Terminal City Iron Works, Vancouver

Terminal City Iron Works is a bit unusual when it comes to repeat locations as it was almost more of a back lot than a location. Once upon a time, it was actually an iron works foundry that manufactured fire hydrants and man hole covers. 

When it closed down in the late 90s, film productions started to take advantage of the space. Most notably, Dark Angel (yes, the one that Jensen was in!) came in and developed it extensively into its own Terminal City (if you’ve watched the series, you’ll know they used the name in the show). That production, which incidentally had the same production designer as Supernatural, build numerous facades in the space that made the location almost as much film set as it was a foundry. Those facades remained when Dark Angel ended and made the space desirable as a location that productions could use almost like a back lot for industrial settings. There were large warehouse and factory type spaces, a tunnel that Dark Angel had turned into a sewer set, an office space that played many a police station. And the location was host to literally hundreds of television series and movies. Anything that shot in Vancouver between 2002 and 2014 probably filmed at Terminal City at one time or another. 

Sadly, in 2015 the site was sold and all the sets demolished. The land where it once sat is now home to a modern (and boring) office park. 

I want to preface the SPN specific portion of this post by noting that the episodes I am about to list are the ones that I know of that shot at Terminal City. It is HIGHLY likely that there were even more that filmed there that I’m just not aware of and/or didn’t pick up on because I don't tend to hunt for interiors that are obviously not public.

SPN’s first Terminal City visit was right out of the gate in 1x03 Dead in the Water. That office space I mentioned that played many a police station, was used for, you guessed it, the police station where the boys first meet the sheriff and Andrea and Lucas. 

Production was back again shortly after for all the sewer scenes in 1x06 Skin, using that tunnel that Dark Angel had made into a sewer set. 

In 1x15 The Benders, Terminal City does double duty, first as the site of the first kidnapping (the Tavern sign in the second shot is a notable feature of the Terminal City set). 

And then both the exterior and interior of that office space are back as yet another police station where Dean meets Kathleen. 

John ends up back in the sewer in 1x21 Salvation while trying to thwart Meg and her demon brother. 

In 2x17 Heart, the streets of Terminal City are the site of a werewolf attack. 

2x20 What Is and What Should Never Be sees Dean getting trapped by a djinn in one of the Terminal City warehouses. 

Terminal City again does double duty in 3x07 Fresh Blood, first as the location where the boys find Lucy the vampire. 

And then later both the exterior and interior of the Terminal City buildings are used for the warehouse where the boys track down vampire Gordon. 

In 5x13 The Song Remains the Same, the interiors are used as the warehouse where Cas and Anna meet and the garage where Anna attacks John and Mary. 

In 6x21 Let It Bleed Dean rescues Ben and Lisa from one of the Terminal City warehouses. 

8x12 As Time Goes By uses Terminal City for the final confrontation with Abbadon.

Terminal City is apparently the happening place for djinn to hang out, because they are back in 8x20 Pac-Man Fever, capturing Charlie. 

The last known appearance of Terminal City was in 9x20 Bloodlines, where the gang sneaks in to rescue Violet. (Humorously, at least to me, the exterior of this location is in Chicago, thousands of miles away). 

Unless there was a Season 10 appearance I missed, that most likely is the end of Terminal City’s journey on Supernatural as it was torn down between S10 and S11. Somewhere out there, some lucky fans probably have some great photos of this set because it was one of the stops on a Russ Bus tour in 2009.

I'd just about kill for the canonical backstory on this statement. 2014 Cas was so different, so damaged - so differently damaged to his timeline-equivalent Dean, who's all hard edges and cold purpose. Yet the episode implies they've made the journey together.

What left Endverse!Cas soft and bleak and open and emotionally articulate? Did he crawl through broken glass hell to get here, dragging himself up from nowhere to achieve this level of function and resignation, or has it been a slow, blurry slide from grace into decadence with the bumps softened to meaningless by drugs, booze, and orgies? Why does he package the last one with the 'love guru crap' as if there's still a point to existence, a meaning beyond the moment, then act with Dean (both Deans) as if there isn't? And when did 2014!Dean stop looking at him the way 2009!Dean does?

No historical tragedies or disasters in the area, ectoplasm, or EMF. Dean's only lead was a battered-looking kid that'd been coming to the park every day since it'd all started.

really interesting au fic! slightly ‘it’s a terrible life’. dean winchester is a hunter/EMT and sam wesson is a college kid destined to die on a roller coaster ride.

This is the day that marked the Holy and Blessed Union of Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle.

The merging of prominent bloodlines is always a grand occurrence, but breeding pedigree hunter families like Winchester and Harvelle is something to be rejoiced. It is also something to be meticulously planned, which thankfully the Host is very good at.

