The Phantom of the Opera | Seoul, South Korea | 동팬텀 x 송크리 Review 3/6
October 12, 2023
The Phantom of the Opera | 전동석 Jeon Dong-seok
Christine Daaé | 송은혜 Song Eun-hye
Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny | 황건하 Hwang Gun-ha
Carlotta Giudicelli | 이지영 Lee Ji-young
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Round 2 of Jeon Dong-seok! Ah let's see what my excuse was this time... "How could I possibly let go of a center 5th row seat that I snatched? And a different Christine, Raoul, and Carlotta means it's a different experience!" Sure, whatever helps you sleep at night, Elisa. But hey it was very different!!!
Here's my second silly little Dong-seok ticket holder because I booked both of his seats on Yes24. I was 5th row center this time, which was almost out of the chandelier's range and just ever so slightly more to the left than my previous seat. But this is still an incredibly close view …and I still brought my binoculars to stare everyone down despite that.

Hannibal Rehearsal / Think of Me
I'm really in love with Lee Ji-young Carlotta. She definitely acts like a very classy and elegant normally, but she's really cute and dramatic when she gets angry. She leans more into the Italian accent and the stubborn demanding diva attitude. I thought she fit very well with Park Hoe-rim's Piangi because of her personality and voice.
Tumblr media
I like the detail right before 'Think of Me' starts when Song Eun-hye's Christine does this little throat clearing and nervous swallow. Her eyes were wide like a deer in headlights. Ji-soo acted more timid like she was about to melt on the spot, but she was about to bolt I think this is one of her best moments in the show. She's radiant and truly looks like a new soprano making her debut. Despite her voice still being a little strained from illness (you may or may not recall she was out a few days which resulted in the understudy Kwon Ga-min's very eventful debut), I still enjoyed her vibrant enthusiasm that shined through. Her cadenza is beautiful and she holds her last notes for such a long time before she gives the cutest proudest bow to complete the song. Hwang Gun-ha's Raoul is so funny when he gets up to cheer for Christine because he's really loud and boisterous. He's probably especially embarrassing for the managers to sit with bless his heart Unfortunately, you can't appreciate the full acting and extension of her notes with this video but you can still at least appreciate her voice:
youtube
Angel of Music/Little Lotte/The Mirror
She has lots of little girlish mannerisms in addition to the cute awkwardness before 'Think of Me'. When Meg wanted to know who taught her, Christine opened her mouth excited like she was about to speak, but then paused looking like she was very stumped about how to even begin explaining. After hugging Raoul, she was particularly flustered by the closeness and looked around nervously. She also looks at her hand and touches it in surprise when he kisses it on the way out of the dressing room. Gun-ha's voice is very unique and quite deep for a Raoul. His Raoul definitely has that charismatic aristocratic feeling. Some people find it strange, but it doesn't bother me honestly. My grievances to air are about other things that I'll explain later. I had a much closer view and better angle of 'The Mirror' this time both with and without binoculars (yes even that close I was pulling those out okay) so I was able to see the Phantom's face a lot clearer in the mirror. At one point he closed his eyes and breathed in deeply with his hand to his chest like he was really satisfied hearing her plea to him. I think SEH Christine's reacted to the Phantom like she finally needed to understand who her Angel of Music was. She was nervous, but looked slightly excited as well.

The Phantom of the Opera
I got to experience Dong-seok's third boat failure. That's four if you wanna include him crashing his Y&K Phantom boat (yes I'll always bring it up and make fun of that it's funny) I was wondering why the boat hadn't come out yet and I thought maybe it'd be okay when I saw the front peeking out a bit even though it was oddly coming out from the side rather than the back...and then I saw him uselessly rowing without moving until he just gave up. Anyway, Jesus miracles were performed once again! He very sweetly guided Christine, lighting the way for her and showing off the view. They looked at each other when they sang the "fantasies/secrets" line and he lifted her chin up to meet her eyes. He smiled when he nodded once with SJS, but because of the unique situation here, it seemed even sweeter. :') Also, since I was so close, I could see the doubles they used for the walkway above with my binoculars
Tumblr media
The Music of the Night
SEH Christine takes a bit longer to warm up to the Phantom. She started off more hesitant and wary yet still curious. I wouldn't say she's afraid, just uncertain. JDS Phantom was especially awkward and inexperienced, even more than the last time. He felt like a younger man experiencing his first love. I just think he feels and tries to be seductive, suave, romantic, etc, but he gets so overstimulated easily that he ends up fumbling. It was like she was an alluring fire that he was drawn to, but he kept foolishly burning himself getting too close. Like before, he touched her shoulder lightly and briefly, but pulled back nervously with a wavering voice before using his other arm to wrap around her. But you could see a bit of subtle relief when she relaxed in his arms. I remember Christine sort of nuzzling in closer to him which gave him more confidence to lean in as well. He was still a little shaky though trying to hold in his emotions By the end of the song SEH Christine a lot more at ease with the Phantom and actually captivated by him. She was finally starting to understand the beauty of this music of the night that he was trying to show her. Both Christines would get very moved at the end with watery ears, but I think this is the show I actually saw the tears falling from one of them. I could see him wiping the tears from her face gently when he had put his cloak over her at the end
Stranger Than You Dream it
I'm trying not to laugh typing this, but I think the pose he had here when he turned to face her looked so...here I'll leave this:
Tumblr media
It was this, but he was angry and covering his face with the hand that's not holding him up and leaning forward more. Everyone else was on their knees, but he had to stick his long leg all the way out for some reason which is really not important or notable I guess, but I found it amusing okay SEH Christine always watches the Phantoms while SJS looks down until the end when she starts to feel bad for him. He and Christine had a moment where they reached out to each other at the end of the crawl almost touching before he turned away quickly. I don't think she was really fully afraid of his appearance. It seemed more like his reaction was what upset her. She looked disappointed that she couldn't reach him
Notes I/Prima Donna
LJY Carlotta is so perfectly expressive and she matches so so well with Piangi. I love how she started off Prima Donna so pouty-faced. It seems like she's slowly warming up, trying to hold back from showing that their words are sort of pleasing her because she's still mad and stubborn (and maybe it's also so they can continue showering her with praise)
Il Muto
SEH Serafimo is so sassy. She just makes the silliest most exaggerated looks like pure disgust at the kiss or huge goo-goo eyes at the Countess. She puffs out her chest with her hands on her hips making a pouty face like she's this little charming tough guy. Words don't do it justice honestly. This is my favorite version of this scene
Tumblr media
LJY Carlotta also kills me. The way she still tries to act put together, but clearly cannot keep her shit together. She lets out "말하지말고 / Don't speak" as a loud growl like she's emphasizing what she just said to her out of character before. It was hilarious watching Monsieur André's interaction with the conductor below when he was pushing for the ballet to start from this close. He was seriously about to lose his mind.
