembley in 2026 (or next year if Forbidden Door is at Wembley, they only say London right now).
Travel to and from Wembley
Okay for starters, travelling during a train strike is rough. I get why they picked a bank holiday weekend but what was initially a 45 min to 1 hour train to King's Cross turned into a 2 hour journey, having to take a bus to Bedford and then a train with a bunch of stops, including Luton Airport, to London
Premier Inn needs to update its info because the website said I could check in for free after 11am and the desk said 3pm, I didn't want to leave my bags in there for an extra £10...which bit me in the ass.
Don't make the mistake I made on consecutive years and come off at the wrong Wembley station. There are 3 of them and 2 are quite a walk away from the stadium compared to the one right outside of it. My mood was already tense since my travel had been up to 3 hours at that point but also again the turnstiles swallowed up the ticket I was also gonna use to get back, meaning I paid extra on the way back. Go to Wembley Park, it's on the Circle Line, you can get there via Baker Street too.
Bring as little as possible to the stadium, they think they're fucking airport security and overestimate how many view their website when getting tickets via ticketmaster. When I made it to the stadium I was stopped at the steps, being told that my bag was too big to bring in, and I'd have to pay £10 to put it in a bag holding area - which was a fair walk away from the stadium too. So either way I was forking out cash
Then after hours of waiting, queuing and getting into the stadium I was told that my drinks bottle I had brought from home couldn't be brought in, even when empty, because it was 'too big and could be thrown at someone'. I protested, since they're not gonna reimburse me for forcing me to discard my belongings and were insisting that I go back to the bag holding to put away a plastic drink bottle I took with me last year, but they treated me like I was gonna throw hands - and insisted that the info was on the Wembley website - so I threw it away to placate them. Still a drinks bottle can't get in but you can bring your phone and keys - both of which can equally be thrown to deal even more damage, I'm sure my shoe could do worse too. Just a con to squeeze more money out of you.
Premier Inn has cosy rooms, but I don't like any lights being on, so having a TV always on standby on the wall opposite and a smoke alarm blinking above me was just added nuisance to my aching body and natural difficulty in sleeping, also there's no toothpaste, you can buy some but it seems to be the only thing that doesn't come with the room (and a toothbrush but I brought my own expecting that). Breakfast was nice though.
Before the Show
Despite my travel woes there was some caveats before the Zero Hour began. For one I cross paths with Cultaholic again, they weren't asking questions but they were doing a punishment bit, so I followed behind watching but also trying not to intercept. I shook Tom Campbell's hand though.
After seeing Emi Sakura and Lulu last year I did keep my eyes open for other wrestlers arriving to Wembley, and I did spot another, this time someone on the card (really wanted Emi on this card). Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo were too far for me to approach - they were carrying their kid too so it wouldn't have been appropriate - tbh I spotted Tay before I spotted Sammy, in spite of his sky blue suit and haircut.
Tumblr media
This was how close I was to the ring, and upon getting to my seat I was met with an interesting surprise too, a padded chair and a note...
Tumblr media
So you know all that above nonsense about not being allowed to bring in a drinks bottle because you might throw it and hurt someone? Well they let me leave the stadium with a fucking steel chair, how's that for hypocrisy?
I wasn't expecting to take home the chair, I knew it was a thing for VIP tickets but my ticket never said it was a VIP one. Not easy to carry around mind you and I gotta find a place to put it now...
When soaking in the area I also spotted Lexy Nair and Alicia Atout in their sparkly dresses making their way around to the ramp for the Zero Hour.
Unfortunately we still don't get video coverage of the Zero Hour outside of matches, you hear a few interviews and maybe the screen shows some footage but that's about it, which is a shame.
Lots of fans didn't find their seats until midway after the Zero Hour, and a lot of them liked to move around, get drinks between each match and all that, which could get annoying. Not as many signs in my way though and since I had a bit of space beside me I could shuffle a little bit to the far side for more space. You'll always get the contrarian chanters too, the ones who cheer the heels.