Or, the romantic comedy where Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle are destined to get married, Castiel is given the task of playing matchmaker and fails terribly, the entire Heavenly Host becomes a sitcom audience, God warns against male pregnancy, and Jimmy Novak is incredibly unimpressed with angels in general.

somewhat of a fandom classic and the humor holds up wonderfully. a very silly fic completed with commentary from angel radio throughout the entire thing.

the way 2009 dean connects with 2014 dean is by telling the truth about something he would love to deny (enjoying wearing rhonda hurley's panties) but can't. 2009 dean won't deny something that gives him pleasure. but 2014 dean doesn't agree or comment other than "touché."

endverse dean is sleeping around and purposely avoiding connecting to people, even though emotional connection is everything he's ever wanted.

the ages of the occupants in the bunker as of 14.13, listed from youngest to oldest

inspired by this; since 14.09 and 14.10 took place during christmas of 2018, i feel like a good guess for the date of 14.13 is sometime in mid-january 2019, before dean’s birthday. in this meta, biological age refers how old they appear, chronological age refers to how many years on the calendar it’s been since they were born, and for characters who went to hell, i’m also using mental age to refer to the number of years they have actually consciously experienced. (heaven time will not be calculated into mental age, because characters frequently seem unable to remember it beyond a few hazy impressions at best.)

jack kline: 18 years biologically, 1.5 years chronologically - born in may 2017, he would be about a year and a half old chronologically. theoretically his biological age is probably about 18 (or at least that’s what they claimed in season 14 - given that he also says he deliberately came into this world as an adult and that cas seems to think his lifespan will greatly outlast a human being’s, we can assume his biological age was 18 in 2017, and that since humans age normally and angels don’t age at all, jack is aging slowly as a compromise). it’s worth noting that the half a season he spent in apocalypse world accounts for an entire THIRD of his total lifespan so far. he only spent a couple of weeks with cas before stuck, and once he returned dean was taken by michael almost immediately, so he’s also only had his entire family together for about a third of his life, too.

mary winchester: 31 years biologically, 64 years chronologically - mary was born in december of 1954, so when she died in november 1983 she was 28 years old, just a month shy of her 29th birthday. this would have her turning 29 in during season 12, turning 30 during season 13 (in apocalypse world!), and 31 in season 14 - her birthdays for 2016, 2017, and 2018 respectively. since she wasn’t brought back on the same day she died, she did repeat part of a year there at the beginning of season 12, but it was only a few months. as a bonus, if eileen (born 1985, died 2017) were somehow brought back a season early, she and mary would be about the same age :(

sam winchester: 35 years biologically/chronologically, 157 mentally - sam’s age is something of a nightmare when you consider 1. mystery spot and 2. that his SOUL was dead and in hell for a year (a year which they later retconned out of existence so that the show’s calendar would match the real-life one) while his body was on earth almost that entire time (depending on how soon cas sprang him after 5.22 - it was probably only days, but it couldn’t have been longer than a couple of weeks). mystery spot is fairly straight-forward; 100 tuesdays + 6 months is about 9 months (or 1 year, if we’re rounding) to his mental age. the separation of sam’s soul and body and how long his year in hell FELT to him is messier and something of a point of debate. since sam experienced the same time dually in both the physical plane and hell (years as both a body and a soul count), we have to add ANOTHER year to his mental age to account for that. as for how long his time in hell was from his perspective - it’s generally accepted that 1 month on earth is like 40 years in hell, which puts it at a minimum of 120 years. but in season 6 he has a flashback which lasts “two or three minutes” that sam says felt like “about a week.” since there are 525,600 minutes in a year, that’s potentially 175,200-262,800 weeks (depending on whether it was 2 minutes or 3), or a staggering 3360-5040 years. the nature of a flashback not matching reality, though, i’m more comfortable going with 120 years than 5040, making his “mental age” 157. (though if you pushed it to the maximum possible limit and added the 5040 years, that’d put him at 5077, or almost 51 CENTURIES, and in that case, dean’s older brother privileges? officially revoked.) either way, as far as years experienced, he IS the oldest human on this list.

CAS THEE TIEL: 35 biologically, 4.5 billion chronologically - jimmy novak has no canon age, but since sam and dean were the same age of their actors, i’m going with misha collins’s age at the time cas possessed jimmy - he was born in 1974, and even though the timeline around jimmy’s possession is confusing, either way misha collins would have had his 2008 birthday but not his 2009 one, so that puts him at 34 (even though misha collins the human aged, cas warns jimmy in 4.20 that he will NOT age). cas was also a fallen angel during the last month or so of season 5, and for about 6 months in season 9. assuming he DID age during that time, and that misha collins was closer to his 35th birthday than his 34th one during the time cas possessed jimmy, i’m comfortable with saying his body looks like and will always look like a 35yo holy tax accountant - assuming he continues to be an angel, of course. as for his chronological age, i’m going with the age of the earth, since they probably would have been created at about the same time. (unless you read named, in which *gunshots*)

dean winchester: 39 years biologically/chronologically, 79 mentally - again, since this is right before dean’s 40th birthday, he’s still 39 for just a couple of weeks. he likely stopped aging when michael possessed him, though (which was about a month - who knows if dean would age while caging michael as he is as of 14.13). add the 40 years dean spent in hell, and he is now MENTALLY almost as old as he was when he got aged up in 5.07 (being ~30 at the time, and adding 50 to that). this means right now he’s biologically older than cas, but he would have been cas’s age during 2013-2014 - interestingly enough, when cas was human (and for about a year after he became an angel again - so, during dean’s time with the mark of cain, including, yes, The Beatdown).