Masquerade / Why So Silent?
Sitting in a much closer seat, I think I can understand what people mean about hearing Dong-seok sing during Why So Silent. It's not so loud, but it was definitely there under the pre-recording. Under the skull his mouth moved in a much more natural way rather than the exaggerated way needed for the skull to move (which meant the mask didn't move much)
Tumblr media
Twisted Every Way
SJS Christine looks so tired of everything during this scene, but SEH Christine is a lot more shaken up whenever she's in distress. I think it's another way her Christine feels a bit younger? But by 'Wishing' you can clearly see the growth she's gone through (although it was stronger in the second two performances I saw because she still seemed a bit ill this one) LJY Carlotta develops some more sympathy towards Christine at this point so when she says 미쳤네/she's mad, it sounds more like she's genuinely concerned for her mental state HGH Raoul. is so loud at the end I thought my ear drums would explode in the 5th row. You can accumulate severe ear damage between him and the ballerina screams. (Although I also just think the sound in the theaters I went to was incredibly loud because Rebecca Act 2 almost burst my eardrums as well in 2nd row)
Tumblr media
The Point of No Return
And again, the more he's around Christine, the more destructive it is for him. You're just hurting yourself, king! He was extremely anxious around her, back to his usual route. Rather than the frustration he had before, he had quickly rising anxiety. He clutched his chest during the same line that KJT Phantom had mimicked Christine's movements at his performances. As he reached back for her on the bench, he was shaking and not brave enough to lean closer to her. This proposal he was a spineless disaster. He could barely get near her to put on the ring when he had been so forceful about it the previous performance. It didn't feel inconsistent though. It just seemed like a different branch for his Phantom, an alternate outcome for the same characterization.
Final Lair
SJS Christine was so afraid looking around and clinging to the edge of the boat when she would get taken down to the lair in 'Down Once More'. SEH looked frightened as well, but then in response to the Phantom's words she turned cold. Every performance SEH Christine would plead "잠깐만! 잠깐만! 잠깐만!" (- Hold on, hold on! or Wait, wait!) til he let her go. JDS Phantom was especially childish this performance. Or I guess in a different way? The previous show he had his angry tantrum, this one he was a complete wet mop of a man. When he said his face is what poisoned his love reaching out to her, she rejected him, turning away bitterly. But when she told him she wasn't afraid of his face, she tried to touch him and he gasped and started hyperventilating a little The energy JDS Phantom and HGH Raoul had when arguing though like oooo the girls are fiiiiightiiiing~ It was a little funny Most of his reactions to Christine's rejections like the veil throwing were actually chipping away at him this time instead of building an icy wall. I also think since SEH is the "stronger" more independent Christine these responses were maybe rougher to this more sensitive version of his Phantom When he was on the throne at the end, he reached to touch her face, but stopped and began to stutter out "날...날..시ㅣ험...하지마..." ('Don't test me") trying to stop himself from crying. This performance he opted for one of his occasional line changes - "선택해 - Choose" to "날 선택해 - Choose me!" Tears were pouring from his face and he was pulling at his collar again like he was struggling to breathe while sobbing. The kiss was similar to the one before, but I think he looked sadder When he sang "사랑해 / I love you" the first show, it was so soft you could barely hear it and the end was barely audible. This time he was choking on the word while SEH also struggled not to cry. She tried to reach out to him from the start, but because he was so stuck in his self-hatred and insecurity, they were never given a chance. So this is where they ended up. After Christine and Raoul got into the boat, he picked up the veil smiling before he slowly began to sob intensely into it. He looked like he had completely fallen apart
I think I preferred the October 8th show just because it felt so unique, but I felt so happy I could see Jeon Dong-seok twice (well three times on the trip, but twice as the Phantom) and get such different experiences out of it each time. I'm also really glad he was able to achieve his longtime dream role ❤️ I'd like to hope that in another decade-ish whenever POTO comes back he can return to the role and give us an new version with even more skills he's learned overtime (also because I think he'd be the perfect age then)
I feel like I should now mention they already had the Dracula video ads up in the theater since he made a u-turn back to the Charlotte for the show. He'll be on one of the 3 CDs for the new Dracula cast recording (why couldn't they do this for POTO) So there was double Dong-seok all over the theater. What a nice sight for me 😌
Tumblr media
I will drop promo just because I can! He is now unmasking himself to reveal a pretty face instead of unmasking to reveal uh...well what the Phantom has going on?

Since there's not really official content of his ALW POTO, you can also have a taste of his Y&K Erik (there is also a version of the live cast recording with him as Erik with Kim So-hyun as Christine) Come join me as I pray for him to return to the show for the 10th anniversary in 2025 so I can go see him.

Everything I watch in Jan 2024
I was going to post my annual everything I watched in 2023 post but I feel like I missed my opportunity, so here is my everything I watched in January 2024... (Be Warned there are some spoilers, I do try to mark them throughout the review)
My Lovely Boxer (2023, Kim Min-joo)
Main leads: Lee Sang-yeob, Kim So-hye, Park Ji-hwan, Kim Hyung-mook, Kim Jin-woo, Ha Seung-ri, Chae Won-bin
Country: S. Korea
Run: August 21 to Oct 2, 2023 (KBS2, Monday and Tuesday @21:45 (KST))
Episodes: 12, 70 min
Thoughts: Lee Kwon-sook (Kim So-hye) is a boxer who is forcibly thrown back into the world boxing that she has retired from by a sports agent Kim Tae-young (Lee Sang-yeob). I really liked how they balanced the characters. Lee Kwon-sook is a cheerful girl who is constantly haunted by her past. And she is allowed agency to do what she can do, despite the efforts of others. And the relationship between Lee Kwon-sook and Kim Tae-young, though slightly toxic, works in an odd way. I did have problems with how they reconnected her with her father.I personally wouldn’t have forgiven him. However, I loved the relationship with Han Ah-reum, and just how that story ends. I thought it was done very well. Overall I have really enjoyed this drama. Rating:
Unlock My Boss (2022-2023, Kim Hyung-min)
Main leads: Chae Jong-hyeop, Seo Eun-soo, Park Sung-woong
Country: S. Korea
Run: Dec 7, 2022 to Jan 12, 2023 (ENA, Wednesday and Thursday @21:00 (KST))
Episodes: 12, 60 min
Thoughts: Oh wow, this is more enjoyable than I imagined. Chase Jong-hyeop as Park In-seong is so fun. He is adorable, down to earth but capable. Jun Se-yeon (Seo Eun-soo) was amazing and I loved her complexities as a character. And the trio of Kim Seon-joo (Park Sung-woong), Park In-seong, and Jun Se-yeon, was so fun and I loved the little family they formed. I literally cried so much during this show for no reason. Like the zoom into the phone literally made me sob each time for no reason. Rating: Who knew electronics can have that much range?
