How to Plan the Ultimate Outdoor Picnic Birthday Party
An outdoor picnic birthday party is the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion in a relaxed and scenic setting. Whether youâre planning a birthday for a child, a friend, or even yourself, outdoor picnics provide a unique and charming experience. From selecting the ideal location to setting up the perfect dĂ©cor and organizing fun activities, this guide will help you plan an unforgettable celebration under the open sky.
Choosing the Perfect Location for an Outdoor Picnic Birthday Party
The first step in planning an outdoor picnic birthday party is choosing a beautiful and accessible location. Some great spots for outdoor picnics include:
Public Parks: Many parks offer picnic tables, open spaces, and playgrounds for kids.
Beaches: A beach picnic combines sun, sand, and waves for a fun birthday celebration.
Gardens or Botanical Parks: Ideal for a peaceful and picturesque setting.
Lakesides: Enjoy a refreshing breeze and stunning views.
Backyard Picnic: A perfect option for those who prefer a private space.
Before finalizing your location, check for amenities such as restrooms, shade, and parking. If you're using a public space, make sure to review any permit requirements.
Setting Up Your Outdoor Picnic Birthday Party
The setup of your outdoor picnic birthday party is crucial in creating the perfect atmosphere. A well-decorated space can elevate the entire experience and make it more memorable.
Picnic Essentials:
Blankets and Rugs: Comfortable seating is key; opt for soft picnic blankets or low tables with cushions.
Tables & Seating: If available, use picnic tables or portable foldable tables.
Shade & Protection: Consider bringing a pop-up tent, umbrellas, or a canopy for sun protection.
Themed Decor: Balloons, fairy lights, and fresh flowers can add charm to the setup.
Personalized Touches: Name cards, customized party favors, or a themed cake table.
Delicious Food and Drinks for Outdoor Picnics
One of the best parts of outdoor picnics is the delicious food! Choose a menu that is easy to transport and can be enjoyed without too much hassle.
Picnic Food Ideas:
Finger Sandwiches: Ham & cheese, cucumber & cream cheese, or turkey & avocado.
Cheese & Fruit Platters: A selection of cheeses, grapes, and crackers.
Salads in Jars: Pasta salad, Greek salad, or quinoa salad for easy serving.
Mini Wraps & Sliders: Convenient and mess-free options for guests.
Cupcakes & Cookies: Sweet treats that are easy to distribute.
Beverages: Fresh lemonade, iced tea, or fruit-infused water in dispensers.
Fun Activities for an Outdoor Picnic Birthday Party
To keep guests entertained, plan fun activities that suit both kids and adults. Here are some ideas:
Outdoor Games & Entertainment:
Classic Lawn Games: Frisbee, badminton, sack races, or tug-of-war.
Scavenger Hunt: Create a nature-themed treasure hunt for guests.
Arts & Crafts Station: Let kids design their own picnic hats or tote bags.
Live Music or Karaoke: Bring a portable speaker and encourage singalongs.
DIY Photo Booth: Set up a fun backdrop for capturing memories.
Safety and Comfort Tips
Since an outdoor picnic birthday party takes place in nature, itâs important to consider safety and comfort measures:
Weather Planning: Check the forecast and have a backup indoor plan if necessary.
Bug Repellent: Bring citronella candles or bug spray to keep insects away.
Sun Protection: Provide sunscreen and hats for guests.
Waste Management: Have designated trash bags and recycling bins to keep the area clean.
First Aid Kit: Be prepared with band-aids, antiseptics, and allergy medications.
Party Favors and Souvenirs
Send your guests home with a special memory from your outdoor picnic birthday party. Some thoughtful party favor ideas include:
Mini Picnic Baskets: Filled with snacks and small gifts.
Reusable Water Bottles: A practical and eco-friendly choice.
Personalized Candles or Soaps: A charming keepsake.
Seed Packets: A unique gift to encourage sustainability.
Conclusion
Planning an outdoor picnic birthday party is a fantastic way to celebrate a special day in a relaxed and picturesque environment. Whether you choose a park, beach, or your own backyard, a well-organized outdoor picnic can create lasting memories for you and your guests. From setting up cozy picnic spaces to serving delicious food and organizing fun games, every detail contributes to making the event special. So grab your picnic blanket, invite your loved ones, and enjoy a wonderful celebration under the sun!

However, to transform your outdoor venue into a magical space, the right marriage decoration in Coimbatore is essential. In this blog, weâll explore stunning decoration ideas that will make your outdoor wedding unforgettable.
Why Choose an Outdoor Wedding in Coimbatore?
Coimbatoreâs favorable climate and natural beauty make outdoor weddings an increasingly popular choice. From sprawling gardens to scenic lakesides, the city has an array of stunning venues that provide the perfect setting for a wedding.
Benefits of Outdoor Weddings:
Breathtaking Views: Choose from a variety of landscapes like gardens, farms, or beaches.
Fresh Air and Natural Light: Enjoy the beauty of nature and the freedom to customize your décor.
Customizable Settings: From rustic to elegant, outdoor weddings can be tailored to fit your personal style.
Now that we understand the appeal of outdoor weddings in Coimbatore, letâs dive into the most popular and creative decoration ideas to make your day special.
Stunning Outdoor Wedding Decoration Ideas
1. Floral Arches and Mandaps Floral arches are a stunning addition to any outdoor wedding in Coimbatore. They not only enhance the natural beauty of the venue but also serve as an ideal spot for your ceremony. A beautifully crafted arch with vibrant flowers such as jasmine, roses, and orchids will add elegance to the space.
Tip: Consider using local flowers that are both budget-friendly and culturally significant, such as marigolds, jasmine, and lilies. Pair them with drapes to add a touch of sophistication.
2. Elegant Table Settings Outdoor tables need to reflect the theme and atmosphere of the venue. Incorporate natural elements such as wooden tables, rustic centerpieces, and lush greenery. Add candles or fairy lights for an enchanting glow after sunset.
Tip: For a more rustic feel, use wooden crates, mason jars, and natural linens for the table decor. If you're opting for a more elegant look, choose fine china, glassware, and crystal candelabras.
3. Beautiful Lighting and Lanterns The right lighting can create a magical atmosphere. Consider using lanterns, fairy lights, or chandeliers to add warmth and charm to your outdoor wedding. String lights hung across trees or around the venue create a soft, romantic glow.
Tip: Use warm-toned lighting to make the evening more inviting and ensure the venue looks enchanting even after dark.
4. Lush Greenery and Pathway Decorations Coimbatoreâs outdoor venues are often surrounded by lush greenery, so itâs important to highlight this natural beauty in your decorations. Use greenery to line walkways, drape over furniture, or as table centerpieces. This not only enhances the venue but adds an earthy touch to the atmosphere.
Tip: You can use a combination of tropical plants and florals to create elegant, yet rustic, displays.
5. Themed Backdrops for Photos Set up a dedicated photo area with a beautiful backdrop. This can be a floral wall, a hanging fabric curtain, or even a rustic wooden board adorned with flowers. Guests and the couple can take memorable pictures in front of these stunning backdrops, making for timeless memories.
Tip: Incorporate your wedding theme into the backdrop â whether it's a boho chic, rustic farm, or vintage elegance.

