I have a few possible headcanons for why Luke and Leia are force sensitive if force sensitivity is not genetic:
1. ...destiny. The forces of fate were just swirling around all these events like mad and they were the right twins at the right time. In that sense, maybe they were force sensitive because of their father- but not because he would automatically and naturally pass down his force powers. Hey maybe in a fix-it au they would have been born not force sensitive at all! Does that make sense? Am I making sense? It makes sense in my head.
2. Anakin is different because he is the half-force chosen one demi-god etc and that is heritable
3. Anakin is a GMO. There be dark and murky sith experiments and Shmi was being very careful about what she said to Qui Gon. Plagius’s experiments were trying to make the occurrence of force sensitivity controllable and stuff and one way to do that would be to make it heritable. Possibly some ancient sith looked for ways to create dynasties and he could build on that. Possibly Plagius had something more like the clone + transference trick to immortality in mind, which would make it a bummer if his clone wasn’t force sensitive.

Can you elaborate on your comment on Discord that "[TOH characters in general] get a lot of backstory but little connects with their present character"?
*looks at every Hunter fan out there* How do we feel about the fact that this kid was literally raised to kill wild witches and be the Golden Guard but the only fighters in the main cast who are worse than him are the literal child and the illusionist?
Hunter is easily the most obviously egregious one but also the one that actually has a potential magical slide. After all, we don't actually know if Hunter has been alive for sixteen years. He potentially could have been alive for probably only five, thus making it so he has time to be trained and indoctrinated but was also 'old' enough to be easier to handle, left alone, etc. like that. Of course... That doesn't really fix the larger problem with Hunter's backstory versus his present day character, is it?
See, this is how I would breakdown what the theoretical present day concept for each character is that Luz meets versus the backstory version: Eda: Irreverent criminal who is only out for herself and probably would just be committing larger scale crimes for funsies if not for the curse. Backstory: Lovable scamp with a heart of gold who only ever does jokes, nothing actually bad and look at this child she adopted and totally won't threaten with rent later on.
Amity: A driven, goal obsesses girl who will do anything to be the best. Even simply losing the title and not being made to look like a fool is enough to warrant someone needing to die and she bullies the weak for fun and superiority. Backstory: Felt bad for hurting her teammates for personal glory and victory (those same teammates she will tell to eat a dick in that same episode), only bullied Willow for her own sake, frankly would rather just be a little goofball than actually succeed at anything.
Lilith... Okay, frankly it's more that S2 Lilith makes absolutely no sense with S1 Lilith. If they hadn't entirely warped her character, her backstory is actually pitch perfect for her grown up self, even down to being a little silly and caring about her sister. A LITTLE silly mind you.
Golden Guard: Actually fits the backstory as the rage and confidence of youth mixed with too much power and indoctrination make for an incredibly dangerous, close to unhinged Kylo Ren clone who will go from joking to I WILL MURDER YOU! if you don't take him seriously or annoy him.
Hunter: I'm just a widdle silly guy who can't even gut check a girl and force her to give me my staff. I am all for wild magic because maybe it can save my uncle, despite my uncle's problems being caused by wild magic. I will literally never win a fight alone except against Kikimora, the closest to a true, reoccurring gag villain that the series has.
Now yes: A character can grow and change as they get older. It can be a fun joke to have a prim and proper character have been a nightmare as a toddler. But this isn't how TOH portrays these backstory moments commonly. Much of the time, the backstory is meant to effectively be in the place of real moments in a character arc.
Take Amity's moment with Willow. In a normal character arc, this is the chance for the character to prove that they have a good heart and are maybe not as mean as they seem. However, Amity already has done that at least once with confessing to not wanting to see Luz hurt in Adventure in the Elements, if her diary didn't already do this in combination with not holding onto her rage against Luz there in Lost in Language. So they HAVE to put it as a backstory moment or it wouldn't be notable. Except... It would have? Hell, they even try to frame it as a kindness to Willow at the beginning which is a good idea because Amity's first appearance was being cruel to Willow but now that she's changed some but hasn't interacted with Willow since episode 6, she needs to show some kindness to her. But it's ALL kindness because they've already fully transitioned into good girl Amity so rather than feeling like a growth moment, it's to justify what they're doing. To say "Of course her development isn't this rushed because it's not development! It's just the old Amity coming back out."
