River City Girls 2 DLC characters Billy and Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon announced
From Gematsu
Tumblr media
WayForward has announced River City Girls 2 downloadable content characters Billy and Jimmy Lee from the Double Dragon series. They will launch this summer.
Get the latest details below.
Billy and Jimmy Lee
Originally debuting in the 1987 smash-hit Double Dragon arcade game, Billy and Jimmy Lee have been two of the most requested playable characters in River City Girls 2 since the game’s debut. The twin brothers jump into action as distinctive fighters, each with a bone-shattering arsenal of punches, kicks, throws, and special attacks, including trademark moves from their past adventures, such as the spinning cyclone kick, rising knee, and much more. Both characters are also thoroughly integrated into River City Girls 2‘s story mode, with full VO from returning voice actors Dan Avidan (Billy) and Arin Hanson (Jimmy) of the Game Grumps. The downloadable content also adds an epic new vocal song performed by Hanson and Avidan (with music by series composer Megan McDuffee), plus a new dojo master to stand in for Billy and Jimmy while they’re out bustin’ heads.
Free Update
In addition to the premium content, a free update will be made available to all River City Girls 2 owners, delivering an all-new Double Dragon-themed motion comic, two new shops, new accessories, and more. Further details on this content will be revealed closer to the downloadable content’s release. These new inclusions are on top of River City Girls 2‘s already robust combat and deep feature set, which includes six existing playable characters, a vast world with eight distinct regions, four-player cooperative play, online gameplay, numerous weapons, personality-packed bosses, RPG-like character growth, recruits that assist you in battle, dozens of items and accessories to buy and equip, spectacular pixel-art graphics, an anime-style intro, and a critically acclaimed soundtrack.
River City Girls 2 is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam.

As someone who's kind of sick of media starting out lighthearted and goofy but then deciding to go darker and edgier over time, I absolutely love Kyoko and Misako's confrontation with Sabu. Spoilers.
Like. This is the guy. Top dragon of River City's premiere yakuza family. Recurring archnemesis of the franchise. Ultra-serious character without an ounce of wit or comedy to him. His whole presentation in the game is the unfunny super-serious Actual Bad Guy.
He's not pathetic like Ken. He's not goofy like the emblem bosses. He is a big man in a big suit who says serious things in a stern voice, and he's here to whip the game's tone into something much more dignified.
And. These girls. Dunk on him. XD It's amazing. Can't even be arsed to listen to him talk. They spend the entire confrontation trying to figure out why he's glowing, which he is actively trying to explain. Because screw him. He's played up like the ultra-serious guy but does anyone really care what this dipshit has to say? He's a clown!
This whole thing was so avoidable. The girls beat up his daughter over a misunderstanding, and now Sabu's caught up in the Sunk Cost Fallacy of wounded pride. He could just. Like. Run his crime empire and not fuck with Misako and Kyoko. That was an option this whole time.
All they wanted to do was buy a video game. That's it. That is their entire investment in this campaign. Those are the stakes. Whether or not they will get their video game is the whole conflict here.
It's just Sabu's wounded family pride compelling him to go to war with them. These literal children inadvertently embarrassed his family, and so to try and avenge that embarrassment, he breaks his entire crime empire upon them. When he could just. Not. Do that.
It would have cost him nothing to shrug his shoulders and go, "Well, that happened. Anyways." But for the sake of his bruised ego, he throws good resources after bad trying to prove that he's a bigger man than a high school girl. And fails.

The Newness is ON! Today's ScrollBoss site update: Street Fighter Alpha 3 portraits for Terry Bogard and Ryu Hayabusa! Bunnysuit ladies and Zombies! River City Ransom scenes added to the image generators!
The new Extra Palette feature is also in the image generators for a few characters. It lets you customize specific sections of color a bit more for the sprites. Still working on some bugs here and there before I roll it out to more characters.

Recently getting River City Girls 2 and it reminded me how much I liked the original series and despite barely drawing Yamada here, wanted to produce more nicer work.

Okay, to my fighting game fan followers, I'd like to present: River City Girls!
Tumblr media
The series is a spin-off of the Kunio-kun series, a beat 'em up game series that has apparently existed since the 80s and I had no idea about until recently.
The original game was released back in 2019 and stars Kyoko (the ginger) and Misako (the brunette) who are trying to rescue their boyfriends, series' protagonist Kunio and Riki (Misako is Kunio's girlfriend and Kyoko is Riki's)
youtube
The game is endlessly charming with amazing pixel-art-style graphics, a killer soundtrack and very cool boss fights! It also has a great sense of humour, you're gonna love it! You can even check out a bit of gameplay from Matt McMuscles, a favourite YouTuber of mine, through whom I got introduced to these game by a video he uploaded on the second game a few days ago on his other channel and made me look into these games. Apparently he's voicing a character in the second game and JackSepticEye is even voicing one in the first one!
youtube
Be warned though, the first game, the bosses in particular, can be challenging if you're playing alone. The game seems to have been made with 2-player co-op in mind so it's recommended that you get one of your friends to play with you, it's generally more fun this way. The first game however features no online multiplayer meaning that you actually have to depend on your real-life friends and mine are all STUPID and don't wanna play this with me so I'm stuck trying to beat the bosses on my own 😭😂
youtube
If you're feeling retro, the 1994 SNES game where Kyoko and Misako first appeared in has also been localized in the West for the first time ever this year as River City Girls Zero and serves as a prequel to the original and a second game, River City Girls Two, has just been released as well. All three games are available on Steam, PS4 / 5, Xbox One / X / S and Switch so I trust you'll have no problem getting them on the platform of your choice. The 2019 game which I got today seems to be on sale until the 22nd of December so you'll be saving up money and I think the sequel is also around 40€ and it just came out so even on full price the games aren't expensive.
youtube
According to Matt the second one, which he played solo, without his friend Liam who's playing with him on the video I shared above, is less challenging and it also features online multiplayer this time.
If you're a fighting game fan I think you're gonna have tons of fun with River City Girls because the games feature TONS of references and Easter Eggs to many popular fighting games and beat 'em ups. I've even seen pics of Sol Badguy and Jam Kuradoberi from Guilty Gear making cameos in the sequel, ArcSys is the publisher of both series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, let me know if you actually end up playing any of the three games as I just started the first one myself and I'm really pumped!