These small towns scattered across the country are designated for their historical, cultural, or natural beauty, and each offers something unique that transports travelers to a simpler, enchanting side of Mexico. Whether youâre looking for colonial charm, mystical landscapes, or vibrant folk art, these towns offer a refreshing escape from city life. Letâs take a journey through a few of Mexicoâs most magical spots, each with its own story, charm, and soul.
San Miguel de Allende: Colonial Charm and Artistic Soul
Nestled in the heart of Mexico, San Miguel de Allende is famous for its cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and vibrant arts scene. Start your visit at Parroquia de San Miguel ArcĂĄngel, a neo-Gothic church with pink spires that dominate the skyline. From there, stroll through the JardĂn Principal, the townâs main square, filled with shaded benches and street musicians. San Miguel de Allende has a thriving arts community, and youâll find many galleries and workshops showcasing the works of local and international artists. Donât miss the FĂĄbrica La Aurora, a former textile factory now converted into an art and design center.
Local Tip: To get a true taste of San Miguelâs flavor, visit Mercado de ArtesanĂas and explore handmade crafts, jewelry, and traditional Mexican textiles.
Valle de Bravo: Lake Views and Mountain Vibes
Just two hours from Mexico City, Valle de Bravo is a lakeside town that offers scenic views and plenty of outdoor activities. The main attraction is Lake AvĂĄndaro, where visitors can rent sailboats, go fishing, or simply enjoy a meal by the water with a view of the surrounding mountains. The town itself is charming, with narrow streets, whitewashed buildings, and red-tiled roofs. Adventure lovers can try paragliding over the lake, offering a birdâs-eye view of Valle de Bravoâs natural beauty.
Local Tip: For a quieter experience, take a hike to Velo de Novia, a waterfall located in a forested area just outside town. Itâs a serene spot that showcases the areaâs natural charm.
Taxco: The Silver City on a Hill
Known as Mexicoâs âSilver Capital,â Taxco is a picturesque town that sits on a steep hillside in the state of Guerrero. Renowned for its silver mines and jewelry artisans, Taxco is the perfect place to shop for high-quality silver pieces. The townâs historic center, with its winding cobblestone streets, is lined with colonial buildings and whitewashed houses adorned with red-tiled roofs. The Santa Prisca Church, a baroque masterpiece built in the 18th century, is one of the townâs most notable landmarks and a symbol of its rich mining past.
Local Tip: Donât miss the Tianguis de Plata, the townâs silver market, where artisans sell their handmade jewelry and silverware. Itâs an ideal spot to find unique souvenirs.
PĂĄtzcuaro: A Journey into Indigenous Tradition
Located in the state of MichoacĂĄn, PĂĄtzcuaro is a town where indigenous PurĂ©pecha culture blends seamlessly with colonial heritage. The townâs main plaza, Plaza Vasco de Quiroga, is one of Mexicoâs most beautiful squares, surrounded by historic buildings and shaded by massive trees. PĂĄtzcuaro is known for its Day of the Dead celebrations, which attract visitors from all over the world. During this time, the nearby Lake PĂĄtzcuaro is adorned with candles and marigolds in a celebration honoring the deceased.
Local Tip: Visit Casa de los Once Patios, a former convent turned artisan market, where local craftsmen showcase their skills in pottery, textiles, and other traditional arts.
Bernal: The Town by the Monolith
Bernal is famous for its gigantic monolith, Peña de Bernal, which towers over the town and is one of the largest monoliths in the world. Visitors can hike up part of the rock for a stunning panoramic view of the town and surrounding countryside. Bernal is also known for its cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and vibrant artisanal markets. The town is quiet, with a friendly atmosphere, making it a peaceful retreat.
Local Tip: Sample gorditas de maĂz quebrado, a local corn-based snack, at one of Bernalâs traditional eateries. These handmade treats are often filled with cheese, beans, or meat and are perfect for a quick bite.
Tequila: More Than Just a Drink
In the town of Tequila, Jalisco, the drink of the same name takes center stage. Surrounded by fields of blue agave, this town is the birthplace of Mexicoâs iconic spirit. Visitors can tour local distilleries to learn about the tequila-making process and sample different varieties. Wander through the townâs colorful streets, stopping by the National Museum of Tequila for a deeper dive into the history and culture of this drink.
Local Tip: For a truly unique experience, take the Jose Cuervo Express train from Guadalajara to Tequila, which offers scenic views of the agave fields and a tequila tasting session.
Real de Catorce: A Mystical Desert Escape
Real de Catorce is a former silver mining town in the state of San Luis PotosĂ, now known for its surreal desert landscapes and mystical ambiance. Accessed through a long one-way tunnel, Real de Catorce feels like a town frozen in time. Visitors can explore the townâs stone streets, visit the Iglesia de la PurĂsima ConcepciĂłn, and even take a horseback ride into the nearby mountains. The area is considered sacred by the indigenous Huichol people, who make annual pilgrimages here.
Local Tip: Join a local guide to explore the nearby Wirikuta Desert, where you can learn about the areaâs unique ecosystem and spiritual significance to the Huichol people.
Practical Tips for Exploring Mexicoâs Magical Towns
Exploring these towns is a journey through Mexicoâs heart and soul, but travel can be complex without a bit of planning. Look for travel agencies like Roomchai Limited, Journey Mexico, or Mexicoscapes that specialize in cultural and historical tours around Mexicoâs lesser-known destinations. These agencies can provide valuable insights, guided experiences, and convenient travel arrangements, allowing you to fully enjoy Mexicoâs rich tapestry of landscapes and traditions.

