KlaineSecretSanta - Once Upon a December [1/10]
Tumblr media
Welcome to my @klainesecretsanta2024 fic for the wonderful @little-escapist!
Your story 'Turn Into A Pose' is one of my all-time favorites, and I adore the music you used in it. Some of the songs were new to me, but they’ve since become part of my playlists! I hope this little story brings you some of the joy that your writing has always brought to me.
Your wish list was so inspiring that it inspired a multichapter fic featuring some of the themes you suggested: fan and celebrity dynamics, fake dating, a sprinkle of angst, and appearances from Mercedes and Cooper. I had so much fun weaving these elements together, and I hope it’s everything you were hoping for!
This story is my love letter to Christmas, to classic rom-coms and Hallmark movies. After the rough few weeks many of us have had, I hope it can bring some sweetness, light, and warmth to your holiday season.
Happy Holidays! ________________
Rating: Mature
Archive Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationship: Blaine Anderson/Kurt Hummel
Characters: Kurt Hummel, Blaine Anderson, Mercedes Jones, Burt Hummel, Carole Hudson-Hummel, Cooper Anderson, Pam Anderson
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Famous Kurt Hummel, Bookstore Owner Blaine Anderson, Fake/Pretend Relationship, Friends to Lovers, Mutual Pining, Christmas, holiday romance
Summary:
Kurt Hummel, celebrated Broadway and film star, is used to living in the spotlight - but his recent breakup has left his reputation in shambles and his heart in pieces. Hoping to escape the chaos, he retreats to his parent's home in Ohio for a quiet vacation away from the cameras. Blaine Anderson, owner of a struggling independent bookstore, is barely keeping his beloved store afloat. With finances looking grim, he's desperate for a Christmas miracle to save his dream. When fate throws them back together after years apart, a publicity stunt seems like the perfect solution to both their problems. What could possibly go wrong?

Blaine-friendly Kurtbastian Fic Recs
Putting a list together for @fallevs, but I hope this will be useful for anyone who wants to dip their toes into Kurtbastian fanfiction but doesn't want to read anything anti-Blaine! Everything included in this list will either not include Blaine at all, or if he is in the fic, it will be neutral or friendly toward him.
I've tried to include a wide range of words counts as well, so that you can start with something short and sweet or dive into something big, whatever you feel like. If anyone else has some recommendations to add, please feel free to reblog this list and add more!
Europe Is Our Playground by @glitterdammerung - 53,430 words
Summary: Eight years and half the world away from home, a chance encounter in a Paris club leads Kurt and Sebastian - each running from the ghosts of their pasts - into the diversion of chasing each other across Europe.
(Let's give them) Something to talk about by MemeKonGlee - 20,529 words
Summary: “I need you to—” “I heard you the first time,” Kurt interrupts, putting his fork and knife down on his plate and pushing his half-finished pancakes aside. “What I meant was: what the hell?” He points towards the neglected pancakes, trying to stall in the face of Kurt’s reaction. “Are you sure you don’t wanna finish that first?” The look in Kurt's eyes tells him in no uncertain terms that no, he doesn't want to finish his pancakes, Jesus. And so Sebastian has no option but to take a deep breath in, exhale slowly through his mouth and just
 get on with it, internally cringing at how unbelievably ridiculous it all sounds when he puts it in words, all out there for the world (and more importantly, Kurt fucking Hummel) to judge. It all boils down to: I fucked up and I'm too proud to deal with it the mature way.
Safe Mode by flipmeforward - 18,118 words
Summary: An AU in which Kurt and Sebastian never met in high school. Instead, they meet at &brave--an up-and-coming online fashion company where Kurt is the new assistant slash blogger (one day he will figure out a better title), and Sebastian is the less than pleasant tech support guy. Kurt does his best to avoid Sebastian and his rude attitude at all possible costs, but it turns out that technology is not his friend. It also turns out that Sebastian might maybe possibly be (okay, probably is) more than just an annoying coworker.
Come On And Mess Me Up by @pouralittlewater - 215,339 words
Summary: “It’s like...When Harry Met Sally,” Santana told him. “No. That was me and Blaine.” “How? You literally got together in months. You and Sebastian have been skirting the issue for years. This whole “will they, won’t they” thing is getting old.” Or, when Sebastian enrolls in McKinley High and joins Glee right before the duet competition. What Kurt thinks could be the start to a great friendship in gay camaraderie quickly explodes in his face as he realizes being around Sebastian makes him want to set the other boy on fire. However, over time, that feeling dissipates. Even without the title of friendship, the two become ingrained in each other's lives in a way neither ever expected to.
Thunderbolts & Lightning by @alphabees-writes - 1,854 words
Summary: Sebastian has a plan. It goes wrong, and then right, and then wrong again.
tension bars by @cryscendo - 824 words
Summary: Prompt by backslashdelta: kurt, sports!au (gymnastics), exes, “sometimes, i sit in bed and wonder what would happen if things were different.”
I Want The World To See You'll Be With Me by @backslashdelta (me!) - 2,405 words
Summary: Kurt and Sebastian attend a Christmas party, and Sebastian has a special surprise for Kurt afterward.
Dessert by @nalasan - 1,175 words
Summary: “Oh my God,” Sebastian says, staring at the plate in front of him. “We have to break up.” Kurt, who has just walked into their living room and is still in his winter coat, raises his eyebrow quizzically; his expression more bemused than worried, “And why is that?” “Just look at that,” Sebastian replies, gesturing at the table in front of him like he is seeing it for the first time: the white tablecloth, the candles in their silver candleholders, the white roses in their vase in the middle of the table, and the dinner Sebastian has been preparing since he came home three hours ago.
And Why Is That? by @20xbetterthanu - 41,321 words
Summary: "I love you, and I hate myself for that." "And why is that?" Love hurts.
Note from me: this fic is definitely not anti-Blaine, however it does heavily involve Blaine and he is Not having a good time, so I maybe wouldn't recommend it if you want to avoid him (and the other boys!) being sad.
A Change In The Weather by cacophonylights - 209,414 words
Summary: The summer before college Kurt is shocked when Sebastian comes to him with a timely offer he can’t refuse.  He’ll get something he needs to realize his dreams, but in return he has to play the role of Sebastian’s boyfriend for the summer.  Neither of them know just how much their worlds are about to change. For a GKM prompt.
Note from me: this fic COULD be considered anti-Blaine, but I don't personally consider it to be; it maybe doesn't paint him in the most positive light, but I think it's still neutral enough to be on this list, and it's essentially required reading at this point! Also, it is famously unfinished, but there are a couple fan sequels: ACITW AU by @lady-divine-writes A Drop In The Ocean by @daftydraw and jwmelmoth The ACITW link above is for livejournal, but you can also find the original fic on AO3 in two parts here and here.

"Taking the Plunge" (Rated M)
On their first day in Vail, on the last-minute vacation of a lifetime, Blaine has come up with a surprise for his husband that's equal parts horrifying and confusing. (1461 words)
Read on AO3.
"Tell me why..."
"Ain't nothin' but a heartache..."
"Stop that," Kurt snaps.
"Oh, uh..." Blaine bites his lips together, stifling a giggle. But more importantly, stifling the next verse of the song. "Sorry."
Kurt breathes in, cold air shooting straight to his lungs and freezing them solid. 'This is it,' he thinks, shivering so hard his body vibrates, scooting him a foot to the left against his will. 'This is how I die. I become a human popsicle. Maybe they can preserve me, revive me in the future. God...' He glances up at the dreary sky, his view obscured by his bangs, holding their height remarkably well against the blistering breeze. 'I hope my hair keeps up.'
When they had arrived in Vail and checked in, Kurt immediately threw on his swimsuit at Blaine's request. Personally, he'd been excited to get the debauchery started! It had been too long since they'd taken a proper vacation. Yes, they live alone together and can have sex freely on every piece of furniture they own. But there was something about taking their carnal escapades to a different locale that got Kurt's blood pumping.
What can he say? He loves to travel.
After Kurt suited up, Blaine tossed him his parka and boots, then ushered his husband past the cozy lodge, with its heated mineral spring pools and five-star restaurant, to this foreboding body of black, ice-filled water. They'd stopped at the banks, joining a swimsuit-clad group already gathered and intent on jumping in. Kurt thought Blaine had dragged him there for a laugh - watch the tourists freeze their asses off before they themselves retreated to the soothing waters inside.
It horrified Kurt to no end that Blaine looked eager to take the plunge, too.
When they had planned this vacation together on their sofa in Manhattan, Blaine made no mention of participating in the Arctic Dip. But that must have been his plan all along.
Surprise!
Kurt didn't think he could find a place colder than Ohio in December.
Staring into the water in front of him, ice bobbing at the surface, he knows he's about to be proven wrong.
Everything from his nuts to his nose shrivels at the thought.
