I've seen conflicting definitions of the rank of "boy" on a ship, in some places (for example when reading about merchant vessels) anyone regardless of age could be a "boy", in others (something about British Royal Navy) a "boy" was described as a teenager who would automatically become a Seaman after reaching the age of adulthood.
Can you please elucidate this a little, was "boy" of the Navy really something very different from a "boy" in a civilian vessel?
Hi, Sorry to keep you waiting, but all hell broke loose here at my place. Well, in order to break it down exactly, you first have to understand the term boy. Because behind it was a job title and not necessarily the age of the person who was registered as such. If the boys were under 15, then in the Navy they were Boys or rather Volunteers of the Second Class, the Third Class were between 15 and 18 and the First Class were the officer candidates, the later Midshipmen. Depending on their age, they were assigned different tasks and the youngest were usually the powder monkeys and cabin boys, while the older ones had already learned some of the tasks on board and thus helped on deck, etc. And yes, they later became skilled sailors or, if they were really lucky, maybe even an officer. In the navy, this system was about getting the orphans, the children of sailors and the poor, most of these children came from these ranks, as offspring for the navy and thus to have enough men later. Incidentally, they hid some teenage women in these positions, as they were usually quite petite and small and could therefore pass for boys, which often gave them a sense of security.
The Merchants didn't have a manning problem, rather the Navy scavenging men from them and so many signed on with them. This was only expensive because these vessels were mostly privately owned and paid much better than the Navy and thus very much sought after by the skilled Sailors and Officers of the Navy - especially when the latter were stuck on land because of half pay. The youngsters naturally tried their luck here and so the age could also increase because the merchant was not always inclined to pay the youngsters later than able seamen, which is why many were often stuck in this position and could not get on. If they then transferred to the Navy, it was quite possible that they would be classified as Landmen, as it was not known how skilled they actually were, but most of them were quite good, which enabled them to get out more quickly.
However, there were also much older men and also women who were registered as Ship Boys, because either they were too old (it often happened that actually retired sailors had no money to live on land and so they tried it again at sea) or, in the eyes of the first Lieutenant, too weak to do the heavier tasks, which is why they then served as servants under this title and could thus at least earn some money. Because of this, the ship's boy is seen as a job, and as you can see, it's not always about age.
Well it is a bit long but i hope it will help you. Have a nice evening.

Sell Mineral Rights
Maximizing Your Wealth: A Comprehensive Guide to Selling Mineral Rights
In today's dynamic economic landscape, individuals and entities alike are constantly seeking avenues to maximize their wealth and secure financial stability. One often overlooked yet valuable asset that many landowners possess is mineral rights. These rights grant the owner the privilege to extract and profit from minerals found beneath the surface of their land. However, navigating the process of selling mineral rights can be complex and daunting. This comprehensive guide aims to demystify the process, providing insights and strategies to help landowners make informed decisions and maximize the value of their mineral rights.
Understanding Your Mineral Rights:
Before delving into the intricacies of selling mineral rights, it's essential to have a clear understanding of what these rights entail. Mineral rights grant the holder the authority to explore, extract, and profit from subsurface minerals such as oil, gas, coal, and precious metals. These rights are often separate from surface ownership, meaning that a landowner may not necessarily own the mineral rights to their property.
Assessing the Value:
The first step in the process of selling mineral rights is to assess their value accurately. Several factors influence the value of mineral rights, including the type and quantity of minerals present, market conditions, geographical location, and the presence of existing infrastructure such as wells or pipelines. Conducting thorough research and seeking professional guidance from geologists, landmen, or mineral rights brokers can help landowners determine the fair market value of their mineral rights.
Exploring Options:
Once the value of the mineral rights has been established, landowners have several options for monetizing their assets. One common approach is to lease the rights to energy companies in exchange for royalty payments or upfront bonuses. However, leasing can tie up the rights for an extended period, limiting future opportunities for the landowner. Alternatively, landowners may choose to sell their mineral rights outright, providing them with a lump-sum payment upfront.
Navigating the Negotiation Process:
Negotiating the sale of mineral rights requires careful consideration and strategic planning. Landowners should seek to maximize their bargaining power by leveraging factors such as market demand, the quality of the resource, and competing offers from potential buyers. Additionally, it's crucial to review the terms of the sale agreement carefully, paying close attention to clauses related to royalty rates, surface access, and environmental protections.
Tax Implications:
Before finalizing the sale of mineral rights, it's essential to consider the tax implications of the transaction. Depending on the jurisdiction and the specific circumstances of the sale, landowners may be subject to capital gains taxes or other levies. Consulting with a tax advisor or financial planner can help landowners understand their tax obligations and explore strategies to minimize their tax liability.
Selling mineral rights can be a lucrative opportunity for landowners to unlock the value of their assets and secure financial stability for the future. By understanding the intricacies of the process and seeking professional guidance when necessary, landowners can maximize the value of their mineral rights and make informed decisions that align with their long-term goals. Whether leasing the rights for ongoing royalty payments or selling them outright for a lump-sum payment, landowners have various options to monetize their mineral rights effectively. With careful planning and strategic negotiation, landowners can navigate the complexities of selling mineral rights and embark on a path towards greater financial prosperity.

How to Sell Mineral Rights
Maximizing Returns: A Comprehensive Guide on How to Sell Mineral Rights
Mineral rights can be valuable assets, providing a steady stream of income for landowners. Whether you own land rich in oil, gas, coal, or other valuable minerals, understanding how to sell these rights can be a complex process. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the intricacies of selling mineral rights, from understanding their value to navigating the negotiation process. By the end of this article, you will be equipped with the knowledge needed to maximize returns on your mineral assets.
Understanding the Value of Mineral Rights
Before diving into the process of selling mineral rights, it's crucial to understand their value. The value of mineral rights is determined by various factors, including the type and quantity of minerals present, market demand, location, and legal considerations. Conducting thorough research or consulting with professionals such as geologists or landmen can help assess the potential value of your mineral assets accurately.
Assessing Market Conditions
Market conditions play a significant role in determining the value of mineral rights. Factors such as fluctuations in commodity prices, technological advancements in extraction methods, and regulatory changes can all impact the market for mineral rights. It's essential to stay informed about these factors and how they may influence the value of your assets before entering into negotiations.
Preparing Your Mineral Rights for Sale
Before putting your mineral rights on the market, there are several steps you can take to maximize their value. This includes ensuring that your title is clear and free of any encumbrances, obtaining any necessary permits or leases, and conducting a thorough evaluation of your mineral assets. Additionally, investing in professional appraisals or evaluations can provide potential buyers with confidence in the value of your mineral rights.
Exploring Sales Options
When it comes to selling mineral rights, landowners have several options to consider. These include outright sales, lease agreements, royalty interests, and joint ventures. Each option has its advantages and disadvantages, depending on your financial goals, risk tolerance, and long-term objectives. It's essential to weigh these factors carefully and explore all available options before making a decision.
Negotiating with Potential Buyers
Negotiating the sale of mineral rights can be a complex and nuanced process. It's essential to enter into negotiations with a clear understanding of your objectives and boundaries. This includes determining your desired price, royalty rates, lease terms, and any other conditions that may be important to you. Additionally, working with experienced negotiators or legal professionals can help ensure that your interests are adequately represented during the negotiation process.
Finalizing the Sale
Once negotiations are complete, and an agreement has been reached, the final step is to finalize the sale of your mineral rights. This typically involves drafting and executing legal documents, transferring ownership of the rights, and receiving payment from the buyer. It's essential to review these documents carefully and seek legal advice if necessary to ensure that the terms of the sale are fair and enforceable. Selling mineral rights can be a lucrative opportunity for landowners looking to monetize their assets. By understanding the value of your mineral rights, assessing market conditions, preparing your assets for sale, exploring sales options, negotiating effectively, and finalizing the sale, you can maximize returns on your mineral assets. Whether you're a seasoned landowner or new to the world of mineral rights, following these steps can help ensure a successful transaction and unlock the full potential of your mineral assets.

Longevity wasps and ants live in different territories, so they rarely encounter each other. If the carcass of a long-lived wasp that died in nature is on the ground, ants may dispose of it. Of course, even in nature, there are cases in which long-lived wasps live with ants. Usually, one or two long-lived wasps and at least one ant at the level of an anthill unit have to stick슈퍼마리오 브라더스 다시보기 2023 영화_무료보기슈퍼마리오 브라더스 다시보기 2023 영화_무료보기 together, but there is a chance of winning. Whether in nature or in a breeding ground, when ants see long-lived wasps, they respond with an attack posture. At best, it resists enough to shake off ants when they cling to them.
As a result of people experimenting with ants vs longevity wasps in an artificial breeding farm, it is said that the ants can attack and deal with it only when the wasps are almost exhausted. Maybe because the outer skin of the long-liv슈퍼마리오 브라더스 다시보기 2023 영화_무료보기ed wasp is hard, the ants did not immediately dispose of the dead wasps. As much as the long-lived wasp is a threat to humans, the long-lived wasp is also very dangerous to humans. Of course, you have to be careful not to get stung, but if it is 1:1 or a small number of long-lived wasps, if a human strikes them with a suitable weapon, they will lie down. The reason why longevity wasps are dangerous is because of their poison, not their physical specifications. In addition, there are many videos on the Internet where long-lived wasps are pain슈퍼마리오 브라더스 다시보기 2023 영화_무료보기fully killed with all kinds of torture (…). However, the venom of wasps is strong, and among them, longevity wasps are all powerful, so you need to be careful.
Above all, since humans know how to use fire, they can most thoroughly and effectively subdue long-lived wasps. Needless to say, if you bring a flamethrower in earnest, even if you bring an improvised flamethrower that combines a torch or lighter with FKilla, the long-lived wasp has no dreams or hopes except for the 36th line. If you brush even lightly wit슈퍼마리오 브라더스 다시보기 2023 영화_무료보기h fire, the thin wings of the insect will be burned and fall to the ground, followed by being stepped on or the torso being burned, resulting in a miserable end. Humans who are determined to remove wasps are often covered in protective clothing, so it is difficult to penetrate them. Above all, other natural enemies are limited to the extent of being able to repopulate the house by killing the individual or destroying the house, but humans dry the seeds unconditionally once they check the house.
Especially powerful enemies include beekeepers, firefighters whose combat power increases even more during the honey harvesting season, and health center owners. Among them, the ones who hate long-lived wasps the most are apiary owners who are determined to destroy the wasp colony and its individuals, and use all available means such as flamethrowers and lawn mo슈퍼마리오 브라더스 다시보기 2023 영화_무료보기wers to destroy them. Longevity wasps are definitely strong insects, but they are insects anyway. They die miserably in front of a fire or engine. As you can see from the video above, when longevity wasps attack, several hives are quickly destroyed, but from the beekeeper's point of view, all the bees, larvae, and pupae that have been raised like sons and daughters all year are torn to death, as well as honey being taken [56] Of course, shed tears When it's hard to deal with everyth슈퍼마리오 브라더스 다시보기 2023 영화_무료보기ing, firefighters who come after receiving a 119 call treat the hive with fire or high-pressure water. This is because once you make up your mind, a specialist in hive removal is called in to wipe out all the beehives, larvae, eggs, and even the house. Professional traders such as landmen treat the hive [58], stir-fry the larvae, and soak the imago in alcohol (longevity wasp liquor + stir-frying longevity wasp larva슈퍼마리오 브라더스 다시보기 2023 영화_무료보기e), and the house sells herbal medicine with a medicinal material called Nobongbang (露蜂房). Through this, the Nobong Ark, known to the public, is sometimes immersed. Among the manufacturing methods of Nobongbangju, there are those in which only the Nobongbang room is used to make alcohol, or both the imago and the Nobongbang room are made.
For this reason, it is better to just call 911, although if you contact the person who makes the bee liquor, they will remove the wasps for free. In the MBC program Real Documentary Noon 'Attack of Wasps', it was said that longevity wasp larvae are rich in nutrients such as protein. The pupae, which have a si슈퍼마리오 브라더스 다시보기 2023 영화_무료보기ngle bee shape, start to produce poison in the body, so you should not eat them, but only eat the larvae in the form of caterpillars. Larvae in the form of larvae can also reproduce. Like snake wine, Nobong Arkju, a liquor dipped in longevity wasps, is fatal enough to cause breathing difficulties and acute shock if drunk incorrectly.
Once soaked, it must be drunk after at least a year,[59] Even so, it is good to drink only half a glass of soju per day diluted in water, and drinking more than that is said to be dangerous to the liver.[60] If you don't know well, it's better not to drink it.
However, there are quite a few people who like longevity wasps for their own sake rather than medicinal use these days. Long-lived wasp lovers who heal while looking at long-lived wasps

“It’s the men who have the power in the transaction. They have it generally anyway, on land. They decide when to mate, and for how long. They also own land, as they own good, and the women get the use of it only by permission....Oh, yes. And this’ll make ye laugh: The one thing they think they need is more men. When a woman’s with child, they hope for more boys, boys and boys and boys...Why should a woman hope for a son? The landmen take their pleasure without regard for anyone aside from themselves. No doubt that’s why yer mother was so glad to have caught a merman.”

AU headcanon 1/2
For @mi6-cafe “Blast from the Past” January
I made these up on the fly based on details sprinkled through the complication of memory
AU Headcanon 1: Alec Trevelyan and largely-canon-compliant Craig!Bond
Officially, they met at SBS, but in reality, they first met as landmen on leave. They barely remember that night. The important bits were that they were tossed out of a strip club for starting a fight with the manager. They’d lost their wallets, their women, and so they’d taken one look at each other and thought, Why not?
The next time they meet, it’s the first day of training at SBS. Bond was a cocky rooster and Trevelyan was a smooth-talking trouble magnet and they got each other punished within a week. After that, it was less of a headache to partner the two together because if they’re not competing, they’re making someone else’s life miserable. And that’s a valuable asset.
They’re young and brash and malleable. They learn to fight as a team, to anticipate each other on the field. The standard hand signals morph into a unique sign language between them.
Their after action reviews are a blessing and a curse. They’re an efficient combination. But also a disaster on four legs, a pencil-pusher’s worst nightmare.
They never really talk about it, but when they’re on leave, they gravitate towards each other. Being an operative is stressful enough without worrying about safety. First, it’s they sleep better in proximity. Then it’s they share everything. They’re the same height; may as well split a casual wardrobe and a flat they’ll rarely use.
They transfer into MI6 together and for the first time, they take solo missions. They adapt by making each other next of kin.
They still don’t talk about it. They still share everything. Trevelyan burns anything except Chinese. Bond isn’t allowed to drive their third car.
They’re promoted to 00-status in late 2003. They get one night to celebrate before Bond is sent to South America. Trevelyan’s first mission is to infiltrate a base in Iraq. He doesn’t come back. M declares him KIA.
Bond keeps going. His transition into 007 is flawless. There isn’t a dip in his success record. But he now leaves flowers on multiple graves. Ones at Skyfall manor. And ones in Austria, where Alec last saw his parents. And less than two years later, he barrels headlong into the Vesper affair. Vesper, mysterious and contrary, the embodiment of everything his life was not. With her, he can imagine being free.
We all know how that ends.
It'll be another eight years before he discovers Trevelyan isn't dead.

Days 25 & 26: Era Swap/Genre Swap
For these prompts, I thought it would be fun for Teo and Ismeni to swap worlds. Some thoughts:
Ismeni comes from a different submarine than Teo, her ancestors cast out for a different reason (maybe racism?). Her ship didn’t mutiny against the military personnel that the landmen put in charge until Ismeni’s generation, when a cruel and ambitious young shipman murdered all the commanders and declared himself captain. Shortly thereafter, he proposed to Ismeni, threatening her family if she refused. After nine years of manipulation and abuse, Ismeni planned a coup, killed her husband, and took command of the ship.