Glamping Party ideas: Create Memorable Celebrations
How to Plan the Ultimate Glamping Party: Ideas for a Memorable Celebration
Glamping, the fusion of "glamorous" and "camping," has taken the world by storm. It's not just a way to immerse yourself in the great outdoors; it's also an excellent choice for throwing memorable parties. Whether it's a birthday bash or a get-together with friends, here's your guide to planning the ultimate glamping party.
Setting the Scene
Choosing the Perfect Location
The key to a successful glamping party is the location. You want a place that's both visually stunning and accessible to your guests. Consider the scenic beauty and accessibility of potential sites. Mountains, lakesides, and forests offer breathtaking backdrops. However, also think about local weather conditions, especially if you're planning an outdoor event. You wouldn't want rain to dampen your glamping spirit.
Creating a Cozy and Engaging Atmosphere
Setting the right atmosphere is crucial. Selecting a theme can tie everything together. Are you going for a rustic, bohemian, or modern vibe? The theme helps guide your decoration choices. When it comes to seating arrangements, opt for cozy setups. Think comfy cushions, rugs, and bean bags to make your guests feel at home.
Setting Up Tents or Cabins
Glamping accommodations can vary from luxurious tents to charming cabins. Consider the pros and cons of each. Tents offer a more authentic camping experience, while cabins provide extra comfort. Personalize your accommodations with fairy lights, comfy bedding, and thoughtful amenities for a truly memorable stay.
Decorations
Outdoor Lighting to Set the Mood
String lights, lanterns, and candles can transform your glamping site into a magical wonderland. These elements not only add a touch of romance but also provide practical lighting for the evening. Solar-powered lights can illuminate pathways, ensuring safety and aesthetics.
Bohemian-Inspired Decor for a Natural Feel
Embrace natural elements like wood, stone, and plants in your decor. Textiles, rugs, and pillows add warmth and comfort. This bohemian touch creates a cozy atmosphere and enhances the overall experience.
Wildflower Centerpieces: Adding Elegance to Nature
Wildflower centerpieces bring a touch of elegance to your glamping party. Consider using local wildflowers, which not only add beauty but also connect your celebration to the surrounding environment. Crafting DIY wildflower centerpieces can be a fun pre-party activity.
Food and Drinks
Campfire Cooking Ideas: Savoring the Outdoors
Cast iron cooking and campfire grilling offer rustic yet delicious meal options. From hearty breakfast skillets to sizzling evening barbecues, there's no shortage of campfire cooking ideas to satisfy your guests' appetites.
S'mores Bar: A Sweet, Interactive Delight
No glamping party is complete without s'mores. Elevate this classic treat with gourmet s'mores options, including unique ingredients like caramel-filled chocolate and flavored marshmallows. Set up a s'mores bar for interactive dessert fun.
Signature Glamping Cocktails: Cheers to Nature's Beauty
Craft cocktails mixed in the wild can be a highlight of your party. Incorporate nature-inspired garnishes like herbs and edible flowers to add a fresh twist. Your guests will toast to the beauty of the outdoors.
Rustic Picnic-Style Meals: Wholesome Dining in the Wild
Plan a glamping picnic with DIY gourmet sandwiches and fresh salads. It's a wholesome and hassle-free way to dine while surrounded by nature. Consider using locally sourced ingredients to support the community.
Entertainment and Activities
DIY Beauty Stations: Glam Up in the Great Outdoors
Set up DIY beauty stations for your guests to pamper themselves. Offer natural beauty hacks, skincare, and makeup tips. Outdoor spas can provide massages and relaxation in the lap of nature.
Nature-Inspired Crafts: Unleash Your Inner Artist
Engage your guests with nature-inspired crafts. Crafting with natural materials and outdoor art classes allow everyone to connect with nature through creativity.
Outdoor Movie Night: Cinematic Magic Under the Stars
Transform your glamping site into an outdoor theater. Setting up an outdoor theater with the right equipment and choosing glamping-appropriate films can provide cinematic magic under the stars.
Campfire Storytelling: Tales by the Firelight
Gather around the campfire for storytelling. Mastering the art of campfire stories and sharing ghost stories and legends can create spine-tingling narratives that enhance the glamping experience.
Games and Competitions
Scavenger Hunts: Adventure Awaits
Create custom scavenger hunts with thematic clues, and consider nighttime scavenger hunts for a starry challenge. Scavenger hunts are a fantastic way to explore the surroundings.
Outdoor Games (e.g., Cornhole, Horseshoes): Classic Fun
Classic outdoor games like cornhole and horseshoes are crowd-pleasers. Organize a glamping Olympics for friendly competitions, or provide board games and card games for cozy indoor options.
Glamping-Themed Costume Contest: Dress to Impress
Encourage your guests to dress up in glamping-themed costumes. Offer DIY costume ideas that combine elements of nature and glamour. Select judges and criteria to crown the glamping fashionista.
Talent Show by the Campfire: Unleash Your Inner Star
Allow your guests to showcase their talents. Acts and performances can range from music and dance to skits and campfire karaoke. It's a chance for everyone to shine.
Pampering and Relaxation
Yoga or Meditation Sessions: Zen in Nature's Lap
Nature provides the perfect backdrop for yoga and meditation sessions. Explore outdoor yoga poses and guided meditation to help your guests find inner peace and relaxation.
Spa Treatments in Nature: Rejuvenation Amongst the Trees
Pamper your guests with spa treatments in the heart of nature. DIY spa treatments using natural ingredients or arranging relaxing massage sessions can be the ultimate indulgence.
Outdoor Massage Stations: Relaxed Bliss in the Open Air
Set up outdoor massage stations for guests to experience relaxed bliss in the open air. Ensure you have the essentials and proper setup to offer this luxurious experience. Consider hiring professional masseuses for a touch of luxury.
Music and Dancing
Creating a Glamping Playlist: Tunes for Every Mood
Curate a glamping playlist with songs that match the mood. Consider curating your glamping playlist with song selection tips, or include nature sounds and ambient music to add to the atmosphere.
Hiring a Live Band or DJ: Dance Under the Starlit Sky
If you want to take the party to the next level, hire a live band or DJ. Dancing under the starlit sky can be an unforgettable experience. Ensure you have the right setup, and your guests will groove the night away.
Organizing a Dance Floor under the Stars: Groove the Night Away
Set up a dance floor under the stars, complete with comfortable footwear and proper lighting. Twilight dance parties can create magical moments on the dance floor.
Capturing the Memories
Hiring a Professional Photographer: Freeze the Moments
Hiring a professional photographer is essential to capture the moments beautifully. Make sure to find the right glamping photographer, plan your photoshoot locations, and discuss your vision.
Setting Up a DIY Photo Booth: Snap, Smile, Repeat
Set up a DIY photo booth with props and backdrops. It's a fun way for your guests to snap memorable pictures throughout the event. Consider creating a shared photo album to collect these memories.
Creating a Shared Photo Album: Reminiscing the Joy
Whether digital or physical, a shared photo album allows you and your guests to reminisce about the joyous moments long after the glamping party is over. Consider using glamping party hashtags for social media albums.
My Personal Opinion
I suggest setting up cozy tents, offering gourmet s'mores, and organizing starlit dance parties. It creates unforgettable moments, blending nature's beauty with the magic of celebration
Safety and Sustainability
Safety Measures: Ensuring a Fun and Secure Experience
Safety should be a top priority. Discuss fire safety practices, the importance of first aid kits, and general safety guidelines to ensure a fun and secure experience.
Eco-Friendly Glamping: Celebrate Nature Responsibly
Embrace eco-friendly practices to celebrate nature responsibly. Educate your guests about the Leave No Trace ethic of glamping, recycling, and waste management.
Cost Considerations: Budgeting for Your Dream Glamping Party
Planning a glamping party can involve various costs. Share tips and tricks for budgeting, and don't forget to account for hidden expenses that may arise during the planning process.
Local Regulations
Checking Local Rules: Staying Within Legal Boundaries
Before the party, check local rules and regulations to ensure you're within legal boundaries. Explore the permit and permission requirements, noise regulations, and how to maintain harmony with neighbors.
This comprehensive guide will help you plan the ultimate glamping party, making it a memorable celebration for you and your guests. With the right location, atmosphere, activities, and safety measures in place, your glamping party will be a resounding success. Now, let the party planning begin!
Happy Glamping!

