Okay, so this actually helped SO MUCH with something that was severely bothering me about her character. All throughout the second case, it was NEVER stated that she wasn't going to be the judge overseeing Simeon Saint's trial. And while you would think that would be obvious, corrupt BS has happened to favor the prosecution in these games often enough that it wouldn't surprise me. So with her swooping in, booting Edgeworth off the case, and being a judge helping the prosecutor and already deciding Simeon's guilt before the trial even began? I was honestly expecting HER to be the murderer. I was shocked she wasn't, and even more shocked that no one was calling out how corrupt it is for a JUDGE to be investigating alongside the prosecution.
But this clears it up. She's NOT the presiding judge over these cases. And while I didn't take a screenshot of it, her profile in this case says that she's a district judge. District judges are federal judges. While state courts can handle just about any type of case, federal courts are far more selective with the types of cases they oversee, and so it's far more likely that the cases we play in Ace Attorney (and investigate in AAI) are mostly state court cases, with the exception of the ones involving the foreign governments, lol. My point is, Verity couldn't be the presiding judge here, if they truly meant to indicate that she's a federal judge by declaring her to be a district judge in her profile. (It's possible they didn't; not everyone has knowledge of how the judiciary operates.)
But speaking of how the judiciary operates—
Girl, no you are not lol. "Justice" is a title only granted to members of the United States Supreme Court, or the Chief Judge of a State Supreme Court, and we have been given no indication that you are or have been either one of those. You are just a district judge. Sit down.
That said, one does not simply address a judge by their first name. It is either "Judge" or "Judge Gavelle." Tbh, even Eustace calling her "Gavelle" so often is like . . . that would never fly in real life, lmao. The most chill judges would raise an eyebrow at a first name address, might let it slide if you're not otherwise annoying or disrespectful (which Larry is), but the blunt last name address? My guys on the loc team have never worked with judges and it shows. That or they're just trying to be very faithful to the original JP despite localizing it, which . . . well I mean, most people don't know what I know and thus wouldn't be cringing like me, but I still know. And I'm cringing. One does not simply address a judge like that. It's a big no-no.
But then again, I get the feeling that Verity was Eustace's mentor when he was at Themis Academy, and that's why he's her specialist little boy and she babies him so much, so. That must be why he gets the special privilege.
There's no saving Larry, though.
RIP in pieces, Larry.

The Great Pro-Wrestling Adventure Hour - 003 06/01/23 Defy TV 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM EST Filmed at the Good Time Theatre at Dorney Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania
SEGMENT ONE (NINE MINUTES):
- Sudu Upadhyay welcomed fans to another episode of The Great Pro-Wrestling Adventure Hour on Defy TV on this, the first day of June. Larry Zbyszko said the summer is right around the corner, which unfortunately means StarKist Charlie Tuna and the rest of the punks on parade are going to have even more free time on their hands with high school out of session.
- The Great Pro-Wrestling Adventure Hour intro aired set to "Black Swan Lake" by Janko Nilovic.
Starboy Charlie vs. HC Loc Starboy Charlie defeated HC Loc with a spinning kick. (3:42)
- After the match Starboy Charlie continued to attack HC Loc. He said that Loc is an example of everything that is wrong with wrestling as he's been living off a year long run in the dying days of ECW for over twenty years. He claimed that HC Loc has been getting booked as a nostalgia act since before Starboy was even born. CORE agents Aaron Arbo, Andy Harner, and Trik Davis came to the ring and escorted Starboy Charlie to the back. As they did, Marcus Mathers, Brogan Finlay, Kylie Paige, and Billie Starkz entered the ring from the crowd and began to put the boots to HC Loc. Larry Zbyszko left the commentary booth brandishing a folding chair and headed toward ringside. The attackers pleaded with Larry to enter the ring which provided enough of a distraction for HC Loc to roll under the bottom rope to safety.