"Explain to me again," Kurt starts over, choosing his words carefully so as not to stumble upon the lyrics of another catchy boy-band earworm, "why we're about to do this."
Blaine claps his hands together, rubbing them hard to warm them, and beams ear to ear. "Because it's exhilarating!"
"Your definition of exhilarating and my definition of exhilarating are vastly different then." Kurt pulls his parka tighter around him, attempting to trap whatever heat he has left underneath. It pains him to do it, though. He is certain he has pulled most of the seams loose by now.
A group of older, less dressed gentlemen stroll by as if it's a sunny spring day and not 80 degrees below, laughing at their own jokes and nodding at Kurt and Blaine as they pass. Blaine politely adverts his eyes.
"At least we're wearing bathing suits," he kids.
"Speedos. Which you had me pack under false pretenses."
"No! No false pretenses!" Blaine pleads, hoping his plans haven't lost him access to his husband in a Speedo for the rest of their trip. "They're for the jacuzzi in our suite. I swear."
"Which we haven't even seen yet! You dragged us straight here!"
"We want to take the plunge with everyone else! Before the ice melts!"
"Do we, though?" Kurt whines.
"Yes! This is the highlight of this resort! That's why I chose it! I've been looking forward to this!"
Kurt scowls. "O-kay. If you want to do this, fine. But why can't I wait on the sidelines with a sherry and a smile?"
"Because it's a bucket list item. And we do bucket list stuff together."
"But it's on your bucket list. Not mine. Nowhere on my bucket list does it say freeze my balls off!"
"I was hoping you'd do this with me as a favor? Be supportive of my eccentricities?"
Kurt tilts his head at Blaine, carefully examining his suddenly sullen spouse. "Why do you sound embarrassed about that?"
"Because it's..." Blaine chews his lower lip, trying to avoid the inevitable reveal. But he can't. He can't put this confession off any longer. "It's a... mid-life... bucket list item."
Kurt turns fully towards his husband, eyebrow arcing sharply. "You have your bucket list divided into age groups?"
"More like milestones."
"And you can't just dye your hair blond and buy a Ferrari like everyone else?"
"You mean like my dad? And my brother? Who got it into their heads that married life was holding them back, so they messed up the best things that ever happened to them?"
"I... guess," Kurt says, softening even though every outward inch of him has become rock solid.
"Yeah, well at least they waited a few decades, right? As opposed to me, who started in high school." Blaine chuckles bitterly. "Coop always said I was an overachiever."
Kurt sighs, releasing his death grip on his cramping elbows, and takes his husband's hands. "Honey, where is this coming from?"
"I don't know," Blaine murmurs. It's a knee-jerk answer but it's also a lie. He does know. They both do. Or, at least, Kurt can guess. It was either the invitation they received to Cooper's second wedding to his second wife, taking place in June (only a month after his second divorce from wife number one finalizes... the wife Blaine loves and adores like a sister) or the heads-up from Blaine's mom that his dad, who came back a year ago to joy and revelry all around, is eloping with his secretary.
His 20-year-old secretary.
Blaine's mom broke the news to Blaine over the phone at three in the morning, hysterically crying and sloppy drunk.
But it could also be the out-of-the-blue Facebook friend request Blaine got from Eli, their favorite lighthouse. Blaine had blocked the man on everything he could think of, so to see his name and picture pop up (real picture this time) had thrown Blaine for a loop.
He almost deleted his account.
Either way, that was a ton of emotional baggage for Blaine to deal with all at once. It's ninety percent of the reason why they packed their bags last minute and ran off to Vail. Blaine couldn't face spending the holidays with his family this year.
He wouldn't even know whose house to go to.
Kurt was fine with it. His family had headed off on another Country Music Christmas Cruise. Sure he missed his dad, his stepmother, and his stepbrother.
But Kurt had never declined an invitation so fast.
He had nothing against country music. He did have an issue with being trapped in the middle of the ocean with twenty-five Bluegrass bands and nothing to eat but BBQ for two weeks. Kurt and his father were going to have to have a serious conversation about his cholesterol when the man came back to terra firma.
Blaine shivers for the first time since they've been out here, and Kurt wonders if he's finally feeling the bite in the wind, or if it's from something else.
Something frozen deep inside, so cold that ice water is actually warm enough to melt it.
Kurt looks down at the still water, abyssal black and straight out of a horror flick, then back at his husband, eyes downcast to the snow, lips turning a subtle shade of blue. Kurt knows Blaine is rethinking this decision, and normally Kurt would encourage that. But this time doing what Blaine wants, what he needs, is more important than Kurt's comfort.
And possibly his health.
"Okay, okay. I'll do this with you," Kurt says, abandoning the escape plan he had been brewing in his brain - the one where he takes a step back as his husband leaps forward and books it for the lodge - and embraces the numbing cold. "Because you're my husband, and I love you."
Blaine peeks up at his husband and smiles, a small ray of sunshine in this oppressive chill. "Thank you, Kurt." He considers adding, 'You won't regret this,' after, but he has to be real.
Kurt regrets it already.
"But whatever happens," Kurt says, unzipping his jacket quickly like ripping off a bandaid, "you are responsible for warming me up, whatever that entails, and for however long it takes. Deal?"
Blaine's shy, apologetic smile transforms.
It becomes wolfish.
Through chattering teeth and hard-pinched lips, Kurt's flirtatious tone managed to squeeze its way back into his voice.
Perhaps Blaine hasn't lost access to his husband in a Speedo after all.
Now he has to work to keep it that way.
"Deal."

this is soooo embarrassing. I can’t believe I’m even typing it out. But dude, I’ve been a gaymer for as long as I remember. I’m 30 pounds too heavy. I’m 27 and living. With too many roommates in the suburbs. And well. I’ve been watching Glee lately. And I just got to the season around college and I was hoping I could rent some tapes. See, I’ve got this major crush on Darren’s character Blaine and itd be awesome to always be singing and dancing and having fun. I was never a theatre kid myself. Any chance you can help?
Almost like a miracle, right when you considered ordering a tape from Be Kind Rewind, one of your roommates got a VCR. You suppose. You’re not sure which one of them actually got it, but it’s right there, plugged into the TV in your living room, so someone must have. The only thing is, you’ve had to wait until everyone was out to use it. You double check that the door is locked and everybody is out for the evening. You’re embarrassed to be seen watching the show, but you’re embarrassed for another reason tonight, too. Because renting this tape feels like a special occasion, you’ve decided to cosplay as Blaine a little bit. Your hair is neatly slicked back and you’ve donned a cardigan and bow tie to match his put-together preppy look.
When you’re certain the coast is clear, you open the (thankfully discretely marked) package and a die rolls out into your hand. Oh yeah. The die thing. Weird. You toss it onto the coffee table and it lands on 4.
When the VCR whirs to life, you hear those a cappella credit trills that indicate whatever episode that was playing has already ended, so you jab the rewind button, humming the music quietly to yourself. You scratch your stomach and realize the fabric of your cardigan is much looser than it should be. You lift it up and see that your stomach has shrunk, flattening against your torso, which seems firmer and more lithe in general.
Stunned, you gaze at yourself in the nearest mirror, noticing how the new outfit looks even more Blaine-like after your bizarre transformation. In fact, everything is looking more Blaine-like. Your eyebrows thicken and darken, your slicked-back hair darkening along with them. As your lips plump up and your skin tans slightly, you realize you look like a total Blaine doppelganger. Your dick hardens in the thrift store pants you bought to match the overall preppy look. You look just like your crush! You’re not even questioning it, you just figure you must be dreaming or something. But even if you’re only dreaming, why let the opportunity pass you by to admire yourself more
 privately?
In a daze, you wander into the bathroom. Instead of the pigsty it normally is, living with so many roommates, it looks neat and tidy. Tubs of hair gel neatly line the sides of the sink, and the mirror is decorated with playbills, a photo of Blaine and Kurt, and a bumper sticker for a local Lima, Ohio radio station. Not only do you look exactly like Blaine, you’re now in what seems to be his bathroom! You admire yourself in the mirror.
Tumblr media
A thrill of excitement thrums through you and you unzip your pants, rubbing yourself at the thought of looking just like your crush.
As you pleasure yourself, you think about the various Glee characters you have the biggest crushes on. Could you use this VHS service to become them all? The thought makes you even more aroused. However, when Blaine returns to your mind, your dick deflates. Suddenly it feels wrong to be thinking about him. You try to cycle back through the other characters in your mind, but suddenly only the female ones come to mind. Brittany, Quinn, even Rachel. Your dick springs back to full hardness and you panic at the sudden shift in your sex drive. You shove your erection back into your pants but not before cum explodes into the sink. You hurriedly wipe it up with some toilet paper.