Close seats are great for in-ring wrestling, not so much everywhere else. I understand that wrestlers want fans from all seats to get a look at the action but yeah, even on the barricade it's covered by a swarm of bodies trying to get a look, or get on tv.
Tumblr media
My position had the added benefit of having a good view of the rampway, the place where most wrestlers would stop to get the on-ramp camera was within my eyeshot.
The Show itself
Fans love the commentary btw, Daddy Magic and Schiavone got a lot of love and gave it back too.
Zero Hour was fun, the first multi-man was a bit of a potluck of faces and heels. Private Party came out as faces but then Ari Davari comes out with them? Still match was a lot of fun; Lio and Satnam, Kip getting a massive pop from the crowd, Top Flight going nuts, Kyle being badass, glad Dark Order got to show up too they mentioned it was on their list for the year. Dante and Kyle threw their shades and elbow pad into the crowd too.
Mixed Tag was funny as hell too, Stoke knows his role, liked that Statlander got to wrestle Ishii a bit too. You can't hear me but I do shout 'you're wearing him down!' to Stoke when he's trying to shoulder barge Ishii.
The big 10 man was alright, we all loved Dustin and Shibata, we were still unsure with Sammy but we rallied at the Von Erich's urging. The aftermath with the Claw was better, the botch on Shibata with the throwing powerbomb did make us a little worried.
Jamie Hayter coming back was a huge pop, I was hoping Emi was gonna show up since I expected Hayter for the TBS title match but it's great she's back.
Ladder match was great. Tables didn't really comply a lot in the match but we loved the effort and the narrative and PAC. The image is smaller but you can see me stand up the moment he kicks Christian off the ladder realising he's gonna take it. Great opening surprise win.
Then to hit us with the story-charged women's title bout of Mariah vs Toni. We were in full song for that one, it's hard to gauge the crowd noise when you're so close but you can hear the echoing for the Toni Storm sang in the tune of Daddy Cool chant. Right woman went over too, very strong match.
I kinda feel bad about how effortlessly we the crowd derailed the FTW title match by following Cardiff's lead and cheering for Big Bill XD HOOK and Jericho put on a fine match (cricket balls were dubious though this ain't the Oval) and Tazz showing up was great, but it was a lull in the show. The people around me at least chuckled at my 'He can see! It's a miracle!' when HOOK took his patch off.
It was difficult to gauge the Tag Title match too because we chanted hard for FTR and the Acclaimed during their entrances but they were also at each other's throats. Didn't like the CM Punk chants, it's fucking unnecessary let it go. I knew Sgt Pepper's Young Bucks would win but it did feel like it could've gone another gear.
Grizzled Young Vets walked RIGHT PAST ME! I barely even noticed until I clocked that it was Zack Gibson. Attacking FTR was on brand but it did make the cheering fall to uncertainty, but this is a fresh team to enter the picture.
If I had a nickel for every time Christian Cage did double duty to swerve us all...well I'd wonder why you're giving me nickels we don't use them here. The Casino Gauntlet was a lot of fun, we expected Ricochet but Okada, ZSJ, and Nigel McGuinness coming out of retirement were all big surprises, Jarrett getting cheered like a babyface and cracking Hangman with a guitar, OC with the Mr Bean intro too! But Luchasaurus with the bait and Killswitch, goddammit! He can't keep getting away with this!
MJF/Ospreay was a cream of the crop kinda match. We knew the story would be Max absorbing all of Ospreay's arsenal but it came down to who would be eating the Tiger Driver 97? I dunno if I'm in shot when Max soaked in our corner to a parade of middle fingers but I did tell him his country sucked (had he returned to the corner more beaten I'd have made a healthcare jab). We were all for Ospreay though, thought it was Adam Cole with the intercept first but glad it was Garcia, great match.
The TBS title match was hard to gauge as well, it felt like the crowd was drained a little from the previous match, or just the more misogynist part of the crowd leaving to skip it. There was nothing wrong with the match itself, Moné's entrance was great and that reverse super powerslam from Britt was creative. We tried to will the chants of CEO and DMD but the ending did feel abrupt. Still another correct outcome but I feel like Hayter's return could've been utilized better here.