Night Has Come (2023, Kang Min-Ji)
Main leads: Lee Jae-In, Kim Woo-Seok, Choi Ye-Bin, Cha Woo-Min, Ahn Ji-Ho, Jung So-Ri
Country: S. Korea
Run: Dec 4,, 2023 ( U+mobiletv)
Episodes: 12, 35 to 40 min
Thoughts: This started off really good. A class gets thrust into a mafia game to the death. You along with the characters are wondering who is the mafia among the students and who is forcing this game. It is really interesting, but the episodes follow the same pattern. The end you find everything out, and it's kind of stupied. They had a classmate who committed sucide due to a badly edited image of herself on a skimply clad woman’s body. Which is yeah bad. Then her parents take revenge on the whole class. They are placed in this mafia simulator to repeat the game over and over again. It ends with Lee Yoon-seo able to remember everything, but still trapped in the simulator. Like where their parents are. People must be concerned right. Rating: Sisphyus boulder, I guess…
The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract (2023-2024, Go Nam-jeong)
Main leads: Lee Se-young, Bae In-hyuk, Joo Hyun-young, Yoo Seon-ho, Jo Bok-rae
Country: S. Korea
Run: Nov 24, 2023 to Jan 6, 2024 (MBC TV Friday and Saturday @21:50 (KST))
Episodes: 12, 70 min
Thoughts: This was a cute drama. It starts off with a cute romance between a progressive woman in Joseon and a sick scholar. However, it quickly becomes a tragedy and she is sent to the year 2023 with her hand maid Sa-wol (Joo Hyun-young). It quickly becomes a fish out of water for Park Yeon-woo (Lee Se-young), but luckly she meets the recacrante of her late husband Kang Tae-ha (Bae In-hyuk) and they make a deal. It is a cute drama and I loved the cast of characters. Yeon-woo is easy to root for. Sa-wol is adorable, and adapts quickly. Kang Tae-ha is prickly but has a heart of gold. It's dramatic and fun. It's nothing special, but oh is it so good. My favorite part is Yeon-woo and Sa-wol’s relationship. Literally there is a scene with those two that reflects a romantic scene in Perfect Marriage Revenage (2023) which I can’t stop thinking about. Overall I just really enjoyed my time. Rating: butterflies everytime I think about you…
Joseon Attorney: A Morality (2023,Choi Jin-young)
Main leads: Woo Do-hwan, Bona, Cha Hak-yeon
Country: S. Korea
Run: March 31 to May 5, 2023 (MBC TV Friday and Saturday @21:50 (KST))
Episodes: 16, 70 min
Thoughts:  This was a lot like Taxi Driver. In the way you have an episodic feel with a charismatic male lead seeking revenge and helping people. I had a lot of fun with this show, and I don’t use the comparison lightly either. I really had fun with it. The romance was okay, but I liked the different stories, and the main revenge plot was easy to follow along with. Woo Do-hwan is a great actor and meant to be a leading man. It's definitely  not my favorite and there are a few things that needed changing but it was fun overall! Rating: Who do you call?... Joseon Attorney!!!
KBS Drama Special 14 (2023, Choi Ja-won, Yun Tae-woo, Cho Il-yeon, Choi Yi-kyung, Wi Jae-hwa, Kwon Oh-joo,Park Eun-seo, Jo Soo-yeong, Kim Ik-hyun)
Main leads: Lee Jae-won, Choi Seong-won, and Kim Kang-hyeon,  Kim Won-hae, Min Ji-ah, Ahn Se-bin and Park Ji-ah, Lee Min-jae, Kim Hyun-soo, and Kang Na-eon,  Moon Woo-jin, Park Seo-kyung, Park Ha-sun, Kim Joo-heon, Kim Do-hoon, Chae Won-bin, Kim Dong-hwi, Jo A-ram, Shim Yi-young, Joo Seok-tae,  Ren, Park Sang-nam, Hong Seung-hee, Hahm Eun-jung,  Kim Kang-min, Yoon San-ha, Baek Sung-hyun
Country: S. Korea
Run: OCT 14 to Dec 16, 2023 (KBS, Saturday 21:50 to 22:50 (KST))
Episodes: 10, 60 to 80 min
Thoughts: This is a yearly anthogolgy series that follows various characters in various time periods with various goals. I thought a lot of them were really cool and interesting. “Love Attack” was by far one of my favorites, but I also really liked “The True Love of Madam” which was shocking for me.  It was also hard to find any subs for “Overlap, Knife, Knife” so I had to rely on visual cues and the small amount of Korean I know. But I thought this was a fun anthrologie series, and the stories are fun and fresh. Rating: I love getting short and quick stories like this, its the reason I love short films so much.