What the hell is going on? As you scrub, you don’t notice that the gel is slowly easing out of your hair, which curls and falls over your face in a more lackadaisical, unkempt fashion. Stubble sprouts from your cheeks, chin, and upper lip, slowly growing into a short beard. Your clothes morph from your preppy ensemble into more of a rocker vibe, your shredded T-shirt dipping into a V-neck that exposes the dark, matted chest hair that has been busy unfurling across your newly taut torso.
Right when you flush the balled-up wad of TP, a voice interrupts your panic.
“What the hell are you doing in my bathroom?”
You turn to the doorway and see Blaine Anderson standing there. Wait, that can’t be. Weren’t you just him? You turn to look at yourself in the mirror and see a much more rugged, sloppy individual than the person you were just a moment before. You look like Blaine, but
 different. Older, somehow. And more unkempt, definitely.
Tumblr media
This intruder, on the other hand, looks exactly like Blaine. He also looks annoyed. He taps his toe and runs a hand across his impeccably coiffed hair. “This is why I asked Mom for my own bathroom, so I wouldn’t have to wait for you all the time. How is it that I use 12 hair products a day and you still take longer than I do for everything?”
You’re too shocked to say anything. You’re unsure whether you’re more shocked by the words he’s saying or the fact that Blaine is standing just feet away and you feel nothing about it whatsoever. As your brain sputters, your body kicks into autopilot and you shrug.
“The gays haven’t cornered the market on looking good just yet, little bro,” you chuckle, punching his arm as you head back out into the hallway, which now looks like one that belongs in a pristine suburban home.
As you head back into your room, you notice that it looks entirely different. No game consoles in sight, just laundry strewn everywhere and a mini basketball hoop on the back of the doorway. You absent-mindedly toss a NERF basketball toward the hoop and it hits the rim, flying back in your direction and smacking you in the face, knocking you back onto the unkempt mattress that’s on the floor without a bed frame.
You groggily open your eyes and look around. Where the hell are you? Who the hell are you? You rack your brains. Oh yeah. David Anderson. Eldest son of one of the lamest families on the planet, smack dab in the middle of Buttfuck, Ohio. You scratch your hairy chest underneath your T-shirt and check the time.
You remember you have plans to grab some brews with the boys this evening before seeing the latest movie starring that hot actress you like, so you’d better head out quick so you can hit up the gym beforehand. You throw on your gym clothes, grab your water bottle, and rush out the door.
As you pass by your little bro’s room, you see him singing along to a Mariah Carey tune and practicing his dance moves. You roll your eyes good-naturedly. Singing and dancing aren’t for you, but you appreciate how into it he is. You figure that, for him, singing and dancing brings him the same joy that going to the gym and playing ball with your bros does for you. You leap up to smack the top of the door frame as you head outside, barely giving Blaine another thought as you walk down the street, anticipating the awesome evening ahead of you.

So apparently the glee writers loved to bring in aspects of the actor’s personality and give them to the characters, as well as their personal lives and interests. What do you think they brought to Kurt and Blaine from Chris and Darren? There is some obvious stuff, well to me it is from what I’ve seen of them in interviews etc.
They brought some negative stuff for some of the other actors, but I don’t think they did so for them??
You know, it's funny - we used to say that as the show went on - Kurt became more like Chris and Blaine became less like Darren.
Kurt is the more complicated answer. When the show started, Kurt was much more Ryan Murphy -- this weird, effeminate, overly dramatic kid. Kurt became more toned down as the show went on, because Chris was (is) not an overly effeminate, dramatic guy.
They tried to bring in Kurt writing (Chris really did not want this - but there are elements of it in his character anyway). There are also smaller things -- like Kurt's penchant for twirling things, that's a Chris-ism. There are more -- but I'm kind of blanking, I'd know it if I saw it. But they're peppered in. You can sometimes tell when Chris improv'd a Kurt line, because Chris as a sharp sense of humor and a certain cadence to it that is slightly off from the rest of the writing.
Also, I do believe Kurt's independence was definitely a push from Chris, as Chris values individual independence very much.
Unfortunately, there were some negative things that did filter through for Chris/Kurt, mostly in the last few seasons. They started commenting on his looks more (which Naya confirmed Chris felt uncomfortable with). They also make a lot of jokes about Kurt liking old people -- and part of that stems from Chris having older friends/enjoying older people, but I've always wondered if Walter stemmed (every so slightly - there are definitely other factors going on here) from the fact that Chris's partner Will is a good deal older than him. (I mean, not that much older, but Will is older than I am!)
Of course, The Hurt Locker episodes were commentary on itself, and part of that commentary was Chris (and possibly Darren)'s wanting to not be linked together. Also, I've always wondered about the line from Isabelle about 'Chris' and 'Darren' not wanting to sit together. And I always wondered if it was commentary on Chris not wanting to be public with Darren because of the tinhatters.
Darren/Blaine is a little bit harder to define in some ways. The character just was incredibly under developed in the first few seasons, and especially in Season 2, Darren brought a lot more of himself to the role? the voice change is the big one - Darren changed Blaine's voice, and once he settled on it, he never looked back.
I don't know how much they wrote Darren into Blaine, though. There were little nods here and there -- The glitter rock vampire stuff is all Darren, and probably improvised. Blaine put on pink sunglasses in season 2, which was a nod to Darren (at the time). But I don't know that they took too much of Darren's life and put it in the show.
I think, ultimately, that Darren had one of the better relationships with the creators/writers/etc of the show, and thus was not given the same treatment that those on the outs with them often got, unfortunately.
Jane Lynch once said - you could always tell who was in and who was out with Ryan Murphy based on how the character was treated. And I do think she was pretty accurate on that one.

Chapter 13: Feeling
Figureskating!Blaine/designer!Kurt Olympics AU for december klaine fanworks challenge. Also on AO3.
They didn’t end up at Garden of the Gods after their high tea. They toured the rest of Miramont Castle, Kurt expressing simultaneous delight and horror the building’s eclectic mishmash of Queen Anne, Romanesque, English Tudor, Venetian Gothic, Byzantine, and half a dozen other architectural styles. “I can't figure out any rhyme or reason to it. He just threw in whatever he liked with no regard for aesthetic unity. It's hideous. I love it! I mean, I could never live here. It's an architectural identity crisis. Two completely different styles of window in a single stairwell? It would kill me. But the audacity! The chutzpah! I hate his vision, but at least he had one.”
Just listening to Kurt made joy bubble up inside Blaine. Kurt was a delight. A force of nature. Blaine imagined how much more entertaining his visits to Turino and Vancouver, Tokyo and Sapporo and Nagano, Paris and Goyang and Gothenburg would have been with Kurt in tow, providing color commentary on all the sights and sounds and smells of each city, relishing even in the things that repelled him because their newness was enough to cause delight. He wished Kurt was going with him to Sochi. It was beautiful and strange and tacky and sad and utterly fascinating. Kurt would be so alive in it.
Almost a week later, they finally made it to Garden of the Gods. It had been a long week, the excitement of the looming games overshadowed too often by dull meetings, bickering between Sue and Sebastian, and that annoying young punk Sam Evans, who refused to let Blaine forget he had been named to the first spot, while Blaine only made it on the roster this Olympics because the third choice’s hip injury flared up after the nationals championships. Blaine tried to act like the adult he was and overlook the “gramps” and the “old man” and “Jar Jar” (because the first thing he’d said to Blaine upon arriving in Colorado Springs was “You’re kind of like Jar Jar Binks, though, aren’t you? Because nobody actually wanted you in the sequel.”) He kept telling himself that Sam was a kid who was clearly overcompensating for his insecurities about launching his senior career with the eyes of the entire world on him. Blaine had been sixteen once, and just as insecure.
On the other hand, Blaine hadn’t been an asshole. And he had never, ever thought it would be a good idea to waggle his hips on the ice like a second-rate nightclub stripper to a weird, saxophone-heavy instrumental mashup of Justin Bieber's greatest hits. When Blaine had politely suggested Sam tone down on the thrusting, the kid had come back with, “You’re not my coach, gramps. Sex sells. You’re just jealous because you’re an old geezer whose lost all his testosterone and his sex appeal.”
The kid was horned up and classless and, worst of all, rude. How was he competing for a spot in the team event with this brat?
But no. Blaine was not going to think about that. It was a perfect, sunny day, the light of the winter sun sloping through the red rock formations at low angles that painted crisp shadows against the snow.
Even better, he was here with Kurt Hummel: beautiful, delightful, amazing Kurt. They hadn't gotten nearly enough time together since the high tea—which means they saw each other every day but not all day, Blaine visiting the costume studio even when it wasn't strictly necessary, and Kurt hanging out at practices even when he might have been exploring the tourist spots, and eating meals together when they could (but very often not alone, thanks Sue and Sebastian and the entire U.S. figure skating team), and Blaine even inviting Kurt back to his apartment only to find that Mike and Kitty had formed an encampment in front of the television for a marathon session of watching the routines of every single competing pair they would face in Sochi. So he and Kurt had joined them instead of enjoying a quiet dinner like Blaine had planned and maybe, if Blaine was allowed to dream, enjoying each other in a different way that Blaine had to stop himself from imagining every time Kurt helped him remove the latest iteration of his costume.