The TNT Coffin match felt like a sprint. Honestly though even though I couldn't see much of it given how little of it was in the ring I appreciated how Jack approached the match. The real glass and soaking in the boos (Cry Me a River chants are acceptable, 'Fuck CM Punk' chants were not) were great but I particularly loved the storytelling that Jack knew he couldn't outdo Darby in violence so worked to subdue instead, essentially hogtying him to get him in the coffin.
Sting coming back was rumored but still amazing, can't believe I've seen Sting on 2 consecutive AEW shows. I hope narratively we use this loss and outwitting as a way for Sting to coach Darby into trying to find his edge again for his upcoming world title shot.
And well, what can you say about the Main Event? It was the only one I couldn't call down the middle, we were either seeing the end of Bryan Danielson or we were seeing him win his last world title of his full time career. The noise I'm sure was incredible for the Final Countdown, but at ringside it was godly.
So much props to Swerve too, he knew exactly when to heel it up enough with the ring bell and the stomping in front of Bryan's family - a focal point of the match's storytelling - plus with Hangman's surprise distraction we may end up doing a second double turn from this. He was a great world champion, extremely crisp in the ring, and absorbing the Buisaku Knee like an anime villain was a great touch.
But the night belonged to the best fucking wrestler in the world Bryan Danielson. The YES chants are infectious, he pulls off the babyface in peril so well, the constant looking and reaching for his family for strength as well is just chef's kiss. And in a chorale of 50k fans demanding Swerve tap was only droned out by the immense cheer of when he did. My throat is hoarse, my hands and feet are sore, but I left the show happy - albeit in a massive queue for my bags while carrying a steel chair XD
Fortunately the queuing didn't cause me to miss all of Whatculture's live ppv Ups and Downs. I could hear him talking about the TNT title match but it was still hard to hear, didn't help that two guys were arguing in front of me because one was protesting that he hadn't consecutively been rubbing up against his girlfriend and took umbrage with being told to give each other space to avoid it happening again, another guy chiming in with 'it doesn't matter how she feels' when asking for an apology annoyed me too because it fucking does! Both parties left separately a few moments later so I got closer and was able to partly hear more. Then I carried my ass to the hotel and came home the following morning.
All In All (pun intended), another fantastic show of wrestling. Travel and external factors had threatened to dampen my experience but it was great nonetheless. I doubt I'll go to Texas but maybe 2026 I'll run it back again. In the meantime we'll simply soak in the joys of multiple debuts, returns, title changes and Bryan Danielson as a World Champion again.

thoughts on HOTD episode 1, season 2 (spoilers below)
it's my understanding that a lot of people are mad that more of the episode was not devoted to Jace wooing Cregan Stark and Jeyne Arryn, but in terms of pacing, I don't think that would be the best choice. we've seen Cregan, we know he will appear in future scenes, we know Jeyne Arryn has been casted. we don't need to spend that long with them in the season premiere. spending a good 15/20 minutes of the episode just on Jace's negotiations would massively stunt the audience's interest in seeing Rhaenyra and Team Black's reactions to Luke's demise. and if they opened with that, and then went onto Jace's negotiations, it would feel weird to see Jace behaving so normally after just finding out that his brother was killed, and if he hadn't found out yet, it would bloat the episode even more by then having to do two separate sequences of people reacting to Luke's demise.
i'm not offended or upset they decided to make Alicent and Criston have a sexual relationship. personally, i would prefer if they kept it almost obsessively 'chaste' while making it clear both of them want more but will not initiate due to combined shame, repression, and an idealized vision of one another. HOWEVER, i think opening on Criston eating her out with was a stupid move that doesn't carry the emotional weight they intended, because it's complete whiplash from where they left off with them last season. they didn't build up to it at all, so it feels awkward and almost like it's being played for comedic effect. this is only compounded later with the tonal whiplash of Blood & Cheese's hijinks leading directly into yet another sex scene.
