kiss me under the stars
a/n: au future fic/au after “change your mind” or Lapis has been alone her entire life, until she came to Earth (lapidot, lapis-centric)
―
(The galaxies are calling out to her like black cicadas in the night.
Lapis Lazuli has always been drawn to outer space - to worlds that go beyond just what she knows. Because she’s heard stories, about Earth. Of bodies of water filled with salt, and white sandy mountains that are cold as ice. Heated muddy hills that explode in fire. Skies that have clouds who cry.
She keeps it a secret though, because you see, the place she’s from has so many rules. She’s not allowed to dream.
She’s not allowed to want.
Lapis gazes out towards the planets - with desire).
―
Peridot is restless while everyone else is sleeping.
Strangely, this big, big house shaped like a giant woman - is suddenly starting to feel too small. With the Crystal Gems opening their doors to some of the newly healed corrupted gems, the Off-Colors, Bismuth, Pumpkin and Lapis, the place was becoming extremely crowded. There was no way of getting comfortable. So yeah, she couldn’t sleep at all. Which is not something she necessarily needed, but it was nice, every once in a while.
Peridot jumped out of the bathtub where she had been trying to rest. She made her way towards the door that led to the balcony. She was surprised to see that it was left open. And sitting there with her legs dangling over the edge was no one other than Lapis Lazuli.
“What are you doing up so late?” She blurts out, knowing that even though slumber was not necessary for any gem, it was something Lapis quite enjoyed.
There must be a good reason why she was avoiding it.
“The stars,” Lapis slowly says, “I can’t see them from here,” she mentions, thinking back to their days at the barn, to when she used to watch the galaxies burn bright as fire.
Peridot takes a seat beside her. “One of the unfortunate things that happens when the humans use these artificial lights so much,” she sighs. “I believe it’s called the ‘electricity’,” she firmly says.
“You mean the bulbs,” Lapis corrects her, sounding snarky.
She always knows more than she leads on - she’s always one thought ahead of Peridot.
“Right, those,” the green gem whispers instead, ignoring her torn heart.
She then notices the small smile plastered on Lapis’ lips and recalls how she used to wake up to that smile every single morning until one day, she didn’t.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something,” Peridot mumbles quietly.
“Ask away,” Lapis replies.
The green gem balls her hands into fists and bites on her bottom lip. “Where did you go?” she wonders, out-loud. “When you left us, back then,” she goes on to say.
For a moment, Lapis is silent.
Peridot finds herself asking is she’s doing this out of guilt - if she felt any remorse what-so-ever for just leaving her like that.
“Oh,” Lapis slowly releases. “Nowhere, really,” she shrugs, finally meeting the green gem’s cold, hard gaze.
“C’mon,” Peridot jerks. “Don’t lie to me, Lapis,” she says, sounding angry.
The blue gem chooses that moment to look away from her again. “I went to places where the sun barely ever sets. I went to see the ocean, and icebergs, volcanoes, quick-sand, snowy mountains. I went to see clouds that cry all day and all night,” Lapis recites - remembering it all too clearly.
And to think she actually used to hate Earth.
“We have rain back here too, you know,” Peridot grits, with a bitter tone.
Lapis sighs again, resting her chin in her hands. “You’re upset with me,” she points out.
“Of course I am,” Peridot agrees. “Y-You didn’t even say goodbye,” her voice shakes with something, something she can’t quite put her finger on. Maybe it’s because of the fact that Peridot would burn the world down for Lapis Lazuli, she would bring on wars and tear apart souls.
“Peridot,” Lapis whispers, snapping her away form her thoughts. “I-I’m sorry, I should’ve been more considerate of your feelings,” she admits, looking sad again.
And, as upset as Peridot is with her, she always did hate it when Lapis would frown. “All I ask is a little warning next time,” she tells her. “I was stuck taking care of pumpkin all by myself, it’s a lot of work you know?”
To her surprise, Lapis laughs.
Peridot hadn’t heard that sound in a long time either.