“Thanks for bringing me here,” Kurt said as they made their way down the trail between two towering pillars of vividly striped rock. “I never would have thought to come on my own.”
“No?”
Kurt shrugged. “City boy. I forget it can be nice to be out in nature. I mean, I could do without feeling like my nose is about to fall off my face, but it really is pretty. And quiet. And
” he sighed contentedly.
“Here. I wouldn't want your nose to disappear.” Blaine tugged his scarf from his neck and draped it around Kurt’s, folding it gently to form a pocket of warm air over Kurt’s lower face. It felt both bold and easy—easy because they had stood this close many times as Kurt measured Blaine’s body or draped fabric over it or adjusted this and that bit of his costume, so that sharing such a close space had become second nature; bold because it was now Blaine doing the reaching out and touching.
“Usually, I would complain about this not coordinating with my carefully curated ensemble. But it's Burberry. And cashmere. So I’ll make an exception.” Kurt's eyes danced above the fabric, a dazzling contrast of blue and green above the pale yellows and grays of the checked scarf. “But what about your nose?”
In answer, Blaine reached into his collar and pulled the fabric of this turtleneck up over his chin. It was long enough that he could cover his whole face with it if he wanted to. He had, in fact, chosen it in the very hope that he might lose his scarf to Kurt. “I came prepared for every possibility.”
Kurt smiled. Blaine couldn't see his mouth of course, but he could see his eyes and the way they narrowed as Kurt’s cheekbones lifted, the skin on the outer edges crinkling into deep, happy furrows.
“You’re
” Blaine started to say, but the words caught in his throat. That’s how beautiful Kurt was. It made Blaine forget how to speak.
“I’m
?” Kurt said—curiously, not flirtatiously. He clearly had no idea what was going on inside Blaine at this moment.
Blaine shook his head to loosen his tongue. It only half worked. He couldn't get the words I out that he’d meant to. But the ones he spoke were perhaps even more inspired. “I want you in Sochi with me.”
Kurt stopped in his tracks.
“I mean, if you're free. If you want to. If you—” Was this another case of Blaine diving into concrete? It had really looked like water to him. “I fully trust you can get everything done before we go, but I think
 I think I would feel better having you there. You're the only one who—”
“—knows the costumes well enough to fix them if you need any last-minute repairs?”
That was not what Blaine had been trying to say, but it was true. “Yes. And you understand my vision. Besides
 seeing you at Miramont Castle, I couldn't help but think how much you would enjoy yourself there.”
Kurt’s eyes went wide. “You’ve been there before? And it’s transcendently tacky?”
“Only parts of it,” Blaine chuckled. “It’s mostly because you appreciate things that are
 different, or— I don’t know. You just appreciate things in a way I’ve never seen anyone do before. And I
 I just thought, we really should have you there anyway, because what if something changes? What if I hear something or feel something new and I have a sudden fit of artistic inspiration and you’re not there to help me bring it to life? And then I go do my programs and yes, of course the costumes are beautiful, because you made them, and they say most of the things I wanted to say, but there’s something else and
 ” Blaine looked down at the dirt peeking through the tracks in the snow. He was so frustrated with himself. He wasn’t making himself clear at all. He probably sounded crazy. A needy prima donna demanding too much. “We’ll pay you, of course. And flights and lodgings and meals. An interpreter if you want. I know it must be an incredible inconvenience. But you’re so inspiring and
”
Blaine looked up. And Kurt was there, looking back at him. Blaine saw the answer in his eyes. Kurt was right there with him. He didn't think Blaine was crazy at all. “I'd love to go,” Kurt said quietly, his voice gentle and reassuring like the waves lapping up on Cabrillo Beach at low tide. He tugged Blaine’s arm, and pulled him forward, and Blaine’s heart started to pound out of his chest because he wanted to kiss Kurt so badly but also maybe he should have had a Tic Tac first and also would Kurt think that his bubble gum-flavored chapstick was gross and also there was a group of gruff evangelical conservatives just 50 yards ahead, and the one who looked like he was in the military was loudly explaining how the sedimentary lines were all formed in the great flood of Genesis 6 through 9 and—
It turned out Kurt’s face was not the destination he had intended for Blaine. Because Kurt stepped forward too, or backward—well, in the same direction Blaine was moving, so that they stayed the same distance apart—and Blaine realized that they were not kissing in the brilliant winter sun of the Garden of the Gods. They were walking again.
“So,” Kurt said. “How many times have you been to Sochi?”
It took a moment for Blaine to regain his bearings. He had to replay the question twice in his brain in order to understand it. “I've been to the Russia lots. But Sochi only once. The Grand Prix was held there last season.”
“Ah,” Kurt said with a tone of—disappointment? Not in Blaine, but like he had made some sort of faux pas. “I should probably know that.”
Oh. Blaine didn’t like the expression on Kurt’s face. It was almost sad. He never wanted Kurt to be sad. He stepped a little closer to Kurt, let their shoulders brush. “I kind of like that you don’t.”
Kurt still looked kind of sad. But also curious. “Is it hard?”
“What?”
“People knowing so much about you before you’ve even met them.”
It was and it wasn't. Blaine had spent so much of his life in the limelight that he had become used to it. And it wasn't like he was Brad Pitt or Obama or the Pope. He didn't get recognized by every single person every single place he went. The times when it was hard was when people thought they already knew him—when they filtered everything he said and did through the picture of him they had already built in their minds based on public appearances and TV broadcasts and news clippings—when nothing he said or did could surprise them, because they had already decided not to be surprised.
“Nobody knows who I am before I've met them,” Blaine said. “Sometimes they don't even know after they've met me.”
Kurt was silent. Blaine listened to the sound of their shoes crunching against the snow.
“I hope I don't make you feel like that,” Kurt said.
Blaine’s campaign to cheer Kurt up was totally failing. He could do better. “You don't make me feel like that at all, Kurt. You make me feel like
 Talking to you, it feels like
 like I’m new. To you. And to me, too. And you’re new, and fascinating, and
 it’s like I'm discovering a part of the world that was always there but I never knew existed. Even myself, when we talk, when you ask me questions and you listen—you really listen, Kurt, you make me feel like the things I say are actually interesting and surprising and even delightful—it’s like I'm remembering things I forgot about myself or never even knew.”
Blaine looked at Kurt, and for the first time since he had draped Kurt in his scarf, he wished he could see more of Kurt’s face. There was something in Kurt’s eyes that Blaine felt like he would be just on the edge of understanding, if only he could see more.
“You are interesting and surprising and delightful,” Kurt said solemnly. “And you make me feel that way too.” He glanced over his shoulder before giving Blaine’s hand a quick squeeze, then let go. In a low whisper, he added, “I want it to be out in the open, though. I might not have been a super fan who tracked your every media mention in elaborately decorated scrapbooks and curated Delicio.us lists. But I did have some preconceived notions about you.”
A tiny flutter like panic quickened in Blaine’s chest. What if they were bad? No, he was being stupid. He knew it was stupid. Kurt's tone was soft, silky, alluring. That wasn't the voice of someone who was about to say something mean to you. And even if Kurt used to think bad things about him, it shouldn't matter, because Kurt certainly seemed to like him okay now. But still— Blaine made a quick verbal counter turn. “Well, I had some ideas about you, too.”
“You didn't know who I was.”
“Not for as long as you knew about me, but I saw your portfolio, and it spoke to me. And Sebastian told me some things.”
“Oh, Christ on a cracker. That couldn't have been good.”
“Quite the opposite. He told me you were dedicated and hardworking and witty, and that you always stuck to your principles, and that I should trust you, because he trusted you, and he does not trust very many people.”
“Really? Sebastian said all that?”
“Really. It was so glowing that—” Despite the cold, Blaine felt heat rising to his cheeks. “I asked him if he had feelings for you.”
The scarf loosened around Kurt’s face as he wrinkled up his nose. “Oh. God, no. It's never been like that with us.”
“That's what he told me. I believe the exact words were something like ‘Don't get me wrong, I would totally bang him if he would just uncross his legs for two seconds and let me, but the difference between you and me, Blaine, is that I know the difference between romance and sex.’”
“Sounds like Sebastian,” Kurt said. Well, at least the Sebastian he had known all his life until the previous Sunday morning. Apparently for the new Sebastian, romance and sex were starting to overlap, at least a tiny bit. “And I'm sorry he told you so many lies about me.”
“You know they aren’t, Kurt. You're all that, and then some.”