i think the episode does a good job showing how eager Aegon is to please as king- and the easiest people to please are the smallfolk. this is not because Aegon is naturally kind and compassionate or cares about protecting his 'lessers', but because he craves approval and praise. whatever the reason, his impulse shows how contrary the actual act of ruling is to benevolence and mercy. feudalism is bloody work that depends on a subjugated, frightened smallfolk, no matter the intentions of the ruler who claims the throne, they will inevitably be ground underfoot in order for their king or queen to consolidate power and maintain the success of his or her heirs.
so here's my thing with Blood & Cheese. it is very, very obvious Daemon is not convinced his assassins could actually subdue and kill Aemond. he is clearly hoping to just kill any Targaryen in the Red Keep they can get their hands on. so I don't know if I agree with the criticism that 'this absolves Daemon of any responsibility'. however, I do understand the critique that the ensuing plot plays out like a comedy of errors, which contributes even more to the tonal whiplash of the episode. it feels like the writers were eager to get this out of the way fast and not to linger on the horror and gore of it, and i understand the impulse to avoid seeming exploitative and to protect the child actors involved. that said, i think the scene itself would feel far more meaningful had we ever seen Helaena interact with either of her children beyond a few seconds in the background, and as a result it just feels a bit half-baked and rushed in execution. and i'm not thrilled with the larger pattern of repeated accidents/mishaps. Alicent misunderstanding Viserys' deathbed wish, Aemond losing control of Vhagar, Blood & Cheese fumbling the assassination- any of these would be fine individually, but taken altogether i do think they degrade the writing of the show and take away character autonomy.
overall i'd give the episode a 7/10. i disagree with the fans claiming it was horrible and a massive disappointment, but i don't think it was fantastic, either. a decent start to the season either way.

While most of The Evil Dead's 40th anniversary festivities took place two years ago, as it premiered on October 15, 1981 at at Detroit's Redford Theatre, the film didn't officially open theatrically until April 15, 1983.
A surprise success thanks in part to a rave review from Stephen King ("The most ferociously original horror film of the year" was plastered all over the marketing), the cult classic spawned a franchise: Evil Dead II in 1987, Army of Darkness in 1992, the Evil Dead reboot in 2013, and the Ash vs. Evil Dead series from 2015 to 2018, along with video games, comic books, a musical, and a myriad of merchandise.
As a serendipitous treat for fans, the latest installment in the beloved series is releasing almost exactly 40 years after the original. Following a much-buzzed-about premiere at South by Southwest last month, get your chainsaws ready for Evil Dead Rise to hit theaters on April 21 via Warner Bros.
Lee Cronin, who made an impressive feature debut with 2019's The Hole in the Ground, writes and directs. Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, and Nell Fisher star. The Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi, star Bruce Campbell, and producer Rob Tapert serve as producers.
The Evil Dead franchise is unique in that each entry is tonally different, and fans' ranking of the installments are all over the place as a result. I'm eager to see where Evil Dead Rise lands on my personal list following the advance screening Broke Horror Fan is sponsoring in Boston next week.
Although I enjoy each installment for different reasons, my current ranking is as follows:
The Evil Dead
Evil Dead II
Ash vs. Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2003
Army of Darkness
youtube
Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, Evil Dead Rise tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

solrosan's fandom year 2023
Wow, we're doing this late this year!
Because of ReasonsTM, this year has been pretty low on fannish activities, but there are still some things to sum up!
2023 was the year that I…
…stepped down as an OTW Translation volunteer (because of ReasonsTM)
…started a tag that people say they smile/giggle at every time they see
…set my own NaNoWriMo goal at 6000 words and reached 13113!
…unfollowed and refollowed Neil Gaiman more times that I care to remember due to Tumblr being its usual bitchy self (yes, this was related to the Good Omens’ premiere).