A Good Day to Be a Dog (2023-2024, Baek In-ah)
Main leads: Park Gyu-young, Cha Eun-woo, Lee Hyun-woo
Country: S. Korea
Run: Oct 11, 2023 to Jan 10, 2024 (MBC, Wednesday 21:00 (KST))
Episodes: 14, 70 min
Thoughts: Apparently it is very different from the webtoon ( which I have never read), but I found it entertaining. It is cute and lighthearted. I always like when its past lives, I think it adds a fun element to romances. Though I do think the schedule of the show hindered my enjoyment, because it would be so long between episodes. They also lost me at the end, I can not lie. Rating/Spoiler: Also I would be so angery if I found out my family curse passed down for generations was over a misunderstanding. I would want an apology, reparations, and revenge. On another note, I would also be so pissed if I killed myself to save my servant's baby; then my boyfriend finished off the dying father, then cursed the child and its offspring. I would be pissed, like my scarfice was for not. Go off mountain spirit I guess…
My 20th Twenty (2023, N/A)
Main leads: Choi Yu Ju , Jung Su Bin
Country: S. Korea
Run: April 21 to may 27, 2023 (Wavve, Friday and Saturday)
Episodes: 12, 15 min
Thoughts: This show was good for what it was. It has the vibe of a college student film with a mix of those youtube series made by middle schoolers back in 2009. And I mean that with the highest praise. The sound mixing was off, they had limited cast (background actors is what you are looking for), no interesting lighting (but very well light- i.e the student film vibes), and the actors new to the scene. I loved every motherfucking moment. It was so cheesy, the script was bad, and nothing made sense. But I knew that it was made with passion. Rating: It would be horrifying being 20 forever
Taxi Driver Season 2 (2023, Oh Sang-ho)
Main leads: Lee Je-hoon, Kim Eui-sung, Pyo Ye-jin, Jang Hyuk-jin, Bae Yoo-ram, Shin Jae-ha
Country: S. Korea
Run: Feb 17 to April 15, 2023 (SBS, TV Friday and Saturday @22:00 (KST))
Episodes: 16, 70 min
Thoughts: Back in action the second season is so much fun and entertaining. I actually like it better than the first. And I said this once and I’ll say it again Lee Je-hoon is made to be an action star. He’s as great as Kim Do-gi. I also liked that Ahn Go-eun (Pyo Ye-jin)  had a larger role this season. I also just love the friendship in the Rainbow Taxi service. Just so fun. Rating: imagine being taken down by a taxi service…
Taxi Driver Special (2023, SBS)
Main leads:  Lee Je-hoon, Kim Eui-sung, Pyo Ye-jin, Jang Hyuk-jin, Bae Yoo-ram, Shin Jae-ha
Country: S. Korea
Run: Feb 16 to March 4, 2023 ( KBS)
Episodes: 2, 60 -120 min
Thoughts: This was fun seeing the cast reflect on the episodes and their characters. Its also cool just seeing a reply of everything that happened. You could tell how much Lee Je-hoon loves playing Kim Do-gi. Rating: I am excited for the 3rd season…
Brain Works (2023, Park Kyung-seon)
Main leads: Jung Yong-hwa, Cha Tae-hyun, Kwak Sun-young, Ye Ji-won
Country: S. Korea
Run: Jan 2 to Fe 28, 2023 (KBS2 Monday and Tuesday @21:50 (KST))
Episodes: 16, 75 min
Thoughts:This show is weird. I think most cop shows are weird but this one especially. I did like the bromance in this, between Shin Ha-ru (Jung Yong-hwa) and Geum Myung-se (Ch Tae-hyun). I did think neuroscience was weird and defies logic. The only good thing about it was when they didn’t completely vilify Pyschopaths, because it tends to be more complicated than the mainstream likes to show. It still left a lot to be desired but it was there. Also when he lowkey kidnapped and torture that kid, oh my god, like he was a little punk and deserved to go to trail but my god. Rating: This is lowkey giving Minority Report tbh…
My Cuteness is about to expire!? (2022,  Tanabe Shigenori)
Main leads: Yamada Ryosuke, Yoshine Kyoko
Country: Japan
Run: April 16 to June 11, 2022 (TV Asahi, Saturday 23:30)
Episodes: 9, 23 to 47 min
Thoughts: Maruya is your typical male narcissist who works in sales. He uses his cuteness to stake by in life, to make up for his average skills. One day he is visited by his future self, whom he deems ugly, tells him that his cuteness is going to expire. He decides, after relizing his crush, the only way to prevent this is to date Sanada, a robotic newbie to the sales team. It is cute and Maruya and Sanada are fun as a couple, plus if you have the time you could watch this in a day. Rating: I’m Ichinose calling every single person every 10 seconds sobbing…
My Dearest Pt 1 (2023, Hwang Jin-young)
Main leads: Namkoong Min, Ahn Eun-jin, Lee Hak-joo, Lee Da-in, Kim Yoon-woo, Lee Chung-ah
Country: S. Korea
Run: August 4 to Sept 2, 2023 (MBC TV, Friday and Saturday 21:50 (KST))
Episodes: 10, 60 to 90 min
Thoughts:  I was not expecting to like this more than I did. The angst in every episode is so insane. Episode 10 was actually unbearable. I also want to take a moment and appreciate Yoo Gil-chae (Ahn Eun-jin), she is such a complicated  character. She would do anything for her friends, she is willing to do the things that no other women (noble) are willing to do even during times of war. She will stab the man assualting her friend and cover it up. She would cut the amicable cord, she would stab the mother’s hand. She isn’t pure of heart, she neveer claimed to be. I love her so much. And her relationship with Lee Jang-hyun. The ending of episode 10. I was sobbing. Rating: I am trying to hype myself up to watch the next 11 episodes, people had to wait inbetween…
The Escape of the Seven (2023, Kim Soon-ok)
Main leads: Um Ki-joon, Hwang Jung-eum, Lee Joon, Lee Yu-bi, Shin Eun-kyung, Yoon Jong-hoon, Jo Yoon-hee, Jo Jae-yoon
Country: S. Korea
Run: Sept 15 to Nov 17, 2023 (SBS TV Friday and Saturday 22:00 (KST))
Episodes: 17, 70 to 80 min
Thoughts: This was an insane ride. Literally no one in this likeable except for a few, like I didn’t think Min Do-hyuk (Lee Joon) was as bad as the others but oh lordy. It is so melodramatic, which took me off graud for some reason. Going into it I thought it was going to be a serious thriller, but oh boy was I wrong. It was Makjang. Which is fine, and also coming back in style apparently. I’m sat for season 2, but not with much hope. Rating: I actually don’t know the timeline of any of these events, does it expand years months, idk…
My Demon (2023-2024, Choi Ah-il)
Main leads: Kim Yoo-jung, Song Kang, Lee Sang-yi, Kim Hae-sook
Country: S. Korea
Run: Nov 24, 2023 to Jan 20, 2024 (SBS TV,  Friday and Saturday @22:00 (KST))
Episodes: 16, 70 min
Thoughts: I was excited for this drama. I really liked Doom at Your Service which promised to have a similar vibe. Which it did to an extent. I actually hate Song Kang in romances and only really like him in nonromance shows. However I think he did really well as Jeong Gu-won. I liked the overall Romance in the show. But I did think the revenge plot got uninteresting and confusing after a while. I do like the ending, I was pretty satisfied with where everyone ended up, which has been a long time since I’ve been this satisfied.
Welcome to Samdal-ri (2023-2024, Kwon Hye-joo)
Main leads: Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hye-sun
Country: S. Korea
Run: Dec 2, 2023 ti Jan 21, 2024 (JTBC, Saturday and Sunday 22:30 (KST))
Episodes: 16, 70 min
Thoughts: This was cute and was far above my expectations. I am always uneasy with Ji Chang Wook, I can’t forgive him for the Melting My Heart drama a few years back, but I would do anything for Shin Hye-sun. So I gave this drama a go, and I liked it. I loved the vibes, and I didn’t mind that revenge wasn’t the main plot. It's like the one line “my enemies will take themselves out before you get a chance to swing.” It was heartwarming and I’m glad that Cho Sam-dal was able to find peace in her hometown. I loved the feel of community. I loved all the Friendships. It was very lovely. And I’m happy at the ending. I will also give my entire heart to Cho Hae-dal and Cha Ha-yul. I loved their mother-daughter relationship. I wanted more screen time for both. Rating: I’m glad there is a little piece of heaven…
 Game of Witches ( 2022-2023, Lee Do-Hyun)
Main leads: Jang Seo-Hee, Kim Kyu-Seon, Lee Hyun-Seok, Oh Chang-Suk. Han Ji-Wan, Ban Hyo-Jung
Country: S. Korea
Run: Oct 11, 2022 to April 14, 2023 (MBC, Monday to Friday 19:15 (KST))
Episodes: 119, 25 to 28 min
Thoughts: *Major Spoilers+ Rant ahead.* This show makes me unneccsarly angery. It is a daily drama and a Makjang to boot, so literally put any and all expectations in the gutter. Everything is nonsensical, and drawn out to reach the 119 mark. Storylines get dropped or move way too fast. It has a strange family tree and for a moment every single person was supposbly related. They have so much evidence agsaint the scheming Kang Ji-ho (Oh Chang-suk) and Joo Se-young (Han Ji-wan) but it goes nowhere. Speaking of Kang Ji-ho, he was just straight up dispicable. I would say more than Se-ypung of Ma Hyun-Deok (Ban Hyo-Jung). He was a terrible partner and father from the start. He literally tossed his entire family out the door for Se-young and eventual power. He only paid attention to his daughter Kang Han-Byeol (Kwon Dan-A) when she was able to benefit him. He was at best neglectful and at worst abusive towards her. Han-byeol was the true victim. Hye-soo (Kim Kyu-Seon) actually had a motive in the beginning. She was just pathetic and weak but once she returned they weirdly sidelined her. Also I don’t know why Kang Ji-ho never got prosecuted for trying to kill Hye-soo. Like I find that to be one of his more egregious crimes. Like that is the mother of your child. You gave your child so much trauma, for what? Power? Like when they tried to redeem him at the end I was just fed up. You can’t make hime out to be the big bad guy for 118 episodes, and then have him do one good thing. He is a bad father, and when Han Byeol grows up she will resent him. Rating: Fuck this show, like actually.
My Dearest Part 2(2023, Hwang Jin-young)
Main leads: Namkoong Min, Ahn Eun-jin, Lee Hak-joo, Lee Da-in, Kim Yoon-woo, Lee Chung-ah
Country: S. Korea
Run: Oct 13 to Nov 18, 2023 (MBC TV, Friday and Saturday 21:50 (KST))
Episodes: 11, 60 to 90 min
Thoughts: More devastating than the first part. Gil-chae is probably my favorite character I have watched. Her journey in this part is absolutely devastating but she survives. I enjoyed the refutement from blame, that people who experienced the worst horrors known are somehow blamed. Gil Chae pushes back on this sentiment herself. This entire time I just wanted Jang-hyun and Gil Chea together. Which took the entire part for them to finally be happy. I do think the ending was kind of wobbly, and they only really needed 10  episodes not the 11. But who am I to say? Anyways I enjoyed the show overall. Rating: My Dear Husband…
Kokdu: Season of Diety (2023, Kang Yi-heon, Heo Jun-woo)
Main leads: Kim Jung-hyun, Im Soo-hyang, Kim Da-som, Ahn Woo-yeon, Kim In-kwon, Cha Chung-hwa
Country: S. Korea
Run: Jan 27 to March 24, 2023 (MBC TV Fridays and Saturdays @21:50 (KST))
Episodes: 16, 70 min
Thoughts: You must be wondering why did you watch this? It only has bad reviews- which is a lie, it is actually a polarizing show. And I can understand. If you go into this show with the lowest expectations imaginable and it might be fun. The scenery is pretty and they make decent use of it. Main Romance is actually not good, I felt no chemistry between Kim Jung-Hyun and Im Soo-hyang. I did like the romance between Tae Jeong-won (Kim Da-som) and Han Cheol (Ahn Woo-yeon) other than that The show overall fell flat. I did like the scenery and the setting. I thought it was fun. Also episode 16 was the most enjoyable episode, which is good for an ending. Rating: I would skip…
I am currently watching:
Marry My Husband
Doctor Slump
Because of Love
Do You Like Brahms?

2022 kdrama/movie roundup!
It was a tough year for keeping up with anything because life, toddler, etc, but here are the things I watched, in part or whole, that I remembered. Hot Takes Incoming!
Sell Your Haunted House - Jang Nara in boots. Kang Mal-geum in dark lipstick. Touching, gay, many mother issues. The girls were fantastic. The boys weren't bad.
25 21 - I was dropped back into the 90s. Surprisingly, I didn't hate it. The girls were fantastic. Na Hee-do was correct to dump Baek Yi-jin. Moon Ji-woong, perfect boy. Ji Seung-wan for PRESIDENT!
Why Her? - Someone thought it'd be a great idea to throw Seo Hyun-jin's ex-client (shudder) current-student (TRIPLE SHUDDER) Hwang In-yeop into the romance mix when billionaire CHOI YOUNG-JOON and Crown Prince Bae In-hyuk were already there. And they thought it'd be funny if Hwang In-yeop won. NO.
Eve - The superior commentary this year on the horrors of capitalism. It ends with reparations (Park Byung-eun hands over his entire empire to Seo Yeji, who promptly divests it), rich people dying in horrible ways and Seo Yeji doing the tango. Were the makjang knobs dialled up so high they're broken? Yes. Was it fun? YES, because I got to see Park Byung-eun's range, which includes Pained Hottie, and Seo Yeji running men's feet over in cars wearing couture. We can ask for no more.
Juvenile Justice - No one asked "What happens if we take three of the most charismatic working actors in Korean entertainment today and squeezed the life out of them?" But someone answered anyway.
My Liberation Notes - Lee El, a revelation. Mr Gu, a revelation when he started talking, and not the good kind.
Grid - Kim Mu-yeol. Kim Ah-joong and Jang So-yeon had a great year. I didn't understand the time thing at all. This is a me problem, but probably the only time I'll face it this year. Right? RIGHT?
Bloody Heart - Jang Hyuk has done nothing wrong, ever. The girls were fantastic. Lee Joon, I heard your script was meant for Lee Joon-hyuk. Sorry.
Pachinko - The girls were fantastic. Kim Min-ha, baby, you're gorgeous. JUNG EUN-CHAE was everything. Sorry to Lee Min-ho, who had the tough double role of acting as Ko Hansu and also like he belonged to this cast of greats.
Our Blues - Great acting, but my own blues were sufficient for me. The girls were fantastic. Unwanted to wanted pregnancy storyline: no thanks. This is a me problem, but probably the only time I'll face it this year. Right? RIGHT?
Extraordinary Attorney Woo - 75% love; 25% NOT THIS AGAIN.
Little Women - The girls were fantastic. I ran out of air by this point in the year. I'll come back for you, gothic interior design, poison orchids, and Song Joong-ki in the best role he's played all year!
Through the Darkness - Almost too many twirling moustache psychos and dead girls. I did it for Kim Nam-gil because he's so pretty in this and in case it wasn't abundantly clear by now, I don't think with my brain. The lone living girl - Kim So-jin - was fantastic. Jin Seon-kyu, well-adjusted stealth hottie!
