Flower pictures taken in this set are of: 1. Bindweed on the way to Lakeside. 2. Pineappleweed at Lakeside. 3. Purple loosestrife. 4. Some marjoram in the garden area by the visitor centre, I love it in the summer when they come out. 5. Shining ragwort at Lakeside which I liked seeing in the sun today. 6. Vibrant and smashing lady's bedstraw which looked beautiful. 7. Exuberant bird vetch which I enjoyed seeing. 8. St. John's-wort which looked so brightly yellow. 9. My first Lakeside red bartsia of the year which was a treat to see I do like these. 10. Lovely great willowherb at Lakeside.

Other highlights on walks today were thistle, yarrow, wild carrot, fleabane, white clover, hemp agrimony at Lakeside and the bit that comes out near a bench out the front each year, wild parsnip, a smashing clump of viper's-bugloss another I really like, pyramidal orchid and bird's-foot trefoil. Rush was good to see too. It's so nice to take in such a delightful array of flowers, there's so many out currently. The flower bed area on the way to Lakeside is brimming with colour. I really enjoyed seeing lavender and steeplebush in the front garden and buddleia and daylily in the back garden at home.

sophomore  year  of  college  comes  and  enters  damien  sloan!!  27  year  old  high-powered,  absolute  slimeball  of  a  businessman  who  she  met  through  a  high-profile  tournament  he  sponsored.  he  pursued  her  relentlessly  (think  flowers,  advice,  and  lots  of  promises  about  turning  her  into  the  next  sharapova).  she  wasn’t  interested  at  first—too  busy,  honestly—but  eventually,  his  connections  and  the  glamorous  life  he  offered  won  her  over.  they  started  dating  during  her  junior  year,  and  with  his  encouragement,  she  left  school  to  go  pro.  from  20  to  25,  damla’s  career  skyrocketed.  she  cracked  the  top  50  globally,  and  damien,  now  her  manager,  helped  craft  her  image  as  the  “small-town  girl  with  big  dreams,”  scoring  her  tons  of  sponsorships.

in  this  case?  it's  eleven  months  after  giving  birth  that  she's  back  on  the  court  again.  her  performance  is  shaky,  but  it  gets  better  with  time.  that  is  until  she  sustained  a  particularly  bad  shoulder  injury  at  27.  it  forced  her  to  step  away  indefinitely  to  recover,  which  she  worked  tirelessly  to  try  to  do  but,  a  year  later  and  it  became  clear  that,  even  if  she  did,  it  wouldn't  be  near  the  previous  level  of  performance.  her  sponsors  withdrew,  and  she  officially  announced  her  retirement  shortly  after.

author's note: i found an old sanemi draft and decided to finish it and post it. that's it. that's the post lol.

“What would you do if I just kissed you?”

The silver haired delinquent head turned to you with an expression that contorted into something between flustered, disgusted and completely shocked by your utter lack of filter. You were known for it. Whether it was dirty jokes, or just being flat-out brash, you never really minded your words no matter who you were speaking to. So while it shouldn’t have come to a surprise to him, he still was completely caught off guard by your question. 

“What?!” His voice cracked a little as his voice went up a few octaves. 

You leaned your chin on the palm of your hand, closing the distance between the two of you and raised your brows at him.

“What would you do if I kissed you?” You asked again, enunciating every word. 

The apples of his cheeks were getting redder by the moment as he gawked at you in bewilderment. How did you even have the gall to ask him such a thing?

“I feel like you’d like it.” You continued on, as you twirled a strand of hair on to your finger and watched as his bottom lip began to quiver.

You put a finger to your lips. “Don’t you ever wonder how it would feel like to kiss someone, Shinazugawa-san?”

“I—“ He opened his mouth as if to answer your question, but your impudence was bewildering him.

Were you stupid or just that crazy?

Sanemi had tried to rummage through his thoughts for any kind of response, but each time he would come up blank. 

“I think about it quite often to be honest.” You trailed off as you swung your feet off of the shallow ledge of the eroded lakeside that glistened beneath you.

His violet hues widened at your words as he felt his Adam’s apple bob up and down. You turned to meet his gaze and he averted his attention to the glassy water. “Why?”

His voice was quiet when he asked the question. A drastic contrast from the usually boisterous and brazen commentary that he’s always making. A smile grazing at your features as you scooted closer to him, bumping shoulders with him. 

“Maybe because I like you?”

Something about the way you casually voiced your simple confession made his heart jump. Sanemi’s usual crude behavior wasn’t exactly heart throb worthy, but you thoroughly enjoyed it. Although, he didn’t know you enjoyed it so much that you ended up developing feelings for him.

A hand suddenly cupping his cheek and he felt as though he couldn’t move. His lavender eyes now trained on you as you leaned toward him, slowly closing the space between you two.

“Is it okay if I do?” You murmured. You lips only millimeters away from his and his bottom lip quivered in response. 

His approval was in the form of a soft grunt.  You had to bite your tongue to hold back your laughter, but the grin on your face was already more than enough evidence to the thoughts circling your mind. 

