“Yes, of course.” He glanced up from the laptop she’d given him to set up. It was simply easier to have him adjust it to his liking than for either her or Remus to guess what he’d need and sort the thing out.

“Good. Here’s a project that’s nearly done. It’s an Industrial style conference room for an Engineering Firm. I want you to look it over and familiarise yourself with my process, every step is outlined here. If you have any suggestions or see areas that could be changed for functionality reasons, mark your comments here,” she said, tapping on the appropriate empty rectangle. “I want your contributions documented, so that you can begin building a design portfolio.”

“I will definitely have suggestions,” he replied.

Rosier bit down on his bottom lip as if he were holding back a smile. She’d seen the same look on Remus’s face when he was having a go at her, but to her surprise, Rosier sifted through the file with an eagerness she hadn’t expected.

“Alice from Fortescue & Finch is on the phone,” Remus said, gesturing at the black headset he’d just pulled off. “Do you have a mo’ for her?”

Lily nodded and briskly walked back into her office. “Send it through.”

When her phone rang, she answered with her customer service voice automatically. After three years in a call center during uni, it was second nature to smile and adopt an overly friendly tone the moment she had a client on the line. “Evans Interiors, this is Lily Evans, how can I help you?”

“Hello, Lily,” a warm, genuine voice answered. 

“Alice! Thank you for returning my call. Have we a decision on the chairs for your father’s office?”

The heavy sigh that came through the line caught Lily off-guard. Alice was the daughter of the CEO, Florean Fortescue, and managed their corporate contracts. She’d also been the only person who answered the phone when Remus started calling the numbers on file from their initial consultation. 

“You haven’t heard,” Alice said. “Father passed last week.”

Lily gasped, “Oh, I–I’m so sorry, Alice! I had no idea.”

Mr. Fortescue was a kind, compassionate man. A rarity for CEOs and solicitors, in her experience. It was truly a shock to hear that he’d passed away, despite his age. She hadn’t heard anything about him being ill or failing.

Alice sighed heavily, and Lily visualized the woman rubbing her temples. It was a common gesture while they were discussing the budget for this project. Her father was quite frugal and insisted on keeping it as low cost as possible, but Alice had pushed him to be a tad more flexible for quality furniture. It was not an easy negotiation.

“Thank you,” Alice said, swallowing hard. There was a long pause before she carried on. “So, we won’t need to worry about picking out chairs. In fact, I’ll have to rework this entire project. I’m so glad we haven't started the install yet.”

Now was not the time to mention that Lily had already placed several orders that would need to be cancelled as soon as possible. As she made the appropriate sympathetic hums and apology for her loss, she quickly whipped out her mobile and tapped out a text to Remus so that he could start on that now. At least she isn’t cancelling it outright. “Rework” probably means his replacement wants a different look. I can do that.

“Was there anything from the original design that you’d like to keep?” she checked, thumb hovering over the screen. 

“No, no. Our styles are polar opposites. I prefer rich colours to solid neutrals,” Alice said.

Lily’s heart leapt into her throat, her pulse thrumming with excitement. She swallowed it down, trying not to expose her eagerness while discussing this woman’s loss. Relax, Lily. Her father just died, you twit. 

“Are you stepping in as CEO then?” Lily asked.

“Well, yes. My father’s share of the business is now mine, but his business partner is in a tiff about having a ‘female’ as his equal. Old guard misogynist nonsense,” Alice grumbled.

Lily scoffed, “Such tosh! You were up for partner soon anyway, weren’t you?”

“Of course I was, and my father was thrilled about it! I didn’t realise Finch opposed it until after father passed.”

“Well, I think you will be a fantastic CEO, Alice. You have my condolences. Do let me know if you need anything, even if it’s someone to commiserate with, and I’ll be happy to pop by. There’s no time limit on this project either, so until you’re ready, I’ll put a pin in it,” Lily assured her. 

From the very first meeting with Alice, she’d wanted to befriend her. Alice was impressive, and a little intimidating at first. Simply because of just how accomplished she was! She was trilingual, thanks to a French father and Hispanic mother, as well as strong-willed and clever. Lily liked her immediately. As her client, any sort of personal relationship was unprofessional to pursue, but she refused to put the same caveat on friendship. 

Making friends as an adult is hard enough, thank you very much!

There was a smile in Alice’s voice now, “Thank you, Lily. That means more than you know, especially from a business owner such as yourself.”

“When things are settled, we should meet for lunch. I would be happy to share the joys and miseries of business ownership with you,” Lily suggested.

“Oh, that sounds lovely! Yes, let’s do. Friday work for you? Around eleven o’clock?” Alice asked, a keyboard tapping in the background.

“Perfect! See you then,” Lily agreed readily, “and I truly mean it, Alice. Call me anytime. You have my mobile number, yes?”