The moment with the Thorn Vault is similar. A character like Amity SHOULD have a moment where she decides success isn't everything and steps back so as to allow someone else to take the spotlight if it means doing less harm. It's a good idea for a moment in her arc. But again: Amity has already moved past that part of her arc. She hasn't been focused on success or being the best since her SECOND APPEARANCE. And this is her last one in S1 so it goes into the backstory to show that she does understand the consequences of her actions rather than having it be a part of her arc.
Frankly, this stuff is just a part of a different blog I need to make about how Amity episodes are strangely NOT about Amity. She actually doesn't factor into them much so her arc feels bad because even episodes like Lost in Language or Adventure in the Elements only have five minutes of Amity at most.
Meanwhile for someone like Eda or Hunter, it's retcons. Eda needs to be convincingly like Momma Eda so making her actually motherly with King when they first met is a good idea... But it contrasts all they did in S1. Hunter is meant to show the cruelty of Belos but they want him to already be the sad but mad boy by the halfway point of the season (which btw, halfway through S1, Amity was already borrowing an Azura book from Luz showing compromise, kindness and connection, much like Hunter connecting with Amity's fears, almost giving into her speech about kindness and adopting Flapjack. There's a reason I say the shortening did fuck all to these character arcs because they follow the same god damned patterns) so that stuff needs to be in the backstory, like his scout training.
And to me, that is the antithesis of a backstory. Unless the point is that they're different from who they used to be, which it's often not for TOH, it should reinforce what we know about them. How did they get to the point they're at. It's actually one of the only strengths narratively of Them's the Breaks because the final challenge by Terra is a good moment to make Eda start rethinking her long term goals and if she likes the coven system at all.
It would just work way better if her present day character was anti-coven because it pits people against each other and tears the Isles apart instead of just "It makes you way less cooler than me because I can do ALL styles of magic." As such... It's them acknowledging what a good motivation in the setting and plot would have been but recognizing it too late so they have to add it as a retcon.
And you can only get away with that trick so many times before it feels like your story is a house of cards trying to pretend it's made out of stone.

Hey @banthaboybobaoba, this you?
This you being mommy's little mistake to this fandom Since 2015?
No one here asked for your fucking opinion about a ship you hate. I'm sick a tired of seeing it IN MY TAG.
I'm telling you to take your shitty shit covered shit opinion and ram it squarely back up your asshole where it fucking belongs and to GTFO out of this tag.
Sincerely,
A reylo
You seem really worried that women in this fandom maybe don't understand that Star Wars is a fictional fantasy story set in space.
But since YOU seem really confused about it let me be the first to tell you:
Star Wars isn't real.
We don't have to hold Kylo Ren or any other fictional character for that matter accountable for the fake people they hurt and kill.
He's fucking fake.
This Whole Story Is Fake.
Young impressionable women are not reading fanfiction and looking at the fanart in this fandom and thinking to themselves: 'Man, that Kylo Ren sure is the pinnacle of man I want in my life to bare my children. I can't wait to meet him in real life and demand he gives me his seed."
It's not your fucking job to tell anyone what FICTION they can and can't partake in. You can hardly spell full words on your shit blog posts. Maybe learn how to write a full fucking sentence before you start handing out really shitty psychology advice that not a single soul here asked for.
Bitch I ain't even sure you know how to tie your fucking shoes and here you fucking are policing a whole ass fandom because you can't understand the fictional angry guy you don't personally like didn't actually hurt anyone and everyone else here is fully aware he's fucking fake.
You don't read a lot of fanfics in this fandom so I'm not expecting you to know this but massive number of the fanfictions in this fandom revolve around Kylo Ren becoming a good person I.E. Ben Solo.
I'm not fucking joking.
There are over 27,000 reylo fanfics on AO3 right now.
And this is just some of the tags I decided to dick around in.
Like... Redeemed Ben Solo
Ben Solo Needs a Hug
Redemption, with the added modifier to insure the main ship in the story is Ben/Rey
That's over 7,000 fanfics dealing with a redeemed Ben Solo.
Fuck me sideways, the Ben Solo/Rey tag ALONE has over 9,000 fanfics in it.
Anyone who knows how to use AO3 better than me is more than welcome to come fact check me because I do feel like I'm using the search feature wrong from time to time when it comes to the tags on AO3. I kinda feel like these numbers are actually higher than what I'm able to efficiently search for.