“Don’t worry Peri,” she smirks, ruffling the other gem’s hair. “I promise you that there won’t be a next time,” she confirms, resting her finger’s over Peridot’s.
“You sure about that?” she says, blushing.
Lapis gazes back at those two lonely stars in the sky - one blue, and the other one, green.
“Absolutely,” she quips, grinning.
―
(And a few years later - she’s still kept her word.
Lapis is standing at the edge of everything, her surroundings lit up by the galaxies around her - and Peridot is sitting there, right by her side.
“Are you ready to see the world, Peri?” she sings, turning her head over her shoulder and offering her hand out.
“Yes Lapis,” Peridot doesn’t even hesitate to slip her fingers into her palm. ”I’m always ready,” and without thought, she follows her, to the ends of the Earth).

as blue as the sea and the sky
pairing: platonic amedot (amethyst & peridot), lapidot (lapis x peridot)
genre: angst, light fluff | non au
word count: 724
summary: peridot misses lapis, but amethyst is there and she is the ultimate wingman.
ruby and sapphire are having a wedding.
peridot does not know exactly what that means, but she does know that steven is planning it and it is also something close to a party.
amethyst and pearl are busy setting up the chairs, amethyst throwing them wherever she may while pearl hovers after her, worrying and fretting before she fixes the chairs herself to keep them in an orderly fashion.
peridot can feel for pearl on this at least, but she has long since grown accustomed to amethyst's behavior. the purple gem does what she wants when she wants to and is as stubborn as no other gem peridot has ever met, but she is also kind, caring, and understanding. pearl always complains that amethyst is much too immature for anyone to take her seriously, but when it comes down to feelings and emotions - to the important stuff - amethyst always makes sure to tread carefully.
she is impulsive, obnoxious, and distant at first glance, but amethyst was there for peridot when lapis left. she and steven showed her that her world did not have to begin and end with lapis. she did not need to depend on someone else for her happiness.
but watching ruby and sapphire be so happy and so in love, it cuts deep for her.
peridot misses lapis.
this is a fact as any other.
the sea is blue, the sky is blue, and peridot feels just as blue as them most days. however, she keeps on going, living every day the best way she can and never letting this stop her.
steven is done walking ruby and sapphire through the schedule for the wedding and peridot watches as he runs back into his room, probably to look through that scrapbook of his again. peridot does not know why a wedding has to be such a big thing, but she thinks she might be starting to get it. steven only gets emotional over things like this when it has to do with love and although looking at them makes her chest hurt, peridot cannot deny how meant for the other sapphire and ruby are.
pearl is running around the chairs without amethyst now, checking over and over again to make sure that they are in neat and ordered lines. amethyst sidles up beside her, arms bent behind her head.
"what's up, dot?" amethyst chuckles, one brow raised lazily in question. "something the matter?"
peridot is not afraid of what amethyst would say, because she already knows and it is a fact. simple and true. "i miss lapis."
amethyst's grin does falter for a moment, briefly puckering into a pout before she smiles again. "what would you say to her right now if you could?"
"i don't know," peridot says, but she knows it is a lie as soon as she has finished speaking. she has been rehearsing speech after speech and the one she ultimately stuck to is written down on a piece of paper she always keeps on her person.
"pretend i'm her then! you can practice what you want to say on me so that when lapis comes back, you'll be ready."
when not if lapis returns, amethyst said. peridot could very well cry because her friend understands. amethyst gets how much hurt she is harboring and would never use it against her, would only do all she could to reassure her.
peridot pulls the paper with her speech on it out and starts to read, excited to finally say some of the things that have been on her mind recently. she finds herself falling before she can finish the first sentence and pearl screeches because the chairs fell with her in a tumble of off-white plastic. amethyst laughs, but peridot is not upset.
she is sad. she misses lapis, but amethyst is laughing at her and even peridot can admit that falling back onto a row of chairs is pretty hilarious. peridot does not even remember why she was so sad when she is with her friends who care about her, when she is with amethyst who is unafraid to laugh at her for making a spectacle of herself.
peridot is happy when amethyst laughs at her - when she laughs with her and makes peridot forget just for a while.
this is why amethyst is a good friend.
a/n: pls remember that my requests are open!