She was slowly brought to consciousness by the restful sound of running water, trickling and skipping, over rocks. Eventually that sound began to fade, but linger in the background as she began to hear the tweets of birds in trees, the scramble of small animals in bushes, and the sound of footsteps brushing through dry leaves. She could smell the freshness of grass, the subtle scent of wild flowers, and the aroma of something green and growing in water.
She opened her eyes and was immediately blinded by the sun striking her face. She hastily closed her eyes. After a while the brightness behind her eyelids was replaced with an almost absolute darkness tinged with a vibrant green. She cracked her eyelids open just enough to see, her long dark eyelashes blocking most of the sun. Through her eyelashes she could discern green leaves above her, sparkling with the reflection of the sun through the tree branches. Rolling her head to the right she could see grass growing around her, gently rising to the moss growing on the tree trunks whose branches were sheltering her from most of the harsh sunlight. Rolling her head carefully to the left, her eyes were drawn up to a waterfall that splashed and crashed its way over algae covered boulders, to a deep blue lake surrounded by a white sandy beach, gently giving way to the grass on which she lay.Â
Slowly, as she gathered her wits about her, she lifted her upper body to a sitting position, but before she could lift her head a handspan above the ground, a stabbing, piercing pain afflicted her above her eyes, extending to her ears. She immediately grabbed her face with her hands, and rolled over, cradling her head back down to the ground, where she rested until the pain subsided enough for her to prop herself up on her elbows. From this semi-upright position, she had a much better view of where she was. Her eyes followed the waterfall up the cliff side, and saw that past the waterfall the walls that formed the cliff slowly merged with the surrounding forest. The sunlight winked off of ripples in the lake, and created multiple rainbows from the water pounding down the cliff into the pool below. Under the trees, the light was transformed from blinding and yellow, into soft and green tinted. An errant breeze from behind her brought with it the smell of a wood fire, alarmed, she twisted around, impervious for the moment to the pain racking her head, scared that the wood fire smell was a forest fire intruding on her peaceful lakeside.
Tucked back under the first line of trees was an A-frame log cabin, with a covered porch. It had a cleared, sandy area in front holding a cheerful fire. The cabin looked isolated, yet homely. There were no lines coming to the cabin, and no sign of life around the cabin, save for the fire cracking and smoking as it devoured the wood that was its fuel.
Seeing that the fire was contained safely, she relaxed enough to turn back to her stomach and rest some more, until she felt her body could hold the weight of her head, which seemed to have increased by fifty pounds.
Slowly she moved into a cross legged position, with her head cradled in her hands. As she waited for the pain to stop making the world spin around her, a new noise came from just a few feet in front of her, accompanied by a smell that momentarily brought her back to her childhood, and made her feel safe and secure.
"Randy?" She whispered, with her eyes shut tight, as strong arms cradled her, and gently lifted her to a standing position.
"Rest your head on my shoulder Sam, I'll take you to the house." Randy answered as he gently guided her past the fire, and up the steps to the covered porch of the log cabin.
As soon as they passed into the shade on the porch, Samantha's body relaxed slightly. She heard the door open, and was guided to another door inside the cabin. Randy brought Samantha down to the basement as if he was leading a child, gently, slowly, one step at a time. Once Samantha no longer felt the sun on her body, she cracked her eyes open, and looked around the basement. She couldn't see much in her dark-room. In the natural light seeping through the open door she could make out a comfortable bed, lots of toasty blankets, a glass of water, with condensation rolling down the side, and her medications lined up for consumption. Randy took her straight to the bed, gently sat her down, and removed her shoes.
"It's a bad one today, isn't it?" He whispered.
"Yes." She whispered in reply.
Randy gathered her medications in one hand, and handed her the water with his other hand. After she took a long gulp, he gave her the medications they both hoped would decrease the pain. She took the multitude of pills in one large gulp. Randy waited a few moments for her to drink more if she wanted it, then placed her water back on the table. He gently lifted Samantha's feet to the bed, while guiding her head to the pillows. As he quietly made his way back to the staircase, he pressed play on the battery operated tape deck, and soothing nature sounds quietly filled the small dark room.
Samantha heaved a deep sigh of relief as she heard Randy walking up the steps and closing the door above. With her eyes closed, she began hearing the rhythmic sounds of a guided meditation filling the room. As she lay there listening she slowly drifted into a deep, healing sleep.
Hours passed, and she slowly regained consciousness, realizing the meditation was over, and that her pain had decreased enough to allow her to lift her head from the cradling pillow with extreme caution. She slowly propped herself up on her elbows, and wondered what time it was. More time passed, how much exactly, she wasn't sure. In the dark room there was no light to signal the passing of time, and no noise intruded into her secret sanctuary. Samantha was finally able to sit upright without excruciating pain, so she slowly began gathering her wits. Relying on her memory of where things were placed in her dark room, she reached over and clicked on a soft white shaded flashlight.Â
Samantha let out another relaxing sigh of relief when the light did not trigger more pain. With the light she could see her way to the staircase. Holding her cup of water in one hand and the flashlight in the other, she slowly walked to the base of the staircase in her stocking feet. The moment she reached the bottom of the stairs, the door at the top cracked open silently, and she saw Randy's face peeking in to see how she was. When he noticed she was standing mostly upright at the bottom of the stairs, he opened the door wider to give her more natural light.Â
Seeing the door open, and with the ambient light pouring in, she turned the flashlight off, and placed it on the waiting table by the base of the stairs. Samantha slowly made her way up the stairs with the help of the railing. Meeting Randy at the top, she was grateful for his assistance to get to the cream colored, sectional couch with a chaise, in front of the fireplace.Â
"Are you hungry?" Randy asked softly, "It's been six hours since you laid down."
"Food sounds good right now." Samantha replied.
As Randy walked to the kitchen, Samantha once more looked around her house, wondering at the beauty of her sanctuary from the world. Snuggling into her softly cushioned chaise, she pulled a warm, soft, blue blanket over her feet; placed her water on the white, ceramic coaster, centered on a cherry wood table by the arm of her chaise lounge. Her most recent book choice was still placed on the glass and metal coffee table, where she had left it the previous night. At this time of day the fireplace was cold ashes, and gray stone; but the white marble mantle above held mementos from her life. Her wedding photo was surrounded by silver candlesticks holding the unity candle from their ceremony. The walls of her living room were paneled in a light pine that accentuated the darkly framed art from Japan sprinkled on the walls. Through the arch to her left she could see the ecru color of her kitchen walls, and the slightly darker wood cabinets. Samantha could also smell the logs used to heat up the stove, and hear the sound of metal clinking against metal, letting her know that her food was being prepared by Randy. To the right, she saw her sitting room, which she knew was full of her favorite books, crafts in progress, and her reliable typewriter. Even knowing it was there, she could barely make out the light teal color of the walls, and the comfortable black chair she loved to curl up in; because of the setting sun.
Noticing the setting sun, she reached next to her water, and lit the candle waiting on the table. In the candle light and the red glow from the kitchen, she could make out the rich maple color of her wooden floors, as well as the deep pile of cream rugs scattered around.Â