SEGMENT TWO (SEVEN MINUTES):
- In a segment filmed at the Lehigh Valley International Airport, Derek Dillinger and Ziggy Haim were filmed exiting their terminal. Three people greeted them at their arrival; from the conversation we learn that Derek and Ziggy have apparently just returned from the Cannes Film Festival where Derek's latest film, Dr. Vibes Rises Again was acquired by Bleecker Street. Ziggy Haim told them they even had a poster mocked up. The poster is soaked in saturated oranges, pinks, and purples; in bold white lettering, "THE FINAL FILM BY KUBRICK." below that "DENIRO." below that "ARQUETTE." and then the title. The camera panned to reveal the group Derek and Ziggy had been speaking to, wrestlers Dom Kubrick, Al Deniro, and Katie Arquette. Dom Kubrick is surprised his name is so big on the poster, he was just a production assistant. Derek tells Kubrick they couldn't have made the film without him. Dom also is curious as to why it's his final film. Ziggy explains that they are transitioning into television now, The Production have signed an overall deal with Defy TV to develop projects and appear on the Great Pro-Wrestling Adventure Hour.
folkstyle (Shaw Mason, Tim Bosby, and Hunter Holdcraft) vs. Aaron Roxas, Johnny Moran, and Luca Mancini folkstyle defeated Aaron Roxas, Johnny Moran, and Luca Mancini with the ripcord lariat from Bosby on Roxas. (4:04)
SEGMENT THREE (NINE MINUTES):
- At the Von Trier ranch, we see Franz Von Trier sitting on his pickup truck tailgate when he is approached from off screen by a young man holding a pitchfork and saying "that should be the last of it, pop." The young man wipes sweat from his brow as Franz introduces us to Kirk Von Trier. Franz said they've all had to pick up a few more chores around the ranch lately with his boys Dale and Keith preparing for their CORE debut next week. Franz said it will be an honor to be in their corner next week. The camera pans to show Dale and Keith glistening in the sun as they run the fence line of the Von Trier ranch with the family dog at their heels.
Giant Baba Yaga (with UltraMantis Black) vs. Kayla Sparks Giant Baba Yaga defeated Kayla Sparks with the running neckbreaker. (3:21)
- UltraMantis Black handed Giant Baba Yaga her customary post-match cigar but Baba appeared agitated with UltraMantis. UltraMantis calms Baba down, he understands Baba Yaga wants real competition and promises to get on the horn and line up a challenge for her at Pillow Park in historic Pillow, Pennsylvania.
SEGMENT FOUR (EIGHT MINUTES):
- Back from break, we join Prince Nana in The Throne Room. Nana said no one is more deserving of visit to the Throne Room than his guests this week, "The Queen of House Rose" Raychell Rose and Queen Aminata. As a Prince, Nana said it is his honor to bend at the knee before the "Queens Of Wrestling." In this segment, Raychell Rose and Queen Aminata announced that on June 10th at The Panic In Pillow Park, Rose and Aminata will be teaming with The Goddess Athena to take on Billie Starkz, Kenzie Paige, and Kylie Paige.
- From the CORE news desk, it's Daphne Oz with the Coal Region Roundup. Oz said that you just heard it and it's officially signed, on June 10th in Pillow, PA it will be Athena, Raychell Rose, and Queen Aminata vs. Billie Starkz, Kenzie Paige, and Kylie Paige. Also just signed for that card, UltraMantis Black has confirmed that Giant Baba Yaga will go one-on-one with Japanese women's wrestling star SAKI. Daphne also announced that as you heard earlier, Dale and Keith Von Trier will be making their CORE debut on next week's episode of The Great Pro-Wrestling Adventure Hour and they will have quite the challenge as they square off with Marcus Mathers and Brogan Finlay.
