once again, congratulations on 1k, I'm so happy for you homie :)
I have a request: X 🧜🏻♂️🥵 and I'll leave the 4th option up to you
Listen, if this is your attempt at getting me to write porn involving Steve’s fishy parts ... you've succeeded. Happy mermay! 🧜♂️
Full of surprises

Words: 999

Notes: Shoutout to that one nonny who asked me if Eddie was gonna fuck the merussy in Just add water. (I opened that ask in a work meeting. I've never been so proud of my poker face.) Well, he never got to in the original story. We're fixing this now.
To say that Eddie's utterly obsessed with his boyfriend would be an understatement.
What's not to love? Steve is sweet, handsome, has a delightfully snarky sense of humor, and he drives Eddie absolutely fucking insane.
What he loves most of all, Eddie thinks, while Steve presses sun-warmed lips to his wet skin, chasing the droplets on his throat and chest with kisses, is that Steve’s just as head over heels for him.
Even though head over tail fin might be more correct just now.
It started out as just another summer night by the lake. Only the two of them, surrounded by a myriad of twinkling candles (that's another thing about Steve, he's a hopeless sap). As often, their romantic date soon escalated into mock-bickering and a heated wrestling-slash-makeout session. At least they remembered to take off their clothes before they went tumbling into the water. Steve has lost one too many pairs of pants to their spontaneous forays into the lake.
Steve's legs last just long enough to launch himself at Eddie in a flying tackle, and then they both go down in a flurry of water and flailing limbs and glistening scales.
They end up in the shallow water, hidden by the onset of darkness and the low-hanging branches of the trees.
They've never done this before, Eddie realizes as he slips his tongue past Steve's lips, drawing the first moans from them. Not like this. Sure, he has taken his sweet time mapping Steve's body with his lips and hands, has familiarized himself with the feel of golden skin and shiny scales, the lines where the two melt into each other. Has stroked his fingers from the base of those magnificent fins all the way to their edges and reveled in the sighs and shudders it gets him.
But they’ve never done it in the water before. Steve has always made sure to get them back to land, where they could wait until his legs returned - naked and still glistening from the water, and beautifully eager to part under Eddie’s touch.
Today, Steve seems to have no such plans, if the way he wraps his fins around Eddie’s legs to draw him closer is anything to go by. Or the way his hands stray deeper.
“W-wait,” Eddie manages to say, “Don't you wanna-”
Steve does not wanna, evidently, because he lets out a growl, cupping Eddie’s naked ass in a deliciously firm hold and slotting their bodies together in the water. A while ago, when he first learned about Steve’s fishy little secret, Eddie would’ve probably freaked out now - unsure what to do with the foreign shape of the tail slipping between his naked thighs, where to put his hands.
Now though, he traces the shape of Steve’s fins with his thumbs and licks his way back into that warm, wet mouth, drinking down the answering moan it gets him. Steve sucks on his tongue and rolls his hips - one long, powerful ripple of those incredible muscles. Eddie meets him halfway, pleasure pooling warm and tight in his belly, and grinds himself down on the tail, half-hard against Steve’s body already-
-and then he stops.
“Hold on a sec,” he mutters. “What's this?”
Because there's … something on Steve's tail he didn’t notice before. The slightest of dips where there should be only smooth scales, right where his cock would be if he was human-shaped. It’s kind of difficult to make out in the water and the hazy candlelight, and what can Eddie say? Impulse control is hard for him. Of course he needs to reach out and touch.
Steve makes a punched-out sound and jerks so hard Eddie almost topples off him.
“Careful,” he hisses. “It's sensitive.”
“It's sensitive?” Eddie parrots, still unable to take his hand off the spot. He goes gentler, though, pressing down on it slightly. His fingers slip inside, and he gasps in surprise at the slick, tight heat that engulfs them. Steve gasps, too, but not from surprise. “What is it?”
Steve scowls at him - or tries to. He has flushed a dark, delicious shade of pink and his eyes are glassy. His breath is coming in ragged little puffs. He is, Eddie realizes, almost painfully aroused. The thought makes something warm and urgent tingle in his own blood.
“What do you think it is?” Steve retaliates, even as his hips twitch and his fins flutter excitedly. “Did you think I was, like, sex-less when I'm like this or what? I told you I had … parts, they're just a bit different.”
