Conditioning occurs all the time in society.

Today, I was just doing Duolingo Irish, and they have this matching words exercise. The English word was NURSE. I couldn't find BANALTRA, which is what I learned from a very young age as the word for NURSE. There was, however, the world ALTRA, which I matched. Never in my many years of education in the Irish school system was the world ALTRA used for NURSE. It was always BANALTRA. We were being conditioned from a young age that NURSES ARE WOMEN! For those that are not familiar with the Irish language, when the word BAN is in front of a profession, it is a woman in that profession. My tiny, just about 4 year old brain only comprehended the word BANALTRA that I was shown as the name for NURSE, and I kept it for all time until today. By the way, Google Translate still has BANALTRA.... so nurses are only women ......Mad.

Currently Reading: So you know how I said I need to reread the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series? Yes, anyway I started that. Now the first book is sitting on my desk almost finished for like two weeks now.

Current Fic: Reading as a whole has been falling to the wayside for me lately. I've been mostly reading drabbles from the whump community that cross my dash.

Next on my Watchlist: I need to see Heartstopper when I get a moment, I hear it has good Ace rep.

Current Obsession: The moment youtube decided to start recommending me Irish rebel music to listen to at work, I have been in a near constant spiral into Irish music (and -admittedly surface level- history, like I said It's been difficult even picking up a book lately.) I've been constantly listening to rebel and folk music (and the occasional podcast when the level of concentration needed allows) at work though. I also started learning the language (slowly) on duolingo with the goal being to understand music and stories.

Currently reading: Hot Money - Dick Francis, well more like it's the next one on my reading "to do list", it's one of the few Dick Francis books I haven't read yet, so I'm really looking forward to it >:) always up to suffering with Francis' horse plinkos

Current fic: Across The Galaxy by Greencharacters on AO3 because I need all the Kanera fics inserted directly into my bloodstream-

Currently watching: the Ahsoka show! I love it so far no mention of Kanan??? I MEAN, I love all the Spectres popping up 👀 I'm saving my thoughts on it until after it's finished telling its story - in the words of mister Tolkien "We must not be hasty."

Next on my watch list: Mm, likely Loki, I think the new season comes out a week after Ahsoka ends. Also hoping Lego Ninjago's second half of the new season will come out soon, so that's in the cards as well :D otherwise... maybe His Dark Materials. I think there was something new for that as well? But I'll probably have to rewatch the whole thing, I can't remember where I ended up oop.

Current obsession: Kanan Jarrus :) currently trying to continue with my Inquisitor!Kanan AU without feeling guilty about it- also thanks to @vinniehorrible I am now overthinking the possibility of Marrok being Kanan or a clone of his... it's complicated- and I might explore it on my art blog later. I'm forever of the delulu clan.

i didn’t know i needed this until now but i Need it so here’s some irish dorcas hcs from an irish speaker/gaeilgeoir:

• literally has been dancing since she could walk. her feis dresses are always the most stunning thing

• strong strong believer in “labhair cibé gaeilge atá agat” and “is fearr gaeilge bhriste ná béarla cliste”

• she’s constantly surrounded by english people. she’s gonna speak and write as gaeilge as often as possible out of spite

• has a claddagh ring that’s been passed down in her family for generations. she uses it to propose to her gf (marlene in my opinion but i love you dorlily shippers)

• plays the tin whistle. it’s mandatory if you’re irish actually. never met an irish person that can’t play

• i’d also love to see dorcas playing the harp

• camogie player dorcas?? would threaten to beat someone with her hurl

• goes to mass a lot for someone who is not a practicing catholic. probably even wears a cross necklace

i think it’s time that we as a fandom collectively decide to have dorcas’ fancast be ayo edebiri and also make dorcas irish. it’s just the right thing to do.