MIKEYâS PERSONAL BLOG 140, January 2019
On Saturday afternoon, my parents and I checked into the Bellevue On The Lakes motel, located between the North Arm and Cunningham Arm of Lakes Entrance. Weâve actually stayed here before but this time we thought weâd try booking one of the apartments with a back end view of the lakes. As usual, the long three hour drive had made me sleepy and restless so I didnât feel like doing much when we got here. https://www.bellevuelakes.com.au/
We did go for a walk down to the local ALDI store to buy some groceries plus relaxed outside on the front patio area. Itâs a very spacious accommodation with a living area, sofas and large flat screen TV, glass dining table, a kitchen, bathroom, master bedroom and spare bedroom with a trundle bunk bed. Thereâs also a swimming pool and BBQ area located on site plus the Albert & Co - Coffee Food Catering restaurant, where weâve actually booked for dinner tonight. Â https://www.bellevuelakes.com.au/facilities-home
On Sunday morning, we had a bit of a rocky start (literally) with one of the rear tires going flat on Rodâs car. Luckily we had a spare in the back and was able to change it over. We also discovered that someone (most likely one of the kids) who stayed overnight at Bellevue must have deliberately let air out of the tire as there was no sign of piercing or slashing. We briefly drove down to Paynesville to visit the Paynesville Community Craft Centre then had some lunch at The Fig Cafe.
Thereâs something really calming about watching the waves go in and out anywhere in East Gippsland. The scent was a mixture of strong brine, seaweed and salt water as a moderately cool breeze blows across my skin. Later that Sunday afternoon, we visited the Nyerimilang Park which is located about 10km North-West of Lakes Entrance. It resides on a cliff-top which overlooks many of the Gippsland Lakes and surrounding islands. https://nyerimilang.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=where-to-find-nyerimilang-park-nungurner
The heritage park contains a variety of bush walking tracks plus lots of plant and bird life. Then there is the Nyrimerlang Park Homestead which was originally built by Frank Stuart 1894 which would be his family home for fishing and shooting near the Gippsland Lakes. During the 1920âs, the homestead was passed on to his son Frank Stuart Jnr who extended the property, developed the gardens and hired a few housemaids and a gardener. https://nyerimilang.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=history-of-the-homestead
On Monday lunchtime, we visited the Lakes Entrance Mechanics Hall where they had an exhibition on to learn about dolphins, sponsored by the Marine Mammal Foundation. We discovered that there are only about 65 dolphins remaining around the Gippsland Lakes area each distinguished by the unique shape of their fin. It also talked about their diets, communication using echolocation and similarities in anatomy and bone structure compared to humans. https://www.lakesentrance.com/2-uncategorised/40-burrunan-dolphins?buttons=1&detail=0&tmpl=component
On Monday afternoon, we went on a short trip down to the Main Beach Lakes Entrance located over the Footbridge. I decided to bring out the beach shelter that I bought recently and set it up down near the red-and-yellow flag. I was very relaxing listening to the sound of the waves crashing down on the sand. I only dipped my feet in the water as it wasnât hot enough to go in completely. https://www.lakesentrance.com/explore/beaches/item/main-beach
On Tuesday morning, my parents and I visited the Cells Cafe in Bairnsdale (located on Nicholson Street, close to Kmart). This is a regular attraction for us as Cells is run by Noweyung who provide disability and employment support services. The cafe staff are all local people who have disabilities and many different strengths and capabilities. They always provide excellent customer service, great food and are in a very friendly, relaxed environment. http://noweyung.org.au/the-cells-cafe/
On Tuesday afternoon, we dropped into Dahlsens Mitre 10 Bairnsdale and had lunch at the New Leaf Cafe. Considering it was lunchtime, the whole cafe was buzzing and packed with people so we were really lucky to get a vacant table. We decided to order some mixed sandwiches as well as cappuccinos. This is a very big Mitre 10 store with a garden and trade center, a variety of gifts, ornaments, decorations, outdoor furniture and bunches of flowers. Â http://newleafdahlsens.com.au/
On Wednesday lunchtime, we stopped at The Barn at Kalimna - Cafe 4.9 for lunch which is located on the outskirts of Lakes Entrance. The cafe is found inside a large barn-shaped dwelling with stunning views of the hilly landscape that is Kalimna West. We decided to sit on the opposite side underneath the market umbrella. I ordered the summer burger which contained crispy deep-fried chicken, pineapple, coleslaw, herb fries and a garden salad. https://the-barn-at-kalimna.business.site/
On Wednesday afternoon, my parents and I went on a lovely cruise aboard the Thunderbird boat from Peels Lake Cruises in Lakes Entrance. Departing at 2pm, we went on a two and a half hour cruise which covers Lake King and Lake Victoria via Metung, Raymond Island and Paynesville. We spotted lots of marine and birdlife including seals, pelicans, black swans, ibises, cormorants and herons. We also saw plenty of lakeside properties with their own private jetties and boats. https://www.lakesentrance.com/cruises/charter-cruise/item/peels-cruises
We stayed on the top deck for most of the duration until the strong winds and sun got a bit too intense for us and we moved inside near the captainâs cabin. My skin turns to burn very easily when itâs fully exposed to the sun so you best believe that I was putting plenty of sunscreen on the back of my neck, face, arms, thighs and shins. But for the most part, it was pretty relaxing and informative learning about the geography of the Gippsland Lakes. https://www.victorianplaces.com.au/gippsland-lakes