“Well, then.” Kurt looked away, his eyes batting like Bambi’s. He was so adorable when he was flummoxed. “You subject me to all that overwhelming flattery, but you won’t let me tell you my preformed impressions of you?”
Ah. So Kurt had noticed the counter turn. Apparently he was getting to know Blaine even better than Blaine had thought. Blaine momentarily closed his eyes against the bright sun and took a deep breath. “Okay, fine. Hit me with your worst.”
“Well, you're a wonderful skater, obviously. I mean, I know that can’t mean anything to you coming from me, I don't have the expertise to judge but ... I always feel something when I watch you skate. Figure skating doesn't always feel like art to me—maybe that's why I've focused more on costuming for ice dance until now—but it does, when I watch you. You have all this ... generosity and passion inside of you, and it spills out onto the ice. It's mesmerizing. And not just because you're incredibly good-looking.”
Blaine made a sharp inhale. “You think I'm good-looking?” He was not being coy. He was, on some level, honestly surprised. Even though they’d been flirting, even though he knew Kurt felt something about him on some level because he’d pretty much said so not three minutes ago, it felt revelatory. To have the words spoken—that made it real. Kurt Hummel, the most beautiful man the world had ever seen, thought Blaine Anderson was visually appealing.
Kurt laughed. “Well, yes. That's one of the other prejudices I might have brought into our first meeting.”
“I think I'm okay with that,” Blaine said, delight coiling his muscles. “Though you’ve seen me without make-up on now. And exhausted. And impatient with Sue. So I suppose I’ve managed to dissuade you a bit from your previous position.”
“Oh, no,” Kurt said—only it didn't really sound like words, but more like breath, or the sound of the air breezing through a crack in the rocks. “I find you quite attractive. Much more than I ever could have imagined anyone to be.”

do you have any headcanons about the Quinn / Mercedes / Kurt friendship post high school??? Like New York is really not that far from New Haven
They meet up every other weekend at a bar to be sad drunks together. Well, Kurt and Quinn are sad drunks, Mercedes is having the time of her life (she's canonically a giggler)
Kurt and Mercedes visit Quinn every year on Beth's birthday so she won't be alone
Mercedes consistently judges their romantic decisions ("You know I love Blaine, but-" "Please tell me you did not go back to Noah Puckerman, please for the love of God-") and they can't say shit because they know she's right
Quinn and Kurt go to all of Mercedes' concerts. Sometimes she calls them on stage to sing with her
Kurt (idc what canon says fashion was his true calling) styles most of his clothes for women with them in mind and often uses them as styling models
Idk why but I had it in my head that Quinn became a lawyer so for these hcs she's the lawyer friend who gets called for everything. Rear-ended? Call Quinn. Landlord being an ass? Call Quinn. Record label trying to screw you over? Call Quinn. She complains, but she likes helping her friends
They threw Brittana the most kickass bachelorette party (the double wedding didn't happen and Quinn was at the wedding in my mind😌)
Living with Rachel is a hellish experience, Mercedes and Quinn laugh at Kurt's misfortune ("I told you that was a dumb ass idea" "You could barely tolerate Rachel in high school what made you think living with her would be any better")
In addition to #8, Quinn and Mercedes knew about Santana's snooping habit and didn't see fit to warn Kurt ("Uh, Santana went through all our stuff" "Oh yeah she does that" "You knew??")
These are all I have for now. They don't exactly follow canon, but I make my own rulesđŸ€·đŸŸâ€â™€ïž

Hurting People's Favorite Character's Is Not Entertaining
The writers of 911 thought it would be entertaining to hurt both Buck and Tommy, with the excuse of 'Buck needs to fuck around and play the field and explore himself'. Which not only leaves Tommy alone and heartbroken, but regresses Buck's character back to the simple playboy manwhore that he was in season 1. So much for any growth he showed in the last few seasons.
The writers of The Magicians wanted to hurt Queliot fans by giving Eliot man pain over losing his best friend + deep emotional pain over losing the love of his life, which comes from losing the same person as Q was both Eliot's best friend, and the love of his life.
The writers of BTVS wanted to further Willow's plot by killing off Tara. Instead of having them go the route of showing love can conquer all, they turn Willow into a killer, and then have her best friend show up for her and pull the love conquer's all trope from there.
The writers of South of Nowhere were constantly using Ashley's bisexuality as a means to create drama between her and Spencer. Ashley's former relationship with Aiden is brought up numerous times, and the fact that they were going to have a baby together, but it ended in miscarriage, created a large crack in the Spashley relationship. Also doesn't help that Ashley had many other personal issues with noncaring parents, Spencer's mother hating her for "turning" her daughter gay, judgement from lesphobic assholes at school and in Spencer's own brother, Glen.
The writers for Queer as Folk thought they were being edgy or cool by making Brian an asshole and playboy through the entire show, but all it really did was piss off fans. Brian and Justin spend the whole show trying to be together, fighting Brian's emotional issues from having homophobic parents, dealing with Justin's homophobic parents, Justin getting nearly killed, Brian dealing with the fact that he thinks he's only capable of fucking around and not finding love, and when he finally does at the end of the show, he pushes Justin away with the excuse of putting Justin and his career first. Tell me why Brian couldn't have moved to New York to be with Justin? Just saying. He could've opened another branch of Kinnetik there, and Justin still would've been able to grow his career, grow as a person, but also continue in the relationship with Brian, and be allowed to be happy. The writers of the 100 killed off Lexa because the actress needed more time for her to be on FTWD, which is just stupid. They could've put in some kind of storyline where Lexa went missing, but instead they furthered the 'bury your gays' trope and pissed off all the Lexa and Clexa fans with that bullshit. Showing that once again, gays/lesbians/bisexuals, don't get to be happy.
The writers of Glee did a number on Blaine's character. He's bullied for being gay, harassed and nearly blinded for sticking up for his boyfriend. He's ignored by his boyfriend because of a job, written as a cheater because of his insecurities, made to date his former boyfriend's high school bully when he both knows how horrible being bullied is in the first place, and more than likely knows how horrible Dave made Kurt feel when Kurt was in high school. Blaine doesn't have much of a support system. We barely ever see him with the Warblers, when he joins McKinley, those people are mainly on Kurt's side as they were his friends first, though Tina and Sam are later shown as closer to Blaine than Kurt. His brother is shown only once on the show, and his parents, too, which goes to show that they don't really support Blaine or are there for him. I mean, sure, he got his happy ending and he and Kurt get married, but Kurt is really all he has. So tell me, is Blaine really happy? His family isn't in much in his life, he has two best friends, but they're off living their lives most of the time, and Kurt is focused on his career, so Blaine's basically alone. Oh, and also, apparently Sebastian ends up alone. Which, another gay man ends up sad, miserable and alone? Color me shocked. /s Why the hell would gay men/lesbians/bisexuals want to watch shows with characters like themselves when they just aren't written well? Why are these three kinds of people/characters doomed to not be allowed to be fully happy?

~ Kiss in a rush of adrenaline ~
The Warblers ran into a problem when competition season rolled around. They had essentially been cut in half, and that meant they were working with significantly less people than normal. Adding on top of that the rivalry he was brewing with New Directions and... well, it wasn't ideal.
Y/n got an earful every evening after glee rehearsals. Blaine was apparently up Sebastian's ass, playing some form of protective older brother for Y/n. He had made it clear time and time again that he didn't approve of Sebastian, and his boyfriend Kurt was only too happy to support this endeavor. Predictably, Kurt had been most on board for it when Blaine had told him of Sebastian's initial flirting and move making. It made Y/n wonder if Kurt was in it to protect Y/n like Blaine was, or if he was in it for his own personal revenge.
Unfortunately, that didn't seem to be where the struggles ended. They had enough people to compete and so did Noteworthies - but only one team could compete from one school. Which meant that on top of push back from Blaine and Kurt, and the dance they'd been having with all of New Directions, there needed to be a pre-competition face off to see which Dalton Glee club was going to compete.
Which was strange to talk about, when they were technically opposed team captains, but also had been spending as much time as they could together again. They'd wanted to perform together again and neither could come up with a reason to. They were busy practicing for all the face offs and performances they had coming up, which meant they didn't have much free time. With the stress increasing, the need for peace and quiet got worse until their routine became shit talking everyone else in the car and then going back to Sebastian's, cleaning up and changing, and then just doing homework in absolute silence for hours and hours, cuddled up until dinner. Dinner was the best part of the day because they would be recharged from everything else and would put the homework away and just talk. Or watch something. They didn't talk about school during dinner, or Glee. They'd talk about music or the thing they watched or anything else. Sometimes Blaine and Kurt, but never New Directions.
It was so strange to find themselves on opposing sides when school came around at the beginning of every new day, especially when their mornings were spent getting coffee where Y/n and Blaine used to and tormenting the New Directions people who were there if they happened to run into each other.