Feeling Blue
Pluto looked lonely – the last planetoid in Earth’s solar system. Earth, where Peridot was, where Lapis longed to be.
She set the barn down on the planetoid, and let her wings dissipate. She folded around herslef and sat of the grass, feeling small and powerless.
What was she doing? She’d panicked again. She couldn’t keep letting her panic get the better of her. This was the second time she’d nearly made it out of the solar system when all she wanted was to be on Earth. With her barn, her pumpkin, and...
She wiped a tear away from her eye. Of all the water Lapis dealt with, tears were her least favorite. Peridot had gone on about the human phenomenon of crying once, and how it was so fascinating because it was a result that humans had in all sorts of instances. Humans could even cry when they were happy.
Heh. Happy tears. Now there was an idea. Lapis couldn’t ever imagine being happy again. Not at the rate she was going...
But she was doing this to herself! She’d had the perfect home, the perfect life, the perfect...family. And she’d thrown it all away – and for what? The possibility of survival without it? She’d taken the house, but she’d left behind everything that had filled it and made it worth taking in the first place. She needed to go back. All of these feelings inside of her – the fear, the hurt, the self-deprecating depression – she had to find a way to keep them from getting the better of her.
She couldn’t stop feeling them – she knew that now – but she had to find a way to keep them from destroying what she cared about over and over and over again.
She sighed and rose to her feet, dusting Pluto’s dust from her dress. Maybe instead of being afraid of the Diamonds, she should be more afraid of herself. At least if she went home fought, there was a chance she might get to live in peace. If she didn’t go, though... She’d never get her happy ending.
That settled it. It was time to go home. For good.
She raised her hands and summoned the water back around the barn. Then she took off, headed once again for Earth. She waved goodbye to the lonely little planetoid, wishing it well on it’s way – and hoping she would never have cause to see it again from anywhere but the skies of Earth.

16: “ I never meant to hurt you. ” Lapis to Peridot
16.“I never meant to hurt you.”
If anything, that only seems to make Peridot angrier, bunching her tiny hands into fists. Tears had gathered in the corners of her eyes, beading up against her visor. “That doesn’t mean the hurt didn’t happen!”
“I never said-”
“No, but you thought it!” she snapped. “I’ve done all I can, Lapis. I’ve given you everything I had! We all did! We wanted you to be happy, and safe, and nothing any of us do will ever do that for you!”
Lapis flinches at her voice. She’s used to Peridot yelling and ranting- she was quite adept at both- but her tone had never cracked like that before. “Peridot, I’m sorry. I really am. I know that’s not enough, but… it’s all I have.”
All the fight seemed to leave her at that. Peridot sniffed rebelliously and glared at the floor, half-turning away from her. “You’re not the only one, you know,” she said finally. “I mean, I was never put into a mirror, but… let’s just say I’m not fond of destabilizers. And it’s scary, and it hurts, and every Gem handles that sort of thing differently. But that doesn’t mean consequences don’t exist. It’s time you realized that.”

WIP: I was hoping to do a ton of writing for this Lapidot anniversary week, but I'm still not feeling super creative. Lazy photoshops I can do though! Hopefully I'll repost this later with a second image and maybe a drabble with it but I wanted to get it out now it's done. This is Peridot post-bodyswap, discovering that Lapis's body can shapeshift, which means she can switch to a much more familiar form:) But with wings!

Got tagged by @calamity-unlocked for the procrastinating writer ask, and might as well! Always fun to get away from the pains of editing, RIP to Falling Down Dry’s eighth chapter.
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
26.
2) What’s your total AO3 word count?
220,000.
3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
A lot. Just...a lot before I got into Ao3 so let’s keep it at that. But mainly I wrote for SU, Amphibia, and FMA.
4) What are your top five fics by kudos?
-Death of the Ego
I would say this happened because I wrote this at the right place at the right time. People had been theorizing that Steven would get corrupted ever since the trailer to SUF, and I originally made this as a one-shot...until people encouraged me to start exploring it.