On Thursday morning, we went down to Lakes Squash and Movie Theatre and saw the movie Instant Family. Itâs only a single regularly sized movie theatre but it does have air conditioning and less advertisements that a typical cinema does. This comedy drama directed by Sean Anders focuses on the issues of the fostering and adoption agency as well as the trials and tribulations involved with becoming foster parents. *START OF SPOILERS*
Couple Ellie (Rose Byrne) and Pete (Mark Wahlberg) spend most of the lives renovating houses. They are constantly egged on by Ellieâs sister Kim (Allyn Rachel) and brother in law Russ (Tom Segura) and get labelled as being perfectionists. That is until Ellie wonders about the idea of having kids. One night, Ellie spends time on the internet searching for child adoption and fostering and eventually convinces Pete that they should attend an information session about it.
There they meet social workers Karen (Octavia Spencer) and Sharon (Tig Notaro) who give them a âno bullshitâ run down of the process involved in adopting and fostering a child. At the Open Day, Pete and Ellie really struggled to find the âright childâ for them and against all odds, find a connection with a young teenage girl named Lizzie (Isabela Moner). But theyâre in for an unexpected surprise as she comes along with younger brother Juan (Gustavo Quiro) and younger sister Lita (Julianna Gamiz).
The family are initially really reluctant and judgemental when Ellie and Pete deliver the news about adopting three children but they are adamant to prove them wrong. Through various support group meetings and several accidents, temper tantrums and outbursts of anger, the couple eventually work out that parenting is not as easy as it seems on the surface. The fact that itâs also a blended family with mixed nationalities makes things difficult, forcing them to learn Spanish.
Lizzie is very outspoken, dominating and impulsive. She is the oldest and at 10 years old, was forced to step up as a maternal role model to her younger siblings when her own mother was absent and abusing drugs. Juan is very shy, reserved and anxious. He doesnât think before he acts and often gets into lots of accidents. He places the blame on himself a lot. And Lita is the youngest child. Very loud, bratty and misbehaves a lot but is also easily excited and demands lots of attention.
To add a further complication to the mix, their biological mother gets released from prison and then it becomes a family court issue as to whether the kids continue living with Ellie and Pete or are forced back into custody with their mom. This is a well written and directed family film that strikes the right balance between humourous and emotional moments, even touching on a few political issues like gay couples and their legal rights. *END OF SPOILERS* https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7401588/?ref_=nv_sr_1
I spent some of Thursday night watching the Australian Open Menâs semi-finals match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Rafael Nadal. Whilst it was a fairly easy win for Nadal winning in straight sets, I was still very proud of Tsitsipasâ efforts during this match and his overall performance throughout the tournament. Itâs sad that Tsitsipas was really hard on himself after the loss to Nadal but I believe that he will bounce back from this. https://wwos.nine.com.au/videos/tennis/tsitsipas-dumbfounded-after-nadal-thrashing/cjramhpy2001t0hrptyhb63xv
Stefanos Tsitsipas is an extremely humble, down to earth young talented tennis player. I honestly wish that we had more Australian tennis players like him. The only ones who hold a candle are Ash Barty and Alex De Minaur. It's good to see that he doesn't let his ego, level of fame and attention from the media destroy his sense of self unlike players like Serena Williams and Nick Kyrogios who act like spoiled, self centered brats! I can see a big future ahead for Tsitsipas!
On Friday morning, we decided to have breakfast at The Barn at Kalimna - Cafe 4.9. It was predicted to be a scorching 44 degrees in Melbourne today with hot gusty winds and a total fire ban throughout the state. It was already rising up to 33 degrees by mid-morning and so I could only stand in the direct sun for a few minutes before it really got to me physically. As Iâve said before, I really donât cope well in extreme heat but luckily a cool change is on the way this afternoon which should bring the temperature down to the mid-20âs again. https://www.9news.com.au/national/2019/01/25/05/50/victoria-sizzles-as-it-waits-for-an-afternoon-reprieve-as-heat-scorches-most-of-the-country
On Friday night, I went to my HIIT + Circuit small group fitness class at CinFull Fitness. Due to the extreme heat today, I could sense that most peopleâs moods were pretty low and just feeling physically drained. Thankfully it was only around 26 degrees tonight and Cinamon decided to make it a low intensity circuit. We did 3 rounds of 45 seconds each exercise plus 5 overhead med ball squats.
First we worked on the lower body: Dumbbell Lunge pulses (10 each leg), Dumbbell hip thrusts, Lifted Heel Power Lifts. Then we worked on the upper body: Dumbbell flies and Dumbbell overhead presses, T-Bar Rows, Bench Presses and Bicep Curls. T-Bar Rows are something that I havenât done before and it was a little awkward and confusing to do at first but eventually I got it.
Lastly, we did a short core workout which involved V-Ups, Med Ball Sit-ups, Bicycle Crunches, Scissor Leg Crunches and a Plank Hold. We were all in hysterical laughter by the end of it mostly because of how ridiculous these movements looked and how much we all secretly hate doing core workouts. But itâs also what makes going to these classes a lot of fun.