“Well, excuse me,” Eddie blurts. His flush is trying to compete with Steve's now. “I like your other parts just fine, so I never really put a lot of thought into it.”
Somewhere around the middle of his frantic string of words, Steve's expression shifts.
“Oh?” he hums, and rolls his hips again, taking Eddie’s fingers deeper. Eddie can feel how he clenches around them, and his cock gives a needy little throb in response. “Any thoughts now?”
“Many,” he rasps, “So many thoughts, none of them sex-less.”
He curls his fingers experimentally, and Steve makes a noise he's never heard from him before. Primal and desperate and positively wrecked. Eddie’s mouth twitches into a sly smile of his own.
“Why, fish boy,” he purrs against Steve’s lips, starting to slowly pump his fingers in and out. “You've never done this before, have you?”
Steve whines and shudders under his touch, nails digging into Eddie’s shoulders.
“Of course not, what d’you think? You're the first I've ever- Shit, there's only you, Eds. Only you.”
And damn, how's a guy supposed to stay calm in the face of that confession?
“Well then,” he murmurs, brushing back Steve's hair so that he can kiss the tiny patch of scales on his temple. “I guess we're both in for some interesting discoveries.”
That's another great thing about having Steve Harrington for a boyfriend. He never stops surprising you.

Want to Go Home With You (Bring Me a Home)
Rating: Teen and Up (May Change With Future Chapters) CW: None, at least for now Tags: Alternate Universe - Mermaids, Hurt/Comfort, Dialogue Heavy, Took Canon Out Back And Pulled an Old Yeller, Mer!Steve Harrington, Fisherman!Eddie Munson, Soft Steve Harrington, Confused Steve Harrington, Steve Harrington is a Sweetheart, Eddie Munson is a Sweetheart, Steve Harrington Wants to be Loved, Mermaids with Animal Like Instincts, Future Propositioning, Lowkey Might Involve Some Omegaverse Aspects in the Future (Not Sorry)
This is chapter one of ????. Also this takes place in Oregon because that's what I know and the idea of a merman living in an Indiana lake-beach is odd to me. So...bear with me. This is my first like actual alternate universe, completely separate from Stranger Things, so be nice.
Also, I've written Steve here as a merman who's had no contacts with humans—his English is choppy and his understanding of basic human communication is weird. If that's a turn-off for you, turn back now.

Can also be read on AO3
🧜♂️—————🧜♂️ Fishing wasn’t the ideal career to be going into after high school, but Eddie had to do something while he waited for his dreams to kickstart. Granted, going into this business was easy because his uncle owned the local bait shack. But it didn’t make the job any more appealing in the end. Not even the many beaches he had the chance to truck out to. There was Cannon Beach and Seaside’s, but he stayed close to home in Newport’s.
The beach wasn’t anything super spectacular. Sure, there were parts of it inhabited by the native seal population, some of the areas overloaded with crab shells. And it was damn near majestic during the summertime. Eddie, however, didn’t see the gist of spending time there, though. Maybe it had to do with how every single one of his work days would go, the hours spent sitting in the serene stretches of water. But nothing was intriguing or worthwhile about spending his time there.
That is, until one particular early summer day.
June isn’t a busy summer month for Eddie and his uncle. It was the right temperature, but there was still the risk of storms. Heavy duty kind of storms. Business didn’t stop, though. He woke up at 5:30am, when the sun was still acclimating to the baby blue sky, and readied himself in coveralls, thick and tall rubber boots, and a bucket hat that protected his lopsided mop of curls. His hair remained back in a bun and his skin was doused with paste-like sunscreen. In one hand he carried a red fishing rod and in the other, an old black lunchbox transformed for tackle.
He went out to the docks. To the few run down boats. And climbed aboard his uncle’s tried and true, S.S. Lenore—a tiny thing, made for up to four people, overrun with nets and crusted muddy footprints, and equipped with a singular cooler. The engine always took a few pulls to start up, jostling and crunching like food run through a garbage disposal, but it did the trick. And then he was off.
