- nars radiant long wear foundation is my one true love i will never abandon it! also good to mix with other foundations (pat mcgrath, haus labs)

- danessa myricks cream blush (primadonna/golden hour) for pigment, saie liquid blush (spicy) for dewiness.

- nars laguna cream bronzer is pricy but a little goes a long way.

skincare

- summer fridays lip balm, smells good feels great. i like vanilla beige for no/light make up days

- kate somerville exfolikate exfoliating treatment is also pricy but i buy the mini and lasts me ages. usually use it the day before i have somewhere to be and my skin looks 10/10.

-cosrx snail mucin has a fan in me, always a part of my skincare routine now and v hydrating.

ooh let’s do it while i recover from the weekend and ease back into work lol. here’s a list of the products i use daily

elf hydro grip primer

sephora matte perfection lightweight tinted moisturizer in cashmere (this is going to be way too light for me in about three days since i’m getting tan and i’ll usually stop using foundation in the summer in general)

elf camo concealer

coulorpop eyebrow pencil (i’m literally obsessed with colourpop in general)

tarte surf curl mascara

mac brown eyeliner/urban decay eyeliner in alkaline or mildew (burgundy and dark green, respectively) -i rotate these three eyeliners depending on my mood

nars laguna bronzer

mac power blush from the stranger things collection in he likes it cold

ilia multi stick cream blush in beautiful

colorpop super shock eyeshadows in a variety of shades depending on my mood/outfit/the weather

colourpop freckle pen just to enhance the natural freckles a bit once i’ve put on foundation - this goes out the window when i’m tan and fully freckled lol

any random assortment of mac/nars/maybelline/colourpop lipsticks/lip stains - lately i’ve been doing a morphe clear gloss over a ysl lip stain that i found in my purse that’s definitely expired but i never throw anything out lol

also once we get into like mid-july/august and i’ve got a nice tan going literally all i wear is eyebrow pencil, mascara, and a blotted out swipe of mac’s russian red lipstick for a little color

lol typing all this out makes me seem so much more high maintenance than i actually am 😂

I’m fond of their Cloud Setting Powder, tinted brow gel, and lipsticks (Rosewater and Stardust). I hear their powder blush/bronzer are an excellent “clean” dupe for the NARS Orgasm/Laguna Beach blush and bronzer, but haven’t tried them myself.

I also have tried their sunbaked bronzer and while the shade was gorgeous it had too much shimmer for my liking (I don’t mind very subtle shimmer). YMMV. I gave it to my niece who has zero lines or pores on her face and she looks great 😂

My Current Lineup

My favorite tried and true items, as of March 2024.

Foundation: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Longwear Foundation in shade 210. What I like: silky smooth texture, applies beautifully with a kabuki brush, highly pigmented for coverage and minimal product use, luxurious finish.

Sadly my previous favorite foundation, the moonshot Micro CorrectFit Foundation, is likely being discontinued as I can no longer find it anywhere. I also have their Micro Settingfit Cushion EX. This is essentially that same liquid foundation product but pre-soaked in a cushion sponge inside a case, applied with an included silicone puff.

Why I love moonshot foundations: they provide superfine, buildable coverage, doesn’t cling onto texture on my skin. However I don’t like the cushion form factor as much - I find the puff hard to use as an applicator and would have preferred my own brushes. Also they have a very limited shade range and the shade that matches me is often out of stock.

Powder: CoverGirl Clean Pressed Powder - my very first powder product, tried and true as nothing else really compares. What I like: really fine powder, provides a nice, gentle and natural-looking matte coverage. Its quality feels like a whole class higher than its reality as a drug store brand. The powder also keeps pretty well and doesn’t cake up from being applied with liquid foundations.

Blush: e.l.f. Studio Blush in Candid Coral - one of the first blushes I ever tried and still my favorite after all the years. This particular color is subtle yet elegant, perfect for giving a more mature glow for my everyday work look.

Bronzer: NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna. Why I like it: luxurious-feeling bronzer with plenty of product for the price, buildable coverage, perfect for summer months to tone down the shade of my foundation. It also doubles as my nose contouring powder.

Eyeshadow: e.l.f. Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer Sheer - before I apply eyeshadow, I always apply this eyelid primer. It eliminates the eyelid crease and also makes the eyeshadow last a lot longer through any given night.

Currently I am using the IM’UNNY Multi Eye Shadow Palette in Simply Glam. I fell in love with IM’UNNY products after trying their mascara, and this eyeshadow palette is no exception. The colors are just so pretty and versatile. I can go from either a simple look to all glammed out for date night with just one palette.

Also of note: I have the limited edition MAC Maleficent Eyeshadow Quad and it shows just how high quality MAC products are. Their eyeshadow powders are fine yet very pigmented, making application easy and quick.

Eyeliner: IM’UNNY Skinny Fit Slim Pencil in Honey Brown - a gel pencil eyeliner that I picked up after starting to use their mascara. Why I love it: very simple, subtle pencil eyeliner that allows quick application in the mornings. The gentle shimmer adds just enough shine to double as both eyeliner and pseudo-eyeshadow in one application. A must have for quick getting ready routines.

For more serious looks: MAC Liquidlast 24-Hour Waterproof Liner. What I like: I searched long and hard to find an eyeliner that was truly waterproof. This is the ONLY product that is absolutely, truly, waterproof. I have gone swimming with it on and it does not budge. It basically doesn’t come off until you want it to come off, but is easy to remove with an oil-based makeup remover, and comes in a number of colors besides the standard black.