Wouldn’t say it was my best work, but every time I wrote something it meant I improved slowly, and I would always appreciate that no matter the weather.
-Doesn’t Have to be Solo
Oh man, I loved this one! Just a series of connected events with Steven going on his road trip, and learning more about himself and who he was along the way. It also was the fic where I needed a lot of beta readers as time went on, so it made me learn a lot about grammar, prose, and overall the internal rules I developed while writing in general.
-Beyond the Music Box
This was the surprising one! This fic was originally a place where I could archive all the drabbles I written on Tumblr, and y’all really wanted it due to how chaotic my tag format is for this stuff.
It’s surprising for me because I didn’t expect a lot of love when it came to my casual writings since they take I don’t know an hour or so in creating, so thank you everyone who encouraged me to do this.
Just ignore the fact I’ve been lazy at updating the drabbles, shhhh.
-Building One Up
Marcanne, my beloved. Me and my friend kept talking about how Anne was a buff dork and this was at a time where no one really focused on that except mainly on Sasha when it came to strength (for obvious reasons).
I found this slander (I’m joking, by the way) and decided that I needed to write my feelings out on the topic.
And y’all agreed with me so dthdfthtfhtfht.
This also was the first time I had to hone in on a new form of characterization entirely, being that I infused the character’s thoughts and feelings into the way the prose flowed out itself. For Marcy, I went on a pretty analytical front with this piece, and it helped me get into the groove for people like Anne and Sasha and many others over the course of writing.
-Late Night Talks
I didn’t expect this one to blow up at all. I wrote this at one a.m. and y’all just grabbed this fic and ran, I am still confused.
5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I respond to comments all the time because comments just give a lot of serotonin, you know? Someone took their time out of their day to remark on things I did in the work itself, and it’s just very validating to see. It also creates this environment that says, “Yes, I see you, and you can interact with me anytime you want.” so it’s all about that friendliness unless you’re rude to me back.
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Pizza for One. Had an angst kick when SUF occurred so I milked it whenever my motivation got the best of me.
7) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
I don’t write crossovers unless you mean a crossover of characters to a new environment and set of rules. I would gladly write characters into the FMA world, oh my Lord!
But I guess the craziest stuff I’d written would just be comedy sketches? Best example would be Joe and Bessie having kids and Marcy having a conniption over it, so take that what you will.
8) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I don’t believe so? I did get one person on my old SU fic asking me to continue while giving me unsolicited advice but they apologized not soon after.
9) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I do write smut. I write it privately but I adore characterization and intimacy, and so I try to make rather domestic pieces that connect to the characters themselves. If it has a certain kink, I make sure to research it so I could understand why the character finds the act rather arousing, and I just want to pay respects to the act itself.
Even with our current day and age, there’s still a lot of conservative anti-sex rhetoric going around, and I always try to view the act of physical intimacy in the same lens as one who adores love in all its different facets and forms.
10) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope.
11) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope to that either!
12) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Sadly, no. I do art trades with people and those are lovely to do since we get to brainstorm and make art together, but I’ve never co-written work with someone. If anyone wants to do that, then sure, just hit me up.
13) What’s your all time favourite ship?
It changes every season, every morning tide, every peace loving hour on the Planet Earth.
It’s Marcanne, right now.
When it comes to ships I always go with the Friends-to-Lovers dynamic, but a lot of the ships I have come from seeing the amount of intrigue in how that type of ship would play out. That could be with Kannao and the amount of commentary over Japanese gender biases, or Royai with their very complicated but extensive adoration and loyalty to one another.
For Marcanne, it’s all about that playful banter that could definitely bubble out of the surface if you just (bangs table) allow them to communicate and be transparent fully. (cries)
14) What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Sadly, that Anne fic with her confiding in Hop Pop after they get settled in her house. After what happened with the sneak peek, I realized that this fic would need a lot of build-up to be satisfying and I didn’t have the strength to do a 10k build-up to Anne crying.
Maybe I’ll finish it, we’ll see.