Eddie always took the chance to float out for a handful of minutes. Sometimes fifteen. Sometimes ten. Set himself up stagnant in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nobody, with no chance in hell he’ll be interrupted. Today he just needed to get a cooler full of trout. Rainbow trout, to be more exact. They’re easy fish to gut and debone, good for baking in the oven, and stuffing full of herbs for marinated fish stew. He’d gone out previously to hoist in mackerels and herrings. This was the last trip he’d need to take for a good two weeks, but he was going to do a damn great amount of work for it.
“This should be good,” he mumbles to himself, just barely breeching the edge of his boat. The ocean underneath him moves in subtle pushes, rocking him lightly against itself. Its color is bright and shining—bluer, somehow, than the last time he visited just a few days ago. He can see schools of trout idling underneath the sheen of the water. And so he rigs one of his nets, tosses it over the side of his boat, and slowly sinks it into the water.
And he waits.
It isn’t until half past when he came out that the net begins to rustle. Tugging and splashing, but it doesn’t settle the way it does when it’s some regular trout. No, this threatens to topple Eddie straight into the cold depths of the water below. To sink his boat and turn it over of all its resources.
He grips to the ropes holding the damned thing up. Pulling at it hard enough to give him the starts of burns on his soft palms. And he heaves. Groaning with it. Panting unrelenting in the face of this thing trapped inside his net. Whatever he caught is surely not some common fish for his soup, this is something more—maybe even more dangerous. And he hadn’t thought to bring anything with him to ward off danger.
There had been one time where a shark got caught. Eddie happened to have a knife on him that time. He gave in, cut the ropes on the net, and let it free—which cost him the equipment, but luckily saved his life.
This is a time where having that knife would be spectacular. But as he hefts the net, he realizes that this creature caught is no ordinary thing. It’s not a shark. Not a seal. Not a school of fish. However, through the floundering waves around him, he catches on a fish-esque glimmer. Scales of some sort shifting with the catch of light breaking through.
He wrestles with the net for a few minutes more before eventually getting a good enough grasp to tie it down. Pulling up the rest with his hands, he’s met face to…tail with this creature. It has scales—pearl white and baby pink and pastel yellows—they shine iridescent in the high rise of sunlight. The end of the tail sports two fins, both of them crescent shaped, thicker towards the base of the tail, and spindly where it faces Eddie. Before he can stop himself, he’s poking at the scales, where they taper into absence at the creature’s fins. It’s then that the creature really notices him.
In one fell motion, grand and heaving, the boat rocks. Teetering into flipping. The creature turns its head to him and…hisses. Like the guttural bubbling hiss of a harbor seal. It rocks in the net again, as it lunges towards Eddie.
Immediately, Eddie pulls his hands away and steps as far back as the boat will allow him. Granted, it’s only four feet in width, but that puts space between him and this thing. The thing that he calculates slowly with his eyes. Tail—yeah, he already knew about that. But then he rakes up to the torso of the fish like creature, where his tail is ombre with the glistening, golden skin of a nude torso.
“That—That isn’t right,” Eddie finds himself stuttering, surveying the torso once again. Sure enough, there’s skin. Dotted with moles and freckles. Dark brunette chest hair that could almost be mistaken as black. Toned arms and big, veiny hands. At the ends of this creature’s fingertips are short, curved towards the palms, white claws. Gills where its ribs are. And then Eddie goes to its head. Square-ish jaw, more freckles and moles, smile lines and baby crows feet. Thick eyebrows, triangular nose with a bridge that angles slightly to the left. Ears that threaten to point at the tops. Brunette hair that swoops to the right, falls to its collarbones, wavy and stringy with saltwater.
And its eyes.
Human eyes. Hazel, glowing honey in the sun. Long eyelashes. Drooping eyelids. Pupils that are pinpoint small, dilating with every hiss that leaves the creature’s throat.
A mermaid.
Eddie Munson is looking at a fucking mermaid.
Or…merman? It doesn’t have the seashell bra like all the mermaids he’s heard tales about, but maybe that’s just fable. He’s played all kinds of fantasy games, but he never thought what he described would be looking at him. Wild eyes and baby shark-like teeth, though without the second row. Hissing.
It struggles in the net again, lunging. Wrapping its hands on the edge of Eddie’s boat, squeezing at the metal material. The force of this merman’s grip enough to cause the edge to creak. Eddie’s stomach drops.