john winchester: 51 years biologically/chronologically, 151 mentally - the john that canonically got pulled from 2003 was 48 years old in every respect, but i’m calculating his age based on if he was ACTUALLY revived and pulled down from heaven permanently, since that’s what i’m doing in my fanfic. there’s some conflicting canon about john’s birth date, but best guesses put him in december of 1954 like mary. there’s also conflicting information about what month he died, but it was in 2006 and before his birthday in december, so that puts him at 51. alastair says he was in hell for “close to a century,” so we’ll round that and call that 100 years. 

apocalypse world michael: n/a biologically, between 4.5 billion and 13.7 billion chronologically - older than cas, but younger than the universe. currently has no physical form due to being stuck inside dean winchester, something i will happily continue to be a freak about >:)

It was my gateway in the world of fanfictions. I started watching SPN around that time too. Such shame it's not in ao3 anymore (or is it?) bc i really want to reread it again.

So, hey, saw the request. I've sorta been hovering around the fandom since...maybe 2009? 2010? I know I caught up on the first 4/5 seasons in a blitz of a couple weekends of binging and crying during my college days, and then went sobbing to ffnet (ah, AO3, not yet around at the time) to find Destiel fics to comfort myself with. After all this time, Tripping by Hatteress is one fic I still come back to reread. That, and the little additions. It's one of the few fics I think did an insane amount of justice to Dean as he is in Canon, repressed emotions and all. A second one...I suppose, as Christmas has just passed, this short gem of emotion is perfect for the season. It's called Where The Sea and City Meet by RC_McLachlan and it still makes me tear up reading it.

If you ever want any more old school Destiel fics (like, back from 2008-2010, when I dived headfirst into the fandom) hit me up. I have an entire google doc filled with just Destiel recs I made for a friend eight years ago. Thanks for all the fic recs! I'm way out of the loop on Destiel fics these days, I dropped out of being an active member of the fandom some six years ago and just recently got dragged kicking and screaming back in (and rewatching the series from the beginning cause I'm a masochist)

My Unimportant Little Life

Season 5 timeline - Dean gets yanked from 2009 to 2014, so he can see the ‘consequences’ of saying no to Michael. At Camp Chitaqua he meets Reggie, and is surprised to find that she comes from 2009 as well…

Reggie stood at the center of the room, arms wrapped tightly around herself, shaking.  Part of the trembling was from the damp cold that had seeped into her very bones, it seemed.  But the real cause stood a few feet away from her, scowling fiercely as his cold green eyes traveled over her body, making her feel almost violated.  

“Clothes off.  Now.”  The deep, rough timbre of his voice sent a chill up her spine again, and she fought to keep from letting the panic in her belly take over as she stared back at him, unbelieving.  "I’m not kidding, princess.“  Her frightened eyes moved from his face to his hand, which rested on the gun strapped to his thigh.  His eyebrow raised as a sarcastic smirk curved his full lips.  "Unless you want me to come over there and do it for you.”

Her hazel eyes flitted from one person to the next in the group of at least a dozen people standing a distance behind their obvious leader, watching and waiting.  They all, without exception, dropped their gaze as she looked pleadingly at them.  And then she jumped, her nerves at high alert, as the door opened hard enough to slam into the wall beside it.

“What the hell’s going on?”  The man demanded as he elbowed his way out of the grip of a couple of the men who tried to restrain him. Reggie felt her jaw drop as she looked at his angry face, then back to her captor - they were identical.

“Well, Dean,” the man in charge said, his voice dripping with venom as he emphasized the name, “not that it’s any of your business, but she was with the Croats.  She’s gotta be checked over for wounds before she’s allowed to stay. That’s the way it is.  Life isn’t as full of sunshine as it is where you’re from.”   His eyes went back to Reggie, and he took another step towards her.  "Strip, now. This is not negotiable.“

"I’m not injured.  I promise.  Please…”  Reggie rasped out, and the man who had entered the room came to her side, turning to face his twin.

“Okay, fine, I get it.  But there’s gotta be a woman who can do this, and without an audience.”

The leader of the group almost growled as he answered.  "I check everybody personally before they’re allowed to join our happy little family.  No one gets into this camp without going through me.  You don’t like it, go back to where you came from, McFly.“

Reggie watched as the man beside her stepped forward, getting in the face of his double.  "Look, if that’s the way it has to be, then get everybody out of here. They don’t need to watch this.  And I’m staying to make sure she’s okay.”

The two men glared at each other for a few tense seconds, and then the group’s leader raised a hand, gesturing towards the door.  "Everybody out!“ he shouted, and then, "Shut the hell up!” as the grumbling began and the others in the room began to leave.  The mumbling all but stopped, and the rest of the group left in silence, leaving the three of them in the room as the door closed quietly. His unsympathetic gaze turned back to Reggie.  "All right, cupcake. This is as private as it’s going to get.  So get naked.“

"God, you’re an asshole,” Dean said, turning towards her, taking a deep breath before speaking softly to her.  "It’s okay, sweetheart.  What’s your name?“

"Reggie,” she whispered, still shaking uncontrollably.