See, the reylos understand that Ben Solo can be redeemed without much fucking effort and it's a popular theme in this fandom.
I know this, the reyo fandom knows this. Adults with half working brains understand this. Children grasp this concept.
But you sure as fuck don't seem to.
The very last fucking thing we want or need is someone who obviously hates this pairing showing up in our goddamn tags telling us the FAKE MAN from a FICTIONAL STORY IN SPACE was mean to a woman once so we should just throw him in the trash.
Throw yourself in the fucking trash and get the fuck out of this tag.
If you are so fucking childish you can't understand that fiction is fake, first off delete your fucking account because you are too mentally stunted to be using this website without parental supervision, and secondly get the flying fuck out of this tag.
You're not fucking welcome here.
If you look at the years you have put into harassing people in this fandom and still think you're the morally righteous person here then you are fucked in the head.
I only started doing this to tell you Anti fuckstains to get the fuck out of a tag you don't belong in.
I'm not doing this for funzees. I don't get extra internet points for being an asshole to you and I would much rather spend my evening fucking your parents, God knows, but much like pulling out invasive plants around my neighborhood I'll take time out of my day to remove a noxious weed from my fandom space.
I’m going to play a fun little game I invented which is every time I see your ugly fucking face rear it’s unwelcome head in the reylo tag acting a goddamn fool I’m going to go out of my way to give my money to someone in the reylo fandom.
See, I make dildos for a living and with the money your dad spends on giant horse cock alone I can afford A Lot of reylo swag.
I want you to understand fully that you and you alone are allowing many reylos to flourish more than they already are, which is to say quite a bit without my help.
Butt Fuckit I got money and a point to make.
I want you to understand fully how pointless you having spent 8 years posting in a fucking tag you don't belong in and harassing the very real people in this fandom has been.
Spend another 8 years doing absolutely nothing with your wasted fucking life, see what I fucking care.
Your parents are disappointed in you either way.
I would know. They're right here I just got done fucking both of them.
But do know if I see you here again I'm going to make yet another post telling you to fuck off and I'm going to buy more reylo shit.
See this book here?
It's called the Hurricane Wars and it's written by an author in the reylo fandom who penned the wildly popular fanfiction 'Landscapes with a Blur of Conquerors', Thea Guanzon.
Ironically, also a fanfiction about a redeemed Ben Solo.
Not even her first popular fanfic she's made either, that one being the 'Sword of the Jedi' series which UMMF that shit was a better sequel trilogy than what we actually got.
Another redeemed Ben Solo fanfic.
I hope you're noticing a trend here.
The cover was created by a well know reylo artist @artofcrumbs and may I say she knocked it out of the park.
Today I'm going to pre-order this book because fuck you @banthaboybobaoba.
I'm tickled pinkgreen. I've always thought about taking some of the reylo fanfictions I really liked and making physical copies of them for my bookshelf would just be the neatest thing and here I don't even need to go through the effort of binding a book because the fics are so good they're just getting published.
Honestly I can't wait to see the fics they write for the ship you hate because they're gonna be real fuckin' good and also fuck you @banthaboybobaoba.
You deserve to have the ship you hate get wildly popular.
Keep posting in this tag @banthaboybobaoba. There's literally an entire etsy full of reylos pins I've been drooling over and Ali Hazelwood, New York Times bestselling writer has an entire series of published books that I read back when they were reylo fanfics that I've been dying to buy.
Hey @banthaboybobaoba
If you don’t like reylo I have some very good news for you, don’t go into the reylo tag and you’ll never see reylo content again. You are responsible for the content you see on this website and if you dislike something you can just not interact with it instead of being a giant bell end.
You choose to be in this tag and be a massive cunt when no one fucking invited you here in the first place so do us all a solid and get a fucking hobby that don’t involve you being fucking cunt to people in a fandom you don’t fucking belong in.
Take your STD encrusted gatekeeping dick and shove it into a fucking pencil sharpener for all the fucks I don’t give, just get the flying fuck out of this tag.
let’s make telling Anti shit eating fuckwads off cool again.

