I’ve wanted to know more about your stories for YEARS 🙌 tell us about the Elena Mia Riley story and the Lia Necklace story

Thank you 🥰. These are some good choices, because I probably have the most thought-out lore for them.

Elena Mia Riley story

So this is probably the oldest of any of my stories. We're talking like junior high here. The main characters were originally twin sisters who were witches (probably thanks to Twitches) and the characters had names/appearances based on kids from school and even Gossip Girl. Safe to say the story and characters have evolved a great deal since then, but I do still have the twin sisters. I just focus on the one and her family more.

This one is set in like a real/non-fantasy world (though some character jobs may be) and it's a multigenerational family story. I have so much backstory and details going into these characters that I have no idea which point in the story or which characters I would actually choose to write. So it's mostly just me thinking about different points in the different characters' lives.

The three names in the title are these characters:

Elena Francesca Bertolini Espinosa: Daughter of Italian-American actor James Bertolini and Colombian-born model Liliana Espinosa Hernández. She has a twin sister, Alicia. She marries her high school sweetheart Tyler Bennett, who becomes a pro NFL quarterback. They have four kids (a son and three daughters) and later four grandkids. She is a fashion/costume designer and activist/philanthropist, especially for women's and immigrant rights. Overall, she's a smart, fiery, kind-hearted, open-minded woman and a very protective mama bear.

Mia Grace Bennett: Youngest daughter of Elena Bertolini and Tyler Bennett. Growing up, she struggled a lot with feeling different because she was a quieter kid who didn't do as well in school as her siblings or really fit in with her family. She also is the only blonde in her family, so other people and paparazzi would joke that she wasn't really her parents' kid. She saw her mother as perfect too, and since she didn't see a lot in common between her and her mom, it really hurt her self-esteem and their relationship. She was definitely a daddy's girl, especially with being the youngest daughter. As a kid, she got into dance and that grew into her greatest passion. So she became a professional dancer, doing a variety of different dance styles and gigs. Eventually she gets a love interest, Chase Parker, who she has an on-off relationship with for a while and then later they have a daughter who she in turn has a complicated relationship with.

Riley Elena Bennett-Parker: Daughter of Mia Bennett and Chase Parker. Granddaughter of Elena and Tyler. Her parents were never married, and she was the result of a them running into each other after like four years of not seeing each other and then hooking up. She loves both her parents, but while she has a really good relationship with her dad, she has a more complicated one with her mom. Mia herself isn't famous, even though some of her relatives are, but Chase is a well-known actor. Because of Mia's issues with paparazzi and invading her and her family's privacy growing up, she doesn't want Riley to go through the same thing, which she definitely would with her famous relatives, her actor dad, and the circumstances of her birth. So they try their hardest to keep her paternity a secret from the outside world, which as you can imagine does cause some strain. She is also a passionate individual like her mom, but she puts her efforts more into protesting and activism for things like privacy, personal rights, and other political issues.

Lia Necklace story

I'll try to be a little shorter with this one. This story idea probably sprouted from reading the His Dark Materials books by Phillip Pullman back in high school. This one has also evolved and continues going through changes as I develop the lore. Unlike the first story, this has a fantasy/magical/sci-fi aspect to it.

We'll start with the lore part of it. So at some point in time there was a group of scientists who found a way to separate people's bodies from their souls. I don't know the how, but it works like one of those X-linked disorders like color blindness. The people they did this to started aging more slowly once they reached adulthood, lived longer, didn't get sick, could only die of natural causes or taking off their special item, and other health benefits like that. But the way they were able to separate the body and soul was to tie the soul to a special piece of jewelry, like a family heirloom. The families who were part of this had the jewelry chosen, and then as they died they had to pass the jewelry on to the next generations. I'm working on the idea of there being like some sort of ruling or governing body that oversaw the project and the people affected. At some point, the main government shut down the project and didn't let the scientists do this to any more people. However, these families already affected still lived on and were forced to follow new rules from the ruling body. Like they couldn't let normal people know about them and they could only marry and have kids with other people like them, both for secrecy and because they didn't know what it would do if a special and normal person had a kid. The ruling body watched over the special families and we would learn later on that there are consequences for violating their rules.

