Hello! Labeled universe question. There are some theories that invisibility can be achieved by bending light around the thing that you want to make invisible. If that's true in this AU, would Virgil be able to do that as a light manipulator? It'd be funny if he's used shadows to hide for so long, and then he or Logan find a paper/blog/magazine article about it and he realizes he could have just straight-up gone fully invisible instead. Bonus points if that leads him closer to his goal of willing away sunburns. :D

Going invisible would probably be something a light manipulator could do. However, I'm unsure if Virgil would train his skills to that point. If he does, it'll probably be down the road quite a bit.

He probably would discover that ability in his quest to avoid sunburn lmao.

yes, the feeling b reunion :) they tried to keep it secret from their families and their wives already suspect all kinds of unholy things as boys keep weird hours . Otherwise Paul works in music shop, Flake is journalist in local paper and Schneider teaches kids drums at youthcentre.

Oh, totally. Because you know, the next garden party surely has some importance to it, since it's a party Paul initiated for old time's sake and he wants to celebrate it RIGHT. Like his birthdays always do, this garden party will have a theme (but pssshhht, the wives don't know a thing about this yet), "fun punk at the gardens" 🍃🌻 It will ultimately just be a mixture of chaotic 80s punk aesthetic meeting the 2000s 'way too big shirts and shorts, standing too close by the grill dad core', but that's ok, the vibe is what counts!

And what better way to reconnect with some old friends from back in the wild days, surely the Schwerin guys would love to join the party. Maybe even a joint jam session is in order as the evening progresses and the beer tastes just as delicious as it did back then, when every night was spend cheerfully and relaxed at the beach with bonfires and guitars 🎸 Till managed to get some free time on his busy schedule as the forest ranger in chief in his area (loves his job, can be in nature a lot while always carrying around his little note book to write down snippets of poems if something crosses his mind), Richard is currently on vacation in Germany anyway (as he works as a producer for a little small indipendent record label in California, putting all his savings in there and still waiting for it to get big - we'll see how that goes) and Oliver, a gentle and highly motivated sports teacher at a highschool and a professional surfer on the side (wait until he tells you about his time in Tokyo for the Olympics!) who even already promised to help with the party preparations beforehand. The party promises to be one for the books :)

more and more it makes me kind of uncomfortable (for lack of a better/softer word) to call my own characters ‘ocs’. because like. they’re from a completely original universe and from completely original intertwined stories and all that. so why would i have to specify they’re original in the same way someone would when referring to a character they made for a pre-existing non-original universe/franchise/whatever? by that logic every fiction author ever would be referring to their characters as ocs rather than just. their characters. you know.

Michael's mothers! They're one of the first romantic couples I can remember making for the story, actually.

If we're talking "strictly identifying as women" relationships, aside from some pining there's not much else. Vindemia and Hamburger feel like they have something going on but I don't know if I'd call it a relationship. And I think I'd call Hamburger a burger before I'd call her a woman.

hey! this is chance & here’s week 2's prompt. when you write or create an oc, do you like to reference elements from your life? if yes, name a few. if no, why not?

Pull from my life ? Sort of. Specifically, myself. I often make my villains by extrapolating my worst behaviours. Felix Abner, the villain of my main WIP, started as a self insert.

I have BPD, quiet type, but I always think about what a worse version of myself would be like, a version of myself who didn't have the crippling anxiety that holds me back from making a scene or hurting people. Felix started as that different version of me, although he has certainly changed over time and has many aspects of his character that no longer resemble me. However, his behaviours centred around obsession and love still pull from my own disordered thinking.

Cassedy Lowell, the main character of that same story, has NPD. Although I don't have NPD, I do use some of my own self-aggrandizement as inspiration for writing him and his thought processes. I often dream of being famous or widely recognized, so I gave him similar desires then built from there (with advice from acquaintances with NPD).

I find it therapeutic to put my mental issues into my characters, especially the issues that cause me to imagine violence or have upsetting intrusive thoughts. Writing characters who go through with those thoughts lets me handle those ideas in a safe place where no one actually gets hurt.