Reborn Rich - Samsung owes Lee Sung-min its entire semiconductor business as @rain-hat said. Lee Sung-min owes me reparations for making me watch this show for him primarily (secondarily Park Hyuk-kwon, Kim Shin-rok, Park Ji-hyun and Kim Nam-hee for their acting; Kim Young-jae because he is THE DILF). I'm manifesting NO TIMESLIPS in 2023 dramas.
Under the Queen's Umbrella - Kim Hye-soo pushing up her hanbok sleeves to carry babies and do embroidery should be projected onto my tombstone unto eternity. The girls were fantastic. And I know this is unusual, so bear with me, but: the boys? FANTASTIC ALSO.
Movies:
Vikram - Fahaadh Faasil, my thoughts are nasty and you don't want to hear them. The girls might have been fantastic had they been permitted to live and not be dumdums. That was never going to happen, of course. There was torture and a baby in significant peril, but it was also the most fun I'd had in a while. I should get my head checked.
Ponniyin Selvan - The sheer scale of work and sweat that has gone into the enterprise of making Vikram seem taller than Trisha Krishnan for the last twenty years! Iconic. The girls were fantastic.
The Naked Kitchen - This is sold as a story of a woman choosing between two men. That is a lie. It's about a man coming to terms with his marriage drifting into polyamory, and enjoying it. Shin Min-ah and Ju Ji-hoon fuck in a museum, which was also weirdly sweet.
Asura City of Madness - AHJUSSHIS WHY. Hwang Jung-min's shirttails worked very hard in 2012. Jung Woo-sung ate glass and has pathological issues about being as handsome as he is. We love him for it. We did not love this.
Hunt - Love is your bestie learning how to write and direct just to write and direct you in the role of a lifetime for you, personally. I don't know if that's what happened here, but that's what love is. And chemistry is whatever these two guys have in this completely ordinary movie that did not give any feelings. Hwang Jung-min, pussy OUT.
Decision to Leave - A well-deserved love letter to Tang Wei, just beautifully shot, gorgeous.
Il Mare - Absolutely lovely little film, reliant almost entirely on the star power of two actors who are so charismatic they don't need to meet in the movie to convince you of their romance.
Laal Singh Chaddha - There was a very beautiful wedding at the end. Aamir Khan's face must hurt.
Darlings - A movie that appreciated and respected noted hottie Shefali Shah.

📰 Focus People: Gucci Global Ambassador, Actress Park Gyuyoung... A Chameleon Who Blends into Characters
Tumblr media
[Sisun News - Reporter Yang Wonmin] Actress Park Gyuyoung and the 'face genius' Cha Eunwoo's drama 'A Good Day to be a Dog' continues to be a hit worldwide. After ranking number one on Korea's Netflix TV series, it consistently remains within the top three, and it also ranked first in drama on Japan's OTT platform U-NEXT. Additionally, on the global OTT platform Rakuten Viki, it debuted in first place in 93 countries including the United States, Brazil, and India during its opening week, showcasing the prestige of K-dramas.
Park Gyuyoung, who has become a trendsetting actress, did not always dream of acting. She attended Busan Foreign Language High School and then entered Yonsei University, majoring in Clothing and Textiles. Park's foray into the entertainment industry came about by chance. While at university, she modelled for the cover of "College Tomorrow," and JYP Entertainment approached her with a casting offer after seeing her work. Although such a sudden career change could have been met with parental opposition, she instead received their strong support and embarked on this path.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later, Park Gyuyoung made her debut as the leading lady in the music video for singer Jo Kwon's song "Crosswalk," garnering attention. Even before the music video's release, there was curiosity about who would be the female lead opposite EXO's Suho, whose participation was already known. Park Gyuyoung, who was an actor trainee at JYP Entertainment at the time, left a strong impression with her calm and poignant portrayal of a breakup, marked by her characteristically soft ambiance.
After a series of special appearances and minor roles, Park Gyuyoung began taking on main and supporting roles. She built her recognition through web dramas and then through appearances in tvN's "Bring It On Ghost," JTBC's "Just Between Lovers," "The Third Charm," and SBS's "Nokdu Flower." She then received acclaim for her acting skills in the 2020 tvN drama "It's Okay to Not Be Okay," where she played the role of a psychiatric nurse named Nam Juri.
Tumblr media
In 2021, she starred as the protagonist 'Kim Dali' in KBS2's "Dali and Gamjatang." With her confirmed appearance in "Dali and Gamjatang" alongside actor Kim Minjae, many people anticipated 'the chemistry of the most attention-grabbing trending actors,' and it turned out to be a great success. The drama helped to revive KBS's Wednesday-Thursday slot with an average viewership in the 5% range and concluded on a high note. At the end of that year, Park Gyuyoung received the Best New Actress award at the KBS Drama Awards, along with the Best Couple Award with Kim Minjae.
Tumblr media
Park Gyuyoung has notably appeared in many Netflix dramas, to the extent that she's been dubbed 'Netflix's daughter' due to her continuous presence in Netflix series. She captivated a global audience with her role as Yoon Jisoo, wielding a baseball bat against monsters in "Sweet Home," and took on a solo lead role in "Celebrity." With her expected appearance in "Squid Game" Season 2, Park Gyuyoung has firmly established herself as one of Netflix's beloved actors.
Tumblr media
Recently, there has been another piece of good news for Park Gyuyoung. In September, she was selected as a global ambassador for the Italian luxury brand Gucci. Her popularity, bolstered by consecutive hits on Netflix, led to Gucci choosing to partner with her. Park expressed her honour at being a global ambassador for Gucci, hoping to showcase her individuality, passion, and confidence through various activities with the brand.
Tumblr media
The drama "A Good Day to be a Dog" in which Park is currently starring is based on a webtoon that has enjoyed immense popularity and support, especially among teenage and twenty-something women, and has been published as a book series. Authored by Lee Hye, a popular webtoon creator, "A Good Day to be a Dog" is her third work and has been a huge success in the webtoon community due to its solid storyline built from previous experiences and fantasy elements. The news of the drama adaptation piqued interest in casting, and with the confirmation of Park Gyuyoung, Cha Eunwoo, and Lee Hyunwoo as the leads, expectations were high even before its broadcast due to the 'perfect casting' narrative.
Tumblr media
Park Gyuyoung is an actress who shows different atmospheres and images in each work, seamlessly blending into her roles. Known for her intelligence as well, she is quickly learning and steadily growing. With a sense of responsibility to not let down the directors and production crew she works with, there's anticipation for what new facets Park Gyuyoung will show in future works.

Tumblr media
This show is framed as a big corporate drama, but it's really about the relationships between three amazing women. I liked pretty much all of it. I particularly liked how the history between these women is given more weight than the romances.
My only complaint is that there aren't enough shows like this out there.