SEGMENT FIVE (EIGHT MINUTES):
Titus Alexander vs. J Boujii (with Shayla) - Before the opening bell Shayla was escorted from ringside to the back by CORE officials and representatives from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission. No explanation was given, but Shayla is currently with child and perhaps their safety was in consideration. Titus Alexander defeated J Boujii with the Chaos Theory. (5:16)
- In what can only be interpreted as a show of force, as the match progressed Starboy Charlie, Marcus Mathers, Brogan Finlay, Billie Starkz, and Kylie Paige made their way out from the curtain and lined the aisle. After the match, Titus Alexander got on the microphone and said he gets the message, there are five of you here today and eight or so in total and he's all alone. But what they need to understand is that while they still don't have a name, what they do have is a whole lot of enemies they've made since coming to CORE and that he's not the one that should be looking over their shoulder. Titus Alexander defiantly walked down the aisle past the encroachers.
SEGMENT SIX (FOUR MINUTES):
- Promotional consideration paid for by the following: Bar Keepers Friend: Cleaning stainless is painless. When your bathroom is a disaster, clean it faster. Available in powder, cream, or spray. Wiffle: Wiffle Bat & Ball sets available wherever fun is sold. Nothing curves like a Wiffle Ball! Brer Rabbit Molasses: Discover the flavor secret of Molasses! Available in three varieties, Blackstrap, Mild, and Full Flavor.
- A brief interview aired with Marcus Mathers and Brogan Finlay promoting their match next week with the Von Triers and they were joined by Kylie Paige who will also be in action next week.
- Sudu Upadhyay bid farewell to the fans until next week and threw to Larry Zbyskzo who asked for this time to apologize for his actions earlier in the show. Larry Zbyskzo told the viewers he truly regrets his actions earlier in the day; that he should have taken that steel chair to the ring far earlier in the match and wrapped it around the head of Chore Boy Charlie.
Upcoming Shows:
CORE Pro #116 The Panic In Pillow Park 06/10/23 Pillow Park - Pillow, Pennsylvania 01. Something/Nothing (Jake Something and Vincent Nothing) with UltraMantis Black vs. The OutRunners (Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd) 02. SAKI vs. Giant Baba Yaga (with UltraMantis Black) 03. Athena, Raychell Rose, and Queen Aminata vs. Billie Starkz, Kenzie Paige, and Kylie Paige 04. Titus Alexander vs. Kerry Morton

In the US and California in particular, a new wealthy class has been moving from suburbs to cities and displacing the urban working-class population. In San Francisco, billionaires and the ascendant class of wealthy tech workers moved into a city with all that urban life entails – noise, homelessness, people of many economic and racial backgrounds in close proximity, etc – and have responded by trying to turn the city into the suburbs. As the housing crisis worsens and cities become more wealthy and more unequal, we will see a sort of reverse of the white flight of the 1950s and 60s and the suburban tax revolts of the late 1970s, as the new urban ruling classes seek to instate a homogeneous society in place of the bustling, messy, diverse, cultured places they inherited.
Crime has been rising nationwide at about the same rate, with no correlation whatsoever to progressive prosecutors or city governments
The final prong of the recall effort was a massive campaign by the media, which has ramped up around the country. Boudin’s tenure was marked by breathless coverage of crime and increasing media alarmism about the city becoming a war zone. Hundreds of articles have been written in San Francisco and elsewhere attributing rising crime to progressive prosecutors and criminal justice reform.
This hysteria is largely evidence-free: crime has been rising nationwide at about the same rate, with no correlation whatsoever to progressive prosecutors or city governments. In fact, cities with Republican mayors and prosecutors are far more dangerous. Republican-governed Jacksonville, for example, is about the same size as San Francisco and has three times the murder rate. The media, however, has focused almost exclusively on progressive-run jurisdictions. In San Francisco, people were whipped into a frenzy, despite the fact that the city is vastly safer than it was for most of the previous 50 years.
Boudin’s recall is the tip of the spear of reaction, rather than just one example of backlash against progressive governance. San Francisco is a unique city that, despite its left-leaning reputation, gave unique opportunities for conservative forces to move so aggressively. For one, Boudin only won in the first place with 36% of the vote, hardly a clear mandate. Indeed, the 40% who voted to retain him demonstrates that, if anything, he gained support over his tenure.
