Frankenstein’s Creature and Kuras: Comparison and Predictions
So you know Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, dubbed the ‘Modern Prometheus’? There’s a lot of similarities between Kuras and Frankenstein’s creature, so I made a list of it. This is mostly for me to try and empathize with Kuras through reading the suffering of the creature in the book.
Keep in mind there are also some quote which I think elude to the Kuras actions in his route that the devs claim will be terrible. If you haven’t read the novel, there are spoilers.
It’s pretty long so Under The Cut:
Yellow/Golden Eyes
“I saw the dull yellow eyes of the creature open” (pg 55).
Comment: I know Kuras’ eyes is described as golden in the game but the colors are pretty similar so I added it
Needing to be Understood
“I required kindness and sympathy; but I did not believe myself utterly unworthy of it” (pg 137).
Expressing Love/Admiration for Humans
Comment: This section specifically added because though Kuras may lack Empathy, he is still compassionate.
“The gentle manners and beauty of the cottagers greatly endeared them to me; when they were unhappy, I felt depressed; when they rejoiced, I sympathised in their joys” (Chapter 12).
Comment: The monsters fascination with the cottagers is Kuras’ in the beginning
Lacking Empathy for Humanity due to Their Own Monstrosity
Comment: Much like the creature, Kuras is an outcast and can only observe humanity, never be wholly amongst them and reveal his true identity.
“What chiefly struck me was the gentle manners of these people; and I longed to join them but dared not… I might remain quietly in my hovel, watching, and endeavoring to discover the motives which influenced their actions” (pg 101).
Comment: both characters are curious and like to understand people in some way, “I’ve never come across so fascinating a patient.” Also this statement could be like how Kuras from the Shroud watching humans from above and wanting to interact with them.
“But where were my friends and relations? No father had watched my infant days, no mother had blessed me with smiles and caresses... From my earliest remembrance I had been as I then was in height and proportion. I had never yet seen a being resembling me or who claimed any intercourse with me” (pg 125).
“ I found myself similar yet at the same time strangely unlike to the beings concerning whom I read and to whose conversation I was a listener. I sympathised with and partly understood them, but I was unformed in mind; I was dependent on none and related to none. 'The path of my departure was free,' and there was none to lament my annihilation... What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come? What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them” (pg. 133).
Comment: the quote above can be related to Kuras over thousands of years reflecting on his existence. “There was none to lament my annihilation” might be his thoughts related to his guilt of past actions.
Expressing Dislike for Sin
“For a long time I could not conceive how one man could go forth to murder his fellow…but when I heard details of Vice and bloodshed, my wonder ceased and I turned away with disgust and loathing” (pg. 124).
“I read of men concerned in public affairs, governing or massacring their species. I felt the greatest ardor for virtue rise within me, and abhorrence for vice, as far as I understood the signification of those terms, relative as they were, as I applied them, to pleasure and pain alone. Induced by these feelings, I was of course led to admire peaceable lawgivers” (pg 134)
Edit: Is this a hint to how we can get the good end?? We can’t be hateful and violent but choose to be peaceful and kind??
Being Rejected by Humans they Helped
Comment: Now this section is more in the theory territory where I think that in some way the Senobium or the people in Eridia reject/attack Kuras that made/ will make him angry and cause ruin.
For context who haven’t read Frankenstein, the monster hides in a hovel for many months and observes a family of cottagers. He really grows fond of them and imagines them as his friends, but because of his monsterous appearance, is too scared to approach them, until he finally does after months of preparation learning their language from books and books, which unfortunately ends in tragedy.
"At that instant the cottage door was opened…Who can describe their horror and consternation on beholding me? Agatha fainted, and Safie, unable to attend to her friend, rushed out of the cottage. Felix darted forward, and with supernatural force tore me from his father, to whose knees I clung, in a transport of fury, he dashed me to the ground and struck me violently with a stick. I could have torn him limb from limb, as the lion rends the antelope. But my heart sank within me as with bitter sickness, and I refrained. I saw him on the point of repeating his blow, when, overcome by pain and anguish, I quitted the cottage.”
