I know I talk lots about OCD but often it’s only because it takes such a prominent role in my life for weeks and sometimes even months. Deep in the midst of it, I start losing care for everything and anything that doesn’t revolve around my current obsessions and compulsions. It robs the magic from even the simplest of things. Music particularly has always been an anchor which I’ve always lovingly relied on as I disappear and retreat into the depths of the rich inner world inside my mind. In moments where I spiral all I want and yearn for is comfort. This means I often neglect most of the new music releases during those couple of months in favor of records that have already become a staple in my life. Recently, as the sky has started to clear up, Lanas' newest record has become a bit of a somber summer lullaby. Watching the corn reach maturity as I drive to nowhere or reading Joyce Carol Oates out loud to my friends at some cemetery in Michigan, it whispers and plays sweetly alongside the process of my memory formation. Indiana is most beautiful in the summer. Each year I learn to cherish it even more than before. It’s in the music I go back to time after time, that I find myself reliving the most vibrant and special memories I’ve worked so hard to remain a part of me, forever.