New Post has been published on http://www.lifehacker.guru/unusual-christmas-tradition-every-state/
The most unusual Christmas tradition in every state
Christmas traditions vary depending on weather, culture, or location.
Minnesota has a large population of Scandinavian people, so they celebrate with lutefisk, a traditional Nordic food.
In New Mexico, wreaths are often made up of dried chiles.
Christmas is celebrated very differently throughout the world. And in a country as large as the United States, itâs no surprise that every state adds their own individual spin to the holiday.
No matter what state youâre in, you can be guaranteed to find a special holiday celebration happening in December, whether itâs a Santa Claus race in Reno, Nevada, or a Christmas tree made of beer kegs in Rochester, New York.
Keep scrolling to see the most unique holiday celebration in every state.
In Alabama, Mobile residents try to break the world record for most elves in one place in âElfapalooza.â

In Mobile, Alabama, thousands of people dress up in pointy ears to join one of the largest congregations of elves in the world: Elfapalooza!
Elfapalooza is currently second to a festive congregation in Bangkok, Thailand, which holds the world record of most elves in one place, but every year Mobile tries to take their spot.

The Russian Orthodox tradition of selaviq, also known as starring, is celebrated in Alaska.
In the days leading up to Russian Christmas on January 7, parishioners parade from house to house carrying a wooden star, which represents the star of Bethlehem. At each house, the size of the group increases as the residents of that house join the party.
At the end of the trek, there are food, gifts, and hymns sung to celebrate the culmination of the Three Wise Menâs journey.
Chandler, Arizona, is home to the worldâs largest tumbleweed Christmas tree.

One of the most popular tourist attractions during the holiday season in Arizona is the giant tumbleweed tree in Chandler, Arizona.
Workers begin to assemble this dry tannenbaum in September until it is lit for the Christmas season. The tradition of lighting a tumbleweed âtreeâ goes back 60 years in Chandler.
In Arkansas, people follow the Trail of Holiday Lights from one end of the state to the other.