“I do. Thanks again, Lily. Goodbye.”

As she ended the call, a giddy stream of joy surged through Lily’s chest. A feeling she hadn’t experienced since hitting it off with Mary and Marlene in uni. It was as though a siren shrieked friendship potential in her mind, but instead of hitting the panic button, she shimmied with delight.

“Eleven on Friday?” Remus asked, peering in her office. He smirked at her mini-celebration. “Did you really just land a date with a client while giving condolences? I don’t even know where to start.”

“It’s not a date! It’s lunch with a potential client, since her project is on hold,” Lily corrected, attempting to reassert her professional demeanor. At his amused expression, she gave in to a grin and whispered, “I think I made a friend, Remus.”

He pointed at her faux-sternly, unable to wipe his own grin away completely. “Friends are fine. No sleeping with clients, that’s your rule, I’m just reminding you of it.”

sooooo excited to answer this!! i’m doing this on mobile so the formatting will probably be shit but my laptop is being serviced at the moment so well… and i’m really happy you differentiated platonic and romantic szam because i have different thoughts for both sides! i’m also gonna be using their first names because they feel like family to me today. anyways this post is long so…

generally i think they’re not getting any less toxic with each other lol. in the movie, kohei gave me the vibe of someone who’s been betrayed and used for his money by people he cared about or maybe considered his friends in the years he spent without ryo, which resulted in him becoming mistrustful of people and sealing himself away from creating bonds (which is preposterous to people like fujio because hello? this whole series is about forming bonds. get it together kohei!). so while kohei is doing his whole isolation from humanity bit, ryo enters as someone he used to know and used to know him. but that him is dead now, right? kohei isn’t the same as he was when they were 8 and ryo was his friend who shared promises and sodas with him. that kohei is sooooo dead. except he’s not. and ryo’s devotion and mental illness managed to wake that side of him back up from its slumber. this sets the scene for ryo being something like an exception to kohei, because ryo genuinely cares about him beyond his name and the depths of his pockets, he’s a person from a simpler time in kohei’s life, and despite everything kohei has said, he still harbours affection for that boy. and now ryo is crying like a baby on the floor in front of everyone they somewhat know after losing the goddamn fight and getting stabbed, and kohei isn’t even really angry. (did ryo ever get his hand stitched up btw? go to the hospital bruh)

now i have two ways this next part can go. let’s start with the idea that they actually do end up staying with each other and then my second idea that they don’t

onto present day, let’s talk about what i think about their relationship post movie, after crying on the floor like a baby, ryo makes up with kohei and they somewhat restore their friendship. but like i said earlier, ryo is an exception to his wah wah i hate people and friends are a waste of time schtick. plus he beat up or bribed almost everyone in the cast so nobody would even want to be his friend anyway? so basically ryo is his only friend and because of ryo’s nature, kohei is also his only friend, not because ryo can’t make other friends, i envision him as being quite popular actually with his strength and his awkward babygirlness that has charmed the masses, anyways its not because theres a shortage of people who want to be friends with ryo but rather there’s a shortage of people who ryo wants to be friends with (he’s got a list and it’s just kohei’s name on a sheet of paper). anyways, as i was saying ryo is literally all kohei has at this point, and stupid saboten but nobody wants to be friends w him, so hes probably really insecure and possessive over ryo. ryo could leave him at any moment (he wouldn’t. they’re for lifers in ryo’s head) and kohei can’t have that happening, not when ryo is basically the only person on earth who loves him and who he cares about at all. that’s his tether to his humanity. he needs ryo with him no matter what. and because ryo is mentally ill and has attachment issues, he indulges and fuels kohei’s possessiveness and allows it to grow and grow until their worlds literally just center each other.

like i’m sorry but i can’t see their relationship ever being healthy. this is batshit insane amagai kohei and devoted guard dog suzaki ryo we’re talking about.

in my second scenario, they split. kohei is actually kinda pissed about what ryo did in the final arc and drops his ass. he learns absolutely nothing in the fight. of course, this is kinda disputed by the final scene where he calls ryo his friend and they’re still clearly together. though in my head, as a suzaki ryo worshipper, i think it might actually be possible for him to break the chain and get out of his terrible situation. as much as i like my szam, they’re awful for each other and it’s far more detrimental to ryo than it is for kohei, they have an awful power imbalance and kohei didn’t treat ryo well. of course, kohei is mid without ryo’s aid, in a fight against a badly injured tsukasa he almost died real bad, so i doubt he’d let the only person who still ate from his hand after oya n the others cornered them in the gym go. ryo would probably be punished for losing and ryo, being ryo, would take it quietly and suffer for the rest of his life.