…used a free trial on Amazon Prime (also related to Good Omens)
…bought my mum a Christmas present from her current fandom
…realised my April Fool’s joke backfired hard
…gave into bandom
…almost allowed myself to become a kpop blog for real
…spent so many nights watching concert videos
(…actually watched so much INFINITE on YouTube that their algorithm has run out of content to show me)
…fell in love with Richard Armitage and his singing voice
…realised Spotify wraps funny due to the point above
…finally named a very important OC
…found my portable HD again
…had the intention to do Whumpril
…honestly believed I’d finish THE femslash fic
…started posting old fics
...watched more TV than I think I ever have
...can't remember a single thing I watched
(...except Good Omens, Bloodhounds, season 2 of D.P., Moving, and half of the last The Crown season)
...finally moved into the cabin with @elletromil and @insanereddragon (or at least renamed the chat after the day dream)
Stats:
I posted 7 955 words on AO3
They were split over four works
One is new, three are reworked and posted
All of them are in The King: Eternal Monarch
The engagement with them are so low that I won't do a most hits/comment/kudosed
This is the tumblr post with most notes from 2023
(It's also my main project this year, I'm very pleased with the result so far. Still a WIP though.)
Lastly, a huge thank you to everyone who I've talked to this year! You've kept me sane and you've kept me connected to myself. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm so sorry if you feel like I've drifted off.
Special shout out to @blau-s and all our discussions about our little AUs. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for listening! We will finish them one day! (Right?)

Okay, who wants some Rad headcanons?
As we know 'Rad Profit Danger Trouble Dudesman is his real name, but it is also the one his mother gave him
Well, mostly. His first and middle names are direct translation as a result of her using actual proper 'in use' words, his last name was treated similarly despite this not being the case. It's a pretty good translation into English though. Originally, way back in the olden days, it denoted somebody who was a farmhand by trade and as a result is fairly common within his culture. Sort've their equivalent of having the last name 'Smith'
He's the only child of a single mother, which is very much a particular cultural choice, not a bad one but a specific one
Rad grew up on an old, rather rundown station orbiting his species' homeworld that wasn't exactly considered a great place to raise a family, but wasn't so bad you could point to it and go 'well of course he turned out how he did, look at all that'. Bad neighborhood, but not 'he turned to mercenary work to survive' levels
Really he grew up rather middle of the road for the area as far as circumstances- not especially poor, not especially well-off, wasn't part of any gangs or anything but had himself a record, mom's work was all above board... Very middleground for the station. He wasn't pushed into going into the blackmarket-and-violence business
Though his mother would have preferred he not go into that business in the first place (he could've been a mechanic, he could've been a freight driver, he could've been tester for a weapons manufacturer, but no, he needed adventure in his life) she is very proud of his accomplishments. About as soon as he hit sixteen her baby grabbed up the money she'd saved to maybe get him some extra schooling, bought a rundown ship, and became the best mercenary in their chunk of the galaxy. She brags about him at work
They're very close, actually, and he makes sure to both visit her and call regularly, alongside sending presents
He's always been more of a loner type, didn't have many friends as a child and as an adult still has primarily associates, something not helped by his temper and aggressive tendencies. He prefers to work alone, and is easily burned out by 'coworkers'
All of that also has not helped his love life over the years, though he's not especially fussed about it
The Lovely Duck is not his first ship, it is his third. Pyxi, though, originally came with his second ship. He stripped her out when he upgraded, having gotten attached and very used to having her.
First ship was purchased then sold as scrap, second ship was... commandeered while on a job before selling the now unneeded first ship, the Lovely Duck was purchased on a whim because he liked the bow, with the earnings from his most famous job.
That job also resulted in Rad gaining his rank. Our not-duck, while not the only mercenary- both lone wolf and as part of companies- hired as extra muscle, was the premiere player in a civil war in which he personally took out the opposing 'ruler' and their court with extreme prejudice, alongside their security detail, while having the sense to ensure they would still be readily identifiable. The new king was very grateful, and granted him a high rank in his army as a 'please don't take another job in this system' bonus. Rad was 19 at the time
Technically he could still go out there and push for the benefits that come with said rank, but he's not fool enough to push his luck and also really just doesn't care. He got to destroy some shit, paid, and a title his mom can flaunt to her coworkers, that's enough for him
Passenger accommodations on the Lovely Duck are relatively bare bones (helps to keep people from wanting to hang around) but Rad's own quarters are relatively comfortable. Not particularly large in and of themselves, but better than what other folks get. Fucker lives there, he's gonna be comfy
And he does live in his ship, the vast majority of the time even when staying in a location long-term he prefers to sleep onboard if at all possible. There are few exceptions to this rule, including when he goes home for visits, in which case he prefers to sleep in his old bedroom
He's received many awards for marksmanship over the years, and a few actual medals for his involvement in conflicts. All of these have been sent back to his mother, who had no space to display them in her tiny apartment and so sent them on to her mother, who has the medals in a box and the awards hung up with pictures of her other grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Worldbuilding Soljoro
Soljoro is the largest nation on Corsova 3, dominating a little over half of the continent Numaria, which it shares with its rival nation Insturi. Soljoro and Insturi are the locales of principle action in the series.