“My feelings were those of rage and revenge. I could with pleasure have destroyed the cottage and its inhabitants and have glutted myself with their shrieks and misery” (pg. 141)
Comment: the cottage in this case could be replaced as the community in Eridia he’s helped or people that he is fond of. Like Frankenstein’s creature, Kuras needs to hold himself back from causing damage since he is powerful.
“All, save I, were at rest or in enjoyment; I, like the arch-fiend, bore a bell within me, and finding myself unsympathized with, wished to tear up the trees, spread havoc and destruction around me, and then to have sat down enjoyed the ruin…There was none among the myriads of men that existed who would pity or assist me; and should I feel kindness towards my enemies? No; from the everlasting war against the species, and more than all, against him who had formed me and sent me forth to this insupportable misery” (pg. 141).
“A kind of insanity in my spirits that burst all bounds of reason and reflection. I lighted the dry branch of a tree and danced with fury around the devoted cottage…the wind fanned the fire and the cottage was quickly enveloped by flames, which clung to it and licked it with their forked and destroying tongues” (pg. 144).
Comment: Kuras knows right and wrong, he has morals. But, when someone is angry, reason and reflection are thrown out of the window. They will do unspeakable things, may hurt others that are uncharacteristic of themselves, until they are calm again and feel the weight of their actions. I feel like that is Kuras in a nutshell. When he’s mad, he’s mad
“This was then the reward of my benevolence? I had saved a human being from destruction, and as a recompense I now weighed under the miserable pain of a wound…the feeling of kindness and gentleness which I had entertaining…gave place to hellish rage and gnashing of teeth. Inflamed by pain, I vowed eternal hatred and vengeance to all mankind” (pg 147).
Comment: this is probably the bad end result, where Kuras just sort of combusts and goes against his own moral code as a doctor of helping others to now harming others.
This is the end of my analysis for now. If you’ve read this far, congratulations! I also highly recommend reading Frankenstein, it’s a good read!

H x H reaction episode 12 - H x H week-end
Alright, I’m also doing the end of the previous episode since I though it was over when it wasn’t.
So Hisoka, Frankenstein and One Punch Man are the first ones to pass the third phase. One Punch Man honestly seems like an alright guy, I wonder why he wants to become a hunter so badly.
Seems like an alright room. A little small, but as long as they can eat, drink and sleep, that should be fine.
That’s the thing, uh, Kura ? But what when he won’t be. The second strongest is probably Kurapika, but he is just an avenger, and it was proven that cold-blooded killing isn’t his thing.
I know, right ? To be young again ~
In a way I can see that he is doing that to make himself feel better, but also... it’s true. We saw that with all these people who arrived after only a few hours.
Why do I have to agree with Tonpa ? Anime, what are you doing ?
I make the same noises than when I see kitties. Let them be kids, come on.
Aw, Kura is happy too ! Everyone is happy and goofing around ! This is a happy moment ! I feel like I need to enjoy thoses. Like, I’m sorry I can’t screenshot ANYTIME they do something cute, but I really want to.
He totally is. I’m so done with this guy. I hope he isn’t in the next arcs.
Leorio : *always complain that the others won’t let him sleep*
The others : *sleep*
Leorio : *don’t sleep, even though he is obviously tired*

70th Anniversary celebrations
2020 marks English National Ballet’s 70th Anniversary with celebrations taking place throughout the 2019-2020 Season that give opportunities for the Company to say, ‘Thank You’ to its audiences, fans, friends and partners.
The 70th Anniversary will be celebrated with three special Gala performances at the London Coliseum featuring extracts from a diverse range of repertoire spanning English National Ballet’s history.
ENB’s Artistic Director, Tamara Rojo, said,
Our 70th Anniversary Gala performances are a rare opportunity to showcase in one place a huge variety of brilliant work from our extraordinarily rich history. This will be a Gala that celebrates the sheer love of dance, both on and off the stage, that has been part of our vision from the beginning.