The two big characters I go back and forth between as the main one are:

William "Will" Masen: Raised mostly by his mother because his father and younger brother died in a car accident where they lost their jewelry when he was a kid. He is a "special" (term TBD) like the rest of his family. His special object is a ring that's been passed down through his family. He falls in love with a normal woman, Beth. Although he knows he shouldn't be with her and is afraid of the consequences they'll face, she is not afraid to take the risk and they eventually get married. He faces the same worries when she gets pregnant, because of what could happen to them and the potential of a half-special child. They have a normal son, Andrew "Drew". Three years later Beth ends up pregnant again and this time they have a daughter, who because of the X-chromosome nature of his condition, is now a carrier/half-special who is affected a little differently than a full special and gives him even more to worry about. After four years, his wife suddenly gets sick and dies shortly after. He never remarries, or even really tries dating after her death. He just puts all his focus on protecting his kids and keeping his family together. He is a talented singer/musician and works giving private music lessons. As the story progresses, he's going to learn long-held family secrets as well as the circumstances/causes of his wife's death.

Amelia "Lia" Masen: Daughter of Will and Beth Masen. Younger sister of Drew. She is a carrier/half-special, which means she had to start wearing her special item (a family necklace) shortly after birth rather than at a year old and that she'll die quicker than a regular special if her piece of jewelry is taken off (because her soul is caught between her body and her special necklace). She loves music like her dad. She's also a bit of a jaded and moody kid, because of how young she lost her mother and how protective her dad is and how her brother gets to be normal while she's the way she is. I'm still debating on the idea of a love interest who's normal but learns her secret because he knows about the special people through his family. I don't know the circumstances yet, but a plot point would be her at some point getting her necklace forcibly taken off and her loved ones having to save her.

15. something you learned this year

Oh man. Did I learn anything? I think I somewhat learned how to flip back and forth between two ships while working on projects. I got back to writing Stydia this year which I thought would be much harder to do than it was? I feel like I isolated the ships/ fics I was working on better in my mind, haha, which I'm generally pretty terrible at. Normally I have issues separating characters' voices in my head if I'm trying to write for 2 different fandoms at a time.

21. most memorable comment/review

Lol I don't know if this really counts but the comment my beta Fer left on the end of this most recent chapter saying "I think actually you should end on this [much angstier] scene." I literally had to snapchat her to make sure she hadn't been body snatched 😂

24. favorite fic you read this year

☁️ ⇢ what made you choose your username?

On all platforms I use some variation of the username kylermalloy or Kyler, which is the name of a Nancy Drew PC game character I played when I was twelve. It was a cool name, and at one time I thought I would name my future, hypothetical child Kyler. Then I stole the name for my online persona and decided I didn’t want any kids, so it all worked out!

Uhh maybe TMI but I record the date of my period starting every month, so I wrote down “July 29” this morning 😂

Favorite moment Whenever Keyleth has this awkward nerdy interest, like Vax's wings.

Idea for a story Keyleth, Vex and Pike go on a spa day. They talk about love and life. Just the girls bonding would be great.

Unpopular opinion Keyleth is not perfect? Is that an unpopular opinion? I feel like because Keyleth (and Marisha) were so unfairly criticized in the past, it is now almost impossible to have any form of critique. I do feel Keyleth's faults make her much more interesting as a character than if she were perfect.

Favorite relationship Keyleth and Vax, with Keyleth and Percy close second. I love the supporting bond she has with Vax regardless of romantic intent, and her friendship with Percy is very wholesome because they are so different.

Favorite headcanon Keyleth likes to turn into different animals when she feels anxious because their forms make her relax and experience the world in a different way, which is sometimes easier to handle.

The Hardest Hue To Hold

After my twitter thread about Erwin choosing Levi as next of kin from way back, i finally wrote this Eruri fic which basically is just more of the same thing but with in-your-face symbolism lol. Nevertheless, I like it and I hope you’ll enjoy it too!