Soljoro is majority human and has a population of about 40 million people. Insturi is majority Fae and has about 27 million.
Originally called Nulor until the end of the 3rd Epoch, when the dynasty of the Tols came to an end, it became a constitutional Republic and has lasted about 900 years.
Its government is representative democracy governed by the Charter of Rights and Duties enumerating what rights citizens have. Currently most people are unofficially considered citizens but only property owners who are cis male can vote. But the question of citizenship is not resolved. It will take a social movement to reform the Charter and expand the franchise.
Every five years a Premier is elected by eligible voters to serve as the executive. The Premier presides over the Soljoran military and the Assembly, which is made up of 45 members, each of whom are elected on a 3 year term.
The political process is aided by an unelected group called the Order of the Wise. Originally advisors to the Tols, they were exposed as having been founded by the (now extinct) cult of the Drach-Noz, servants of the defeated Fellwraith under the reign of the last of the Tols, Tol Aranon. Purged, reformed, and reorganized, they now help study proposed laws and determine their effects.
Another powerful group involved in politics is the central bank of Soljoro, a private institution called the High Bank of Rel. Their lobbiests bribe elected Publicans in the Assembly and generally work in the interests of itself, profit, and the wealthy houses.
Soljoro is also home of Tem Sharis, the mysterious compound of the Artificer Collective. The Collective is a secretive, isolationist group of spell-weavers who are officially neutral on Soljoran policy, but this is not universally held. Publicans are eager for advice from the Collective, which is believed to be able to predict the future, and at times they will intervene if a bill or crisis is dangerous or severe enough. The compound comprises the Collective's housing, research facility, and Artificing workshop. The Collective has majtech far in advance of the rest of Soljoro, thanks to the Mindlink. The Mindlink is a space of larger collective consciousness created by the link between each individual consciousness; once Integrated you cannot disconnect, but you also do not lose your individuality. Rather, your baseline knowledge is elevated to the best current collective understanding of the Collective. If you knew nothing about the piano but joined the Mindlink, you would gain intimate knowledge of the best skilled piano talents in the Collective and know how to play it as well as them, and as you play you integrate it by developing your own personal style which is then added to the Collective.
Socially, Soljoro is divided into several classes. The upper class are eligible to vote in elections, and are organized in a hierarchy of wealth and prestige. The pinnicle of the pecking order are the Seven Houses, the wealthiest and most powerful of the elite, the last remaining intact descendants of the 12 founding Lords houses who served the Tol dynasty.
After the switch to a republic the Seven attempted a coup to overthrow the Premier and the Assembly and restore the monarchy, provoking the Wars of the Merchant Kings. Ultimately they lost and the Republic stripped them of their titles of nobility to forestall a popular revolution, which the Seven have never forgiven. They have spent the last three hundred years intermarrying with the rising merchant class to unify their position and move into the trades business. This has resulted in a monopoly of several merchant guilds. The two which control the vast majority of the market are the East Wind Free Trade Consortium (EWFTC) and its primary competitor, the Syndicate of Mercantile Ventures (SMV).
The Seven haven't given up on restoring the monarchy. They continue the search for a rumored heir of the Tols that had survived down to the present time, and report to one another at an occasional meeting at the manor of House Tullis, the oldest and richest of them all.
Beneath the Seven and the EWFTC and SMV and the High Bank of Rel, there are the middle class merchants and their families. Their style is a fantasy steampunk version of Victorian London wear.
