Views of Lake Superior Provincial Park! The top 3 are of Lake Superior itself, all overlooking Old Woman's Bay where there was an incredible (but oh so difficult) hike that overlooked the bay! The last 3 are views of a smaller lake nearby that Trappers Trail goes around, we went for sunrise and had such a beautiful hike. All photos were taken on a Fujifilm Flash disposable camera.

Finally finished this book today.

It’s heartwarming reading a book when you can visually put yourself in the places the author talked about.

Back in 1980 I worked at Pancake Bay Provincial Park and frequented Agawa Crafts which was right across the highway. It was a bustling place those days !!! Years later, I would drive by Voyageurs Lodge without blinking an eye or stopping to check it out. Then, one summer I booked a stay there and I’ve been hooked since. Every summer I return and stay there, enjoying the fritters, food and the amazing customer service.

This book just highlighted to me why the Canadian North shore of Lake Superior is so special.

📍BATHTUB ISLAND Getting there: 🚙 🏃🏻 Bathtub Island is best accessed by parking at Katherine Cove and following the Coastal Trail south for about a 1/2 kilometre. Parking on the shoulder is discouraged for safety reasons, and “No Parking” signs were posted along the highway in 2018 near the entrance to a shortcut path to the beach opposite the island. . . Visitor Responsibilities: 📝 . Lake Superior Provincial Park is classified as a natural environment park. We can all help to keep it that way by: . Respecting the fragility of the dunes environment. Tread lightly and follow the worn path to the beach without developing your own way there. There are no toilets or garbage bins here. 🚽 Practice backcountry etiquette by packing out whatever you bring in, including used toilet paper/tissues, and leaving no trace, other than your footprints in the sand. 🦶 . . Adhering to park rules regarding camping, cans, bottles and fires which are are prohibited.. 🛑 ✋🏻 . . What you’ll find when you get there: 👀 . Bathtub Island is aptly named because of a depression at one end of the island that collects water whenever the waves are whipped up high enough. You probably won’t be tempted to sit in this bathtub though, the water may have been sitting there for some time! 🛀 . . Once you reach the beach, turn left and walk toward the point that is also the shortest between the beach and the island. 🏖 As you approach the point, a sandbar will reveal itself to you and this will serve as your “bridge” to the island. The sandbar won’t keep you dry though – expect to get your bottom wet so hang your camera equipment accordingly! . . Getting up onto the island is a little bit tricky as well – the smooth round rock, which may be wet, will require you to lean forward as you make your way up the embankment (only 3 feet or so). One of my top spots on Lake Superior 🚙 . . This place holds such a big space in my heart ... nothing spectacular happened here but the time I’ve spent here in solitude has been energizing 💕 So many times heading East on the highway I’d come to the part where the highway overlooks this bay ... it’s breathtaking !!! BUT .. I’d never stop and pull into the parking lot. I’d just drive past, in a hurry to get to where I was going to spend the night 😴 One day that changed. I thought to myself “why not stop and check out this amazing place? I have time”. I pulled into the parking lot, walked onto that sand beach and I was hooked forever ♥️ Nowadays I stop here every single trip. I stop on my way East and then I stop on my way back West. Just pulling out my camping chair, setting it up by the water and sitting is so cathartic. It frees my soul 🌟 The first time I brought my son here was on a trip back from Toronto. He fell in love with Old Woman Bay that day !! I remember how he was just running along the shore and then laying in the sand ... playing in the water 💦 and I’m sure his soul was free that day too!! We spent two hours there that early morning. . . If you ever have a chance this is a part of the Lake Superior coastline you need to see. 📍Bathtub Island ONE YEAR AGO TODAY ….. 🚙 a@planned meet up with my cousins in @lakesuperiorpp and @pancakebaypp What a spectacular day … the cousins visited Katherine Cove, then we had watermelon and apple fritters on the beach. We then hiked over to Bathtub Island and went on the island, swam and played in the water for two hours. ———> THE WATER WAS 24C 😆 On our drive back Pancake Bay we stopped at a small power dam waterfall. Where we parked was just loaded with Monarch Butterflies 🦋 I managed to get one to pose for me too !! How I became addicted to Lake Superior ….. 🚙

I was a Junior Ranger back in 1981 and it was an amazing summer of personal challenges and growth !! 🚙

I flew up to Sault Ste Marie that summer knowing not a soul. All by myself. I was nervous !!! And I was very very homesick that first week too !!!

I worked out of Ranger Lake, Pancake Bay Provincial Park and Lake Superior Provincial Park..... staying in a huge cabin with 25 girls was pretty fun. My bunk mate Monique and I quickly found a common love ......... and that was the group AC DC 🎶

Luckily she had brought her “ghetto blaster” and we would wake up at our 6 am call and just blast Back In Black or Shoot to Thrill and people seemed to love it too cause they’d get into it and bang on the walls lol 😂

That summer I cleaned fire pits out, cleaned campsites and bathrooms. I went on a week long canoe trip with portages (we ran out of food and lived on peanut butter for 24 hours). I planted tress for days and days, cleaned up ditches on the highways and learned how to chop wood and survive in the woods.

Memories are so abundant from this year where I didn’t want to go but dad said I’d love it. He was right !!! It has become one of my most cherished times I’ve had in my life.

Below is our group picture. We had T-shirt’s made, and everyone signed a pillow case with messages and we took pictures like crazy on our last day together.

Sometimes you’d like to turn back the clock and have a do-over and this is one place I’d dial the clock back to ⏰😊 …

…. Ever since that time my love for the big lake grew and grew and hopefully one day I’ll detour back down that gravel road to check out the Ranger Lake camp. I’ve been back to @lakesuperiorpp and @pancakebaypp many times in the past years too ….

🚨 I’m also looking for my bunk mate Monique Savoie. We lost touch after my wedding and I’d love to reconnect with her. So, if you know of her pass this info along to her. Thanks ❤️

Lake Superior Provincial Park is commonly known to be filled with fog. As the prairies warm the air and push it eastward, fog builds up across the water due to the contrasting, cold temperature of Lake Superior. Bucket list. .

Last summer during my second annual #roadtrip with my sister Dianne, we stopped at Bathtub Island.

After finding out about this little gem 💎 and finding out that it was just beside Katherine Cove where I stop every year, we set out to go visit. .

We parked the car and after a little adventure going on the wrong path we arrived at this awesome place. .

It had been raining that morning and we had just finished coming from our campsite 🏕 where we slept in the car 🚙 because we didn’t want to set up the tent in the rain. .

Coming over the crest of the sand dune and seeing this little island was amazing. The water that day was unseasonably warm and we actually walked right into the water for a swim. .

On our way back to the car my sister snapped a picture of Bathtub Island and decided to paint me a picture for my Christmas gift. .

I had no idea she did this and when I opened the present it was heartwarming and amazing. This beautiful time we had at Bathtub Island was now an oil painting that I could hang up and enjoy forever !! ❤️

That was August 2019 that we visited and I’m hoping to stop there once again to take in the beauty of the big lake, Lake Superior. .

This is the boat launch in Marathon Ontario. .

I always head to Pebble Beach every year when I pass by the town ... this past summer, with extra time to spare, I decided to do some extra exploring. .

First stop was the small community museum, which was a great way to learn more about the town of Marathon and it’s history.... then I happened to see a sign for the boat launch. .

Following the sign and getting to the parking lot I could not believe what a beautiful spot I had found. An old rig boat sat in the dock area, there were picnic benches on the rocks and the views of the water were beautiful. .

I noticed some trails along the shore which will be on my list for my next visit. .

I walked around for a bit bit then I just had a seat and took in the views and sounds of Lake Superior. I really enjoyed my hour at this spot and I’m definitely returning on my next pass through town.