The lens the show uses for these characters is very matter-of-fact. If this were a Hollywood production, I'd have expected some kind of girl-boss power fantasy. The show just puts the women in charge, flaws and all, and trusts the writing and acting to carry the audience through. It does all of this remarkably well.
I had trouble with the first episode, as it kind of throws a curveball and puts you into the corporate / political deep end, but once the show gets going in episode two, it doesn't stop.
The Performances
Im Soo-jung as Bae Ta-mi (Tammy). Soo-jung does a great job as (pretty much) the main character and the center of the drama. I didn't always care about the corporate nonsense being thrown around by the script, but I never felt bored watching Bae Ta-mi. You get to see the whole range from charming and feisty, to exhausted, sad, needy/anxious, and even happy. Really fun to watch.
Lee Da-hee as Cha Hyeon (Scarlet). This was one of the standout performances. Cha Hyeon was the most active of the characters and all of the best moments came from watching her interactions with the other characters. Lee Da-hee was having fun with this role, and that showed through the entire performance.
Jeon Hye-jin as Song Ga-kyeong. The most subdued of the three leads. The writers chose to make this character a bit of an enigma. Jeon Hye-jin had a tough job as she had to have good chemistry with the other leads, while having the least amount of good character interaction, and she had to still seem believable. It took almost the entire series for me to really understand the character, but Jeon Hye-jin had enough charisma to keep me interested throughout.
Ye Soo-jung as Jang Hee-eun. The big villain of the series and one of the more interesting performances. Ye Soo-jung did a great job playing a harmless old lady (when it helped her get what she wanted) while switching on a dime to a menacing abusive terror. Her motives were relatively simple, but the character never felt like a cardboard cutout. Really interesting to watch and an amazing change from her role in Do You Like Brahms.
Everyone else! This was a true ensemble show and all of the characters brought something fun to the show, even that annoying two-timing ex (Pyo Joon-soo). Standouts: Kwon Hae-hyo as CEO "Brian", Jang Ki-yong as Park Morgan, Lee Jae-wook as Seol Ji-hwan (especially funny in the fake drama), and Oh Ah-yeon as "Ellie".
TL; DR:
Smartly written with very good performances from the leads. It's refreshing to see a show that has women in charge without pandering or falling into harmful stereotypes. The portrayal of the relationships between these three women blew me away.

Note
Speaking of idols turned actors. What are your favourite idol turn actors? Or rank them on acting ability. I’ve always thought Suzy was the only one I liked but after The Red Sleeve I think I’d add Junho. Taceyeon, I like him but I’m not a fan of some of the projects he picks. Like I will watch but I won’t rewatch a lot of them lol.
If we are gonna really old school, Eric, Yoon Eun Hye, Yoon Jye Sang and Rain.
Somewhat newer, Park Hyung Sik, Kwon Yuri, Junho, Uee.
I think both Suzy and Taec have very narrow ranges but tend to smartly pick roles within them for the most part and so do well and I enjoy watching them on screen.

kpopfcs masterlist of woman faceclaims . . .
following my recent inspiration to make a few masterlists, i welcome you to one which includes 150 woman faceclaims between the ages of 30 to 39 at the time of making this post. all of these women are korean to not complicate anything, and it includes idols, actors, etc. i’m hoping this will encourage the rpc to step out of the comfort zone and explore the use of a wider range of faceclaims, especially those that are unknown and don’t work in western media. some may not have resources. please reblog this to spread the words, and like this if you found it useful! masterlist part 1 of many.

Jinwook Lee, drinking blood and being a knight
Tumblr media
'Invincible' actor Lee Jin-wook drank Jin-young Jeong's blood and was resurrected.
The battle between Ok Eul-tae (Lee Joon) and Dan Hwa (Lee Jin-wook) was depicted in the tvN Saturday drama 'Immortal', which was broadcast on the afternoon of the 25th.
On this day, Min Sang-woon (Kwon Nara) revealed that when some of her memories came back to her, she saw Jade Eul-tae and Dan-hwal together. Dan-hwal wondered, "Are you saying you'll still be by my side?", but Min Sang-woon showed firmness, saying, "It doesn't matter anymore." Dan-hwal showed Min Sang-un the mountain 600 years ago and said his last goodbye.
Min Sang-woon said, "I brought you here because you want me to see that mountain and get your memories back. I want you and Ok Eul-tae to die?" I dismissed it saying not to dry it. Min Sang-woon said, "It's not just something I like. It just doesn't have to be without you by my side. When you disappear, it's like half of my body disappears. It's so scary and scary."
However, Min Sang-woon later found the mountain on his own feet again. Min Sang-woon made an extreme choice and threatened that he would have to take out his soul if he did not want to let him die, but Dan-hwal said, "You said that I must not die. Half of my body seems to disappear. But I am not. Not half, but all. It feels like it's going to disappear. Finding you was all I had in my life."
Min Si-ho (Gong Seung-yeon) was startled to hear this. Min Si-ho said, "Did we secretly decide which of the two will die? Don't try to die, we should think about living together. Doyun (Kim Woo-seok) goes to school and sees me having a child. Don't say that you're going to die for us anymore. Because I don't want to see my family die. Please, let's live together."
Dan-hwal headed to the well where Ok Eul-tae was waiting for them with Kwon Ho-yeol (Jung Jin-young), saying that he would eventually find a way to live for both Min Si-ho and Nam Do-yun. This was a plan to imprison Ok Eul-tae in a well by injecting the poison of Duuk-sini by Min Sang-woon taking advantage of the time that Dan-hwal would lose Ok Eul-tae's power, and Kwon Ho-yeol would inflict fatal wounds with his gun.
However, it was after Kwon Ho-yeol found out through Ok Eul-tae that the enemy who killed his father and sister was Danhwal. Contrary to the original plan, Ho-yeol Kwon shot Ok Eul-tae's heart with a gun and stabbed the fallen single arrow to kill both of them at the same time, and Min Sang-woon screamed, "What are you doing?"
Kwon Ho-yeol finally put down his sword at the last moment, but this was enough time for Ok Eul-tae to recover after drinking Dan-hwal's blood. Ok Eul-tae got up again and stabbed Kwon Ho-yeol deeply with a knife, and Kwon Ho-yeol hugged Ok Eul-tae and helped Min Sang-woon escape. After that, Ok Eul-tae threw the dagger into the well and followed Min Sang-woon.
Just before his death, Ho-yeol Kwon squeezed his last strength and spoke to Danhwal in the well. Kwon Ho-yeol said, "I know you don't eat human blood, but please eat it this time. Because this is the only way to defeat Ok Eul-tae." ate and got up. Then, Hye-seok (Park Myung-shin)'s last prophecy, "a demon that grew up eating his father's blood rises from a black hole," rang out, heralding the resurrection of Danhwa.