“Reggie, just go ahead and get undressed.  Nobody’s gonna touch you.  We just need to make sure you don’t have any injuries, that’s how the Croats infect you.  I’m sorry, we have to make sure you’re not carrying the virus before you can stay here.  Understand?”

She kept her eyes on the man speaking to her - his green eyes were kind, apologetic, and she nodded slowly.  "You’re staying, right?“ she asked quietly, making him take a step closer to hear her.  

"Yeah. I’m right here, sweetheart.  Nobody’s gonna hurt you.”

She turned her back to the men, her fingers trembling as she unbuttoned her shirt and let it fall to the ground.  She finished undressing, her eyes filled with humiliated tears, and then turned to face them, her arms awkwardly attempting to protect her from their eyes.

“Arms out and twirl, princess,” the camp leader ordered harshly, and the other man shot an angry glare his way.

“You are one cold son of a bitch,” he growled, then looked into her eyes, his expression softening.  "It’s okay, Reggie.  Just hold your arms out and turn around slowly.  It’ll be all right.“

Tears trickled down her face as she slowly opened herself up to their gaze and turned in a slow circle, and then her advocate was in front of her, draping his flannel overshirt around her shoulders.  The other man, a smirk on his face, walked to the door, turning back to look over his shoulder.  "By the way, princess, you’re welcome in my cabin anytime.”  Then he left, the door slamming behind him, and she was alone with her defender.  

He turned his back, folding his arms across his chest.  "You can get dressed now.  Let me know when you’re done,“ he said softly, and Reggie dropped his shirt, pulling her clothes on as she fought to keep her composure.  

"Okay,” she whispered when she had finished, and he turned to take the shirt from her outstretched hand.  Her badly shaking fingers then returned to her face, hovering over her lips, and one lone sob escaped.  She stepped closer to him, breaking down completely, and he pulled her close, murmuring soothing words and rubbing her back gently as she sobbed against his chest.

Dean was shocked at the desperate way Reggie was clutching the front of his shirt, considering that he had been a part of what had just happened to her, and that he looked exactly like the man who’d been such a dick to her in the first place.  Kind of hard to explain that it was him, just not HIM him… how the hell do you make any kind of sense out of that to someone else?  It didn’t even make sense to him. Not to mention the fact that he wasn’t completely sure that any of this was actually real.  Would actually be real.  He shook his head slightly, wondering if he was losing it entirely.

The petite girl in his arms was beginning to calm down, and he pulled back from her a little, offering her his shirt to wipe her face.  She smiled tremulously, taking it from him and drying her tears, then offering it back to him.  He gave her a crooked little smile and said, “Keep it.”  She let out a nervous little laugh, then looked back to the floor.  "You okay?“ he asked, and she nodded after a moment of hesitation.

"Yeah. I guess.”  She looked up at him almost shyly, and Dean mentally shook himself for the little surge of arousal he felt looking into her dark-lashed amber eyes.  "Thank you.  For what you did.  At least I didn’t have to strip down in front of a whole roomful of people.“

"I’m sorry,” he said softly, letting his arms drop back to his sides as she backed away a step.

“At least you made it a little less humiliating.”  She was blushing, still looking at the floor, turning to pace a little, suddenly very nervous.  She stopped to look over her shoulder at him.  her long chestnut hair swaying with her movement.  "So, are you guys twins, or what?“

She turned at Dean’s little snort of laughter, and he shook his head. "Let’s just say, we’re related.”  She nodded, and the silence settled in, growing uncomfortable after a few moments. “Well, I should…”

“Wait! Please, don’t leave me.”  Her hand was clutching at his, her eyes pleading with him.  "Please, if you’re going, take me with you.“  

Dean closed his eyes for a second to avoid staring at the way she was biting at her soft, full lower lip.  "Okay, okay,” he soothed her, giving her hand a little squeeze before releasing it. “Just stick close.  Let’s go get you something to eat.”

Reggie stuck right by his side as they navigated the camp, heading to where the food was being doled out by the day’s volunteers.  "Hey, past Dean!“ he heard behind him, and turned to see Cas, unshaven and smiling, his eyes unfocused and a little glazed.  

"Dude, shut up!” he said in a low voice, and Cas smiled even bigger, trying to peer around Dean at Reggie, who was clutching at his arm and trying to hide behind him.  "Don’t be stupid, Cas.  Do you want to try and explain that to someone?“

"Sorry, just trying to make conversation.  Who’s your friend?”

Dean looked sternly at the once-angel, his voice wiping the smile from Cas’ face.  "You stay away from her, you hear me?  She’s not one of your orgy babes.“

Cas held his hands up, nodding.  "Okay, okay.  I get it.  She’s all yours, bro.”  He smiled again and staggered on his way, and Dean rolled his eyes as he left.  