Ostentatious Christmas lights displays may have caught on in all four corners of the globe, but in Arizona, each of the stateâs holiday light displays is connected on a giant âtrailâ that covers the whole state.
The Trail of Holiday Lights is mapped so that you can easily drive from one awe-inspiring display to another.

Las Posadas, or âThe Inns,â is a Mexican Christmas tradition, during which people of all ages gather to re-enact the story of Christmas â specifically the journey of Mary and Joseph from inn to inn searching for a place to stay before Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ.
In Colorado, the Tesoro Cultural Center leads a procession of children dressed as Mary and Joseph, as well as shepherds and angels, to travel from house to house asking for shelter. At the end of the re-enactment, there is a celebration with hot chocolate and sweets for children.
Christmas gets spooky in Connecticut with the lantern light tours in Mystic Seaport.

Every December in Mystic Seaport, actors put on an interactive play thatâs set around Christmas Eve.
This year, the lantern-lit tour of the Mystic Seaport museum is called âThe Spirit of the Holiday: A Christmas Ghost Story,â which culminates in a visit from St. Nicholas.
In Delaware, children leave out milk for the mischievous Tomte spirits on Christmas Eve.

For Delawareâs Swedish population, Christmas is associated with a visit from Tomte, the devilish imp who leaves gifts for good children.
According to the legend, tomten were mischievous and vengeful creatures who guarded farmsteads, but today they are regarded as benevolent Santa Claus or St. Nicholas-like figures.

Unless you live in Atlanta, you likely have never seen the pink pig train that comes to Macyâs Lenox Square every holiday season. The pink pig tradition began in 1953 at Richâs downtown store, and has become a holiday mainstay for Georgia residents who recognize it as a unique staple of the holiday season.
Children can take photos with Priscilla the Pig, climb aboard, and, of course, purchase pink pig merchandise.
In Hawaii, a pig roast over an open fire is the most delicious part of Christmas dinner.

In Hawaii, celebrating Christmas with a hula that ends in an epic pig roast over an open fire is a tradition that dates back to the first Christmas in Hawaii. Celebrated in 1786, a merchant ship docked off the shores of Hawaii during Christmas sent a search party ashore who hunted a pig, killed it, and roasted it.
Later, they are said to have participated in a gift swap with the islandâs natives, when a local chieftain sailed out to the docked ship and gifted them with a roasted pig.
The tradition, which resembles the American Thanksgiving story, continues todaywith a roast pig on almost every Hawaiian table on Christmas.

Lindsborg is widely known as the Swedish capital of Kansas, so itâs no wonder that the community throws an impressive St. Lucia Day festival every year.

Fruitcake is known around the world as the laughingstock of Christmas culinary traditions. But in Kentucky, youâd be lucky to get your hands on the famous fruitcake made by monks of the Abbey of Gethsemani.
Also known as Twelfth Night cake, this fruitcake made with dried fruits, nuts, and spices, which is often soaked in bourbon (after all, this is Kentucky), is a popular Christmas delicacy.

Christmas Eve bonfires on the levees are a holiday tradition synonymous with Creole culture.
Every Christmas Eve, locals burn log structures that stand up to an impressive 30 feet. Most are built as traditional teepees (like the one pictured above), but some depict shapes like houses and ships.
In Maine, no Christmas dinner is complete without seafood chowder.

Over two decades ago, in Baltimore, Maryland, a man living on 34th Street placed a string of Christmas lights in the tree in his front yard. Soon, his neighbors mimicked his tradition.
Now, more than 25 years later, the humble Baltimore block is transformed every year into a decorative spectacle known as the âMiracle on 34th Street.â Every house participates in the annual lighting tradition that draws visitors from all over the country.
Stockbridge is the Christmas capital of Massachusetts â as made famous by Norman Rockwellâs paintings.

Not many people know that the nostalgic paintings created by the popular artist Norman Rockwell actually depicted a real place, and not just small town Americana from his imagination. That place â Norman Rockwellâs hometown â is Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
Stockbridge Main Street goes all out every year in December to recreate the idyllic New England setting with parades, caroling, and holiday concerts.

Minnesota residents always serve lutefisk on Christmas, whether they love it or hate it.

Lutefisk dinners began as a Nordic holiday tradition, and are now part of a quintessential Christmas dinner for Minnesotans across the state, regardless of their ethnic background.
Lutefisk is a dried white fish soaked in water for several days and treated with lye. The dish has a Jell-O-like consistency, and is reminiscent of gefiltefish served during Jewish Passover. It has become popular in the Twin Cities region due to the large population of immigrants from Scandinavia.

Instead of just decorating houses, Mississippi residents look forward to the decked-out boats that take part in the Biloxi Beach Water Boat Parade. Boaters decorate their vessels to the nines, and the show culminates in a stunning fireworks display.
In Missouri, kids are just as excited to meet the Fairy Princess as they are to see Santa.

If you live outside the Twin Cities, you probably have no idea who the Fairy Princess is. But for local kids, the Fairy Princess is a holiday icon. Young local women dress up in crowns and royal regalia to meet with children. Each child who meets a Fairy Princess gets a toy that comes out of a secret treasure chest.
The Fairy Princess was a tradition started by Klineâs Department Store in 1936. The Klines came up with the idea because they were Jewish and did not wish to hire a Santa Claus. Thus, the non-denominational (and sparkly) figure was born.
December in Montana is about athletic endurance during the Bozeman Ice Climbing Festival.

In New Mexico, âristras,â a type of red pepper, are hung up as decoration.

They donât have white Christmases in New Mexico, so it makes sense theyâd decorate with something a little spicier, which is why dried peppers are often strung across homes, or turned into wreaths. The peppers are said to bring health and good luck.