“Woah! Alright, okay!” He exclaims, hands up and placating. Briefly, he wonders if it has a good sense of smell and hearing. Like it can scent the excretion of his sweat even in the cold air. Or how his heart beats like the galloping of a race horse. “Easy! I ain’t—I’ve got no reason to hurt you!”
It seems to know what he’s saying, as it relaxes in the net for the first time. But it shoots him a pitiful, pleading look. Petulantly whining at him, though the sound is gargled.
Eddie wipes his sweating palms on his coveralls and takes a tentative step forward. “Easy,” he murmurs, “I’ll free you, but you have to stay calm.”
But the merman shakes its head. “No,” it croaks, “No free.”
Okay, so the guy speaks. It knows English. Even as choppy and awkward as it sounds.
“No free?” Eddie questions, “You don’t want me to free you?”
It shakes its head again. Whines, gargling again in the back of its throat. Its hands grip to the boat again, this time lugging some of its weight. As if it’s trying to…climb in.
Eddie startles back once more. “Hey, no,” he barks, “no climbing in. You can’t come onto my boat.” Though he wants to take it all back the moment he locks eyes again. If it didn’t have scales and gills, Eddie would almost think it was a sad puppy hybrid. He can almost imagine the droopy tail paired with the glistening, fearful, and pleading eyes. “Why shouldn’t I free you? My boat isn’t your home and I can’t take you back with me. You belong in the water.”
“Home,” the merman echoes, croaking. “Your home…warm?”
“Uh—“ What the fuck, he can’t help but think, exasperated. “—uh, sure. Home is warm. My, uh, home is warm. I live by the sand with my uncle, selling worms and cooking fish. The sun hits my skin every morning.” He doesn’t know why he’s answering the guy, but something in its stare, the broken words—Eddie’s allured. “Can you please answer my question? I’d like to go home. So, why shouldn’t I free you?”
The merman points a clawed finger at itself. “My home not warm. Cold.” Eddie nods along because—of course, duh, the ocean is cold. But it murmurs, “Love.” And now Eddie’s confused all over again.
“Love?”
Its voice is soft and sweet, curious. “You have love?”
Eddie shouldn’t be indulging this. He shouldn’t. But maybe the merman is a siren with how he’s drawn to answer. “I don’t have a partner, if that’s what you’re asking. But my uncle loves me. And I love him. That’s—I have love like that.”
It nods like it understands. Looks away over its shoulder, to the cold, salty water. And visibly shudders before facing Eddie again. “No love,” it says, pointing at itself again. “I no have love. No warm.” It tries to climb in again, even as Eddie’s moving to pry its hands away, but it holds tight and hisses again. “Want warm. Go with. Want to go. Go now,” it demands in a low timber.
And even as pretty as this merman is, Eddie has to refuse. He shakes his head softly. Gently, he says, “You can’t. I—I don’t know you. And…I don’t have an ocean in my house. You’ll die if you come with me.”
“Steven,” it mutters.
What? “What.”
“Know me—Steven,” it says. “Know you? Name?”
Tentatively, Eddie relaxes again. Realizes that this won’t be an end all conversation. “My name is Eddie. It’s short for Edward,” he answers, “but I like Eddie more.”
It hums, observing. “Eh-die,” it sounds out. “Eddie,” it whispers. Without warning, it trills at him. High pitched, chirping and bubbling from the back of its throat. Smiling with the sound, squinting its pretty honey eyes. Something in Eddie stirs. “Like that,” it chirps. “Short and easy. I want.”
“You want a short and easy name, too?” Eddie clarifies. It nods at him, squeaking an affirmative thing. “How about…Hm, what’s a good name for Steven?” He ponders as the merman continues to look on at him, eyes bright and curious. “How about Steve? Is that good enough for you?”
“Steve!” It crows. Trilling again, higher pitched than the last, squirming again in the net, closer and closer to heaving itself into the boat. “Easy, easy, easy,” it says at him.
Eddie can’t help but chuckle. “So…Steve, am I able to call you a he? Like…His name is Steve?”
He nods at Eddie. Wriggling again as if he can’t contain his excitement.
“Well, now I know you, huh? It’s a shame I still can’t take you to my home.”
And now Steve frowns, eyes saddening again. “But…My home is cold. You have warm,” he says solemnly.
“I know,” Eddie murmurs, “but I don’t have space for you, Steve. Your home is in the water. If I take you out of the water for too long, you’ll die. You need the water.”
“I will see you again?”
Eddie shrugs. “If you see my boat again, you can visit me. How about that? And…what’s special about that, is that I can bring you things that aren’t in the ocean.”
“Man’s stuff?”
Befuddled, Eddie asks, “What are man’s stuff?”
“Stuff I see from up here. From Eddie’s home,” Steve answers. “I find and I keep and I hide. Nobody knows. Just Eddie. Eddie is nice, though. You make me happy.”
Humming, Eddie assesses Steve again. Smiles softly. “You’re nice, too, Steve. Even though you scared me earlier. But you were scared, too, huh? Caught in my stupid net.” He takes a careful step closer, standing over where Steve rests in the net still. He places a hand on one of Steve’s, tentatively, but purposefully. “But if you see my boat again, you can come visit. Maybe next time I’ll bring some fish soup? Do you eat fish?”
“Fish are tasty,” Steve says as a response.
Eddie chuckles again. “Okay, Steve. I’ll bring you fish soup. Tomorrow, though. I have to free you and go home, okay?” He reaches down for the ropes that he tied down earlier. Tugs on one of the knots and frees one side. Steve yelps.
“Promise you come back?” Steve meekly asks.
“Promise,” Eddie murmurs intensely, unraveling the last of the rope. “Look for Lenore. She’ll bring you back to me.”

Day 8 of Gaunting Salloween - merfolk
❝ The boy’s eyes tugged at Sebastian, compelling him to examine him more closely. His lips were untainted by the lake’s chill, deep berry-pink, and his hair flowed like a soft, golden cascade. Gills fluttered on his neck with each breath. “You are so… very pretty…” The sky, his village, and the boat faded black, leaving only twin fires of blue. “Sebastian…❞

Merman Joseph taking Y/N to meet the rest of the mer pod, comprised of Suzi, Caesar, Smokey and Lisa Lisa. "They've never met a human before! They'll be thrilled!"
Dude I really need you start signing yourself as the 🧜♂️ anon or something- these ideas are giving me life-
He dragged you along behind him- well- he swam in front of your boat quickly, leading you back to where his supposed ‘friends’ were.
He had said that they had never seen a human before, which made you nervous. What if they thought you were hostile? What would you do then?? It’s not like you could fight against multiple merfolk-
You were led into a grotto that, to your surprise, was neat and well kept. Beautiful flowers decorated the grounds around you, and a glorious lake came into your view.
“Joseph, are you sure that your buddies will like me?” You asked as he pulled your boat to the side, looking up at you with a grin.
“Yes yes yes!” He nodded aggressively, and some of his friends began to surface. “I told them you were coming!”
One by one, they began to appear, and you couldn’t help but grow anxious. It seemed like they were all wary of you, as they were keeping their distance, staying clear of your boat.
“This is Caesar, Suzi, and Smokey!” He paused, looking around for a moment. “Wait… where’s-“
Just then, a beautiful mermaid jumped out of the waters, her long brown hair draped over her body in a way that emphasized her beauty. Just who was she..?
“Oh.” He deadpanned and rolled his eyes. “That’s my mother.”

Nate saw that emoji and hopped up like I WANA BE A MERMAN so I guess that’s what we’re going with XD
He meditates/dissociates/maladaptive daydreams of sinking to the bottom of a lake. It helps him focus and slows his breaths. So being in water sounds lovely to him.

“Okay, not to sound ungrateful,” Eddie mutters, huddling deeper into his flannel. Summer is well and truly over and the nights are getting chilly, especially out here on the water. “I appreciate this whole three-month anniversary surprise date, I really do. But couldn’t you have gone for dinner and a movie perhaps?”
“Nah,” Steve smiles. He stops rowing, pulling the oars into the boat and leaving them floating on the surface of the moonlit lake. “It had to be here. This is where I fell for you, where we first kissed. First made love. C’mon, where’s your sense of adventure?”
“Back at the shore, probably.” Eddie pretends to shiver, even though his face has gone hot at Steve’s casual mention of their first time. “Where all of that stuff actually happened, by the way, so I still don’t get why you needed to row us out here. Now where’s that surprise you promised me?”