Also, my life isn't really that interesting, so I don't have any cool events to pull from. If I had a more exciting life I'd probably use it as inspo, but I'm a pretty boring person from the outside. All the interesting things happen in my noggin.

Have you ever thought about going back and writing Virgil's backstory as a fic in the Labeled AU? Maybe just a bit about what happened at his birth/a hint about his unknown father. And then just a few chapters about his childhood, mostly focused on his powers awakening? Also, it'd be hilarious to see the Shadow Caster/Prince pissing match that Logan mentioned, especially now that they're roommates. Will Virgil ever open up to Roman about his awful childhood and the scars?

Your Labeled fics are some of my favorite things to read and reread, thank you for sharing them!

This is actually the same answer I had for someone else recently. Currently I am focusing on a different part of the timeline, so I don't plan to write any of that right now. It may come up later if I get good ideas for it.

Honestly the father bit, idk if I ever want to even talk about that. He's not really a part of the story and I'm not sure if it would impact anything. I could change my mind though!

We did kind of already see the pissing match between Shadow Caster and Prince from some kid's perspective. There may be more references in stage 5 of Labeled, but we are currently in stage 4. Same with opening up to Roman. Maybe in stage 5.

the person who helped today when I fell out of my wheelchair actually did a really great job, so I want to share in case other people wonder what to do. [Note: this is not universal, this is merely a suggestion from one person, every wheelchair user's needs are different! I am a person who uses a manual chair usually pushed by someone else who is also disabled.]

Scenario: you see someone in a wheelchair fall out of their chair, and you have the ability to help.

1. Approach and ask "are you okay?"*

2. Next question if they say no, are vague, or open to continuing conversation** is, "is there anything I can do to help?" Or "what can I do?"

If they say no to help, then that's the end, just leave and go do whatever you were doing!

If they ask for help or say they are mildly injured, ask "what would you like me to do?" And wait for an answer before doing anything! If they seem dazed or confused, they might have hit their head or had another medical event*, or they might just be like that due to regular disability. Be patient.

Do not touch the person unless they say to, or they are like, unconcious in the middle of the road, ya know?? Wheelchair users usually have conditions that mean being handled improperly can severely injure us, you could cause much more damage than the fall.

Some things they might need you to do:

Bring their wheelchair closer (mine went about 5 feet away after it dumped me)

engage the brakes of the wheelchair

hold wheelchair steady if it's an unsteady surface (mud, hill, ramp, wet, etc)

offer an arm for them to hold onto to get up (them grabbing you, not you grabbing them) or move another solid item closer for them to use (i.e. a chair) [only do this if you physically have the ability to!]

If the terrain is rough (i.e. a parking lot), they *might* ask you to push their chair to a more stable area once they are back in their chair

Do what they ask, NOT what you think would be helpful. If for some reason you have to do something (i.e. you can't stop oncoming traffic and need to get them out) ASAP, tell them what you plan to do

Keep in mind they might also be D/deaf, have a communication disability, be stunned after the fall, have a head injury, not trust other people, etc. Be patient and treat them as a person with autonomy and agency! They might need to just sit on the ground for a few minutes to recover before trying to get back in their chair. They might want everyone to leave them alone. They might ask you to call someone specific. Their chair might have broken and that can be extremely distressing. All of this is like if your legs spontaneously stop working when you're out and about!

A lot of wheelchair users (NOT ALL) have ways to get into their chair on their own once the chair is close enough and brakes engaged (but it's hard from the ground!). Here's what brakes look like on a lot of manual wheelchairs, in case they ask you to lock the brakes. They're levers on each side and pushing the lever pushes a bar against the wheel to hold it still.

*There is also the possibility of course that a person fell out of their chair due to a seizure or other medical event, so that is why it is important to ask if they are okay. If you saw them hit their head, tell them so. If they had a medical event, follow protocol for that, I'm not gonna get into it here (thought I could).

**sometimes a person will be clear after the first question i.e. "I'm all good thanks" clearly means they do not need you to ask another question, you can just leave them alone. Keep walking and don't stare. A lot of the time people will be a bit banged up but be totally fine and able to manage on their own.

TLDR: Ask the wheelchair user if they're okay, then what they need, and then do exactly that, including leaving them alone. Thanks!