i was thinking about one my favorite jenny nicholson videos, the one where she lists her reasons for why she thinks kylo ren will be redeemed, and i remember the point she makes that's like "what would the moral even be if he isn't? 'sometimes people are evil and they can't be redeemed, and they just have to be put down, like a mad dog".
and obviously it is a joke but this part stuck with me because, regardless of how you feel about this particular character and his arc, this seems to be a "moral" that tumblr genuinely wants to see in media? like, people seem to think that the idea that "sometimes people are just shitty and that's it, that's all they will ever be" is some kind of revolutionay or highly progressive message, and they get frustrated when the fiction they consume - which tends to be, like, feel-good entertainment or media directly aimed towards children - doesn't reflect that.
and i find that to be so weird. because, yes, on a personal level it's okay to cut people off from your life if they're being toxic to you, and you're not obligated to forgive anyone who hurt you no matter what their reasons are, but the idea that some people are just evil because, and they'll never improve or change, is not often one that is inspiring or interesting to witness in fiction. sure, in real life this is can be the case, but in fiction you can explore every single possibility of the human condition, and the "people are evil sometimes and that's all there is it to it" is a deeply incurious, boring way to look at morality and humanity.
i'm far from the first person to point this out, but it's especially ironic that this point of view is so popular in communities that tend to be obsessed with social justice, that believe in prison abolition, the end of punitive justice and such. i'm not saying you have to want every villain redeemed in fiction to have these political stances in real life - that'd be silly. it's just that the collective creaming in the pants people seem to have at the idea of "irredeemably evil" characters, or the argument that such characters are necessary or good to have because people must understand no one "owes" anybody forgiveness, to me is strange in the context of the aforementioned politics.
to put it more simply: it's not "i don't want to read/watch redemption arcs" that bothers me, because that's a personal preference, it's the "redemption arcs are bad and send bad messages for the audience because the person being redeemed shouldn't ever evolve and improve" thing that really puzzles me.
#there are villains that i think work better as villains too lol i don't want every single evil person in fiction to be redeemed#but i don't think the 'actually it's BETTER to show people that some human beings are BEYOND SALVATION' line of thought is good#is what i'm trying to say lol

"Give me a character and I will answer"
@callmehername asked me about Ben Solo/Kylo Ren.
(My answers to the other characters are here)
Why I like them
It is hard to talk about this character when I know so little about him, since he's very new compared to all the others. So be kind if I make assumptions bc it's mostly what we can do for now, I think. For me at least, to take what we canonically know about him for sure doesn't leave much to choose, so I'm doing my own thing a bit 🤷🏻♀️
Having said this:
Basically, I like him bc he's complex. He's conflicted, but that's something we've seen before. He's also unstable tho. Really unstable.
But I also like him because I feel like I have a hard time reading him. Like, we know he's unstable, but... Are his actions those of a conflicted (and traumatized and probably brainwashed) child grown up? Or not really? I mostly get the feeling he could be very determined and manipulative under that confused look. That he knows exactly what he's doing even if he looks like a mess with temper tantrums. That he's conflicted and he knows people know that, so he uses that as a disguise, like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Or maybe it isn't that at all. Maybe he's THAT misguided. I guess we'll have to wait for Episode IX to find out more, but for now I like that he keeps me guessing.
Then there is also the fact that troughout the Episodes, we are repeatedly told by the Jedi that one must resist the Dark Side. It is easy to fall and once you do, it forever will dominate your destiny. And I think it's fascinating how Kylo is permanently fighting to stay in it. For someone to show such a struggle with the Dark Side, it could mean an increadibly strong alignment to the Light and/or that he was pushed into the darkness by someone without his consent (hello Snoke) probably by means of an idea in his mind. An idea that was wrong all along: what Vader was supposed to be like. What he was supposed to be too. So he's holding onto the darkness on sheer determination to be that. (Which I find to be very ironic bc if you read my opinion on Anakin I always thought he was conflicted all along, Vader as well. Maybe not just like Ben, but he wasn't like Sheev, that kind of pure evil that Ben seems to think he was.)
To me it all goes down to: would he struggle as much to stay in the Light as he struggles to be in the Dark? How much of it was Snoke's doing? Walking the fine line between the Light and the Dark would make him even more interesting as a character. And it also brings something into the table that I've been waiting for many, many years: actual force balance/the Grey/etc.
So, essentially, what I love the most about his character is all the possibilities he brings to the table and the fact that he's not just a villian, not just a [insert other classic character tropes here].