“Patience,” Steve scolds, leaning closer on the rickety bench so that he can press a kiss to Eddie’s lips. “I'm getting there.”
Then, without further preamble, he starts stripping.
“What the-” Eddie blurts as Steve’s sweater hits him in the face. “No way, forget it. We're not fucking in the middle of the-”
“Get your mind out of the gutter, who said anything about fucking?” Steve rolls his eyes, shrugging out of his jeans and underpants. “We’re going for a swim.”
And then, before Eddie has a chance to stop him, he dives headfirst into the dark lake. Eddie yelps and clenches his eyes shut as the boat rocks. When he opens them, Steve is just emerging again. He laughs and shakes the water from his hair, happy like a fish in the water, which … okay, yeah. That's actually an apt comparison, considering the giant, glistening tail and the fucking fins that have taken the place of his legs.
You'd think that after three months, a guy would get used to his boyfriend being a real-life mermaid. No such luck, apparently, because Eddie still finds himself as dumbstruck as the first time as Steve swims closer and casually rests his arms on the edge of the boat. The patch of scales on his temples shimmers in the pale light.
“Not coming in?”
Eddie grins, trying to ignore the way his heart hammers against his ribcage.
“Nuh-uh, fish boy. Don't wanna freeze to death. You have fun, I'll take care of the food.”
He has just bent over to retrieve the huge picnic basket from the hull of the boat when Steve says, “Oh, you thought that was for you?”
Eddie whips his head up, mouth already open around a question- … which turns into a garbled half-scream when he sees what has appeared beside Steve.
A gleaming pair of eyes, each roughly the size of a saucer.
Eddie blinks. The eyes blink back. There's two pairs of lids on each, the inner one a thin, translucent membrane.
“She's been dying to meet you,” Steve smiles. “Say hi?”
“Hrrrrrrgh,” Eddie says.
The creature makes a sound - a long, high-pitched trill. Steve chimes in with a laugh of his own, and wait, do they think this is funny?
Steve sees the scowl on his face and tilts his head. “C’mon, Eds, don't be like that. You've seen her before.”
“Yeah, from a distance,” Eddie squeaks, finally finding his voice again. “Not like this. Jeez, warn a guy! What happened to meeting the family first?”
The creature makes an affronted sound and Steve pets her large, arrow-shaped head.
“Of course you are family, he's just a bit confused,” he tells her. She grumbles and he turns to Eddie with a chuckle. “Uh-oh, you'd better apologize.”
Eddie stares. Steve’s eyes flick down to the picnic basket.
“Ugh, alright,” Eddie mutters. He reaches down to flip the lid open, steeling himself for the sight of slimy fish heads, only to be met with… “Fruit? She eats fruit?”
Steve shrugs. “She's an ombi- … obvy- … she eats everything, really. Oh, give her the watermelon, she loves those.”
Eddie obeys, because why wouldn't he? If your mermaid boyfriend tells you to feed the friendly lake monster a watermelon, you feed the lake monster the goddamn watermelon. It's only logical.
The melon is about as large as his head. He lifts it, and a long neck comes curling out of the water, until those eerie eyes are level with his - and then higher still, so he's looking up at them. It's a weird feeling, being face to face with this creature who's so much older than him - older than the lake itself, maybe - holding out the fruit to her like an offering. Awe, he realizes. He's feeling awed in the truest and most original sense of the word.
And then she bends down and plucks the melon from his hands. Something crunches and Eddie shrieks in surprise and disgust as a shower of juice and seeds descends on him. The creature swallows, blinks her glowing, double-lidded eyes at him one last time, and then she's gone, slipping back under the surface of the lake with barely a ripple.
“Huh,” Eddie exhales a shaky laugh. “That went pretty-”
The world tilts.
His scream turns into a wet gargle as he hits the water, but Steve has him under the arms and is pulling him up to straddle his tail before he can go under. He sees Eddie’s shocked face and laughs, gently combing dark strands soaked in lake water and melon juice out of his face.
“That went fantastically,” he says, grin wide and brilliant and incredibly proud. It makes Eddie’s heart kick in his chest, just a little. “She really likes you!”
Eddie spits out a mouthful of water.
“What, really? Is it just her or do all of your family members have such an odd way of showing it?”
Steve hums, a bit nervously perhaps, and pulls Eddie's shivering body closer to his chest.