In contrast, the handy re-election victories of progressive prosecutors Larry Krasner in Philadelphia and Kim Foxx in Chicago further demonstrate Boudin’s unique vulnerability. Krasner and Foxx both lost white voters, winning re-election on the back of large margins from the Latino and especially Black voters who together make up a majority of both their districts. In San Francisco, however, Black people and Latinos together make up just 20% of the population, with Black residents alone just 5% of residents.
San Francisco is also vastly wealthier than most other American cities, leaving a much smaller base of people affected by policies that primarily harm poor and marginalized people. The election map shows that support for the recall was strongest in the wealthiest areas. In Philadelphia, someone seeing a homeless encampment on their way to work is likely to be a working-class person; in San Francisco, there’s a decent chance this person is a millionaire or even billionaire who will make their distaste everyone’s problem.
——
@thehungrycity - this piece from today summarizes some of the issues that became apparent by very late in the evening this past Tuesday, when I — with depressingly sincere sadness and nervousness — held a funeral for the progressive left in the US.
I’ve been seeing very strong signs of ALL OF THE ABOVE growing in recent years and the local elections held last Nov were… troubling. I was also kicked out of the local dems (removed from their local roll/list) for being too progressive (and my record is pretty public in their records given things I have done for the party so…. Yeah).
The other things to keep in mind are that the democrats have, historically, been a right of center party until a huge progressive push moved them left of center. During the Clinton years? Right of center. Failed candidates who ran against Bush Jr? Right of center. The democratic party platform during Obama’s 2008 campaign? Right. of. Center. The slow and steady push left began in 2012. But now it is swinging back to the right because a lot of $$$powerful$$$ forces are making The New Urban High Income White Households very very nervous. Also, these private school educated folks merely think they are left because they are left of their christian suburban parents.
Anyhow, I CONSTANTLY hear lots of nervous nelly talk from my neighbors, ESPECIALLY women, regardless if they are 28 or 68. Fear of urban complexity. Fear of homeless people sleeping in front of their $6/per coffee cafe. Constant nonstop chatter about “suspicious” looking people walking too slowly past their “in this house we believe sign.” The gentrifiers are, as expected, swinging the dems back to the center right and when forced between a vote for a progressive (especially if a WOC) and a respectable “Soft” republican, they’ll fill in the circle next to the republican’s name. This isn’t hyperbole. The data is there. Prior voting patterns are available at the level of 500 households per aggregate. And the experiences of prior organizers, behind the scenes workers, and delegates (self included) are all there if you start asking questions in the correct places.
Additionally……… (ominous ellipses). Hm…..
Additionally, there are far too many signs that “Educated Professional America” is attempting to wipe its hands of everything to do with the progressive movements of the past 1-2 decades. Actually, I would like to see a social historian compare this modern (2020s) backing away from progressivism to what happened in 1980 in the US, when the US also took a big step backwards away from all of the advancements made during the 60s and 70s. I suspect there are solid parallels based on what I know/knew/heard from people a generation or more older than me.
And this isn’t me being a party pooper on progressivism— I STRONGLY believe (even more now than I did in 2012-14) that progressives need to focus and regroup. But there is a propaganda war against progressivism that is far older than the oldest progressives alive today. And suburban professional class people are a nervous bunch by nature (prior generations back that would have been primarily been White Protestant Americans but in more recent decades it also includes everyone who aspires for Americanized Whiteness(tm)) — i worried about what that would mean for urban areas and it has proven to play out much as I thought it would.
Sadly, so many things I predicted in the 00s and the 20-teens have come to pass.
Right now— I am very concerned about where the median will be in american politics because it is swinging back to the right and swinging fast.
For where america stands against other nations (yes, this is a little old- from 2019), see this:
