The you have any headcanon about Perrine and The Croon?
Perrine has an affinity for skulls because of The Croon, and they’re mainly the reason why she likes to collect them
The Croon refers to her as “calf”
Perrine sometimes catches glimpses of a tall figure out of her window at night, standing among the distant trees, hidden by just enough shadow to make her wonder if she’s just seeing things
The Croon gifts her skulls, bones, and small dead animals
When people say The Croon is evil, she’s the first to jump to its defense
However, Perrine does have a healthy dose of fear for The Croon
She doesn’t know why this is
But there’s always a level of wariness she feels towards it
There was this one night…
It was cold. The wind was blowing. Branches brushing against the cottage were like clawing fingers on the walls, desperate to get inside.
Perrine woke up.
Or maybe she had never fallen asleep in the first place.
She couldn’t remember.
It didn’t matter.
She got up from her bed.
All around her, the moonlight bleeding in through her window pooled ghoulishly into the empty black eyes of her animal skulls.
It felt like they were all watching her.
At first, she had gotten up to get a glass of water. Her mouth was dry, and the space behind her eyes was uncomfortably warm. But at the same time, she was covered in goosebumps.
But then, she found herself drawn outside.
Grass crunched under bare feet.
She didn’t even flinch from the cold.
Like she was in some kind of trance, she found herself delving into the woods.
And then, she saw it.
The towering beast of feathers and bone. It stood among the trees, nearly obscured by darkness.
The Croon.
She was scared.
She wasn’t sure why she was scared. She based her whole image around this beast, after all. She wore the moose mask because of it.
And yet…she trembled.
And then, she spoke.
“What’s the point of you?”
She asked it without thinking. It was a question that had been brewing in her head for ages.
“I mean…you embody and represent chaos…”
The Croon tilted their head for a moment, as if considering the question. The quiet night air was tense.
“Chaos…is beautiful and destructive. It’s everywhere, and it’s all-consuming. It doesn’t need any apparent purpose. It merely is. It destroys and makes and changes…over and over again. That is what I represent. Change is necessary. Everything must die, and from the destruction, something new is born. After a wildfire, flowers will bloom from the ashes.”
“But people like the flowers. Not the fire.”
“Perhaps. But they need the fire. They need the chaos and the change. Even if it destroys them. There is no new life without death, and there is no death without chaos.”
“But, you still destroy things. Why can’t you have something new without destruction? Why change?”
“Destruction..is just part of the cycle. It’s a part of change. There is beauty in decay. Death and destruction can be…art. The changing of the seasons, the wilting of flowers, the withering fall leaves… Even the most positive change is destruction for something else. Destruction and chaos are required for rebirth, for evolution. Because of change, everything is different, and everything is unique. There are no two things that are exactly the same, down to the last detail.”
“My friend, Cole, lost their parents in a horrible way. Is that supposed to be beautiful? Or necessary?”
“…Perhaps not. Not all destruction is beautiful or necessary. But not all death is cruel or senseless either. After all…without death, would you appreciate life at all? When an animal dies, and it decomposes, the earth gains the nutrients it gives to grow new flowers and new grass. New life. Even a death as horrible and cruel as that can still give new life to the plants and earth around it. It is the same with humans. A death, even a cruel and horrible one, can lead to new life for the remaining family or loved ones…or to the end of a destructive, hurtful cycle.”
“Cole has suffered since their parents’ death. There was no hurtful cycle to break! It’s not fair!”
“Death isn’t fair.”
Its voice had dropped to a low, almost guttural growl that shook her to the bones. But its empty eye sockets still held an eerie sense of calm.
“Life…isn’t fair. People die. Families are torn apart, homes and villages are destroyed. It’s the nature of the world. It’s a necessary evil.”
“…I don’t want to be a necessary evil.”

When the Stars Align
RegencyLark Part 1 | RegencyLark Part 2 | RegencyLark Part 3
She needs to find a husband. She came to the conclusion within an hour of Peeta’s return.
After she’d seen him, she’d wandered the streets aimlessly, unable to return to his home, for that’s what it was; his. She’s been living on Peeta’s charity these last two years, though that’s not entirely true. She’s been managing the estate in his absence which must count for something.
She’d only come to town this year for Primrose’s debut season, but now she’s glad of it. She’ll need to begin her search immediately, so she changes direction towards the Odair house to speak to Finnick on the matter.
~~~
As a child Katniss had assumed her life would always be an endless string of golden days; Her parents were hopelessly in love and she had the most perfect companion in her sweet little sister. Though they weren’t rich they lived comfortably and most importantly, they were happy. But then at eleven her father had died and she’d watched her mother die a slow and agonizing death from a broken heart. Their modest house was entailed to a distant cousin who was only fourteen himself with a mother and three siblings to support as well and Katniss’s days had faded to a dull gray hue while the Everdeen sisters had mourned their parents and struggled to adjust to their new lives.
Then her God-father, Lord Abernathy, had discovered their situation and invited them to live on his estate as his wards, and while their days had brightened to a rosier glow, Katniss could never forget the hollow look in her mother’s eyes in the weeks after her father’s death as she slipped away from them. Katniss would not allow that to happen to her. She knew she must marry one day, but she swore to herself that she’d never fall in love.
Luckily, she was friends with Finnick Odair; a staple of fashionable society and as such a collector of confidences. When she’d told him of her resolve, he’d been determined to assist her; To not love a husband was one thing, but to not respect him another.
An Earl was much more than the unexceptional daughter of an unknown gentleman could have expected, but they both had trusted Finnick’s judgment in the matter. He’d introduced them at a ball and though many found Graham Mellark’s reserve off-putting, she’d seen the practicality in the man who spoke directly to the purpose or not at all.
He’d called at Abernathy place the next morning where they’d shared tea in companionable silence and within the month they were married.
The first few weeks of their marriage, however, had been painfully awkward. Katniss might have begun to second guess her decision, had it not been for her new brother-in-law. Peeta began visiting frequently and seemed to always know just what to say to lighten the mood and put them both at ease. She realized she had never heard her husband’s laugh before his brother had visited. It had been Peeta who had given her hope that her marriage wasn’t a mistake, but beyond that, she’d enjoyed his company on its own merits. It wasn’t long before she had considered him among her closest acquaintances.
But then Graham had died and despite her careful planning and arranging she’d crumbled, because in the end, she had loved him in her own way. It wasn’t a desperate, wild, romantic love like her parents, but one born of familiarity, friendship, and mutual support.
Worse still, along the way she’d lost Peeta as well and although he’s returned in body, she will not allow herself to believe that they can ever be as they once were.
~~~
“I’m in need of a husband,” she announces as soon as the drawing room doors close behind her.
Finnick doesn’t seem surprised, appraising her over his cup of tea before speaking, “This is sudden.”
“Peeta- eh. The Earl of Bakerston has returned home.”
He nods his head, “then this seems an easy solution. You already hold the title, already live on the property and know the estate, you are both unattached, and last I saw, you are both mad for one another.”
She jerks back at his declaration, before she begins shaking her head, the force making her dizzy. “No. No, no, you are mistaken, we are friends… or we were friends… but that was long ago. I have not had a single word from him in two years!” She begins pacing the room and the words begin tumbling out, “oh Finnick, I don’t know what to do. He just… left. I know he had every right to do it. But oh, how I needed him. No, I am certain that he hates me. He would not have gone otherwise. Yes, he was mourning his brother, but so was I! Would it not have been natural for us to find solace in one another?”
“Only too natural and likely why he felt he must put distance between you two.”
Even in her grief she’d known how improper it was for her to ask Peeta to hold her as she’d fallen asleep. She’d asked too much of him. She was not his responsibility and making herself so had driven him away. She hazards a glance in Finnick’s direction to see if he knows the truth of it, but he’s wearing an impassive expression. She shakes her head before continuing, “And now he’s come back, to claim his dues, find his own countess and sire an heir. I have no legal right to any of it. I am at his whim, he could toss me out at a moment's notice. There’s no room for me in Bakerston any longer. Nor at Abernathy house.”
“He has told you this?”
“No, his arrival took me by surprise. I have yet to speak to him.” Oh, she was a coward.
“Ah, yes. That sounds correct.” She scowls at her friend but he waves a dismissive hand, “Sit down, lest you wear a hole in the rug.”
She sinks down on the sofa, “so will you help me?”
“Katniss, I am still not convinced my assistance is necessary. You really should speak to him. Unless you plan to uproot to Abernathy house in the interim, you’ll be sharing a home.”
She makes a distressed noise in the back of her throat. Surely he would take the Earl’s room right beside her own. The idea of sharing a wall feels… intimate. The act of an Earl and his Countess, not a man and his dowager burden. She hadn’t thought that far ahead. Perhaps she could have her things moved down the hall?
“Katniss, I know your reasons for seeking an uncomplicated match the first time, but now that you’ve weathered the worst and come out the other side, would it not be better to take your time and marry for affection? You will not need my help for that.”
She rubs her temples. She was relying on his continued understanding on this front. She wonders when he’s become such a romantic.
He sighs , “well if you are determined, I will only ask that you speak to Peeta before I lend my services.”
It seems a fair enough price, she’ll have to speak to him sooner or later anyways, so she nods, “consider it done, but ready your recommendations, for I am certain I’ll be in need a husband before the season is through.”

If any wishes to reply or dm me with reasons why you personally enjoy nark as a ship that would be greatly appreciated just so I have multiple angles on why people enjoy it (if I use anything from what you say you will be credited in the vid and probably everyone who helps out in anyway will at least be shouted out)

I feel like what hurts me most about Sparrow being all “I’m not proud of you” isn’t that he said it, cause I could already kinda guess that from the first scene.
It’s just that normal doesn’t seem to have had any inclination of it prior. Like, to him that’s just his dad being his dad. Not his dad trying to nudge him into being more normal.
And that’s exactly why Normal believes his dad hates him (at least in my mind). Cause as humans we are built to remember the bad as a way of survival, and normal probably can only think about the times he’s seen his dad cringe and how he’s so stupid for just thinking his dad was worried (even if he was worried and not in fact cringing.) like every memory gets corrupted with this new realization. When Teeny won the mascot contest was your dad actually smiling at how happy you were or was he just avoiding a scene, Did he actually enjoy watching those anime movies with you and hero when you were little or are you misremembering, was your uncle trying to warn you that you shouldn’t trust when your dad says he loves you, and so on and so on.

do NOT like how some people r saying that the lark not being addressed with gendered terms or not having genders is “mystical” or whatever because it feels incredibly dehumanizing. i get it if they haven’t seen people use those kinds of terms before but it is REAL and it EXISTS. saying the lark is mystical and unique because they don’t have genders is just. i don’t like

The Talk (page 4)
Doodler AU post || start || previous || next ||
Sparrow’s turn to go “he just like me fr” with the Doodler. All the Oaks r Doodler kinnies 😤
This comic takes place shortly after the Doodler’s homunculus body was made. Lark and Sparrow try to figure out how they feel about the situation.
Dialogue under the cut!
Sparrow: Lark, what did they say?
Lark: …
Lark: It wants to try having a normal human childhood.
Sparrow: oh.
Lark: It’s not going to work. The world doesn’t work that way.
Sparrow: …Well why not?
#dndads#dungons and daddies#dungeons and daddies season 2#dndads s2#sparrow oak#lark oak#the doodler#doodle dot au#cal draws#thetalkcomic#I’m putting this out there before the new episode drops 😭#i hope my characterization works lmao idk if I’ve been getting across what I want with lark and sparrow#my thought process is that lark seems to be very focused on like… self punishing#well both the twins are in s2 I think but the way Lark goes about it is very physical while Sparrow is mental#Lark dedicates practically his whole life to killing the doodler as both a form of mercy and attonent#he sees a lot of himself in the Doodler and for Lark there’s no escaping that self hatred from you past actions#and so he doesn’t think it’s possible to start fresh and anew because he can’t comprehend forgiving yourself#or like forgiveness in general I think#But the Doodler is changed here. they’re not the same being Lark saw into the mind of all those years ago#and Lark is like. now being confronted with the idea that someone who’s like him can try to forgive themselves and seek happiness anyways#while Sparrow doesn’t have the same insight into what the Doodler is or what it’s like as Lark and Normal do#so he has these conflicting stories from two very important people in his life and he’s just not sure what to make of it#but dad brain is dad brain and right now Dot looks A LOT like Hero and Normal when they were younger#so logically he knows he should be wary but like it’s hard to stay fearful mad and upset at someone who looks like ur 8 ur old kid#so he’s been playing mediator while he tries to figure the situation out#but the additional info that Dot also has a want for normalcy like he does tips the scales a little bit I think#if that makes any sense lol

Story time:
-so I very very rarely will buy a book. I am an avid user of my local libraries, but I think the last book I purchased just to read (and not school or gift related) was about a decade ago (and it was in a little market cause I was about to get on a plane and had read everything I had brought with me as this was way prior to my current e-reader phase). And yet, I have purchased a physical, paperback novel. Which book, you may ask, has broken this decade long drought?
-some background: my favorite animated movie is Anastasia. I was that little girl obsessed with the Russian Revolution. When I grew up I wanted to be the person that solved the mystery of what had happened to her (aka I wanted to discover she had found a Dimitri and they had many descendants hanging around I could interview). I was sad for a week when the news came out that she did not survive.
-I don’t think Anastasia is the best animated film ever, but to this day it is still my favorite animated film (I think it’s important that people are able to differentiate between favorite vs best. There is a lot of media out there I acknowledge is fantastic, but just not my cup of tea. And vice versa). Anya/Dimitri have always been one of my top tier couples. Soundtrack is great. I was fortunate enough to cross off seeing the stage version on my bucket list a few years back. I think I have read the majority of Anastasia fan fiction (Anastasia Retold by J Fontaine being one of my fave fics ever).
-and then I just happened to see this book called Anastasia by Sophie Lark. And the blurb says it’s not based on any previous Anastasia story, but there are illustrations and it is giving off MAJOR 1997 Anastasia vibes. I mean…there’s the music box and she looks extremely similar to the animated version and her love interest is named Damien (and why does this ward plot sound so familiar, I kinda think I may have read a blurb like this on fanfiction.net years ago…) And then I read a bit more and realize oh ho this is complete AU alt history just like My Lady Jane (which I have very recently started) with magic powers and I am now intrigued (cause honestly, if you’re gonna do a myth version where she survives, I think going all in on a completely different universe is the way to go, cause you can never please everyone trying to be historically accurate while changing a crucial historical detail).
-I know nothing about this author (her other books aren’t really my genre so am nervous what that means for this one) but it is bought and ordered and I want to like it SO BAD