Y/n didn't even feel bad about it. He had tried to stop Sebastian at first, but then Blaine had ruined that.
The day had started cool, which was nice because the Dalton blazers were always a little warm on the body. Adding coffee to that usually meant feeling a little warmer than one was usually comfortable with. But not that morning. Instead, Y/n and Sebastian were in line to get their coffees, Sebastian going on and on about a wild encounter he'd had in Paris when he was still living there. Y/n had been sent into a fit of laughter, face turning red and wrapping his arms around his stomach. "You did not get that drunk at 11 years old," Y/n accused.
Sebastian was grinning. "I absolutely did. My parents were mad, but it wasn't as big of a deal as you'd think. The problem was that I had stolen all the cream puffs. There were three heaping plates made for everyone at that party and I had eaten them all by myself. I was sick for two whole days, and still couldn't eat chocolate without feeling sick for another week." Y/n peeled into giggles again and the room seemed to get brighter, warmer. Sebastian watched him with so much adoration on his face that the people around them all smiled.
Well, almost everyone.
"If it isn't my favorite Dalton boy." An arm looped around Y/n's shoulder, and he looked over to see Blaine. Immediately, the joy started to seep out of him and Sebastian watched in irritation as he put on the mask that he always did. The calm and the patient and the gentle. Not that Y/n wasn't all of those things, but more that he only ever allowed himself to be those things specifically when certain people - like Blaine - were around. The more time he spent around Sebastian, the more he allowed himself to express all of the different sides of him, but it was slow coming. It was easier with the Warblers and most of the Noteworthies, but harder with Lyran and anyone from McKinley. It bothered Sebastian immensely.
"Hey," Y/n greeted with a soft smile.
Blaine positioned himself to cut Sebastian off from the conversation and immediately Sebastian's jaw locked. He tried to play as nice as possible with Blaine - he meant a lot to Y/n. And even if Sebastian didn't get the appeal (he had flirted with the man once before actually getting to know Y/n, and now he just about laughed out loud at the thought. How could be have gone for stick-in-the-mud, goody two shoes Blaine when Y/n was right there?) it wasn't about him, so. Whatever. The move from Blaine was an affront though, and he barely managed.
"I haven't seen you in a while. How have you been?"
Kurt shot him a look and Sebastian purposefully ignored it. His eyes were on Y/n, who suddenly seemed uncomfortable. It seemed he has picked up on Blaine's actions - and Sebastian's reaction to it as well.
"Fine," the boy eased, sliding fluidly from Blaine's hold to pick up something off of a nearby shelf, tilting it as if considering if he was going to get it. He put it down and turned back to the other three. It was a well masked attempt to include Sebastian again, and a well appreciated one. Well, appreciated by Sebastian. Blaine's smile got a little tighter.
"I heard you started a new acapella group at Dalton," Blaine picked up again. There was something very awkward about him trying to start small talk, and Y/n shutting it down with one word responses instead of expanding in the least. An awkwardness that was showing in Blaine's tone.
"Yeah," Y/n nodded, and the tension grew.
Sebastian swallowed a smile when he saw a hint of his Y/n. The hidden shade he was masking so well with innocence and softness. It wasn't cruel, more unsure. Y/n didn't know how to show Blaine that finally, he had changed too. In the way that Blaine had become more a team player, flourishing with a bunch of people who challenged him and treated him like a normal person instead of some music sex god, that Y/n had bloomed in the same way.
Under Sebastian's pressure and fire, he had grown to something infinitely more beautiful: Himself. Not filtered to be more palpable, or fit the vibe someone else was setting. He was himself - both soft and hot to the touch. Soothing at one point, and agitating the next, depending on what he had to rise to the top to meet. And there was a whole new side to him too - one that didn't just react, but set expectations and then kept them going. Who established a mood and then continued it. One who knew control and patience and could balance firm grips and gentle nudges.
Blaine missed it all. He hummed in such false amusement that it was so obviously just irritation.
"Seems you're spending a lot of time with Mr. Competition over here then." It was light and airy, easily dismissed unless you already knew he was trying to shove a wedge between Y/n and Sebastian. Which they all did know.
Y/n seemed to consider that. "Competition drama and interpersonal relationships are different things. At Dalton we try to keep it clean - nothing personal, no dirty play." He shot a pointed look at Sebastian. "These days at the very least."
Sebastian felt himself warm, flaring under Y/n's attention. "The whole point of a game is there are always rules. I set some, you set some. They must all be followed or people stop playing."
Y/n snorted. "Very good job Bas, you're learning so well."
Blaine seemed uncomfortable with the easy banter between the two, and he tended when Y/n used a nickname. "Y/n-"
"Listen," Y/n cut off. "I've tried to tell you before but you refuse to listen so I'll be very blunt with you. I'm a different person now - a better person. This is a good thing, and if you can't see that and accept that people change I don't want to be friends with you anymore. I know you have beef with Sebastian. It's a good thing you're not the one who has a relationship with him." He turned without another word and made his order, filling in Sebastian's as well without thinking. He had been correct to the T so Sebastian let it slide. He relished Y/n stepping in to stop Blaine, and he especially loved that Y/n was so easily showing how well they knew each other and how much they meant to each other. It was delicious.
Blaine stumbled over his words for a moment at the display from the boy who used to be so close to him. "What happened to you?"
Y/n's irritation slipped. "What happened to me is that I finally got a life outside of you. I'm in a glee club that isn't revolving around you. I have other friends. I developed a personality based on myself and not you and your standards and expectations, and found people who like what I have to offer. If the only way you want me is folded nicely so that you can have me at your disposable for you and your irritating ass boyfriend then you don't want me." He slapped money on the counter and grabbed the two drinks before walking away. "See you around Blaine."
As they left, Sebastian's face twisted with a smirk. Not the teasing or biting one he usually donned, but one filled with admiration and adoration.
Something bubbled under the surface of his skin and he shivered. Then decided to ignore it for now. Y/n started a conversation about how bagels sounded good for breakfast and that was the end of it.
For now.
-
It was decided that a face off would be held to decide who was going to competition of the Dalton glee clubs.
It wasn't a shocking conclusion, but still needed an official announcement.
When the day came, Sebastian thought the Warblers had it in the bag.
Then the Noteworthies went.
Whatever the group had accomplished in the past, they had surpassed themselves several times. They were completely in sync, switching out and weaving through each other like it was second nature. They kept a certain energy between them that truly was contagious, like before, but also tangible. An energy that flowed through the air. Not a performance, or a show of any specific person. No call to attention or vie for spotlight, but a conversation between them that became increasingly interesting to follow.
They sang songs and it seemed like words. Banter between friends, or inside jokes. Stories that weren't all the way told yet. Secrets on the cusp of being spoken into the world. It was a sleep over or a camp out, telling stories in the dark and trying to scare each other. It was a safety net that if anyone crosses a line, you could stop and it would be okay. It was a breath of relief, or the first day of Summer vacation. Full of possibilities and mischief and energy and wonderment with all the stability of not having quite lost your sense of time. Youthful. Bright. Fun. But also accepting and gentle and understanding.
Of course the Warblers lost.
Y/n had been right - a group that worked as a unit far surpassed a ring leader surrounded by people to make them look better. And after the challenge, Sebastian lost even more Warblers.
He was losing the game, and he realized he had been for a long time.
Fascinating.
He swallowed his smile when Y/n met him at the car. Y/n rose an eyebrow. "What is it? You're not mad we won are you? And I swear I'm not trying to steal anymore of your Warblers-"
Sebastian shook his head. "Please. It's like you said - we've far surpassed taking things personally and lashing out."
Y/n rose an eyebrow. "So you're not going to be petty?" Sebastian was surprised to realize Y/n was being sarcastic when he asked the question.
Y/n knew him so well...
Sebastian's smile finally made it through as they got into the car. "Perhaps just a little." Y/n laughed and suddenly Sebastian didn't feel bad at all anymore.
-
"Oh I love this song!" Y/n shot to his feet, pushing homework aside for a moment to grab Sebastian's hand and force him to follow. They were dancing together before Sebastian could even complain.
He did it while they were up instead, despite the fact that he didn't sit back down even when Y/n let go of his hands. "You promised you wouldn't get distracted if we played music today. We need to study."
Y/n rolled his eyes. "We do homework all the time - my grades are better than they've been in ages. It can wait for a single song." Y/n stepped close, something mischievous in his eyes. "Or two."
Something bubbled in Sebastian's stomach, worming it's way up to his chest. Words were on the tip of his tongue but he couldn't quite pull them out or place what they were so for now he let them be.
And the two danced.
The second song was slower, and Y/n tried to do a funny bit by using choreography slowed to half speed, his facial expressions even changing at a snail's pace, which did get Sebastian to laugh. But then he reached out and pulled Y/n against him, chest to chest, and grabbed his hand and waist. "Slow dance properly or skip the song," he chided.