Teo is a warrior from one of the coastal city-states who fled to the ocean when his city was conquered and sacked. He and his crew survive by pirating and attacking Adghoi ships, and he becomes a sort of Odysseus figure, forever wandering and weathering the wrath of the sea. I also really want this universe to have an equivalent to the Sirens and Teo’s all-Deaf crew are completely immune. Maybe that’s how they manage to evade capture.

Ballads for Inktober, Day 2, “Mindless”
Today’s image is the mermaid, whose song bewitches sailors to follow her mindlessly into the sea, and to their deaths.
The Mermaid (Child 289, Roud 124) As we lay musing in our beds,  So well and so warm at ease, I thought upon those lodging-beds Poor seamen have at seas.
Last Easter day, in the morning fair,  We was not far from land, Where we spied a mermaid on the rock, With comb and glass in hand.
The first came up was the mate of our ship, With lead and line in hand, To sound and see how deep we was From any rock or sand.
The next came up the boatswain of our ship, With courage stout and bold: ‘Stand fast, stand fast, my brave lively lads, Stand fast, my brave hearts of gold!’
Our gallant ship is gone to wreck, Which was so lately trimmd; The raging seas has sprung a leak, And the salt water does run in.
Our gold and silver, and all our cloths, And all that ever we had, We forced was to heave them overboard, Thinking our lives to save.
In all, the number that was on board Was five hundred and sixty-four, And all that ever came alive on shore There was but poor ninety-five.
The first bespoke the captain of our ship, And a well-spoke man was he;  ‘I have a wife in fair Plymouth town, And a widow I fear she must be.’
The next bespoke the little cabin-boy, And a well-bespoke boy was he;  ‘I am as sorry for my mother dear As you are for your wives all three.
‘Last night, when the moon shin’d bright, My mother had sons five, But now she may look in the salt seas And find but one alive.’
‘Call a boat, call a boat, you little Plymouth boys, Don’t you hear how the trumpets sound? For the want of our boat our gallant ship is lost And the most of our merry men is drownd.’
Whilst the ranging seas do roar, And the lofty winds do blow, And we poor seamen do lie on the top, Whilst the landmen lies below.

Spinning a yarn
Salts and landmen (landlubber) alike delight in hearing a tall tale told with all the trimmings by someone with a talent for "spinning a yarn." While today "spinning a yarn" refers to any exaggerated story, originally it was exclusively a nautical term understood by sailors only.
Tumblr media
Officers and mates in the 18th and 19th century were stern disciplinarians who believed if sailors were allowed to congregate and tell sea stories, no work would be done. However, there was one job that required congregating on a weekly basis - unraveling the strands of old line.
On this day, the salts could talk to their heart's content and the period came to be known as the time for "spinning yarns." Later anyone telling a tale was said to be "spinning a yarn," a cherished naval tradition.

AU idea (marissonshipping)
Half of Kalos is underwater and half of it is on land. The people on both sides mostly dont know about each other, outside of whispered tales of mermaids, sirens, or landmen and maidens. They're mostly the same.
One day, Mairin falls into the dock, and gets rescued by Alain, a mermaid with shiny blue scales and a charizard friend, and he helps her up to the surface, and charizard helps her home.
So, she obviously tries to talk to him again, because mermaid, and Alain probably is pretty curious, too. So yeah. Mermaid au. Because fuck you.

The Qualities That You Need to Look for When You Are Hiring the Right Gas and Oil Broker
Tumblr media
If you are a gas or oil company, you need to ensure that you work with the best broker. You may be unable to determine the best landmen that will help you in the production of your land assets. The good thing about getting the best broker is that you will be linked with the customers. Most are the brokers out there, and therefore you may have problems in locating the right one. It is advisable that you be considerate and ensure you read more reviews at www.doggettland.com so that you may get to know the qualified broker. The following are some of the things that you need to have in your mind when you are choosing the best gas and oil, broker.