“Sorry, Reggie.  He’s harmless, but just stay away from him until you’re a little more used to things, okay?”

She nodded, and Dean looked down at her hands, both clutching at his arm. She let go, blushing as she turned away.  "I’m sorry.  I don’t mean to be all… clingy and…“

Dean took a firm hold of her hand and smiled down at her.  "Nothing to be sorry for.”  He led her to the food line, then sat down with her as she ate, focused as though she hadn’t had a good meal for a while.  "So, how’d you end up running into the Croats, Reggie?“ he asked gently.  

She stopped eating and her hands disappeared into her lap.  "I… I don’t know.  I don’t remember.  And I’m afraid you’ll think I’m crazy.”

Dean laughed shortly.  "Now - my story, you’d think was crazy. Yours, I doubt it.“

Reggie looked up at him, her hazel eyes confused and filled with tears. "Night before last, I went to bed in my apartment in Kansas City - in 2009.”

Dean’s eyes widened.  "Come with me,“ he said, taking her hand and pulling her along, heading for the cabin he was staying in, along with a couple of other men from the group.  No one was there, and he breathed a sigh of relief as he closed the door behind them.  "You? You’re from 2009?”

She nodded slowly.  "I told you you’d think I’m crazy.“

Dean turned away, taking a few steps as he shoved his fingers through his hair roughly.  "I don’t think you’re crazy, because the same thing happened to me,” he said softly, moving back towards her. “But I know why it happened to me. Why did it happen to you? Are the angels screwing with you, too?”

Reggie’s eyes widened.  "Angels?“ she whispered.  

Dean’s lips pressed together, his brow furrowed as he turned away from her again.  "Zachariah!” he shouted, and Reggie jumped nervously.  "Where are you, you feathered dick?“  Nothing but dead silence answered him, and he turned to look at her once again, holding up his hands as he saw the frightened look on her face.  "Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you.  I’m just so sick of them screwing with people’s lives.  Come with me, okay?  I need to talk to Cas.”  He reached out his hand, and she looked warily at it for a moment before placing hers in his grasp.

He hurried along, pulling her with him down the row of ramshackle little cabins until he came to the one inhabited by Cas.  Reggie followed him up the wooden steps and through the door - Dean didn’t bother knocking - and they walked through a beaded curtain into a room where Cas sat, surrounded by several women, all of them looking like they were feeling no pain.  Cas looked up at the intrusion, smiling widely at Dean.  "Excuse me for a moment, I believe Dean wants to speak to me.  Why don’t you get washed up for the orgy?  I’ll be right back.“  He stood and walked towards the door, pausing to put his hand on a woman’s face as he passed by, then looking over his shoulder at the group. "You’re all so beautiful.”  Then he smiled brightly at Reggie, who was staring at him, her mouth open and her eyes wide.  "You’re welcome to join us, if you like,“ he said, and Dean cleared his throat loudly.  "Oh, Dean - I almost forgot you were there.”

“Yeah. I noticed,” Dean growled softly, glaring disapprovingly at Cas’ scruffy, happy face.  "Cas, do you know her?“

"In what sense?”

“Cas, not in the mood.  Do you know her?”

Cas dropped his gaze, and the smile left his face.  "Dean, may I talk to you?  Alone?“

Dean looked at Reggie, putting a hand on her shoulder.  "Just stay here.  I’ll be right outside.”  She nodded reluctantly, glancing back at Cas before stepping back to let him pass.

Cas led the way out, and Dean followed, pulling the door shut behind them. They walked to the middle of the path outside the cabin before he turned to face Dean again.  

“Well?” Dean demanded, his brows drawn together in a thunderous frown.  "Do you know her or not?“

Cas met his gaze for a moment before staring at the ground once again. "I know of her.”

Dean clenched his jaw impatiently, waiting for the former angel to elaborate. “And?”  He reached out to grab a handful of Cas’ shirt.  "What the hell is going on?  Why is she here from 2009, Cas?“

Cas finally raised his head and looked Dean in the eye.  "Because there’s something in this time that she needs to see.  That’s all I know.”

Reggie washed herself quickly, trying not to let her teeth chatter in the cold water.  The luxury of being clean outweighed the discomfort of being cold, so she wouldn’t complain.  At least the showers still worked, which was something to be thankful for.  Sadie, one of Cas’ groupies, had  offered to take her to the women’s showers and lend her some clothes, as well as soap and shampoo, and Reggie was extremely grateful for her kindness.  

She rinsed herself clean and gathered Sadie’s threadbare towel around her as she stepped out.  "Sadie, thank you so much.  It feels so wonderful to be clean again.“  

"Probably used to a little nicer accommodations where you’re from, huh?”

Reggie jumped, her startled little shriek echoing through the room as she backed away, the towel clutched tightly around her.  Sadie was gone, and in her place stood the camp commander, one foot planted on the seat of the rickety chair where Sadie had been sitting.  "What the hell are you doing in here?  Where’s Sadie?“

"I sent her away.  We needed to talk.”

“Why would I want to talk to you?” she spat, and a slow, amused smirk curved his lips.  

“I thought maybe there was something you needed to tell me.”  He stared into her eyes, then let his gaze rake over her slowly before returning to face her angry glare.  

“Such as?”

He stood, and she stepped back a little farther, though the defiance on her face never wavered.  "Such as, 'Hey, sorry to inconvenience you, but I thought I’d pop in from the past and see what the apocalypse looks like.’“

Reggie’s face paled, and she felt her back come up against the wall behind her as he approached her slowly.  "How did you know?”

“This is my camp.  Eventually I find out everything that goes on here. Now, why are you here?” he shouted, slamming the flat of his hand against the wall as he stopped a hair’s breadth away from her.

“I don’t know!” she shouted, glaring up at him contemptuously.  "I went to bed one night in 2009, and woke up the next morning in hell!“

"Damn straight, you did.  And I’m gonna find out what you’re doing here. Whatever you and my past self are up to, I’m warning you - don’t get in my way.”  He let his eyes drag over her once again before pushing away from the wall and stalking from the small building, leaving the door open.  

Reggie took a steadying breath, then went quickly to the door and locked it. She dressed in the borrowed t-shirt and jeans - they were a little big for her, but they beat wearing the filthy things she had arrived in.  

She peered cautiously out the door before stepping out, trying to remember which way it was to Sadie’s cabin.  She heard Dean’s voice and turned, waiting for him as his long-legged stride carried him to her side.  "Hey.  I wondered where you went.“

"Sadie offered some clean clothes and showed me the shower house.  I wanted to get cleaned up.”  She looked up at Dean, her lips trembling a little as she continued.  "I just had another run-in with the fearless leader.“

Dean’s brows furrowed.  "Are you okay?”

For the first time, he saw anger rather than fear spark in her eyes. “Yeah.  I’m fine.  Apparently he thinks you and I might be up to something.  Since we both came from 2009, maybe?  I don’t know.”

Dean put his hand on her upper arm, urging her to walk at his side.  "I’m taking you back to Sadie’s for now.  I need to talk to him… me… whatever.“  He cast a sidelong glance at her as she laughed quietly, and he shot a one-sided smile her direction.

They arrived at the cabin, and Sadie came out to meet them.  "Oh, Reggie… I’m sorry I left you, Dean told me to get out…”

“Don’t worry about it, Sadie.  I’m fine.  Thanks again for everything.” A tentative smile pushed the guilty look from the older woman’s face.  "Can I hang out with you for a while?“  Sadie’s smile grew, and she nodded, gesturing towards the cabin.

"I’ve actually got some coffee left.  Do you want some?”  Reggie smiled and nodded, then turned towards Dean again as he spoke.  

“Just stay here, okay?  I’ll come back for you.  Don’t go anywhere alone, I don’t trust some of these people.”

She nodded again in answer, then turned to follow Sadie into the cabin. Dean could hear her chattering to Reggie as they walked in, and he watched until the door closed behind them.  Then he turned resolutely to head for the cabin his future self called home.

There is something so beautiful yet so broken about Endverse!Cas. He's clearly in love with Dean, and I can see Dean growing close with Cas after Sam let Luci inside of him, but the stress and despair of the apocalypse would tear it apart. Dean and Cas were definately able to survive as long as they did bc they had each other, but the leadership role Dean took on would eventually lead to his downfall. Cas went through many changes in those five years, such as becoming human and living in a deadly zombie infested world, but I really believe Dean (emotionally speaking) leaving him behind is what caused him to do drugs and participate in orgies. Cas just wanted to know what it felt like to be happy and to be loved, something Dean forgot about a long time ago.

Them having a thing in Endverse would explain a lot of things. Even when Cas had a broken leg and couldn't do anything for three months, Dean made sure to share food with him and give him shelter even though he could have easily thrown him out for not being able to help the group. This version of Dean is very harden, but I do believe that him not giving up on Cas then was lowkey an act of love.

Even though Cas knows Dean's plan to kill Luci is absolutely insane, Cas is willing to go with Dean anyways. I think in a way this is a bittersweet suicide. Cas may be a human on drugs, but he isn't an idiot. He knows how dangerous this plan is, but I think Cas wanted to go out if it meant he could spend one last time with Dean. Not to mention I think Cas was willing to die to make sure Dean could survive. Cas clearly doesn't put much value to himself in this world sadly.

When Chuck said "I don't think Cas is going anywhere anytime soon", I believe it also supports this idea that both Dean and Cas had a special bond (even if it ended up becoming broken). Let's be real, this line of dialogue is quite random. After all, our Dean was just trying to look for Cas. It could have easily been cut out to save a bit of time, but I do think this one little line holds power. I mean this entire episode really puts Dean and Castiel's relationship in the spotlight. There are quite a few famous Destiel lines including "I like past you", "Don't ever change", etc. My point is, it just makes sense for that line to have a deeper meaning rather than for it to be a throwaway and I honestly love it bc it implies a much more deeper storyline that quite frankly I could see myself watching.

Finally, past Dean separating Cas vs his other friends when he talks about Future Dean's plan to murder Lucifer alone just speaks massive volume. In his world, he's only known Cas for about a year. They're not exactly besties at this point, but you can see how past Dean holds Cas in a special high regard. Future Dean even admits things are complicated between him and Cas beforehand. We see that Dean knows himself very well (I mean he knew not to trust his future self from the start), and I think Dean realized what exactly he meant by that even if it's not explicitly stated (not to mention when it comes to romantic relationships, a lot of people use the term "it's complicated" as a label).

Thus, I believe during the five years of working together, it would make even more sense that they ended up getting closer than we could ever imagine (atleast comparing it with canon SPN). I mean Dean's protective nature + Castiel's faith towards Dean + going through literal hell and back during those five years sounds like an amazing story waiting to be told. It's truly heartbreaking that that Dean ended up going crazy and Cas just gave up on life at the end of the day. I'd kill to see what happened inbetween 2009 and 2014, bc through these hints, Dean and Castiel's relationship sounds very interesting.

I have SOOOOOO much more theories and ideas of what could have happened, but tbh this is already a really long post.

On another note, I'm in love with Endverse Cas and I want to give him the biggest bear hug in the universe. He really deserved to be protected. I will forever hate that Future Dean was willing to let him die for his own agenda after all the shit they went through. If SPN has proven anything, it's that there is always another way to do something without having to sacrifice everyone around you. In another life (and by that I mean in fanfiction land), I hope Endverse Destiel could end on a happier note and Cas could finally get the love he's been longing for...

I loved the concept of intro-ing the new Death, then Sam coming to Jody with Miracle, becoming a father, then Dean Jr's perspective for a bit. I loved neuro atypical Sam, his perspective as he stresses and worries and loves his brother, awww. Then some soft, sweet Dean and Cas cuddles. Dean explicitly comes out to Sam as bi in this fic whatwith how he's spending nights with Cas and Sam is happy for him and Dean's happy and it's a HAPPY FIC but also the narrative featuring Sam's executive dysfunction keeps it grounded. This fic is so fractured yet everything is emotionally coherent and lovely. Totally worth reading and giving kudos bc it doesn't have enough imo

First, I need to acknowledge this author has a fantastic style and handle on prose. I loved some of their turns of phrase; they're strikingly elegant! As for the plot, the utter grief and emotionally-hurt!Dean in having lost Cas is tangible. He has moments of revelation about sexuality, physical bodies, etc.  that I really appreciated. It was so thoughtful, giving Dean's processing of Castiel's final speech so much weight. When Cas comes back, the sex is literally transcendent 😂 it was fantastic. And finally, Sam makes a small appearance and the amount of love circling between them is so wholesome. A+ fic, highly recommend!

Jared/Jensen, Teen+, 30k words. Summary: Since he was a little boy, Jared has only one wish; to become a magician like his father and brother. Although Jared is extremely talented, his familiar - his soulmate - must find him to pass the exam. When it almost seems that Jared can never become a true magician, a tabby tomcat enters his life and turns it upside down. But what is the secret behind the tomcat with the most beautiful green eyes? ao3.org/works/27504847 my thoughts: The Jared angst actually got me emotional in this one for a little bit, I was not expecting that! hahaha. Wow though, this was such a great story, such a satisfying read. Jared's mean family, the kind mage teacher at school (also Jared's lovely uncle and his store), the elusive Familiar (the anticipation buuuuuilds!). Jared's cool talents as a mage and there's some bits about his inherent goodness/oneness with nature that's so cool, cat!Jensen and his own unique power(s) & then this fantastic action-y ending. YES! I was so happy with this fic 😊🥰️ ALSO shoutout to the lovely amberdreams for their artwork in this fic. It was so innocent and nostalgic, almost. Like an adorable children’s book romance.  🥰️ 🥰️ 🥰️ This fic’s been added to my animal transformation reclist and soul stuff reclist.

Summary: Someone sends Dean back to 2009, with a mission: change the past, change the present, so the apocalypse never happens.Dean leaves behind a Croatoan-ridden world, only to stumble into the one person he's always loved more than anything else.Or:Zachariah doesn't send Dean to 2014. They’d done it. 

Dean still wasn’t sure how they’d managed to pull it off. But, a team made up of both versions of himself, Chuck and Castiel had done it. 

They’d finally tracked down Lucifer. It had pained Dean to see that bastard using his little brother’s body. But even in his true vessel, Lucifer had been becoming weak. Sam must have been fighting the possession hard from the moment he’d said yes. Beating down the walls inside just to try and make a crack. 

With Dean and the team pushing from the outside, and Sam pushing from the inside, Lucifer finally cracked. Sam bleed through that crack and begged his brother to use this moment of weakness to kill Lucifer, and get rid of him for good. 

2014!Dean had little time to argue no matter how much it pained him to have to kill his brother. In the small window of weakness, he plunged an angel blade right into Sam’s heart. 

Dean could only watch with despair as he watched his brother be taken, knowing there was nothing he could do about it - there was no way to get him back this time. 

