Lantern oaths. What’s your favorite?
I added the different version of the red lantern one that Razer says. I didn’t add Aya’s cause hers didn’t actually work :(
Sorry I also didn’t add the black or white lantern oath. Maybe I’ll do a separate post for those.
And here’s the English version (or a version so to speak) of the indigo lantern oath.
Tumblr media
I think my favorites are the red and green lantern oaths. :D

✧✦ Lanterns ✦✧
part 2!! It's finally done, it's finally here!!!
Decided to finish off the lanterns!! Going through the motions, really going through it in varying intensity, but this journey is done and with the White Lantern, I've finally reached some peace of mind.
The text this time around is personalized oaths. I had some help from friends to try and get these to be somewhat decent. These are personalized and give a little insight into what each one deals with and is about while still remaining true to what each Lantern color represents.

I just went to an event that had hanging lanterns going for two hours, so now I have thoughts about what this means for Kankagari (hanging lantern watching), the Rengoku family meditative practice that results in yellow and red hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a reminder, this information was revealed in the Taisho Secrets distributed at the first showings of Mugen Ressha in October of 2020. You can read all of them here, but here is just the translation of the Kankagari section:
Why do the men in the Rengoku family have hair like that?
The Rengoku family has long since had a practice called “Kankagari.” For the duration of their pregnancies, every seven days the wives will spend two hours gazing at a large flaming torch. This seems to be what causes the men in the family to have flame colored hair. That being said, it seems that it’s normally bad for a pregnant woman’s health to stare at large flames, so please don’t attempt this.
A few considerations, based on tonight's observation:
First consideration: The source of the fire.
Although the Taisho Secrets do not elaborate on this, many real life fire-related ceremonies use fire from a special source. This could add some depth to a fic that makes use of Kankagari. (As a reminder, the consensus among the Japanese fandom is that Kankagari is a meditative practice that only exists in the world of Kimetsu no Yaiba, so go set your heart ablaze and go wild. But as a side note, clacking sparks on someone's back before they embark on certain undertakings does have real life basis.)
First consideration: Smoke.
If writing Kankagari into a fic, you probably want to consider whether they're sitting outside, sitting inside and watching a hanging lantern outside, or sitting in a somehow very well ventilated room with a fireproof floor. If it's (more likely) outside, you'll want to consider the weather and the direction of the wind.
Third consideration: Fires need tending.
Over the course of two hours, there was a priest fussing about the lantern every five minutes or so. Aside from adding lots and lots of pre-chopped wood and stoking the fire to keep it going, he also was constantly wetting down the fallen, flaming wood to snuff it out. There was a hole dug under each lantern to catch most (but not all) of these often very big chunks, and the priest used a soaking wet broom made of straw and bamboo to put out those fires that fell.
This means that when an expectant Rengoku mother is practicing this meditation, she either:
--does this all herself, or
--someone else accompanies her for the duration of the two hours.
Perhaps centuries of Rengoku mothers had their relatives come help them with this, but as my own spot of input, yeah, I could see Shinjuro having done this for Ruka whenever his work allowed it. I could also see her very strong young son Kyojuro helping on a regular basis.

I’ve always found the modern interpretation of Green Lanterns being space cops a bit weird. Personally I’ve always seen them more as being space paladins rather than police. A noble order of knights given authority and “divine” power to help others and do good for its own sake.
It’s also a better justification for why there are so few Green Lanterns in each sector. As space cops, it makes no sense for one or two Lanterns to police hundreds of star systems. Space paladins on the other hand, who simply travel and offer aid when and where they can, makes a lot more sense. Just saying. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤓💚

i’m always so fascinated by the dual natures of every lantern corps. i know a lot of GL fans rightfully don’t like the entity concept (and i hate parts of it myself for sure), but the exploration of emotions in their most primal states is something i just find so interesting. like despite writers depicting them as good or bad, i like that they’re technically all neutral because there is no moral application to emotions, the main reason it is in the comics is because it’s the most emotionally charged people to ever exist all fighting. like rage and love go so hand in hand, and one can argue that rage is born from love. a love for justice, a love for oneself, a love for people suffering (Atrocitus). you feel anger because it’s a secondhand emotion, it comes from pain of not being seen or understood or being failed or losing what’s dear to you. when their hearts are replaced by their rings which need constant anger to function, and that’s just the epitome of how sometimes anger is ALL you have, the only thing you allow yourself to feel if you want to survive. likewise, hope is so interesting to me. the way that blue lanterns will literally die if they lose hope, like it’s just a double edged sword that beautifully represents what hope actually is in real life. and the indigo tribe is one of the most obvious applications of neutrality given that they indoctrinate “bad people” like a cult and i really love that too. compassion means nothing if it’s forced or fake, it’s not kindness it’s being nice. and lastly the sinestro corps… arguably the only corps that’s shown fully antagonistic given that instilling fear is a self-serving action. and given what we know about bleez’s backstory, they commit a lot of crimes in the name of fear. but fear conversely is a survival tactic, it is the caution that keeps you alive, it’s not a bad thing to feel, and i think jessica’s arc really illustrates that. fear is something to move on from, but like all the others, it has its own merit.

Which rage language are you?
men, raise the drawbridge
Tumblr media
When you're angry, all your defenses go up. The unfortunate person or thing that managed to piss you off is suddenly talking to a wall. On the inside, you're screaming and crying and cussing them out, but somehow you can't express it. you're blank. emotionless. To anyone's knowledge, you could be zoning out of a lecture. Because of this, it's hard to express how you're feeling when the person asks for your thoughts. You've choked your feelings down, and they won't come back up.
open the floodgates
Tumblr media
Your frustration turns into tears quickly. The strength of your fury is so potent that it sets off the waterworks out of pure rage. You hate it, because whoever's pissed you off thinks it's funny, like you're not tough and you can't defend yourself. You can, you just need to get through the haze of emotions first.
step back
Tumblr media
Usually, you're able to bottle up your emotions and ignore the frustrations. But, after weeks of shoving everything down, your body needs a release, and I pity the poor person who managed to piss you off. It's screaming crying, shouting, kicking lockers, whatever you can do to get it out of your system. It's a whole jean grey moment, fire and fury blasting out of you.

Tumblr media
Whoever pisses you off is in for a rant that exposes every single one of their deepest insecurities and issues. Your rage gives you the clarity to hunt for weak spots in a person's mind. Your brain works fast, firing off insults at a rapid-fire pace that terrifies everyone within a ten mile radius. This is usually followed by buckets of guilt.