One of the things that you need to look for when you are choosing the best broker to link you with the best landmen to help you in exploiting the land assets is the professional reputation. It is good that you look for the gas and oil broker that have been getting compliments from some customers. With the reputable gas and oil broker, you will know that you will end up with the best services that will meet your interests. You can even consider reading more reviews from other beneficiaries of the gas and oil broker.
The other element that you need to think of when you are choosing the best gas and oil broker is the technical expertise. When you are choosing the best landmen broker, you need to study the number of years that he has been in services. The best gas and oil broker that you need to work with is one that has not less than two years of technical knowledge. When you are working with the old gas and oil broker from https://www.doggettland.com/, you know that you will end up benefiting. Good experience shows that the gas and oil broker have gained much knowledge.
The other aspect that you need to think of when you are choosing the right gas and oil broker is the charges. You need to get the gas and oil broker that will not ask for a huge amount of money. Thank you very much for the tag @charminglyantiquated, I think I can help a bit with the historical part here @purlturtle
Btw popular privateer ships were actually the schooners because they were so fast.
Now it depends on which nation you're looking at, because that's where it gets interesting because of the crew.  Because the British had quite small crews, up to 50 men at the most, whereas the Americans and French had up to 150 men on board. Oh, and you might want to think about whether your privateer is independent, i.e. only under the command of your captain, who is also the ship's owner, or whether a few merchants finance your ship and your captain sails on their behalf, or whether your ship even sails under the orders of your government, which could be interesting if you plan to turn your privateer into a pirate later on, and whether the respective navy will then become the law. Sorry, I'm rambling.
Let's move on to the crew. A Privateer had a similar set-up as a warship, which was due to the fact that the crew was mostly made up of former Navy or Marines. At the top was the captain, followed by one or two lieutenants (if your second in command had no training, he was the first mate - pirates, on the other hand, liked to use the term quartermaster to at least distinguish themselves from the Navy by name). some larger ones also had a master, but it was often the captain who took over this post. Then came the usual suspects, Boatswain, Cook, Gunner, Guard of the Marines (he led the men on boarding and was usually a former Marine himself), a Prize Master and the Powder Monkeys, usually if one could be found, a Surgeon, Carpenter, armorer and a Sailmaker. The Sailors were often very experienced men such as Fishermen, Sailors and Marines (the latter were often used for boarding as they were trained soldiers) Landmen were rare as the Privateers did not had the problem of recruiting. A Privateer promised a lot of quick money and could often bring it, unlike a Navy ship. Which is why many volunteers went to the Privateers instead of the Navy. And so they could choose their men from a pool of volunteers.
The daily routine on board was like that of a warship, there were watches, gun training, weapons training, daily cleaning and so on.
Sorry it got a bit long, but maybe it will help you with your project.
I'm currently writing a story about pirates/privateers ca. 1715 - one ship is a brigantine, relatively small, the other a three-masted frigate that's considerably larger. Could you, based on that, give me an idea what roles/positions (ie bosun, quartermaster etc) you'd expect to see on board, and which would surprise you? If history isn't your thing (no worries), what would you expect on a modern day sail ship?
Thanks in advance, and hope you have a great day!
I’m afraid the historic aspect is a little out of my wheelhouse, but @ltwilliammowett seems pretty knowledgeable about the Age of Sail, and some of my followers might be able to point you in the direction of others who could help answer your questions as well.
I can tell you about modern-day schooners, though! The largest ones I’ve worked on have been the schooner Lynx, a replication privateer from the War of 1812, and the schooner Mary Day, a windjammer from 1962, both about ~125ft with spars included. MD has a captain, first mate, cook, messmate, and ~4 deckhands, and could sleep about two dozen passengers on top of that. Lynx (theoretically; sometimes these responsibilities double up) has a captain, first mate, head deckhand, bosun, cook, and engineer, as well as ~6 deckhands. For this kind of educational/vacation sailing, there’s definitely no quartermaster.
As a last note, in case it’s helpful: schooners were commonly used as pirate ships due to their increased speed and maneuverability when compared to square-rigged ships, which was enormously useful for those navigating around islands, shoals, and uneven coast. New England fishing and coastal trade also made frequent use of them for the same reason!