(I could say the same about Rey in a way, since they are two sides of the same coin. But also not quite the same. And also I'm not here to talk about Rey haha)
Why I don’t
To me it makes no sense his name is Ben unless there's something I missed. I'm still waiting for an explanation that makes it fitting.
(oh and also he's supposed to be 29 and he doesn't feel like it to me? and sometimes I feel confused? lol idk how to explain it bc I don't really know what bugs me, but something feels off 🤷🏻♀️ but that's about it, no big deal at all haha)
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
Easy. When he kills Snoke in The Last Jedi. More like, how he does it. I'm a huge fan of the whole deception he plays on him.
And let me say I think he might have had it planned all along when he took that look at the guards while being in the room that time before 👀
Favorite season/movie
IDK AAAAH
Maybe it's the one to come?
No, seriously. I really don't know. I have no preference atm.
If I must choose based on him aesthetically tho, then I'm choosing The Force Awakens! TFA hair AAAAALL THE WAY:
GIF source*
Favorite line
"Forgive me. I feel it again... The pull to the Light."
I just love it.
Favorite outfit
I believe he's only had one?
GIF source*
One very much on point tho👌🏻
OTP
I don't ship him romantically atm 🤔
BROTP
OMG ALSO NO BROTPs?! I JUST DON'T SHIP HIM AT ALL. I REALLY BOUGHT THE SPACE EMO KID THING HE'S SELLING 🤣
Head Canon
He understands Wookie like it's his mother tongue.
He and Chewie used to play when he was a kid. It was like having a huge (and alive) teddy bear friend to play with. They would do mechanics together and later some piloting maybe?
💔
(OK, MAYBE I WANTED HIM AND CHEWIE AS BROTP BUT IT'S NOT POSSIBLE ANYMORE, HE KILLED HAN FFS AAAAHHH😭😭😭)
Unpopular opinion
The anti's are not morally superior, they are just haters and bullies.
First of all, acting as if Kylo Ren was the devil is non-sense in GFFA. He's not that bad if you compared to so many others lol He's no saint, but why would he have to be? And even if it was denying someone a redemption before he can even claim it or whatever is really, really shitty. So there's no hope then for people to improve? Shouldn't they be encouraged to get better specially if they have been wrong and hurt others? Not discouraged? What kind of shit is that.
And second, shipping him with Rey or whoever is fine even if it was unhealthy. I have seen a million unhealthy ships (some in GFFA too) and no one ever made a big deal because it is no big deal. And this one should be no different. You just want an excuse to hate. Besides, many shippers actually ship them in AUs. So it's not necessarily an unhealthy ship. But in case it was, it's none of your business. And certainly no one deserves the shitty treatment these people give to the shippers. And on top of all of that, I find disgusting that they use something as detrimental as abusive relationships as an excuse to be bullying other fans. WHICH IS ABUSIVE TOO, HELLO. To use your (supposedly) superior morals as the reason to be rightfully allowed to discriminate others is by definition abusive behaviour. And this is real life, not some fictional character's. Really, really ugly shit smh
#RANTOVER.
A wish
I hope they don't play the classic redemption arc and stick to the simple usual light vs. darkness thing. Give something more complex, something good, something different. GIVE SOMETHING INSPIRING.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen
I don't think Reylo is a good idea in canon, like, there being romantically involvement in the movie.
Not bc of the relationship itself. Although I would prefer none of it, I don't know what they are planning and I don't think I know better than the creators, so it could probably be done right in some way if that's really the plan. And who knows, maybe I would enjoy it(?) Butr my taste, the balance of the force should be the plot and I feel this, even as a sub-plot, would overshadow it. So it's a no for me atm.
Also imagine all the haters backlash if it happened... Look, idk if I have enough patience for another TLJ 😱
(SEE? HATERS ARE WHY THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF WRITING ANYMOREok I try to chill nowBUT SERIOUSLY STOP THE FLAME WARSi want an overall happy fandom why can't we have it)
5 words to best describe them
Lonely. Misunderstood. Overpowered. Unstable. Capable.
My nickname for them
Kylo is fine haha I don't think I ever call him Ben (by now you know I don't much like him being called that)
I fail at the nickname thing, I really have no nicknames for any of them! Ok maybe space emo prince 👀 😂

And this is it!