Below them are the ordinary people, who subsist at the level of peasants just before the French Revolution. They work in the factories and shops and do odd jobs for a little extra cash. A large disabled population, including children (victims of child labor) mangled in the factory machines beg for food and coin, or if they can still do some limited work, go to the Skyport or the riverdock called the Whorl to load and unload luggage and supplies.
At the time of the series, Soljoro has become badly corrupted and the Assembly seems unable to do anything. Reforms have ground to a halt against three decades of sustained backlash and rollback, and the High Court is stacked with cronies of the Seven. As one wit has it, "the old is dying, and the new cannot be born." That is the crisis.
People feel stuck and the nation seems on the verge of riots and possibly revolt from below. A religious revival sweeps over the poor, drawing them into the wealthy arms of the Constellation, the established religion that worships the Twelve (heroes who saved the world in the past) and the One (the high god Anistaru). A populist nationalism is growing bolder and more violent, clammoring to retake the land Soljoro gave to the Insturins long ago to rebuild their own civilization. A civilization that now rivals and threatens to overtake Soljoro as the power on the continent.

Tumblr media
(Written by Rhayniel Saldasal Calimpong / Freelanced News Writer, Reporter and News Presenter of OneNETnews)
TOKYO, JAPAN -- A dating LGBT-based simulator turned out realistic during the anime taping from a series premiere of "I'm in Love with the Villainess" last Sunday (October 1st, 2023 -- Japan local time), a day before the actual televised airing by Monday.
Tumblr media
(SCREENGRAB COURTESY: King Amusement Creatives and Tokyo MX / from left to right, Claire François and Rei Oohashi Taylor are in talks during the Royal Academy class)
One small business and her employee in the said country named Rei Oohashi Taylor transported in her sleep thru the Royal Academy classroom before facing the antagonist individual (Claire François) and her potential parent-daughter of Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière, from a classic anime TV show "The Familiar of Zero".
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Two high school students taking 3 exams, along with the start of Episode in Revolution's fictional Playstation 5 CD cover photo)
After taking three exams between Claire and Rei to start off Episode 1, there is a sketchiest but rarely the official final result which futherly released from the Royal Academy officials via Otome dating simulator game called "Revolution" via the fictional PlayStation 5 console.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Official and final results obtained exclusively via Tokyo MX News, with a press release permission in-charge at the Royal Academy)
JOMX-TV 9's Tokyo MX News obtained the said official final result starting off with General Curriculum Exam: Rod Bauer won 1st Place with 100 points, Yu Bauer in 2nd Place with 98 points, and Rei Oohashi Taylor drops the same points score of 98 in 3rd Place. And finally in Magic Ability exam section, Sophie (not an actual real name) did not reveal a point score ranked 3rd Place, while Misha Jur amps up to 98 points in 2nd Place. Lastly, it all comes down to this… Rei Oohashi Taylor wins the Magic Ability Exam, which leaves into the immeasurable point's score ranked in 1st Place declaring a first winner high school student to start-off the academic year 2023-2024 in Bauer Kingdom.
Tumblr media
Overall, on both individuals from our Data Analytics Team of OneNETnews, 86.5% goes to Rei Oohashi Taylor and Claire François ends with 94.7% -- per the academic compilation survey in all examination scores (excluding the entire disclosed and miscellaneous scoring reasons). The officials of the Royal Academy in Bauer Kingdom have congratulated to Rei by making history the immeasurable magic ability, following a major defeat against Claire.
OneNETnews understands the situation of the official and final results revealing the first 3 exams released the said academic officials. It is more skeptical to their female high school students despite the issues of lesbianism, romance and even bullying in the Isekai anime industry.