15) What are your writing strengths?
Writing strengths would be concise prose and characterization. I am a worry wart, I worry over the importance of each paragraph and how it all forms and transitions together, it’s just a part of how I work a great deal of the time. And man, characterization is the big one for me, if I don’t understand how the people work and could theoretically function in the story itself, I feel absolutely lost.
Which is also the reason why I’m struggling right now with FDD Chapter Eight, because Marcy’s reaction to Yunan keeps eluding my grasp!
16) What are your writing weaknesses?
I overthink a lot. Concise prose is great but I force myself to get all fancy and massive with details since I’ve got to unless I want a specific part to be so quick and unmeaningful, and this leads to pacing issues or just not enough intended time for people to breathe in the fic itself.
17) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I need to get a beta to make sure I don’t sound like an asshole, haha. I do love other languages, they are beautiful and can add a lot towards an audience who does know the language itself, but it depends on the work I’m doing.
18) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
That would be uhhhhh, my memory is lacking but Minecraft. The whole videogame had a wish fulfillment atmosphere to it, and since I got rather obsessed by how anything could happen in the engine itself I went with it.
19) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
When it comes to me, my own perception of my art changes day to day. Back when I first posted the Lapidot fic I thought it was the best thing I’ve ever done even though now, with the knowledge I have from workshops and betas, that the style I drafted had a lot of grammar and prose mistakes that I wouldn’t make in the future. It is pretty subjective, but for now I think the best fic I could look at right now would be amestrian catcher (set something ablaze).
Thank you Calamity once again for this! And I’ll be tagging @resplendent-chungus, @aanau, and @golddragon387!

Peridot likes to be called “Peri”, she decides.
She tells Lapis not to call her this when they’re around the other gems. Lapis snorts— the way she always doneswhen she giggles—and says that this makes very little sense (“Wasn’t Amethyst was the one who gave you that nickname in the first place?” she says, giving Peridot a playful nudge).
But she sees Peridot quiver a little, trying to form words—green, stubby fingers tangling themselves together—and Lapis feigns an eyeroll, places a hand on Peridot’s shoulder. “You don’t have to tell me,” she mutters under her breath. The gesture is kind, clear. She knows what it feels like, the need to want to curl into oneself, to conceal and to hide. To want to wait until she’s ready.
So she lets her.

The depth of childrens shows - A look at Steven Universe
Steven Universe, for those of you who don’t know, is a cartoon.
TLDR; its worth checking out. If the early episodes aren’t your cup of coffee, give it a little while. When I first started watching it, I struggled a little bit to get through the earlier episodes. However, now that i’m truly addicted to the show i’ve come to appreciate the earlier episodes more.
Why?
I’m an addict for character growth. Taking into consideration the youth of the show, things like odd blips and weird animation bits can be forgiven. As can hesitation and a bit of off feeling voice acting. What I appreciate about Steven Universe is the character growth. The early episodes, Steven is easy to please. His life is safe (for the most part) and relatively simple. He wants to be an active member of the Crystal Gems, but until his Gem activates in episode one he doesn’t show signs of much aside from living his life based on his whims.
Throughout the seasons, Steven and all of the other characters learn. They adjust. They make mistakes and they grow more and more as independent Gempeople.
As the series slowly reveals the events of the Gems lives and the Gem War, the characters progress through new challenges they form more independence. They learn that not everything they knew was accurate, especially when it came to do with Rose Quartz.
More thought drabbles with happen, i’m sure.

Valentine Gift
Day 3: Valentines Day
@lapidot-week
AO3: http://archiveofourown.org/works/9715181
summary: Peridot offers to give her roommate a small gift
The green gem was scrolling through her tablet, looking up at all the recent things people have said on the internet. As her finger swipes repeatedly on her screen, she comes across a barrage of posts containing hearts, love literatures, and poorly made valentines cards with comic sans fonts. It goes on for a while, and becomes fairly curious afterwards.
“Steven…” Peridot taps on his shoulder.
“Yeah?” he responds.