Y/n snorted but didn't pull away. "Of course the rich boy is particular about slow dancing," he teased. "You know how to waltz I assume?"
Sebastian's eyes shone. "Would you like me to teach you?"
Y/n grinned. "Fuck yes." So Sebastian did. It was the first time they'd danced that it wasn't competitive or teasing. There was fire here too but it was quieter, calmer - familiar. Sebastian grabbed his hand, then his waist, and stepped closer. He spoke softly, giving directions and telling him when and where he was stepping and the directions he was going.
It was easy to follow him. Sebastian was excellent at leading, both with his steps and his words. At one point he spun Y/n, slowly to allow for him learning, and Y/n giggled. When they were face to face again they were both grinning.
"This is fun," Sebastian noted. He didn't speak as loudly as he usually did, keeping that soft directional tone he'd been using up to this point.
Y/n felt his face warm up. "It is. Maybe we should make this a regular thing. You can teach me everything you know."
Sebastian's smile grew a little teasing, and seeing that peek out now only made Y/n blush worse. "Je crois que je t'aime."
Y/n's eyebrows came together when Sebastian spoke in French. "No fair! I don't know French."
"If I teach you everything I know," Sebastian reasoned. "You will one day."
Y/n narrowed his eyes. "Okay," he eased slowly. "What did you say though?"
The deviousness crescendo'd as Sebastian chuckled. "I'll tell you one day." He slowed them to a stop, spinning Y/n outward and catching his wrist. He brought the back of Y/n's hands to his lips, leaving a kiss. "You're a wonderful dance partner."
Y/n raised an eyebrow. "You need to be dubbed an official Disney Prince with all this charm you're using on me."
There seemed to be something Sebastian wanted to say, but he chose not to.
A new side to him.
Instead he cleared his throat, covering up a laugh. "Let's get back to homework." Unsure of how to get him to divulge information when he was so often readily offering it and not hiding it away as he was now, Y/n was forced to let the interaction go.
For now.
-
Noteworthies killed it at competition, putting Dalton in first place for the first time since Sebastian had started coming to school here. When they were announced as first, Sebastian's eyes went wide and he couldn't stop smiling. He was in the audience, but he was quickly out of his seat and rushing backstage. When Y/n was off of that stage, he was quick to close the distance. Y/n was surprised, but laughed as they met in the middle, getting caught up in the kiss immediately.
It was the first time they'd been explicitly affectionate in public, and it was wonderful. Especially as Lyran smiled to themself, watching the two.
"Finally, am I right?" they whispered to one of the other boys who laughed, all of them heading to the changing room to leave the pair alone.
When the two boys separated from their embrace, Y/n was blushing. "What was that?" he asked.
Sebastian shrugged. "Probably... adrenaline." He chuckled, finding himself a little breathless. No one had ever made him this soft before, taken him so completely. He felt a little silly and completely ridiculous and stripped entirely of his power-
And he loved it.
-
“Hey I have a question.” Things had changed since the kiss back stage. They weren’t playing this maybe-friends-maybe-not thing, they were definitely more than friends. Things had gotten as casual as Y/n ending up in Sebastian’s bed for no other reason than better cuddling positions as they watched Netflix all day. That was their Saturday routine. They only got out of bed to make food, and then they’d play music and dance together or tease or kiss

It was domestic.
But they’d never made anything official.
Sebastian had waited for Y/n to give him that staple look people always did when things got a little too serious. Usually that was when he’d run away, but with Y/n he was sure he’d have drifted into a relationship blissfully. No one could keep up with him and change the game like Y/n could - who could ever even keep his attention after this boy?
But Y/n had never asked. It had never come up. And once again the rules were different than Sebastian had expected. It wasn’t Y/n asking about their relationship that day. It was Sebastian. His hair was soft, dried post shower, and he had only bothered with the bare minimum necessary to be comfortable. Y/n had lost his shirt at some point, stealing one of Sebastian’s even though there were clothes just here that were Y/n’s at this point. It felt intimate in a weird way. Different than sex, but maybe on the same level as it.
Y/n looked at the boy, smiling. “Ask away.”
“Are we together?” Sebastian asked. “Like, boyfriends.”
Y/n’s face light up. “I thought you didn’t do labels, Hot Shot.”
Sebastian rolled his eyes. “If you don’t want to-“
Even if Y/n could throw him off, Sebastian was good at catching up. The dynamic shifted as Y/n gently caressed his cheek, leaning in to kiss him to get him to stop. “No, it’s okay. I’d love to be your boyfriend. And to have yours as mine. Please.”
Sebastian grew warm. “Okay.” There was that thing
 that thing just under the surface
. But he let it go.
Not yet. He couldn’t handle two huge leaps in character in one day. Something told him that Y/n wouldn’t want him to anyway.
-
It happened, ironically, after they decided to hang out because Y/n’s parents were getting a divorce. Maybe that was actually what made it perfect timing. They were tangled together on the couch, Sebastian soothingly running his hands up and down Y/n’s back. They hadn’t spoken in a while but Y/n’s mood seemed to slowly, steadily, improving. Sebastian could feel that feeling that was growing more and more impossible to ignore. The words that were getting closer and closer to slipping between his lips. They were getting less and less scary - easier to say. Easier to accept. He knew that they would escape any second now.
“I love you.” It was Y/n who’d spoken.
Immediately Sebastian sighed. “Of course you managed it before I did.” He sounded only amused.
Y/n laughed. “To be fair, you were the one who made the relationship official. You started all of this. I think I can get one thing on you. If that’s okay.”
“No. It’s not. Take it back.” At Sebastian’s words, Y/n laughed again. Sebastian left a kiss on his boyfriend’s forehead. Lingering. Then his lips parted and-
“Don’t say it just because I did,” Y/n interrupted.
Sebastian sighed. “I wouldn’t say anything I didn’t mean. If I didn’t love you, I’d run. I always do.” He scoffed. “But
 I do love you. And I can even say that foul word. You’ve completely ruined me. I’m so young how could you do this to me?”
Y/n shrugged, and his smugness was so gorgeous Sebastian had to kiss him. When they parted, Y/n whispered, “Can we be different than everyone else? Can we just
 not deal with all the bullshit? And work together and communicate and not fall apart? Or even worse - stay together forever even though the relationship is cannabilizing itself. Can you promise me we’ll never stop talking?”
Sebastian hummed, sighing. “I can promise I’ll always try.”
Y/n nodded. “That’s enough.” And it was. Everything else could fall apart. Their family, their relationship with Blaine. School could end. The Warblers could get usurped. It was all temporary. And maybe this was too, but it was also worth it in a way. Especially because it was temporary. Even if all they had was this week, or if it was for the rest of their lives
 they had each other. What more could one person ask for than that?

Hi! I'm an author working on being brave enough to publish my work. Starting with a season 6 rewrite series about Kurt and Blaine.
Works in Progress
Part 1: Descent
It's the beginning of a new year, and the start of a new chapter for Kurt and Blaine. They've finally moved back in together, set a date for their wedding, and they have New York all to themselves. It should be the best time of their lives. Right? Caught off guard by the stress of living together again, Kurt can't stop getting this bad feeling when he thinks about the future. What if he and Blaine don't make it? What if things aren't as good as they seem? What if they truly aren't compatible? As Blaine tries to plan the wedding of their dreams, Kurt finds himself spiraling over every little thing, from Blaine’s past infidelity to his lack of independence. Blaine’s happy to finally plan their future together, though he senses Kurt’s off. He just can’t put his finger on why. The two struggle to understand each other as something neither of them quite comprehends begins pulling them apart. With the future looking less and less clear, Kurt and Blaine must answer the question: is love enough to carry them through? A season 6 Klaine rewrite with a mental health focus. Part 1 of the series "Works in Progress." Updated weekly.

Undiscovered [12/?]
Tumblr media
Summary: All Blaine Anderson needs is a little help to put himself through school. That’s all. But he’s going to get so much more than he hoped for when he meets Kurt Hummel, the successful, sexy workaholic who in turn needs someone to make the loneliness disappear.
Wordcount: 10383.
Read it on AO3.
It felt like Kurt was tilting right on the edge of something. Blaine being here so often, their lives becoming slowly but surely intertwined
 all the lines of the agreement that had brought them together seemed to be blurred now, forgotten, like they had become unimportant and what truly mattered was doing what felt right.
It wasn’t until Kurt was in the shower, hot water falling over him to ease the tension from his muscles, that he realized Blaine was giving him exactly what he had once barely dared hope for. Someone to come home to.