I totally see Wonwoo fanboying over his favorite author of his favorite books. I don’t see him going nuts over idols too much but because he has this love for reading, I thought it’d make more sense.

Wonwoo and Mingyu sat at a coffee shop, enjoying one of their rare days off. The two talked about life, how they could make their music better and song ideas for the hip hop team. As they were leaving, a flyer caught Wonwoo’s eye.

Wonwoo blinked as he read the flyer over again to make sure he wasn’t dreaming before texting Seungcheol to ensure that they had the weekend free.
Tami Kwon had been his favourite authors since the release of her first book, “A Summers Love’ it was about a girl who was a classical music artist and an underground rapper who met on the streets and fell in love. It was a complex love story but her words kept pulling him into the book more and more. The last book, ‘Winter Shadows’ was released a year and a half ago and it was left as a cliffhanger that left all her readers wanting more.
He smiled softly to himself as he and Mingyu headed back to the dorm. The flyer was correct, this was definitely an event he didn’t want to miss.
The weekend came quickly for Wonwoo and by 10am, he was out the door. What he didn’t realize was that they first 200 people were based on a number system so he had gone early to get a number but was told that all he had to do was show up before 2pm to receive his special copy of the book.
Seeing that he had a few hours to kill, he decided to go to a cafe nearby and get a coffee and reread the books he had brought with him. The cafe he had chosen was packed and had very limited seating left. He saw a table that sat four people occupied by a girl and her books and he took his chances.
“Excuse me” his deep voice rang in her ears and she looked up taking out her earphones.
“Hi” she said wide eyed. “Can I help you?”
“I was wondering if this seat was taken” he motioned to the empty seat opposite of her. “The cafes kind of full so..”
“Oh no no of course not!” she said moving some of her things to make room for him, “Feel free”
“Thank you” he said, “I’ll be right back…” he said going to order his drank but thought, “Can I get you another coffee? For letting me sit here and all…”
The girl thought for a moment and nodded her head, “A Caramel Macchiato would be great” she said smiling and Wonwoo nodded his head.
Not too long later, he came back with both their drinks.
“Thank you” she said grabbing the cup and taking a big gulp. “I’m Hye-Ri by the way”
“Wonwoo” he replied taking a seat, noting the books are her table, “Do you read a lot?”
She nodded her head almost embarrassingly, “I love reading, it’s my favorite past time.” she looked at the stack of books he had with him.
“You’re a Tami Kwon fan?”  Hye-ri asked, “She’s doing a book signing today right?”
Wonwoo nodded, “Her writing is incredible and she always leaves her reading wanting more…she’s been my favorite author even before her Seasons series. Are you a fan of her as well?”
Hye-ri shrugged a little bit, “Something like that….” she leaned forward, “What do you like about her books?”
Wonwoo gave her his heartfelt answer and the two started discussing more of Tami Kwons books. What Wonwoo didn’t know was that he would soon be in for a surprise.
It was quarter to 2 when an alarm went off.
Hye-ri quickly looked down at her phone, “Oh goodness, I can’t believe we’ve been talking for so long!” she started packing her stuff, “I have to get to a meeting ASAP” she smiled at Wonwoo who smiled back nodding.
“It was nice to meet you.” he said as he helped her stack up her books and handed them to her.
“Kumawo” she said bowing slightly, “It was nice talking to you too” she said smiling, “I’m sure we’ll meet again” she giggled tilting her head to the side before running out the door leaving Wonwoo sitting there pondering over what she said, how did she know?
He looked down at his watch and realized he should get going as well if he wanted to be one of the first people to meet Tami.
Deep down, he was shaking with excitement though on the outside, he was totally calm and cool. Few fans recognized him as he waited in line, he waved at a few of them but his mind was more focused on the moment he was going to meet Tami, his mind also drifted to Hye-ri who he spent a good few hours talking about books with at the coffee shop.
What had she meant by saying that they’d meet again?
His thoughts were interrupted by someone tapping his arm.
“Excuse me, are you Wonwoo?” the girl asked.
Wonwoo nodded and the girl handed him a book, “Here’s your special cover copy. Tami will be starting her book signing soon.”
Wonwoo thanked the girl and proceeded to look through the book. He didn’t want to read it yet because he wanted to do it in peace and quiet.
As the line moved, Wonwoo got more anxious. This was the first time that Tami Kwon was holding a book signing ever! And there were rumors that the reason she was holding this book signing was because she was going to retire.  Of course this was only a rumor but no one knew how old she really was either, there were no pictures of her or any information except that she was Korean-American and based in Los Angeles.
As he got closer, he managed to catch a glimpse of the front and his eyes widened in disbelief. It was Hye-ri, sitting at the signing desk.
Wait, was Hye-ri, Tami Kwon? He brain hurt at that moment but shook it off as  it was his turn to approach her.
“Annyeong” Tami/Hye-ri said with a smile, “And what’s your name?” she pretended not to know.
“J-Jeon Wonwoo” he said handing her his book for her to sign.
“Ah, Wonwoo. That’s a nice name, are you a big fan?”
Wonwoo nodded enthusiastically still in shock.
Tami/Hye-ri signed his book and handed it back to him, not before slipping something into the cover.
“It was nice meeting you” she smiled, “I hope you can make the reception tonight!”
Wonwoo opened his book and saw 2 passes to the after book signing reception along with a note that read.
Jeon Wonwoo, rapper of Seventeen with the deepest voice. It was really nice meeting you today. I hope we can chat again soon. - Hye-ri Tami Kwon
Wonwoo had gone to the reception that night, dragging Mingyu with him with the promise of free food. He was still in disbelief that the girl he had coffee with was actually his favorite author.
He had found out from her that night that she indeed was going to retire. Retire her alias Tami Kwon anyways, she was going to continue writing books but under her real name, Kwon Hye-ri but focus more on the Korean market. What he also realized was that he had a slight crush on her just after a few hours of talking to her. Though, he didn’t admit it that night.
What he also couldn’t believe was four months down the road, he found himself at the same cafe, at the same table with the same person but this time, with the help of his members, he was able to do something he had wanted to do a long time ago.
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
Two years later, a news article popped up on one of Korea’s gossip magazines.
Jeon Wonwoo of Seventeen and author Kwon Hye-ri were seen strolling around Gangnam after the latest release of her book, ‘Coffee Shop Love’ as previously reported, the two have been going out for almost two years now though, they were able to keep it hidden from the public for most of the two years.
Both Wonwoo’s agency, Pledis and Hye-ri’s publisher have confirmed that the two are seeing eachother but out of respect for their private lives, did not comment further, thought Kim Mingyu, bandmate and lablemate of Wonwoo may have hinted something regarding wedding bells in the near future during their interview with Arirang last week.
Keep posted for updates!