Sanemi’s eyes were now focused on your lips as you gently pressed yours against his and he felt his heart rate jolt. It was exhilarating. Your soft, tender lips were on his and he had no idea how to react. These were completely uncharted waters for him. 

Before he knew it your lips had already left his and he felt an unknown feeling bubbling inside of him. Yearning.

He had felt urges every now and then, but not to this extent. He had little spurts of sexual thoughts, and uncontrollable wet dreams that may or may not have included you, but he always pushed those notions to the back of his head. They weren’t the main goal to achieve at the time, but now that you threw the ball in his court it was difficult to avoid his embedded feelings. 

Not even a second had passed before he had captured your lips once again. Sanemi didn’t want to stop. The feeling was so addicting. 

You felt your brows raise in shock as you felt him kiss you back. His calloused hand was on your shoulder and slowly traveled to the back on your neck before he slowly pulled away. 

He had looked more shocked with himself that he had even swooped in for another kiss, but he couldn’t help the feelings that were pushing themselves to the surface.

Flustered, your fingers danced across your lips as you gawked back at him. You hadn’t even thought that Sanemi would kiss you back, but that was another thing you adored about him. He was so unpredictable that it made him so irresistible to you.

“Why do you look shocked?” Judging by the tone of his voice, the reddening of his cheeks and the way his face twisted in embarrassment, he had also been caught in his own stupor at his actions. 

You couldn’t help but giggle at his expression. “You look more shocked than I do!”

You continued to chuckle at him and just went you thought he would relax, Sanemi only felt more humiliated which only fueled your taunting. 

As you continued to press him, he could only keep his attention on the lake, fingers digging into the dirt. You sighed and put a hand on his thigh, causing his body to go rigid. “Relax, I’m only giving you a hard time.”

“I,” He began, breaking the silence. His mouth twisted as he contemplated the words that he wanted to voice to you. He turned to face you and your expression was tender, giving him your utmost attention.

What was this? What was this feeling?

He had never felt a woman’s tenderness. Tenderness that was making him melt as you gazed at him with sweet-tempered eyes and the warmth of your hand on his thigh was driving him mad.

He shook his head. “This is stupid.”

He began to get up and brush himself off, but you caught his wrist. And there it was again, that look in your eyes. He couldn’t say no to anything you would ask of him. Not with the softness that was exuding from you that was making him come down to his knees. 

Literally. Sanemi had literally dropped to his knees. What was the spell that you had put on him?

He felt so entranced by you. He only wanted to please you, even going as far as mentally scolding himself for trying to dismiss you in the first place.  Everything in this moment was against his very nature. 

“I want you to stay.” You clasped both hands over his and you placed a gentle kiss on his scarred hands. 

As if he weren’t already frazzled enough. The blush had spread from his cheeks to the tips of his ears as he felt his insides scramble and he swallowed dryly again. “Okay.”

Your lips curled into a pleasant smile as he sat next to you. The space between you enclosed and you intertwined your fingers with his.

“Is this okay?” 

He peered down at your hands and only nodded. As much as it was sending him into a frenzy to have you so close, touching him and actively wanting his presence in a romantic way, he truly felt tranquil. Even as his heart hammered against his chest, his mind fell quiet as your head leaned against his shoulder. 

Stress and worries evaporated as he listened to the quickening of your own heart. His lips couldn’t help but twitch into a smile as his head gently pressed against yours in response. He could get used to this.

Imagine Sebastian with the Farmer just enjoying nature

It isn't a big surprise that Sebastian would rather stay inside working on his computer or working on his motorcycle. He is the definition of homebody and loner, but there's just something about the farmer that makes him that much more adventurous.

Somehow, they're able to lure him from his room long enough to go somewhere that isn't the lakeside by his home for a drag of a smoke.

He's taken on a small hike to the woods where there's a huge field of flowers. Sunshine hitting the petals, making the dew drops shine like tiny gems on each individual wrinkle. The morning air still with a sharp, crisp coolness.

Yoba only knew how they got Sebastian up so early when he usually slept in until at least 10. However, they were so insistent on taking him here that he gladly obliged, despite the early fall chill in the air.

Blades of wet grass and small specks of mud stuck to his boots like a keepsake of the day as he was guided into the center of the field, a small bench sitting in an opening. It had to have been made by the farmer in their process of restoring the town, because he never knew of this to be sitting out before.

He was eagerly sat down as the farmer raced around the field, labeling all their favorite flowers...marigolds, daisies, lavender stems, irises. He couldn't fight the little smile forming at the corner of his mouth. It was beyond any form of explanation just how adorable the scene before him was.

As he watched them, visions of a small, dark haired child trailing behind the farmer with fists full of sunflowers completed overtook his mind. The fluttering in his chest turned into an all out bass drum pounding. A vision so clear he could have sworn he was hallucinating it. How he went from being so reclusive and independent to in just mere months wanting any moment he had to be with them. Now, here he was imagining something he never once believed to be capable.