“Well, wait until you meet my mom.”

SPECIES INFO: Merfolk.
🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️
INFO: Merfolk were originally humans a very very long time ago. However after many many years of evolution they adapted to living completely under water. Well evolution and a bit of magic of course. Merfolk society is a utopia of sorts, free healthcare, no inflation and at least one of the royal families seems to genuinely care about the people.
Merfolk live all over the ocean, in the deepest parts of the sea to the coral reefs. They are known to be a little bit aggressive towards humans if provoked but otherwise they stay to themselves, sometimes curiously watching them from the sea. You cannot become a Merfolk, as you have to be born as one.
Merfolk have their own language and tend to speak via either sonar or through their own local language. They also communicate via song and dance, swimming in intricate patterns.
ANATOMY: Merfolk have completely adapted to live under water. While all merfolk are able to transform into human forms, their true forms tend to have gills, fins, and other fish and aquatic like qualities. Merfolk will often copy the appearance of fish and other sea creatures so they can blend in.
Some Merfolk have legs while others have traditional fish like tails. Some have a combination having legs and a fish like tail where their tail bone is.
Merfolk often times have patterns on their scales, unnatural hair colors and eyes, and tend to be chubby due to living in colder water. Merfolk who live in the deep sea tend to have sharper teeth and glowing features.
Merfolk are also usually carnivorous but some are omnivores eating seaweed and things like clams and sea urchins.
POWERS: Merfolk have the ability to communicate with sea animals, they also have the ability to hypnotize people with their singing, control water, shapeshifting, healing magic, being able to give humans and others the ability to breath underwater, etc.
Some Merfolk have extra abilities based on what sea creature they base themselves on. Some subsections of merfolk also have special abilities.
🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜🧜
STRENGTHS: Merfolk are strongest in the sea. They are incredibly fast swimmers and aren’t able to drown. Their hypnotic abilities are also incredibly strong, being able to take down ships with their voice. They are powerful hunters and can go toe to toe with humans and other such beings.
WEAKNESSES: A lot of Merfolk have never been on land before as they were born in lakes or the ocean. So when they get on land they are a lot weaker than they are in the water. Often times not being able to walk well.
Another one of their main weaknesses is dehydration. While they can live on land, they need to take baths in order to hydrate themselves. Sometimes drinking more water than an average human also works.
Merfolk will turn into their true form when exposed to water. For some versions of merfolk who have tails instead of legs this is a weakness as they will fall down and won’t be able to move on land.
Merfolk do not like mirrors. Bronze is also a weakness for Merfolk.
Selkies specifically their pelt is their main weakness. If their pelt is damaged they will die. If someone is in possession of a Selkie’s pelt has power over them.

SUBSECTIONS:
Mermaids: Mermaids are one of the most common type of merfolk. They are distinguished by their long fish tails and scales, usually having long hair decorated seashells and sea stars. Mermaids usually have appearances similar to fish, though occasionally they will also copy porpoises.
Ningyo are regional version of Mermaids from Japan.
Sirens: Sirens are a solely carnivorous form of Merfolk, they are considered the best predator out of the Merfolk and are great hunters. Sirens have legs with fins on the sides of their legs, back, arms, and head. They also have a lot more scales than most merfolk. They tend to have sharper teeth and stilted pupils. They tend to copy things such as shark, jellyfish, anglerfish and other predator sea species.
Selkies: Selkies are a unique type of Merfolk, who only copy seals, sea lions, and walruses. They have a strong connection with their pelts. They are one of the only merfolk to be able to fully turn into an aquatic creature. But without their pelt on (or if wearing their pelt like a piece of clothing.) they look fully human, except for occasionally some unnatural looking eyes or spots.
Umibozu: Umibozu come from the deep sea, they are shadowy and tend to copy deep sea creatures, octopi, eels, and catfish. They tend to be larger than most merfolk, and are predators. They tend to attack humans and are aggressive towards most creatures besides other merfolk.
Rusalka: Rusalka can appear in the ocean but also appear in swamps and lakes. They are a form of ghost merfolk, they tend to haunt areas weeping and crying. They tend to have long hair and moss or algae growing on them. They also have sea plants and flowers growing on them. They tend to copy things such as coral and bottom feeder animals.