Mascara: IM’UNNY Real Fit Skinny Mascara. Why I love it: micro-thin brush! Way more suitable for straight, thin eyelashes than the thick wands from western brands. Buildable, coats each lash gradually instead of dumping mascara on in clumps.

For waterproof: Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara - one of the first mascara products I’ve tried and still good after all the years. What I like: truly waterproof and won’t come off until you’re ready to remove it. Actually it requires a good thorough rub with an oil-based makeup remover to come off completely.

Makeup Setting Mist: e.l.f. Matte Magic Mist & Set. What I like: This mist indeed has the best setting power among those I’ve tried, and it also is the cheapest thanks to e.l.f.’s affordable product lineup. Simple and straightforward.

Makeup Remover: The Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Balm. Why I love it: oil-based makeup remover with a luscious, buttery feel; super gentle yet strong removing power for any makeup on my face. This is the only makeup remover product I’ll ever need. The balm-in-a-tin form factor travels extremely well.

Also a favorite: Biore Makeup Removing Wipe - an emergency buy while traveling in Japan after forgetting to pack my Chamomile balm! I was amazed at how gentle the wipe felt and how well it removed even the most stubborn of my waterproof makeup, the mascara. Great option for packing light on travel.

Eyebrow Gel: Laka Wild Brow Shaper in Balance. Why I love it: subtle, buildable eyebrow gel, manages to tame my wild “manes” of eyebrows without going over the top in adding color or darkness. Now my eyebrows actually look presentable with minimal effort and no plucking!

Perfume: Giorgio Armani Sì Passione - I fell in love with this perfume after sniffing a tester out of a magazine page. What I like: it is a lovely and dynamic scent, sweet and yet complex with the sandalwood finishing note, maturely romantic and perfect for date nights. My husband enjoys it as well when I put it on. It’s pricey but well worth every penny!

As someone who cannot stick to just one makeup look, traveling is not just planning for activities; I must plan my makeup looks ahead as well. I must figure out what eyeshadows I am going to wear, what foundations I may want to use, and what mascaras I will wear. The last few months I have done a lot of traveling, between where I live, visiting home, and traveling with my job. I have put together my favorite makeup picks to store in my makeup bag. 

I love trying out new foundations, and always look for full coverage, and a matte finish. When traveling, I always grab my PUR Foundation Crème Stick. This foundation does not feel heavy on my face and is an amazing full coverage. It also provides me with a matte finish. It does not come off with sweat, nor does it feel sticky on my face. I tend to wear a lot of pinks, so I always pack my Naked 3 palette, which is a “12 pan palette of rose-tinted shades...easy to apply and blend without grabbing, pulling, or creasing” (Mecca, 2023). This palette does exactly that and matches most of my outfits. It also fits snuggly in my makeup bag. For highlighters I tend to pack the Glow Kit by Anastasia Beverly Hills, specifically the butterscotch shade. This shade contains ingredients such as octyldodecanol (Mecca, 2023). Octyldodecanol is a mineral that does not block the pores (EWG’s Skin Deep, 2023). It is very safe on the skin, unlike some ingredients used in makeup. Lastly for bronzer I pack my Nars Mini Laguna Bronzing Powder. Not only is this already a travel size compact, but it gives me a beautiful natural finish. 

My go to products are also my mostly used products. Any time that I have not been able to pack one of these products, I always think to myself, why didn’t I bring this? These products have always left me with a beautiful long-lasting look that is not affected by the humidity, or all the running around done while traveling.

NARS Laguna Bronzing Powder Review

this was one of the first bronzers (maybe even the first, i can’t remember) that i ever bought and i fell in love with it immediately and still love it now, years later. i have this bronzer in the shade laguna (it only comes in one other shade, casino, which is only slightly darker, unfortunately) and this shade is a wonderful shade for a bronzer. it never, ever, ever pulls orange yet it also never has the problem of having to build it up and build it up and build it up and still barely seeing any difference. this bronzer is one of those products that just works.

is this my favorite bronzer though? it was, for a long time, especially when it was the only one i owned! haha, but honestly, even though i’ve found bronzers since falling in love with this one that i tend to use more often and prefer, i still find myself coming back to this one on certain days where i just want to go back to what i know works, y’know?

worth repurchasing?

i hit pan on this nars bronzing powder several months ago and now i’m down to the very last bit but i haven’t repurchased it yet. i say ‘yet’ because i know i’m going to, eventually. it’s just one of those products i know i’ll miss when i don’t have it. but it’s kind of also one of those products that’s a bit… boring to buy. like, it’s so easy to fall into the hype and excitement of brand new makeup and everything, so it’s hard to know when’s the best time to go for that new new or repurchase something tried and true.

what’s a product that you know you want to repurchase, but it’s still kind of a boring thing to buy? i hope you get what i mean by that haha! like something that you love but it’s just same old, same old. let me know in the comments!

Ooohhh yes all nighter urban decay is goooood! But low cost version Stay All Night Micro elf is the same thing I have both 100% recommended -🌶️

  Back by popular request, I’ve rounded up my top bronzers for 2022 … with a twist, as one isn’t technically a bronzer but you’ll see why I added it to the group. It’s actually a bit strange to think that several years ago I rarely used bronzers of any kind, but now it’s one of my most reached for beauty products. Evolution is good!   (more…)