The way they stood in the flowers, sun rays illuminated them so much that they looked like an angel, absolutely ethereal.

Maybe these early morning strolls were something he could do more often with them. Anything to see them in such a breathtaking view. Words couldn't come from his mouth. He just could admire the truthfully most beautiful thing he had in this world.

The flowers were nice too, but not as nice as them.

He was going love nature more, especially if it meant seeing you so happy and astonishingly beautiful.

Los Lobos at Midland Theatre, Newark, Ohio, July 14, 2023

Fifty years into their career, Los Lobos are still David Hidlago, Louie Pérez, Conrad Lozano, Cesar Rosas and Steve Berlin.

And they are still, on any given night, the best live band in America.*

On July 14 at Newark, Ohio’s, Midland Theatre, the band made the case again and again across a 100-minute set whose 22 songs spanned their recording career from 1984’s “Will the Wolf Survive” through tracks from 2021’s Native Sons (the grinding, 1950’s rock ’n’ roll of “Flat Top Joint” being the highlight) with covers of the Grateful Dead, Neil Young and, of course, Ritchie Valens thrown in for good measure.

Berlin - who played keys, woodwinds and percussion - joined in 1982. Hidalgo (guitar, accordion), Pérez (guitar, jarana, drums), Lozano (bass) and Rosas (southpaw guitar) - have been around since 1973. And with touring drummer Alfredo Ortiz finding his place since joining in 2021, the band is as tight as only a group of musicians who’ve played together for so long can be.

They came out hot, with Hidalgo singing the jangly “One Time, One Night,” followed by Rosas on the bluesy “Wicked Rain.” And it was immediately clear that though their hair is whiter and thinner and Lozano spends a portion of the show seated on his amp, Los Lobos are having as much fun as ever as the Wolves smiled at one another, interacted with the crowd of what Rosas calls “music lovers,” and cued solos with eye contact and the swiping of arms.

So it went that a funked-up version of the Dead’s “West L.A. Fadeaway” included an electrifying interlude of solos that moved from Hidalgo and Pérez’s guitars to Berlin’s baritone saxophone and back to Rosas’ grimy axe. Hidalgo sung this one - which Rosas dedicated to “all of Jerry’s kids” - along with the audience-singalong “Not Fade Away” -> “Bertha” which came later and found Hidalgo and Pérez playing in six-string harmony a la the Allman Brothers.

While “La Bamba,” as is usually the case, came last (with the Rascals’ “Good Lovin’” slipped inside), the Wolves had previously nodded to their platinum era with an exhilarating reading of Valens’ “Come On, Let’s Go” that kept the half-full house, much of which was on its feet for “Chuco’s Cumbia,” dancing like no one was watching.

Hidalgo, whose high tenor remains virtually unchanged, strapped on the squeezebox for a sinewy and spooky rendition of “Kiko and the Lavender Moon,” sung in harmony with Rosas. And then, as the band looked back to their days playing weddings in East Los Angeles, Pérez took his old place behind the kit for a bit of Spanish polka.

There was a jazzy break - and an opportunity for Berlin to really work the baritone sax - amid a chunky reading of “The Neighborhood” as the band and audience sung together: Thank you lord for another day, help my brother along his way/please bring peace to the neighborhood.

And Lobos meant it.

Returning for the encore, Hidalgo and Pérez, who turned in a blazing guitar solo, sung Young’s “Cinnamon Girl” together to fill a fan’s request. And when the aforementioned “La Bamba” ended, Lozano flashed a peace sign as he stopped to the mic to give the audience the band’s parting message:

“Be safe.”

*Los Lobos were so good last night, Sound Bites is heading to Lakeside for tonight’s gig.

21/07/2023-Lakeside and home

A lovely young Moorhen I enjoyed seeing, they have great stark colours and I saw Moorhens well generally today. 8. One of a couple of Collared Dove I really liked seeing at Lakeside, I'm more used to seeing them at home so it's always a novelty seeing them at Lakeside.

Alongside the geese and butterflies and moths mentioned in my last two posts about today, I enjoyed seeing House Martins delightful birds sailing through the air and hearing Chiffchaff well beside the lakes on both walks. Other highlights today were; seeing both families of Great Crested Grebes and lots of Mallards well again, Blackbird, Robin, Blue Tit, good views of Feral Pigeon and Magpie, Black-tailed Skimmer, Common Red Soldier beetles, burdock I believe greater burdock, dark mullein, knapweed, thistle including fluffy seed heads which were illuminated by the evening sun that I enjoyed today, daisy, agrimony, hemp agrimony, St. John's-wort, meadow crane's-bill, herb-Robert, purple loosestrife, red bartsia which is coming into its own here now and cuckoo-pint. Woodpigeon, House Sparrow and Lesser Black-backed Gull out the front were other great birds to see at home today with bees flitting around the lavender seen well in the front garden and buddleia and agrimony and other flowers I liked seeing in the garden.