What was the point in anything now? If this is how it would all end up, Dean didn’t want it. He’d fight even harder to stop his Sam from saying yes to Lucifer. He couldn’t lose his brother again. 

Both Deans knelt by Sam’s unmoving body, sadness and pain coursing through them.

Behind 2014!Dean, Castiel appeared and placed a hand on the hunter’s shoulder. 2014!Dean lifted his hand, never taking his eyes off his brother’s face, to place it on Cas’. Dean felt like he was intruding on a moment so he took one last look at his brother and rose to his feet. 

Chuck came over, giving him a sympathetic look. He took Dean’s place next to Sam’s body and placed a hand on his still chest. 

A deep gulp of air sounded across the wooded area. 

Everyone looked with amazement as Sam opened his eyes. 

“Did we get him?” He coughed. 

The team remained speechless. 2014!Dean fell backwards into Castiel’s legs. 

“Welcome back, Sam” Cas spoke after a few moments, giving the man a small smile. 

Both Deans remained locked in stunned and disbelieving silence. Sam sat up and looked down at the fried blood on his shirt. “What happened? Shouldn’t I be dead?” He looked up at both versions of his brother, who looked just as confused as him. 

“God must be looking out for you, Sam.” Chuck offered. 

Sam let out a relieved laugh, which finally broke his brother kneeling beside him out of his trance. 2014!Dean threw his arms around his brother.

Later that evening, they’d all returned to base and were having a party to celebrate Sam’s return, and the end of the end of the world. 

But Dean didn’t know why he was still there. At first, he thought he’d been sent to learn a lesson, to see the inevitability of the apocalypse. But Sam was back and looking pretty much as healthy as ever. 

Maybe he was just stuck for good. It wouldn’t be too bad he supposed. It’d be weird getting used to having a clone though. 

Speaking of the later version of himself, he was currently sat by the fire, locked in what looked like an intense, intimate conversation with Cas. After a few more seconds, both men stood up silently and walked away from the main group, towards one of the cabins. 

Just at the last second, before they disappeared out of sight, Dean saw his alternate self slip his hand into Cas’. 

Damn. 

Dean wasn’t a blushing virgin. He knew exactly what was going on in that cabin. Future him and Cas end up hooking up. Dean found that the idea wasn’t completely unwelcome. 

Suddenly, he missed his Castiel. The angel had a stick in his ass most of the time but he’d done so much for the Winchester, rebelled against his own family. He was their family now. 

Great. Dean realised he liked Castiel just as he got trapped in the future with a Castiel that is cool but not his Cas - and who was clearly already taken anyway. 

Not feeling the party mood anymore, Dean downed the last of his beer and went to find an empty cabin. He’d get some sleep and start trying to figure out how to get home in the morning. 

He went in the opposite direction from where Cas and the other Dean has gone - he certainly didn’t want to be hearing what was going on in that cabin right now. 

Soon enough, he was lying on an old camp bed and willing his brain to stop thinking for one second so he could be taken by sleep.

He closed his eyes and hoped.

“Dean.”

“Dean.”

“Dean, I know you’re alive. You need to wake up.”

Dean’s eyes fluttered open. 

Bent over him was Castiel. But he was wearing his stupid tax accoutant trenchcoat again. Dean looked around the room. He wasn’t in the cabin anymore. Instead, the questionable decor of a random highway motel surrounded him. He pulled himself up to sit against the headboard, head swimming with thoughts. 

Sensing Dean’s confusion, Castiel sat hesitantly on the side of Dean’s bed. “Sam couldn’t wake you this morning, so he called for me.” He explained. 

“You never come when Sam calls.” Dean countered. 

Castiel shrugged softly, “I will always come for you, Dean.”

Trying to avoid blushing at the double meaning to Castiel’s innocent words, Dean asked, “Cas, what year is it?”

The angel titled his head. “2009 of course, Dean. Are you feeling alright?”

Dean watched a look of concern flit across Castiel’s normally stoic face. Obviously, the angel knew nothing of where Dean had been, nothing of what he had seen. 

Images of their future selves walking hand in hand flashed through Dean’s mind. He looked at his angel sat on the motel bed - here only because he was concerned for Dean.

Dean was still determined not to let Sam say yes to Lucifer. But he did know one thing for certain - he wasn’t going to wait another five years to have something he knew was inevitable. 

He slowly reached across the mattress to grasp Castiel’s hand in his. He didn’t want to startle the angel. God only knew if this Castiel would feel the same as his future self did. 

But Dean needn’t have worried. Castiel gripped his hand right back. 

Both men smiled down at their joined hands. 

“Hey, Cas?” Dean whispered. 

The angel turned his soft look towards the hunter. “Yes, Dean?”

“How would you feel about finding the nearest diner and trying your first burger?”

“That sounds lovely, Dean.”

Dean would tell Castiel about his trip to 2014 eventually but right now he was content to explore the bond he had with his angel. 

Maybe he was sent to 2014 to learn a lesson after all. Maybe it was indeed a lesson in inevitability. Not in the inevitability of death and heartache, but in love, hope and happiness.
