Birders who visit the tundra in summer will find Lapland Longspurs very common almost everywhere there, the bright males singing their short warbling songs from hummocks or rocks or while flying. In winter the birds come south in flocks, to forage in windswept fields. Although they range widely across the continent, the vast majority winter on the Great Plains, where flocks in the thousands seem to reflect the abundance of the species on its northern nesting grounds."

This is your sign to turn your friend group into sonas for a fandom. Today, I bring you my buddies in the style of the movie Migration! Meet Tobi the Dickcissel and Mira the Lapland Longspur.

It's such a wholesome movie, I immediately wanted to give us a similar story. Tobi is my irl brother, you might recognise his name from the rottmnt oc I made for him. In this story we are two little songbirds from a Canadian wetland who choose to go on our own journey of discovery, and make friends along the way. Or I suppose— Tobi makes friends, and I worry for my life. Tobi believes he can befriend anyone, and that is immediately put to the test.

Meet Vrek the Harris's Hawk. Vrek also has a rottmnt version ;D. They're lucky he has a soft spot for creatures he can protect.

Tobi wastes no time in making another friend, Sam the Barn Owl. Sam's chaotic energy reminds me of the Herons from the movie XD. Sam is from France both irl and in the story. They have a rich French accent and a slightly different way of speaking English, which only serves to add to their chaos.

Tobi's not the only one to make friends, though. When they're close to their final destination, they meet Lachlan the Roseate Spoonbill and Taylor the Steller's Jay, though they don't join the group. Mira grows quite close with them, leaving to visit them often even once the group settles on Vancouver Island.

They are not proportional to each other in this drawing, I know Roseate Spoonbills are not that big 😭

I gave them a lil playlist too, which is mostly journey-related nostalgic animated movie songs like Bolt, Ice Age or Brother Bear, stuff like that!

I REALLY wish I had a high resolution of this painting, another in oils, from quite few years ago.  It is approximately life size and shows Horned Larks, Snow Buntings and Lapland Longspurs (and in fact, also as they would appear in February).  It sold quickly to that collector in Maine.
