I HAVE NEWS. After past games ended and I’ve been D&D-less for a while, I’m working on a homebrew campaign and have found people interested in playing in it!
I got bit by the D&D bug, especially hard, recently and have been working on it. And then within 48 hours, I had 5 people ask to play in it when I was just casually talking about it!

Throw a stick at him
So, my adventurers are traveling at night and encounter a fire giant raging in the forest, chopping down trees (with a giant greatsword) in frustration looking for fragments of the Rod of Vonindod..
Human monk that just got shadow step: *poof, disappears ahead to see what’s going on, comes back* Yeah so that’s a fire giant. And he’s in our way to keep going. He’s looking for something. And he’s pissed.
Tiefling Paladin: Maybe someone stole something of his.
Aasimar Sorcerer Criminal (the sketchy klepto of the party): Maybe and maybe we should go find it and keep it for ourselves. If it’s worth stealing it has to be worth something.
Half-Orc Druid: Um guys. Still a raging fire giant. In our way. Are we going to sneak around him or are we going to kill him?
Human Monk: *disappears*
Tiefling Paladin: *runs up to the giant (also speaks giant)* Hey!!! *in giant* Whatcha looking for buddy? Can we help you find it?
Pissed Fire Giant: *uproots a tree and throws it at her, but she rolls a nat 20 on a dex save and dodges it*
Aasimar Sorcerer: Throw a stick at him!
Me as a DM: .......
Half-Orc Druid: *sigh* We’re gonna die.

My Players Tonight
Tonight, we were playing D&D. There was an encounter where an enemy introduced an invisible stalker to combat. Our Paladin Sage rolled to fling ink at it, so that it would become more visible to fight.
I didn’t expect that. I’m going to have to remember they are craftier than I thought.

Character Nicknames
So, my adventurers tend to rename things during combat because they either can’t remember the enemy’s name or they don’t like the name so they come up with something better. Some of my favorites so far:
Xolkin- became “Zyrtec,” the allergy medicine
Kella-became Kellogg
Morak- tic-tac

Monkeys and Shortbows
So, in a twist I certainly didn’t plan for, one of my players taught a monkey how to shoot a shortbow to aid in a battle with multiple giants and ogres.
Taught. A. Monkey. To. Shoot. A. Shortbow.
Natural 20s swoop in and help my incredibly creative players do nonsense sometimes. Why?!?
But it really is cool though. I keep picturing the lil monkey from Pirates of the Caribbean.