“I’m getting a lot of these memos of people saying “Happy Valentine’s day”, and I’m having some trouble understanding what it means”.
“Oh, Valentine’s is a holiday Peridot.” He answers.
Peri becomes curious. She commences tapping on her screen, typing and looking up on what Steven said. “Hmm…Ah yes, I see now.” she says.
“Apparently Valentine’s Day is an Earth tradition where people show affection to one another, as well as showcasing their depression due to their so called loneliness.” Her information was gathered.
“There’s a lot more to that than just that.” Steven mentions. “During Valentine’s Day, you show how much you love a person by giving them gifts and serenading them, and pretty much almost anything!”
The green gem becomes intrigued. “Fascinating…”
Steven picks up a rose on the coffee table. “I’m gonna give this flower to Connie as a valentine’s gift when she comes over” he says. “I still have to work on the card but I can do that later.”
Peridot glances at the presents Steven plans on endowing to Connie. She notices how the gifts were in a crimson tint, the color red, doubtless to represent a glow romance. Principally, people can just bequest red presents to a person who they are attached to and say that they love them? It was too simple, but also very nifty.
Steven takes a spare floweret on the coffee table and gives it to Peridot. “You should give a rose to Lapis.” He suggests. “Maybe even a card, too. She’ll like it!”
“To Lapis?” Peridot asks looking at the rose. Quickly, she gasps heavily at the feeling of giving something frankly romantic to her roommate. Her eyes widen, pupils become star-shaped, and grins eagerly. “You’re right, I should!” she exclaims. “It’s a shame that the roses can’t be blue. But even though, it’ll still work!’
“Okay, I’ll go get some heart-shaped paper for you to write on.” Steven goes upstairs. The small Peridot chuckles tensely and excited.
A few minutes far ahead, Peridot warps back to the countryside with her rose and letter encased on her hand. She rushes, but also quietly gaits to the barn, wanting to surprise Lapis. She notices the ocean gem sedentary on the pickup truck, probably watching Camp Pining Hearts without her. As she tries walk inside, their Pumpkin notices her, but she gives a signal not to bark at her.
She sneaks soundlessly inwards the barn and puts on her bowtie, adjusting it so it wouldn’t fall or misshape. She takes a look at the dowries which were seamless and small. But it didn’t matter how big it was. She paces outside the barn and looks up on the truck balcony. “Lapiiis!” she calls.
The ocean gem hears the squeak of Peridot and sees her standing below with her. Her bowtie on made her curious, and before long flies down heading for Peri with her water wings, pleased to see her back again.
“You’re home early.” Lapis says.
“I know, but it’s for a good reason.” Peridot speaks.
She presented the rose in front of the blue gem with a contented beam. “Here, this is for you!” she says. The blue gem picks the blossom from her small hand, reading a tag attached to it written “To: Laz” with a heart next to it.
Lapis grins rather charmed. “Thanks, Peri” she says. “It looks lovely”
Peridot becomes farther ecstatic. “Wait, there’s more…” she says handing out her valentine card soon after.
She opens the core shape postcard and reads more writing. Peridot was roused by the comic sans valentine cards she discovered, thus she decided to make her own for Lapis. The epistle was written in her scrawled gem writing, but she was able to perceive.
“We made a lot of morps, but you’re the best one yet” she transcripts.
Lapis snorts and chuckles amused. “Okay, that was pretty good” she admits.
The green gem was overjoyed that she found her mementos amiable. The responses of the blue gem were very dissimilar from the last time she gave her a card, as she was rejected afterwards. But this time, Lapis was happy with what Peridot had to offer.
“So uh…Lapis, did you like my presents?” Peridot asked beaming. The blue gem rubs her chin and glares at her.
“Hmm…I don’t know.” She says smirking. “I think you’re forgetting something”. The green gem quickly gets worried and visibly changes her expression to being anxious. “Um, I am?” she gulps.
“Hold on a second.” Lapis commands. She flies inside the barn and takes the gift ribbon Peri once wore on her hair after visiting Steven. She later stands in front of the green gem and places the decoration on her triangle-shaped mane, making her equally confused and flushed. But it does not end there.