ANYWAYS with all that out of the way, let’s dive into my headcanons. i’ll start with the romantic ones because i love my doomed yaoi like that and then write a list of stuff that can be either romantic or platonic because i believe you can’t actually have a romantic relationship without a platonic one.

kohei is a proud lover. everytime he speaks to someone about ryo he refers to him as my boyfriend, my lover, etc. ryo is wayyyy more reserved than that and barely talks to people, so you’ll have to glean how much he likes kohei from his body language

kohei is jealous as fuck their relationship is like the “you’re the most jealous man i know” “you know other men?” post (y’all watch cherry magic) his stomach starts hurting when ryo so much as looks at another person. ryo could beat a guy up and he’d be like “you should’ve touched him less while punching him.”

anything ryo wants, if it’s in kohei’s power, ryo will get. kohei doesn’t know how to be normal about showering his only friend with gifts and doing things for him. of course, ryo is a very simple guy and doesn’t actually ever ask for anything.

REQUIREMENTS: A wired home computer or laptop wired into the system Cyan has set up. Phones, tablets, and other mobile devices still do not work, as they cannot be connected to the wired network that makes up the entirety of the computers Cyan was given access to. Game consoles can also make use of this functionality to play 'local' games together but remotely. THERE IS NO WAY TO USE THIS FUNCTIONALITY ON THE GO, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A WIRED CONNECTION, PHONES AND TABLETS CAN BE SIDELOADED WITH THE INFORMATION, BUT ARE NOT ON THE NETWORK. Each computer must also load into the secondary OS, iNARIiOS, to access the network as a whole, though this is simple enough, as Cyan has left a desktop shortcut for this- a neon blue and purple fox clutching a scroll in it's mouth.

MESSAGING APPLICATION: YATAGARASU aka "CarrierCrow"

A Chatroom system with usernames, profile images, status messages, and 'group' options, CarrierCrow is the IM service of iNARiOS. stylized with the presence of a 3 legged crow and a sleek black and gold theming, it takes a lot of functionality similarities from discord, just heavily stunted, a basic text display in the center of the screen with messages tagged by usernames. This also contains the email system, allowing users to send messages in real time and into a holding inbox as well. There's cute little emoticons too- themed after the animal gods used in the applications.

DOCUMENT SHARING/CALENDAR WORKSPACES: KOMAINU aka "LionShare"

The workspace app themed after komainu statues, LionShare is where document writing and sharing, calendars, spreadsheets, and other file sharing is carried out, each user has their own specific key, and folders and documents can be set to be accessed by only specific keys, or the entire town, depending on the wants of those making the documents/calendars/sheets/etc. It carries over the usernames from within CarrierCrow, for ease of access, and Cyan has made a handful of public tutorial documents for the applications in iNARiOS, as well as an auto-updating spreadsheet including the screen names and contact information of the people around town, just in case you need to get in touch- but you'll still need their permission to send messages.

GAMES AND ENTERTAINMENT: KIRIN

KIRIN is a small-scale entertainment launcher containing games created by K1TSUN3 CO, a brightly colored, friendly logo of a scaled unicorn greeting users. It currently contains both games for PC, and ones that can be sideloaded onto compatible smart phones.

-Pocket Inari: A virtual pet akin to Tamagotchi featuring the animal characters of the OS itself in many colors, patterns, and pre-programmed personalities, it's simplistic, but with over 60 collectable characters and a charming, plinky set of chiptunes of modern songs, it's a solid distraction.

-K1TSUN3 KHA0S: A slash-em-up dungeon crawler featuring a fox-masked cyberpunk protagonist fighting their way through a neon lit, monster infested future, it features around 40 levels and a in-built progression system and a surprisingly capable story, for something a handful of criminals wrote to steal data, initially. It's known for being quite difficult- at least it's cross-progression between the PC and mobile versions.

-Turnibs: A cute farming sim game akin to stardew valley or story of seasons, once again you take the role of one of the handful of animal gods (a Fox, a Crow, A stone Lion, a moon-rabbit, or a dragon-like Unicorn) in a cutesy pixel style, running a small farm outside of a town populated by similar creatures. it's rather bare bones, but is cozy, peaceful, with lots of customization of the farm, farmhouse, and player character. It's multiplayer too- just have to enter the code on the main screen to become a turnip capitalist together!

-Megalophobia: a text based horror RPG, placing the player in the shoes of a survivor of a zombie apocalypse- Cyan considered not adding this one, but given it's 70+ hours of play time through multiple endings and builds, he included it anyway- The rangers at the stations tend to like it, though.

-Moon Bunny's Cafe: the only appearance of Moon Bunny as a large theme and not an emote/player character, Moon Bunny Cafe is a match-4 puzzle game like candy crush, with a cooking mama-like set of mini games as well. Collect your ingredients by solving puzzles, then help moon bunny run her cafe by slicing, baking, and decorating various cakes, sweets, and making teas and coffee.