Hello! Could you recommend college slow-burns that don’t end when they start their relationship? Not necessarily friends to lovers (but I’m not opposed to it)
Hi - these might be what what you are looking for. ~Jen
The Symphony Verse by shandyall
Part 1 Interludes
Blaine has spent most of his life feeling like the only thing people notice about him is that he stutters. He’s working hard to overcome his (mostly self created) roadblocks when he meets Kurt in an online class the summer after his freshman year of college.
You should read all eight parts - well worth it.
~~~~~
The AV!verse by wordplay
Part 1 Epmera (starts when split. season 4, but goes into college years, au)
Futurefic. The history (so far) of a relationship, as told in objects. Archivists describe ephemera as documents that are meant to be thrown away or discarded after a single use. Those who find them interesting are drawn to the way they can illuminate everyday living and the things that are usually implicitly understood by the people who produced and consumed them. Life is complicated, and cluttered, and these tiny bits of information are the things that bind us as we struggle to live together.
~~~~~
The Talkative series By @forabeatofadrum maanorchidee
Part 1 These walls are really talkative
Four walls. One "cube" consisting his small private bathroom and kitchen. A wooden door. This will be Blaine Anderson's life for the following four years. Let's make the best of it.
Again, read all the series
~~~~ Victoria, please keep your secrets by @gleefulpoppet
[AU] Kurt is a senior at NYADA. Blaine is a senior at NYU. They’ve never crossed paths, but they’re about to—in the most unlikely place in all of New York City. (Or, the one where they meet in a lingerie store and find their happily ever after).
Collaborative December klaine challenge 2023 between @esilher and @mynonah
Tumblr media
Tiny Friends in the Neighborhood by @mynonah
"Blaine? What are you doing?"
"Feeding Theodore."
"Excuse me?"
"Theodore, this is my fiancĂ©, Kurt." Blaine says, gesturing theatrically between the window and Kurt, "Kurt, this is—"
"It's a squirrel." Kurt interrupts.
"That was rude. Yes, it's a squirrel. Well, there are two of them, but it's early, I think Francesca's still asleep."
Kurt looks at Blaine as if he's suddenly grown a second head. "Okay, while I try to process this... may I ask what he is doing on our ledge? This is how you teach them to keep coming back, Blaine. And one day, they’ll come into the apartment. What are squirrels doing in this tree anyway?"
"The same thing you do inside the building. They live there."
"No." Kurt shakes his head wildly. "They don't belong here. Squirrels inhabit forests. Or at least... wooded areas. Here it's all concrete and people and bustle."
"They probably moved here from Central Park. But they build their nests in trees and that, in front of our window, is a tree. So it seems to me that they are at home, just like us."
"How do they get food here?"
"They are wild animals, they know how to get food. Besides... we are here for them," Blaine adds with a grin. "I looked up what they eat. Would you like to try?"
"Feeding him? No way! What if he bites?"
"Give him food, not your finger. With your palm open. Come on, Kurt, I'm right behind you. You'll love it and Theodore is hungry!"
Kurt rolls his eyes, but steps closer to the window and carefully holds out his hand to the squirrel.
"Oh," he giggles. "He's cute."
"I know, right? Look, there's a little hole. That's where they nest."
"Uh. That can't be too warm..."
"They live in the wild, Kurt. Don't worry about them."
"But winter is coming, Blaine. Theo and Fran need a more secure home than this. Wait, you were gonna make a bird feeder in the spring, remember? Let's do it now," Kurt says excitedly. "Well, mostly you, but I’ll decorate it. Just make it a little bigger. I'll go see what we need to buy and we can go in 20 minutes." Kurt announces with the same enthusiasm, then turns on his heel and hurries back to the living room.
"Wait
 Are you serious now?"
"Mhm."
"Five minutes ago you didn't care about them at all and now you want to build them a house."
"It's your fault. You named them, Blaine!"
"Whoa... Okay. Understandable. Maybe I should have named the spiders you found in the bathroom yesterday."
"Ugh... have you killed them yet?"
"No, not yet."
"Then do it. Please."
"I don't know... It's a moral issue, Kurt. A whole family!"
"What? You're such a dork."
"And they're high up..."
"That's not a family."
"Okay. Not a family. Just two random spiders and two random half-sized spiders who happened to meet in the corner of the bathroom and have been hanging out together ever since."
Kurt narrows his eyes at Blaine. "Something like that."
"Hm. I still think they’re a family, though. I'll give them names."
"Don't you dare!"
"Everyone deserves a name, Kurt. Don't be cruel."
"Stop it!"
"Hmm... How about Lucas and... Frederick..."
"Blaine, stop it!"
"...and the kids are Charlotte and... ah, Samuel!"
"Shit! I hate you."
"You love me. Very much. So, are you starting to think they're cute?"
"No! They're spiders, for God’s sake. ...Lucas and Frederick?"
"Yep," Blaine says proudly, grinning from ear to ear. "They're gay. Spider family, Kurt. With two dads. And even if the kids manage to escape in time... A lot of little feet need a lot of little shoes, and you want to murder their parents. But of course, as you wish... I just..."
"Fuck!" Kurt exclaims, throwing his phone on the other side of the couch so suddenly, that he almost falls over.
"What’s wrong? Are you okay? Why did you... Whoa! Oh, my God. You actually googled ‘spiders + pets + feeding’?!"
Kurt holds both hands over his eyes frantically, and Blaine can't help but laugh. "You're cute."
"Could you just... Could you just... Just do something!"
"Should I close this and clear the search history?"
"No! Just... just type ‘TINY’... at the beginning of the text. Please. Tiny spiders. Like Charlotte. Thank you."
"I love you so much."
14 years since Never Been Kissed aired. Did you watch it live? Where were you? Did you think it would be the start of something major - one of your favorite ever ships?
Ohh, interesting question!
It's kind of funny to try to remember details of something that did happen nearly fifteen years ago. the tl:dr version of how I started watching Glee was that I wasn't in a great place in Mar of 2010, and a friend of mine had given me the DVD of Glee S1 Part 1 (because that's a thing that happened back then.
And I watched it and I was, meh, it was fine. I mean, DSB gave me literal chills. But I didn't really connect with any of the characters (and omg did I find Terri and Ken annoying). And it's funny, Kurt I had a hard time with -- not at all because of the gay thing, but because his crush on Finn hit a little too close to home and I was still a little sensitive about how I was during high school.
Anyway, the same friend said we should start watching the show together - so I started going over to watch it with her. We watched the rest of Season 1 together. And maybe the first half of Season 2? I definitely watched the first four-ish episodes with her. I think (?) I must have watched NBK with her.
The ONLY thing I remember from my first time watching was the forced kiss between Kurt and Karofsky. It was THAT shocking. Like, WHOA what is happening???
The only real thing I remember about Blaine was that my friend had told me that Kurt was supposed to be getting a boyfriend, and we all wondered if it was going to be Sam (because Duets did give that tiny-ish set-up). And when Blaine showed up, it was one of those - oh, is it this dude? type things.
I did not like Season 2 when it was first airing, Nonny. I'll be honest with you about it. The thing I've since learned about RM and his shows, he often fills them with a lot of unlikable characters who are often ridiculously dramatic. And it just wasn't my thing. But also remember, the show focused hard on Rachel, Finn, Quinn, Puck, Sue, and Will (and Emma). Like -- not my favorite characters. At all.
It's one reason I appreciate the later seasons, because characters I like got more focus, and it just became super weird and super queer and that's just more to my taste.
But anyway -- I kind of only watched sporadically after the first few weeks. I caught Silly Love Songs - because I remember thinking after Kurt and Blaine have their When Harry Met Sally convo, oh yeah, they'll get these two together.
I have zero memory of watching Original Song for the first time. Which I just have, because I knew Klaine was together after that point. But I did miss most of the second half of Season 2.
No, I had zero idea I'd love Klaine as hard as I did (do). I can tell you I remember the exact moment I fell in love with Klaine, though. I decided to catch up on Season 3 because I missed the first half (and hilariously - I was actually enjoying Season 3 more than Season 2 at the time, wild right?) and it was The First Time, and it was the auditorium scene, and it was this moment.
Tumblr media
And really, just Kurt saying -- I'm just a silly romantic, and Blaine saying it wasn't silly, and just kissing him. And, my god nonny, it made my cold, dead heart come alive. It took my breath away.
And then, I mean, I rewatched the full series again, and really got into the Klaine of it, and got into fandom, and as much as fandom was a headache -- and my god it was a headache -- I think that's why I stayed with Glee for so long? It was something to have fun with and explore and write about and talk to people about and there was the insanity of week to week, and it was wild - I mean really wild, but it's what made the show fun. Because, I mean, I love the show - but it's a mess.
And I'm constantly amazed new people come in for it, because sometimes it feels like there's a -- you had to be there -- to get it, lol.
But, I mean, did I think I'd be here, fifteen years later, still talking about how it impacted me? Not even a little bit. :)