Throughout the three performances, we will be bringing together as many people as possible from the English National Ballet family, on stage and in the audience, to celebrate and give thanks for the generosity of all who make this the very special Company it is. Alongside the Gala, we want to make sure we thank our audiences and partners throughout the season and will do so in a variety of creative ways.
ENB will give away 70 tickets during each run in every city it tours to thank its touring communities. Working with its partner venues, these tickets will be distributed to individuals who are making a positive impact in their community.
To thank its audiences and fans, the company will also give a ‘Golden Ticket’ for an “English National Ballet experience” to one audience member per performance throughout the season. Opportunities will include behind-the-scenes tours, complimentary tickets, and meet and greets.
The biggest event that coincides with its 70th Anniversary is the move to its new home at London City Island, Canning Town. The building, designed for ENB and its school features a theatre size production studio fitted with a fly tower to allow for the 2019-2020 Season to be shaped with “a renewed commitment to, and freedom for, creativity and ambition”.

Akram Khan’s new work – Creature
Akram Khan returns to create a second full-length production for English National Ballet following the success of Giselle. In an ‘anything you can do, I can do better’ approach, he takes inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein — a ballet version by Liam Scarlett is currently onstage at The Royal Ballet. Khan’s new ballet, called Creature, is influenced by essential questions on ambition, human endeavour and morality. Creature is co-produced by Sadler’s Wells, London, where it will premiere in April 2020.
Khan said,
Since I was a child, I have been obsessed and fascinated with the story of Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley. The outcast, the monster, or the stranger has always been a common theme in my works. But in this new creation, I am looking further into the areas related to the sense of abandonment, rage and loss. Having made Giselle on English National Ballet in 2016, I am extremely excited to create a new full-length work with them.
Rojo said that Khan is an extraordinary artist, with an exceptional vision and inquisitive, inspiring mind:
His masterful choreography is like no other and he has the skill to use his unique language to craft a narrative that asks some of the most challenging questions faced by the human race right now. I am looking forward to working with Akram and his team again and excited to see where this exploration takes him and the company in what will be our third project together.

Return of Giselle, Cinderella, Le Corsaire, and Nutcracker
The 2019-2020 Season will also see the return of Khan’s first full-length collaboration with English National Ballet, Giselle, with performances at Sadler’s Wells in September. It received its world premiere in 2016 and has since been seen live by over 80,000 people through tours to nine cities, both in the UK and internationally together with a cinema relay and a DVD and Blu-ray release.
Another first is that there will be an audio described performance of Giselle at Sadler’s Wells this autumn, making the ballet accessible to visually impaired people, as well as an on-stage ‘touch tour’ ahead of the performance, in which participants are given the opportunity to familiarise themselves with costumes and props through touch.
Autumn 2019 sees ENB tour Cinderella, Le Corsaire, and Nutcracker.
Following Christopher Wheeldon’s restaging of Cinderella for in-the-round performances at the Royal Albert Hall in June 2019, English National Ballet will bring the proscenium arch version of this sparkling ballet to audiences outside of London in Manchester and Southampton. This inventive production combines magnificent sets and costumes, beautiful choreography, and Prokofiev’s sublime score performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic.
Having toured successfully to Japan, Paris, and Spain, Autumn 2019 sees Le Corsaire return to Milton Keynes six years after its 2013 premiere in that same city, before performances at the London Coliseum in January 2020.
Tamara Rojo © Karolina Kuras
Rojo commented that,
Le Corsaire is a spectacular ballet that gives us another opportunity to showcase the extraordinary talent that is present throughout the entire Company right now. There is a physical power and brilliant dramatic presence in this generation of dancers, and I am looking forward to seeing them take on these roles which I think they will relish and have such fun with, and I think audiences will too.
