I happened to see your post about your mom playing BG3 and romancing Halsin and clicked on the tag for your mom versus video games. That sounds like so much fun and a great way to spend time together. I hope her surgery goes well and you two have lots of fun together. Please keep us updated on the games. 👍

It has been a lot of fun! I realized that we've been playing BG3 for more than 8 months at this point. Which makes sense. We play about an hour a week and I think we're at 36 hours into the campaign

I'm going to skip a LOT of act 3, focusing only on the companion quests and main question, so hopefully we can finish by the end of September

Then the plan after that is to play DA2! She already knows she wants to play a rogue Hawke. I'll be very curious to see how that goes (I'll be taking bets on who she romances lol)

But what's great is that she enjoys the story and it really makes her think in different ways. Which, when you're almost 80, is a very good thing!

When Kira tells the Council about being a Child of the Emperor, he wants to keep her on Tython, seeing her as a danger to others. He objects to Tol Braga’s plan to attempt to redeem the Emperor (I’m with him there, actually). On Corellia, when you contact the ‘First Son’, he reveals that they know the truth now when, personally, I think it’d have been smarter to keep that fact secret. That’s all I can remember right now. 

Also, when the JK returns from the Emperor’s fortress with Scourge, Kaedan threatens Scourge with his lightsaber, right there in the Council chambers. And he doesn’t trust the Voss way of teaching.

I have a question regarding the Erato call for submissions. I wrote something with characters from A Midsummer Night's Dream. Would I still have to change the character names and settings? I want to be sure, since it feels like Shakespeare is a bit of a gray area regarding fanfiction and the like.

Good question--Shakespeare is public domain, so this would absolutely be okay (and you are working in a hallowed tradition)!

In fact, stories based on any of the novels that entered public domain this year could also be okay!

I don’t know, to be honest! Everyone I know plays the female avatar, but I have asked fellow staff members on RPGFan to see if this is for all players.

I’m still not clear when this is set. I know the movies and swtor. Is this in between those?

It’s set in about 800 BBY. The events of SWTOR occur in the Old Republic era, roughly 3600 BBY and act therefore as a historical backdrop for this story. Meanwhile, the movies haven’t happened yet.

Really I’m not sure yet. Since I’ve only had ONE semester of college so far, I can only take general education classes right now anyway, so mine could apply to ANY liberal arts major really. I think I’ll eventually specify the major into something a little more directed, but right now I’m just taking all the classes they’ll allow me to take. 

I’ve been thinking teaching. But really at this point I have no idea.

Kira Carsen for the character ask meme.

How I feel about this character: One of the few aspects of the JK story I didn’t just enjoy but thought they REALLY nailed for the most part. At times she can come across as a very “video game character” type character - she’s snarky and an “action girl” sidekick/partner to the player character, but she also adds a lot more depth with her background, reaction to events as they occur and emotional give and take with the knight.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I’m still uncertain of where I’m going with it but my knight - Amitia - to some extent. She’d probably be a lot of fun with someone like Jonas Balkar, too.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Jedi Knight and Kira as BFFs for life - really good friendship arc for both characters.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Like with a lot of the female companions, I feel like she deserves more attention on Tumblr. On the other hand, you have other parts of the fandom that fixate on her being little more than snarky eye candy or whatever so… :/

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: She (and other companions) shouldn’t have been forced away from the player characters. And if they were dead set on that, she should have been back by now.

my het ship: I’d ship her mainly with a LS and respectful/understanding JK

my fem/slash ship: Female JK. One of several examples of where I rolled a male character just to get the romance I liked.

my OTP: Mainly platonic friendship with a f!JK but I’m flexible and still thinking through this one

my OT3: JK/JC/Kira if I had an OT3 for her, probably

my cross over ship: Maybe with one of the Solo boys from the old EU? Or the TV show version of Robb Stark, if you could make the whole Force powers and lightsaber thing fit.

a head cannon fact: I’m not sure if i have one unless you count my vaguely-hinted at but not really explored idea of her and a female JK falling for each other?

I feel like that’s a bit of a bad writing decision. Like I feel like the writers should have characters object or agree based on their own experiences or personalities, rather than “so and so always objects”. it might make the council members feel more unique from each other, too.

And yeah I  don’t really care for Jaric a ton either after hearing how he treats Kira but I did feel the need to defend abrasive characters as a concept :P Cuz lots of my faves are abrasive. though they should still object for reasons when they object.

Cool! *types it up, checks wordcount* WTF? For once I wrote TOO MUCH?

True story: I suggested 2,000 words as an upper limit because some of my own attempts at “flash fiction” were, I knew, closer to that than 1,000 words...when I actually checked the wordcounts of my stories, I saw they were over 2,000 words, too (2100-2300). 

Here’s hoping your story is also in that range and might be able to fit with a bit of diligent editing? Or...well, we do take excerpts from longer stories, too :D

Or try chopping out the first 500 words and see what you’ve got: I jest a little, but this can be a very useful tool to see if you really started your story (especially flash fiction) at the right moment, or a bit too early.

Pros and cons of dating Reili?

Pros:

Though she herself lives by a fairly strict code, she’s pretty easy going in general. She sees the best in people and believes in them with all her heart. She’ll have your back and cheer you on.

She's a great listener. If you need to vent or anything, she’d be happy to listen and try to help if you want.

Sleeps nude.

Being a Jedi holds a lot of sway, so if there’s anywhere you want to go- anything you want to see- she can probably get you there. At least in certain lands. Elsewhere, she’s clever and can find her way through just about any problem.

She’s the sort of cinnamon roll whose very existence tends to bring out the best in everyone. She’s loyal. Brave. Someone who laughs from her belly and doesn’t do anything halfway.

Cons:

Growing up in the Temple, she’s used to eating simple foods. Simple foods she didn’t make herself. So don’t expect her to cook or offer you anything beyond rations. Sure, she likes to go out to eat, but she doesn’t feel any drive to eat what most would call “good” food.

So yeah, that whole Jedi thing. It makes her pretty resistant to the idea of getting in a relationship in the first place and, if you manage to get something going, she’s got some commitment issues. The more she cares, the more she’ll feel like maybe she needs to push away.

I hope you like secret relationships, because she’s gonna want to keep things quiet. Very quiet. Please don’t get me kicked out of the Order quiet.

Has been known to have crushes on her boyfriend’s parents.

Can be deemed... preachy. She has a pretty set idea of what’s right and wrong, so expect her to try to win you over if you don’t see eye to eye.