Conquest of Cuteness Review
“Conquest of Cuteness” is the least impactful and most mundane season premiere Adventure Time has ever put out. The last two season premieres weren’t part of some grand season arc either, but “It Came From the Nightosphere” pushed the series to new heights. “Slumber Party Panic” obviously introduced a lot of key components of the series, and we’re pretty close to its sequel episode. The plot of this season premiere, and the characters it introduces, don’t ever get further explored. This is as standalone as an episode gets for Adventure Time, even more standalone than most season three episodes. It could have aired during any part of the season. Adventure Time isn’t promising a big overarching story yet, so it’s not a big deal. But, after how good last season’s premiere was, and given the cliffhanger from “Mortal Recoil”, the season certainly could have had a stronger start. Judging it as a normal episode, it’s really good! Which is all it really needs to be at this part of the series.
The opening scene is very cute, I love it when episodes start with Finn and Jake just singing a silly little song. Pretty good introductory scene to the season, just reestablishing what our boys are all about. The everything burrito is a pretty well known iconography from the series, and is the first of many times we see Jake enjoying a bizarre combination of foods. We meet the Cute People. They’re impossible to take seriously, with Finn and Jake happily posing for BMO’s camera with them, ignoring their threats of evil.
Jake is worried about the Cuties, thinking they poisoned his burrito. As Finn comforts him, Jake tells him that he reminds him of Margaret. We haven’t seen Finn and Jake casually mention their parents much, but it’s nice to see that they’re on their minds. It’s also cool to see Jake viewing Finn as a source for comfort, as opposed to the other way around, for once. They are woken up by the intruding cute people, who are holding Jake’s sword from “Tree Trunks”. I like that Finn and Jake are now on the same page about the cute people being a nuisance, instead of arguing the entire episode. The cuties taunt them by pretending to be Margaret’s ghost. It was already obvious, but this is the first hard confirmation of at least one of their parent’s death. We’re getting just a little light shed on Finn and Jake’s early childhoods.
The cute people charge towards the treehouse in the morning, but all end up tripping over, exploding, or my favorite, getting picked up by a duck. I still think this sequence could be more creative and funny, then just most of them falling down and tripping. They are definitely the most incompetent villains Finn and Jake have ever faced, which works when we aren’t supposed to take them seriously. Finn and Jake watch Cute King’s scolding of his men, which results in them all crying, which is very funny. Finn decides they need to lose to them on purpose to get them to stop, which is not something I’m sure Finn would have done in season 1.
I love the transition of Finn saying he’ll call all their friends for an army to a shot of Jake sitting with BMO, Cinnamon Bun, Lumpy Space Princess, and a random duck. Only the dumbest of Finn and Jake’s friends bothered to come. You couldn’t pay Marceline and Bubblegum to give a shit about this. Cinnamon Bun is probably the only person in Ooo who could lose to the cute people, falling over before even any of the cuties manage to. This also gives us the first Cinnamon Bun and LSP interaction. The storyboarding does a good job tricking you into thinking the cute people have formed into a giant monster, only to reveal they are still only two feet tall. Finn dramatically pretending to die as he squirts ketchup everywhere is great, the Cuties too stupid to catch on. Not even Jake can take this shit seriously anymore, he just dances. Adding on to this delightfully bizarre and silly scene, Cinnamon Bun enjoys getting a faceful of ketchup while LSP can’t help but use this as an opportunity to make it about romance and drama, dying from a heartbreak. It’s topped off by Cute King’s iconic victory dance, causing Jake to burst out laughing, revealing their hoax.
Finn causes Cute King to become a true villain, sending him to use his cuteness to control others. Sending him to be Ice King’s problem is a good ending, and he doesn’t seem to mind!
This one has a very simple plot and I like not taking it seriously. I’m just along for the ride of nonstop silliness. There’s a lot of nice smaller moments throughout this one (I love Jake mistaking the blanket for a dead, bloody goat).

The last times Saturn was transiting Pisces :
- between 1935-37 (before ww2, tensions arising)
- between 1964-67 (hippie movement, trying to reject war)

- blues and jazz music were very popular
- Disney premieres "Snow White and the seven dwarves"
- J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy novel “the Hobbit” was published
- Penguin produce the first paperback books
- the book Gone with the Wind is published

- the Voting Rights Act, guaranteeing African Americans the right to vote becomes law
- Gemini Space Program continues, lay the groundwork for an eventual manned mission to the moon
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. leads civil rights march in Alabama