Continuing its Christmas tradition of presenting a Nutcracker production each year since 1950, English National Ballet’s Nutcracker will tour to Liverpool ahead of performances at the London Coliseum. 70% of 2018’s audience members were coming to the London Coliseum for the first time.
Brooklyn Mack will perform with English National Ballet as a Guest Artist during the Autumn-Winter 2019-2020 Season. Mack last performed with English National Ballet in 2016, in Le Corsaire.
Other plans include more international touring, following the upcoming tours to Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg in June 2019 and at the Chekov International Festival on the Bolshoi Theatre stage in July 2019. In April 2020 the company will take Khan’s Giselle to the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, and then the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris in July 2020 as part of the festival Les Étés de la Danse.
ENB appoints a Medical Director
To augment its commitment to its dancers’ health the company has appointed Andy Reynolds as Medical Director, a new role. He will work to maximise the benefits of the new premises’ fitness and rehabilitation facilities which include a gym, Pilates studio, hydrotherapy pool and treatment rooms, implementing processes and strategies to allow English National Ballet’s dancers to prepare, perform, and recover to the best of their abilities.
The appointment of a Medical Director is integral to our ambition to establish English National Ballet as a renowned centre for medical, fitness, and injury rehabilitation provision in the dance world — said Rojo — I look forward to welcoming Andy to the team as we strive to further invest in the health and well-being of our dancers in a way that supports their artistic development so they can reach their full potential as artists.
English National Ballet moves to London City Island in Spring 2019 with English National Ballet School joining ahead of their new academic year starting in September 2019.

Emilia Clarke has completed filming her scenes for the younger Han Solo film, as evidenced by director Ron Howard’s newest behind-the-scenes photograph. Taking up for the fired Phil Lord and Chris Miller again in June, the Oscar-winning filmmaker has spent the previous couple of months in manufacturing on Han Solo, with proof suggesting he's primarily reshooting the spinoff from scratch. Whereas this can guarantee the top result's the product of 1 individual’s singular, constant imaginative and prescient (as a substitute of being a Frankenstein monster of clashing types), it has extended the taking pictures interval. Initially, underneath Lord and Miller, principal images was set to conclude in July, however Howard’s cameras are nonetheless rolling as we strategy the top of September.
In the end, issues appear to be wrapping up. Lately, each Donald Glover and Paul Bettany accomplished their respective roles, signaling the top of filming is close to. Now, one other member of the solid is free to go away the galaxy far, far-off: Emilia Clarke, the film’s feminine lead.
As soon as once more taking to Twitter, Howard posted an image of himself with Clarke to commemorate the actresses’ time on-set. Mentioning the Sport of Thrones star was enjoyable to work with, the director teased her character, saying Clarke’s half is “terrifically robust and thrilling.” You possibly can see the picture within the area beneath:
Clarke is claimed to be portraying a person named Kira (or Kura, relying on who you ask), who could also be concerned with a wierd museum that options objects like a taxidermied creature. It’s tough to say how she's going to issue into the narrative, since Lucasfilm has characteristically stored a decent lid on plot particulars. If Clarke has been filming Han Solo for this lengthy, odds are she is a principal participant who has a good quantity of display screen time. One chance is that Kira is a love curiosity for Han, although many viewers are hoping she’s one thing greater than that (particularly after the optimistic receptions for Rey and Jyn Erso). Clarke is definitely enthused by what’s in retailer, promising her character is “superior.” Ideally, Kira would be the newest in a protracted line of compelling feminine Star Wars characters, including to the custom. Lucasfilm is trying to proceed Forces of Future subsequent yr, and Kira may turn into part of that if she turns into a fan-favorite.
With Howard getting nearer and nearer to concluding manufacturing, the long-awaited first look of Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo is probably going proper across the nook. The actor was glimpsed in some leaked set photosfrom over the spring, however Lucasfilm has but to disclose an official photograph of the teenager in-costume. An argument will be made that Howard and firm are holding their star again for one thing massive – presumably when the undertaking wraps. Hopefully then, extra details about the movie is lastly revealed, such because the title.