Lapis grasps the small gems face with her blue palms, forging her tension to enhance. The ocean gem stares at her widened eyes avidly, moving in closer to her lips. She caresses Peridot right away, causing them to both blush just as bright. Lapis giggles once more as Peri’s eyes from into stars yet again.
“You forgot to present yourself.” Lapis says. “You already ARE a present to me…”
The green gem grows overjoyed with those words.

i wanna sleep next to you
a/n: au future fic/au after “change your mind” or Peridot dreams in purple, Amethyst dreams in green (Amedot, mentions of Lapidot and Pearlmethyst) - also a sister fic with my Lapidot fic titled ‘kiss me under the stars’
―
(Back in Homeworld, Peridot didn’t really know what sleep was. But, what she did know was this - whenever she closed her eyes, rays of mauve clouds would appear in her dreams.
Violet striped stars would float around, in her mind’s eye - the color of Amethysts, she thought. And, at the time, she hadn’t realized just what kind of plans fate had in store for her.
She’d sink into that purple darkness before it was time to get back to her duties again.
Her work was never done).
―
(Amethyst doesn’t remember much from her short time in the Kindergarten.
Her knowledge was limited back then. Although, she oddly always recognized the shades of emerald. It was as if her entire world had been black and white before this exact moment.
Before the Crystal Gems, Amethyst’s life was like an old movie. Scratchy and worn out, until the moment Rose showed her the beauty of the Earth.
All the pretty flowers, all the tall trees, all the greenery of the leaves - green like the first color she’d ever seen.
And, ever since then, Amethyst’s world has been filled with wonder and excitement).
―
Peridot is a mix of emotions while living with the Crystal Gems.
After everything that’s happened, she knows that this is the only place she can stay, for now. And with the barn destroyed, she didn’t really have anywhere else to go.
But, it was so loud here.
With Garnet and Pearl singing karaoke with Steven in one room, the Off-Colors chatting away in the kitchen, the newly healed Corrupted Gems making a mess in the living room, and Lapis’ snoring right next to her―
Actually, that was a noise Peridot had gotten quite used to, by now.
“You hate it here, don’t you Peri?” She suddenly hears someone chime in next to her. Peridot turns her head to spy Amethyst hanging over the railing holding the bath tub’s curtain up.
She sighs, leaning against the toilet. “Whatever gave you that idea?” Peridot murmurs softly.
Amethyst finds herself smiling at the other gem. She truly missed having her around. “I know it’s not as nice and quiet as your old barn,” she says. “But hey, the bath tub was your first bed, you know? I mean it’s not the most comfortable place but―”
“I don’t need to sleep Amethyst,” Peridot suddenly spits, cutting her off.
She looks down at Lapis again, who is napping away. She’s knows by now that the blue gem is quite deep in her slumber and, although she didn’t really need to sleep, it was something Lapis truly enjoyed.
Absentmindedly, Peridot ruffles her fingers through the other gem’s hair.
“That’s not the problem,” she mumbles.
Amethyst’s observes how soft she is with Lapis. How vulnerable. It makes her realize where the true issue is.
“You’re still mad at Lapis,” she realizes. “For leaving you,” she specifies.
Peridot’s eyes widen at her friend’s statement.
“Yeah,” she finally releases, sounding anxious. “I am,” she goes on to say.
Amethyst rolls her eyes at this exaggerated situation. Things couldn’t possible be so bad. It’s not as if Lapis was as difficult or specific as Pearl was. She wonders why Peridot was having such a hard time with this. “You could just talk to her about it,” she points out.
The green gem looks uncomfortable with the thought. She thinks of all the moments Lapis had been distant prior to leaving - of all the nights she left Peridot alone, crying, sad and lonely.
“It’s not that easy,” she says instead, with a bitter tone.
Amethyst recognizes the look in the other gem’s eyes right away - pettiness. Somewhere, underneath the compassion, lies the soul of the old Peridot that had attempted to destroy her.
“Well,” the purple gem sighs, placing a hand on Peridot’s shoulder. “It’s not that hard either,” she tells her.
For the first time, Peridot doesn’t believe her.
―
(Peridot notices Amethyst around her a lot more, since then.
Whether she is out taking Pumpkin for a walk, or having a snack with Steven. Whether she’s just researching tools with Pearl, or surfing the web while lying on the beach - Amethyst is there, keeping an eye on her.
Overtime, Peridot’s gotten used to the other gem’s company, and she’s not exactly sure she wants her shoo her away, just yet).
―
One night, Peridot ends up in Amethyst’s room, watching old reruns of Camp Pining Hearts.
The purple gem is so tired that she can barely keep her eyes open. She’s lying on her stomach with a pillow between her arms. The green gem sits next to her, unable to look away from the screen.
“I can’t believe you still watch this show,” Amethyst says, while rolling her eyes.
Peridot doesn’t offer her a reaction. “You don’t have to stick around,” she tells her, motionlessly.
It takes her too long to realize that she’s completely oblivious. Peridot doesn’t take hints well - she’s utterly clueless when it comes to this human stuff called ‘emotions’. So instead, Amethyst nudges her hand.
“I like spending time with you, Peri,” she admits, as her touch makes the other gem blush.
“I noticed,” is all Perdiot is able to blurt out, in the midst of her anxiety.
She really hated Earth for these reasons exactly. It had given her so many feelings - feelings she just could not explain. She didn’t know how to name them, or pursue them in any way.
How does one make these things go away? She thought.
“Amethyst, you’re easy to talk to.”
The purple gem looked at her skeptically. “Thanks,” she says, as she hadn’t expected that random compliment coming from Peridot. “I guess that’s different than what you’re used to with Lapis, isn’t it?” she figures out.
And it makes Peridot realize that Amethyst is a lot smarter than she leads on. Actually, she’s a lot smarter than most people.
Because she’s perceptive.
“Lapis is,” Peridot pauses, as her voice shakes. After all, her blue gem companion is so many things and more. How could she just summarize her into a simple word? Lapis was brilliant, brave, strong and―
“Sensitive,” Peridot finally settles on that word instead. “I am still learning what is appropriate to say and what is not, around her,” she confesses, with a broken look in her eyes.
The other gem decides that she hates it when Peridot is sad.
“You’re such a softy, Peri,” Amethyst smiles, lightly punching her friend in the shoulder.
She chuckles, rubbing the spot Amethyst had just touched. Unexpectedly, the remnants of her mark makes her skin crawl.
“So are you,” Perdiot tells her.
Amethyst knows she’s not human either but, if she were, this could be the moment where her heart would beat faster. Because Peridot’s smile is enought o light up her entire world - and then some. “Me?” she says, laughing. “Ha, yeah right,” Amethyst rolls her eyes.
(They focus their attention back on the screen as Paulette and Percy share a kiss).
―
(Later that night, Amethyst notices that Perdiot has moved her stuff from the bathroom to her bedroom.
“I kinda miss having a barn mate,” she offers, as an explanation. “Is this okay?” the fact that she’s actually asking is a surprise.
Normally, Perdiot can be a bit controlling - in a odd way, Amethyst did think she was a tad similar to Pearl. Maybe that’s why they budded heads so often.
“Yeah sure, Peri,” she softly replies, patting a spot beside her on her bed. “It’s room mates though, around here,” she sings, grinning with all her teeth.
Peridot climbs into bed next to her as Amethyst pulls the covers over their heads.
“Right,” she nods, “Room mates,” Peridot repeats, closing her eyes.
(She starts dreaming in purple, all over again).

For the drabble prompt, Lapidot 64
64. “Are you ticklish?”
Peridot’s eyes got big and shiny at that. She slowly edged herself back on the bed. “You have no proof of anything.”
“That’s not an answer,” Lapis replied, propping herself on her elbows. A devious smile crept up the side of her face. “But it also kinda is, too.”
She did what she felt was the right thing and hissed.
“Alright, that’s it. You’re in for a ticklefest.”
